Star Wars: The Boundless Few (IC / PG-13 / Now Accepting)

Recommended Posts

"I don't know who's leading this crew. Frankly, I don't care. That's up to the three of you to decide. But everything you need is in the dossier," Bossk said with a grunt over the intercom.

Halfsies, Grawbacca, and Endaryn were now aboard the starship Morning Glory. It was a "recently acquired" Rihkxyrk assault fighter with multiple illegal modifications, including a cloaking system, an XC2-Capture System, triple heavy laser cannons, and concussion missile launchers. If you looked closely at the ion burns on its right side, you could see faint marks of an old, powerful crime syndicate known only as Black Sun. It's paintjob was only three quarters complete. Fresh black paint was smeared along the edges of the right front and right rear wing, where more ion burns were left behind.

"Your target is aboard a Lictor-class Prison Transport, nicknamed Tartarus II. If you're not familiar, these ships were used to transport Jedi during the Clone Wars. They've got a lot of bulk and heavy duty cells to hold almost any target. But this one only has five prisoners aboard it," Bossk continued. "Make no mistake, this will not be an easy task. There are plenty of guard droids on board, multiple defensive gun positions, turret batteries, and a handful of Gamorrean guards too. So, onto your first question," Bossk snarled. "The target is Zabrak female by the name of Neri," Bossk said quickly. "Young, maybe twenty years old. Classic Zabrakian tattoos, horns--it's in the dossier!" Bossk snapped. He let out a smoke filled grunt and went on.

"Bring her back, alive. I don't give a swamp rat's ass if one of you loses your heads. But bring the girl to me. Oh, and don't forget to link your communication devices to the ship's A.I. Otherwise you won't be boarding it again." Bossk paused. What was he thinking about?  "If she dies or if you fail, don't bother coming back. " Bossk's transmission ended and the three bounty hunters were now alone inside their ship. The silence didn't last long, however, as the Morning Glory's A.I. chirped to life.

"Greetings--YOUR NAME HERE. We are now entering NAL HUTTA regional space. Time to target--TEN MINUTES. Engaging cloaking system." It practically screamed at them, but once it was done with its announcements, the ship was silent again.

Now, just outside the swampy world of Nal Hutta, the Morning Glory and its crew were about to board an isolated prisoner transport.

"Destination--PRISON TRANSPORT has been reached. Activating mag lock system. Capture System engaged," the A.I. announced as the Morning Glory silently latched itself onto the top of the Tartarus II.

At the rear of their starfighter, the bounty hunters would find a metallic tube that had been magnetically  vacuum sealed to the Tartarus II below, connecting the Morning Glory with the prison transport. Inside, the tube was pressurized but allowed for two way transport with a retractable ladder. At the bottom of the tube was a glossy sleeve over the top of the Tartarus II hull. When touched, it would become translucent and allow those above and below to see through it. It could be removed like peeling the skin from a scab. However, once removed, the capture tube will begin its injection phase by burning a hole through the hull of the Tartarus through mounted laser cutters. At this point, entering the Tartarus would be inevitable. Furthermore, once the injection phase has begun, the Morning Glory will seal its own port. When all occupants of the capture tube are gone, the Morning Glory will then retract its capture tube and enter standby phase.

The ship hummed softly as it completed its docking and now sat idly by. "Best of luck!" the A.I. announced loudly.

[OOC]

Hello friends, and welcome to the start of "The Boundless Few". I know that I've already taken a few liberties and practically threw you into the first mission. Fear not! There is no need to dive right in. If you'd like your characters to establish what they did after Bossk initially addressed them in the training hall, please do so! Flashbacks are of course, more than welcome. If you want to create dialog aboard the Morning Glory en-route to the mission, that also works! If you need me for any NPC dialog with Bossk, I'm happy to assist! And when you've all come to a consensus and you're ready to proceed, we will formally begin your first mission. With that in mind, let's have fun!

Fun Sidenote: Wanna know what the ship A.I. sounds like? I imagine it like this!

Grawbacca lounged with his arms behind his head. For an assault fighter, the Morning Glory was surprisingly comfortable. It definitely beat his slave quarters, that was for certain. He was drifting in and out of sleep. He hadn’t been able to get on a regular sleep schedule for a while, and often had to take whatever chance he could to rest up, especially on a day like this. It was a new start. After this, he could go back to doing what he liked. Drifting from planet to planet hanging out in greasy cantinas drinking until he couldn’t feel feelings anymore and got into a fight, resulting in someone getting their arms ripped off. His people were known for that after all.

The ship’s AI told him to link his communication device with the ship or else he would not be able to get back on. He lazily did just as he was instructed.

