What exactly are they? Nobody knows. Few know they exist at all, and all those few know is that demons are a threat to mankind that must be purged wherever they may be found. A threat that is best killed by other demons. Or in the more realistic case, a human who has gained power that can only be called supernatural by drinking in the blood of one of these vile creatures.
-Celio Bonaventura, Demon Hunter's Handbook, 12th Edition

Congratulations, you fought a demon once and lived to tell the tale. How do we know? Because you drank its blood, of course! Be it on accident or not, you've consumed the blood of a demon, and in turn were recruited by the Demon Hunter's Association. Within the DHA, your duties are pretty straightforward: Kill demons, keep their existence under wraps, and should it come up, track down and either recruit or kill any rogue hunters. Maybe you're familiar with the routine by now, or maybe not.

Regardless of whether you're new to the job or not, you've been recruited into - or perhaps transferred to - the northeastern regional branch of the DHA's American bases. You will be answering to Regional Director Shawn "Dusty" Carter during your stay here, doing as you must when called into action, and doing as you please when not on the job.

rules

Spoiler
  1. I'm the guy in charge. I've got final say in things. If I appoint a co-host (will be announced in both the OOC thread and a dedicated Discord server), he's also got final say.
  2. Have fun. That's the point of a hobby. If you aren't having fun, don't be afraid to bring it up and discuss with me and/or others what can be done to fix that. If you just don't want to stay in the RP anymore, that's also fine, but do let me know so I can figure out how to write your character out.
  3. Don't be a dick. See above. Dealing with dicks isn't fun for anyone.
  4. Any and all ghosting punishments related to this RP are to be waived.
  5. I'm obliged to enforce the Advanced Clause in this RP, meaning your post must contain no less than 100 words that aren't taken directly from someone else's post.
  6. On conditional acceptance: Demon Blood is an RP structured in such a way that it's quite easy to write characters in and out of it. Our doors will remain open for most of the RP's runtime, but should you get accepted, you should expect a bit of a wait time before you're good to start posting.

app format

Spoiler

Honestly, just do whatever you want. As long as you've got the basics (name, age, appearance, personality/bio which can honestly be done in the same spoiler if you want) and tell me about your character's abilities, I really don't care what your app looks like. Now, if you want something more structured, try the below on for size.

Name: and maybe include a cool (or not so cool) alias if you want. doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

Age:

Gender:

Appearance: a pic or at least one paragraph of description. include height if possible.

Personality: 1 paragraph minimum

Biography: 1 paragraph minimum. you can meld this with personality like some RPs do, too, in which case it's 2 paragraphs minimum.

Gift: what drinking demon blood made you able to do. there's more on that in the database spoiler.

Demons

Spoiler

Nobody* knows what they are, where they come from, or what they want. All anyone really knows is that whatever demons are after, it's not good for mankind. They're creatures that can only really be described as magical, appearing out of nowhere and harboring all manner of powers, not the least of which is disguising themselves as the very humans they prey upon. Naturally, the knowledge of such monsters can't be made public, and to that end their existence is treated as super classified information.

*Yes, that includes me. Every time I tried to make sense of what demons are, the RP dies shortly afterward, so I'm not even going to pretend like I'll ever figure it out anymore.

Demon blood

Spoiler

The stuff this RP is named after, because it's quite important. The blood of a demon has unique properties, the most frustrating one being that it's extremely difficult stuff to study. The most important one, meanwhile, is that any living thing that drinks it becomes something more than they were before, becoming not entirely unlike a demon themselves. Be it by means of physical mutations, the development of strange abilities, or more, demon blood is a one-way fast-lane ticket to great power. But that power doesn't come without a price, namely in the form of a dependency on further demon blood.

Not a psychological one, of course. Rather, a physical one. Demon blood can only be produced by demon hearts, and spreads its mysterious properties across anything it enters at incredible speeds. This means that once something has taken the blood in, they must continue to find sources of demon blood simply to survive due to various bodily processes that are still being studied and researched.

tl/dr, it's magical steroids that force you to drink more magical steroids

DHA

Spoiler

Short for Demon Hunter's Association. To put it simply, it's an organization of people who have at some point in their life consumed a demon's blood and now are dedicated to hunting down demons for the good of their fellow man, or whatever other motive they may have. Much like the demons they hunt, the Association's existence is treated as highly-classified information, and they answer only to themselves and the leaders of the world's nations.

Although they have bases established all over the world, this RP will mostly focus on a branch in the northeastern USA.

Hunters

Spoiler

That's us.

When a person drinks demon blood, a significant drawback is that their body rejects non-demonic blood, forcing them to find and consume more demon blood before the effects wear off entirely and they die a horrible death. In the case of those working with the Demon Hunter's Association, this means that you are hunting demons not just to protect others, but to also ensure your own survival. Luckily, demon blood is incredibly potent stuff, and grants anything under its effects incredible abilities, including but not necessarily limited to:

Enhanced attributes: Run faster, punch harder, etc. Especially noteworthy is the rate at which hunters can heal off their wounds with some rest, with broken bones healing within a matter of days.

Sixth sense: Simply put, the ability to sniff out similarly demonic creatures, be it fellow hunters or actual demons.

"Gift": There is no official name yet, but supposedly the next edition of the Demon Hunter's Handbook will have one. In short, an ability granted to a living creature by drinking demon blood that can only be described as supernatural. These tend to be quite suited to the individual, though this shouldn't be confused with a personalized power, as it's not uncommon for multiple hunters to have the same Gift.

Although physical mutations are rather common among hunters, they are for the most part entirely superficial. The most common one is reddened eyes, but even that isn't consistent across any and all hunters.

The (important) people we've met

Spoiler

Shawn "Dusty" Carter, Northeast America Regional Director

Spoiler

3SNwY7x.jpg

Semi-professional wrestler gone Hunter, Shawn's role as Regional Director is a topic of debate among the American DHA's higher-ups. Simply put, poor administrator though he may be, he's the best man for the job despite that, but his lack of administrative skills make some wonder if he's really cut out for the task. On top of being America's most successful Hunter, Shawn has demonstrated a penchant for getting new recruits into shape at breakneck speeds, and in the short time since his promotion, has actively pushed himself to get used to his new role with mixed success. Has never lost a sparring match, and holds the distinction of being the only Hunter in DHA history to single-handedly defeat an A-class demon.

Shawn's success in combat is owed to his Gift. When exposed to harm, his skin develops a black armor-like shell, and the muscles underneath become capable of incredible feats of strength and regeneration, even by a hunter standards.

Acid Bubbles

Spoiler

Image
"Like these bubbles...your about to pop and be no more!"

Personal Information
Name:
Masako Sanada (Lit. Sanada Masako, 真田 雅子)
Alias: Bubblegum
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance:

Spoiler

Hi6Vlhh.png

Height: 5'4"

Originally having black hair, due to the drinking of the demon blood, Masako's hair ended up having a bit of a mutation, changing it to blonde. Her general appearance is a bit tomboyish, but she figures this is the better option to fight demons in than a skirt or a dress. She also wears a pair of gloves that are loaded with a special soap-like substance, allowing her to be able to use her Gift with great ease.

Personality:

Spoiler

Masako is quite the outgoing young lady, one of the most outgoing that you could ever find. Being known for having an air about her that made her a social butterfly and a thrillseeker, she always seems to be on the hunt for information regarding anything adventurous (as teens do) from skydiving to driving fast cars. Didn't matter how she got her kicks to deal with her thrillseeking, as long as she had the chance to enjoy life to the fullest. Though this could be taken as a downside on her in general, given how she constantly searches for the next high on seeking thrills and it has gotten her in trouble numerous times before. Aside from this, Masako is a carefree, friendly soul that truly yearns for adventure.

While mostly serious in a bulk of situations, Masako does seem to be a bit of a flirt when it comes to others she deems worthy of possibly getting with her. Though in her mind, it has to be her that initiates the flirting...otherwise, the game is no longer any fun. At which point another game starts: one where she proceeds to beat the hell out of them, showing them their place. While she is a social butterfly with a carefree and friendly soul...doesn't mean she doesn't have herself a mean streak.

Biography:

Spoiler

"Always knew my brother was pretty awesome...but never thought THIS much!"

Born in Yokohama, Masako was actually the 2nd child in the Sanada family, with an older brother with 12 years of difference between her and him, Akeru. For the younger sibling, Masako found herself looking up to Akeru and just found him to be just an amazing individual. Of course he had his short comings, but the older sibling was in her eyes...the best brother to ever live.

As she grew, however, she began to see less and less of Akeru due to his job. Masako didn't know anything about this job of his, due to him saying it was simply a government job and was very tight-lipped about it's workings. This didn't bother her too much, however, given how most jobs dealing with the government were all pretty tight-lipped and even requiring top secret clearance, plus that whole "If you talk, we'll kill you" motive if anything should happen. Regardless, Masako soon began to notice things changing with Akeru but couldn't put her finger on what specifically was different with her brother. One thing was for sure, he was always getting home faster and faster with each day after leaving work...which was almost unheard of. Again, however, Masako didn't pay it any mind.

