"Well, that doesn't sound very nice," I mutter. "Fighting, that is. I guess that's the name of the game here though, huh?" I think to myself, "Well I was gonna see if maybe we should stop and get something to eat along the way. Or just explore, but maybe it's best to head straight there. Or uhh, wait, is there something wrong with that building?"

I nod, thinking to myself. "Yeah, yeah, that doesn't sound normal. Maybe that's a servant...," I rub my chin. "If you find him again, lemme know," I say as I stand up, looking at the time on my phone. "I need to head out, I gotta meet up with those two Masters I mentioned. Enjoy the pizza, yeah?"

You and Rider head back to the island. It isn't long before you finish up the preparations you'd started the night before with a bit of Servant assistance, and the place is now a suitable arena to drag foes into.

"Nothing wrong." With you leading the way, you and Berserker head for the old factory where you're supposed to be meeting up.

"Indeed, alliances could easily have been forged before I was handed to a new Master. Although I'm confident in my abilities, I would prefer to avoid facing more than one Servant at a time when possible. However, I was regrettably unable to obtain any relevant information while serving my last Master. In our brief time together, we only encountered a single Master, and their Servant had remained hidden. I don't believe it to have been Assassin, as I could easily pick up on their presence, but I cannot further discern what class that Servant may have been."

"Roger that." Lancer brings you back down the wall again, before vanishing off into his spirit form. "The rest is on you, Master. I'll be keeping an eye peeled for trouble, but they'll probably know I'm here anyway." As you approach the house, you notice the soil in front of a few graves is a bit different than in other places.

"Will do," Hifumi says as you leave, presumably to both the pizza and keeping his ears open for any more news of this potential Servant in hiding. The trip to the old factory where you're supposed to be meeting up is pretty uneventful, and you arrive just shortly after Berserker's Master.

You check around the island for any sources of mana, but - rather unsurprisingly - to no avail. Rider, in the meanwhile, seems to have been lingering on that comment about Berserker. Eventually, after double-checking the island, he speaks up.

rider.png

"Looks like there's nothing here. But it's not like we need excesses of mana, as nice as it would be. After all, you're assuming we'll give them a straight and fair fight. I, for one, have no intention of doing something like that. Low blows and cheating; that's how you win a fight. I will admit though, I'd kinda like to take Berserker out first. Once we've got our first fight here, the element of surprise will be gone, so we should use it on the toughest nut to crack."

caster.png

"A fascinating wish." Caster doesn't speak up on any wish of his own. He must not have thought about it that much. Meanwhile, the doors of the factory open. Berserker and her Master have arrived! Followed shortly by Archer and his own Master! "My my, the gang's all here. Come, valued allies! We have sandwiches and champagne. Let's have ourselves a pleasant meeting of the minds, shall we?"

berserker.pngarcher.png

"Mmm."

"Nice to see you too, Caster," Archer said, clearly not meaning it.

I glance at the building again just to make sure. Seems normal enough I guess...

After arriving at meetup

"Sandwiches? Champagne? My, how fancy." I sit down. "Let's eat, Berserker--wait." I pause, squinting at her. "Well, if you're able to eat, then let's eat. If you're not, hmm," I think. "Then, sorry for eating in front of you."

I look at the others. "How's it going, guys? What do we want to do today? Play cards? Go on a vacation? Try to take over the world? " I wait for them to start eating before I dig in.

"Of course I would! How else am I supposed to fight a Berserker? Not knowing who they are or what they're up to is a problem, though..." Quite a dilemma. And something that Rider was clearly pondering on. "Well, figuring these problems out is a Master's job. Mine is simply to make it happen."

You and Assassin head to the local park. Things are nice, quiet, and rather peaceful here. There's kids running around playing, people taking dogs out for walks, and overall a very positive atmosphere going around. Assassin seems happy about it too. There's even a guy sitting at a chess table, apparently playing practice games against himself. He appears to be winning, if you know anything about chess. Other points of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • An ice cream truck that seems to have parked itself in the park.
  • A very old and scruffy-looking dog, clearly a stray who probably hasn't seen a groomer in quite some time. The other dogs are playing with him all the same, but some humans seem to try and avoid him.
  • An otherwise-nondescript goose swimming around in a nearby pond.
  • If you direct your attention to where cars are meant to park for this place, you'll notice that one of the cars is clearly quite a bit more expensive than all the others.

