  1. It was suicide. No matter how Avis looked at the events unfolding before her, she had no plan for this. She had no concept of the rest of the group, but Nyx stood out, radiant in her darkness. She was capable of so much that even Avis would have trouble handling her... How did Nyx get here? Why was she not still down there? Did this lot of zealots free her? Last she had known, Nyx was not an issue. And if Nyx was here, did that mean... Thump. Thump. thum... Avis snapped back to reality as Tsurumi's shuriken unfolded into Sita's moonlight. While it failed to completely scatter the darkness, it did cause the shadows to falter a bit. And there it was. Rushing over at the first chance she found, without using her own abilities, she stumbled behind Sita, panting for effect. "Keep it up! I don't think we have a chance of winning against these... assailants. We don't know enough about the rest, so our best bet is to push through the darkness and run. Do you think that's something you can do!?" "Copy that," May nodded, turning her arms as if commanding the clay golem before her on puppet strings only she could see. On her command, the golem pressed its full weight against the wall of solid darkness behind the team, stopping its advance. "And once we're inside? Any suggestions?" "An indoor location would be more easily fortified if they pursue us," Austin proposed, fishing into his suit and procuring a pistol from within. With not a moment's hesitation, and free of such distractions as cheesy one-liners or asking about MIRROR's plans, he immediately took aim at Aki and fired three shots. Only for the woman among MIRROR's twins to raise her hands, creating a sheet of black metal between the back line and Austin that effortlessly deflected the bullets. "Damn." "Our best bet... is to back up the bursts of light. If she... Nyx... gets her darkness on you... you are likely done for. I can't do much, but I can inform and direct you as best I can! Just work on getting there!"
  2. Standing on ceremony was rarely advantageous. Making oneself known to world leaders was even worse still. Yet, here Avis was, doing what she had to. After all, this would easily be her best chance at retrieval without incurring the wrath of said officials. Sure, she had minced her words, as they had minced their own... But that was expected. Her 'allies' would most likely turn on her once her goal was achieved, but that was a bridge to solve as time progressed. For now, it was much more important to... "Nice to meet you!" Avis spoke with a smile, her tone bright, "I've already been introduced by the Vox Populi, so I will say that I was recently interning with Dr. Carson and the now deceased Vox Ingenium. I may have some ideas as to where the good doctor has gone, though... I wasn't privy to much information, but I paid attention to some stuff I probably should have forgotten, hehe..." She rubbed the back of her head a bit, the smile growing into a nervous smirk, "But all is well that ends well, you know?" Tedious. All of this over some... sentimentality. Didn't she know better? But even so, she couldn't shake the feeling she had to do this. If only she had never found that position. As her thoughts drifted, her heart seized in her chest, causing Avis to stumble. She waved off any concern as she began to manually resume her blood to resume its flow. "A-ah, sorry about that... my heart isn't the strongest. B-but never fear, I won't weigh you down, trust me! I've dealt with this for many years now, even though I'm not too terribly strong. In fact, I got involved because I..." Gulping suddenly and dramatically, she stood up rather straight. With a turn towards the living Voxes, her facade dropped once the others couldn't see. They knew full well where she had been, and she had the feeling one of them knew exactly what that meant... Though they likely wouldn't act. She had only let enough slip to garner some interest from her new... 'colleagues'. "Sorry, sorry! I know their research is top secret, I promise I won't say anythiiing!" Avis whined, her face returning to a concerned one as she turned back to the group she was to work with, "I, uh, really can't say anything more... I apologize!"
