Pokemon: Mind and Soul [OOC / PG / Not Accepting / Co-Hosted by Skaia]

Recommended Posts

At the Beginning

The Korova Region. A more untamed region than most in the world it was always a place of great interest to strong trainers. With its vast wilderness and general lack of contact with the other regions it was perfect for trainers to grow and learn about themselves. However in the recent years it has grown more restless. The Champion had vanished without a trace and a group of criminals, Team Phoenix, have become more active. The Pokemon League decided that they needed a new Champion to help bring peace of mind to the people of the region. Thus they sent out invitations far and wide to try and gather trainers, and bring them to the region free of charge, to take on their Pokemon League challenge.

You are one of a select group who, for one reason or another, decided to come to this land for the great opportunity of becoming the region's new Champion. Some goals may differ but one thing is certain. The trainers who come to Korova are destined to change it forever.

Welcome back, to Pokemon: Mind and Soul.

Rules

Spoiler

1. Site rules apply

2. Limited Acceptance. Besides myself and the co-host there will only ever be 4 applications.

3. Unless you are holding the group up there will be some leniency in posting time but preference is more than once a week if possible.

4. If you fall behind too much without proof that will change your character will be replaced.

5. I will let you know when you can write out a capture, battle, etc without input. If I do not and you aren't sure you can ask but never do so unless there's indication you can.

Premise

Spoiler

Already stated at the start but to summarize...

There will be two groups of trainers, me and two others and skaia and two others, who will travel the land of Korova and earn gym badges, battle evil teams, and uncover a sinister mystery. Both these groups are on the same path but time will be only vaguely utilized in order to let me put either group at any city at the same or different times as needed.

It's basically a typical Pokemon journey. Young trainers, starting with only one Pokemon, going on an adventure together. The setting, and some Pokemon, are entirely custom but other than that it's very similar to the games.

Setting

Spoiler

The Korova region is a vast and varied land which the middle of the land is covered in such deep wilderness that borders and fences are up to keep trainers from wandering too far into it due to risk.

Bitter Breeder

jXqOx2A.jpg
"Your Pokémon really likes you. It must have pretty low standards."

Name: Kanon Suzuki

Gender: Female

Age: 17

Hometown: Fortree City, Hoenn

Appearance:

cwmR0VZ.jpg
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 136 pounds

Commonly wears the blue-green raincoat and thigh-high rubber boots depicted above. Umbrella not included.

Personality:

People tend to not like Kanon. That's entirely her fault; being a rather unpleasant girl, Kanon has a habit of shoving human interaction away, and acts harsh, bitter, and somewhat malicious when dealing with people. She wants nothing to do with others, preferring to be left alone so she can do her own thing. Shitty person though she may be however, Kanon should not be assumed to be a shitty human being. She's the sort of person who would donate millions to charity if she could, but would make sure to do it anonymously so that people won't come to her singing praises about her generosity. She may even compliment people from time to time, but it's rare for her to not immediately follow it up by spinning it in some weird way to make it an insult instead. Cutting out all the bitchiness in Kanon leaves a heart of gold who wants the best for everyone, even if she won't admit it. In the same vein, she'll appreciate being looked out for, but doesn't want people to expect praise for it or to really do it for any reason other than because it would be the right thing to do.

What she lacks in people skills, however, Kanon more than makes up for with her talent in handling Pokémon. While she can be harsh with people, Pokémon are an entirely different story. Although they generally can't speak with words like she can, Kanon could hold a conversation for days with a Pokémon friend, and will devoutly study how to best care for each and every species known to man. As one could expect, she takes the mistreatment of Pokémon very seriously, and she's not afraid to intervene if she thinks one might be in danger. Already being something of a harsh girl, Kanon isn't afraid to tell somebody straight to their face that they're putting Pokémon in danger, then work to get the party in question to stop whatever's endangering them. She'd rather not battle for it though, as although Kanon acknowledges the importance of Pokémon battles - both for the Pokémon and their trainers - she believes such battles should be recreational and/or competitive, and not a means to push one's ideology. The nitty-gritty detailed stuff like that is part of why Kanon generally dislikes human interaction.

