About this blog

Welcome to the humble abode of I. Here I post thoughts of food I eat, mainly snack food products, though if I get motivated enough, there could be something else.

I am from Canada, so I figure this blog title would be a good self-descriptor. AKA, explain why I do or don't cover certain products, and why they have French on their labels.

Caffarel Nocciolotto

It was a little after last Christmas that a found out what a good job Italy does with chocolate.   And this was exactly what it basically looked like! I looked up what Gianduia was, and sure enough, chocolate hazelnut spread. This company's brand, I might add. As if it wasn't already chocolatey and hazelnutty enough already, that just had to make it so nice and creamy on the inside, when hazelnut chocolate bars usually are not. I couldn't get a picture like on the wrapper where it shows half a hazelnut, it's a small bar and whole hazelnuts. Anytime I took a bit I just ate a whole hazelnut, or 0% of one. That's marketing for ya, but won't stop how extremely pleasing to my taste buds this was. 9.5/10 Thankfully my local grocery store is doing some sort of taste of Italy right now, I did not see this many Italian looking treats before, it was only obvious enough with the Baci. Hope some of it stays, but before too long, dang, I'm gonna have to pick up a couple more of these.

Kinder Country

If you click into the Imgur link, you'd see the words are from Germany. Carrying on. So here we have the first of some things I'll be taking a look at from some random grocery store I was near a couple days ago. The place calls itself "a european food experience" and I found plenty to support that claim. Puffed wheat type cereal instead of crispy rice is an interesting take, and depending on how many times I'm able to go back, I would definitely not mind getting another some time. It complements Kinder's delicious chocolate that is very appropriate for kids surprisingly well, but then I'm left to wonder that it must have something to do with still having that milky filling. Like omg, that is quite a good fit. Even still, not the type of grains I prefer in my chocolate, as weird as that sounds. All in all, was the least interesting of the chocolates I ended up getting just yet for me, kind of supports that thought, but is really good in it's own way, just gets a 6.5/10.

Special Edition Nature Valley Lunch Box S'mores

I watched someone's opinion of this which is what alerted me to it in the first place, but he didn't seem to notice or care about the issue I have, or maybe just didn't have the issue, but after 2 bars, basically half the package, I can safely say what I am going to say. So it has to do with what is different about it that doesn't make it s'mores, but I do still like it. It uses white chocolate to imitate the marshmallow which I'm sorry, but no. I don't dislike that about it, but it doesn't make it s'mores. What I'm really just disappointed in is that in each of those 2 bars I've consumed thus far, there was only 1 piece of what even really makes it stand out. 7/10 for being an overall solid product, but I'll dock a point for false advertising. 6/10

Rolo Hide Me Eggs

Honestly speaking, this is the least unique of them all, because it's literally nothing different other than shape, and I don't find the texture all that different from a normal Rolo. But all the same, it is delicious melty caramel goodness, inside an awesome milk chocolate shell 7/10   I do want to try to pick up some other things tomorrow (or the day after, if most things are closed Easter Monday, can never entirely remember these things too far in advance especially, getting this together over a week ahead) if I can, if there are good sales for the Easter clearance.

Doritos Dinamita Nacho Picoso

Wow oh wow, these just might have that cheesy cheesy goodness from the various cheese sauces I'm familiar with down, even more than the regular old Nacho Cheese Doritos! I guess the "rolled for an explosion of flavour" on the package was not a lie, and the actual kick from the nacho cheese sauce from like Old El Paso or something. Well, of course the regular one wouldn't be spicy, there seems to be a lot of other Doritos for that. Then for this, I definitely did expect spicy from the name and packaging. Seeing as I don't have Doritos all the time, I feel like I can easily handle this level of spiciness to go with this type of flavour representation. I'm gonna give this one an 8/10

Smarties Hide Me Eggs

Smoother and melty-er than the Kit Kat partner, this tastes actually factually like that M&M's bar I even recently had, like that on point. It could have been because it was left out a little longer, but it is more expected of Smarties in general, so that's good. 7.5/10

Kit Kat Hide Me Eggs

Note: Kit Kat has been the only wafer I ever really liked. I guess should I see any others actually covered in chocolate, it might be something I'd be interested in trying. The design of the egg and the bits of what make these what they are hidden inside (get it? or maybe that's not what the name implies...) are what I'm interested in (Kit Kat/Smarties/Rolo/Coffee Crisp, but I won't be covering Coffee Crisp, I don't like it in general). Kinda invested in the different texture it could provide, so I bit the bullet and got it before the after Easter sale, since I'm really unsure of if they could still be around by then. Bits of wafers. Don't really know if it's a good idea. It tastes great, just like what I'm used to, but felt it kinda caught in my throat a bit on the first egg. Do I need to chew more and see? The egg design is nice, if you can see, it makes the texture kinda smooth, kinda bumpy. Mostly smooth, though. And yeah, you really need to chew your food, this is more than fine if you do. 7/10

Reese (Stuffed With Pieces)