  3. “Wanted to keep Mahitotsu, but it is what it is. Draw!” Barely registering the card, Yukihito extended his hand to Susanowo, smirking. “You may have thought you could bluff me out, but it won’t work! So I use the effect of Susanowo, adding Bujingi Ophidian to hand! Then I’ll discard that Ophidian, and…” As Yukihito searched and discarded the monster, the wings on Susanowo’s back rumbled, glowing brighter and seeming to grow a bit larger. “You see, I can count. If I use a copy of Crane or the Sinyou in my grave, I can’t win right now, just destroy your dragon and deal some damage… but that’s what you’re planning for,” Yukihito pointed at Kendra dramatically, “I’m onto you. You know that’s what makes sense, so you planned for it. But are you prepared for me to attack you directly instead? Because that’s what Ophidian gives Susanowo the power to do! Battle! Susanowo, attack her directly and end this farce!” Kendra let out a tiny, relieved sigh as she put a hand on her head, “Here I was, worried that I stayed up reading what these cards did for nothing.” Her hand dropped down to the disk, activating the trap card. “I activate Counter Gate. When a direct attack is declared, I negate that attack and I can draw a card.” “The hell kinda shit is this!?” Yukihito’s facade crumbled, gnashing his teeth, “Who runs something like that!?” With Kendra ignoring Yukihito, the card flipped upward and a black doorway opened up… Seemingly into the vastness of space appeared in front of Susanowo. The vacuum of space pulled at it, before the monster was forced to back away as Kendra drew her card, “And if it is a monster, I can normal summon it. So, let’s summon another copy of Batteryman AAA.” She placed the card on her board, the returning duo taking a bow towards the audience as she hummed, “You know what Batteryman AAA does, but how about another effect from my dragon?” Another light orbiting Radiation Dragon vanished, replaced with 9-Volt slotting itself into a new hatch that opened on the mechanical being’s side. Radiation Dragon raised a claw towards AAA, the duo flinching for a moment… Then another pair of batteries popped free from a slot in Radiation Dragon’s palm, right as another identical duo rose next to the original. “By detaching an Xyz Material, I can special summon another Batteryman with the same name from the deck or graveyard. So I’ll be resummoning both pairs of triple A’s in my graveyard, both in defense position.” “This is absurd! And I… I won’t stand for this! I activate my set trap, Bujinfidel. By tributing Susanowo, I can return Yamato to the field! Cast aside your armaments!” The field rumbled as the trap resolved, tearing away the armaments that Yamato gained from the Xyz Summon. Once again geared up to fight, Yamato charged in and attacked the attack position AAA, reducing Kendra’s life from 2400 to 600. “And with that, I end my turn. Yamato adds Crane to my hand, and I discard Bujingi Ibis. I’d like to see you pull a miracle like that out of your ass again! All of you fucking upstarts, like that brat on your team, or my worthless sack of a sister, getting by on stupid gimmicks!” Kendra’s face remained unchanged at the ranting coming from Yukihito, “Do you mind if I take my turn? I thought you would like me to keep this brief. Draw.” She placed the card she drew back in her hand, picking the far left card and playing it, “I activate Battery Charger. By paying 500 Life Points, I can special summon a Batteryman from my grave.” A large machine, created in the image of a non-descript Batteryman appeared in front of her, the machine coming to life as she lost the life points required to activate it. “From the grave, I summon Batteryman AAA one final time.” “Final, huh? Yeah, it sure is. Though you’re getting ahead of yourself if you think you’re ending the duel on your own terms!” “Overlay.” Kendra’s face darkened for a moment as she glanced at Yukihito, “You know something? When Sai had his little moment, I called him out on it. I told him that won’t be the way to make a mark on the league, even if he did have good intentions.” As she spoke, the three pairs of Triple A batteries began to glow, hands gripped together as they broke down into light, swirling into the opening portal underneath, “You, however? You have no good intentions. I don’t know her personally, but I’m sure your sister is at least three times the person you’ll ever be.” Kendra raised her hand into the air, “Xyz Summon! Number 104: Masquerade takes the stage.” [LIGHT/Rank 5/Spellcaster/Xyz/2700/1200] As she spoke, the swirling light from the battery pairs solidified into rings, rings that rose from the portal, clutched by a masked figure. Plated blue wings that vaguely resembled a cloak spread out behind it as Kendra pointed forwards, “Battle phase. Number 104 attacks Yamato.” “What is that cheap thing?” Yukihito laughed, “Never heard of it before, but it doesn’t change anything. Sure, I activate Bujingi Hare from my grave, targeting Yamato. It won’t be destroyed by this bat-” “I detach an Xyz Material from Masquerade. The effect of Hare is negated, and you’ll take 800 damage once this resolves.” As she spoke, the bottom most ring began to faintly glow, one of the orbiting lights extinguished as Batteryman AAA appeared briefly to charge the ring. “Tsk. Well, no matter,” Yukihito shrugged as his life dropped from 6100 to 5300, “Then, at the start of the Damage Step, I’ll use Sinyou from my grave. I banish it, and Yamato will gain-” Kendra brought her hand towards Masquerade again, the second ring lightening up as the second light vanished. “Masquerade activates once more. By detaching one material, the effect is negated. You take another 800 damage.” “W-wait, what? It’s not once per turn!?” Yukihito’s face turned pale as his life drained to 4500, scrambling to respond, “At the start of damage calculation, I discard Crane! This doubles Yama-” “Perhaps you don’t know how to check cards people have just summoned?” Masquerade’s final ring began to glow, as the final orbiting light went out, scattering