"Eat..."

"Don't burden that madness-addled mind of yours trying to articulate this one, Berserker. Allow me." As Berserker takes a seat next to you, Caster picks up a plate from the table, holding up the sandwich placed atop it. "In the strictest sense, we Servants don't need to eat. We don't hunger, we don't become malnourished, indeed all we need to keep surviving is mana from a given source. But, that doesn't forbid us from enjoying some food all the same. In fact, rumor 'round the Throne of Heroes is that you'll find quite a few gluttons within the Saber class!"

"That," Berserker nodded, to confirm at least most of what Caster had said. To nail in the point, she took a sizable and rough bite from her sandwich, in a stark contrast to Caster's smaller, more modest sandwich intake.

No need to knock. The door's open, and behind it is a person, clearly human. And in front of it is another person, clearly a Servant, and clearly weighing you out with his eyes.

"And what brings another Master to mine's humble abode, might I ask?"

"A necromancer with a Servant sounds like a tough one, if we assume she really is a Master. We should send Caster and his Master to look into it."

"Mmm? And why me?"

"If you get your teeth kicked in out there, I want to laugh about it. Can't do that if it's my teeth."

Meanwhile, your phone goes off in your pocket. Should you check on it, you'll find a new text message from Hifumi.

got my dogs to do some more investigating about our other casino fiend. not sure about the details yet, but I know they've been seen around the Midas Palace. it's this really swanky hotel in Little Vegas with a casino on the ground floor. heard they got an Andy's near there recently, too. if you head that way, can you nab me some curly fries?

"Or, perhaps we should all look into it," I suggest. "We joined together to help each other out, didn't we?" I ask. A Servant would be hard for just one of us, even Berserker, and then necromancy on top of it? If we all go together, we can at least cover each other and make sure we all get out okay," I feel my phone vibrate. "Excuse me for one moment,"

"It's as he says. All three of us going together would be the safest approach. Even if this necromancer is a Master, I doubt their Servant can fight all three of us, especially with Berserker under our wing."

"In the strictest sense, an ally would be beneficial. But there will inevitably be a point where we must betray one another." Saber's eyes narrow, glaring at the new visitor. "There is also the matter of knowing if our ally-to-be can pull his own weight. An ally who cannot contribute is little more than a glorified refugee. What class of Servant are you hiding from us?"

I wilt a little bit at the idea of going alone. But perk up more when I hear that might not happen. "Yeah, I like the idea of us all going together. Being alone's kind of boring and all... Oh, and if you can eat food then, you should eat! After all, without food, life wouldn't be worth living." I pause, "Or, well, we wouldn't be able to live at all, actually." I chuckle a bit in embarrassment.

I think for a bit.

"A necromancer, huh..." I say grimly. "I've heard stories about them in video games and D&D. It's said they can raise the dead...a real life necromancer, huh?" I get a bit excited. "I wonder if he...or she, has a phylactery...wait no, that's a lich, never mind."

"Oh yeah, what was that about a sword, Berserker? Or hmmm, should I come up with a code name? Like Berseria? Then we can call this the Tales of Berseria!" I grin proudly. "And the tales of Archeria and Casteria...or would it be Archerio and Casterio since you're both males?" I muse.

"What's worse, we don't know which ones have allied themselves...which is another potential problem. Seven Servants, means two distinct possibilities aside from just a free-for-all. Option 1: Servants and Masters have worked together in a group of three, which would mean there would be two groups of three while one works solo. Option 2: three groups of two, with yet again, one going solo. I am hoping that if the other options are the case and are forming, we aren't the ones ending up going solo."

"The only method we could use, least the way I see it, could be something along the lines of we return to the city...and lure Berserker to the harbor, then return here post haste and enact the fight. However, if it's more than just Berserker or not Berserker at all, then we may be screwed in the long run."

"Necromancy isn't as easy as the games make it out to be, so this person is a pretty decent mage," I comment as I listen, nodding to myself. "Also, Berserker kinda is a code name, no?" I add. "So, Master of Caster, what say you? If you're in, we might as well get going now,"
