Trapendulum (my take on an overdone idea)

Recommended Posts

Yes, it's yet another take on the ever popular "What if pendulum monsters but trap cards" and while I don't expect even my version of the concept to be particularly unique it's been some time since I've made a post about my cards. While I consider this, like most of the more out there stuff I make, more a proof of concept than a well thought out and balanced set notes on the individual cards are always appreciated.

The Mechanic

Spoiler

- As you'd expect they work for the most part like regular pendulums with the exception of being set the turn before you activate them in a s/t zone.

- Also unlike the normal variant they don't normally remain on the field after activation and effect resolution.

- They do, however, allow you to pendulum summon during your opponents turn (usually with some condition) if you already have a another pendulum card activated, so either pack regular pendulums as well or chain one onto the other to make full use of them.

The Cards

Spoiler

as a fun little gimmick, at least for me, each monster is based on an existing trap card and references it in their name.

Sm by inkescher

When a Spell or Trap card OR Monster effect would be activated you can pay 2000 LP, Negate that card or effect and destroy that card, then you can Pendulum Summon monsters from your hand.

When a Pendulum Card leaves your Pendulum Zone you can Set one "Trap Eyes Pendulum Dragon" or "Trapendulum" monster in that Pendulum Zone from your Hand, GY, or Face-Up from your ED.

Mfm by inkescher

When an opponents monster declares an attack destroy all attack position monsters your opponent controls, then you can Pendulum Summon monsters from your ED.

If you Pendulum Summon one or more monsters monsters, Pendulum Monsters you control cannot be destroyed until the Endphase.

Compulsary by inkescher

Add one "Trapendulum" monster from your ED to your hand then Pendulum Summon "Trapendulum" monsters.

When this card or another "Trapendulum" monster(s) is Pendulum Summoned, target one monster on the field, return it to the hand, or, if it's a "Trapendulum" monster, face-up to the ED.

Traphole by inkescher

When your opponent would summon a monster with 1500 or more ATK negate that summon and, if it was a Special Summon, banish that monster, then you can Pendulum Summon monsters with 1500 or less ATK.

While you control this Pendulum Summoned monster neither player can summon monsters with more than 1500 ATK except "Trapendulum" monsters. When this card attacks or is attacked damage calculation is performed using this cards DEF.

Target one monster your opponent controls, negate that monsters effects until the endphase and it cannot attack "Trapendulum monsters this turn, then you can Pendulum Summon.

While you control this Pendulum Summoned monster, "Trapendulum" monsters cannot be targeted by your opponents card effects.

Haunted by inkescher

When this card is activated Special Summon one face-up Pendulum Monster from your ED or GY, tthis card's Pendulum Scales become equal to that monsters Level. This card does not leave the field while you control a monster summoned by this cards effect.

You can Pendulum Summon Face-Up "Trapendulum" mosters from your ED to Main Monster Zones. You can tribute this card, until the endphase you can Pendulum Summon monsters from your GY.

Reckless by inkescher

Draw cards equal to the number of Face-Up monsters in your ED then you can Pendulum Summon, skip your next two drawphases.

When you Pendulum Summon one or more "Trapendulum" monster(s) draw one card.

Destruction by inkescher

Destroy all "Trapendulum" monsters you control; inflict damage to your opponent equal to the number of Face-Up Pendulum Monsters in your ED x200.

Once per turn you can tribute one "Trapendulum" monster, inflict damage to your opponent equal to it's Level x100, this card cannot attack this turn.

VSoL by inkescher

Activate ony if "Trap-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" is in your other Pendulum Zone; Pendulum Summon monsters from your hand or Face-Up from your ED.

Tepd by inkescher

a few months ago I took a look at a set of cards intended for the final boss of my first Yugioh RP (never made it that far) and did a major update, they're almost completely different cards now but I'm still happy with them. for those wondering about the name their original gimmick involved making use of Destiny Board and the Spirit Message cards.

Pretty much the same as every other "Make a ___ Card" game just with my own (not particularly original) Sub-Type. And because I need something to do when I'm bored I'll try my best to make images to go with any cards that aren't given any and add them here
      Cards Created
      Rules
      1. All monsters must have the "Negative" Subtype and have either the "Negative Clause" (see rule 2) or an effect that allows their Level or Rank to become a negative number OR must directly support/be supported by Negative monsters.
      2. All monsters types can be Negative except Link due to the lack of a Level or similar attribute that can be given a Negative value, Links that require Negatives as tribute or benefit from being linked to them are allowed.
      3. Suggestions can come in the form a card name, a Type/Attribute, an additional Sub-Type, an effect/premise, or any combination of the 4
beyond that it's the basic rules
      4. If you create a card leave a prompt
      5. You must respond to the most recent prompt only
(Not a rule, more a design note to keep in mind, Negative monsters tend to have strange effects such as having no Attribute or only being able to be summoned during your opponents turn)
to get the ball rolling here's some examples of what you can do with Negative monsters
As for a suggestion how about a monster that has effects based on the combined Levels of all monsters on the field, the closer to zero the better the effect.

It's once again time for the annual World Duel Nexus, a month long festival where duelists from around the world gather in teams to compete in specialized dueling tournaments, from Fusion and Xyz specialists to Entertainment and tag duelists, there's sure to be an event for everyone, all coming together in a series of team Action Duels where the various teams of duelists will face off. This year, to celebrate the twelfth anniversary of the event, a special set of cards has been released exclusively for competitors including the zodiac themed "Astrograhm" monsters, an archetype of low level monsters that can be discarded to summon a monster of the same attribute. Among the professional teams of duelists sponsored by countries and companies are two strange groups consisting of mostly unknown duelists from across the globe, the privately funded teams "Destiny" and "Fortune", what could their agenda's be? and why are their mysterious sponsors so interested in the "Astrograhm" monsters?

Not my most amazing set in practice but I really like the premise so . . . introducing the "Dimewarp" archetype, a set of inter-dimensional and time traveling Negative monsters.
In terms of flavor/lore the ED acts as a space between dimensions or it's own dimension entirely that the monsters came come and go from as they please through pendulum summons, the archetypes main gimmick is the ability to perform Pendulum and Synchro summons during your opponents turn, typically at an odd cost. in terms of monster design most of the monsters are intended to be different versions of a single person, be they from the past, future, or an alternate universe, those that aren't are just various entities that inhabit the space between worlds.