One night, however, Masako would finally learn the truth of what her brother was doing. While leaving late from a friend's house, the young woman heard a scuffle happening nearby and she went off to investigate. Upon the investigation, Masako was shocked to see these strange creatures being fought off by a white haired individual...the individual that would just happen to be Akeru himself. One after another, Akeru seemed to strike these creatures, utilizing the blade in his hand along with some interesting powers...demolishing the creatures. However, not paying enough attention, he didn't realize that Masako got very close and was nearby watching...when he noticed, he was overtaken and knocked back. In a moment of desperation, Akeru made the decision he regretted to this day: he told his sister to drink some of the blood from these creatures...the demons. Masako, not understanding what was happening, she only nodded and did what Akeru asked...knowing only that this would help her brother. This was the night that Masako's everyday life died and resurrected in the form of a Demon Hunter. Now with his sister assisting with her newly developed bubble abilities, the Sanada siblings defeated the demons and were able to finally talk about this at the Japanese Demon Hunter's Association...where she had to be debriefed about the situation along with Akeru being reprimanded for his hasty actions.

This did spark Masako into wanting to join up at the DHA, just to help her brother out...however Akeru forbade it and even this decision was backed up by the Japanese branch's leader, forever the stubborn old man he was. Bummed out about this, Masako was beginning to feel like it was just this side of the world that didn't want her and her ability around...so she decided to go out and see about the U.S., seeing as she happened to hear about the DHA in the northeastern side of the States needing some assisting. With that in mind, Masako packed herself up and made it to the States...hoping to finally begin her bit of an adventure as a Demon Hunter. Besides, Akeru trained her the best he could...and with having a 30 year old brother who happened to be a prodigy and a high rank Demon Hunter with portal abilities counted for something in her mind.

Gift:

Spoiler

Bubble Star
[Bubble Generation]
Masako's Gift given to her by the blood of demons allows her to have access to generate and manipulate bubbles from any liquid (aside from the liquid within one's body), even utilizing the moisture in the air to assist in this. These bubbles are quite durable and strong in the manner of being utilized as projectiles and even used as a barrier.

Miscellaneous Information
Masako’s Theme | Battle Theme

  • Desired Voice Actress|Seiyuu: Michelle Ruff (ENG) | Kei Shindo (JP)
  • Masako's name means the follow: Masako - Japanese meaning "elegant, graceful child", Sanada - Japanese meaning "true paddy", however this is also in reference to the Sanada clan.
  • Masako got into enjoying cigarettes thanks to her brother's habit of smoking. Though unlike her brother, she only smokes a cigarette once in a while.
  • The original name/title given to Masako's Gift was Dainty Soaked. Before the change to Bubble Star, it would've been a bit of a reference to "Soft & Wet" from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Part 8 - Jojolion.
  • The character application title for this character is a song title (as I've tended to use those here and there) this one being: Acid Bubble by Alice in Chains.

"HEY WHAT THE FUCK MOTHERFUCKER, YOU WANT TO FIGHT? HOW ABOUT YOU TELL THEM TO TAKE THIS STUPID FUCKING COLLAR OFF ME AND WE'LL SEE IF YOU'RE STILL ACTING SO TOUGH! I'LL DRINK YOUR FUCKING BLOOD AND SPIT IT BACK OUT ONTO YOUR PILE OF BODY PARTS YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT!"

Personal Information:
Name: Patton Grisaille
Codename: Gungnir
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Appearance:

xbA07kq.png
In addition to the clothing pictured, Patton wears an electronic collar at all times, rigged to explode if he disobeys DHA or attempts to tamper with it. Additionally, his neck features a prominent scar running across his jugular and all the way to the back of his neck. More scars are visible on whatever skin he has showing, if one were to inspect him fully they would likely find thousands of various sizes. He does his hair up the way he does to work around scars on his scalp.

Personality

Patton… likes to fight. A lot. He is addicted to adrenaline, and the only real way he knows how to get it is to risk his life in combat. This penchant for hostility has put him in harm's way more times than he can count, but so far he has proven that he is strong enough to survive each time. He is generally friendly and tries to be helpful toward others, and is basically incapable of lying, but if at any point he feels challenged, or as if he is being looked down upon, he will flip on a hair trigger and demand a fight.

Despite his animalistic tendencies, he is actually quite intelligent, and his intellect shows most clearly on the battlefield. While he is limited by DHA to being a tracker and sniper, he picks targets for maximum efficiency, typically can avoid distractions quite well. He has never really had a friend, especially now that he is basically a living weapon for the DHA.

Biography

Patton's past isn't clear, but considering the overwhelming number of scars on his body, it is clearly violent to befit his nature. If asked, he will say he won his demonic gift in single combat against a C-class demon, but most find that hard to believe. What is known is that DHA keeps him under constant surveillance, and that the regional manager can kill him with the push of a button.

Gonna live out my Demon Slayer fantasies here.  I'm in.

Spoiler

Name: Derick Fujiyoshi

Codename: Edge

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Spoiler

aGVG4In.jpg

Height: 6'0"

Personality:

Spoiler

Derick, since his fated encounter with demons, is unrecognizable from the cheery kendo enthusiast he used to be.  His sense of honor remains in tact, and he is always one to keep a promise or uphold any sort of agreement.  His cold gaze can almost be felt across the room, and he can mainly be found staring off into space, when he's not practicing his swordsmanship.  He hasn't smiled since the day of his recruitment, usually offering a sharp glare towards anyone who even had the intent of making conversation with him.  He's diligent, and precise in each and every action he makes, and tends to never to be late to any sort of mission, if he's not the one who finishes it first.

Biography:

Spoiler

Derick was once a kind boy.  He was raised by his American mother primarily, whilst his Japanese father traveled the world as the reigning Ken-do champion, participating in various matches.  Derick admired his father greatly, and vowed to one day hold the title of Ken-do champion of the world, to uphold his families name, and to make his father proud of him.  Once his father had retired as champion, he watched over Derick's training with the sword.  Derick was finally happy to have his father around all the time, and the smile he saw while the boy's stick flew through the air painted the same smile on Derick's face.  Ken-do was going to be his life from now on.

When Derick turned 14, his father was challenged to an exhibition match against the new World Champion, a viscous up and comer named Okada Ryouma.  The day of the match, Derick sat front row as he saw his father opposite his opponent.  However, something was off with his dad's stance, it was a stance he had only taken once before when he challenged his predecessor.  But as soon as he saw his father's opponent, Derick could feel the blood-lust dripping from the man.  The match was excruciating and long, neither man giving up a single point for minutes.  After five had past, Derick's father scored.  The tension in the room was thick, as they took up their stances once more.  This time, it was over in a flash, and Derick's father lay on the floor, completely unconscious.  Okada's Shinai had cracked through his father's helmet, and subsequently, his father's skull.  The cause of death was ruled as an accident, and Okada walked away a free man after killing his father.  Derick made a mad dash for the man, hopping over the stands to throw aimless fists at the towering giant, but was knocked away brutally.

Okada bent over Derick, and whispered into his ear: "Your father was weak.  He could never defeat a Demon like me.  A real Demon."  That night, on his way home, Derick and his mother's limousine was attacked by two otherworldly creatures, things from out of his worst nightmare.  Picking up his own Shinai, Derick made a desperate attempt to fend off his attackers, to protect his mother, but only managed a grazing strike against one of them that cut skin, throwing blood to the floor.  But it was no use, as they flung him away just as easily as Okada had done.  Were these real life demons he was up against?  With his mother in peril, Derick looked to the blood on the floor...was it calling to him?  He ingested the stuff, and the results were immediate.  He was easily able to behead the demons attacking his mother, but shattered his Shinai in the process.  Little did he know he was being watched by agents of the Demon Hunters.  They asked if he'd be willing to join them, on account of him becoming a demon of sorts himself, in order to wipe their kind off the face of the earth.  Derick gladly accepted their offer, and trained with a real sword ever since that night.

Derick's goal to become Kendo Champ of the world had been tossed to the wayside.  In it's place was the burning desire to rid the world of all demons and their offspring from this world.  First he'd come after the evil ones...then this organization.  And then after all was said in done, he would finish the last of the demons and lay himself to rest.

Gift:

Spoiler

Derick's senses and reflexes are high above the standard for most Demon Hunters, and are comparable with higher ranking members.  His sword was forged by the resident scientist of the American branch of Demon Hunters, named Muramasa no Ken, a blade designed specifically to keep up with the physicality of a Demon Hunter.

Blink: Derick has the ability to seemingly disappear into space, appearing in any area within his line of sight.  Any momentum he carries with him while 'blinking' is followed through when he reappears.  Currently, Derick's training has made it so that he can 'Blink' twice every minute.

