The year is 2023. In this future, magic is slowly fading from this world, almost completely drained dry from the Earth. Heroes are almost forgotten, believed only to be children’s stories or things of legend, nothing that the modern world needs.

In a desperate attempt to jump start the world’s magic again, three powerful Mage Families, the Mercurys, the Argus, and the Edgeworths have decided to replicate the Fuyuki City Holy Grail War in an American town: Exfield. To that end, they have gathered the best of the best mages to participate in the war, a war with the greatest prize of all…

The Holy Grail, and one wish.

Foreword

Spoiler

Well, here it is, my first RP where it wasn't made in response to the death of an RP or to a poll. I want this to be the very best rp it can be, but I'm also doing two other rps at the moment. My solution? We're keeping this RP small. I'm going to accept a maximum of six people (not including me and Skaia) and will not bend on this for any reason. Applicants can either make a servant or a master, but you will only get one app in this RP.

Rules

Spoiler

First and foremost, all NCM and RP section rules apply. That means no powerplaying, godmodding, etc. You know, obvious things that you should not do because you’re a decent human being.

I, and by extension, any and all cohosts, have final say. I am the law. However, I can be lenient if you are calm and explain yourself well. If you do not post within several days f when you are needed to post, I reserve the right to move your character. If you do not post for two weeks, then I reserve the right to write out your character. However, I can extend the timeline if you have a valid re ason, but you have to tell me.

This is PG-16 to allow all kind of things to happen. Death happens, bad things happen, good things happen, stuff happens. Circle of Life, Circle of Deat h.

Setting

Spoiler

This RP takes place in a slightly alternative universe the original Fate/Stay Night Universe. Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night have both happened, Fate/Stay Night going down one of the Unlimited Blade Works endings. (Look guys, the OG route is alright, but Riiiiiin and also Heaven’s Feel isn’t the best ending to go off of)

The War itself will be fought in the fictional town of Exfield, California.

Organizations

Spoiler

Mage's Association

Spoiler

An international, self-preservative and self-defense organization formed by practitioners of magecraft for the purpose of controlling, concealing, and developing magecraft. It has many laboratories and research bodies that seek to advance the progress of Magic, as well as institutions that transmit their secrets to the next generation.

Although the emphasis lies on the pursuit of knowledge, the Association also seeks to increase its own military strength and reserves the use of force to protect itself from entities that threaten its existence, such as the Holy Church, other mage organizations, supernatural forces seeking to punish mankind for meddling with areas that should not be touched, and individuals who hunt that which they consider taboo.

The Association has set up research institutions and established and enforces laws that forbid the criminal use of magecraft in order to promote the development of magecraft. The Association is mainly concerned with the preservation and concealment of Magecraft in criminal aspects. They do not care about hideous crimes committed by Magi so long as they are not a threat that might reveal the existence of Magecraft to the common public.

The Main Branch, which is in the British Museum, is called Clock Tower.

The Church

Spoiler

The Holy Church is a powerful faction in the world. Currently, it appears to coexist peacefully with the Mage's Association, though this has not always been the case. They act as an arbitrary power and neutral party in the Mage Association's internal disputes like the Holy Grail Wars.

Important People

Spoiler

Caren Hortensia

Spoiler

The daughter of the Fuyuki Holy Grail War’s officiator, Kirei Kotomine. She has volunteered to be the officiator of the Exfield Holy Grail War, mostly to help fulfil her duties to the church. She has the ability to detect demons by way of her body mimicking the effects the demon has on its host.

Waver Velvet

Spoiler

Waver, also known as Lord El-Melloi II, is a professor at the Clock Tower. He is very well known as a very good professor, his lessons having a practicality to them most teachers do not have. He has a knack for helping students develop their magic to heights they never imagined, even if he is only an average magus at best. All this has made him very popular at the school.

He is noted to be completely against the Exfield Holy Grail War, perhaps due to his involvement as a Master in the Fourth Fuyuki Holy Grail War.