While the hologram of the Zabrak woman showed to him, he couldn’t help but wonder what was so special about her that they would need to risk their lives to get her. It didn’t really matter. He needed the Hutts off his back, and those slugs were heavy. He owed it to his old partner anyway. That was just what a good Wookie did.

"You really think it would be that easy?  To just ... walk away, like nothing ever happened, into the sunset like the end of a movie?"

Autumn thunder rumbled around the group of four: one on his hands and knees, one standing man looking down on him, and two flanking the Standing Man.  The very dirt beneath their feet became sludge as the Standing Man spoke, pounded by the sixteenth hour of rain.  The Standing Man's face lit up as he inhaled through the waterproof cigarette between his lips, exposing the barest glimpse of a hardened, scarred jaw.

The kneeling man could hardly hear for the rain and wind and thunder; he could hardly see for the darkness of the earliest morning night.  Every pump of blood reverberated through his body like a herd of galloping racehorses, and he couldn't tell at this point if the vibrations he felt were his veins about to pop, his throbbing wounds, the thunder, the pounding rain, or just something else to worry about.

"I let you out.  I gave you life - a life you didn't deserve, scumbag.  I fixed a lot of problems for you, boy.  I beat the system for you, and here you are begging for your life because you couldn't do one stupid favor."

It was only a pause in the thunder, a lull in the rain, but it was enough for the kneeling man to pick up the Standing Man's words.

"I don't beg," he spat back, the ground specked with just a momentary bit of crimson, visible only for the length of lightning.

"You do now."

--------------------

Endo was peacefully asleep, ignorant of the warnings from the computer around him, until a shake and a hum announced that they had docked and were sitting idle.  His belt vibrated, reminding him that the estimated time to arrival had completed, shaking him awake.

His mind swept over the details of the mission: capture and escort target, Zabrak Neri, alive.  Prison ship, which meant they would need to be as quick as galactically possible.  It was only a three-man mission, something Endo wasn't used to.  It was almost always solo jobs or large-scale strike teams, almost never a triumvirate.  First time for everything, though.  It was also the first time Endo was in close contact with a wookiee and a clone.  A 'clone'.  So much work had been done on that thing that he honestly doubted its humanity somewhat.

"That's our cue," he said unhelpfully, starting his walk over to the metal tube.  "I can pop down first, unless either of you two gentlemen want to volunteer."

"Bring her back, alive. I don't give a swamp rat's ass if one of you loses your heads."

"I'm sure they can just install a new one, no biggie, boys." Half whispered to his comrades, chuckling as he flexed his robotic fingers. He leaned back into the chair, letting out a sigh of content as Bossk lectured on. The big lizard boss man had a thing for threats and theatrics. I'll kill you, this. Don't come back, that. Half couldn't help but think he took himself too seriously. Life wasn't all doom and gloom. Sometimes it was kidnappings and theft!

"See you soon, Bosskman!" Halfsies called out as Bossk's transmission chirped out. He turned to Endo and Grawbacca. "Did you see what I did there? Bosskman? Sounds like bossman?" He laughed at his own joke. "Anyway, ready to destroy some clankers?" Halfsies threw his poncho over his shoulder as he moved to prepare for their departure.

...

"Best of luck!"

Halfsies looked back up to where he imagined the AI was. "Thanks so much, dollface. I'll be sure to bring you back something nice."

"That's our cue. I can pop down first, unless either of you two gentlemen want to volunteer."

Halfsies looked to Endo and Grawbaca, both of them towering over him.

"It would be my pleasure to take up the rear, good sir." Half gave a small little bow as he gestured for his new teammates to take the lead.

“Don’t quote your day job.” Grawbacca monotonously told Halfsies.

It looked like the team was ready to get the mission underway. “Great, and when I was just getting comfortable.” Grawbacca roared as he got up. He took his bowcaster from beside him and cocked it. He then placed his large hands on his teammates and told them, with his natural growls, “I think I’d better go first. No offense, you’re both too small to be leading the charge in. I’ll go in first and clear the entry point.” Slinging his bowcaster over his back, he then cracked his knuckles. “And if I see anyone there, I’ll rip them to shreds.” He chuckled at the last part.

Endo tapped the wookiee's hand briefly with his own and stepped back to allow the beast to pass.  A wookiee was one of the few things that stood taller than him, and he was going to enjoy not being the biggest target in the room for once.  "Godspeed," he replied.

He turned to Halfsies as the wookiee took charge.  "I had a dream during my nap.  It involved a commercial for Bosskman and Bossk's Men.  I blame you."  He said it dryly, but the smile on his face showed otherwise.