Misc: Derick's sword is the 天の腕 (Ten'nokaina)

Fissure

Spoiler

General Info

Spoiler

Name: Kira Zemlya "Fissure"
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: Despite her strength Kira stands at only 5'5". Her hair is long, waist-length, dark brown, and somewhat wild. Often getting in her face especially on a windy day. She doesn't look like someone who would usually stand out in a crowd and dresses much the same. Jeans and T-shirts. Most of which tend to have occasional tears and have a casually unkempt look. She doesn't look like someone who's incredibly muscular either. A casual runner build at best. Her expression usually ranges from annoyed to detached but her actually angry face is a sight to behold.
Art by mono

Personality

Spoiler

Kira is a rather blunt and honest girl. She is highly uncomfortable with lies or even casual dishonesty. Which makes having to keep everything about demons a secret rather hard on her. When she speaks she often doesn't think about other's feelings before saying what's on her mind. Though she never means to upset people so she often will feel bad, albeit confused, when she does. That said she also doesn't speak up incredibly often. Preferring to keep to herself she will often be the type to hover just behind the group and listen more than speak. She doesn't dislike people she simply isn't sure how to handle them.

A bit of an awkward girl socially Kira tends to struggle to know how best to respond to things. While often she tries to be detached she can instinctively react violently when she doesn't know how to deal with a situation. Which isn't aided by the simmering anger issues that has grown even more after the incident that granted her her "Gift".

On the note of Gifts Kira detests her own and wishes that there was a way to remove it. She can't fully control it and whenever she breaks anything, or injures anyone, she's overcome with guilt. Guilt which she often keeps to herself.

Biography

Spoiler

For most of her life things were calm. Safe. Simple. She had decent grades, never really got into much trouble, and while she had few friends there were a couple people she could confide in about struggles she was having. She was even in a club, track, and while not the best was still quite good. Her parents were often strict yet kind. When high school ended and she decided to wait a while to go to college they were understanding though urged her to get a job.

There was one major flaw in this simple and happy life. She had a stalker. They would leave letters for her at home and, when she began to ignore those, in parks and stores that were part of her usual activity. She only ever caught a glimpse of someone who she thought was the stalker a few times. On one such occasion she was walking home from a grocery store she had left an application for when she noticed someone following her. She began to run and, fear overtaking senses, ended up running out in front of a truck.

What happened next was what she was told by someone who had spoken to witnesses of the event. The stalker had ran to her and, after killing the man in the truck, slit their own wrist and force-fed her some of their blood. Kira, evidently in a daze, had grabbed the stalker's head and crushed their skull between her hands before passing out.

She woke up in a hospital where a member of the DHG explained the situation. Externally she nodded along calmly but inside her mind reeled. What would she tell her parents? Was it safe her staying at home anymore? She got answers to some of her questiGifons though not all. All she really knew was that she had a job to do whether she liked it or not.

Gift

Spoiler

Gaia's Embrace: To put it simply Kira is strong. Incredibly so. While all Demon Hunters have increased physical prowess hers expanded to obscene amounts. Able to toss cars with ease and destroy buildings with her bare hands were she to try.
This strength seemed to have come with heightened endurance. Which is a blessing as her strength would tear apart a normal person if they tried to use it.
She also can run at fast bursts, though this tends to break the ground at the starting point, and leap great distances.
Her strength also allows her to cause localized tremors by smashing the ground.

Other

Spoiler

Theme

Battle Theme

Accursed Cherubim

verabannerpredevelopment4.png
"Anything for my love..."

Name
Vera Zofia // Tierra

Age
19

Gender
Female

Appearance
wings-long-hair-monochrome-sitting-anime
5'4", 105 lbs

Personality
Broken. That is the number one word to sum up Vera. A life full of being let down, betrayed, and hurt led to her being very closed off to people. It's not that she isn't kind or considerate, doing little things whenever possible, but she is too scared to do them directly. She has a deeply obsessive personality, her entire life devoted to making a single person happy, to the point she doesn't even pay attention to her withdrawals until she's on the very cusp of death, much less regular eating and drinking.

She also has very poor control over her emotions. Due to repressing them constantly, she has trouble expressing anything other than submission and silence in a healthy manner. Her "Gift" exacerbates this, causing them to release wildly and uncontrollably, even in situations that her abilities have no business being in.

Even her personality radically adjusts around these intense emotions, making her seem like an entirely different person with each one going through her.

Biography
[REDACTED]

Gift
The most basic form of the "Gift" is the melancholic wings on Vera's back, with dark colors swirling throughout them. They are not physically there, instead an aura that reflects her mental state.  They confer the ability to float about 6 inches off the ground. Her eye color also reflects her mind state, changing with her intense emotions.

Intense rage makes her eyes turn a blood red, the wings turning into demonic claws, made of the same aura, but the color matching her eyes. Her personality changes to match, loud mouthed, aggressive, and nondiscriminatory as she smashes.

Intense sadness turns them deep blue, creating a protective bubble around her with the aura. She spends almost the entire time crying, unable to do anything but give in to the intense sorrow washing over her. She often spends hours like this after the effects of other intense emotions wear off.

Intense despair turns her eyes pitch black, the aura itself crumbling away around her, corroding anything it comes into contact with, other than herself. She is completely immobile during this time, unable to make sounds beyond muttering to herself.

Possibly more to come, at host's discretion. But this is it for now.

She has little to no control of her emotions at this time, instead her "Gift" controls her through them. When anything bigger than "small" changes how she feels, she flies into her emotions, unable to control herself, making her a bit of a wishy-washy berserker.

Sleeper Scientist

Spoiler

dayna.png

"Did you know DHA rules forbid any experiments that involve organs harvested from demons? I worked so hard to get my hands on a fully-intact brain, and now it's just sitting in a jar doing nothing."

Name: Dayna Miller
Age: 22
Gender: Female

Appearance:

Spoiler

1RjRfr4.png

Height: 5'6"

Personality:

Spoiler

A girl whose ingenuity is matched only by her chronic lethargy, Dayna is passionate about her research, and it's no exaggeration to say the science behind demonology is a defining factor of her life. "There must be a better way" and "there must be a reason" are two phrases that sum up her research pretty well, and they are in fact just as crucial to her daily life. If Dayna figures out a way to make things more convenient or efficient, she makes changes to her routine to embrace that better way, and if she does something, it isn't some passing whim and has at least one reason she thought of beforehand. Other more whimsical mindsets are simply not compatible with her, since she can't imagine doing something for no reason.

She is of course interested in personal gain, as humans tend to be, but it would be wrong to call her ambitious. More than wealth and power, she's interested in gaining convenience, knowledge, and maybe a well-earned break when she's finally done working herself to the bone. Outside of science work, Dayna is in fact incredibly lazy. If she can get someone else to do something instead of having to do it herself, that's fantastic, and otherwise she'll probably end up putting it off until she happens to be in the spot to do the thing. She'd rather lounge about somewhere, reading a book or doing some sort of puzzle, or even better, taking a nap. While she doesn't mind having a conversation along the way, she's terrible at small talk, tends to space out when not working, and has zero sense of when not to say certain things.

Biography:

Spoiler

The Alaska regional branch's finest researcher and technically a DHA veteran despite her age, Dayna quite literally grew up in hunter society. Her father is a hunter, and a combination of a steak knife, cranberry juice, and a very serious case of the hiccups led to her unintentionally consuming a hunter's freshly re-demonized blood during her infancy. And so, for legal reasons, Dayna was recruited into the DHA at the ripe age of two. While this did rob her of a normal childhood, it isn't without its benefits. On top of giving her seniority over most hunters twice her age, knowledge relevant to the Association and the demons they hunt are second nature to her. Combined with a largely non-combatant Gift, Dayna was a shoe-in for the research & development team. And by all accounts, she was incredibly good at her job once she was old enough to actually start working with the DHA.

Thing is, the Alaskan branch ran a pretty tight ship. Dayna's ideas and would-be experiments - while brilliant - were all rejected for their unethical, if not flat-out immoral natures. Unable to make the qualifications to head the R&D team because she couldn't get any projects launched, Dayna simply had to play second banana to the actual R&D head in her area. If she were a more ambitious sort, this story probably wouldn't end well, but being more interested in getting some sleep than a promotion, Dayna was content to simply advance and improve any projects she had a hand in. She even had the privilige of working with the Russian DHA's legendary research team once or twice.

All of this becomes relevant to her current position about a week ago. The R&D team in the northeast regional branch had lost a few of its members on the field, and the Regional Director had in turn put out a request for replacements. Out of what she suspects was her boss simply not liking her for being better at their job than they were, Dayna was given the order to pack her things and fill in the missing space. Unfortunately for her, the R&D head she worked under was one of the few people she couldn't pull the seniority card on. With both the chain of command and seniority against her, Dayna didn't really have any choice but to accept.

Gift - All-Seeing Eye:

Spoiler

Not to be confused with an actual all-seeing eye. Dayna is capable of seeing things that can't be perceived by a regular pair of eyes, seeing it as pieces of data floating around whatever it pertains to. What exactly that data is can vary, but this allows her to see things like the amount of bullets in a gun, the weakest & strongest points of a structure, the status of a person's body, and more. The only caveat is that Dayna must have direct vision of the thing she's looking at for it to work; seeing it through a security monitor or in a photograph won't work.

