Yu-Gi-Oh! Cosmic Path [OOC/PG-16/Not Accepting/Starting Soon]

Recommended Posts

cosmicpathbannerpotentialfinal.png

In the not-so-distant future, Duel Monsters has continued to work towards its latest and greatest evolution! Each of the headlining events of the past, such as Action Duels, Turbo Duels, and even Deck Masters are the headlining events of major tournaments for the world’s most popular sport, with duelists specializing in each! But the real stars are those who participate in Team Duels, matches that feature multiple types of duels at a time!

You are a member of a team in the Minor Circuit of the World Duel Monsters Organization. Formed while you attended college in Seattle, WA, your group came together over a flier for a Duel Monsters team, though it was never anything serious… Just some duels for fun here, there, wherever, particularly against groups from different colleges. That is, until you were approached by a manager who saw the talent your group exhibited, and offered you a chance to form a team. With the official team being newly formed, your first order of business will be to give your team a name. After that, it’s off to the races!

Where your journey into the world of Professional Dueling will take you is anyone’s guess… But what you do know is that a new path has opened before you.

Rules + General Info

Spoiler

Basic rules apply.
Don’t be a dick. No, seriously. Causing trouble is grounds for you being kicked, warning or not.
I reserve the right to control your character as needed for the plot, if I must. However, I would greatly prefer not to.

This is an AU. Neither original Yu-Gi-Oh! Universe(s), nor our current world.

This will end up having some Sports Anime vibes to it, and there will be a good amount of focus on the relationships between the six members of the team. There may or may not be an overarching story that ends in saving the world (I’ll never tell), but the vast majority will focus on the matches the team has trying to build a name for themselves as they steadily work their way up to the Major Circuit.

Master Rule NEO

In the current Duel Monsters format, Pendulums are not limited by Link Monsters, and the Pendulum Zones have been moved back to their original location. Otherwise, it is the same as Master Rule 2020.

Action Duels
A duel monster format that specializes in mobility and clever deck building for utility. In this format, players have the ability to explore an environment created by a field spell card that is activated at the start of the duel, changing each time. Action Cards are scattered about, with effects that can either help or harm the player that picks it up. Each player can only pick up one Action Card per turn.

Turbo Duels
Card Games on Motorcycles. This alternate format has a resource system for Speed Spells, more powerful spells that require Speed Counters as a threshold or cost to activate. Each turn, players gain 2 Speed Counters, going from 0 to 12 over time. There are cards that exist that can accelerate this resource gain, as well as ways to spend it. Each duel begins with the activation of Speed World 3, a spell that gives players an active use for the counters. Speed World 3 is identical to Speed World 2, but it does not ban non-Speed Spells.

Standard Duels
Also called Standing Duels, these duels have nothing that stands out about them. Instead, the duelists themselves tend to have a higher level of technical skill than the rest of their teams, standing out as paragons of Duel Monsters itself.

Deck Masters
A special rule that is not always invoked. In these duels, players will select a single card from their Main Deck to serve as your deck master. Each deck master has a special ability that can apply or be used from outside the game, they can be placed on the field (not summoned) once per game, and if they leave the field, except as material, you lose the game. If they leave the field as material, the new monster becomes your deck master. Each player has a registered deck master with the deck they use.

Teams
Most teams consist of 6 members. 2 Action Duelists, 2 Turbo Duelists, and 2 Standard Duelists. However, there are notable exceptions, such as the current top team in the world, Team Trifecta, has only 3.

More added later. Probably.

Application

Spoiler

Before we get into the App itself, there are a couple important things to go over, in regards to it.

The first is that each character can only use 1 type of summoning method at the start, out of Fusions, Rituals, Synchros, Xyz, and Pendulum. I will most likely be taking Link Monsters, and playing the leader of the team. That is not to say I am playing the Main Character, only the designated senior member.

Despite this, I greatly encourage decks that can branch off into multiple summoning types. After all, the more you bond with your teammates, the more you’ll learn about yourself and/or them... and the more your deck can evolve with you.

The next thing is the role your character takes. As stated, there are only 2 slots per role, so try to discuss it with other players in the discord chat, as well as keep in mind what has already been posted app-wise, so as not to bite off more than you can chew.

Also, please place your app in a spoiler. I know that’s generally accepted, but figured I would cover my bases.

Haunted Friend of the Outback

Spoiler

Name: Katherine Lee

Age: 19

Birthday: April 14

Role: Action

Appearance: Katherine is 6’ 1” tall. She has blonde hair. Her arm lights, battery shoulder pad, and duel disk can be placed with any outfit she chooses, but she typically wears a sweatshirt and sweatpants.

kIX5bGUYc_gv7YfqS0XrPBjYxTyP78G63O_Js3Fl

Personality: Katherine is a friendly, albeit shy person. She normally comes across as very withdrawn and polite, but as people get to know her, she gradually opens up to them. While presenting a calm facade to most of those around her, Katherine is actually a very emotional person, keeping all of her emotions inside until she can’t take them anymore, at which point she either experiences an emotional outburst or fainting event. She only expresses her true feelings with close friends or family. Katherine doesn’t take very many risks, mainly because of her condition, but she is also naturally a little bit risk-averse. Despite this, Katherine would do anything for her close friends, even if it means risking her life. Katherine suffers from crippling self-doubt and survivor’s guilt because of the death of her friends from middle school.

Katherine’s trauma makes her somewhat withdrawn, making her more likely to want to stay at home and read, browse the internet, watch anime/tv, or play video games instead of actively trying to make new friends. However, when she has friends, Katherine tries to hang out as much as possible, as she feels more comfortable with groups she trusts than just in her dorm by herself.

Katherine’s nervousness to express her emotions with words has led to her color-coding her emotions using her arm lights. Yellow lights are her default state and happiness, red lights represent anger, blue lights represent sadness, purple lights represent panic, pink lights represent afraid, orange lights represent surprise, and green lights represent embarrassment. She only tells what her arm lights actually represent to those close to her.

Biography: Katherine was born in Australia, specifically near Sydney. She has an unusual disability which has defied medical explanation: she faints when she gets excessively stressed, scared, or upset. This disorder is compounded by Katherine’s emotional nature, making Katherine especially at risk of fainting from tense situations. Katherine’s disorder influenced her parents’ decision to enroll her into her school’s special needs program, despite her relative lack of problems with academic situations. Katherine was frequently bullied for her presence in the special needs program, which led her to faint, which led to more bullying, and so on and so forth. This led Katherine to have nearly no friends and ultimately led her to try and remain as calm as possible, leading her to hide her emotions from everyone except her own parents.

Katherine’s life began to turn around when she first discovered Duel Monsters when she was 8. The game provided an escape from the stressful environment of school and provided a way to make friends through dueling. Katherine started with a basic Cyber Dragon deck and gradually got more and more cards and became a fairly skilled duelist. She ended up making a small group of close friends during middle school. Life was looking up for Katherine, and she was feeling more confident than ever before. Then came the epidemic.

Katherine and her friend group caught a particularly dangerous disease, with Katherine falling into a coma for a few days. By the time she had awoken, she was the last member of her friend group spared by the virus that had led to her falling ill. Katherine had to remain in the hospital for 2 more days from shock. This massive amount of trauma led Katherine to become even more closed off and distant than before, always seeming calm at the surface, despite the turbulent self-doubt beneath. Throughout high school, Katherine kept her calm facade despite dealing with significant mental health issues. It was during her freshman year that she received her first Crane Curtain cards from a new expansion, and she began playing Duel Monsters again, making some new friends despite her past experiences. At the end of her senior year, Katherine was at her most “healthy” point mentally post-trauma, starting to find new coping mechanisms and managing to win a local Duel Monsters tournament.

Despite her parent’s concerns, Katherine has chosen to go to college in the United States, specifically Seattle, to study game design. Feeling very alone in the US, Katherine is searching for people she can believe in and be friends with, despite her worries about doing so. She ran into a flier for the local dueling club and decided to attend. Maybe she could find some friends there?

