Disciples of the Strongest Hero [OoC/PG-16/Not Started/Accepting]

Recommended Posts

Introduction:

Spoiler

The following RP begins at the end of Season 1 of the One Punch Man anime. I am using information from the OPM wiki that may be spoilers for Season 2. If you are really concerned about this, please let me know.

Following the invasion of the Dark Matter Thieves and the subsequent destruction of A-City and the Hero Association Headquarters, the surrounding cities were flooded with citizens escaping the loss of their homes. Already under strain by string of attacks at the hand of many groups of Mysterious Beings, the cities were unable to accommodate the refugees.

As a result, all cities in the region experienced massive crime waves as refugees struggled to survive and criminals moved to take advantage of the situation. To make matters worse, with the destruction of their headquarters, the Hero Association was rendered blind and unable to coordinate heroes to stem the rising tide of crime. Without the coordination of HQ, the populace was left to fend for themselves, with most heroes only managing to respond to crime after the damage was done and the perpetrators already in hiding.

In an effort to protect their communities, citizens organized grassroots campaigns to coordinate their cities heroes. Neighbourhood watches became a constant sight in all cities, reporting criminal activities and Mysterious Beings wherever they appeared. In addition to neighbourhood watches, new heroes arose to meet the new demand. Neighbourhood watches “inducted” these new heroes without the approval of the Hero Association, giving them rankings based on their abilities.

The Hero Association was initially disavowed these new heroes. The Hero Association maintained a fine balance between the heroes, keeping the number of member heroes static to reduce the pressure of competition between heroes and keeping them fighting crime rather than each other. However, once news spread of the Hero Association's stance on the fledgling heroes, the public outcry was enormous. Both the mainstream media and social media railed against the Association, calling their efficacy into question and even suggesting their disbandment.

Caving to public pressure, the Hero Association provisionally expanded the size of the A, B, and C classes and coordinated with the city authorities to set up temporary testing areas for all the informal heroes wishing to make themselves official. Not all hometown heroes registered with the Association. Some were simply unable to pass the testing process, others abstained, pointing out the clear neglect the Association shows to non S-class heroes as proof of an inherently flawed system.

During this time, the popularity around the new breakout hero Saitama, also known as Caped Baldy, slowly grew among both citizens and heroes. While not formally recognized as S-Class by the Hero Association, many of the fans of Saitama believe that it was he, not the S-Class heroes, that defeated the leader of the Dark Matter Thieves and saved the region from total annihilation. An anonymous user and de facto leader of the fanbase, only known as bl0nd_b0rg, help inspire a small but growing group of heroes who choose the hero’s path not for fame or fortune, but for the pursuit of justice, cultivation of physical and spiritual strength, and most importantly, for the joy of it.

Must Read for Players:

Spoiler

You will be playing as a newly recruited hometown hero who recently joined the Hero Association. While you have your own reasons for joining the Association, you will also be inspired by Saitama’s simple philosophy to being a hero, leading you to avoid being a hero solely for fame and fortune and to band together with other like-minded heroes.

Your character can be of any class that is not S class, as S class characters are the ones that the show tends to focus on and I believe that including new S class heroes in the story would interfere too much with canon. I will be strongly preferring characters of B or C class, as I believe they would make for a more interesting story, as the show already showcases many A and S class heroes.

This RP will be divided into short arcs revolving around a monster or a villain of the week. The characters will be summoned to fight an appropriate threat. When the threat is resolved, there will be some time in between for characters to interact and to deal with the rewards (and consequences) of their actions while dealing with their threat.

The Hero Classification System:

Spoiler

Member heroes of the Hero Associations are ranked initially based on their abilities as rated by a testing process and later by a combination of their popularity and their accomplishments. Heroes who defeat powerful threats rise through the ranks faster. Salaries, restrictions, responsibilities and mission assignments are all based on a heroes rank. Each rank has a set number of heroes that can be a part of the class. Those who become rank 1 of their class become eligible for promotion to the next class up. However, promotion through the ranks is rare since those holding rank 1 of their class tend to become gatekeepers, stopping anyone below them from climbing to the next rank.

S-class: Members of the S-class are among the strongest of all known heros, each one being as powerful as an entire military division. As such, S-class is the smallest of all classes, including only 17 heros. The Hero Association did not increase the size of this class.

A-class: Members of the A-class are not as powerful as those in S-class, but are still among the most powerful heroes and are also among the most popular of all heroes. As a part of being ranked in A-class, heroes in this class must take part in a mentorship program for newly recruited heroes. The current holder of rank 1 of A-class is Sweet Mask, who has acted as a gatekeeper to S-class, keeping anyone he considers “unworthy” from ascending to S-class. Going against the advice of Sweet Mask, the Hero Association has provisionally increased the size of A-class from 38 to 43 members.