Misc

Spoiler
  • Runs on a 90/10 ratio of caffeine and an unhealthy sleep schedule.
  • She'd nearly finished the paperwork to get a transfer to the southwestern regional branch when the request for replacements in the northeastern branch came in. Is a bit miffed that all the work wound up being for nothing at the last second.
  • Has been accused on several occasions of using her Gift to cheat at Scrabble and card games. She has yet to deny that she would do something so dishonest.

Name: Kane Armani (AKA Agent Kane)

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Appearance:
 Kane_Ref_Collage.jpg?width=267&height=47
6'0", 75kgs/165lbs.

Note: Kane's appearance varies due to his abilities, however he typically 'reverts' to the appearance recorded, an idealized modification of his original appearance. His clothing is usually constructed by his Gift, making it organic in nature and part of his body.

Personality: Kane is best described as a loose cannon: he is reported by his former colleagues in the Pacific Branch as being difficult to control and having a tendency to bend the rules but not outright break them. In regards to his motivations for serving with the DHA, he has been remarkably forthcoming, in that he merely wishes to sustain his own life now that he depends on demon blood to survive. When stressed or forced to restrain himself for prolonged durations, he will typically resort to excessive eating, drinking and smoking, in order of extremity. He is also bizarrely averse to wearing shirts.

Biography: Originally living in Los Angeles, Kane was previously a sufferer of Renfield's Disease, aka clinical vampirism, and reportedly obtained his powers (and cured his condition) after ingesting the blood of what he THOUGHT was an ordinary victim, but turned out to be a demon. After some time spent tracking down more demons for more blood and studying his new powers, he was approached by the DHA, who he readily agreed to work for in their Pacific Branch, which mainly involved dealing with Demons who had taken up public personas, usually as celebrities, during which his expertise in killing and his Gift proved invaluable. Unfortunately, due to an incident regarding, he has been relocated to the Northeastern division for the time being. He claims he does not understand what he did wrong.

Gift: Kane's unique Gift is referred to as Reconstruction, which allows him control over his anatomy. This is mainly used to repair bodily damage and construct organic weapons. This makes him an excellent infiltrator and combatant, but the full extent of his powers may require that he gain a more in-depth knowledge of anatomy and biology. He also possesses the basic augmentations and Sixth Sense that most other Hunters possess.

I'm Going Ghost!

Spoiler

"Driven by fear, no believing in magic saving us now
'Cause I can't make sense of what goes and what comes around
We've all learned to hide amongst ourselves"
-Belong

Battle Theme

64VMzLR.jpg

Name: Richard Sartre

Codename: Shade

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Height/Weight: 5'11"/180 cm | 155 lbs/70 kg

Personality:

Spoiler

One's first impression of Richard will be that he is generally pleasant. He is very courteous in most interactions with others and is easy to talk to. He'll speak in friendly tones and invite others to speak their mind with him. He is himself, usually very chatty as well. He remembers names and faces well, often surprising others with their name on second meeting. He has an observant eye and is quick to praise things he likes in others like a quick wit or a decisive attitude. Though, if one were to pay attention, Richard might seem just a bit too amicable. And the more one digs the more they would realize there is in fact more going on.

It starts with the subject of Richard himself. The man is incredibly skillful at deflecting questions about himself away to other topics or people. And it's not just a simple shyness to speak openly about his own experience. It is a persistent effort present in all conversations to not linger on his own past experiences and feelings. He'll share how he joined the DHA of course, and some past hunts and things like that. But always he is focused on the specifics of the events themselves and pushes away from his own thoughts or feelings on the matters. From there, one might notice that Richard's friendliness can take on a manipulative tone. He knows how to praise people to get them to do what he'd like them to. Gently encouraging someone that they are in the right yields remarkable results in terms of getting someone to commit to a course of action.

Of course, the man is no saint. It's not terribly complicated to annoy him. Obnoxiously loud noises of any variety trouble him as do particularly nosy people. One might then notice that when irritated, Richard becomes passive aggressive. He holds in remembrance years of interactions with others and will not hesitate to bring up past wrongs or failures when presented with present ideas he dislikes. When mistakes are made around him he will vocally criticize the actions without directly attacking the person's character. But it comes in something of a light-hearted manner which only brings with it the belittling he'd otherwise avoid by not calling the person in question stupid or deficient. It all seems just a touch planned, but to what end?

In truth, Richard dislikes himself. And part of this is tied to the way he tries to subtly manipulate those around him. He has no immediate reason to be this way, but he can't help himself. Because he can, he does. Because he wants to understand what makes others tick he will try to see them in all sorts of different social situations. His own attachment has to be strong to get in the way of messing with others this way. And that lack of restraint frustrates him while also giving him some sense of pleasure. Naturally, he can form legitimate bonds, but it becomes clear over time that in groups he's playing a social game.

Because of his gift, Richard has an excuse to not focus on himself. He can be anything and so he often chooses to be something other than himself. Most often this means possessing his pet Egyptian Mau Cat, named Nicholas, who is at his side at most times. But he's not particularly picky.

Biography:

Spoiler

Richard's life before getting his gift was defined by hiding. As a toddler it was hiding from an abusive father. As a child it was hiding from bullies at school. The less people noticed him the better. The less trouble it would cause him. So proficient was a young Richard at hiding that many would never realize if he had ever been in a room or not. It was helpful to be such a recluse sometimes, if a bit lonely.

Things changed for Richard at seventeen. The school had been evacuated for some reason but the boy had been off on his own, unaware of what was happening until he was already caught up in it. Before he knew what he was doing he was running for his life from a monster he could have only dreamed of. Trying to look back to comprehend it was beyond him. He needed the ultimate place to hide. All along the way the monster carved a path of destruction.

Ultimately he hid in a remote storage closet as the beast demolished the building around him looking for him. It did find him but by the time it did the building was so unsound the roof began collapsing. A metal bar pierce the demon's flesh as it loomed over Richard looking to consume him and in that fateful moment the demon blood found his lips. The strangest sensation took hold and when next he awoke he was in a room he didn't recognize, being carefully monitored by doctors he'd never seen.

Eventually the boy was told he was in DHA custody and that they would keep a close watch on him over the next few weeks. But so long as he kept silent about what had happened they wouldn't interfere with his life. Though he was sent home with a bottle of medicine. Capsules he was told to take every few days. Little was explained that day and he was left greatly confused.

But over the next year, Richard came to understand what all had happened. Who the Demon Hunter Association were, what the monster that had attacked him was, and more importantly, what his own gift was. He could possess objects, animals, people. It was amazing. But he had to consume demon blood periodically to preserve his own life at this point.

The boy gained confidence as he came to understand his gift. He didn't need to be shy about always having a place to hide. His power was perfect, he could hide in anything. Eventually friends were made but he used them as the first in a long line of experiments to see how to best get people to do what he wanted.

Now of course, Richard isn't one to talk about most of this. But most especially he won't speak of his girlfriend he had starting his senior year of high school. A long story short, she passed tragically and now the man has been a hunter for the past seven years after continually postponing the decision since the initial attack that granted him his powers. The hunter life seems to suit him fine. He has other passions of course, but he seems devoted to stopping demons when they appear.

Gift:

Spoiler

Poltergeist

Richard's gift allows him to possess objects, animals and, with their consent, people. His body will be surrounded by a shadowy aura before fading into the target. He remains aware of his surroundings while in objects and shares all sensory information with living targets. While in an object he can exert himself and levitate it about to use it for whatever purpose. In living targets he can either take over the body or allow the host to move freely. In all cases, Richard's presence in something provides a great boon of power in all forms, including the effects of other hunters' gifts.

Richard will receive all damage any living host does when he withdraws from them. When objects break he is forced out of them and injured. Of note, he won't possess humans without their consent but it is not impossible for him to do so. However he makes it based on consent because ignoring the target's will can complicate the possession process and ultimately prevent it if the target is mentally resilient. Even if it works, it can cause psychological trauma to both the intended host and himself so he avoids forced possessions where he can.

As for demons… well it's best he avoid even trying possessing one of them.

Thank LordCowCow for image help, here is the entirely redone app.

Spoiler

Name: Sera Hym

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Appearance:

Spoiler

jwjwDBC.jpg

"You think I didn't mean what I said? I meant every word! In life, if you don't make enemies, you are a coward, or worse."

6'0"

The horns are temporary, an effect of the tome juice.

Personality:

Spoiler

Sera is quick and energetic, and that speed is only matched by her eccentricity. She finds enjoyment out of the unpredictable, and tires easily of the same old same old. She likes to say simple things in more words because she thinks it makes her look smart. She is smart, but she simply isn't a fast learner. Her mind takes longer time to comprehend things. She also is impatient and restless, having to do something halfway interesting or becoming incredibly lethargic. She also says what she means, and she doesn't take anything she says back.

