Upon closer inspection and checking out a few buildings, most of what you find isn't anything special. Some unremarkable warehouses, colorful storage crates, the likes. Pretty standard stuff, until...

An explosion from one of the warehouses near the ocean! Whatever was in it is probably gone now, and late-night workers are already fleeing the scene and making sure on their way out that nobody was injured. There aren't any lasting flames, fortunately, but the doors and roof of the warehouse are well and truly fucked, along with any poor sap that might be inside at the moment.

Damnit! Okay well that didn't go over so well...okay then.

You ask the thugs if you can be of any assistance. The one with the knife nudges one of his cohorts.

"You can help us to all the cash in your wallet. No funny business, aight?"

>Head to Vegas

Little Vegas. Not much to scoff at when the sun's up either, but once the night sets in this part of town truly comes alive. Casinos, bars, clubs, and anything that one could hope for when living a thrilling and materialistic nightlife. Compared to some of the other weirdos on the street, you and your Servant look pretty normal, too. On this particular block of the street you're on, there's three establishments that seem pretty popular, judging by the traffic heading in and out of them. Two casinos - respectively named Gold & Bold and House of Fortune - and a bar in between them simply called Joe's.

You make a mental note of where this warehouse is, then get out of dodge. If anyone was caught in the explosion or struck by debris  from it, that's their problem, not yours. You instead make your way to Little Vegas. Your Servant eyes the buildings, before fixating on one particular place. A tall casino/hotel labeled as Midas Palace. Looking around, it also seems to be the biggest building in the district, at least that you can see.

Alright, let's buy some candy.

After that I'll go explore more of the buildings around the old town.

Candy is good for the soul, but not for the teeth. Your Servant tells you something to that effect as you buy your choice of snacks and leave, not that it stops them from pilfering a piece for themself. Surely the police will be able to handle the explosion. As you explore the rest of Old Town's buildings that aren't locked, you find that none of it is all that impressive. Most of the locked buildings are just houses or shops that have closed for the  night, except for one in particular. You're not sure what its purpose is, but there's a tall pagoda, the doors of which have been locked.

You take a seat and check out the security computer. All the files on it haven't been touched in years, and you suspect whoever worked here last probably got fired instead of simply laid off when you find a porn folder hidden somewhere. Looking at the monitors, however, you spot someone approaching the warehouse.

"Master, be warned. I detect the presence of a Servant."

Wow, two choices huh? Uhh, I guess I'll head for the cold storage since it's closer.

You head to the cold storage warehouse. Given the overgrown grass and lack of cars in the area, it's safe to assume nobody's been here in years. Yet, that mental pointer from your Servant continues to point inside, like a radar that won't shut up.

(Not if you're Michael Bay)

With the help of your Servant, you get to tidying up with what you can find. A broom is good enough to at least clear the dust off the floor and walls as well as any loose trash, though you may have to get more cleaning equipment if you want to really make this place sparkle and shine. For now though, it at least looks like people have been here recently thanks to your efforts, meaning it's time to start setting up shop. A task which you choose to consult your Servant about.

"It's certainly spacious enough. A great place to practice magecraft, and a fine workshop if you're of the tinkering persuasion. Especially if you can animate the machines in here by some means!" Your Servant points to a door that leads into an office of some sort - long since vacated - and continues "I'll take that room there for my own operations, if you do not mind. Man's got to work, after all. For now though, let's make this place a bit more hospitable." The Servant's arms spread out, and various glyphs and symbols began pouring out, attaching themselves to the walls, floors, and ceilings of the factory. "...something like that, yes."

Make a note to my servant that we'll be back to check out the place later.

Go to harbor district to go explore it.

Walk over to police scene if one such thing has formed.

Logically speaking, the explosion was pretty big and if anyone was within close proximity to said explosion, there's no way they would've survived anyway.

Regardless...

You head into Gold and Bold. The rooms are bright and filled with the sounds of slot machines, rolling dice, drunk patrons, and if you listen really closely, freeform jazz over the speakers. A security guard casts you and your Servant a glance, but the latter sneers right back. Their attention doesn't stay on the guard for long before turning back to you though.

"Not a bad place. What brings us here tonight?"

You and your Servant head to the harbor district after deciding to check this building out later. The exploded warehouse just might be more interesting, and perhaps even more fruitful? The police have already arrived on the scene, taping off the site and answering questions from concerned citizens who want to know what the hell happened here. As you get closer, one of them stops you.

"That's close enough, sir. Our men are still investigating to make sure a second explosion won't happen later."

"That big ol' building over there," your Servant says, pointing at the Midas Palace. "Casino and hotel. Tell me, Master. Are you a gambling man?"

Sure I'll head inside.

You head into the warehouse your Servant has guided you to, and the first thing you notice is the inside being rather cold. And quite empty. There are, however, four doors along the back, one of which is accessed up on the second floor. Your Servant doesn't seem sure which door is the correct one all of a sudden.

@REP

Your Servant has been watching the security feeds intently, especially after an unknown visitor headed toward and then into the warehouse. "It appears we have company. No doubt about it, that magus has a Servant somewhere. Orders, Master?"