around it as she spoke once more, “Number 104 negates the effect. You take 800 points of damage.” “You snarky little shit!” Yukihito shouted as his life fell to 3700, only to shortly after drop again to 2700 as Yamato was destroyed, grating his teeth, “All of your gimmicks and bullshit, your stalling! Do you think this is going to gain you fans, torturing people like this!?” For the first time, Kendra let out a laugh as she tilted her head, looking at Yukihito as she looked at him, “Really? Okay, well, let’s just get it over with. I’d like to keep this brief. I attack with Ultra-Electromagnetic Radiation Dragon. When it declares an attack, I can detach a single. Oh, you might not know that, one, material from it and mill a Batteryman from my deck.” She pulled a random one, this time hitting Solar, and sent it to the graveyard. As she did, the hatch on the back of the dragon’s neck opened once more, this time letting Batteryman Solar slide itself inside… Only to get stuck there, absorbing sunlight as electricity crackled around the dragon. “Now Ultra-Electromagnetic Radiation Dragon gains double the attack and defense. Direct attack.” After a moment of silence from the arena, the announcer spoke up. “Aaaand there we have it! This round goes to Kendra Brooke of Team Genesis, having dismantled her opponent entirely! With Roland Adams of Shining winning the first game and Daichi of Genesis winning the second, Team Genesis pulls ahead!” “You cheap little…” Yukihito muttered once he collected himself, but Kendra had already walked off. ----- Falisha had returned ahead of the others, with Daichi and Kendra joining closer to one another. Vega had consoled the former a bit, seeing her threatening to grate her teeth into dust from the infuriating lockout, but turned to the latter pair with beaming smiles. “Good job, everyone~! I knew that draw with Free wouldn’t keep you all down! And, hey…” She struck a pose nodding her head as she held her chin in her hand, eyes closed and looking quite happy with herself, “Perhaps the duel I showed you all inspired you, hm hm?” Rosalia was so happy at the outcome of the match that the mention of the Team Free match didn't even elicit a stomachache. She swept forward, reaching out to take Kendra's hand in both of hers, a warm smile across her face. It was an expression the others would be very rarely used to seeing, but it was clearly and startlingly genuine. "I knew you could do it," she whispered to her vice-captain, cutting straight to the point. "Congratulations Kendra. And you too, Daichi," she added, pitching her volume higher and giving Sai a significant look, her head tilted towards his fellow Action Duelist. “Yes, you both performed so well!” Vega beamed, though she now took a position with her hands on her hips, chest jutted out, and grinning wide, “Everyone on the team has shown off what they’re capable of now, so you guys should start making a good name for yourselves. Who knows… maybe the comparisons to Team Origin might come in handy!” "And perhaps the display we just saw will inspire us in future duels," Evelyn added. "Great work, team! I'm not really sure I what Daichi and Lance were saying to each other sometimes, but it looks like you had fun, and the crowd seemed to like it too." There was the desire to cast a glance in Sai's direction at that last part, but Evelyn resisted. She did, however, flick her sight between the two of them as she briefly thought about something the two seemed to have in common. "Are action duelists always so showy, by the way?" "They really, really are!" The coach laughed, "Adrian would probably kill me for saying that, but it's the truth!" ----- Vega left soon after, congratulating the team and giving them a card to a nice restaurant to go celebrate, if they so wanted. On the sponsors’ tab, of course. They had surely earned it. And maybe more eyes would be drawn to them in that regard, as she saw it. ----- Tuesday, March 4 3 PM “Alright everyone, we are heading into our fourth match! 2 wins and a draw under our belts is pretty solid, should definitely get you guys on more sponsors rad-” As Vega spoke, the door to the office room of their meeting space opened, and a blonde woman with blue-green eyes stepped inside. She looked to be in her late 30s, peeking her head in for a moment, as the coach’s face drained of color. “Oh good, I got the right address!” The woman chimed in, humming as she looked about the place, eyes darting about, making eye contact with each member of the team for a slightly longer time than comfortable, as if reading them. “Uhh… Mom, it’s… great to see you. Why are you here, exactly?” Vega forced a smile as the woman walked over, wrapping an arm around Vega’s shoulders, even though she stood about 4 inches shorter, and flashing the same grin the team had come to expect from their coach. “Why wouldn’t I wanna see you with your team? Adrian was telling me how happy they’ve made you, and how proud of them you are even now! Oh, by the by, you all can call me Maddy. Nice to meetcha!”
  4. "No worries, no worriessss," Helena hummed, walking up behind Scully and Mahli with Jackie balanced on her head. The Pumpkaboo chirped a greeting as Helena walked up next to the other two. She now carried an overstuffed hiking backpack, complete with a bedroll at the bottom, seemingly without any issue at all, "What's a few minutes on a long adventure like this? I'm sure the extra prep time is more valuable than the little bit of time lost, and it certainly looks like he was having fun!" She motioned towards Aruto with a showman's flair. Jackie rolled down from her head and across her arm, letting out a meep as she ended up sitting on Helena's extended palm. "In the meantime, I'll introduce you to my partners. This is Jackie, she's a small one. And this..." She snapped her fingers, causing her Klefki to jingle as it popped out from behind Mahli, holding the belt that had previously been around his waist, "Lockpick! Give that back, right this instant! You can't prank our new friends this soon!"