Her hobbies include cooking, brewing, coming up with cryptic statements, and trying to remember what she was taught by her grandfather.

Biography:

Spoiler

Sera Hym was a regular kid. Normal life, only child, single mother, living in Greenville, South Carolina, things were great. She did well enough in school, taking a particular interest in science, particularly chemistry. And then, Sera began to feel more and more paranoid. She felt like the whole world was always watching her, mocking her, laughing at her. She began to have issues sleeping at night.

The problems began to stack up. She started to become accident prone, getting cuts from nothing, tripping on air, dropping fragile items at inconvenient times, the works. It got so bad that her mother didn't let her go outside without a helmet, knee pads , and elbow pads.

It came to a head when she was 14. She was walking home from school when she was tripped, again, but this time it was different. She could almost hear something laughing. Almost instinctively, she reached out quickly to grab it. Her hand latched on to something, but it was invisible. Was.

The invisible creature's form shimmered, revealing a red skinned humanoid creature, floating above the ground, with horns and a forked tail. It's eyes were flame red, and shined with rage. It immediately wrenched Sera's hand off of it, swung it's tail around her neck, and began to strangle her to death. And she would have, if Sera's mother hadn't been there to save her. The demon was slashed in half by a ornate dagger.

Sera's mother then brought Sera home, and revealed the secret she had been keeping from her. Her Grandfather, Thomas Garheart, was alive and well, and not only that, a demon hunter no less. She was one as well, but had kept it hidden from Sera. And now, with this knowledge in Sera's hands, there was one course of action. Sera was to drink the blood of the demon and go to northern Pennsylvania to Tom's Grove, his place of research. Sera did exactly that, drinking the blood, packing everything she would need, and getting on a flight to Pennsylvania.

It has been five years since. She apprenticed under her Grandfather for most of that time, being taught how to use her powers and hunt demons. However, she then got bored of learning and not doing anything exciting, so her Granddad decided that, for the time being, she should go out and hunt some demons, get some field experience, so she was sent to work with the DHA, where she is currently.

Gift: Tainting

Spoiler

Sera's gift is all about plants. She had the ability to "taint" plants, making them grow rapidly, making twisted versions of those plants with diverse effects. Sera has learned plenty of plant's effects, and keeps a few plants or mixes on hand

Tainted Sunflower: Tainted sunflowers have orange petals and a longer, more spirally stem, and flaming seeds that they shoot out. They have two uses. One is to have a sunflower on hand to taint and use as a barrage, or harvest the seeds from a regular sunflower, and taint the seeds individually and fire them from a slingshot.

Tainted Tomato: Tainted tomato's are poisonous, plain and simple. By encountering the juice of the blood red fruit, it forces the creature that encountered it to be sapped of strength. The normal tainted plant takes advantage of it, then strangles the creature that eat it's fruit. In Sera's uses, she fills a spray bottle with it.

Tainted Rose: This crimson flower grows larger and has sharper thorns. It usually is only of use for as a weapon, it's petals growing stiff and it's stem growing pointy. This is Sera's most used items.

Tome Juice: This unstable liquid is Sera's latest creation, inspired by an idea she found in a book, hence the name. It is made with various ground up or fermented tainted plants, a variety of such is used for better results, however, the main ingredient is a gas emitted from boiling demon blood. It gives a variety of effects, depending on the way it was brewed and who drinks it. It usually creates a random change on the drinker's body, like giving them a fish tail, or bat wings, or just give you a height increase. It could be almost anything.

Extras

Spoiler

Sera has a little notebook she always has on her for notes about ideas, or the specific effects of certain plants.

Alpha Hunter

"Just because we're hunting humanity threatening beasts doesn't mean we can't have fun doing it."

Name: Erick "Ricky" Rhegor

Codename: Hunter

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Appearance

Height: 7'6"

Weight: 168 lbs.

Hair Color: Brown

Eye Color: Dark Green (Red when Gift is active)

Due to mutations caused by the ingestion of demon blood, Erick's limbs have lengthened a foot more than they originally were, giving him a very lean and lanky appearance. He also sports sharp protrusions on his shoulders, three on each shoulder and has two small horns that curve from his forehead. When out in the public eye, Erick makes sure to cover his whole body. Usually wearing a large coat or hoodie with baggy sleeves, cargo pants and leather boots, gloves to cover up his claws, and a hat to hide his horns. While at base and around his fellow demon hunters, he wears a more casual look. Getting rid of the large coat in favour of a tank top, fingerless gloves, and losing the hat. He still wears his cargo pants around base, which he keeps a variety of items in the pockets for any occasion.

Personality

Erick can be described as a very calm and collected individual, never speaking in a loud tone. He isn't one for pessimism and always tries to keep a positive outlook on life, even now when his life has been completely changed. He even enjoys the occasional chat with his fellow demon hunters, cheering them up when they're down, or just talking to talk. At times, he can be found just reading a book outside or just enjoying the day as a whole. But during a hunt, he goes completely and eeriely quiet, his focus completely fixed on his target, his prey. He doesn't tend to come out of this state unless someone is in deep trouble, or if his target has been killed.

Biography

Erick was originally a simple hunter living out in the woods with his buddy, Taylor. They would hunt together and bring back food and furs that they would either keep or sell for money. One day while at the cabin, Erick was watching everything while Taylor went out to hunt. However, Taylor never came back, and after a full day had passed, Erick decided to go look for him. Along the trail, he found many animal carcasses, none were eaten and we're just mauled to death. He soon came upon Taylor's body, which had been torn in half, with an enormous bear-like creature standing over it.

Erick was horrified at the sight, but before he could think of what to do, the creature charged at him and knocked him to the ground. He tumbled and fell onto his back, the creature looming above him, preparing to pounce. Erick quickly pulled out his machete and he stabbed at the creature as it fell on him. Blood splattered everywhere, some even getting in Erick's mouth, but he didn't care. His adrenaline kicked in and it was either him or the beast that took his friend. The struggle seemed to last forever, until the beast finally fell limp to the ground. Blood surrounded the area and Erick was left alone to his thoughts.

A week had passed since the incident, a fresh grave with a large stone marking it was all he could do for Taylor. A couple of men had arrived at his cabin and had introduced themselves as fellow hunters, not of animals, but of demons. They explained that the creature that Erick had killed had been infected with demonic blood, which it had infected him with. And he was given a choice, either die alone due to his reliance on demon blood, or join them in hunting other demons to protect mankind. Erick's choice was obvious. Before he left, he took one last look at his small hunting cabin and stabbed his machete beside Taylor's grave. Where he was going, what he was going to hunt, he was going to need better tools.

Gift

Blood of the Hunt

When Erick  gets a taste of a Target's blood, his hunting instincts kick into overdrive. Through smell, sight, and/or hearing, he becomes an extremely effective tracker. The effectiveness of this tracking depends on the amount of the target's blood he has consumed and can wear off within minutes unless he consumes more blood. He can use this to get an edge in combat, allowing him to deal with hidden enemies.

Name: Maybelle "Wrangler" Anderson

Age: 25

Gender: Female

Appearance:

a49f354871115ae53a1aea56b81ce2a6.png

It's hard to tell Maybelle's exact height, but she's just shy of 5'10" in her boots, so an educated guess would lead you to believe she's about 5'7". That is, if you ever saw her not in her boots, which is unlikely. Truth is, Maybelle is about as stereotypical as it comes when it comes to the "cowboy" look: very rarely will you see Maybelle in something that isn't a variety of shirts, vests, and coats used by cowboys to protect themselves from the sun, snakes, and other critters that could snap up at you. If she was in the mood to lounge, she quite enjoys the northeastern leisure wear worn by the locals: loose cotton shirts and some baggy sweatpants are unusual, but a fun change of looks.

Her long orange hair is typically tied into a tight braid that can be easily managed to rest right above her shoulders. This is in contrast to her pale blue eyes, which are common for people with her hair. Her nose is slightly deviated to the right from one too many bare knuckle brawls with crooks, and she has a few scratches and pocks in her skin from living a rougher life than your average person. Notably, her right ear is missing a small chunk from the outer edge. Ask her all about it; it comes from one of her favorite stories.

Personality:

"Wild West? Son, this rodeo might be a bit too steep a hassle for you if this'n right here's wild. I'd turn hide and make like one of them jackrabbits before things get ugly round here."

Maybelle is one of those folks who does not get caught up in the intricacies of things; she'd rather leave that kind of debate and thought to the doctors and the folks in charge. She'll call things as she sees them and from there, you can just let her know when the shooting starts. In that way, Maybelle can be a bit dry, but it is very obvious, once you've spent some time with her, that she doesn't take up many hobbies, but the hobbies she's chosen she is rather passionate about. While she might lack in academic debate, Maybelle is easy to talk to, and she won't deny you a conversation or an ear, even if she doesn't like you much. The problem is, she might just go ahead and let you know she doesn't like you much. Still, she is loyal to the core, and has a tendency to put the job above her own needs. Not so far to the point where she would risk life and limb, but far enough that she can deal with a great amount of discomfort without a peep.