Deck and Ace Card: Katherine is running a Crane Curtain token/ritual deck supported by some Impcantation cards to search out her Ritual Monsters and Ritual Spells. Her ace card, Craned Curtain - Infested Curtarica, especially fits the amount of tokens the deck produces.

Infected Curtirica

Miscellaneous:

  • Katherine carries around a card explaining how her disease works in case she faints in front of strangers

  • Katherine hasn’t explained her disability to her dueling group yet and hasn’t needed to, as she hasn’t fainted yet.

  • Katherine occasionally names her monster cards and ascribes them personalities as a sort of coping mechanism. Her ace is named Antigone and is, according to Katherine, “a bloody feisty bird”

Spoiler

YL40upM.jpg

Name: Lucia Mikazuki

Age: 18

Birthday: 13th July

Role: Action

Appearance

4Czy2UI.jpg

While her physique didn't stand out back in her homeland, Lucia's height of 5'2 is rather below average in USA. As a result, she is often mistaken as a high or even middle schooler despite being a full-fleshed college student.

Personality:

Back in the past, Lucia was very cold and pragmatic as a result of her inhumane upbringing. A girl whose only view on others was based on how she could take advantage of them and would never hesitate to sacrifice anything to achieve her goal, not even trust or lives. That said, she could be described as empty shell who never understood emotions nor had any wish of her own. If she was shown to have some sort of goal, expect it to be an order from her father that obeying them was the only choice she was taught. One thing that would never change from this point onward was her determined nature. Once she set her mind on something, she would give her all into achieving it. For her, it's always all or nothing.

Following a fateful encounter with a certain boy and learning about Duel Monster, Lucia became more human thanks to acknowledging such strong desire to win as her own wish. She started to express genuine emotions and see good side of everyone around her. Unfortunately, even with trying to get close to others without taking advantage of them, she couldn't change the impression that her past self and her family name already gave off for so long.

After moving over to Seattle, Lucia adopts a new set of personality, becoming much more cheerful, energetic and childish (to the point of slightly mischievous). Her physical appearance might not be the only thing that gives off the wrong impression about her age when the girl herself still regularly pout to others and explain the reason behind a lot of her actions as "because I want to do it, period." That said, she still retains top-notched calculating mindset and always think about consequences before taking actions. This results in her being one of the most friendly and popular girl with many genuine friends as she always wished. She also openly expresses her interest in Duel Monsters and becomes an eager duelist who won't decline a single challenge from anyone.

Biography:

Lucia Mikazuki, real name Sugihara Akari, was the youngest child of the current head of Sugihara Group, one of Japan's largest financial group based on a renowned family name excelled in various aspects. During her childhood, she was raised in the most inhumane way possible, ending up as a breathing robot that was programmed to do nothing but uphold the reputation of Sugihara family. Things continued like that, until the day she enrolled into one of the most prestigious high schools in the country.

There, she met that person. At first, he was nothing more than an upperclassman. However, the card game he was playing with their classmates piqued her curiosity. After a while she bought some cards and made a deck after some research. Unfortunately, she lost her first game, but it was this very moment that she learned something important.

There existed something that she could "lose", failing to achieve optimal outcome as she was always taught, yet still had so much fun and excitement playing and trying to win.

He became the first person to ever become her friend without any ulterior motive from both sides. During the few months they stayed together, he had taught her not just about stuffs related to Duel Monsters but also emotion and common sense that the girl was severely lacking.

Pleasant time always went fast, but it was even faster for her since he got scholarship and had to graduate early for studying abroad. After he left, they didn't exchange any contact information, but Akari kept playing Duel Monsters competitively to the point of getting her father pissed and receiving a harsh punishment for doing such irrelevant thing. Eventually, she had to gave up playing in order to avoid further conflict.

Even though Akari had abandoned her old emotionless self, but with her excellence in various subjects and that premium family name, no one would ever become her friend out of their true feeling. Either she was too good for them, they were trying to take advantage of her or they were afraid she would take advantage of them. After realizing that, she finally gave up on another thing she never wanted to give up. This time, she finally came up with a plan.

After giving her best performance in every aspects for an entire year, Akari successfully graduated from the school as a top scorer and a student council president. With that feat achieved, she confronted not just her father but the Sugihara Group's board of directors about wanting to study abroad. Conflicts ensued, but even though her father insisted she must stay at the country's best university where he could monitor and control her action, in the end she was allowed by the majority of the board to choose her own future.

Once she moved over to Seattle, things were settled rather smoothly. False information about her address, selected faculty and achievement were fabricated and constantly sent back to her family while the girl herself became Lucia Mikazuki, an ordinary Asian-American girl who lived in the average dorm closest to the college and was actively starting to make friend. She then ran into the flier looking for a member for Duel Monsters team, and, after a full year of not being able to play the game she love, she finally realized.

That right now, she could do anything she want... without someone stopping her with stupid reason like family achievement and reputation anymore

...hopefully.

[Placeholder for future cards cuz Im bad at this site's code xD]

Miscellaneous:

- While being a girl with strategical thinking, Lucia doesn't despise surprise elements. In fact, she even love something full of mystery like witchcraft or street magic show as far as to practice it herself. With her determined nature, her current skill level on magic and sleight of hand technique is on par with manga Yuya.

- Since Lucia lacks familial love, she treasures the bond with her deck and each monster in it as though they were her actual family.

- If this thing kicks off I'll definitely put some theme songs here!

- I have some ideas regarding other characters mentioned in her Bio, especially that person who defrosted her. If the story progresses to the point where secondary character is allowed you will definitely see him ?

aEmV8Xh.png

Name: Chloe Flores

Age: 20

Birthday: August 20th

Role: Standard

Appearance:

 ebhpjW0.png

Height: 5’2

Personality: Chloe loved seeing people save the day and come to the rescue, whether an average joe save a cat in a tree or a superhero save the city from otherworldly threats. It was what inspired her, perhaps she could be like those that she looked up to. Though, her quiet nature and reserved demeanor  kept this dream out of actual reality. Instead, she looked to comic books, TV shows, and movies to escape her own space and see herself as the heroes that she adamantly looked up to. It was a dream then. This grew into a passion, not only wanting to just read but also explore worlds that books and other forms of media had to offer in the form of those who saved the world with a smile. She fell in love with the fantastic, the magical, the fictional. Watching superheroes on the big screen, witnessing mythic heroes face their demons in epics and fables. Everything that she was able to watch and witness, she often couldn’t see herself accomplishing outside of the fictional. While she loved the stories and epics tales, it fell short in reality; She was anything but the heroes she looked up. She tended to keep to herself and her own little world more often than not.

On the shy side, there wasn’t much to her that was let out other than constantly looking at the ground, apologizing whenever she felt she got in someone’s way, and being relatively closed off from everyone else unless necessary or her objective was more interesting than her demeanor. Much of her happiness was shadowed outwardly; it was the reserved kid that seemed to take the stage more and be the star of her own duet, the person in the background who never tried to get in anyone’s way. She was the background to the grand cast, and her more quiet appearance was the main character of her own story. It kept in the shadows and out of the spot light. The more attention brought to her, the more everything seemed to go wrong. So, she tried as much as she could to just be another person in the background—one that no one really noticed—and go about her own way. She wanted to be someone who could save the day, rescue the damsel, and give a smile so everyone knew that they were safe, like the heroes of her story. That, however, was simply a fantasy. Even if just a fantasy, there were ways for fantasies to be played out in actuality. It made sense to explore that in more ways than just on the words on a page or the pictures on a screen, and games gave her an avenue to be like those heroes and still live out a fantasy.