Into the Breach

At Grawbacca's touch, the sleeve below his hairy palm glowed dimly. Directly below the Bounty Hunters, a patrol of two B1 Battle Droids crossed every thirty seconds. The Wookie was prepared to drop below and pounce on both the machines at once, removing the hindrance at once. However, before Grawbacca could remove the sleeve, he would watch both droids be blasted by lasers and fall apart before he could act. Just moments after the corpses of the B1 Battle Droids were sent flying out of Grawbacca's view, three other dead B1s joined them. Behind those corpses came a dark-blue skinned Zabrakian female wielding a stolen B1 blaster, a human male in rags with a similar blaster, and an older Mirilian male with yellow skin. "How did you know they would cross there?" asked the human male.

"I just did," replied the Zabrakian. Her horns were long and curled from the crown of her head back to her temple. "Let's get off this bucket."

"What of the others?" asked the Mirilian.

The Zabrakian shrugged. "They weren't interested. Something, something, alarms, backup, yadda yadda. Come on!" she yelled and darted down the corridor with the two males behind her. By the time Grawbacca had removed the sleeve and the Morning Glory had cut through the hull of the prison ship, the Zabrakian and her convict comrades had vanished into the east quadrant of the prison ship.

What had appeared in their stead were two Gamorrean Guards, wielding pointed vibrating spears, chasing after the escaped convicts. With the Gamorreans were a flank of B1 Battle Droids, totaling twelve. The Gamorreans had initially passed by Grawbacca, not noticing him. However, one of the B1s saw Grawbacca out of the corner of their eye as they passed by, stopping and staring before uttering disbelief. "Uh... you're... not one of our prisoners," it said as it held its metal head. "Captain?"

The flank of B1 droids stopped and returned. "What is it?" asked the B1 with red face-paint.

"Did we have a Wookie on board?" asked the B1 to its captain.

"Does it matter? You three, go and call for backup. Radio our transport and tell them there's been a mutiny," the Captain commanded of its droids. The rest of you, blast him!"

Three B1 units departed westward to summon reinforcements. The other nine lined up neatly and began to fire down on Grawbacca.

[OOC]

Combat time. I realize its very early, so I will keep things as light as possible as not to overwhelm anyone. There's really no rules here as far as doing combat with the droids. They're small fry and one or two shots will put them down quite easily. If you need any npc input or reactions from me, DM me or ping me in discord.

Effectively, you have two options in this scenario: You can chase down the three B1s and stop them from alerting additional backup and potentially surrounding the Tartarus with more ships, or you can chase after your target and try to escape. If there's any questions, don't be afraid to ping me.

Grawbacca took Endo's place as the person to take the lead. Halfsies shrugged; it didn't matter what order they went in, he privately thought. Both Endo and Graw were giants compared to himself, which meant more blaster burns for them and a lot less for him.

"I had a dream during my nap.  It involved a commercial for Bosskman and Bossk's Men.  I blame you."

It took Half a second to realize that Endo was joking with him. The former Clone Trooper chuckled, glad to see that at least someone had a sense of humor on this ship. "Now that sounds mighty sexy, Endo. Next time, invite me." He gave his new friend a wink and a pat on the back. A tinge of longing hit his chest. There were days where he missed the camaraderie of the Clone Army. He missed shooting the shit with his brothers and eating in the mess together. He shook the memory from his head. They belonged to a different man, to a different clone.

The interior of Tartarus II was revealed behind the film that separated the two ships. The image of fried clankers flashed by the opening. Halfsies could just barely see the image of their quarry run by, Grawbacca's massive frame obscuring most of the scene.

"How did you know they would cross there?"

"I just did."

Call it intuition, a sixth sense, experience, whatever. Halfsies had worked with Jedi before, seen them use the Force. He wondered if there was more to this target than Bossk had let on. Or, maybe he was just looking for things that weren't there. Either way, it was time to breach and time was of the essence.

"On second thought, fellas," Halfsies covered the few feet that separated the space between himself and Grawbacca in two quick steps, diving between the tree trunks he called legs. Readying his blaster arm as he went head first into Tartarus II, Half fired a half dozen rounds at the battle droids that had prepared to fire on them. He crashed into another, using his momentum to bring the clanker to the ground. He wasted no time getting his footing, planting his metal leg squarely on the droid's thin neck and snapping it. His first barrage of blasts had destroyed two other droids that had begun to take aim at Graw.

The element of surprise would be wearing thin.

"Come on, boys, cover me!"

Once Graw and Endo had entered the ship he was prepared to turn tail from this fight and chase after the Zabrakian.