I'll tell my servant to scout ahead to see if they can see anything interesting about the scene.

I'll look to the officer and say, "oh sorry officer, it's just- wait, a second one?"

"Now you're speaking my language." Your Servant follows you to the slot machines. It's time to do some gambling! As the two of you pull the levers - getting a few losses here and there but mostly coming up positive enough to prompt glares of envy from nearby patrons - your Servant checks your surroundings whenever the opportunity arises. Sometimes as if searching for something in the walls and ceiling, sometimes simply to get a feel for the layout of the casino, and other times tracking the movements of someone else in the casino. In the meantime, these tokens sure are piling up fast!

"Roger." Your Servant - undetectable by the others gathered here in spirit form - makes for the rest of the scene, keeping their eyes peeled for anything of interest.

Meanwhile, the officer blocking your way nods. "If something flammable is inside that wasn't burned up in the explosion, a second one could follow. We're checking the warehouse for any flammable materials that could potentially cause this, and getting them away from the site."

Bold move. I like it.

The thugs - besides the knife-carrying one - burst out laughing in response to your return thread. The one with the knife - a woman upon closer inspection - seems pretty amused, too. "We got ourselves a natural joker, chief!" one of them cries out.

"Whaddya say we do to him? Ship him off to the circus? BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

"No no! He'd put all the other clowns out of a job!"

The knife girl snaps her fingers, prompting the other two to wrap up their laughing fit. When they turn her attention to her, awaiting orders, she simply points directly at you with her empty hand, thumb up, before pressing it down onto her finger. The classic hand gun gesture. For good measure, she "shoots" you a second time. Her cohorts seem to get the message, as each one of them pulls out an actual gun, aimed directly at you.

"You heard the lady. We ain't playin around here. All's you need to know is this is Thunderheads turf, and she's the boss round here."

The knife girl holds out her empty hand, clearly expecting something from you. What that is isn't hard to puzzle together.

Using a combination of magical traps and conventional fortifications with what scraps you were able to find lying around, you've made the old factory quite a bit harder to access without knowing the tricks you've put in place. You then ask your Servant about their own personal plans.

"Good question. Even on as small a scale as seven people and their Servants, it would be fair to call this Holy Grail War a war all the same. Information is key; gathering as much as we can, while still giving out as little as possible. There are some Servants I'm especially curious on the whereabouts of, but oh where to start searching? In a city of this scale and all."

The knife-brandishing woman's eyes widened at the mention of the word "Servant." No sooner than your Servant appeared did she - in a blur, far too fast for human legs to carry her - step far enough back to be well clear of her two cohorts, who were expertly and cleanly cleaved in half by a naginata even bigger than its wielder, who wasn't exactly lacking in size himself.

lancer.png

"Whoops. Looks like the two of you picked the wrong man to mug tonight." Lancer then turned his attention to the girl who had stepped back. A particular look was on his face. That sort of look people have when they say "you knew" about something someone shouldn't have known about. "And it looks like our third knows a thing or two. Well? Where's your boss, girl?"

The woman stared dumbfounded at the man before her, before finally pulling the mask down from her mouth. "I'm my boss," she answered, her voice sounding like it didn't get very much use. "When people talk about a singular person called Thunderhead, they're talking about me. Now, I'll ask you directly. What the hell do you want in my territory when you're fighting in a Holy Grail War?"

"Afraid not Master; I'm just improvising." As your Servant looks around, they can't help but comment "Talk about a palace of sin, though. Sure is impressive what people can build these days, with all the resources and technology available these days. This hotel makes old castles look small, eh?" Pointing upward, they continue "What say we check out the suites in this place a bit later? It's not quite liar's dice, but I wager I could play a pretty mean game of poker."

"You too."

As you ask your Servant if they've found anything, and if they think the initial explosion was caused by flammable materials, they respond. "It doesn't look that way in here. This warehouse is full of paper and various textiles... er, was. The contents in here would have lit up and burned rather well, but an outright explosion seems unlikely. Whatever happened in here, we should assume it was no accident."

>move to bulk storage

With the factory taken care of, you and your Servant head for the bulk storage district of town. As the Servant looks at the various warehouses, an idea seems to pop in their mind. "I wonder if we should raid supplies from these places," they ponder. "After all, who are we harming? A rich CEO?"

@Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd

"Understood, Master." Your Servant follows you out of the security office, to confront the mage who had entered the warehouse. Seems they don't have to guess which door you were behind anymore, as it was the only one on the second floor. Saber hopped down over the guard rail, landing on the first-story floor with a resounding CLUNK as he eyed over the intruder.

"Indeed, I can't imagine someone merely wandering into an abandoned warehouse in the middle of the night as you have. State your purpose."

I'll go silently brood against a wall away from the cops, like all people doing a telepathic anime stakeout do.

I'll ask my servant if they think it was caused by another mage. Also to ask how the cop's investigation seems to be going.

You don't seem too taken a back by a sudden appearance of an individual that was invisible and killed two of you men in the blink of an eye."