As a general rule, Kanon feels more at home the more surrounded by nature she is. She'd rather spend a night camping in the woods than sleeping in a five-star resort, and can get a bit claustrophobic while indoors. She isn't overly fond of caves either, but she can manage just fine as long as she can see an exit. Bat-like Pokémon can easily startle her as well, especially in caves, though calling her outright afraid of them would be wrong; she just needs to get used to them being there is all. Her ideal location is a clearing deep in a forest, where people will leave her alone and where Pokémon live peaceful, happy lives. Because of this fondness for nature, Kanon is best approached when surrounded by it. She might even show somebody a smile, even if it doesn't last for very long before returning to her usual serious expression.

Since Kanon's spent most of her life with relatively low amounts of human interaction, it can be hard for her to pick up on social cues sometimes. This makes her great at telling people things that need to be said without fear of hurting somebody's feelings, and most statements that aren't direct and to-the-point tend to either bounce off her completely or go right over her head. While she can be a bit frail physically, having a rather low threshold for pain, Kanon's mental and emotional strength more than makes up for it. Bearing nerves of steel and an iron will, Kanon is the type of person who will set a goal, then keep getting up to continue toward it no matter how many times life knocks her down.

Kanon's biggest goal in life is to become a world-class breeder.

Biography:

Born in Fortree City, Kanon's was a life rich in Pokémon interaction. Her mother was an adventuring trainer who settled down to raise a child, and her father worked at the nearby weather institute. With both of her parents being active members of Fortree's community, it left Kanon with lots of time to herself and her mother's trusty Houndoom, who despite appearances, was one of the sweetest creatures in town. Mrs. Suzuki's Houndoom always guarded the house and Kanon herself, being as much a part of the family to her as her mother or father. Any Pokémon Kanon was lucky enough to meet was a friend to her, as far as she was concerned, and it wasn't uncommon for her and Houndoom to explore nearby Routes 119 and 120 in search of new friends in the wild. If something was in fact not friendly and meant harm to Kanon, Houndoom had her back, and if Houndoom - in its old age - was ever tired and needed to take a nap, Kanon didn't mind waiting patiently for it to wake up. Kanon spent so much time bonding with Pokémon in the wild that it didn't leave her much time for human interaction, and virtually none outside of her family.

Despite her growing skills at bonding with wild Pokémon, however, Kanon never really met one that felt like a companion she could call her very own. No matter how many times she and Houndoom left Fortree to explore the nearby wilderness, and no matter how many wild Pokémon the two met together, Kanon never managed to meet a Pokémon willing to join her for more than some pleasant interactions before parting ways for a while. She also refused to be just given one as if Pokémon were material possessions of some sort, leaving her mother's Houndoom as "her" only partner for her entire life in Hoenn. Eventually, Kanon's attention was directed beyond Hoenn, toward the Korova Region.

It was a place she hadn't really heard of before. There were surely new types of Pokémon to meet, she figured, and the trip was being paid for by Korova's Pokémon League. It seemed as fitting a start to an adventure as any, and so Kanon packed her things, bound for Korova. She had fully intended to arrive without a Pokémon and catch one once she arrived, but her "plan" was thrown astray during her boat trip. During a storm at sea, Kanon heard something hit her door, likely carried in by the wind or waves. She opened her door to find a Poliwag, somewhat injured, before hurriedly bringing the Pokémon in and shutting the door. Kanon spent most of the remainder of her voyage nursing the Poliwag back to health herself, since she had no Pokéball to store it in for the absolutely more efficient healing machines on-deck, similar to ones seen in Pokémon Centers. Her efforts paid off though, as a few days before arriving at Korova, Poliwag was healthy as could be, and had grown quite attached to its human savior. Even when she tried to return it to the water where it came from, Poliwag stuck by Kanon's side.

With her very first companion of her own in tow, Kanon has set her sights toward the Korova Region, ready to tackle whatever the region has in store for her.