(Please note if you want to have him as your teacher. That might give you connections to other masters due to having the same teacher)

Terms

Spoiler

The Holy Grail

Spoiler

The Holy Grail is a device initially constructed by the three families with the intention of granting them insight into the nature of the afterlife. It was something of an accident by which it gained its innate ability to grant the wishes of whoever came to hold it at the end, and upon discovery of this the representatives of the three great families fought the first Holy Grail War to see who could claim it and the knowledge and power it would bestow. Four other mages were wrapped up in it, and the first war resulted in the deaths of all involved. And so, the tradition of Murder, Death, Kill (aka the Holy Grail War) came into fruition.

Servants

Spoiler

The spirits of legendary figures from the past, called forth by the Holy Grail and bound to a particular Master through the summoning ritual. Also known as Heroic Spirits, (despite the presence of obvious villainous characters), they are super-humanly powerful beings brought only to battle. The Holy Grail also grants these beings knowledge of the modern era, so that they are able to blend in alongside their masters if necessary.

They are summoned into 7 classes: Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker.

Command Seals

Spoiler

You gain these upon summoning your Servant. These tattoo-like seals are a representation of the bond between both master and servant; you have a total of three seals emblazoned on your hand. You can use one seal to force your servant to do something - against their will if need be. When you use your third command seal, the bond between master and servant is broken after completion of your ordered act, and your servant will disappear.

Noble Phantasms

Spoiler

A Noble Phantasm is the very symbol of a hero’s existence. It is a trump card, often taking the form of artifacts or abilities that are integral to the Servant's legend and their classification as a particular class. A swordsman might have a legendary sword or technique as their Noble Phantasm, while a public speaker might have the ability to convince someone they are right. Usually, a hero only has one, although there are people known to have two or even three.

Skills

Spoiler

Abilities that heroes have that aren’t as integral to their legends, things like hiding their presence, or riding horses. These are graded on a letter system, D being the lowest, and A being the highest. EX also exists… but this is for strange exceptions the normal letters can not cover.

Magecraft

Spoiler

In the simplest terms, Magecraft is magic that could be replicated by science, for example, using magecraft, one could light a building on fire, but one could also do that with a match and gasoline. Still, the effects of magecraft can be far more devastating for far less effort.

True Magic

Spoiler

True Magic is magic that science can not replicate. What qualifies as True Magic varies from era to era, for example, flying used to be considered a True Magic. In the time of 2023, there are only 5 known True Magics.

And no, your characters can’t have them, don’t even ask.

Magic Circuits

Spoiler

These are the pathways within a mage's body through which mana flows, allowing them to perform magic by way of drawing it outwards into the world. These are partly supernatural and partly physical, being closely linked to the nervous and circulatory systems of the human body. As such, damage to them can often be crippling. The average magus has 20 circuits. For reference, Shiro from Fate/Stay Night was stated to have 27 and Rin was stated to have 40.

NPC Masters

Mage of the Bow

Spoiler

Name: Arash Ahmadi
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Physical Description

Spoiler

zpYenH2.jpg

Personality

Spoiler

He is a cheerful person, ready to listen to anyone. He likes to encourage people, like how he was by his own teacher. He is a very honest person, the kind of person who would get betrayed instead of betraying. He also has a habit of saying whatever pops into his head, making for a few awkward situations.

He holds El-Melloi II in high regards, and insulting his teacher is one of the few triggers he has. He will fight for his teacher’s honor, and will obey almost any order given to him by his teacher. He wants to be useful to him, and so does his best to be so.

Biography

Spoiler

Arash is actually a descendant of the legendary Arash, although this is unknown to him and to his family. His family has always been elemental based mages, but Arash was never good with it. Knowing he did have magical aptitude, his family sent him to Clock Tower, where he met a much older Waver, aka Lord El-Melloi II, who began to teach him Magecraft on a level he never knew. As thus, he learned about his Bow magic, and began to refine it.

When the three families announced their intent to use a Holy Grail War to restore magic, Waver was understandably against it, but in the end, the plan went into fruition. Against his teacher’s wishes and without his knowledge, Arash entered himself into the war. He is firmly believing in the “Better to ask forgiveness than permission” approach to this situation, and is trying to keep an eye on the war for his teacher, and make sure no funny business goes down.