Biography: Growing up around the Seattle area, Chloe loved everything about her hometown. It was a relatively spread out city, where one could go anywhere these days and still find themselves in their own little world. It was perfect for Chloe, as she loved to explore and see what was out there; imagine the heroes of her stories coming to protect the people around her, maybe take up the mantle herself if the time came to it. But even then, it seemed like Seattle was a place on the border of reality and fantasy. Anything and everything was happening here, on the small school stage to the grand stadium. Or at least she wanted it to be. It was a town that she knew and that she wanted to know better, so it made sense for her to stay in the area when it came to school and education. It kept her close to home and close to the town she loved, especially since it seemed that Seattle had everything to offer to her hobbies: comic books, graphic novels, small bookstores, and even hobby shops where she could find herself exploring on her time off. Not much into the actual culture of the town itself, it did seem fitting for her to at least partake in the little habits that people of similar interests took part in, even if she wasn’t one to try and make friends on her own. It gave her something to do, or something more to do than just sit around and read. This way, by hanging around hobby shops and seeing what other people were interested in, it at least let her feel like she was a part of something more.

One day, out on one of her own little excursions, she made her way to the hobby shop to pick up the most recent edition of one of her favorite comic books when she came across a bunch of people playing a friendly game of Duel Monsters toward the front of the shop. She simply observed, keeping quiet and seeing what they were up — what the game was about. It seemed to fit into what she enjoyed, as the way people talked about the game: “I activate my trap card. I summon XX”, being a fantasy game that put people up against each other, overcoming obstacles, and defeating monsters. Just like the heroes she wishes she was like, someone who could overcome anything and come out victorious regardless of the situation in front of them. Just watching the game inspired her to find out more about it, even enough to ask the store owner what the game was about and what would be her best door into entering the world. Her interest overcame her own demeanor. It was another thing that sat well with Chloe, a sort of game that let her act like the characters she wanted to imitate. The store owner offered up a lesson in the game, just to get her feet wet and see what it was like. Even offered to teach her about the individual decks that were offered in the game, letting each individual pick up their own unique style and strategy, letting them act as their own character in a fantasy world. This led to her learning about HEROes, something she not only aspired to be but also wanted to do as much as she could to reflect what they were about. And that was her entrance into the world of Duel Monsters. Now, how she joins a team would probably be more fun to explore in the RP. I figured a background biography to her trying to make friends and get involved seemed more fitting for character introductions.

Deck and Ace Card: HEROes, focusing on Masked Heroes. An archetype based around Superheroes and the Fusion Summoning. Masked HEROes focused on fusion through specific cards and certain conditions, such as Mask Change, which brought out the truestrength of the archetype. I choose to include ABC’s versions of the manga cards which incorporate a more Main Deck inclusion of Masked Heroes, which focus on banishing themselves to gain an advantage dependent on the situation at hand. The custom cards can be looked at here:

https://tinyurl.com/ybbf53xj

I plan to explore the HERO archetype as a whole, even some custom versions and other styles of play that center around the HERO archetype. This is due to the potential growth that comes with the archetype, the different forms they take on, and the different universes that they occur in. It makes for a fun growth exploration with the character I envision. I am not sure how I will directly approach this, but it seems worth it to start in some certain way. Masked HEROes make for some fun designs and they never really got the respect they warranted within the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX manga.

Ace Card: Masked HERO Koga

Amely Wardenshield: Chloe still has reserves toward Amely; It is more because she doesn’t fully understand Amely outside of her dueling and her persona when she takes on dueling. To her, it seemed more that Amely was a product of her dueling and saw her always wearing a costume, so keeping a distance on a personal level only fit outside of the club and the team. Much of what Chloe was inspired by, what she wanted to see Amely accomplish, was never faltering on the battlefield and seeing how the monsters Amely used were like a team rather than just tools. The comradery that Amely displayed with and toward her monsters was something that Chloe admired, always wanting to watch Amely duel and how she would maintain her composure dueling intense battles. Though, this was something that Chloe admired, it was also something that kept her at a distance; She wanted to see Amely as a potential, what could be achieved if she managed to gain such an attitude and ways about one’s self. It kept their relationship distance, only interacting when it came to the battles at hand and only individuals of a system focusing on their own places. Chloe much strayed from the idea of a team, seeing how everyone else was so sure of themselves and how they acted when dueling that she tried to be on the team but not a part of the team.

Kendra Brooke: This is one that Chloe felt close to, if it could be called that. Really, it was the presence that relaxed Chloe when Brooke was around rather than the interaction that these two shared simply because Kendra was always asleep or minding her own business instead of trying to make herself anything but a yawning presence. Chloe wasn’t completely sure what Kendra felt, because the fact that she could approach rather than needing to be approached by her. This was, in particular, what made Chloe feel comfortable around Kendra: the relationship had no picture or idea to fill, there was nothing to really work on or work toward. That satisfied Chloe enough to where she appreciated having Kendra around, even if she did not try to make that fact known or go out of her way to try and build a proper form of kinship between each other. That became the basis of her relationship and attitude toward Kendra, the unnecessary need for anything to be there and the reason that nothing was set as a foundation to build upon. It made Chloe feel at ease, to be comfortable around someone without having to really work toward or try to see something that she looked up to from someone else. Chloe was some of herself in Kendra, on the basis that there was nothing necessary to be there and each other could just be around with any other worry.

Astrid Helvig: Chloe adamantly looked up to Astrid, since Astrid not only was herself at all times but also because it seemed like Astrid was herself; not wearing a costume or putting on an appearance to bring attention to herself. That is who Astrid was, just by seeing how she interacted. If was almost as if Astrid was the persona that she put on, a character in acknowledge of themselves and sure of everything that they do that there is no second guessing or forms of validation necessary to truly reflect their nature. Chloe saw not only a potential or a presence, but truly saw Astrid as something to look up to and try to take imitate attributes of. There was no real place for Chloe in the space that she saw Astrid being a part of, and that gave reserves to how Chloe felt about being on the team with everyone else. It made Chloe feel like an outsider, but also as someone who could be a cheerleader to the person that Astrid was at all times. In any case, Chloe only supported and tried to support Astrid at any point in time, if she felt like it was necessary of her. To Chloe, Astrid was the type of person that had everything a hero could be even if not wanting to take on such a moniker. Astrid was what Chloe was the team centering around, and what brought her to try aspire to be something more even if it was just through dueling.

Matthew “Matt” Maddox: There was some reserve toward Matthew, only on the basis that Chloe did not really seem to get Matthew even in his dueling. It always seemed like there was something else that Matthew could be doing at all times, kind of distracting or more aloof than most on the time. There, to Chloe, was no sense of being there in presence for Matthew. That his time always revolved around what it could be done with instead of what is currently taking place. That didn’t really sit anywhere with Chloe, since it parody Chloe’s own idea of trying to do something with her time rather than having anything to really do with it, so there was a field of curiosity that led Chloe to observe how Matthew acted, with no real purpose other than the curiosity of who Matthew was really or what he did with most of his time: be it the time that Matthew was trying to catch up on or use for another purpose. There was always a rush that Chloe saw from Matthew, that she just never got to understand and did not try to. Just simply watch what Matthew was about, and maybe something would click.

Vega Sterling: Chloe just goes along with how Vega acts, mostly because she seems to be the person putting the most effort in this team, even if she sometimes goes too far out of her way. That is something that Chloe admires, even if it is not something that she truly gets. For the most part, the team just seems like a bunch of people not really anything more than meeting up and wanting to play games, as simple as that is. There is nothing more to the team than everyone really just being their own person and doing their own thing; at least, that is how Chloe sees it. But she also sees how Vega does not fully accept that and wants to bring everyone together, even if they do not always fit together as friends, if one would call them that. Still, Chloe admires the effort and attitude that Vega brings to the club, keeping us together and trying to unify us to some degree. And that is something that she supports, a big reason why she stays around – because Vega has a stubbornness to her that really makes something, like this club, something that can bring people together and maybe make friends out of most awkward of interactions. Chloe might not go out of her way to do much, but she goes out of her way to stay around and that is a big step forward not only for Chloe but for how she feels about being apart of the team.

She tries to come off as quiet and relaxed, but to people who manage to get close (a difficult task) they realize this is a facade to hide what she does.