I didn't get a pic of mine, but the image of the actual thing is identical to the one on this package.   My first experience with Reese stuffed with pieces that I can remember would me a melty Big Cup 2 or 3 or 4 summers ago while I was still out and about. Thankfully I caught the fact that they should be eaten before we get home when I did, it was still good. What can I say? Regular Reese is classic, Pieces are great, what a good combo, and they're both the same brand, so it was easily done once they finally realized they could capitalize on it. It was still a Big Cup though, and I already prefer anything smaller than the regular cup or of a different shape, but it was all there was at the time with the easy combination. 7/10   That has me thinking this idea would really be better by me getting regular versions of each of these things and putting them together in my mouth. Probably mostly the same taste, definitely cheaper overall though I would have more at a time, and I still plan to go easier on these sweets. Would still have a different texture to just not have the pieces actually IN the whatever other product...   Anyway, onto the Egg that I found recently. It honestly looked slightly more ridged than the regular egg I remembered, definitely more than that pic, but it didn't feel like that at all when tasting it. In general what I hoped I would get out of this kind of thing, but not what I really needed out of it... 7.5/10     Outrageous. Accurate. This would be a bumpy bar with Pieces and caramel in it. It reminds me of the Oh Henry with Reese peanut butter in that the complexity is really what I ended up enjoying most for a Reese product. Yes, an Oh Henry with nothing else added other than peanut butter is my favorite Reese product. For that I am glad that both are owned by Hershey's in Canada. 9/10   As far as the poll I came up with this time, I still prefer just Pieces than anything involving the regular cup. It's those ridges, man. Certainly get it though, Thar.

Combos Buffalo Blue Cheese Baked Pretzel Stuffed Snacks

This is probably the uniqueness I've actually been hoping for in a pretzel product. A good cheesy kick is just what I seem to have been waiting for so it isn't just a little too bland. This is pretty awesome. Too bad the packaging being only in English anywhere I've seen means it is obviously imported, and so too expensive to have all that often. I'd just want to try the PEPPERONI PIZZA CRACKER one and the 7 LAYER DIP TORTILLA one if possible and then after those months from now be able to decide which are my priorities for really treating myself. 8/10

Reese Clusters

Creamy peanut butter, caramel, peanuts and pecans wrapped in milk chocolate   Yum, turtles with delicious Reese peanut butter! Not really, but pretty much. Is this all I have to say? It's just that simply different and extra for Reese. Coming soon though: Reese's Outrageous (clearly not a Canadian product, or at least that I can find, found it in a store that has a lot of US/products without French) and talk about Reese products stuffed with pieces.

Pringles Groovz Tangy Southern BBQ

Oh boy did I ever not expect a spicy BBQ chip from Pringles.   Or to be honest, it is the ridges I never expected from Pringles, and to be done to such great quality. I really can't eat the whole can in one sitting, but after about half I find it very astonishing to admit, not one of the chips I picked out of the can broke in any way until I put them in my mouth (this vastly increases my want to try the other flavours, Classic Salted & Applewood Smoked Cheddar). Then when I put them in my mouth... an explosion of flavour is seriously an understatement. This goes beyond the one or two things that are usually used in a flavour. And when I compare it to the fairly recent limited time taco flavour Lay's put out, those ingredients being used together in a chip flavour practically come together in harmony. I can taste the hot pepper, I can taste the onion. Of particular note, I can taste the tomato, making this also a somewhat sweet tasting BBQ chip, which I must say I don't usually get out of them. 9/10   I see they're called Wavy in the US... a little too on point for coming out in this stage of Pringles' life, imo but nevertheless, awesome product. And about the poll... if I had known that's what it was called in the US... this wouldn't have been as pleasant a surprise, but nevertheless, awesome product.

Keebler® Town House® Pretzel Flipsides® Original crackers

Keeping this simple, it takes two fairly basic but good choices for a salty snack and makes something very solid about it. Makes a plain old pretzel slightly more unique, makes a plain old cracker slightly more unique (well, it clearly isn't the most basic soda crackers, closer to Ritz but not quite as good). This box definitely seemed more well done than my first one, but it hardly even changed the taste for this. Very nice, very gooood. 7/10

Skittles

I don't think I've ever cared much for Skittles as a kid, and understandably, couldn't quite but my finger on it... the texture is just plain weird. Not as hard or crunchy as some candies, definitely not as soft as others, but the I guess it gets the chewiness down to an extent. Too bad it's from that really weird tasting inside! I guess I still can't express my opinions that well. Well, I can say the outside shell isn't so hard and is pretty thin, it's more like M&M's than some things, but it of course is fruit flavoured which isn't wrong in and of itself, just... I'm still going back to that inside, what even?   Another thing I was never so fond of were the lemon flavoured things, but tasting it now, I don't really find the flavour all that pronounced. I could hardly taste it on most of these yellow ones. At least that makes it much better than the starbursts I especially remember were like. The funny thing is, the yellows were the least plentiful in this pack, and I have heard of other people hating them, but I don't truly know if that's the majority opinion. Even if it was, would Skittles as a whole know enough to make sure? I think it was just a lucky accident.   So all together, I guess I was just the only one in the house that would eat it, but I already had plenty of things I knew I liked way better. 4/10

Lindor Milk and White Truffles

(click images to view in huge/WARNING: They are huge)   This originally looked far more like a present, but I didn't bother writing to and from, since it was to me from me. fyi, this is also the last thing of sweets that I bought before attempting a new year's resolution of eating far less sweets (cereal not included). Skittles were also given to me, but that is all I have left. Will more than likely try more limited edition chips now then, but I also wanna eat less junk in general, but not making such a huge impossible resolution right away.  So the name of the blog may seem like a joke now, but I assure you, a better description is in the works.   This has to be the best Lindor truffle I have ever tasted. I'm not much for white chocolate on it's own, though I can get a hankering for it. It would just look like a normal milk chocolate truffle, but I'm not taking a bite out of it to see the white. By far the best way to eat these things is to leave them out of the fridge (like all chocolate, unless it would for sure be too melty), pop it in your mouth, and just wait as it melts into heavenly goodness. It just felt the most like I just died of happiness out of the products I have tried as of late, just fits that description all the more. The packaging is top-cuteing-notch too, didn't expect to not only see something like that, but then still see it on clearance (or maybe I should have, haha). There is a regular pack, but I have to provide my opinion on what I happened to spot and eat this year. 9/10