Starting Pokémon:

Pokémon: Poliwag
Name: Bubbles
Gender: Male
Appearance: Looks a little beaten-up due to some small scars and bruises that haven't gone away, but is in much better shape than when Kanon met him
Personality: Bubbles is a timid creature who isn't really one for fighting or meeting new people. However, he's a loyal friend - especially to Kanon - who doesn't mind going a bit out of his comfort zone if he's got someone reliable at his back. Still getting used to Pokéballs, and prefers to spend his time outside of them.
Method of Catching/Length of owning: Encountered and was nursed by Kanon during her boat ride to Korova.

Former Team Skull Grunt

Spoiler

OCO5E4E.png
"Don't tell me what to do, and we'll get along just fine."

Name: Ivan Keave
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Hometown: Po Town (Alola)

Appearance

Spoiler

bsl0wR3.png

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 174.3 lbs

Personality

Spoiler

As far as Ivan is concerned, the world can be a cruel place. Instead of trying to change it, however, he instead makes due with what he has. While this makes him fairly independent, it does lead to a somewhat selfish mentality. His independent mentality tends to put him at odds with authority, taking rules as suggestions rather than regulation. He gets along well enough with people so long as they don't do anything that challenges his freedom.

Behind the tough guy facade is someone who longs to belong somewhere, although he'll never admit it. He doesn't care much about what strangers think of him, being rather distrusting of others at first. When it comes to those that are close to him, however, it's a completely different story. He wants the admiration of his friends and family, and will protect that as much as possible.

Once Ivan sets his mind to something, there is little that can stop him from achieving it; even the rules aren't safe. He tends to act very rashly, especially in the spur of the moment. While this leads to sub-optimal decisions, he is quick on his feet. He tries his hardest to look like he isn't trying, but there are cracks in his cool guy persona. While rare, he can get very flustered or lose his cool in a fit of rage.

Biography

Spoiler

While he considers Po Town his home even after leaving it for his own adventures, he was technically born in Malie City as the middle child of 3. He was raised there for 10 years by his mother; his father leaving home when he was about 6 years old. Since his mother was one of the few professional trainers from Alola, they managed to get by relatively well, although this meant that his mother spent a lot of time not at home. While the family was close, it was hard not to feel like the black sheep of the family, as he was often compared to his older brother, while not being as pampered as his little sister.

Unlike many of the children of Alola, Ivan didn't have much interest in the island challenges. He was definitely into being a Pokemon Trainer, but the other additions to the trials felt... gimmicky to him, and a waste of his time. Why they couldn't just do normal gym battles like the Kantonian ones they imitated, he never understood. When he became 11, however, his mother insisted that he take it. It didn't help that his older brother had passed the trials roughly 4 years ago with flying colors, showing to the world that he was his mother's son. Reluctantly, Ivan decided to take it on. His first Pokemon was a Rockruff that she had gifted him.

Unfortunately, Ivan did not seem to have the same natural talent as his older brother, and struggled on his trials. It didn't help that him and his Rockruff couldn't get along at all, as the small pupper would constantly disobey him. It didn't take long for him to get frustrated with the whole experience and, in a fit of rage, stormed off to find a place for him to clear his mind. While storming off, he was ambushed by a few Team Skull grunts. They tried to steal his Rockruff away from him and, to the grunt's surprise, Ivan practically gave it to them in a fit of rage, letting loose pent up frustration.

Instead of taking his Pokemon, however, the grunts instead heard his plight and offered to let him join Team Skull. He hesitated at first, but ultimate agreed. He following the two grunts to Po Town, where he saw a lot of kids roughly. They had similar stories of failures, none of them being able to pass the dumb trials the islands set up. He would spend the next couple of years at Po Town, getting to know his fellow grunts. He felt like he finally belonged somewhere. Of course, being part of a group of thugs, he had to do some shady stuff.