B-class: Members of B-class are not required to meet the weekly quotas of C-class heroes, giving them a lot more freedom in choosing their missions. The current holder of rank 1 of B-class is Fubuki, Blizzard of Hell, who is infamous for the “newbie crushing” activities that some heroes do to maintain their positions. The size of B-class was increased by the Association from 101 heroes to 150 heroes, having the largest increase of all classes.

C-class: Members of C-class are the weakest among the Association, but are often much stronger than the average person. Most heros are placed in this class when they first join, unless they score high enough during the testing process. Due to the number of powerful hometown heros, a great deal of new heroes have skipped this class and went straight to B-class. C-class heroes are required to perform weekly heroic acts to justify their membership to the Association. Those who do not make the quota are removed from the Hero Registry. The current holder of rank 1 in C-class is Mumen Rider, a hero well known for his unwavering pursuit of justice and community outreach. The size of C-class increased slightly, from 390 to 400. The turnover in C-class is high and heroes rise and fall quickly in the rankings.

Unregistered: Not an official rank, used to denote active heroes who are not in the Hero Registry. Heroes who do not join the Hero Association are considered “weirdos” and are not given any credit or media attention for their heroic deeds.

Disaster Level System:

Spoiler

The Hero Association rates threats that they identify on a scale based on their threat to the people, the cities and the world.

Wolf: A threat rated Wolf is something that could possibly pose a threat to multiple people. Most threats that are identified are rated Wolf and escalated if later reports indicate a larger threat. The average Wolf threat requires 3 C-class heroes or 1 B-class hero to be defeated.

Tiger: A threat rated Tiger is something that endangers the lives of a great number of people. The average Tiger threat requires 5 B-class heroes or 1 A-class hero to be defeated.

Demon: A threat rated Demon is something that threatens an entire city and its infrastructure. An average Demon threat requires 10 A-class heroes or 1 S-class hero to be defeated.

Dragon: A threat rated Dragon is something endangers multiple cities.

God: A God rated threat is something that endangers the survival of all humanity.

Noting interest. Might post an app later.

EDIT:

Solar Powered

solarbarian.png
“Bright. Light. Shine. Burn!”

Character Name: Douglas Fitzgerald

Alias: Solarbarian

Age: 45

Sex: Male

Class: B

Appearance

barbarian_king_by_shiantu_d4k2gba-pre.jp

Douglas stands at about 7' tall without armor and weighs about 220 lbs. With it, he stands about 8' weighing close to 300 lbs. With his body being mostly muscle, his figure reveals itself to be incredibly ripped, veiny if he's exerting himself. Due to his power, his skin pigments have adapted to handle prolonged exposure to sunlight, giving it a dark yellowish color with a splash of lowlighted spots as well as tan lines from his clothing and armor. Due to his glowing skin, his eyes have adapted to direct sunlight, giving him vision in brightly-lit areas but causing a layer of white tissue to cover his irises and pupils, making them appear blank.

Over his clothes, which consist simply of a wife-beater and light shorts (no underpants), he wears a set of heavy armor composed of a chestplate (steel along the front, chainmail around), a scale mail sash, horned helmet, shoulder pauldrons, and boots all made of gold-plated steel. Attached to the back collar of the chestplate is a ripped cape, that he intentionally hasn't had repaired. Finally, he leaves a sheath on his back to hold his greatsword that glows like his skin, keeping a chain on the hilt for extended reach.

Personality

Proud, arrogant, and straight to the point. Douglas resembles the physique and attitude of any beefy strongman too cocky for his own good. With skin as hard as a dragon’s, almost nothing gets to him, but when it does, you best hope the sun isn’t shining at that time. Either way, Douglas on duty exuberates two feelings: comfort and fear. Anyone who knows him know that he is there to protect anyone from harm, and anyone who dares to go against him better be in for the fight of their life.

Despite his large and intimidating presence, he makes up for it in lack of intelligence. His primary course of action is more direct and forceful rather than tactical and cautious, which often puts him at a disadvantage against the more clever villains. Additionally, Solarbarian's speech is limited and grunty, having never spoken very often or with enough practice. In the grand scheme of things, he is by no means the brains or charisma of the group, but his strength is put to good use.

Powers

Sunlight Absorption:

Solarbarian absorbs sunlight and channels it into amplified solar energy, granting him various effects and abilities:

Increased Physical Ability: The more sunlight he has absorbed, the stronger, faster, and more durable he becomes.