Biography: "Demon's Blood? What in tarnation? Some kind of fancy upstate liquor or something? Can't possibly be worth all this damn money, Ray."

What started as a simple, albeit illegal, contraband acquisition and transportation gig, ended in Maybelle playing out her fantasies as some kind of newfangled monster hunter, scouring the Northeast in search of their next "meal" before things get dire. It was not always this way, but "like momma used to tell me, the world works in mysterious ways. That's why we country folk like to focus on the small stuff."

It all started in Western Pennsylvania, in a town where things got settled how things used to get settled, back in the olden days: pistols at dawn, and thirsty saloons where the crooks and coppers would drink alike until one of them raised a gun after a dishonest game of hold 'em. In that type of town, you're one of two things: a cop, or a robber. Maybelle finished her time in that small town as the latter, and found herself running contraband for a long time with her close friend Ray, another good for nothing crook that she would be hard pressed to trade the world for.

It was a hard life, but at the same time it was simple: he would run point, do most of the talking, and grab the goods. Maybelle was there to do the talking, too, but her method usually involved the ending of her twin revolvers. She would dress all pretty to keep the boys' attention, and drop the hammer when her buddy was in trouble. As long as you could deal with getting shot at twice a week on a good week, it was quite relaxing. She was content to do it forever. The only problem was their boss; much like any commoner job, they hated their bosses, who seemingly got more of the reward for less of the work. That would change, they thought, when Ray snagged their latest big shipment: Demon's Blood. Rumor was you drank it to be imbued with some sort of power. Maybelle didn't much buy into the hype, but she figured she would do it if Ray was this convinced about it, and the rest really is history more or less.

The job hardly changed, although now they were hunting demons down and drinking their blood as opposed bringing drugs from one cokehead to another. There was still plenty of being shot at and hunted down, and word was that there was some sort of organization that was willing to take in folks like Maybelle and Ray, which she was told was good news for the two hunters. Something about being on the inside, and that they'd be hunted soon if they didn't get something sorted out. She trusted her partner in crime, she just hoped that didn't mean the shooting was about to stop. She was just starting to get used to this whole "lasso" thing that strange blood had given her.

Gift: Maybelle has been blessed (or cursed, depending on who you ask) with the power of an incredibly strong "rope" that spawn from her hand at will. She prefers it in the form of a lasso, and can use it to tear down things much larger than her human strength would ever be capable of. It's what gave her the codename "Wrangler" in the business, and she wouldn't have it any other way.

Rags to Riches

Spoiler

https://imgur.com/undefined x6oqqJe.png
"Don't be so mad! It ain't personal, just business."

Name: Ray "The Rat" Ramirez
Age: 23
Gender: Male

Appearance

Spoiler

https://imgur.com/lsW22TE lsW22TE.png

Ray has always been a bit of a runt - it's part of his nickname, after all. He stands at a rather short 5'4". He wears a dark navy blue coat over his white dress shirt and slacks, and can almost always be seen wearing his fancy hat. He also wears a navy blue tie and gloves. Before getting his gift, Ray used to have dark brown hair and hazel eyes, but now sports silver hair and golden eyes that glow whenever he uses his gift.

Personality

Spoiler

Ray is, for lack of better words, a cunning little bastard. He's always plotting and scheming; always a step ahead or two of everyone else. He's very careful with his words, never truly telling the whole truth. After all, he learned very early on that people shouldn't be trusted unless they earn it. As far as he's concerned, the world is out to get him, so he has to get the world first. Deception and backstabbing are his bread and butter, only truly being honest with the few people he can trust. This is why, despite him being social and talkative, very few people get to see what goes on in his mind. His paranoia and need to act first has lead to people giving him his alias of "The Rat"

Having needed to trick and manipulate people at a young age, Ray became pretty good at it. He always tells people what they want to hear, and can act like a kiss ass if it means getting what he needs. He'll do many things to get the things he wants to get; once he sets his mind on something, there isn't much that can convince him that it's a bad idea. He tends to think of himself as the smartest man in the room, even if it might not be true.

Biography

Spoiler

Ray was born to the street, being orphaned and left to fend for himself in the alleys of Western Pennsylvania, a wild rootin' tootin' town of crime and vigilantes. Coming from basically nothing, Ray quickly learned the ways of the streets. After all, they have much to teach if you're willing to learn. From casual pick pocketing to shop lifting, Ray got his hands on anything he needed the only way he knew how. As he matured, so too did his crimes. It didn't take long before he added scamming people to the list - with his quick wit and silver tongue, he was pretty good at it. It didn't take long before he rubbed shoulders with other people and, before he knew it, he had a little gig going.

Him and the only person he'd consider a friend, Maybelle, were partners in crime working to get various kinds of contraband. They made for quite a duo - he was the brains, she was the brawn. She was a very simple women with a weird cowboy thing going on, but Ray didn't mind. In fact, her simplicity and loyalty stood out among the sea of crime they lived in, making her one of the few people in this world that he actually trusted. Of course, not at first, but over time he let his guard down around her.

However, live wasn't all dandy running contraband the way they had for so long. They were, to put it lightly, getting a much smaller cut than he would have liked. The thought of sticking his neck out how he was for some bastard in a suit to profit off him rubbed him the wrong way - it always had, but he had to bid his time with the job. He knew this job wasn't the end of his career - he had made too many enemies to have his crime career stop here. Of course, unlike his boss, he talked to his clients and fellow runners, and people talk. He heard rumors about this Demon Blood stuff, as in the blood of actual demons. It was some crazy shit, but there was simply too much buzz and weird coincidences to ignore.

So, on one of their runs, Ray managed to get his hands on some of this crazy stuff. It was hard to believe, not only that demons existed but their blood could grant supernatural abilities, but he was sure this would work. Of course, he got some for his partner in crime - he wasn't about to leave her in this shitty line of work, especially not after dragging her into it.

Cutting to now, his work isn't much different. There was a lot he didn't know about this blood stuff when he took it that he wished he knew, although whether or not it would change his decision is a different story. However, instead of talking to and getting into spats with coke fiends, he was now talking and fighting against actual fiends. The pay was also much nicer, which was always a plus.

Oh, and being able to shoot goddamn lightning out of his hands was pretty cool.

Gift

Spoiler

Zeus Ex Machina

Ray's gift, alongside what comes standard with the Demon Blood Initiate Package, grants him the ability to shoot and control lightning from his body. He can fire off bolts of lightning, fire a stream of electricity from his body, and even levitate using his lightning powers. He can also control the lightning to a certain degree, making it bend or creating a field of electricity around his body. He can also send a current through anything that can conduct electricity.

Sanada Masako

Personality: So she's a gyaru. In all seriousness, the idea that she herself is bubbly is a pretty fun pair to her demonic gift, I imagine this is no accident. Overly aggressive is a fun trait to see in female characters, and this is no exception. Really has no complaints from me here.
Biography: Fairly straightforward. DHA brother roping her into things. Not completely sure how someone stated to be a prodigy would be backed into a corner by what I assume to be C-class at the highest, but I'm fine handwaving it. Kinda funny that the US DHA has multiple Japanese operatives, almost like this forum is full of fucking weeaboos.
Demonic Gift: I honestly see no real reason why she shouldn't be able to make blood bubbles, at the very least from her own blood or blood that has been shed. It's certainly macabre, but this RP is basically the hammiest, edgiest thing the forum has to offer, so it wouldn't be out of place. Otherwise seems interesting. I happen to be quite a fan of bubbles, given a certain manga I'm fond of.

Derick Fujiyoshi

Personality: Wow. I'm glad I was able to make the push for him to have the codename Edge, because boy is it fitting. I am a little confused, as it says he is unrecognizable from the person he once was, while immediately saying afterward that his sense of honor is intact. Those two things seem mutually exclusive to me. His general unfriendliness could cause issues in interaction, but if handled well could be fun to work with.
Biography: Relatively standard. I find it a little bit odd that a demon would out and out refer to oneself as such, but every case is different so it certainly isn't unheard of. Seeing the effect of demon blood compelling humans to drink it is really neat. The final goal of destroying all demon hunters along with the demons is a bit… well, depending on how public with it he is it might not earn him many friends, but I like the idea behind it overall.
Demonic Gift: Sick as hell. Whoever came up with it must be some kind of genius.

Kira Zemlya

Personality: Kira is a character I'm already familiar with. Relatively normal, but with some dark shadows swirling around in her head. I think she would act quite well as a "straight man" to most of the more bizarre cast we have.
History: Demon stalker. Alright. Sure. One of the backstories that doesn't include the character killing a demon before receiving the gift, which would make sense for an average person for Kira. The fact that she had no agency in attaining the demonic gift clearly has a part in her disdain for it.
Demonic Gift: I mean… it's super strength. There really isn't too much to it. The upper limits of her capability haven't really been explored too much, so that could be really interesting to see as things progress.