Her true fear is that if she lets someone see her true nature, they will be disgusted by her and then abandon her. Iris is lonely, never letting anyone in, just bottling everything inside her. Her facade is a trap, for everyone. She wants to be able to win duels with more than just good cards, but with clever timing and trickery. However, this is simply not possible in her mind without being prepared for others like her, people who take advantage of everything they see.

Biography:

Spoiler

Iris was  born in Sacramento, California. Life was fairly average, with two brothers, both younger, two years, and five years respectively. They were in good shape, happy family, plenty of money, everything working out alright. Schooling went well, everything was turning out great.

And then chess happened.

Iris took interest in chess when she was nine, quickly learning she had a natural talent for the game. It was really the metagaming part of the it that got her appeal, the idea of fooling your opponent into misplaying was pure bliss for her. She was thirteen when she won the Sacramento City Chess tournament. However, she got bored of the game after her victory, quickly picking up Duel Monsters originally as a hobby, but then expanding her interest into school-wide tournaments and gaining scholarships for her dueling ability. This is when her great facade began. She began to disguise how she acted behind a rouse of being quiet and relaxed, not letting anyone get close to her.

That was when she was picked up by Seattle Central College, where she was renowned for the same things she was when she was a chess player, her ability to metagame. She felt like it was getting stale, and she was ready to pass on to something else, when she discovered action duels, giving her a new challenge, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The environment change gave her new ways to trick and deceive, and it felt like a breeze through a newly opened window.

It was by random chance that she found the flier. She saw the chance for a new way to expand her horizons, and signed up to join this team. And she hasn't looked back, even deserting college after quickly finishing up her credits. It could wait. After all, school wasn't going anywhere, while opportunities like these were a once in a life time.

Deck and Ace Card: Aroma Synchro

Spoiler

The Deck is focuses on the Aroma Archetype,  which focuses on gaining Life Points, and then using effects that trigger off of the Life Point gain. Other than that, she uses plenty of continuous trap cards. Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram is the Ace, followed with Ancient Sacred Wyvern.

Miscellaneous:

Spoiler

Iris always is looking for new cards to add to her deck. The newest addition to the deck is Copy Plant, Photon Pulse Dragon, and Ancient Sacred Wyvern.

During Duels, she prefers going first, and at least until turn 5-6 she prefers to play conservatively.

Dragprincess Amely

Spoiler

Name: Amely Wardenshield
Age: 19
Birthday: 5/4
Role: Action

Spoiler

Appearance:

Height: 5'8"

1eeb9d316781cf22de6ec43f117922ab--charac

Spoiler

Personality: Amelyn is a staunch defender of what she believes in, and has a strong belief in trust in those she would consider comrades. She is Loyal and Protective, but can also be very Firm and a bit Vengeful. She is also able to be seen as very trusting in her cards, looking to her ritual cards to show her belief in giving up herself for a goal that she truly believes in if it must come to that.

Amely has a love for entertaining the children in a crowd, but can actually come off as rather cold or standoffish to adults or even sometimes to others her own age. Once she sees a child though, something makes her eyes sparkle and she takes on her Action Duel facade of 'The Dragprincess' proclaiming her opponent as an Evil-Doer who shall be stopped in some grand scheme. She'll do her best to convince them to go along with the charade, even going so far as to play one of her weaker cards to bait her opponent into attacking it to draw the crowd to her side!

Spoiler

Biography:

Before Amely's career in dueling started, she had been raised as a young girl on a farm in Germany. Most of her life skills taught to her were sewing, and she was treated like a delicate damsel. That changed one day when she managed to get away from her parents' doting, finding herself in the barn with their horses, her imagination running wild with the stories of knights in shining armor defending villages from dragons and rescuing actual damsels.

Once she made her way back to her house, she found herself glancing over at a Dueling Tournament that her father had been watching on the TV. Two men flew around the arena on the backs of dragons, giant grins on their faces as they danced through the field. It wasn't long after that Amely found herself interested in Duel Monsters!

Amely started her career in dueling at a younger age, taking up an apprenticeship with an Action Duelist who believed in honor and playing fair over winning the match. She was taught their style of Action Dueling, using monsters less as mobility options and more as well-trained fighters.

One day her master caught her working on a suit of armor, she had hidden it almost as if she'd been afraid he'd take it from her but what she got instead was a rather loud guffaw and a pat on the head, as well as something that would stick with her for the rest of her life, "If you're this devoted to dueling you'd build a suit of freaking -armor-, devote yourself fully and make the shield too! Devotion Maximum!" And from that day forward, she was required to make and wear her own Duel Armor.

After her apprenticeship with Action Dueling she made her way to a college she had been looking into in Seattle, being ecstatic when she had been accepted. She showed up a bit earlier than required when she finally got there, and it had been in the middle of a school club showing! Of course when she saw the club for Duel Monsters she had to approach them immediately, showing off her own deck.

Once she went through the showing she headed back off campus to the room she had rented before orientation was to be held, working on her 'Action Costume' as she called it, a rather simple suit of armor that could disconnect her duel disk from the shield in order to be used in a duel.

Spoiler

Deck and Ace Card: Ritual Paladin Dragons. Ace Card: Lord of the Red

Miscellaneous:

Amely's Destiny Draw: "I have devotion to my cards!"

Theme:

Spoiler

Chloe Flores: Amely has always found Chloe strangely quiet and almost like she avoided her. She didn't have anything against her at all, quite the opposite in fact! She had found her watching some of her duels, sometimes finding her in the crowd actually inspiring Amely to try even harder and sometimes she even gets a bit showoffy... However, she absolutely thinks Chloe needs to get better about representing herself and her opinions, if you never push forward it'll stay that way in her opinion. She also recognizes that sometimes it takes more than just one to push forward and is happy to help any time Chloe gains the confidence to ask her anything!

Kendra Brookes: Kendra has always been a bit of an odd case for Amely, with how tired she always was and seemed to sleep through some things she found important. She confronts Kendra sometimes to make sure she's taking care of herself, because obviously there's usually -some- reason someone is sleeping the day away. Amely tends to keep a small tally down of how many sugary drinks Kendra intakes over the day, keeping it in her back pocket in case she needs to make Kendra take care of herself, but understands why Kendra's doing it to an extent. She usually won't pull the tally out unless absolutely necessary and won't actually stop Kendra from drinking her sugar either. Regardless of all of that, she still respects Kendra when she sees push come to shove and how much effort she's truly willing to put into what she believes in.

Astrid Helvig: Astrid is... oddly similar to Amely in her opinion, but she subscribes herself too much to fate. She'd make an excellent Action Duelist if she wanted to submit herself to that, although more often then not in any games in the club Amely would try and coerce Astrid into playing the Heel of the Duel, inciting her into smarmy remarks and taunts with a smirk on her face to show she was playing. As for Astrid's beliefs, Amely wasn't completely sure how much Astrid believed in them with all of the typical stage talk. So once it got to the odd Shakespearean language if you asked Amely what she thought you'd realize she stopped paying attention to her as soon as the language started...

Matt Maddox: Amely doesn't entirely agree with Matt's habit of losing track of time and rushing situations. It's immature and doesn't take into account other people's needs because Matt made a mistake and now has to rush. She appreciates he's always paid his speeding tickets and the like and sees them as owning up to his mistakes, but also thinks he needs to take what his actions do to other people into consideration. Sometimes she might sneak a look at his bike, she was actually a bit envious of turbo dueling, it was almost like a duel on horseback! Of course she'd deny her interest every time she was asked, although the sheepish side glances could prove she was at least interested...

Vega Sterling: Vega is actually what you could compare with Astrid as 'Best Friend' material. Amely genuinely loves all of the duel club members like a family but Vega is sometimes willing to go even further than she is. It helps she's another Turbo Duelist and is likely the only person there that Amely's admitted finding Turbo Dueling cool to. She's a bit embarrassed by it but you can sometimes find her looking through her card collection trying to figure out what might make a good 'mount' to go with her paladin motifs in her Action Duels.