Harnessable Greatsword: He wields a giant sword that is able to channel the energy he has stored within him. While harnessed, the blade acts as an extension of Solarbarian himself, becoming practically weightless while dealing a burst of radiance with each blow.

Energy Release:

While harnessing solar energy, Solarbarian can release it in the form of pure condensed light in a variety of ways:

Solar Beam: Releases a beam of light from his palm.

Solar Slash: Releases an arc of solar energy in a direction where he slashes his sword.

Solar Burst: Releases a burst of energy that deals damage to anything within a certain radius of him.

Strengthened Martial Arts: Can gather energy into his fists to increase the strength of his unarmed strikes.

Solar Protection: Can condense solar energy around his skin to act as extra protection. Can also be formed into a shield.

Background:

Strong from the very beginning, Douglas was birthed through C-section after his vitals went critical during labor. However, he miraculously survived a prolonged period of near-fatal readings that a normal newborn would not have been so lucky with. Since then, genetics were irrelevant to his abnormally fast-growing strength and build. At a young age, he was known to tower over other kids in school, but his intimidating presence acted more as a sign of hope than a means of asserting dominance on the playground. As he kept growing, he kept working to keep in the best shape he could in order to take his stance on school grounds to new heights amongst the streets of the city, making his presence known.

Throughout his growth, however, his miraculous birth triggered a mutation in his skin that made it especially sensitive to sunlight. While his muscles grew larger and more defined, his skin grew rough, lumpy, and hard. Doctors assumed it to be cancer, but no signs or symptoms showed. It wasn't until he noticed how much more powerful he felt when the sun was shining on him. His skin would radiate, he would move faster, and he would be able to lift things heavier than he was used to. Knowing his place in the world at last, he sought to try out to be a professional hero and learn to utilize his abilities to the fullest.

Crackling Justice

Spoiler

LoHCtAP.png
"The wicked will kneel before Jack, The Raging Storm!"

Character Name: Jack
Age: 22
Sex: Male

Appearance

Spoiler

br2UDtX.png

Jack stands at a rather tall 6'2" with his usual cobalt attire. Underneath his dark, azure cloak is a rather unassuming business attire, although it is rather unprofessionally put on with the coat unbuttoned and the shirt not tucked in. To match his rather debonair appearance is a pair of black dress shoes shined as to reflect his blue and black lightning. Contrasting his blue color scheme is rather striking amber eyes that glow when he is using his powers.

Personality

Spoiler

The thing Jack probably loves the most in this world is himself. He is, after all, The Raging Storm as he called himself. This confidence, of course, leads to his clamoring for media attention. He loves being in the center of the spot light, and by extension makes him very much a show off. As one would imagine, he is rather outgoing due to this, always open to talk about himself. He is also a decent listener - after all, one has to be in order to hear the good they have to say about him.

While he bears a "better than you" personality which gets him in trouble constantly, he still cares for what he considers his underlings. In fact, he holds a strong position that it is the strong's obligation to protect the weak; any that use their strength to push around the weak are the definition of evil. While a good thing for those who truly are weaker than him, this does make him come off as  condescending, especially when he's talking down to his fellow heroes who might be stronger than he is.

Jack is a force of will, holding strong to his ideals and actions. He is quick on his feet, being able to quickly adapt any plan he makes on the fly, but he is also very stubborn. Once he has a goal in mind, there isn't much that can stop him from achieving it, for better or worse. Despite his stubbornness, however, he liked to play it cool, both for the sake of his power and for his public image.

Powers

Spoiler

Jack's power is to be able to conduct and manipulate his own lightning and thunder - a sort of electrokinesis. This ranges from your standard shooting lightning bolts at the bad guy to being able to cause the booming sound of thunder with the snap of his fingers to super charging his fists for a devastating blow. While he is able to create lighting, and he is able to bend it, the lightning itself, much like real lighting, is rather unpredictable and fast. His lightning is very much like a metaphorical bull - powerful, but unwieldy. As a byproduct of his power, he is unharmed by electricity and he himself makes for a better conductor than most people.

The black and cyan lightning he creates is an extension of his emotion - when keeping his cool his lighting is more direct and easier (although not easy) to control and manipulate. When he had less control over his feelings, he has less control in both where his lightning strikes and how powerful it is, causing wild and chaotic devastation to many around him. The color of his lighting reflects this - the more cyan and bright the lighting is, the more controlled it is. The darker, the more wild. It is, however, always a combination of the two colors.

Background

Spoiler

Jack was born into a rich family, his powers forming rather early in his childhood. Due to this, and him being considered a prodigy by everyone around him, he became very spoiled. Despite this, however, he never became a bully - much to the contrary, he defended many school yard kids from other bullies. At first it was because of all the positive attention doing this gave him, but it eventually grew into a sense of duty to protect those that can't protect the weak. During young adulthood, he heard all of the legends behind Saitama and his power, and decided that he too would become a powerful hero just like him, forever protecting the weak from evil.