Magic

Spoiler

He is super handy with a bow, and able to create magic arrows that he can fire. He also has the ability to summon a bunch of bows which can be fired with his magic. Think Bow Shiro, but not Archer… a Shiro that summons bows. His main bow is a normal black bow, but in emergencies or when he needs to go all out, he has a crimson bow… one that seems to still be magical...

The Mage of Revenge

Spoiler

Name: Akira Hortensia
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Physical Description

Spoiler

s6NhWgc.png

Personality

Spoiler

Akira is a serious and quiet man. It’s obvious he doesn’t actually care about the war itself, instead having some other goal in mind, that goal being the death of Ciel Argus. He’ll do anything for that, even go against the orders of the Church and participate in the game proper.

He’s observant, doing his best to pinpoint weaknesses and exploit them. The only thing he won’t do is involve people outside of the Holy Grail War, although this isn’t due to some sort of honor, but instead that he doesn’t want to get in trouble. He doesn’t like staying behind his servant and is willing to throw down if he needs to. Of course, he’s not a match for a servant persay, but the element of surprise is always a good thing.

Biography

Spoiler

Akira Hortensia was born as Adam Argus, the oldest son of the Argus family. He was born with average magical circuits, average magic power. He wasn’t anything too special, but he always believed his family loved him, and he would become heir of the family’s secrets.

He was wrong.

When he was six, his little sister, Ciel Argus was born, and with exceptional magic circuits and seemingly a prodigy in magic. The family, only able to pass their magic and crest to one child, decided to gamble and bet it all on their newborn daughter, giving Adam away to the Church, and erasing all evidence of his existence in their family, all to make sure that their new heir would be able to focus on being the best magus she could be, without a scorned older brother hovering over her in life.

Adam was soon adopted by Caren Hortensia, who raised him and taught him new magic. Not only that, but due to being a part of the church, he was taught Bajiquan. Combining both his magic and Bajiquan allowed him to enter the Executors at the age of 13.

For the longest time, he worked hard, toiled, and fought for his life more times than he could count. The memories of his old life would cause him pain, but he thought there was nothing he could do about it. That all changed when he heard of the Holy Grail War. He learned that Ciel Argus would be participating, and against the advice of everyone, joined the War. He now wants to kill Ciel Argus, ruining his old family’s legacy, and destroy the very house with his own two hands.

Magic

Spoiler

Is skilled in Bajiquan, and uses reinforcement Magic to make his body much tougher than a normal human’s.

Physical Description

Spoiler

Personality

Spoiler

She is a confident woman, and very intelligent. She hates to admit she's wrong, denying any possibility she could be. She has the mind of a magus, not caring about the people around her, only for results.

She is not above making alliances if it benefits her, but she also would stab someone in the back in the same breath. She is utterly determined to win this war.

Biography

Spoiler

Ciel was raised as an only child in the Argus family, and raised to be the heir of the entire family. She spent her entire life studying and loved every second of it.

Every once in awhile, she'd find some strange record of an "Adam Argus" but decided not to pursue it, as it didn't matter to her.

She worked hard, studied hard, and soon became a top student in the Clock Tower, being hailed as a genius of magecraft. It was only natural for her to be chosen as a candidate for the Holy Grail War. She wishes to win it to gain her family honor and glory, and to get even closer to the Root.

She's also very stubborn, very rarely willing to change her mind about a decision unless she greatly respects that person.

A Weapon to Surpass Metal Gear

Spoiler

UAfnQea.png

Name: Misaki Shirai
Age: 21
Gender: Female

Physical Description:

Spoiler

WZsCbla.png
(art by Ball&Khay)

Height: 5'8"
Weight: 134 pounds

Personality:

Spoiler

If the meek are truly meant to inherit the earth, Misaki is destined for nothing short of world domination. Although not a coward, Misaki simply lacks any backbone to speak of. Much of her upbringing was run on the basis of "be quiet and do as you're told," so submissively obeying everyone around her has since become nature to the red-clad magus. She's never really been one to step out of line, act out, or even put up any form of opposition to her fate as the Shirai family's "super-weapon." Even down to her manner of speech - riddled with passive apologies and half-hearted requests instead of orders - Misaki is the perfect doormat of a human being. Between her crippling lack of confidence, painfully passive demeanor, and chronic starvation for affection and appreciation, it's safe to say that Misaki tends to be wound up pretty tight.