Gotta Go Fast (interest retracted, keeping app in post for preservation reasons)

Spoiler

nyoom.jpg

"Did you know people tip you better if you deliver their pizza super fast? Best. Gig. Ever."

Name: Ophelia Rogers
Age: 20
Birthday: August 23rd
Role: Turbo

Appearance:

Spoiler

euoomlo.jpg

Height: 4'11"

Personality:

Spoiler

Where there's excitement and adrenaline, Ophelia is seldom far. The girl simply radiates positivity and energy, and where some might tire out from the presence of other "human engines," Ophelia is only egged on further if she meets someone who can keep up with her pace. Even Ophelia can hardly keep up with Ophelia, and due to no shortage of haste and rush behind her actions, it isn't uncommon for her to forget something, trip up on her own words or legs, and perhaps most notoriously, run face-first into a wall because she was running too fast and couldn't stop or turn in time. These and other mishaps have desensitized an accident-prone Ophelia to any sort of shame, and conditioned her in such a way that the girl's body is every bit as hardy as her spirit. When she gets knocked down, most of the time she'll just get right back up and continue onward with every bit of speed and enthusiasm that she was previously charging in with.

Biography:

Spoiler

Born and raised in Seattle, Ophelia was a hyperactive toddler that went on to become a hyperactive child. That hyperactive child learned that the best way to channel her immense amounts of energy was running, and as a result, Ophelia did a lot of that growing up. That running turned into riding bikes, and combined with a growing interest in dueling, that would eventually turn into Ophelia being an aspiring turbo duelist. She couldn't sit in one place long enough for a regular duel, and action duels didn't really click with her. But she was right at home with turbo duels, and by the end of high school, she was a regular at any turbo duel arenas that were okay with her frequent crashes as long as she didn't hurt anyone.

Over time, her crashes became less frequent as she learned that constantly going full throttle didn't work, and that left room to improve on her dueling as her driving took natural steps forward. Then college came and threw a wrench into her standard routine of spending all her off-time at the track. Even worse, there was no major for going as fast as humanly possible! So she chose the next most exciting thing. Marine biology. While it wasn't as hands-on as she would have liked, she did learn through her own initiative that diving is also a pretty fun hobby when going fast somehow gets old.

Ophelia's first encounter with the team was by - in her rush to get to a class she was running late for - skidding across the floor with a pair of wet shoes and crashing right into a board that had one of the fliers on it. It seemed like fun, so she signed up, simple as that. As long as they weren't strapping her down to her seat and trying to slow down her breakneck-pace lifestyle, she was happy to get to know more people.

Deck & Ace Card:

Spoiler

Charmer
An archetype consisting of Spellcasters in all six attributes, Charmers and their related archetypes/sets feature a playstyle that can change on a swivel due to several multi-purpose spell/trap cards to back them up. Be it defensively stealing opponent's monsters, going on the offensive with large Familiar-Possessed monsters that deal piercing damage, or even swarming the field with the familiars themselves to summon Extra Deck monsters, the playstyle of a Charmer deck is every bit as varied as the monsters within its ranks.

Although a set of Link monsters exist within the archetype, Ophelia has yet to get her hands on them. Lacking much in the way of an Extra Deck, she makes use of Genex Ally Triforce as a makeshift ace monster, as well as employing additional Synchro monsters that she can take advantage of due to the multi-attribute nature of her deck.

Misc:

Spoiler

Holds the record for both the fastest lap time and the most consecutive crashes in multiple Turbo Duel arenas.

Has a driver's liscence. Although still rather hasty, Ophelia is quite a bit more sensible behind the wheel than one might expect from her turbo duel tendencies.

Has a pet turtle.

Although she insists on dying it pink, Ophelia's favorite color is actually red, and is in fact a natural redhead.

Musical Duelist

Name: Vance Akama

Age: 19

Birthday: October 30th

Role: Standard

cpsMDFF.png

Height: 5'4"

Weight: 105 lbs

Personality: Vance is rather outgoing, carefree, and friendly. He doesn't care much about how people think of him or his lifestyle and just goes with the flow. He isn't a fan of people who talk a mile-a-minute though and usually turns on some music to zone them out and ignore them. As a result, he never really did follow instructions well when attending college, but thankfully he always managed to scrape by. When dueling, he always has a smile on his face, which instinctively turns into a grin whenever he starts to get serious. Vance is also a bit of a prankster, usually playing jokes and tricks on people whenever he gets the chance.

Biography: Despite his parents being Japanese, Vance was born in the United States due to his parents moving to be closer to other family members. His birth was a strange one as he never cried once while in his mother's arms. At first they thought he wasn't long for this world, but it was later found out that he was just a really quiet child. As he grew up, he became a bit more vocal, but he still wouldn't talk much to those he didn't know and was generally a quiet boy. Vance eventually developed a love for music and playing instruments.

He even developed a fondness for Duel Monsters, with its many sound and music based cards. Despite this, he carried on with dueling, but only as a hobby, focusing more on his music at first. He even decided to pursue a career in music, going off to a college in Seattle to develop his skills. He soon found a course in music, and has now started working on playing the guitar, his favorite instrument.

Deck: Onomatopoeia Deck meant to easily bring out and rank-up Xyz monsters. The deck includes the usual Gagaga, Gogogo, Dododo, and Zubaba cards, but mostly contains Gagaga and Gogogo cards.

Ace: Number 39: Utopia

Miscellaneous: -Vance's favorite music is rock n roll.

-Despite not being a part of his deck's strategy, Vance likes to use the Musical Djinn Xyz monsters.

-His favorite trick to pull on people is to write on their faces when they're asleep. He usually writes sound effects or draws shapes on them.

The Sleeper

Spoiler

dNd5Yty.png

“You ever wonder how you wound up somewhere?”

“...I really wanna know how I got here.”

Name: Kendra Brooke

Age: 20

Birthday: February 18th

Role: Standard

Appearance:

Spoiler

Exavhi1.jpg

Height: 5'10

Personality:

Spoiler

Kendra is, at her core, tired. You could try to use the term laidback, but you wouldn't be right. She was high strung more often than not. Calm? Absolutely not, there's a sense of haphazardness in the way she does most things. Her irregular sleeping hours, the fact that she tends to push herself to be awake longer then necessary, and the constant intake of overly sugar-filled drinks in an attempt to squeeze out every drop of energy over the course of a day makes sure of it. It definitely isn't healthy, but she doesn't seem to notice how bad it is for her really. As a result, her daily routine tends to involve sneaking in little naps when appropriate... Which has gotten harder and harder as the years went by, obviously.

Outside of her tired demeanor, she's relatively easy to get along with. Her brand of excitement is a lot more subdued than other people, but it exists. In fact, it exists a lot. She may not always have the energy to drag people around if they're more outspoken than her, but she has the determination to force her own body through extreme punishment, just for the sake of her hobbies. And whether that results in people tagging along... But even if she has to fight to pull them with her limited stamina, she will. Her lack of energy betrays the stubbornness that she has underneath all of it, a sense of ambition that she claims doesn't exist. She harshly rebukes the idea that she knows what she's doing with her life, but she always seems to be ready to point towards the next task to be done, whether it's part of a group or just her own personal life.

That's not to say she has everything together, she has a horrible time figuring out what the next step should be... Her skill seems to only extend to getting things done, rather than actually being able to plan ahead effectively. This leads to her being a mixed bag, in terms of reliability. If you have something in mind that needs to be done, she'll get it done at her own pace, but if you're looking for someone who can take a direction without too much guidance... The end result may end up delayed by a while. That said, she knows very well she can't bring other's down with her, and gives special effort to those who are relying on her. Personal projects and school work? Those can take a backseat to helping those who request it from her.

She sees herself as someone who can be approached and can help those who want it, someone who can be reliable when it matters, even if she doesn't see herself as someone going places in life.