At first, it was fairly easy for him to vandalize and rob from the outsiders; as far as his angst said, they had treated him and his new family like trash, and deserved no sympathy. Rockruff was still very disobedient, obviously not pleased to be in its new surroundings. Ivan took a more hands on approach to his thuggery, not engaging in many Pokemon battles. He slowly became the muscle of the group, either carrying things or even fighting off other people. However, he couldn't help but feel a small bit of doubt as the months passed by, feeling tiny seeds of remorse that grew the more crimes he committed.

One day, while picking up some of the berries from the berry pile in front of town, he accidentally woke up a rather young pancham that was sleeping underneath the pile. Naturally, it was agitated by the rude awakening, jumping at Ivan. The two wrestled for a bit before tiring out. As the two leaned against the tree to rest, Ivan offered the Pancham one of the berries he had grabbed. It seemed shocked at first, before quickly grabbing the berry and eating it. Since that day, the Pancham would occasionally show up when it saw Ivan walking about and the two would hang out, taking in the alolan sunshine under the tree while eating some berries. He would vent some of his frustrations and doubts at the pancham, and found himself rather attached to the little guy.

Eventually his feeling of doubt crept up to him as he got older, no longer feeling justified in his life of crime. He was still using his Rockruff, although it was clear that the Pokemon was not comfortable with its new surroundings. It rarely obeyed him and performed poorly, never even evolving. Although Ivan kind of hated the mutt, he couldn't help but feel sorry for it; after all, it did not choose to go with him on this adventure. He stayed with Team Skull a bit longer than he had intended, but he contributed less and less as time passed on. Eventually, despite how hard it was to part with what he considered close friends, he resigned from the group.

As a parting gift, the member of Team Skull gave him a wrist band with the team's insignia imprinted on it. They were sad that he was leaving, some even angry, but the general consensus of the group was that of acceptance. As he was leaving Po Town, however, he saw the Pancham following him as it normally would. Seeing this, an idea struck him. He asked the Pancham if it wanted to join him on his adventure, which it seemed more than eager to do. He made two stops that day, one at a the PokeCenter to get a Pokeball for his true first Pokemon and another at his old home to drop of the Rockruff. He recalled his mother taking about a region called Korova and how they were apparently looking for a new champion or something. It sounded like the perfect place to turn a new leaf.

ADVENTURE!

Spoiler

Name: Jacklyn
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 160 lbs
Hometown: Castelia City, Unova
Appearance

Spoiler

EL7apLO.jpg
Artist: Oweee
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 165 lbs

Personality

Spoiler

Bubbly and full of life, if there was one word to describe Jacklyn it would be "adventure." She is a girl who seems to be a bottomless pit of energy, not seeming to care about what time of day it might be and sleeping entirely because it is necessary. A girl that fears little, Jacklyn isn't afraid to get dirty, literally, and only sees roadblocks and obstacles as necessities to adventure.

When it comes to people Jacklyn is friendly, if not somewhat blunt. While sociable, were something to annoy her she is not very discreet about this, generally both in her facial expressions and how she talks to said person. As most adventures are done with a group, the girl has a fondness for company and enjoys talking with others and is often more interested in hearing other's stories than sharing her own, (though that won't stop her if asked.) While she can be a bit simple minded at times, Jacklyn is still a very prideful and surprisingly serious girl, getting annoyed/frustrated at people that both insult her and don't take adventuring seriously.

Biography

Spoiler

As a child, Jacklyn had always yearned for more than she had. Growing up in Castelia City, Unova, Jacklyn was often times home alone; her parents often working at their cafe and her older sister off on her own adventure. Reading about what her sister had experience, Jacklyn started to grow envious of her, and turned her home city into an adventure in of itself. Wandering the streets of Castelia, Jacklyn found herself finding all sorts of new things about her city she never knew and learning stories from all the random people she met. It wasn't until her sister came home from her journey, sharing her the tales of all she had experienced in Unova, that Jacklyn was truly enamored with the thought of her own worldwide conquest. While preparing for this, an invitation came addressed to her sister to attempt the Korova League. However, her sister being done with journey's for the time being, decided to pass it on to her all too excited sister to take it on in her stead.