Vera Zophia

Personality: Fucking hell she's depressing. That being said, she has about a million avenues for growth as a result of being so damn broken. Her difficulties in… everything have potential to make IC interaction very difficult, but if it is handled properly I believe it will be really enriching for every character in the RP.
Biography: It's good.
Demonic Gift: It has been brought up a few times that this gift borders on useless for a large portion of time. And yup, it sure does. But I think that's okay. Though the potential to be a Swiss army knife is frightening, I'm keeping close personal tabs on the ideas behind her capability, to make sure nothing runs too amok.

Dayna Miller

fucking garbage, get this shit out of my RP

Kane Armani

Personality: Okay, a lot to unpack. I don't really understand Kane, if I am being honest. Though this branch of DHA is very accepting of those that the association would normally try to exterminate, this feels like it could potentially be too extreme. I am trying to understand the dichotomy between being both a sadomasochistic hedonist serial killer and being friendly and sociable and respecting the chain of command. Murder hobo spooks me.
Biography: So, the idea of casually drinking blood of murder victims and accidentally drinking that of a demon is admittedly hilarious. I think Yui and I are going to need some more information about what happened at the previous branch, it's fine if you want it to stay quiet.
Demonic Gift: I think this needs some restrictions. I'm fine with parasyte esque fleshy weapons, but I'm leery of the potential to full-on shapeshift.

I'm also in charge so I should review apps too.

Masako "Bubblegum" Sanada - Chaos Sonic

Spoiler

Practical fashion sense is a good first impression now that I'm reading this more in-depth. The personality makes me glad that my clairvoyant powers told me that it wasn't a good idea to recycle Morgan again for this iteration of Demon Blood, because Masako perfectly fits the mold that she would have gone into, and it comes off as a personality I would have written. Which clearly means it's shit. Masako strikes me as the type that can and probably will chat it up with the rest of the cast, turning her into a good glue to stick an outlier to the rest of the cast with if need be. Speaking of glue, her Gift is simple, but versatile, and the means by which she got it is certainly an interesting turn I didn't consider. Akeru being reprimanded for bringing Masako into this world is a nice little touch I didn't notice the first time I read this app, and it checks out.

If this were an RP to be taken more seriously like, I would have to question why Masako was barred entry into the DHA when she already drank the blood, but this is a Yui RP where we don't worry about the small stuff like that. Probably just wasn't allowed to kick it in the national branch back in Japan with her brother and subsequently decided "fuck it, I'll go across the ocean then" is what I imagine, but again, we don't worry about the small stuff. Bio is put together quite well as is personality, and I'm pretty fond of the gift. Echoing cohost's sentiments that blood bubbles would be cool as hell.

Patton "Gungnir" Grisaille - (JoJo)

Spoiler

wow imagine not even putting your gift in your app what sort of loser does that

Derick "Edge" Fujiyoshi - Mr. Hyde

Spoiler

Unlike (cohost), I understand what the deal is with being unrecognizable from cheery kendo enthusiast but still having your honor intact. Derick's personality is edgy to the point of hilarity, like some meme-tier deviantart OC or something. If you had tried to only use a reasonable amount of edge, I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much as with this personality. His idea of killing all demons and then all hunters is certainly an interesting one, and I want to see how that plays out in the long term. It should be interesting, to say the least. Convincing you to name his father's rival Ryouma has also age very well. Speaking of Ryouma, it's a special level of fucked to not only kill a guy at a sporting event, but then taunt the dude's kid about it. I dig it. The bio never states outright that one of Derick's two demons were him, so we can probably do something with that at some point in the RP.

Moving on to his gift, this is something I know you and (cohost) talked about since I left balance issues in his hands. Pretty pleased with what the two of you came up with after super speed was brought up as something that could be problematic. Pretty lengthy cooldown at present, but justifiably so since Blink is pretty powereful and also super flashy. Looking forward to seeing you come up with some creative uses for that.

Kira "Fissure" Zemlya - LordCowCow

Spoiler

Kira is still Kira. I feel like there's new details, especially in the misc spoiler? I don't remember mentions of jogging or cooking before, but it might just be because it's been a while. Still Kira, I appreciate the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach.

Vera "Tierra" Zofia - Just Blake

Spoiler

Giant boner for secret bios aside, my sentiments just about echo (cohost)'s. Vera is impressively broken as a human being, but at the same time this means the ways in which she can have a character development arc are just as impressively numerous. I'm interested in seeing how she handles the conflicts this RP will inevitably present her with, be they plot related or simply interpersonal problems with other hunters in the player cast. The main concern is her Gift, as while I admire trading a powerful ability for Vera not really being a functional human being, if and when she gets a handle on herself and learns to control her emotions instead of letting them control her, she'll become quite the force to be reckoned with. That's also not addressing the point that she'll no doubt develop new abilities tied to other emotions should she experience them to sufficient extremities.

Dayna Miller - Yui

Spoiler

wait that's me

Kane "Agent Kane" Armani - ChampionZero

Spoiler

Having put off app reviews a bit to wait for you to update your Gift, I can say the wait was well worth it. A regenerator man who can create weapons out of his body is pretty cool. There are probably still some means to improve this app, but this is by far my favorite bio out of the lot we've got simply because of how he wound up with demon blood completely on accident thinking it was just an average joe's blood. I see you've also tweaked his bio and personality some, and while I will miss off-brand Sweeney Todd, it's probably for the better that we don't have a serial killer on our hands. Overall not the strongest app we've got, but pretty solid stuff. I like it.

Richard "Shade" Sartre - Doggo

Spoiler

This app has a lot to digest, which is both a blessing and a curse. Starting with his personality, Richard has a personality that sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of the cast of other sore thumbs, which is good. The fact that I've seen all these apps and we have distinctly different personalities for all of them is a great sign for the RP itself. He'll probably end up having beef with some of the more inquisitive or pushy types within this RP, and interpersonal beef among the players' characters is a good thing that helps an RP move forward while the hosting team tries to figure out what we're supposed to do next. And with anyone with whom he has no beef, Richard certainly seems like a friend to all in his own little ways, even if he's just seeing what he can get people to do by being nice. This tactic will certainly be interesting to see in how it works with the ladies of the cast.

Biography is nice and detailed, and flows quite smoothly to today. It mentions he has other passions, but I see no mention of what those are in the app unless I'm missing them. This sounds like a nitpick, but it's actually quite the opposite; it gives everyone something to wonder about until it gets brought up in the RP. Gives him some good and some bad, and that's important. I like it. What I like most about this app though, is his gift. It's a supportive type thing that seems to have had a lot of thought put behind it and how its balance should work, and the concept behind is is pretty neat. Not something that would work in most RPs I reckon, but this is not most RPs.

Good stuff, and worth the wait.

Sera Hym - JellisOP

Spoiler

I brought this app up with you more privately almost a week ago. Simply put, there's a lot of points of concern with Sera. To recap, "smart to the point of being wacky" is a personality type just begging for trouble on various levels, and various personality quirks seem like they either don't work with each other or flat-out contradict other parts of the app. The heirloom dagger is a bit odd, the notes from grandpa would probably get him kicked out of the DHA at best, and it seems like you're just making plants up for the purpose of describing some stuff she can make with her gift? Overall, it comes off as something where the idea was "quirky for the sake of quirky", and in its current state, I don't think I'd be able to accept Sera. However, you did mention that you were going to address all of the points I brought up by more or less fully revamping the character, and I'm still looking forward to what you come up with on that front.

Erick "Hunter" Rhegor - Wind Rider

Spoiler

God, I haven't seen the "calm dude does the full 180 in battle" cliche in so long that it almost feels refreshing to see it again. Not much else to address on personality since there isn't really much else to say, but I'll come back round to that first point a bit later. Bio is actually fairly solid. Bear kills demon, bear gets blood, Erick kills bear and gets blood. Pretty straightforward stuff, and then welcome to DHA, kid. His gift is where I come back round to my bit from the start of this review, since it's probably the cause of it. The way I'm understanding it is he gets a whiff of blood and then his senses kick into overdrive? And then the last sentence says that he has to consume it directly even though the start of it says smelling it also counts? One of these things is significantly harder to do than the other, so some clarification is needed. You get a passing grade, but just barely.

Maybelle "Wrangler" Anderson - Cappuccijoe

Spoiler

Imma be real with you chief, the whole cowboy shtick is funny as hell to me, and it only became more so when I realized she's probably from Pennsylvania upon reading this app a second time. Personality is simple, but gets to the point, much like Maybelle herself, and I like what I'm seeing. Biography is likewise pretty straightforward: Maybelle grew up, turned to a life of crime with her bestie Ray by running contraband, and they drank a shipment of demon blood and turned to a life of killing demons before realizing they could go legit and still keep doing it. What I really like about Maybelle though, is her lasso gift. At a glance, having a super rope doesn't seem that impressive, but its applications are mostly limited by your imagination despite being so simple. Whoever came up with that gift must be really good at making powers. It would be criminal of me to only accept one of the two from the Maybelle & Ray pair, but luckily, I see no reason to turn down either one as-is.