Spoiler

For those keeping count, that's three down of the nine B1 droids that were about to light us up like a middle-class suburban family's Christmas tree.

Grawbacca couldn’t help but laugh at the scrawny battle droids in front of him. He took out his bowcaster and charged the droids head on. First he used the stock of the blaster to smash one droid before beginning to retaliate with bolts of his own. Eventually, the amount of shots being fired at him made him have to get behind cover.

During the fight, Grawbacca said to his associates “I think they know we’re here.” He jumped slightly as a blaster bolt just barely missed him. He growled at that. That cheeky droid was going to pay for that if he damaged his beautiful fur coat. The Zabrak was their target and he couldn’t be bothered with the fight any longer. Graw took out a time bomb from his bandolier and armed it. He then stepped around to the droids and gave it a good toss.

Endo decided that his best bet would be to let the two more aggressive members of the party do their thing.  He kept his head down and watched the blaster bolts fly by in every direction, and after a few seconds he realized that it would have been pretty simple to just use an explosive; as that thought crossed his head, Endo watched the wookiee toss a time bomb down the way to the remaining droids.  Endo hesitated for the briefest moment and then watched as the droids paused their fire briefly to concentrate on the bomb.  With the brief lull in the action, he quickly drew one of his twin pistols and took down running towards the direction the Zabrak was moving.

As he turned the round corner away from the group, he took a stutter step to aim and fire a single shot at the time bomb in the air, causing it to explode near the end of its arc and committing maximum damage to the group of droids.  Not missing his beat, his one shot successful, he broke into a mad sprint.

The Neri-go-round

The B1 battle droids had been quickly dispatched, leaving nothing but scrap metal where they once stood. As Endo dashed past the pile of droids, a door sealed shut in the opposite corridor behind him. The remaining droids that had gone for backup had successfully escaped. Ahead of Endo, he would see the Gamorrean guards rounding a right corner. As they did so, the sound of blaster fire and ricocheting lasers around the corner became loud. There was a loud and angry squeal as one of the Gamorrean guards was gravely injured and went down. Another painful squeal came from the last guard as the prisoners entered Endo's line of sight. But the prisoners were not without loss. The Mirilian male was dead on the floor with a hole through his chest, but it wasn't from the Gamorrean's spears. This was a blaster wound.

The human male had the Zabrakian female at blaster point and was backing away into the hangar bay. "Sorry," he said as he prepared to run away. "But I need that escape pod."

The Zabrakian whipped to her right and kicked the blaster out of the human's hands, before ramming him with her horns and sending him careening eighty-feet over a metal railing into the hangar. "So do I," she declared.

Escaping, however, would not come easily. After the human male was down, a series of alarms began to sound on the ship. It was then that the communication devices of the bounty hunters began to blare with the Morning Glory's A.I. "Warning!" it said sweetly. "Incoming Escort Frigate!"

It had taken only moments for backup to arrive to aid the Tartarus II. And it wouldn't be long before a boarding party began their assault. The Zabrakian female raised her head and spotted Endo only a few feet away from her. She looked to the hangar bay, then back to Endo. She waved goodbye to him before leaping over the guard rail and sailing into the hangar. Behind Endo, his immediate path was closed off as the Tartarus' emergency protocols went into action. Blast resistant doors blocked his path and prevented a way through. He was now separated from Halfsies and Grawbacca. His only way forward was to the hangar bay. And inside, a boarding party was already landing. An outfit of B1 Droids and three Droidekas were swarming the hangar.

The Lion and the Tin-man

As for Grawbacca and Halfsies, their options were a bit more versatile. They were currently in the prison quarters. One level above them was the bridge and control room. It was heavily guarded, but accessing and taking over the main controls would greatly increase their chances of victory. There were no more immediate enemies in sight, but standing around would not favor Halfsies and Grawbacca. However, due to the emergency protocols in place, they would have to take the long way around and go through the access tunnels to reach the bridge. Even more frustrating, the access tunnels would not fit a Wookie. Halfsies would have to split up from Grawbacca to reach the controls and disable the emergency protocols. This meant that Grawbacca would be a sitting duck by his lonesome until the doors were opened.

Around them, the remaining unknown prisoners stirred at the sound of the alarms. One of them, strangely, was a B1 Battle droid. For some reason, it was locked inside a cell with the corpse of a prisoner. It was unarmed, but it approached the cell doors anyway. The remaining prisoner, a male Twi'lek, only raised his head to scoff at the bounty hunters, before putting his head back down.