Biography:

Spoiler

Having been born in the small town of Carnation, Washington, Kendra wasn't really given a fighting shot to succeed in life from the start. Her parents, while not cold to her or even distant from her, were often busy in her early life, leaving her with family members who babysat her. Some of them were more interested in her well being than others, so experiences varied wildly for her from the start. Her parents both worked, constantly swapping jobs to make ends meet, barely able to live paycheck to paycheck safely.

As she grew older, she quickly began to notice that... They often went without new things. Her parents were thrifty and able to keep the house together well, her mother worked with a few different construction companies and picked up tips and tricks that helped keep things repaired, but they were often just tired. They didn't have time to spend with her, even as she grew more and wanted to spend more time with them. As a result, she had to grow to be more... Independent. She learned to take care of herself a bit better, earlier than most, while she was still in elementary school. She grew accustomed to setting up her own dinners and snacks in the evenings when her parents had to work later shifts and the one watching her had to go back to their own home. The neighborhood was quiet and she was never really in danger... But it was a lot for a kid.

Around her early teens, she began to look for hobbies that she could get into, without having to worry about her parents providing for it. She drifted around for a bit, art supplies were too expensive, and she couldn't afford them very often. Sports were out of the question, she couldn't afford the equipment costs at all... But a few of her friends had started to drag her into a card game they got into, and let her borrow a spare deck to get acquainted with the game. It wasn't something she found particularly... Interesting right at the start, the cards they used were a low power level. She began to work odd jobs around the neighborhood as she grew older, taking on babysitting jobs so that she could afford to put together her own deck as time went on. With the help from a few friends, she was able to scrounge together a fairly decent Batteryman deck, with a focus on Xyz Monsters since her friends preferred the other summoning types once they had pooled together a decent set of resources.

When she could get rides to them, she began to take part in little competitions, starting with small game stores. Small prizes at first, things that helped her build her deck, gain more resources over time, were incredibly valuable to her. They let her broaden her scope to continue growing her deck, obtaining rarer Xyz Monsters and more support options... And it caught the eye of a college in Seattle, a place that was scoping out the Duel Monster's scene, in case it was something for them to take more seriously. She didn't have the financial situation to go there normally, but she was able to get some help from the school to attend properly, helping her escape the small town she had been growing up in once high school was over.

She appreciated her parents providing for her, and they were supportive of the fact that she was basically getting a free tuition there, along with room and board, and encouraged her to take it. When she got there, she was quickly shown that classes were much more difficult... She had to put in a level of work that she wasn't used to doing, mainly because high school had been so focused on simply getting them through it. Her already restless nights became filled with more sugar to keep herself working... The only real enjoyment she got out of the college was the Duel Club, which she did put extra effort into. While she didn't excel in all of her classes there, she did put extra work into the Duel Monster's club, hoping to make the admission worth it...

And with the scouting, it certainly was worth it.

Team Musings

Spoiler

Chloe Flores

Possibly the one she gets along with the best... But is it really getting along with someone if you have minimal interactions with them? Chloe never seems to try and pull others along with her and was quiet, which means that Kendra was the standout one between the two of them, which... Is not where she normally is. It was a situation that made her uncomfortable with the idea of dragging Chloe into things, she was a quiet girl and she understood that, she would rather have Chloe come to her if she needed something and didn't want to do anything to hurt that image. Being too pushy with someone so quiet is something she knows she should avoid.

Matt Maddox

Matt makes her uncomfortable. She never excelled in school, and he seemed awfully proud of his own intelligence. It's not like she dislikes him, exactly. It's more so just a reminder that she never really hit the ground running when it came to her own education, and it makes her feel like she didn't belong in the college where they all got their start. She isn't one to ask for help in the first place, and his tendency to try and solve problems... It makes her feel a bit overwhelmed at times.

That said, she does get some amusement over his tendency to be late to things, she's never really met people who cut it even closer than she does.

Amely Wardenshield

Amely is probably the one that Kendra has the closest thing to respect for. It's not because of the performance she makes out of things or anything like that though... It's because of the way her eyes light up when she starts to try to entertain a child. She respects that. She doesn't always have the energy that the other girl does when it comes to entertaining, but she'd probably go along with it if she got dragged into it, which... Is rare, considering how she reacts to Vega trying to drag her into things... That said, when Amely takes the position that Kendra needs to be more active... She gets very sick of the feeling that she's right up in her ass.

Astrid Helvig

She cannot stand Astrid's attitude. She doesn't really subscribe to the idea of life being entirely predetermined, the mere idea of that makes her sick, even. Life wasn't something to just go gliding through as if nothing mattered. And maybe that's not what Astrid believes, but that talk of fate... It brushes Kendra the wrong way, in ways that she can't really put into words. She tries to keep interactions with Astrid purely professional, especially now that they're starting to get into tournament circuits that might actually matter.

Vega Sterling

Too much energy. She doesn't mind it really, but the fact is that Vega is a level of energy that Kendra definitely does not have. There's a level of push there that she appreciates, but she hates when its focused at her in particular. And Chloe, for that matter. The others might thrive when they're being pushed, but as for her, she knows her own system will get her where she needs to be... Assuming she had somewhere to be, of course.

Emberlynn Grey

Spoiler

dI9hGMC.jpg

"Magic is out there, you know? You just have to look for it."

Name: Emberlynn Grey
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Role: Standard
Birthday: January 14th

Appearance:

Spoiler

9fd8c9ab02f1e34e86f52cd2a262e929.jpg

Height: 5' 1"

Personality:

Spoiler

Free-spirited, energetic and very imaginative, Emberlynn marches to the beat of her own drum. She usually has her head up in the clouds, finding it hard to focus on one specific thing at a time. She’s quite blunt in this regard, always speaking her mind. She pretty much does what she wants to without much regard for others, not wanting to be tied down by other people’s wishes.

Through the stories that her grandfather told, he tried to teach her that there’s magic in the world - you just had to go out and look for it. She knows how cheesy this is, but she’s always stuck by it. As such, Emberlynn is quite inquisitive, always looking for ways to learn and find excitement in what she does. She’s extremely ambitious, sets her goals as high as possible and will see them to completion no matter what. That is, when she does make a decision. Emberlynn is fairly indecisive, having trouble making big choices. She often considers both sides of a problem thoroughly before throwing all rational thought out the window and going off of her gut reaction.

Biography:

Spoiler

Many of Emberlynn’s fondest memories were of her sitting next to the fireplace, listening to her grandfather tell her stories. Emberlynn’s grandfather was an accomplished writer, archeologist, and - in Emberlynn’s opinion - a master storyteller. Throughout her life, he would entertain Emberlynn with countless stories of ancient heroes, courageous acts, monsters and gods walking amongst men. By sharing his passion for finding excitement in the world, Emberlynn was able to receive it and make it her own. While her grandfather expressed this thirst for adventure and excitement through his stories, Emberlynn expressed this through dueling. Emberlynn loved dueling almost as much as the stories her grandfather would tell, and would do so at any opportunity she got, even if she wasn’t the best at it.

Emberlynn could never earn enough money to buy a fancy duel disk or a top-of-the-line deck, she still made do with what she had available. By borrowing excess cards from friends and “finding” cards in other’s backpacks - totally not stealing them - Emberlynn was able to make a deck. She rarely won, but each setback inspired her to grow and get better.

Though Emberlynn begged her parents to buy her a duel disk, they saw it as a waste of their daughter’s time. Instead, they would stress the importance of her role in continuing the family business, one that has been run by the Grey family for generations. As such, they tried to push her towards science, mathematics, technology, and a whole bunch of other stuff she didn’t really care about. All she wanted to do was, well, she didn’t know, but she’ll figure that out soon enough. Just not business.

Right before she turned seventeen, Emberlynn’s grandfather passed away suddenly. This hit Emberlynn extremely hard, leaving her angry and bitter for a while. A few months after this event, when Emberlynn and her family were clearing out her grandfather’s house, they found a plain, cardboard box with Emberlynn’s name on it. Inside was a well-used duel disk, a deck, and a card. The card was addressed to Emberlynn, explaining that these were her grandfather’s old deck and duel disk, and that he wanted to give it to her for her seventeenth birthday. The deck had cards she only vaguely recognized from TV. Cards that were both monsters and spells? The concept was so foreign to her, yet it excited her.