  5. "Yes... it's all gone. Everything. It looks like we were the lucky recipients of the Fount of Sacrifice's attempts to save people. The people I talked to told me that she used our complex to smash the snakes... Eh?" April sat in the remains of the bar long after everyone left, phone up to her ear as she worked on a small notepad, penciling in her thoughts as she talked to the person on the other line. "I swear I'm fine, Tressa. I can't say the same for all my stuff, but..." April sighed, "I'm gonna try and get to the bottom of this story. I can't say much right now, but I feel like I can afford to fix this if I do it right. No, I don't want you to just pay for everything. You're finally off the ground, you need money to get moving forward! Stay with one of your model friends for a bit, I have something lined up here. Yeah, I'll be fine. I'll see you soon. Love ya." Hanging up the phone, April leaned back in her chair, sighing loudly to the open sky above. Yeah, she had something lined up- sleeping in the rubble. Not even enough money to get a hotel room on a night like this, with lots of people having been displaced. Who also had all their belongings and homes disappear in an instant. Reaching into her pocket, April produced a small bauble that slightly resembled an angel, holding it up above her head. The edges of the wings were tattered and frayed, and any semblance of a face that it may have once had was rubbed away, clearly a well loved item. Tears streaked down her face as she spoke, voice coming out slightly shaky. "Well, at least I still have your protection, Karina... Aaand I am talking to a lucky charm. I must be losing it." ----- 1st District, 11:15 AM - Outside the Perimeter April arrived not too late, but not perfectly on time. Turned out that sleeping on bar-stools wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world. She listened from afar as things went down, flicking her eyes to watch the girl that bumped into Kiyoko, but never keeping her eyes locked too long. There was too much to observe. The way the police handled the perimeter, the random onlookers... It felt weird. Fewer police than she expected given the situation. Then Elita hatched her plan and was off in just a few moments with Tempest. "God damn it... I guess shady can only manage the two of them. Wish I had that idea..." April grumbled, " So, do the rest you wanna-" The antics of Kess and Leo cut her off before she could continue, soon gritting her teeth as she looked about warily. "Hey, limey, zappy, knock that shit off!" She snapped, "You lot have a good chance of the cops looking for you after yesterday. If the rumors about shadow boy are anything to go by, most of you are known. Don't draw unneeded attention to all of you. If you can't bother behaving, fuck off and do it somewhere else. And don't ask for any help this time if you get fucked up." She rubbed her brow as she sighed, her free hand gripping the other elbow. "Honestly, little miss cultist and her friend behave much better than you two, and they're kids. Anyway, as I was originally saying... Maybe we should try to investigate elsewhere? I don't think waiting for them here is an option, with the state of the city right now. Maybe there's somewhere else with clues for us to find, like the police station or the mayor's home? Any thoughts, shopkeep, beastman, girls?" ----- 1st District, 11:15 AM - Samsara Tower Remains As the unlikely duo of Elita and Tempest journeyed further in, they would eventually happen upon another unlikely duo- the police chief, Nika Volkov, and a man with her. The man looked about the area, rubbing his chin as he took it all in, while Nika looked on calmly. After a few moments, he turned back to her and spoke. "And you said there was no security on site yesterday, beyond the holiday skeleton crew?" His eyes were scanning the area, looking for anything that seemed out of place. "Correct. Many of the force stated a desire to be with their families and friends. The remainder were those desiring overtime." "None seen entering?" "No reports of the like." He paused, tapping his chin lightly as he contemplated the possibilities for what could have happened, "I'm assuming 99's still in her cell?" "Correct." "Yeah. Not her brand anyway." The man sighed, stuffing his hands into the pockets of the long wool jacket he wore, "You got any theories?" Nika paused for a moment and considered her words carefully, her gaze icy as she looked at the man. "None that I wish to lend credence to." "Humor me." "On the condition that not a word of this is spoken until we know the truth of the matter." "Naturally, what do you think the P in PI stands for?" "Point taken. The only logical conclusion I can draw is that Stratford did this. I did not know he had the ability to do so, but there is nothing that I currently know that could disprove this theory. The people of Megalopolis believe in him, after all." The man was taken aback for a moment, an expression of shock on his face, "Oh, I mean, I thought that much was obvious. Only other I figure would be able to exhibit raw power like would be one of those dragons, and all we've got to go on there is rumors." the man paused, before continuing. "And actually it stands for Private, not 'Point Taken'." "I do not wish to think of the mayor doing this," Nika's expression hardened, "There is no need for the cheeky commentary, Mr. Spencer."