Class: High Ranked B

Make it Rain

o4crIbL.gif

"Raincoat? Check. Cell phone? Check. Supernatural weather powers from an interdimensional storm monster? Check. Okay. Let's go save the day!"

Name: Sora Aoyama
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Class: C

Appearance:

dzQBQUf.jpg

Sora is on the smaller side, standing at only 5'4" and weighing 126 pounds. Atop her head rests long, smooth, black hair, contrasted by piercing yellow eyes. Her facial expressions can often look more stern or serious than Sora actually is, which can give off the wrong impression about her to others. Fashion-wise, as a hero who creates storms, Sora is never seen without the yellow raincoat and black rubber boots seen above. Beneath the raincoat is rather typical attire for a young woman. Those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Sora without her raincoat on may get a peek at a distinct marking on her left bicep. This marking is embedded into her skin like a burn scar, and is in the shape of a cloud with a snake coiled around it.

Personality:

Even before becoming a hero, Sora had always been highly vocal on the belief that people gifted with some great ability should use it to aid those who don't in any way possible. As a direct result of this belief, villains who misuse their gifts drive her straight up the wall, and should she capture one, they'll likely be in for quite the lecture on morality, power, and more. Likewise, heroes have always been her... well, her heroes. They're a special type of people she looks up to in awe, and the fact that she's now one herself is still sinking in. Ever since joining the Hero Association, she's done her utmost to work up to the standards she holds other heroes to, even if it means running herself ragged or getting in over her head. While she admires the idea of being a hero for fun, and she certainly does enjoy her job, it's still a career, so she takes it pretty seriously.

Powers:

Stormbringer: Sora has been gifted with power over storms, though she's still getting trying to get a feel for what exactly she's capable of. This power over storms grants her the below abilities, and this list may be updated over the course of the RP.

Storm Generation: The ability to create storms. As of the start of the RP, the best Sora can manage is a simple thunderstorm just big enough to fill in a sports stadium. Because this involves changing the weather, it's not something she can do instantly.

Hydromancy: The ability to manipulate water. While she's also capable of creating water, she can only do this under a storm cloud; otherwise she'll need pre-existing water to work with.

Waterwalking:The ability to walk on water without sinking. Only works if it's raining, but can be extended to anyone Sora makes skin contact with.

Wind Immunity: Although it has very few practical uses, Sora can't be moved by wind, no matter how strong it may be. Much like her ability to walk on water, this attribute also extends to a person or object Sora makes skin contact with.

Background:

Sora always wanted to be a hero, but didn't have much in the way of actually going about it. That all changed when, not too long ago, something came into contact with this world, and her specifically. Something from beyond this world, cruising through the cosmos as an interdimensional monster of stormy weather. It came to Sora one wet and windy day with an offer. Be given the power of the storm, and in exchange, simply use it, to keep this "Storm Lord" from running out of energy. Sora accepted.

By this point, the Hero Association had already started taking in hometown heroes, so as one could imagine, Sora was rather new to the job. Witnessing firsthand the deeds of the Caped Baldy, whose power was clearly far beyond his class, only invigorated her further to hone her impressive power and climb the ranks.

Character Name: Artemis Francheska Ravenhart
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Appearance: Artemis wears a black, undesigned t-shirt with a small, black leather jacket. She stands around 5'7" and walks normally, usually with her hands in her jean pockets. She also wears black jeans and tennis shoes. She has black hair, violet eyes, and pale skin. She is skinny, with some muscle. Lastly, she wears black, leather, and fingerless gloves with violet X's on the palms(for show). She has a violet X on her leather jacket, just below her left shoulder.

Personality: She is a quiet girl casually, though she does talk occasionally if she is talked to by someone. Otherwise, she usually does not enter a conversation on her own. When in battle, she usually stays quiet and defends the civilians first before going on the offensive. When on the offensive, she will a bit more talkative, usually saying slurs or making fun of the monster, getting it to attack more and defend less. She could care less about the money, instead of enjoying helping whoever she can. She does not attack unless another hero is with her, which she still mostly plays defensive, though shielding the hero instead of herself.