After some light refurbishing to the disk, she was able to enter into a few tournaments throughout high school. Though she got some better results than she used to, she still wasn’t the greatest. However, she was determined to make this new deck her own.

As for college, she didn’t really care where she went. So just to appease her parents, she chose the college they both went to when they were her age. It was fairly close to home too, which was a bonus.

Of course, when she saw the flyers to join a dueling team, she had to do it. Hopefully they wouldn’t mind a freshman that doesn’t really know her own deck. Oh well, looks like they’re gonna have to deal with it.

Deck and Ace:

Spoiler

Pendulum Magicians

A group of Pendulum exclusive Spellcaster-type monsters that focus on recycling themselves and swarming the field with some decent cohesion. They are not the strongest on their own, but they work well as support cards to other Pendulum archetypes. As such, Emberlynn’s ace monster is Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, a high leveled beatstick, due to a lot of the Magician’s effects supporting Odd-Eyes cards.

Miscellaneous:

Spoiler

-Battle Music
-Emberlynn has always wanted to try Turbo Duels, but never had the opportunity to do so. She loves watching them on TV.
-She loves chewing gum
-Usually goes by Em
-Her favorite story is The Odyssey by Homer. Do not mention it unless you want your ears talked off.

Height: 4'11"
Life is a story.

Many people talk about how they wish they could see the future, know what lies ahead so as to live their life better, but Astrid was never able to subscribe to such a desire. For as long as she can remember, she has felt that every little thing that would ever happen to her, happen to anyone, everyone, was a carefully chosen word by the incredible poet Fate. Many would consider such a sentence to be melodramatic, but that is exactly as Astrid always wanted to live her life. She never had any fear of people acting like her fantasies were anything but the musings of a truly brilliant mind, for she knew they were. She was doing as Fate had written, and she wouldn't have it any other way. [I'm going to add more as I get to know her]

Biography
Growing up, Astrid always wanted to be an actress. Her family was wealthy enough that the opera house was a fairly regular outing for her and her mother when she was a young child, and as she gazed upon the actresses, whose overwhelming presence allowed them to tower over the audience, she couldn't help but see herself in their shoes, staring from their perspective. Unfortunately, Fate had something else in mind. Even as she reached adulthood, she never managed to reach a height of 5 feet tall. She knew quickly that such dashed her hopes of standing upon the stage, but the stage never left her heart.

She plunged herself into learning about any form of scripted performance. She listened to sonnets, memorized the footfalls of ballets, and lived her life imagining those of Shakespeare's greatest works. She strive to become an academic, and worked herself to the bone day in and day out to perform as well as she could so that she could get into a good arts program after graduating. All that stress brought with it a need to unwind, which led her to duel monsters. She used a few hundred dollars of spending money on a case of booster boxes, since she wasn't sure how else to start playing. After a few hours of tearing cellophane and reading cards that left her unimpressed and uninterested, she saw… her. The card that would carry her to become the talented duelist she eventually became. The soft, smug smile reminded Astrid of her own, and she decided that it must be coming from Fate itself. Who else would unite her with such a perfect card?

Dueling Information
Abyss Actors: A half-nonsense deck of pendulum monsters and support spells, this archetype revolves heavily around searching its own members, generating advantage, and modifying ATK and DEF. Aimless, but there is potential there.
Ace Card: Abyss Actor - Mellow Madonna

Flame of Passion in the Starry Sky

Vega Sterling

22

Birthday
July 7th

Role
Flex (Currently Turbo)

Appearance

Standing at 6'1", Vega sports a small bust and a mostly thin physique, with a few extra pounds appearing lately.

Personality
Passion is the biggest word to describe Vega. Anything she does, she does with an absolute burning desire for it. She fully believes in taking life by the horns and taking what's hers from it, whenever possible. Life is short, why bother worrying about things you can't change? Just find a way TO change them! She has little to no belief in "fate", "destiny", or anything of the like, because many choices are made for people, not by the person in question... So why bother adhering to those choices?

She's really not much of a leader, other than this whole thing being her idea in the first place, but she tries her best to stand at the front of the group with a big smile on her face, ready for the team to take the world by storm. She genuinely believes they can make it to the top, if they try hard enough. And she'll make sure to give them all the pep talks and support they need to do it!

Jekyll and Hyde

So, first things first, I had to change themes in order to even read this app. Bolding all the text made it hard as hell to read on the dark theme without hurting my eyes. You also made the entirety of the Miscellaneous section white no matter the theme, so that was more complications. Please keep formatting in mind when applying to RPs.

I've gotta be honest, I don't really like them. It feels... edgy, without there really being a reason for it. There's no explanation for Hyde part, it just is there, but the bio didn't touch on it. You described it as falling unconscious, but not how Hyde comes out at those times or anything. It feels like the split personality is just a gimmick on top of Katherine.

I'm not going to say this is irredeemable, but it feels really weak.

Hm... I like her, but I feel like the personality and bio clash a little bit. It feels like you described two different people. but it might just be that the bio is a bit short for the backstory it implies she has. I do enjoy the general premise, though. I just wish you expanded on her a bit more than is here, cause it feels kinda clunky.

I figured I'll put mine since I /think/ I finished most of what I wanted

Honestly? I fucking adore this app. Enough so that I'm going to say early acceptance, because I can feel the heart and soul radiating from it. Good job. Only thing I don't like is the font making it hard to read on darker themes, which is oof.

Iris

Personality feels kinda all over the place. Is she slow and steady? Is she not? Methodical? Immediately goes forward? I don't think there's much in the way of a solid personality here. On top of that, the character just feels kinda... boring? I get the idea of a mind game player, but I'm not sure how well this app executes that idea. I'd say it needs to be kinda trimmed down in ways that just... get to the point, I guess?

Dragprincess Amely

This is a little skimpy. I know you discussed some of the ideas of it with me, and I like them, and I would prefer to see a little more fleshing out... But I do like the idea, yes. Just a bit too to the point.

Leaning heavier to Amely than Katherine.

She makes for a fun, goofy team member without standing out in a bad way. Nothing really bad going on here, just good. Also accepted, like Chloe.

Mute Duelist

This really, really feels like a difficult thing to pull off. Being mute in a format like this, especially one based on the character interactions... not to mention the discourse-based combat going on, can be a serious drain on writing. Anti-social social butterfly is a weird take. On top of that, the personality feels the most contradictory out of all of the apps, except that he has a trickster streak.

However, I will say I like choosing Onomatopia as the deck of choice for someone who is mute. It's a nice little touch that ties it together a bit. Not the worst app, but kinda weak.

The Sleeper

I also really like this one, especially when you juxtapose her with Yui's Ophelia. I think it's fitting that the Synchro player and the Xyz player are kinda the inverse of each other, so all in all, gonna say accepted to this app, as well. Welcome!

Yo I haven't seen Pendulums yet what's up with that (WIP)

I know it says WIP, but figured I would go ahead and give my thoughts on this one, too.

NGL, I like her. I don't have much negative to say, it seems solid enough, she's someone with stars in her eyes and a lust for life, and it feels cohesive. I will have to compare to the other Pendulum app.

Nerd.

Again, really solid app. Character comes through, there's a clear place, and i like that she kinda has a similar mechanic to Ophelia/Kendra with Vega.

Leaning heavier to Astrid than Emberlynn.

If anyone wants to try and change to fill the remaining slots (for now, that would be Ritual, Pendulum) or to just try and refine their character more, feel free. I will be checking again for the final time on Friday, July 3rd.

HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!!!!

One is the Loneliest Number

Spoiler

Image
“The phrase is gestalt...the whole is more than the sum of its parts. And this six person team is no exception.”