  6. First things first: Other card games are not inherently more balanced. Pokemon has wild issues with powercreep and set design, and MTG has plenty of complexity creep. Especially in modern times as they march onward to people's wallets alone, it is not a great time to be saying MTG is more balanced. Next up, as far as the Performapal Performage format went... It was entirely kneejerk. The deck is widely accepted to be the weaker variant between Dracopal and itself, despite the former surviving and thriving even after PePe died. Not to mention, they were strong cards printed into a power vacuum after everything else had been hit. For Christ's sake, Kozmo was a premiere deck. People wanted Kozmo to be nerfed into the ground and, not long after, for Blue-Eyes to get bans because it was the "best deck"... ignoring that these were cases of decks being good in formats where the actual good cards got hit. Not to say the Pal variants weren't good, just that the "Tier 0" nature was due to the vacuum they sat in, not due to their power level being creep. A lot of the ZeXal and VRAINS era decks were far worse game environments than PePe or Dracopal ever were. People just hate pendulums and have since launch, so it was easy to kneejerk when they were good. Complexity is a thing in yugioh, but we have (for the most part) hit a peak with it. Unlike other card games that have marched on with complexity creep in recent times. Yugioh has it bad in wording for sure, and that's an issue that's been around for a long time, not anything new. I'd like to codify it more, but it's largely an issue with the rather strict rules that yugioh is built upon, as opposed to looser rules of other card games. This is a major structural issue, but please do not act as if it is only yugioh that has pushed forward with complexity. You're also making a false equivalency with a game like Chess as a comparison. They are day and night, and there's not much of any point in saying "but does it have the longevity of chess", when Chess is a solved and static game. This is not to call it a bad game by any means, but it is absolutely incomparable. Saying that it's too luck based to be strategic is also just incorrect. I know you stated it as a joke, but it's... not a joke that needs to keep being brought up. Yes, sometimes you just lose, because one hand was better than the other. But that is not nearly as common as it is implied to be. There's a lot about matchups to learn, not to mention about how other players play if you're going to be regularly participating against them. To answer why I play yugioh... not even close to just nostalgia. I enjoy the openness of the card game, despite its strict rules, and the ability to solve and go through things. Sure, combos that start with Firewall Defender and use almost all of your ED for one "strong" board aren't good, but they are uniquely Yu-Gi-Oh. And that's not even all that I find fun. I tend towards Midrange, which ygo has in spades, but it has its fair share of control, stun, and even combo or beatdown. The game is more varied and open than it is given credit for at many points. Sure, there are decks I fucking hate playing against (as does anyone else), but that doesn't mean that the game is ruined due to them or any such drivel.
  7. "Yeesh, the director sure is longwinded," Helena mused as she exited the courtyard, en route to the main hall, "And that's after Salvatore's 'class'. This academy is so much more than I bargained for. But it's been fun being somewhere so different, don't you think, Jackie?" A small Pumkaboo that was cradled in her arms let out a small coo as if in agreement, earning a grin from her trainer. "I wonder how the Treasure Hunt's going to impact my work, though... I mean yeah, we have contests to look forward to, but that doesn't mean I wanna put the other projects on the backburner. Decisions, decisions..." Upon arriving at the crowded main hall, Helena stopped and pondered for a moment. She could see her name and group number from where she was, but she couldn't get to the board with all the other students... After considering her options, she cleared her throat. "Up up, Jackie." As the little ghost-type flew up and out of Helena's arms, Jackie tilted her head to the side in a questioning manner. The humanities student quickly pulled out a scrap of paper and a pen, quickly scrawling a message on it. A moment later, she had fetched another pokeball, letting her second pokemon out. As the Klefki popped out, it look about furtively, jingling wildly. "No, Lockpick, no mischief. Not yet, at least. For now, I need you to take this," She held the paper up, "And pin it to that board over there. Think you can handle it?" Helena had to stifle a laugh as the Klefki before her almost looked offended, puffing up cheeks it did not have. It snatched the slip of paper and flew above the students clamoring for the board, only to descend just enough to attach it to the board, before heading back. When it did, Helena could swear she heard an audible puff, the pokemon looking up and closing its eyes as if to puff out its chest. "I knew you could do it, good job! I'll make sure to give you something fun to do later." Lockpick jingled happily before being put back in its ball. Turning towards the door Helena hummed, "Hopefully they'll all see that~" As the Pumpkaboo flew after her, the note remained pinned to the board written with a brightly colored header: ----- After arriving at the meeting spot she had set up, Helena removed her backpack and set it down on the ground. She then turned around and slide against the wall until she was sitting with her knees bunched in front of her. Rummaging through the bag on her right, she produced a heavy binder and a pencil, tapping the eraser to her lips. "Now, what do I need to flesh out next..."