 Starter Pokmeon

Spoiler

Species: Lepash
Nickname: Rus
Gender: Male
Obtained: Two weeks ago, prior to her getting to Korova proper.
Personality: Rus is a bunny with no shortage on pride, puts its best foot forward in all it does. It however, has a rather tulmutuous relationship with its owner both due to the former not meshing with their new trainer's over exuberance, and the latter not really having any idea how to act with pokemon.

Biography

Spoiler

Naomi's childhood was rather unusual. She basically raised herself from the moment she was old enough to walk and talk. Her parents would often disappear for long stretches of time and often only came back briefly before going off to more “adventurers". They would often bring Naomi books, particularly fairy tales, and other such things to keep her amused.
Her house was near the outskirts of the city and, as her parents usually came and left at night, not many people even realized that they were leaving a child for long stretches of time.
Thus Naomi grew up mostly by herself, until her 10th birthday, when her parents brought her a young Rhyhorn to play with. She grew attached to this Pokemon and she seemed to be content with her simple life.
And then her parents didn't come back for even longer than normal. Police came to her house and informed her that her parents, who were evidently infamous thieves, were arrested and she was going to be sent to live with her grandparents.
Naomi had never met her grandparents but she knew they were farmers. Which meant hard work. And waking up early in the morning. Naomi wanted nothing to do with that.
This is when she learned about the Korova Region's funding of starting trainers to take on their Pokemon League. Naomi didn't care much for challenging Gyms but it seemed to be a better life than farm life. And so she took the first boat to Korova she could find, with her loyal Rhyhorn by her side.

Personality

Spoiler

Naomi has a chronic case of excessive chill. She goes through life without worrying about much. She's the type who would be friends with everyone but not necessarily close friends with anyone. She doesn't like having to work or even really be awake for long periods of time and the only time she gets upset is when being forced to go beyond her limit of activity.
However she is quick to forgive and forget, especially as she's quite un-observant and can easily literally forget what is going on.
Oddly she tends to enjoy scary situations and, while she is difficult to scare, she seems to be fascinated by spooky things.
When it comes to other people she doesn’t particularly judge for any reason except if they are harming others. She dislikes this greatly and, if taken too far, can be spurred to action very briefly.
She loves Pokemon greatly, believing them to be in many cases better than people, and dislikes forcing them to do anything. She won’t battle if her Pokemon doesn’t want to.

Starting Pokemon

Spoiler

Pokemon: Rhyhorn
Name: Princess
Gender: Female
Appearance: Has a pink bow on her head.
Personality: Protective and motherly, though more on the tough love side at times. Patient but also tends to not put up with Naomi’s crap when Princess feels they need to get a move on.
Method of Catching/Length of owning: Given at 10 years old as a gift from parents.

Misc

Spoiler

Theme
-Has nearly permanent bed-head.
-Especially adores stories about princesses and knights and thus tends to be drawn to people with traits similar, be it physical or mental, to them.
-Gets cold easily.
-Oddly perceptive of what time it is at any given point.

NEET

Spoiler

nG33hhA.png
"Being outside is overrated. Why am I here again?"

Name: Belladonna "Belle" Morgane
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Hometown: Saffron City

Appearance

Spoiler

7W8POpq.png
Image made by hishiuma
Height: 5'0"
Weight: 150 lbs
Since she has an appetite but doesn't like to go outside, Belle has gotten to be overweight for her size.

Personality

Spoiler

If there were a word for Belle, it'd be "sloth." Lazy, apathetic, and sedentary, she is a hedonist, only caring for indulging her whims, which include eating, sleeping, and surfing the internet. She is the kind of person who will spend hours wrapped up in a blanket watching Slowpoke videos while eating potato chips. Belle prides herself on having eaten every kind of potato chip in the world. She also prides herself on knowing useless facts gained from the internet, such as "Zubat always turn left when exiting a cave," or "Everybody has a unique tongue print."