Powers: She is able to make small shields that extend from the palm of her hands. These shields are not limited to size, however, larger sizes lower the durability of the shield. A small, round shield can take about as much thirty trucks running into it, while a large wall about the size of a one-story wall can take two-thirds that. The shields can also take shape if she wished, however, it takes longer for these to open fully depending on the complexity or size. The small shield can open at around half a second. Typically she creates a small shield(radius of about a foot) for personal defense and usually forms a sword of her design for an offense, though she does not engage in combat unless she isn't alone. She is about as strong as a normal person and has the agility of a trained free runner. The shields appear as a translucent purple glass. If her shield were to break from an attack, the attack will be blocked, but she goes unconscious when that happens. The shield would deflect the attack away, except when it breaks, in which it absorbs the attack. The sword is about as strong as a regular sword, though she isn't very strong so it can only cut what any sword could.

Class: B-Class

Background: Artemis was born and had a happy life from her childhood. In her teenage years, she discovered her powers. She became somewhat gothic, yet maintaining school grades and such. After graduating high school, she got a job as a cashier at a convenience store. She didn't really care and made as best of a living as she could. She saw Mumen Rider attempt to stop a crime on TV and decided to apply for the heroes association to make a living. After being accepted, she quit her job to join.

Ability Type: Mind
Stamina: 5
Intelligence: 7
Justice: 4
Endurance: 8

Popularity: 6
Effectiveness: 6

I'm interested in applying again, but have some ideas for new characters. On one hand, I like the idea of a hero who models himself as a fusion of Samurai and Gunslinger, wielding such nightmares as a fusion katana-revolver in battle and speaking in a confusing mix of Japanese and American slang.

On the other hand, I want to play Dr. Kurokage as a mad scientist who uses dark science bordering on mysticism, summoning chaotic energies to give monstrous form to things around him and create giant familiars that fight for him.

Both ideas sound great! You can go ahead and make whichever you feel better with.

The Doctor Is In

Spoiler

"Don't worry! I'm a professional! KuhuhuhuHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Character Name: Dr(?) Murata Kurokage
Age: 24
Sex: Male
Appearance: Dr(?) Kurokage is a man in his mid-twenties, standing at 5'11" (on his drivers license) and of a healthy, but lean and unathletic build. His hair is long and dark, and hangs behind him in a messy ponytail that runs to his back. His forearms are tattooed with higher-order mathematical symbols and equations, resembling the markings of the occult. His eyes, grey and often hyper focused, are typically concealed behind a pair of circular glasses that refuse to stop reflecting light off of them. In the lab and the field, Kurokage wears a lab-coat splattered with a variety of ominous black and and neon pink stains, and round goggles that protect his eyes from flying debris and bright lights. Underneath, he favors a warm, black cable-knit sweater and comfortable jeans.

Personality: Dr(?) Kurokage is remarkably pleasant most of the time. In his downtime, he enjoys casual dining, good tea, and playing retro video games. He's friendly, though his smile's a bit creepy, and enjoys talking to new people and getting new insight on the state of the hero industry. In the field however, he puts the mad in mad scientist: His maniacal laugh is evil-sounding enough to convince unfamiliar heroes and villains that he's actually a bad guy, resulting in more than one case of mistaken alignment, and several cases of unintended assault. Nonetheless he takes his work as a hero very seriously, and typically engages enemies that are likely to cause lots of property damage to avoid causing too much himself. He also has a deep attachment to his Akuma, in part because he spends so much time crafting and teaching them. He'll often use endearments when speaking to them, and that habit spills over into his everyday speech. "Darling" is an ironically common epithet.

Powers: Dr(?) Kurokage's dark sciences have unlocked to him the creation of grand beasts of burden to fight on his behalf. By way of corporeal shadow and his higher-order math equation, he can create monstrous constructs, dubbed "Akuma." These "demons" appear organic and move like living, breathing creatures, but are made of a material far tougher than mere flesh. Their size, shape, and resemblance are inconsistent across the individual creatures, but they share the color scheme of black skin and a neon pink glow at the ends of spikes, claws, horns and other appendages, as well as distinct dermal markings that often resemble hearts. As well as this, they can be summoned to and banished from his side using the series of particular symbols which Dr(?) Kurokage has tattooed on his arms.

When creating an Akuma, time is a necessity: An Akuma of any strength or consequence takes weeks to make, as much as a month depending, and Dr(?) Kurokage likes to be thorough when creating a new Akuma. He requires the use of his [REDACTED] Machine, which is admittedly rather sinister in its appearance. Furthermore, once it's created, an Akuma must learn to obey Dr(?) Kurokage's commands. They recognize their creator, understand him, and can be taught to speak in rare cases, but each comes with the approximate intelligence of a five year-old child and a unique personality, and must be 'broken in' before he can risk taking them out in the field. Once they demonstrate obedience, you have a proper Akuma ready for combat. As of yet, Dr(?) Kurokage has two Akuma that are cleared for action, and one which is not. (Akuma designs to come in PM)