  8. Blake

    Blake does a Genlocke

Long time no update! That's cause all was going well! And then, bad luck at N and Ghetsis that piled up and cost me. Still, made it all the way to Gen 5! There was also another lost run, but I ended up pretty fucking upset on that one so...
  9. The remainder of the week flew by before Saturday, with the team gathering once again. Each of the duelists would find Vega waving to them from the booth above as they entered, earlier than she usually was. Waiting in the booth, she had snacks for Sai, Rosalia, and Eve, a mouthful of gummy worms interfering with her greetings to them. ----- “In the standard duel setting, we have Team Shining’s Yukihito Hifumi taking the stage, facing off against Kendra Brooke from Team Genesis, her first duel in the circuit! Will she be as charming as many find their action duelist, Daichi, or will she crash and burn like Sai!?” “My, the announcer is really rolling out the red carpet for you. Makes me kinda jealous,” Yukihito’s voice dripped as he took the stage, “Surely you can’t be as bad as that guy was, right? At least able to keep me a bit entertained?” Kendra shrugged her shoulders briefly as she stepped forward, her eyes opening up after a momentary yawn, “Side effect of not being seen dueling yet, that’s all. Mystery of the unknown and all.” She waved a hand in the air gently, glancing towards Yukihito as she frowned a tiny bit, “He might have deserved the dig from the announcer, but you? Wait until later to make your comments, please. I would like to keep this relatively professional.” “Got a bit of a mouth on you, huh?” Her opponent smirked as he drew his opening hand, glancing over the cards, “Besides, we won’t be here long, so it shouldn’t be difficult to keep that professional for you.” “Wonderful.” Kendra’s eyes rolled briefly as she activated her duel disk, the older model blades coming together in front of her as she spoke. With no delay, she drew her own hand, taking a glance towards the screen above them. “Normal Summon, Batteryman AAA.” [LIGHT Thunder; Level 4; 0/0] There was a brief flash as Kendra placed the card down on the disk, a pair of green and purple batteries appeared in front of her. The pair pointed to the air as Kendra lifted another copy of Batteryman AAA in front of her, pointed towards Yukihito as she spoke, “When I normal summon it, I can summon another copy from my hand.” Another flash and another pair of batteries tumbled from the sky, clacking together before they rose up in front of her. Just as quickly, the figures began to coalesce into two, purple orbs, “I overlay the two Batteryman AAA to Xyz Summon, Tornado Dragon.” [WIND Wyrm; Rank 4; 2100/2000] The tell tale sign of an Xyz Summon, the galaxy spiral appeared before her as she held her hand out, wind billowing from it as it collected into a single mass. The semi transparent creature took a more defined form as the portal underneath it faded, leaving wyrm there as Kendra set a single card on the field. “Your turn.” “Ah, so you guys really a-” “AND THERE WE HAVE IT, FOLKS! The final member of Team Genesis uses Xyz, like was speculated, like Team Origin of the major leagues!” “Yes, that,” Yukihito growled softly, “You guys really are just cheap knockoffs. You got the best end of the deal it seems, but even so…” He drew for turn, “At least it’s some identity, unlike my sister. I normal summon Bujin Yamato!” [LIGHT Beast-Warrior; Level 4; 1800/200] Slapping the card onto his board, crystallized light began to form, features carving onto it as the humanoid figure emerged, putting its fists up as if it was ready to brawl. Yukihito quickly set two spell and traps behind it before adding on, “Then I activate the Continuous Spell, Kaiser Colosseum.” As the spell resolved, a glowing circle appeared beneath both Yamato and Tornado Dragon, with a set of glowing rings raising around each monster. “While I control this card, neither player can control more than one monster. I’d like to do more, but for now… I’ll pass. Oh, but before I go…” Yukihito’s deck yielded a card, which he revealed to be Bujingi Crane, adding it to his hand and discarding a different card, “Yamato lets me search a Bujin in the end phase, provided I discard a card after. Anyway, your turn. Please, keep it brief.” Kendra tapped the screen modded to her duel disk, taking a brief glance at it, before pointing towards Tornado Dragon, “During your End Step, I’ll detach one Xyz Material from Tornado Dragon to destroy…” Her finger moved, pointing at random towards one