Belle despises normal outdoor things like bright sunlight and talking to people. She will often shout "The light burns! Make it go away!" when the sun is out, and hiss when people get too close to her. She has absolutely no interest in dealing with people and would prefer to remain an outcast shut-in for the rest of her life, thank you very much. However, she is secretly curious about the world and the people in it, she just wishes she could experience it from her bed.

More intelligent than many give her credit for, she oftentimes doesn't showcase that intelligence except when solving puzzles "because I'm an expert at video games." While she is fine using her abilities when by herself or around family members, she is uncomfortable using them around people she doesn't trust, as she doesn't want to deal with the inevitable hassle of explaining herself and being treated differently from then on.

Biography

Spoiler

Belle was born to a family of infamous psychics in Saffron City, most notably her older cousin, Sabrina, who was both admired and feared not only for her psychic genius, but for her battling prowess. As a child, Belle was shunned by the other children, fearful that she would become just like her cousin. Partially as a reaction, partially out of laziness, Belle lost any and all desire to hone her psychic powers aside from the bare minimum: telekinesis. With her powers, she could lift a can of soda less than a foot from her and guide it to her mouth, all without moving a limb. This ultimately led to her current condition of hating to move at all, and letting her powers do the work for her. Unfortunately, she cannot move human or even Pokémon-sized objects, as she's discovering to her detriment now that she actually has to walk around herself.

Hurt and angry by how people treated her, Belle vowed to become a shut-in. She sequestered herself away in her room, much to the dismay of her parents, with only books, games, and a computer for company. Eventually, she became addicted to that lifestyle, inadvertently learning about Pokémon along the way as she played video game after video game. She especially became fascinated by Slowpoke after watching a music video on them, and declared them her spirit Pokémon.

When Belle turned sixteen, her parents, fed up, decided to kick her out of the house so that she could become "at least somewhat normal." Lost and confused, she went to her cousin, who took her in for a time. There, she would do odd jobs like clean up the Saffron Gym. After inadvertently wrecking the place for the tenth time, Sabrina then informed her about this amazing contest going on where all you had to do was sign your name to enter. And the prize was money beyond imagining. Taken in by the idea of having enough money to go back to her old lifestyle, Belle signed the contract, was promptly teleported to a strange port, and dumped there. "You can't back out now," Sabrina cackled as she left, muttering, "Finally, I'll be able to clean up my Gym now. I can't believe she managed to spill acid on the warp tiles. Really, does she not know the difference between bleach and hydrochloric?"

Without any choice in the matter, Belle was forced to accept a Pokémon and start the journey. As an excitable girl nearby chose a fire rabbit, she was left to decide between a grass cow and a water bear. Eventually choosing the grass cow because it looked "easy to raise," she boarded the boat, dreading the upcoming year, or however long this would take, with all her heart.

Starting Pokémon

Spoiler

Name: Moo
Species: Poamoo
Gender: Male
Obtained: A few weeks ago, prior to her getting to Korova proper.
Personality: Moo is a docile bull who is still somehow more ambitious than his owner. Not yet sure what he thinks of her, but willing to follow her instructions anyway.

Other

Spoiler
  • Theme: The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars
  • Obsessed with Slowpoke.
  • Third time e-sports champion of the game Munchlax's Cookie.
  • Top player ranking for League of Legendaries and Pokémon Unite.

Wistful Harmonies

Spoiler

Tender Glow
Light Your Heart Up
Relentless Advance

jKx0aRZ.jpg

Name: Milla Reuter
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Hometown: Blackthorn City, Johto
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 120 lbs

Personality:

Spoiler

Milla approaches the world with reserved curiosity. Many things interest and captivate her but she wants to remain at a distance rather than directly participate. How well she hides her interest is another thing altogether. This comes in part from never having wanted for material goods. Having had most things handed to her has made living a spectator's sport rather than something she has to actively make herself get through. This does make her a bit awkward and even a bit unknowledgeable about the normal way of life but she is ever curious about it regardless.