Class C

Background: Murata Kurokage was always a bright, driven young mind who wanted to create something grand that the word would look up at and be in awe at. But mere scientific achievement wouldn't be enough: no, he needed to create something tangible. Something of substance that would shake the very earth! Slowly, he became obsessed with the idea, and he soon began pursuing knowledge far beyond his years, dedicating all the time he could to his research. Consumed by his work, he inevitably emerged victorious, with the his grand beasts of burden, and hell-bent on... protecting the innocent? Murata's mad scientist aesthetic and questionable personality make it a bit tricky to garner popularity, so while he'll follow Saitama's example and try to be a hero for its own sake, he will have trouble making clear that he is truly a good guy, and thus his ranking will continue to suffer until he proves himself. Whether he does this intentionally or not, I'd like for him to work his way up to being seen as an eccentric, but well-meaning hero who does, genuinely, fight for the good of mankind.

That's relatable: If I could draw, I'd absolutely make a picture of Kurokage.

It, like every night, was dark. However it wasn't stormy. Instead it was cold and somewhat clammy. The time was 10 PM and, unlike some larger cities, the streets were mostly barren. The moon in the sky, and the streetlights on the ground, made the dark night possible to traverse without being blind.
They, in this case being Brian James Trantor and Carmen O'Conner, had gotten a message not long ago. It was from their mysterious savior/employer, Shiki. This was unusual, the first of several unusual moments, as the girl hardly ever used text messages to contact them. Though it was only a couple words, "Dagen Park" which was why they both had made their way towards said park.
Park might be something of an exaggeration. it was rather large, it would only take a couple minutes to cross it, and only had a singular bench, under an old gazebo, to sit in. Some trees were scattered around, mostly around the edge to the left facing from the street, but not many and only one or two that were truly large. A playground sat in the center of the small grassy field which consisted of a couple slides, monkey bars, and a bit of a distance from that a pair of seesaws and a swing set that creaked with the slight breeze. Off to the side of said playground, at the right edge of the park, was a concrete area for parking. And there sat a singular vehicle.
They each would recognize it as belonging to Shiki. A large van, practically a camper, that looked like it shouldn't be able to run. Yet they knew it did. Usually, yet another unusual thing tonight, this van was parked outside of their houses, or wherever they happened to be when Shiki wanted to contact them, and they'd use it to get to whatever Shiki needed them to do.
However this time it was in another location. The reason why was clear to them soon.
The third unusual thing of the night. Whenever they found said van they were the only ones who ever paid it any mind. However today there was another. For Brian this was Carmen. And for Carmen this was Brian.
Without any warning it seemed that Shiki had decided that the two of them would meet tonight. In this park. On this cold and clammy night.