of the two backrow Yukihito had just set, “That.” The wind collected around Tornado Dragon’s wings suddenly burst forwards, looping around each other towards the set card. It was whipped upwards into the air, revealing Raigeki Break to the crowd, before it was shattered into pieces. “Draw.” “Lucky shot,” the Bujin duelist muttered as Kendra looked over her hand. “Bet that’s all you’re good for.” As Kendra drew her card, she yawned softly, bringing a hand up to brush her displaced bangs out of her eyes, “Oh yes, you got me. That’s why I haven’t dueled yet. I’ll use Tornado Dragon’s other material now.” Another flurry of wind was projected from the Wyrm’s body, this time targeting- “Kaiser Colosseum.” The wind whipped through the constructed environment around the two of them, causing it to tear apart at the seams. It crumbled around them as Kendra pulled another card from her hand, placing it onto the disk, “Normal Summon, Batteryman 9-Volt.” [LIGHT Thunder; Level 4; 1000/1000] Once again rising in front of her was exactly that… A 9-volt battery. After a moment, arms and legs sprouted on either side of it, leaving just a head to rise up atop it. The figure rose a hand into the air, electricity sparking around it as a single card popped free from Kendra’s deck. “When I summon it, I can add one Batteryman from my deck to my hand. I’ll grab another 9-Volt.” She pointed forward, “In addition, I double its attack and defense," [1000/1000 > 2000/2000], "Battle Phase. 9-Volt attacks Yamato.” “Seriously? Do you not know how to check cards that people add to their hand?” Yukihito laughed, discarding a card, “I activate the Bujingi Crane I searched! During this battle step, Yamato’s attack is doubled, and 9-Volt is destroyed!” As the battery approached the beast-warrior, it would be met with the luminescent bird falling from the sky onto Yamato’s back, a brief flash of a different form appearing over it. As its attack rose from 1800 to 3600, it punched through the battery, causing it to explode as Kendra’s life fell from 4000 to 2400. Kendra just sent her monster to the Graveyard as she nodded her head, “Tornado Dragon attacks Yamato.” Her arm rose again, this time directing the windy mass to focus on the 'beast'-warrior in front of it. The wind billowed around them as it lashed towards Yamato. However, the attack was met with an invisible barrier, briefly shining with rainbow colors. Yukihito’s Life Points rose from 4000 to 6100 as he chuckled. “I had Draining Shield as a backup. Really should’ve known I wasn’t going to just let Yamato die. Still, more of a challenge than some of the others in this league,” Yukihito smirked, “So, as I asked before, please hurry it up.” Kendra shrugged with one arm, glancing at her hand as she did, “Apologies. We don’t all play decks that sit on a single monster.” She plucked a card from her hand, activating it as she spoke, the spell appearing in front of her, “I activate One Day of Peace. I’m sure you know what this does, no?” “Ugh, yeah, you’re stalling for time. Rather inconsiderate of you, if you ask me.” He griped as he drew his card from the spell. “Mhm, I’m the worst, aren’t I?” She drew her own card as she glanced at it, “Until the end of your next turn, neither of us can take damage. I’ll end my turn there.” ----- "Well, things could be going worse," Vega mused, ignorant of the gummy worm stuck to her cheek, "But wow, that guy's kinda a piece of work, huh? I heard the minor leagues were sometimes like this, but I had no clue they let pricks like this through. Nnnnnot that we have much room to judge."

Got a fun update, before I restart back at yellow tomorrow. the new naming scheme is VIDEO GAMES! There are some joke entries, but here's the list of names going on a wheel to be randomized. Thanks to bree, mel, and joseph for help.

A few mistakes and a lot of absolutely cursed RNG across the run led to a wipe at Drake in Emerald.

    Blake does a Genlocke

another cleared run, followed by a fairly early wipe to Whitney. Miltank's first stomp hit through 6x evasion boost, then she crit both the Croconaw and the Geodude on my team, meaning i could not recover. Sigh.

Ye, thought I can honestly remake it for the most part. Nidoking and Exeggutor are up in the air, but the rest of it is guaranteed to be achievable.

So, there will be an update. In fact, have this teaser. I successfully beat Yellow, with only 1 death! Pikachu! However... I wiped very early into Gen 2 due to some really poor RNG against Falkner. So I have to redo Yellow now. Yay.