This general attitude leaves the young girl with relatively little to say on the subject of herself. She could mention her family's wealth, the things she has, the places she's gone; but in most of this Milla doesn't feel particularly attached. What is there to gain from learning about her she wonders. Asking others questions comes fairly naturally but answering some about herself gets tricky. This has made bonding with people difficult in the past unless they share in one of her hobbies. All this said, her emotional honesty is very apparent from the get go. She does want to understand and enjoy the things that happen to her.

There are several things that the girl enjoys greatly in life. Music is the foremost of her interests. She's always listening or playing or even writing music. As a well trained pianist she would spend hours sitting down at her piano, writing and testing and tweaking new ideas that come into her head. This lets her invent melodies to things as she observes the events going on around her. Giving life a soundtrack brings a smile to her face. If you like a song she likes you're in for a surprise. A burst of energy from the otherwise fairly well contained young madame.

Another obvious hobby is Pokemon. Playing with her adorable friends is one time where the refined image drops altogether. She very much likes to baby them, show others how cute they are and the like. She's a bit more hesitant about battling with them. Her friends being hurt is hard to watch but she always believes they'll pull through. Talking about herself may be difficult but she'll talk your ear off about her buddies.

Biography:

Spoiler

Milla's father comes from an incredibly wealthy family. As heir to the estate and business holdings, the man found great wealth and resources thrust upon him without any real ability to manage them well. As a child of rich parents he'd had everything he ever wanted and this continues to the current generation. Milla lived a life of luxury. So much so that she can't recall a time she didn't receive something almost immediately after expressing interest. Her mother at least made some attempts at disciplining her but that never changed the fact that anything the young girl wanted was within her grasp.

Even when the girl was very young she could tell there was tension between her parents. The money had been a large factor in her mother marrying her father. Unfortunately, her father knew only how to live the extravagant life and less of how to make it sustainable. His profitable family businesses began taking on huge losses under his less than qualified leadership. And as these losses began to threaten the income and lifestyle of the young family, Mila's mother was not shy at all to voice her disdain.

Mila's father eventually hired suitable executives to replace him so that he could simply go back to being rich and enjoying it and the family stabilized. But the girl would never forget the common images of seeing her parents argue and bicker on every little thing. This conflicting image of contention in the home while also being treated to anything she wanted led the girl to imagine how different the world could be. She'd get lost in books, TV shows or whatever else she could think of to imagine a different way her life could have gone.

The family moved all around the Johto region for a time before ultimately settling on Blackthorn City where Milla spent most of her adolescence. The bias toward dragon-type pokemon was always present but it meant little to the girl. What captured her attention was the Ice Path to the north of the city. Something was so elegant about it. Of course she wasn't allowed to wander near it unattended but that never stopped her from sneaking what peeks she could.

One day, roughly two years ago on one such against the rules visit to the frozen wonderland, the girl stumbled across a Pokemon that was passed out on the ground. It was a Sneasel and was very badly hurt from the looks of things. Without thinking twice the girl scooped it off and rushed it to the city's Pokemon Center. Special care was taken given it hadn't been caught by anyone at that point but upon recovering it seemed reluctantly thankful to the girl for saving him. Driven by her curiosity on the subject she purchased a pokeball and offered him the chance of becoming her first pokemon. He seemed to ponder it a moment before accepting which delighted the girl.

Of course, she hadn't run any of this by her parents. They were of course not exactly thrilled with the idea of her becoming a trainer. But they had since returned to bickering very often with each other and knew that if they shut Milla down on this, the other would approve to get some brownie points. With something resembling parental approval, Milla and her Sneasel began taking small expeditions outside of town.

Recently she was informed by her parents of the Korova region and how young trainers were being sent out to challenge a new league in a new wild location. While many had challenged and bested the Johto League the appeal of their daughter being the first champion of this new league and the clout that would garner for the family name was too much for them to pass. As for Milla, getting to go on a real proper adventure and participate in a pokemon league was some of the first real excitement she'd had in a long time. And so with deep pockets she set out into the unknown.