      TUESDAY NOVEMBER 01
      180 DAYS REMAIN
“This is an imaginary story… Aren’t they all?”
-Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? (written by Alan Moore)
      Do All Words Can Do
      “Fuck!”
The events of the last few hours had taken their toll on Director Sekelsky. The reports of rioting were finally dying down, people were returning to their homes, and heroes were permitted to stand down, but that just meant it was time for the casualty numbers. Multiple people had been trampled in the initial panic, and several more were injured in what ensued afterward, including one of their own, a cape who went by the name of Spotlight. It was worth another few expletives. “Fucking goddamn piece of horseshit! Cass goes off the grid for who knows how long and then decides to pull this fucking stunt. Did they know? They must have known. Surely they realized what would happen next, right? So they just left everyone else to clean up their mess, huh?”
There were four other people in the room, and each of them was in costume, so Director Sekelsky mentally adopted the standard name protocols. Cape names when dressed as capes. Easy. At the opposite end of the sweatbox of a meeting room (how could it be this fucking hot in here in fucking November?) were Override, Ember, and Aeon. They were the main recipients of this briefing, chosen for a number of reasons but there was really one big one: availability. None of them had been at Hallowmas or taken the holiday standby shift (and who could blame them? It was Halloween. Even Director Sekelsky had hoped to spend the night with his husband and daughter until whatever this shit was), which meant they were actually around this morning. The fact they all had some sort of criminal record was concerning but not work scrapping and waiting for someone else.
Bard was there too, seated alone on the near end of the sweatbox next to the projection screen. His costume was positively ancient, and his mask one of those tacky theater masks that only covered half of his face, but he refused to change it, always citing more pressing issues of the time. The Director couldn’t fault him for that this time. He was taking this even harder than Director Sekelksy was; he had a pair of white-knuckled fists pushed as far into the table as he could manage, and he was shaking and muttering something under his breath. It was probably something to do with his Thinker powers, Director Sekelsky thought. It wasn't something he understood, but Bard had also been instrumental in G3’s response the last few hours and he’d been a wreck then too. As long as he was functional and managed to check in with one of G3’s counselors later, he’d be alright, right?
He sighed. Thinking things through like this helped get the anger out of his system. The only emotion that remained now was a quiet determination. From an egotistical point of view, it was his best feature. He didn’t have any superpowers, but he wasn’t powerless. “First thing’s first, where’s DEUS?”
“Helping with the riots,” Bard said. He eased up a little too now that the meeting had started. “He was spotted in Graceland a little before midnight so he actually wasn’t too far away when it started.”
      “For once,” Director Sekelsky said.
      “For once.”
“But that means don’t count on it happening again. Not that we should ever count on him.”
“Especially now that it’s daytime,” Bard said. “He’ll probably be too busy rescuing cats from trees or helping old women cross the street.”
“Or rescuing old women from trees,” the Director snarked. “So Plan A, then. Alright.” Bard handed him a trio of folders and he turned his attention to the three capes in the back. One for each of them.
“As you are no doubt aware, the Renegade Cape Cassandra predicted the end of the world at Hallowmas last night,” he said. “This is so obviously S-Class, it’s practically the definition of the term. Unfortunately, the actual words on the truces don’t agree here. They were written more for singular, concrete threats. A tornado, some supervillain who’s gotten too big for their britches, a bio-Tinker’s experiment run amok. Not something as nebulous and off in the distance as this. If we try to litigate this through the normal channels, that’s precious time lost we could have spent dealing with whatever the fuck this actually is, so we’re hoping to avoid that.”
He tossed the folders down the table, one at a time. Landing them neatly at the edge right in front of his target without anything spilling out was something that had taken countless briefings just like these to perfect, but it was worth it every time. “We do have some language in our favor, however. We just need the leaders of each of the three main gangs to agree with us, and sign a document saying as much. You three will be facilitating that.”
“In those folders are our profiles on the three gangs and the leaders,” Bard said, standing up as well. “Gibbons’ Caesar” -- he pronounced it “ˈsi zər” -- “The Zodiac’s Ophiuchus, and, of course, the Moray Clan’s three Fates. Most of it’s common knowledge, but make sure you’re up to date on it. It also has my best guesses as to how the negotiations are going to play out. Unfortunately, it is probably going to be a negotiation. Six months is a lot of time for Scarlet City’s underworld to play nice.”
“We’re going to have to play nice in return,” Director Sekelsky said. “We were the ones with the most cape activity last night. Again, the extenuating circumstances favor us, and obviously so, but they’ll be looking for any concession they can get. Also included in those folders is a copy of a temporary S-Class agreement. It won’t last until April, but it’s something we can use when the Peacekeepers get their act together, so as long as you don’t do anything stupid like make a legally binding agreement without our negotiators present -”
“Or start a fight,” Bard said.
“- or start a fight, we’re giving you a lot of leeway on this. We need those signatures, you understand? The meetings are already set up. Catty Key buzzed everyone earlier, so be sure to thank her when you get the chance. Your first meeting is with the Fates in Echo Park, the other places and times are in there as well.”
His eyes met Ember’s “Ember, you’re not going to that last one as per our existing agreement regarding Gibbons, report back here after The Zodiac meeting instead for a different assignment.”
The last moment lingered a bit longer than Director Sekelsky intended, which mattered in the face of all the time pressure, but was still recoverable. “You have a few minutes to finish your reading, ask any questions, you might have, and then get going. Leave through the back while the sixes don’t have the building completely surrounded yet.”
      Hidden World
Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos Lanthimos, the Moray Clan’s three Fates, arranged themselves in various positions about their lair’s (for lack of a better word) throne room searching for something that might fit the correct vibe. It was the new costumes that were the problem here. They’d just gotten three matching dresses from Rajawongse made out of Clotho’s fibers -- and they were the kind of dresses that came with pockets! -- but the room had been put together with their old aesthetic in mind. They’d started out so stereotypical, even getting one of those prop replica thrones from that one show, but the dresses were some kind of postmodern art. They had a flow to them that looked especially nice when they all stood together and the blotches of color started to blur. It was a total clash. The only pieces of fabric left from their old costumes were their blindfolds.
“Blindfolds” was another one of those words that was technically true but not really. They were a solid black, but The Fates could all see through them just fine. Part of the magic of Clotho’s string was that its properties could be whatever she wanted it to be. That was one of the reasons Rajawongse had been so inspired in the first place -- a practically infinite amount of new materials, right there at his fingertips, who wouldn’t? But phrasing it that way would also sell the Renegade clothier short. He was a master of his craft even without his power. Rajawongse had created dresses that were identical down to the tiniest stitch. With them, the only way to identify which Fate was which was their distinctive manner of speech.
“Maybe it’s the room that needs to change, not us,” Clotho said.
      “Sure,” Lachesis said.
“But that doesn’t change the fact we need to figure out what we’re doing right now,” Atropos said. She was also identifiable by the butterfly knife she carried with her, a helpful outlet for not just her power, but idle hands in general. The swish-clack sound of its handles seemed to punctuate everything that particular Fate said, and frequently some of her sisters’.
They settled on one of their standard formations -- Lachesis lounging on the throne flanked on either by her two sisters -- just as three of their underlings entered the room. Vi, Sibyl, and Demiurge were their names. The Fates gave them some time to get situated and even offered them some fruit in case they hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. It was still early in the morning, after all. It also gave them an excuse to get everyone up to speed on the previous night's events, the prophecy, the riots, everything.
“The Stadium isn’t our territory, though it’s close enough that it might as well be,” Lachesis said.
“And we’re going to have to deal with the smashed windows that are in our territory. Some of our people are already on it.”
“It won’t be finished until later, though. Right now, G3 --”
“-- The Generic Good Guys --”
“-- The Group of Giant Goobers --”
“-- is going to be pushing us for some kind of temporary truce until they can get their act together, and we don’t have any reason not to accept.”
“But we also have reason to believe the Gibbons aren’t going to take the deal,” Lachesis said. “There are a couple of reasons for that. The first is that, like, it’s Gibbons. There’s no way Caesar” -- she pronounced it “ˈsi zər” -- “is going to let a land grab opportunity slip through his fingers, no matter how bad of an opportunity it is.”
“That’s what happens when most of your territory is crap,” Atropos said. Swish. Clack. “Even when you have the most of any gang in all of Skitty.”
“So it’s in character for him,” Clotho said. “But perhaps more damningly, he laid out his plans this morning while Worm still had one of his walls bugged, and later we hear some Gibbons capes are on the way to our territory. So we just- we know it’s going to happen. ”
“Sorry to bury the lede like that.”
“Our people cleaning up Nola Street already know this,” Clotho said. “There are some pretty hefty capes helping out there, both ours and otherwise, and DEUS is still in the area for at least a little bit longer.”
“We’ll fight too if we goddamn have to.” The swish-clack of Atropos’ knife was especially forceful that time.
“The point is, there’s a little time before anything goes down. There are still a few preparations to make, though. More thorough battle plans, making sure complementary powers are together, that sort of thing. Your job this morning is to keep Caesar distracted, and the way we’d like you to do it is to wreck some of his shit first.”
“The target is a warehouse eleven point five nine kilometers that way.” Lachesis pointed in a direction she knew to be Northeast. This was her showing off her Thinker power and she relished the opportunity. “Pretty close to The Shimmer without getting up and personal with it, about as far as possible away from what’s going to be happening here.”
“We think it’s a lab for a Tinker on Caesar’s payroll, which means it’ll have a skeleton crew of just that one Tinker and an assistant or two.”
“The point is to get them calling for help. We’re not killing them or anything. Just roughing them up a bit to get Caesar’s attention, you know?” Clotho winked. “Of course, if they do go running to the hills leaving a trove of Tinker tech behind, you might as well take any of the interesting shit, right?”
“At the same time,” Lachesis was quick to add, “if help does show up, that’s your cue to get out of there. Remember The Stanley Principle. You’re not invincible no matter how far ahead you might seem.”
The Fates finally went silent as the invocation of that nearly-sacred rule brought a little extra weight to the proceedings. Both Clotho and Atropos shifted uncomfortably where they stood, and Lachesis had to stop lounging and actually sit in her chair. “Oh, that was a lot, wasn’t it?” Clotho eventually said. “Sorry about that.”
“Anyway, the actual meat and potatoes planning of this mission, that’s up to you,” Atropos said.
“We’ve given you the place and the goal, kinda want to just see what you come up with,” Lachesis said. “Call it a test, you know? Show us what you can do.”

They came to you in a dream.
“Go!” they ordered. “Board the Swallow Tail
      And fly west.”
Decided to host something of my own. I’ve been on this site long enough that it was bound to happen eventually. This is a fantasy journey RP with a hint of mystery to it. Part of a watchdog's duty, after all, is getting to the root of an area’s problem and flushing it out, and that requires some investigation. Or you could just call upon your patron to smite the place. After all, there can’t be a problem with the town if there’s no town to begin with.
I was thinkinking three to five players, though I suppose that depends on the level of interest. Feel free to ask me any other questions you might have, and I hope you enjoy!