Endo and Grawbacca joined the firefight, affording Halfsies some more cover. He could get used to having the massive Wookie on his team. They quickly dispatched of the droids and Endo took off down the hall. "Not cool, I was going to do that." Halfsies grumbled, now Endo would look super cool if he got to their object first. Of course, after skimming the dossier he wasn't so sure he wanted to succeed. On one hand, yes he did because otherwise he'd be out of a job and probably all future jobs. And he did need those to stay alive. But, also, something didn't sit right with him taking in someone that was working to free slaves.

Tricky business. He thought to himself.

It was all made trickier now that the ship knew they were there. Blast doors had sealed, reinforcements had been alerted. Maybe going after the fleeing clankers would have been more productive. He shrugged. There weren't too many options now. "Alright, Graw, my man. I'll get us to the control room, no problem. Just give me a quick second and I'll get you an all-access pass. Try not to miss me too much while I am gone."

Halfsies took the long way around to the access tunnels. That was the downside to being the smallest one on the team, he had the luxury of crawling through all the hot and dark places. It would've been enough to turn the clone on if it wasn't so uncomfortable.

"Hey, Neri!"

The chasing bounty hunter ripped the mag-locked end of his grappling hook from his belt and started to swing it like a lasso.  Hoping that the use of her name would make her hesitate for just a moment, Endo leapt over the side that plunged down to the hanger then yeeted it at the falling target.  “That escape pod isn’t going to make it past the frigate outside!”

Neri turned as she fell and realized she was about to be toppled. “Who are you!?” she screamed as she fell. Whoever he was, he was right. A small army of droids had entered the hangar and the escape pod option was suddenly not viable. Before she could hatch any more brilliant ideas, Neri’s waist and arms were wrapped up by a grappling hook. She was caught much sooner than she had hoped. She was now flailing toward the ground like a fish out of water. She landed hard on her side and curled up behind the escape pod.

“Free your arms!”  Endo shouted as he landed on the ground, superhero-pose style.  He had to wait for his leg armor to dissipate the force of a 100-foot jump, and then he immediately jumped behind the escape pod as well.

“My name is Endaryn, and I am a bounty hunter.  I’m not here to kill you, and I certainly don’t want to take someone like you to whatever it is I’ve been told to take you.  Slaves..”  He trailed off for a minute before blinking and looking back down at her.  Blaster fire started whizzing over their heads as the droids slowly started to advance.  “I’ve loosened the slack on the hook, you can free your arms.  I’m not letting you go because if you get away, I die.  At this point our lives are bound - either both of us make it out, or neither.  I have a cloaked ship and two partners who are going to do their best to get us out of here.  We can figure out what to do once we escape.  Deal?”

As he waited for her to accept or deny, he removed one of his ion grenades and lobbed it at the droids across the hangar; anything caught in its radius would have its chips fried.

Neri freed her arms and stood to her feet. She was sore, but she would live. She heard the satisfying sound of droids clattering to the ground as Endo’s ion grenade exploded, before she made a decision. “I don’t really have a choice now, do I?” Neri said as she dusted herself off. “I don’t normally just throw my life in the hands of the first guy I meet, let alone Bounty Hunters. But seeing as you haven’t pointed a blaster at my head yet, I’ll go along with you for now.” She took a laser glaive boomerang from her belt and peeked over the escape pod. With a flick of her wrist, she let the boomerang loose and handily decapitated eight B1 battle droids. As it returned to her hand, she folded the boomerang and slipped it back onto her belt. It was hard to tell it was there.

“Well, Endaryn. We’re not getting out that way. What do you propose?” Neri asked as she began to scan the hangar for their next route.

“I need one of those,” Endo said enviously.  “Alright, the escape pod can still be useful, but … okay, look, before I go further, I don’t have a plan.  Not yet.”  Before she could say anything else, Endo held his wrist up to his mouth and activated the communicator.

“This is En - did we decide on codenames?  Forget it, I’ve got target.  We’re trapped in the hangar bay, there’s blastproof doors between us and you, and a frigate that’s very quickly going to try and blow us to shreds.  The only way out that I can see is either in this very vulnerable escape pod or somehow you two getting those doors open.”

Grawbacca's communicator suddenly lit up. Grawbacca answered it with a cheery "Tell me something good. I don't have much to do here." With the warning, Grawbacca thought fast. He roared back to the clone "What's taking so long? I thought you clones were suppose to be good soldiers or something like that!" Graw growled as he tried to figure out something that he could do. He could of tried to make his way back to the hangar to help out Endo, but there would be no way he could get the doors open, even with his natural strength. He called Endo back on the comm link and roared into it "What's going on down there? Has the welcome wagon shown up?"