Ray "The Rat" Ramirez - REP ?

Spoiler

A deceptive bastard, but in the exact opposite flavor from Richard. That's what Ray is, and having both of them in the cast is sure to lead to shenanigans, I can feel it. What I like a lot about his bio - and Maybelle's by extension - is that you can read them both and it doesn't feel like you're reading the same thing twice. They're distinctly personal biographies that acknowledge the other person's existence without leaving the character incapable of functioning without the other. Out of the two, I think I like Ray's bio a bit more, but I also know Joe had some trouble getting his app spiced up before the soft deadline I set in the discord chat, so I'm going to chalk it up at least partially to that.

There's also the matter of his gift, and the stupid-ass pun for its name. You glorious bastard. He shoots lightning, and that's cool. Good shit.

Is there room for one more?

The Walking Solar Battery

Spoiler

Name: Alice “Sunbeam” Gates

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Appearance:

Spoiler

e313e9d48cce5af2ad428d0c5e147c1c.jpg

Height: 5' 9"

Personality:

Spoiler

Alice is a girl of few words. She’s quiet, and does not input much into conversations unless she has to. Not that she doesn’t have an opinion, but she chooses not to share it. Due to constantly being overshadowed by her parents’ long work hours and the high standard set by her sister, she tries to stay out of the spotlight, sometimes deeming herself unworthy to be in it. She gives her actions and words a lot of forethought.

Alice cares deeply for other people, and will do whatever she can to help another person with whatever they need. She thrives off of seeing people happy, often willing to sacrifice her own happiness to help. As such, she can be easily taken advantage of. Sometimes she’s aware of this, but not often.

Biography:

Spoiler

Born in the heart of Brooklyn, New York, Alice lived as the youngest in a family of four. Not much of a risk taker, Alice didn’t live too exciting of a childhood. Most of her life was overshadowed by her ever-busy parents’ work and the successes of her older sister. Alice was never as athletic or smart as her sister. While her sister cruised through high school and ended up at a prestigious university, Alice didn’t. She decided on a community college where she could stay in the area she grew up in.

Coming home after a university event one evening, Alice realized she left her key inside, and reached for the spare under her door mat, only to find that it wasn’t there. She heard a scratching noise around the corner, and went to investigate, assuming a rodent took her key for some reason. Instead, there was a horrifying creature huddled in the alleyway corner holding her key - something that was difficult to physically describe with words. It rushed over to her and tackled her, its bony figure now looming over Alice’s panicked body. She instinctively grabbed a shard of glass on the ground and stabbed the creature in the neck. Its blood dripped onto her clothes and face, with a large spurt getting into her mouth. The creature grabbed her by the neck. Alice screamed. Everything around her began to feel warm; the creature recoiled in pain and let go of Alice. The stench of burned flesh wafted through the air as the creature scaled up the building in retreat.

“This isn’t happening…” she said, her voice as loud as a gunshot.

Maybe I’m dreaming. Yeah, that’s it.

She reached for her key on the ground, but passed out before she could grab it. Next thing Alice knew, she was… somewhere. Definitely not her room. More like an infirmary. Some people came to her bedside and explained everything.

Demons. Real? It can’t be. But what was that… thing last night? I don’t know what’s going on. Maybe they’re helping me get better. You know, fixing… whatever the hell is wrong with me.

Gift:

Spoiler

Photovoltaic

Alice’s body absorbs and stores sunlight, and can convert it into other forms of energy. She’s able to tap into this stored energy to do a number of things such as generating heat and light from her body, strengthening her physical capabilities, and firing beams of pure solar energy. These can occur at varying intensities depending on how much energy she’s stored. However, if she uses too much energy at once or if she spends too much time away from sunlight, she will begin to feel tired and drained. Alice can also use her abilities to strengthen others, albeit to a much smaller degree than she can do for herself. To do this, there has to be direct contact between her and the person she wants to give energy to.

When she is actively using the energy she stored, her eyes become a vivid orange color.

Room for two?

Bloody Mess

Spoiler

Name: Aethelred, formerly known as Howard Temperance Carter

Age: 26

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Spoiler

f6ac533c43d43a0f4f1d4e010f6583e72148829d

Approximately 6’0”. He's usually wearing a mad grin instead of a serious expression.

Personality:

Spoiler

Howard is a joyful and hedonistic person, mainly motivated by the quest for novel and extreme experiences. While no longer a mean-spirited alcoholic, he appears to not be of sound mind after his close brush with death. By most standards, Howard has a manic personality addled by his bad reaction with demon’s blood and his friend’s poison, lacking the attention span that helped him in his education. His taste for cruelty has been warped into a masochistic drive for dangerous activities. While he mainly lives like each day is his last, ever seeking his next adrenaline rush, he occasionally has moments of clarity after consuming demon’s blood or a large amount of human blood. In these rare moments, the old Howard seems to come forth, repentant of his past but unable to escape the persona that the demon’s blood had made for him.

Biography:

Spoiler

Howard was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, being the son of the wealthy Carter family that made its fortune in the petrochemical industry. Despite being provided every toy and contrivance that a boy could want, Howard distinguished himself as being mature for his age, preferring his parents pay for new experiences instead. As he grew into adulthood, Howard proved himself to be a charismatic and intelligent playboy, gaining the reputation as a well-rounded intellectual as well as a lady killer amongst New England high society. On the surface, Howard was on track to be a worthy heir of his family’s fortune.

However, those close to him knew that Howard was not as he appeared. Rumors slowly spread of a significant streak of cruelty and decadence in Howard’s behavior behind closed doors. He enjoyed playing cruel pranks on his friends and lacked empathy towards animals. He was also an alcoholic, being known to be a violent drunk. These rumors redoubled themselves when he killed his friend’s black cat and had it stuffed as a decoration for that friend’s Halloween party. Wanting to take revenge, this friend and several conspirators arranged to kill him.

When Howard was holding a private event in his family’s mansion for his 25th birthday, his friend poisoned the house vintage which Howard boasted about saving for a special event. Little did they know, but Howard had mixed the wine with what he was told was demon’s blood, hoping for a strange psychedelic experience not knowing its true effects. Upon drinking it, Howard quickly fell unconscious, foaming at the month. By the time he reached the hospital, he was pronounced dead. His parents, suspecting foul play after finding strange substances in the wine he had drank, had his body sent for a private autopsy. However, his body never arrived and would never be recovered, only leaving behind two disemboweled ambulance drivers. Upon realizing his new abilities, he cut his ties with his family, seeking new experiences with his abilities. He was caught and pressed into service of the DHA after he was caught at the end of a string of strange assaults and public disturbances in the New England area.

Gift: Sanguinity

Spoiler

Howard’s body has unnaturally increased capabilities of regeneration, allowing him to almost instantly recover from minor injuries such as cuts and bruises, but also allowing him to survive injuries, poisons and diseases that would ravage the average human. As such, Howard is almost always in peak health. Along with the regenerative effects of his gift, the gift also gives him increased speed, strength and agility, often matching the abilities of professional athletes despite doing little physical training. Strangely, Howard often describes the regeneration process “an exquisitely sublime experience”, often driving him to seek out risky activities that may injure him.

His gift also allows him to absorb blood through his skin, mainly but not limited to his hands. After consuming or absorbing blood, Howard experiences a brief surge of his abilities, giving him increased strength and regeneration capabilities for a duration based on the amount of blood absorbed. This effect is more pronounced with creatures that more closely resemble humans, with the most dramatic effects coming from demon blood. To best take advantage of his abilities, Howard tends to favor “messy” weapons, such as shotguns and blades, that cause his targets to bleed as much as possible. However, Howard’s gift seems to require more demon blood infusions than other gifts. Howard claims that his need for demon blood can be sated temporarily by ingesting the blood from other creatures, but before joining the DHA, he has experienced delirium and psychosis when he has not absorbed demon blood for long periods of time.

Quick reviews and an announcement. There's a hard deadline for apps set in place now. On Saturday, 20th of May me and (cohost) will be giving everything a second look and figuring out our finalized cast. Anything you want to change, do it before then. Now then, those (short) reviews for our newcomer apps.

Alice "Siren" Gates - CatmanDaGamer

Spoiler

Overall hits a firm middle with me. Very standard and normal girl, which honestly isn't a bad thing within the madhouse of a cast we're looking at right now. No strong feelings one way or the other, but her gift is very much going to be a problem in team-based situations. Which, theoretically, will be most if not all of them.

Howard "Aethelred" Carter - Otaku-sama

Spoiler

When Kane was first posted, Champ was politely informed that the crazed murderous bastard he was at first would be problematic in the cast from a logistics standpoint. I'm going to echo that sentiment very firmly in Howard, in fact to a higher degree. Despite Kane being the serial killer of the two, he seemed to be even less of a liability in personality than Howard is. Since much of his bio relies on Howard being the absolute fuckbastard he is, I'll skip over that. Gift is neat I suppose?