Upon arriving she was placed into a team. They did well enough together but some odd things kept happening. It was apparent pretty early on how rich she was. One teammate would ask her to spot them for something here or there and she didn't know any better other than to say yes. But the more it went on the more she felt something was off. Like that was all they wanted. After arriving in a new town and being met with more requests than usual, Milla showed some defiance for the first time with her teammates who were quick to show there hadn't been much honest investment in her. In a huff she parted ways with them. But now this leaves her in a predicament. She's down a team and everyone else got partnered up at the start of the region. Did other teams have these sorts of falling outs? Would she be able to find anyone without a team at this point? Nevermind the fact she needed to find two such people.

Things ain't looking so good to say the least.

The Korova region, being much less tourist friendly than other regions, isn't one that many people travel to in this day and age. It wasn't prepared to take in visitors with much pomp and circumstances. It did however have one thing going for it when it came to visitors from other regions and that was New Point Landing.
Located at the western edge of an island, which was itself to the west of the mainland, New Point Landing was the main place for visitors coming into the region and it, at least, had a dock that ships could stop at to drop of passengers which was more than can be said about most of the rest of the region.
Once upon a time the city was the place to go for trading and shopping. These days it has fallen far from its high point and many of the stores are closed and boarded up. Awaiting a day that the region was more prosperous. Many of the remaining stores were family-run and managed by stubborn folk who refused to let the city fall completely off of its original purpose. There existed a singular, larger, department store where the rare visitors were able to get most necessities for their travels.
The ship that was currently coming into the dock was different than most that the city would usually see. It resembled a cruise ship more than anything else and instead of supplies from other regions it instead was full of trainers.
Unbeknownst to the people of the city, nor truly the trainers themselves, these passengers included those who would be much more precious to the region than any other cargo. For these trainers were destined to take part in a struggle that would determine the fate of the entire region.
Pokemon trainers from across the world all coming here with the purpose of taking on the Pokemon League challenge and becoming the Champion that the region has been lacking for many long years.

Anneliese looked out at the city that approached. Her eyes were shining with excitement as she watched the city, much different than Sunnyshore City back home, came closer and closer. "My goodness Leopold, how do you think the ship knows when to stop without any eyes?" She asked the small, lion-cub-like, Shinx that was currently standing next to her and watching with great concern as she leaned over the edge of the railing with no regard to her own safety.
The Pokemon had no answer for her. He didn't have any more knowledge than she did about ships and he wouldn't be able to bring himself to correct her if he did.
This didn't stop the girl from continuing her dialogue with the small creature. "Oh look over there, that's Goldeen right? My goodness there's so many of them. Leopold do you see them right there?" She leaned over the edge to point out the Pokemon swimming along the side of the boat. In doing so she went too far and very nearly tumbled off the edge.
Only stopped by Leopold biting the bottom of her dress and pulling the girl backwards. She stumbled but managed to avoid falling as she looked down at Leopold. "Oh, what's wrong?" She asked, oblivious to how she had almost fell into the water. "Did you want something to eat?"
Leopold shook his head and wondered where the other humans that he had gathered to keep an eye on her were. He could do most of it himself but when Anneliese was this excited sometimes it could get...difficult. When the captain had informed them they would be required to set off in groups of three, for safety reasons, Leopold at first blanched at the idea of trusting strangers to accompany his trainer but he realized that it was something he'd have to accept. As long as they kept Anneliese safe and happy, of course.
      ---
As the ship docked everyone would be helped off of it by the crew. They were greeted by a tall middle-aged, man with mutton chops of such grandeur that they were nearly indistinguishable from a full beard. "Hello, and welcome...to Korova! I got word of your arrival and sallied forth to greet you! I am the dockmaster here, and I wish to be the first to welcome you all to my fair city, the jewel of this region, in my eyes at least, New Point Landing. I'm sure you'll find it accommodating to your needs...You may not even want to leave, gwahahahaha!"
"Oh what a delightful man!" Anneliese said as she smiled brightly at him. She wanted to stop and chat with the pleasant man some more but another part of her wished to hurry off to begin her adventure.
It was then she remembered that she had teammates with her and so she turned to the two of them with an even bigger smile, "So, where shall we start?"