Broken Link

The lone B1 Battle Droid, who had been silent since the attack on the prison ship, finally spoke up. "Oh, good," it squeaked. "The Clone is finally gone." It said softly to itself. "Hey, you! Mr. Wookie! Can I talk to you for a moment, please? I know the Clone would've shot me in the face without thinking, but I know Wookie's have a higher intelligence level, so I was hoping we could have a well developed conversation. I could prove to be of use to you. What do you think?" asked the droid.

Warm in the Middle

As Halfsies neared the Control Room, he would hear the chatter of three B1 Battle Droids: a captain, and two deckhands. Besides those three droids, the bridge was almost completely empty. The droids were in the middle of a video chat with their reinforcements. They were reporting to another B1 Droid, with dark black paint and deeper voice module. "Colonel. We've engaged all lockdown protocols. The invasion team is currently in the hangar dealing with one of the infiltrators. But, we're not even sure how they got on board," said the Captain droid.

"Well they certainly didn't just appear inside your ship, Captain. Not to worry. My forces should be more than enough to deal with them. I've also sent in additional Droidekas for assistance. But be warned, Captain," said the black B1. "If this does slip out of our control, your ship will be destroyed. Along with the prisoners and infiltrators on board. This is protocol."

"Er... Understood, Colonel," the B1 Captain said as it saluted to its death. As the transmission ended, the three B1s began to panic.

"Captain? What do we do?" asked a deckhand.

"Activate the secondary motion turrets on all levels except the hangar and the bridge. If they breathe too hard, we'll know it," said the B1 Captain.

"What's taking so long? I thought you clones were suppose to be good soldiers or something like that!"

"Watch it," Halfsies warned over the commlink, "I haven't been a soldier in a long time."

Halfsies slowed his crawl through the cramped ventilation shaft as the voices of the B1s came through. Clankers talked too much, he thought. Which was funny because, for all intents in purposes, there was ever very rarely a moment where a droid actually needed to speak. He supposed it was just programming to make the Separatists feel more comfortable. Oh well, it meant more intel for him.

"Captain? What do we do?"

"Activate the secondary motion turrets on all levels except the hangar and the bridge. If they breathe too hard, we'll know it."

Gotta love a good cue. Halfsies thought to himself.

He activated the sonic pulse built into his arm, sending the grate that blocked his entry flying off its screws. He immediately took aim at the deckhand that was moving towards the controls to turn on the motion turrets. One shot. Two shots. Three, for good measure. He couldn't waste time trying to clamber out of the air duct so he turned to fire at the droids, even though his range of motion was severely impaired. As his laser bolts sizzled through the room, he brought the comm link to his mouth again.

"Gotta be quick boys, Droidekas are coming in hot and if we don't get this done soon, they're gonna blast us into deep space."

Once he was certain that he had cleared the droids, Halfsies crawled out of the air duct, awkwardly falling onto the floor. Picking himself up, he began to work on lifting the emergency doors.

Grawbacca roared at the droid. The memories of the droid attack on the Wookiees. was still too fresh in his mind to worry about whatever the trash heap had to say. He raised his hands in hammer fists to smash it, but was stopped by Halfsies calling back out to him. “You got lucky.” he huffed. He turned his attention back to Halfsies. “Whatever. Just tell me when to show up.” Still just a sitting nerf, Graw casually rested against the side of the ship’s wall. He could try to blow his way through the door, but he didn’t have enough bombs for that. Instead, he decided on something else. He decided that, since there were a few empty quarters around him, he might as well should take the opportunity to loot, er, scavenge whatever he could find in there. As he wandered from room to room for new goodies, he said back to the B1 “What is it?” in an annoyed tone.

Metal and Flesh

The B1 Unit nervously approached the cell bars as the Wookie reluctantly addressed it. "I know this ship inside and out," it began to brag. "And by the sounds of your communication device, I'd say you're looking for a guaranteed escape route. Judging by the time of your infiltration and the sealed blast doors around us, I'd say reinforcements have come by now. So I'm going to help you escape. All I ask in return is that you do one thing for me," the B1 Unit paused. "Take my A.I. chip with you. I know I'm a programmed separatist droid, but if you find a new home for my A.I., maybe I can become something that's not so... hated. And in return, I'll give you the pass codes to reprogram the main cannons to fire on those reinforcements. It will make your escape much easier."

There was no telling if the droid was being truthful or not. While Grawbacca waited to make a decision, the blast door dividing himself and Halfsies slowly began to open

Bingo!

While Grawbacca and Halfsies were about to be reunited, there appeared to be an error on Endo's... end. The hangar doors were being sealed, effectively trapping Neri and Endo with the hoard of droids.