So how does she deal with it? Why, she doesn't have to, of course! After all, the best way to get everything off her chest would be to talk to others about it, and with Misaki's lackluster-at-best social skills, that's just wishful thinking. There's no hobbies that would work either; she wouldn't be any good at them, and she's supposed to be perfecting her craft anyway! These and other sentiments have been fed to Misaki over her life to avoid any chance of her finding something she's passionate about, and made her even more withdrawn simply to avoid the anxiety of dealing with other people. As such, talking with Misaki is tough.

This lack of hobbies isn't for lack of trying, though. Misaki finds the best way to deal with stress is with some good old escapism. Games, anime, manga, all naturally developed into things she'd relish in with her extremely limited free time, simply because delving into amazing fictional worlds helped her forget about the one she's stuck living in, and those were the most easily-accessed forms of media for her. She's also an avid collector, always looking for the final pieces of this set or those rare figurines. These two hobbies are the only times Misaki's been allowed to take control for herself, so she's always looking for time for them. As this also may imply, Misaki - not having been allowed to make decisions in her life - is near-incapable of making them for herself. Following in theme with her obedient and quiet demeanor, she often relies on others to make choices for her.

Biography:

Spoiler

Misaki comes from a family of magi who tend to keep to themselves, not caring for the affairs of other families as long as they're left to their own device. There is, however, an exception. Nobody's sure when it started anymore, but the Shirais and the Mercurys have been in a bitter feud for as long as either family can remember. This has manifested to various extents in various ways, but the important thing is that where one family is, the other is seldom far. This Holy Grail War is no exception. When the Shirai family heard the Mercurys were both arranging and participating in this Holy Grail War, they wasted no time contributing a magus of their own.

From a young age, Misaki has been regarded as a new hope for the otherwise-obscure and failing family. In addition to an obscene amount of magical circuits in her body, she picked up on magics of different elements and types with little effort. By all accounts within the Shirai family, Misaki is "an unstoppable force that will restore the family to its former glory." To keep her interested in the family's own ends, Misaki was groomed more like a weapon to point at their enemies than an actual person. An oppressively close eye was kept on her at all times, draining her of independance, backbone, and any sort of control of her life. The food she ate, magic she learned, even the person she'd love and one day marry, were all chosen for her.

There was only one hitch.

Misaki never asked for any of this. Not to be born with such deep magic reserves, or to be raised as a weapon instead of a person, and especially not to participate in a Holy Grail War. It was all kind of just thrust upon her. But she's already here now, lacking the willpower to oppose her being sent to fight, and there's no going home until she's won it all.

Magic:

Spoiler

Although Misaki's been known to dabble in many forms of magic, she really shines when her magic relates to poison. Creating and firing off toxic liquids, poison clouds, and even conjuring poison weapons and familiars, are all her specialty magics. Misaki has also been noted to use water and earth-based magic for terrain control, as well as flesh-and-bone-themed magic for more immediate effects than poison. Her lack of confidence greatly holds her back, though.

Mirror Mirror

Spoiler

SmCQmTq.png?1

"This is my greatest trial to date. Failure is not an option."

Personal Information

Name: Souta Aozaki (lit. 蒼崎南部, Aozaki Souta)
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Physical Description:

Spoiler

247e557e17ab4d59a5710ee27fde1993.png

Height: 5'7"

Weight: 140 lbs

The above is Souta's general appearance, taking heavy influence on the European style of an outfit, as he feels it fits his personality and style (at least it's according to him). On his left side, namely seen during the evenings in which the times of the Holy Grail War occur, Souta carries a rapier. On his right hand, Souta has his Command Seal for his Servant, however he tends to keep his glove on to hide it.