  15. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nuzlocking! In this blog series, I will play each generation of Pokemon sequentially, chronicling it as I go. But first... RULES 1. Standard nuzlocke rules. Permadeath, first encounter per route, nickname every encounter. The whole shebang. 1B: Not allowed to level beyond the next Gym Leader's strongest Pokemon. Set Mode only. 2. One game per generation, plus BW2. Remakes were considered, but ruled out because I do not want to purchase BDSP. 3. If I use a Pokemon, I cannot use it in future Nuzlockes in this series. 4. If I lose a run, I have to start over. Back at the first game. 5. The only Legendary Pokemon/Ultra Beasts allowed are Raikou/Entei, Mesprit, Tornadus/Thundurus, Zygarde, and Poipole/Naganadel. 6. The run goes as long as the game has its main story mode. For example, A Gen 2 run continues through Red. Now, I do have some worries about Rule #3. After all, this means I have to actually plan out my encounters from the outset. For example, Rattata. In Gen 1-2 it's pretty bad, but it's actually pretty solid in later game Nuzlockes. So, if at all possible, I would like to avoid hitting it in Gen 1 or 2, which means that, when I can help it, I will possibly avoid encounters. So, where are we going to start? Obviously Gen 1, but... I think going with the definitive versions is more fun. Pokemon Yellow coming soon! First Pokemon ruled out for Gen 2 onwards: Pikachu
  16. "That's the question, isn't it?" -39- Stepping forward, a woman slammed her hand on the bar itself, causing the liquid that Leo had just poured to slosh in its place. She scowled as she looked out over the group of founts that had taken on Stratford and his beasts, gritting her teeth a bit... before letting out a sigh. She stood up properly and brushed some hair from her face, before continuing. "I suppose I should introduce myself, since you guys seem at least a bit chummy with each other. My name is April Soleil. I'm an investigative journalist, and all of this started while I was stranded a couple districts over. By the time I managed to come back, I found 'guvna' back there passed out inside of Samsara Tower, and, as you can see," she took a moment to motion to the roof, or lack thereof, "the fact that I am now homeless. So, what I wanna know is why. Why did the mayor do this? Why did each of you join in? Why does my insurance not cover giant monster attacks in a place filled with founts? Hell if I know any of it... First and foremost, which of you took down Stratford? If I'm gonna make enough to get back on my feet, I'm gonna need the first answers from those of you who stopped this. Don't give me any of that modest hero bull, I hate writing schlock like this, but a girl's gotta put a roof over her head." Before anyone else could chime in, April looked back at Leo, finding him staring at her, and earning himself a rather disgusted look in response. "The fuck do you want?" "Dincha have blue eyes when I seen you before, bossgal?" "... You must've experienced more blunt force trauma than I thought. Should get yourself to the hospital and get your head checked, cause my eyes have been yellow since the day I was born." "You know, that guy is responsible for preventing quite a lot of damage to the surrounding people, even if listening to him talk makes my ears bleed." Ryo Kataki piped up in Leo's defense, albeit in her own venomous way, grabbing one of the shot glasses and kicking it back like an expert. "Wasn't my property he protected, was it? If anything, I think he owes me for saving his life." "Considering he saved my life, I guess that debt will pass right on." reaching into her purse, Ryo extracted a simple white wallet. She pulled out a few high value bills and tossed them on the counter before April, "Don't waste it. Now as this busybody was asking, does anyone here know what the hell got this started, and how the hell it ended?" April's brow raised at the busybody comment, but picked up the money and counted it before stuffing it in a pocket. Leaning back against the bar, she let the others begin to chime in, quietly taking in everything she could.
  17. As the dust settled on the first snake's successful slaying at the hands of Sarashina and Kiyoko, the second of the train-beasts began its own assault on the duo that had overcome its companion. As Sarashina charged forward to meet the beast, the air beside her sang as something flew past her, spearing the roof of the snake's mouth and knocking it back. "There's nothing left to fear! I am here!" -33- With the snake attempting to rise back up, a woman appeared pinning it down with the object that had been embedded in its head. Her mouth curled in a huge grin as she looked back to the others who had not been fighting the first serpent, giving them a thumbs up before turning back to the serpent. With a herculean effort, she roared as she hoisted the snaked up, slamming the other end of the destroyed sign into the ground to immobilize the beast. "You guys may wanna back up, because... 3, 2..." She began, her voice trailing off as a shadow began to fall over her, looking up with that same grin, "Well, there you go." As a piece of a nearby building fell down towards the snake, the woman dashed away with inhuman speed, snatching Kiyoko from her spot and running with the girl over her shoulder, even as the building crashed into the snake, decimating the serpent. Setting Kiyoko down, she gave the girl's head a pat as she turned to face the third serpent. With a crack of her knuckles, she looked over her shoulder at Kiyoko with her right eye. "Think you can pull a building down on this thing with that book? Doing it by hand is pretty tough, even for me!"
  18. Feel free not to answer if it's too personal or you simply don't want to go into it, but... As my fellow they/X, I'm very curious about your experience, rather than mine, and would just like to listen to you explain a bit about yourself in that regard, so that I can expand my horizons a bit. What led to you being... you, i suppose?