Droidekas began to roll out of the boarding pods, now joining the small army of B1 and B2 Battle Droids. The escape pod that Neri and Endo were hiding behind was about to be shredded. Neri didn't have any other weapons beside her boomerang, and it wasn't going to cut through the shields of Droidekas. "Damn it," Neri said under her breath. "I'm not willing to die here." Neri wasn't about to wait for the droid army to push in either. She was about to get desperate. She drew her boomerang again and cut through Endo's line to free herself. "I'll be right back."

She fired up the pod and began to put in coordinates. According to the holographic display in front of her, the pod's coordinates didn't take it very far. In fact, it took the escape pod directly into the line of enemy droids and their boarding pods. Neri put the escape pod into maximum thrust and began sprinting toward the exit. Just as her feet touched the entry ramp, the pod began to whir to life. "Move!" Neri screamed at Endo. She jumped down and snatched Endo by the hand, dragging him away from the escape pod. They furiously dodged blaster fire as the escape pod roared. Seconds later the pod began to lift off.

Neri dove behind a wall, still tugging at Endo's arm, causing him to fall beside her. As they did so, the escape pod crashed through the droids and into a boarding pod. There was a rattling explosion that rocked the ship and caused a chain reaction, wiping out the boarding parties but simultaneously setting the remaining boarding pod on fire, prompting it to explode as well. The shockwave was so strong that Grawbacca and Halfsies would feel it above, knocking them off their feet.

Uncharted Territory; Prologue

Halfsies would accidentally stumble thanks to the explosion in the hangar bay, causing him to land against the control panel. He would not hear the computer accept his coordinates. Now, alarms began to sound all about the ship, drowning out most anything else. The hangar bay was on fire, but the remaining blast doors had been opened, freeing passage for Endo, Neri, Grawbacca, and Halfsies to regroup.

Their escape path would be difficult, however. The explosion in the hangar bay and the destruction of the boarding party had prompted the reinforcing escort frigate to charge its cannons and begin firing upon the Tartarus.

Grawbacca looked over the AI chip inspecting it. He had no idea what the droid had intended to happen. Upon his inspection, the chip appeared to be in excellent condition, despite how many years old it should be by now. There was something else about the chip that he could not make out immediately and would need closer inspection. He put in his bandoleer for safe keeping.

Suddenly, there was some kind of wave that took over him and caused him to fall over. His head hit against something metal. "Ah!" Graw roared. "What the hell was that!?" he yelled as he stumbled back onto his feet, back of his head clenched within his fist. With the blast doors opening, Graw could start to make out the clone. "Took you long enough." he commented.

Upon seeing the hoard of droids, he suddenly had a strange flashback. The durasteel began to feel more like sand. He could hear the buzzing of Wookie flyers. He could smell salt water from the ocean. He let out a mighty roar and fired his bolt caster as fast as he could into the hoard, ignoring all other signs of danger as he aggressively pushed forward at them.

Neri huffed, trying to catch her breath after diving away from the exploding hangar bay. Hands on her knees, she finally managed to speak up.

“Well. That wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, but…” she finally stood up straight. “No more droids, right?”

“No more droids?  You know, you could --”  Endo paused for a moment, blinked, and held his hand up.  “You really blew my knees up with that thing, help me up,” he asked quietly, groaning a bit.  “I have several, very large radius anti-droid grenades that we probably could have used without committing a droid war crime.  But, heck it, I can save them for later.”

Neri laughed as she helped Endo to his feet. “Sorry. Can’t say I’m familiar with the arsenal of bounty hunters.” Her laugh was quickly stifled. She almost forgot the position she was in. “Alright, Mr. Hunter. I suppose I shouldn’t make your job too hard. You’ve got a ride to get off this bucket, right?” she folded her arms and waited.

“My last name isn’t Hunter, it’s … significantly more morbid than that,” he said, shaking his head.  “Yeah, I do, but -- alright, let’s get back up to the command area and…”  Endo trailed off again and needed to catch another breath.  “Slavers?  Really?  I can’t hecking do this, come on, we’re breaking you out of here, Bossk can kiss my tentacles.”

He took his utility zipline and he shot it out towards the railing they originally ran in from.

Neri raised an eyebrow, taking hold of Endaryn’s waist as he zipped them upward onto the now mildly scorched scaffolding where they originally planned to jump ship from. “... Hecking? You’re a strange one,” she said as they landed.

The blast doors were open again and the path back to Grawbacca and Halfsies was clear. Following behind Endo, Neri stopped to retrieve a blaster pistol from one of the deceased escapees. She slipped it into her waist belt and jogged forward. “And another thing. What would a prestigious guild like Bossk’s want with me? It doesn’t make sense, in my opinion.”