Personality:

Spoiler

One glance at Souta and one can tell immediately that he's not only a respectable young man, but one who is quite keen on minding his manners around others. While this is true, it's far from who Souta happens to be. He seems to always be wearing a mask, putting on the noble facade that he knows he has be known with. Courteous... Well-mannered... But still, something beyond the mask is there, if you know where to look. It's the true nature Souta has: a cold nature. He grew up knowing not a soul as a friend, thus being alone aside from his Aozaki clan family and his training on becoming a Magus, which aided in molding and forming this cold nature.

While being prepared to become the next head of the Aozaki clan, Souta has hidden this side to him, as it's not what others should see the future head acting. Therefore, he always feels like he's living a lie about who he truly is. This also brings another problem up to him: Souta is always trying to figure out who he truly is. Is the Aozaki clan's hope for redemption? Is he simply Souta Aozaki? Is he the proper fit for the Aozaki clan? Or is he simply a caged bird awaiting to be released? It's something he's always been thinking about, and it's something he's never truly found an answer to. Because of this, there are often sometimes where he second guesses himself in certain situations...and in this world, the second guesses could be deadly.

Due to having things in his life being decided for him, Souta can get quite flustered and upset in regards to being told what to do. Because of how this, he developed a bit of a rebellious side and definitely will do things he wants to do...though, he does still make sure it coincides with what the Aozaki clan needs, shouldering the burden of the clan in each decision he makes.

In the area of combat and his capabilities as a Magus, Souta shows quite the promise. Being able to master his clan's specialized elemental magic, along with adding a few other elements to his repertoire, he does his best to utilize his magic in a manner to have them flow together in a style that will produce the best result. Not only this, but being quite proficient and elegant in swordplay with his rapier, he can both support as well as lead an attack. That said, he does fancy himself a bit of a strategist when it comes to certain aspects of battle.

Biography:

Spoiler

"...everyone is counting on me. ...there can't be any room for error...gods please."

The Aozaki clan, a Magus family that had strong connections with wind magic, this was the family that Souta found himself born in. Truth be known, Souta at first never realized how much weight was put upon his shoulders being born a Magus within this clan...but when he found out, it was almost too much for him to bear. It wasn't necessarily the responsibilities he had to uphold...but a large amount of pride to carry with him from the clan.

Souta, once he came of age, learned that he was extremely lucky to be born the way he was. Normal Aozaki children born into the clan would have to deal with warring siblings to be the next head of the family: he was an only child. Usually, the number of Magic Circuits of Aozaki children decreased with each generation: Souta was gifted with just enough circuits to be above the average. In general, he had to count his lucky stars to be born like this within this clan. Nevertheless, Souta had a responsibility now to uphold the legacy that was the Aozaki clan, along with it's pride that there was hope for their clan with this one. At the same time, however, it seemed that the Aozaki clan had their hands in Souta's life more than normal...to which Souta had everything in his life decided for him.

From a young age, his family did what they could to train Souta in the ways of being a Magus, getting him to master the elemental magic that the Aozaki clan was best at - Wind Magic, as well as getting him acquainted with the concepts of how this world worked. But namely...they taught him about the Holy Grail Wars and the concept it brought. It was something that was always on Souta's mind, even when he left Japan and went to study abroad at the Mage's Association in England. However, when leaving for the association, he couldn't help but feel the pressure of being this position in the Aozaki clan...nevertheless, even with this feeling, Souta put on a brave face and continued onward.

During his time studying at the Mage's Association, Souta began to learn how to work with a magic that actually would benefit from his own Wind Magic: Fire. With this deadly combination, as well as his will to want to end up fighting alongside with his Servant once the Holy Grail Wars began (if they even did again), he seemed like he was quite the fierce competitor. Fierce, but at the same time, elegant due to his time staying with a few individuals he called "friends" (even though they were more or less just labeled associates) at the Mage's Association, which was how his love for European culture began to develop.

