Custom Evolution, is a whitelisted only custom cards format. This means all cards in the format are made for the format and are all custom!

The overall flair of the format is old school slower Gaots/Edison-ish Main Deck focused gameplay, with a focus on "finding your own synergies" and a lot of self expression as a deck builder and duelist. Fusion is the only Extra Deck mechanic for now.

Custom Evolution Format cards can be accessed in the Duelingbook Deck Constructor: SEARCH → more options → Cardpool: All Custom Cards → Type "Custom Evolution" in "Desc" → Press the Search button
- Both players can control a field spell at the same time.
- No re-arranging the order of cards in the GY for no reason.
- There are no Extra Monster Zones or Pendulum Zones.
- Everything else is latest Yu-Gi-Oh rules.

It is also possible and encouraged for community members to create and submit cards to be added to the format, then they are added to the format at my discretion as a creator if they fit, with any necessary changes.

The goal is to have a fun alternative universe Yu-Gi-Oh format with a fresh meta game, new strategies and Decks to build, new cards to look at, connect with others and compete - yes, there will be tournaments (even cash prized ones). First tourney is planned for first half of March 2026.
Hindsight Format is a retro-styled custom format built off of Goat Format, but with a 100% community-voted banlist and expanded cardpool devoid of most of the cards in sets which defined later formats. We hold a tournament every month over duelingbook over at the discord, with votes for changes to the format held in June and December of every year. You can read the full mission statement and rules here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OJzD6ouXRiLIHG7lvv8ao15v2v3f5wUYNOhmJ_OATBw/edit?usp=sharing

They don’t take into account all of the new cards that will be released during their time and what their impact on the metagame will be, and in fact are incentivised not to do so, to make players want to buy the newly broken cards that won’t be hit until the next list.

While the card sets allowed are increased, key bans/limits are also made to allow for roughly the same gameplay experience. If you already have a Goat Format deck, you can probably use it in this format with 2-6 card changes!

Beyond the Cards is a new, immersive way to play the game of Yu-Gi-Oh!, where the players collaborate to create a story through their actions and performances at tournaments. Become a member of a Faction in an ongoing struggle against the other Factions, and make history! Participate in roleplay between tournaments to help decide the conflicts at hand, or simply enjoy playing in a smaller card pool of hand-selected lower-powered cards. Players will help decide which new Factions and cards are added to the card pool as time goes on. Currently playtesting on the Casual Goat Format Discord.

	The Rules

Beyond the Cards follows all of the rules, rulings, and card text for current Yu-Gi-Oh!, except where contradicted by the following:
1. We will be using the Master Rule 2 board, as there are no legal Links or Pendulums. (This is referred to as Classic Mode on duelingbook)
2. There is a custom card pool of Faction Cards and Mercenary Cards, which are the only cards you can play. (See Factions)
3. There is a custom Banned/Limited list, along with a special category of Limited cards referred to as “Heirloom cards”. A player may only use 1 Heirloom card period in their deck, and are restricted to either “Upstart Goblin”, “Angel Trumpeter” or their faction’s Heirloom cards to choose from. (See Heirloom Cards and Limited List)
4. “When… you can” effects and changing locations no longer causes an effect to miss timing. Treat "When... you can" as “If… you can” effects instead.
5. Monsters can now be Normal Summoned in face-up defense position, but you may still Set them.
6. You may use any Ritual Spell Card that has no additional effects than Ritual Summoning its corresponding Ritual Monster to summon ANY Ritual Monster, tributing a total Level of monsters as appropriate for the Ritual Monster you’re summoning, essentially making them cosmetic. Any Ritual Spell Card with an additional effect, such as “Gishiki Mirror” can still only be used for the monster(s) listed on the card. (Example: Black Illusion Ritual can be used to Summon Dokurorider by tributing monsters from hand or field with a total level of 6 or higher)

	Mercenary Cards

Mercenary cards are cards which players of any faction can use in their deck. In addition to a select set of cards, this pool also includes ALL Normal Monsters (except Pendulum) and all Non-Effect Ritual/Synchro/XYZ Monsters, as well as all Ritual Spell Cards without additional effects.
See the full list of cards HERE

	Limited List

Limited cards are Mercenary Cards (and possibly Faction Cards in the future) which are deemed too powerful or which pose creative restrictions on deck building when used at greater numbers. You may only play 1 copy of each of these cards in your deck, but you may include as many different Limited cards in your deck as you like.

	Heavy Storm
Lightning Vortex
Living Fossil
Mirror Force
Mystical Space Typhoon
Ready Fusion
Torrential Tribute

	Heirloom Cards

Heirloom cards are potentially powerful or deck-warping cards, which you are only allowed 1 of in your deck. Not 1 copy of each, but 1 in total. Each player can choose to include 1 copy of either:
- “Upstart Goblin”
- “Angel Trumpeter”
- One of the cards listed in the side deck of their Faction’s card pool.

Basically, this is a tournament where each participant is allowed to submit 1~3 custom cards, and run up to 3 copies of each like with normal cards, to play with. That means up to 9 custom cards in a deck. That way you can make some of your dreams come true, like taking your favorite archetype to top tier levels, test splashable tech cards, and so on. However, there a couple of details I want to discuss with players who are interested:

	- A power level should be determined for the custom cards. If broken cards were allowed, they could derail the tournament by reaching ridiculous levels of power. On the other hand, only allowing cards that are too fair may make things stale and potentially pointless. For this, I would like to determine the acceptable power levels for the custom cards, as well as have the support of at least 2 peers who assist with reviewing, fixing if necessary, and approving submitted cards for the tournament.

	- The cards you submit will be available to all participants. This is intended to work as a balance filter since, if you make anything too appealing, you have to be wary of the possibility for your opponents to play them in their decks and thus against you. In a way, all custom cards get added to the cardpool for this tournament.

	- Finally, would like to discuss and establish a banlist for the tournament. It would be silly if efforts are made with making custom cards only for the same decks that are currently topping in TCG or OCG to end up winning anyway. On top of the current hits that TCG and OCG did separately, I'm thinking on hitting cards they both are missing, namely Gumblar and even Rhongo. But ideally I want to reach an agreement with the participants.

Proposed banlist so far:
January OCG banlist
+
Forbidden:
Number 86: Heroic Champion - Rhongomyniad
Topologic Gumblar Dragon

	Limited:
Armageddon Knight

Semi-Limited
Destiny HERO - Malicious

That ought to kill most of the currently relevant decks, preventing them stealing the show, while shortening the amount of power the decks-to-support need to climb through custom cards.

I'm not sure if we should try to cut on the hand traps and try to devolve the game to be more backrow-oriented, or keep hand traps around and allow for their creation, as well as activable-from-hand Traps. I would like to discuss too cards that may be considered as overly potent such as Needlefiber and Isolde.

Participants:
Once you are accepted, please post the cards you intend to submit here for their evaluation.

Members interested more in reviewing and approving the custom cards than submitting and participating are welcome to support as reviewers. However, you cannot submit cards if you are not participating as a duelist.