Around a corner, the sound of bolt caster fire made Neri pause. “I’m not running toward that,” she said quickly.

“First of all, forget I said Bossk’s name.  Don’t embarrass me in front of the other guys, they might snitch.  Second of all - “ The bolt caster fire made him pause again.  “Why not?  That’s just the Wookiee presumably slaughtering a legion of droids.  Second of all, I’ve read your file and I gotta say I can think of a dozen reasons why a debt-ridden, Force-sensitive Rebel raised by witches is a high-value target.”  Endo put a hand on her shoulder and looked her in the eye.

“I’m not a betting man,” the man banned from sports for gambling charges said, “but I’d bet you know exactly why you’re wanted.  And considering the absolute state of chaos our lives are in right now, spilling the beans on who you owed debt to and whose slaves you freed might help me out with my decision to betray one of the most feared bounty hunter guilds in the galaxy.”

Through the Fire

As the doors from the command room slowly creaked open, Halfsies heard movement inside the walls. He quickly drew his blaster and prepared for combat, moving toward the blast doors. Revealing themselves from hidden statis units inside the walls, two commando battalion droids advanced on Halfsies quickly. He fired rapidly upon the droid closest to him, appearing to down the machine. However, its comrade reached Halfsies quickly, disarming the Clone and bringing him to a knee. The remaining commando unit stood back up to its feet as Halfsies was subdued and made its way to the blast doors.

"You guys get out of here!" Halfsies cried out.

The Commando droid at the blast doors began trying to pry the doors open, but was blasted in its back. It promptly turned around to see Halfsies had wiggled free and was wrestling with its ally. "Go! Complete the mission! I'll find my own way out!" Halfsies called out. The blast doors began to grind again before slowly closing back up, sealing Halfsies inside with the two Commando droids.

With Halfsies unable to rejoin the group, it was time to escape. Grawbacca, Neri, and Endaryn quickly re-boarded the Morning Glory and strapped into their seats. "ERROR", Glory said happily. "detachment protocols appear to be malfunctioning.

"Malfunctioning!? Now!?" Neri yelled.

"Unable to detach from prison vessel. Couplings are jammed," Glory said.

"You mean to tell me you can cloak and intercept a highly classified prison barge for a jailbreak, but you can't LEAVE!?" Neri snapped. "We're gonna die!"

"WARNING!" Glory piped up excitedly.

"Now what!?" Neri barked.

"Hyperdrive activation detected," the ship replied.

"Hyperdrive? Wha--you mean the prison ship!?" Neri asked, nearly on her feet, despite her restraints.

"Destination unknown. Coordinates not verified. Probability of hyperjump success: twenty-two percent."

"Oh we're definitely going to die," Neri said, sinking into her seat.

"Engaging shielding. Prepare for hyperspace jump in three... two... one..."

There was an incredibly bright series of lights surrounding the Morning Glory now. The ship trembled violently before coming to an abrupt stand still. The Morning Glory--and its contents--seemed to be in one piece. However, it was still attached to the hull of the Tartarus II.

"Hyperspace jump successful," Glory said sweetly.

"Yeah. Thanks," Neri said, rolling her eyes.

"Happy to help," Glory replied. "Our current destination--UNKNOWN. Closest space port--UNKNOWN."

Unknown indeed. It would seem that the last coordinates that were ordered by the Tartarus II had landed it and the Morning Glory in the unknown regions of the galaxy. Beneath the Morning Glory, the boarding vacuum had been destroyed and the integrity of the Tartarus II had been compromised. As the Morning Glory was finally freed from the grip of the prison transport ship, the Tartarus II drifted into the orbit of an unidentified planet as its hull began to fall to pieces.

"Distance to nearest planet: one hundred and sixty kilometers. We will enter the planet's gravitational field in two minutes," Glory chirped.

"Why?" Neri asked out loud. "Why don't we just jump back to where we need to be?"

"Impossible," Glory replied. "Due to unforeseen circumstances, current hyperspace drive is not functional. Repairs are required."

Neri folded her arms and sank into her seat again. "Of course."

The fate of the Bounty Hunter team was now up in the air. Unable to return to Bossk and trapped in an unknown part of the galaxy, they had no choice except to regroup and start anew. Their destination now was the deep orange colored planet below. They had acquired their target in Neri, but they had lost a companion and their way home. With no other options, the Morning Glory began its descent onto the nearest planet. They would later come to identify this planet as Myarin: the planet of ash. They would land just outside of the small trading village of Bantra by approximately one hour's walking time. There, they could find civilization and hopefully supplies.