Once his studies were done, Souta got word regarding an attempt to replicate the Fuyuki City Holy Grail War. The location: Exfield, California. The prize being the Holy Grail and one wish... Souta already knew his wish: bring the Aozaki clan back on the map, by having the grail bless the family. He'd do this...as the head of the Aozaki clan, this was what he had to do. Even though he has another wish...he has to do this.

Magic:

Spoiler

Wind Magic: A magic that was mastered at a young age, the pride, joy, and specialty of the Aozaki clan. With this style of magic, Souta uses it in order to assist himself and his allies in moving slightly quicker as well as utilizing a Counter Magic in the form of Aero Strike, which uses his rapier to create invisible impacts on desired targets. This style of magic also allows Souta to influence his Fire magic.

Fire Magic: A strong magic that Souta learned during his time at the Mage's Association, to pair well with his Wind magic. With this style of magic, Souta utilizes it in the way it was meant to be used...unbridled destruction that would engulf everything in it's path. Utilized in conjunction with his Wind magic, his flames will become influenced by the Magus.

Reinforcement Magic: While not something Souta does too much, he tends to use this magic to enhance his rapier, as well as increasing the sharpness to it. That's the extent of his usage for this style of magic.

Skills:

Polyglot: During his time under the Mage's Association's institutions, Souta learned how to speak English, French, and Spanish, bringing him up to knowing four languages, including his native Japanese tongue.

Swordsmanship: Not only was Souta taught the ways of the blade in his home country of Japan, but it was improved upon when he went to the Mage's Association in England, where he took up fencing and fancied the elegance of a rapier rather than the style of the katana.

Misc. Information

Souta's Theme | Battle Theme (Alternative)

  • Souta's name means the following: Souta - A Japanese name translating to "a sudden sound of the wind". Aozaki - A Japanese name translating to "Blue Blossom".
  • The choice for Souta's magic, namely his elemental magic, came from the sole purpose of wanting to use fire magic in conjunction to a strong power source via the wind, as wind can influence the rate and intensity of how a flame can spread as well as being caused to move rapidly due to high winds. Needless to say, it's quite the combination.
  • Another thought for Souta's magic, was similar to Shirou Emiya's to where he would be able to conjure up or even create a rapier to use in combat, however, due to him not having Sword as his element and origin, it wouldn't work. Therefore, simply carrying a rapier was decided.
  • During the creation of Souta, starting with his Personality and then Biography, I had created with just staring at the image...I had unbeknownst to me created a character quite similar to another character: another rapier wielder, Weiss Schnee from RWBY.
    • Note: This was completely unintentional, but this type of character is something else I've never had the opportunity to RP as, so perhaps this was a good thing.
  • Before finally deciding on an appearance for Souta, I had two other options to use before settling on the first option for the appearance: Option 2 and Option 3. Not only this, but these differing appearances also had differing styles of the character.
    • Option 2 was going to have Souta actually be something along the lines of Kairi Sisigou from Fate/Apocrypha, as in he would be motorcyclist and somewhat of a loner, just living on his own until the Grail War began and the Aozaki family needed him. With this, he would be carrying around a katana.
    • Option 3 was going to have Souta be a transfer student from Japan who would be taking part in the Grail War to do what he could to make the Aozaki family proud. He would still be carrying around a katana in this scenario.

Servant App:

Spoiler

Servant Class: Saber
Personality:
A calm, and collected man, who occasionally loves to take part in some witty humor.  He thinks himself quite the charmer, but his cocky demeanor gets the better of him most of the time.  Alongside his cockiness, he is quite ignorant when faced with others.  He believes that he knows everything that he already needs to, and if it doesn't concern battle, its worthless information.  He can usually be found, lying around and staring at the clouds.  If one were to disturb him, that individual would receive quite the knuckle rub on the head.  In battle, he has quite the cocky attitude.  The same kind of attitude that destroyed his livelihood in the first place.  He'll usually wait for his opponent to strike the first attack, and he will easily counter it.  Although he owns two swords, he sometimes likes to make combat personal, and will use his fists to do some damage.