Personal Information
Name: Matthew “Matt” Maddox
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Birthday: September 23rd
Role: Turbo | Flex [Standard]
Appearance:

Spoiler

5geFAZx.jpg

Height: 5’9”

Depicted above is Matthew's general appearance. For his Duels, he sports a red with white trimmed Duel Disk pad with a hard-light surface in a deep dark crimson. His D-Wheel/motorcycle for his Turbo Duels is known as "The Equation".

Personality:

Spoiler

Matthew is what one would call a pragmatic individual, in both life and Duel Monsters. In terms of intelligence, hes quite the smart cookie, choosing to major in mathematics and problem solving. If a situation would present itself to him to which it would be an issue or problem, Matthew would tackle it with a clear, calm mind and think about the steps that can possibly be followed to troubleshoot the given problems or situations. Due to this mindset, he can sometimes be called upon to give some advice by others he's around. While his advice may not be 100% accurate for some, he does what he can to assist and give the opinions and examples from his own life to try and help as much as possible. Generally a friendly and helpful gentleman, Matthew is a trusted asset to any team he's on and even to those who would call him friend.

He isn't without his flaws, one of which being he has a bad habit of losing track of time, which in turn causes Matthew to end up rushing in certain situations. Due to him being a Turbo Duelist, this isn't the type of situation and flaw to have specifically, especially if he's being the wheel on his D-Wheel...and in traffic...with a countless amount of traffic lights. If asked, Matthew will say he's had a few speeding tickets in his life, some taken care of due to some understanding law enforcement...others he had to deal with and pay off, which he has always done.

Biography:

Spoiler

“All paths diverge from zero...without it, we wouldn't ever grow.”

Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Matthew was constantly being put to work and hitting the books. His father worked at a local garage and his mother was a state worker, both having relatively good jobs and Matthew had a pretty good childhood. His parents simply wanted to make sure Matthew could succeed in life, something that both his parents didn't much of in their life only due to neither going to college. They wanted to make sure that Matthew could and had the option if it was available to him. Thusly, Matthew began his long journey, beginning with acing his younger school days without so much of a problem.

However, one subject kept getting him nowhere: mathematics. For all intents and purposes, he couldn't figure all of it out. This is about the time that Duel Monsters entered his life. Young Matthew was always fascinated by games and when his parents brought into the picture Duel Monsters, they used this as an opportunity to teach their son the basics of math and how things worked. Which attack is greater? How much Life Points will they lose if this attack goes through? How many stars are needed for a Tribute Summon? These small questions slowly gave Matthew the answers and even knowledge to know how to do certain things in this subject, let alone give him an immense love for the game. Because of the introduction of this card game, Matthew began to do much better in math and even begged his parents to allow him to get started in actually playing the game.

As time passed, Matthew finished high school with the highest honors and high grade point average, and while not a huge deal, was quite the Duelist. During his final years as a high school student, Matthew took up the interesting method of Dueling: Turbo Duels. With his father's help, he was able to make quite a D-Wheel and was able to compete in a few Turbo Duels himself. Granted he didn't win all the time, but his aptitude for Turbo Duels aside from just the Standard run of the mill style, impressed the young man. So much so that while he was searching for a good college to better his life and possibly assist him in a future career...he wanted to find a place that had a Duel Team...one where he could Turbo Duel to his heart's content. Enter the college in Seattle, WA.

This quaint little college in Seattle was just what he needed to both further his education and little did he know, there was a Duel Team just ripe for the picking. His first appearance into this Duel Team actually was by accident, as he was late to a math class and stumbled upon the team practicing in a room...thus gave him acceptance into the Duel Team...as well as having him miss his first class at college. Worth it...

Mathmech

An archetype that deals with the Cyberse monsters with a math theme, with a series of Level 4s that are able to swarm the field with a countless amount of effects with alternating effects that would ignite during them being in the Graveyard. They deal with setting up an OTK with the Synchro Monster known as Geomathmech Final Sigma, which isn’t something that Matthew doesn’t do much due to Final Sigma not being an ace to the Duelist. Truth be told, the OTK isn’t something Matthew tends to go for in the slightest, as he figures that makes things too easy...and Duels are supposed to have a feel of a sheer thrill and excitement as well as being un-calculated. The OTK aspect is just too calculated and makes things less fun.

Miscellaneous Information
Matthew’s Theme | Dueling Theme

  • Matthew's names mean the following: Matthew - A name that came from the Hebrew name "Matityahu", which means "Gift of Yahewh/God". Maddox - A Welsh name that means "fortunate" or "son of Madoc".
  • He is quite the fan of Japanese animation and manga, namely those works involving giant robots and mechs.
  • Matthew's D-Wheel was painted to resemble that of Geomathmech Magma.
  • Upon this character's creation, I leaned heavily into the mathematics theme from Mathmech in order to give a character that would truly be a perfect fit for this archetype.
  • The character's name is a huge reference and joke, because I don't do that enough in RPs.
  • This character marks the second RP character I've created that holds my real first name.

Thoughts on this Duel Team...

Spoiler

I suppose I should write this down for my own benefits for now...after all, if I'm to be dealing with this Duel Team for the time being...I may as well list who meshes well with everyone.

Chloe Flores - The team's resident HERO player and general superhero buff. While being quite the Duelist who seems to have the knack for the Fusion Summons and utilizing the styles of the Masked HEROs that she has at her disposal, she seems to...not be one who takes center stage. She seems to...oh what's the word? Reserved! She seems too reserved for the moment, like she's almost afraid to break out. Hopefully this will be something that can be broken through the course of the team's journey. ...then again, she also tends to be staring at me...almost in one of the uncomfortable manners...why?

Astrid Helvig - The youngest but most spirited member of the team. Spirited is a generous word to use, if any. I've Dueled the prima donna on a few occasions, and yet she berates my style of playing my Mathmechs as, to quote her: "You're opposing fate! Play that deck the way fate intended!!". She seems to want me to play my deck to the specifications of utilizing the OTK plan, but I don't subscribe to this method. After all, after a while, this thing will get boring if I constantly work with that method. ...I'm getting off topic. With Astrid, she seems like a smug girl in certain situations, constantly raving about the strings of fate as well as pretending how everything is a play and she, the actress. The latter part of that isn't bad given her Abyss Actor deck, and it matches her greatly...I just wish she would cease the constant berating me on my Dueling techniques and choices.

Kendra Brooke - She's the team's Xyz player, specializing in Batteryman. If one could garner an award for sleeping in as many meetings, Kendra would definitely be the #1 pick in this category. Aside from this constant fault of hers, she happens to be quite the friendly soul. Unfortunately she also has the misconception that she doesn't see herself going anywhere in life...least that's the general vibe I'm getting from her. Not only this, but she's the second individual who seems to give me a staring look...something tells me she really doesn't care much about me in general, but then again, that's to be seen. ...she does however, seem to always get a smile on her face when she sees me late and rushing...least that garners some reaction.

Amely Wardenshield - The team's resident knight that runs the Ritual aspect...and the one who seems to be disappointed with me constantly. I talked with the others and it apparently has something to do with my poor time management, which isn't my fault...given how I'm still working on that. Regardless, Amely is quite the character in her method of Dueling, in the most literal sense. She does seem to know her way around the Action Duel field and the fact that she can entertain the masses as her Dragon Princess façade is also a bonus. However, I am hoping that sooner or later she'll learn to not let my own poor time management get in the way of us working together on this team.

Vega Sterling - The fiery redhead that happens to specialize with Link Summoning and her Fire Fist deck. She's a firecracker in every sense of the word. From the countless pep talks and supporting of all the team, it's not a surprise why some (including myself) have looked at her as the de facto leader of our little Duel Team...even though she herself doesn't seem to think of herself as one. Nevertheless, out of the group, Vega seems to be the one who stands out the most in my eyes. She has the type of attitude that simply screams Carpe Diem, just to seize the day and take life by the horns. ...then again, she has said Veni Vidi Vici...which being "I came, I saw, I conquered"...so that does worry me slightly.
