Kimetsu no Yaiba: Slay the Night (OOC/Accepting/Pg-16/Co-Host Wanted)

Demons.  A bloodthirsty, nigh-immortal being, who survive by devouring human flesh.  Their only weaknesses?  The Sun, and wisteria.  They were once thought to be just myth, purely to scare children from going out by themselves at night.  This was never the case.  Demons truly roamed the lands, slaughtering their prey in the hours of twilight.  But there was always a group of people willing to stand on the frontlines of the night, protecting the innocent.  These were the agents of the  Demon Slayer Corps.  Extraordinary humans, hand selected to combat the plague of demon-kind.  Their battle against the demons was always an uphill struggle, but that all changed drastically one night.

On December 1st, 1917, the Sun did not rise.  A whole 24 hours had passed, and the Sun had yet to peak over the horizon.  It was a frenzy.  No longer confined to the dead of night, demons revealed themselves to the masses, devouring whoever they pleased without consequence.  In just over a month, the demons had taken over most countries all over the world, spreading their disease and destruction with each conquered nation.  To quell the appetite of Demons, they now raise humans like cattle.  But this doesn't mean they still don't try and find prey that has yet to be discovered.

The Demon Slayer Corps have always been fighting this endless war for centuries, but it would seem all hope was lost.  Even the Sun had given up on them.  But still, they persisted in the face of this great evil.  By circumstance, or by choice, you are a Demon Slayer.  Your mission?  Stop this endless night, and take back the world from these wretches!

Demons:

Spoiler

Creatures who were once human, now twisted into their worst possible selves.  The scour the night in search of fresh human flesh to consume.  Demons don't consume each other, and cannot procreate.  They are only made in one way.  The blood of the original Demon, the most powerful of all, must be given to a human.  Whether they survive the turning process is a gamble, but those who manage to survive are turned into demons.

A demon grows stronger with each person they consume, and is practically immortal.  The only way to kill a demon is to sever it's head with a Nichirin Weapon, poison it with Wisteria, or let it starve to death.

Demon Slayer Corps:

Spoiler

A group unknown to most of the worlds governments, now having to step into the light to prevent the extinction of Humanity.  They work in tandem with many other organizations that are indebted to the Demon Slayers, and have developed techniques to combat the Demon Threat.  In the Demon Slayer Corps, there are different ranks of slayers, ranging from Novice (Mizunoto 癸みずのと ) to an Elite sub group named Hashira.  They combat demons with weapons made from Nichirin.

Nichirn:

Spoiler

A special ore that has absorbed sunlight.  Once an abundant resource now has become extremely scarce in the perpetual night.  Although, there are still secret locations where the ore is mined.  However, it is doled out in small quantities.

Weapons made out of Nichirin are able to cut through Demons quite well, and limit their healing factors to a degree based on how strong the demon itself is.  Wisteria poison has this same effect if it circulates through their bloodstream.

Breathing Techniques:

Spoiler

Along with Nichirin weapons, the Demon Slayers had to find a way to combat the extreme physiques of demons.  Total Concentration: Breathing is a technique that allows the user to breath in an extremely efficient way.  It allows one's body to become stronger, and more durable than base level demons, and can be honed to the sharpest edge once trained to the extreme.  However, inexperienced users may tire out their lungs extremely quick, and find themselves unable to keep up their breathing techniques for long.  The strongest demons slayers have trained their lungs to max capacity twenty times over.

Along with  Total Concentration, the way one breathes can also affect one's own abilities.  There are many styles of breathing, including: Flame, Thunder, Water, Stone, and Wind.  However, variations of the main 5 styles have appeared and evolved over the years.  Each Breathing Style has it's own unique weapon styles, and attacks, all boasting incredible ways to cut down a demon.

A comprehensive guide to the techniques of known breathing styles can be found here (slight-mild spoilers): https://kimetsu-no-yaiba.fandom.com/wiki/Breathing_Styles

The Slaughter Year:

Spoiler

The Years 1917-1918.  Demons ran rampant over the populace of Japan.  Demons are a greedy bunch, and fight over territory, so their thin numbers were spread even thinner once they claimed large sections of lands.  Strong demons decided to make their own cities and villages, consisting of weaker demons and human livestock.  Through the means of overseas travel, some demons were even able to scatter across the globe and claim entire countries for themselves.

Personal Information
Name: Yosuke Mori (Lit. 洋介 , Mori Yosuke)
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance:

Spoiler

Yamamoto.Takeshi.full.453337.jpg

Personality:

Spoiler

As the son of a fisherman, Yosuke has learned how to be calm and patient for a moment when the fish bites. This is something he's applied in his everyday life, just remaining as calm as he can and to always be as patient as possible with any situation, demon or otherwise. Also being the son of a fisherman, he knows how to be a hard worker and to give everything he has in whatever he does. He'll go the extra mile just to make sure a job gets done, because to him the best reward is a job well done (...that and money…).

Despite this, however, he isn't without his flaws. The biggest of these flaws happens to be that he still blames himself and feels the guilt for the death of his brother. While he knows it was a random circumstance and coincidence, Yosuke still believes that if he didn't suggest the path to home they took, his brother would still be alive. As such, this guilt could end up causing him to stumble and possibly have him lose himself in the moment, practically leaving openings wide for strikes. It's a flaw he's been working on, but it's one that'll need the most work.

Biography:

Spoiler

"I won't let another fall...that's why...that's why..."

Yosuke Mori, born to the Mori Clan found himself the son of a fisherman but that was all he knew at the time. In truth, Yosuke's family had another "family business", though he wouldn't learn about it until much later in his life. Until that day, however, he was content with being a fisherman and just enjoying his time with his father out on the water. Something about it just calmed him, and it also was what separated him from his younger brother, who simply hated the fisherman lifestyle. But it was a living, there was nothing more to it...a man needed to provide for his family.

There was a night, however, that changed Yosuke's life drastically forever and that still haunts him to the day. It was a quiet night...moon overhead, it was the later hours that they should've been home by now...but they were young kids with not a care in the world. After seeing a show in town, the brothers walked home...and to make sure they got home at a decent time before their father punished them, Yosuke directed them down a small dark alleyway. While this would get them home quicker, there was a cost. A demon appeared before them, caught them off guard and ended Yosuke's brother's life right where he stood. In horror, Yosuke watched as his brother was devoured by this unholy creature...and it was then that he was saved by a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. The Slayer escorted Yosuke home and to deliver the news of his brother...only to find out that his father knew of the Demon Slayer Corps and the existence of demons...considering his grandfather, Yosuke's great grandfather, was a retired member of this organization.

For a while afterwards, Yosuke was irate with his father for not telling him or his brother this truth sooner...if he did, perhaps his brother would still be alive. He was told that his father chose not to continue the tradition of demon slaying in order to live a quiet life, something his father berated him many times before. He did, however instill in Yosuke that if he wished to pursue this lifestyle to simply go speak to his grandfather, the last Mori in his family to be a Demon Slayer, in order to train.

The young man did just that, working under his grandfather's teachings of the art of demon slaying and showing his grandson the fighting style used to best demons: the Breathing Styles...his style being the Water Breathing. Try as he might, the young fisherman's son took to learning these things from his grandfather, but simply couldn't grasp the way to move with a katana. But a breakthrough was found when his grandfather decided to test a theory by tossing him a second katana and told him to perform the forms with twin katana in hand. To his surprise, Yosuke actually was able to have his movements flow better in this manner than he did just wielding the single weapon. With this new style of fighting, Yosuke entered and passed the Final Selection, successfully making it into the Demon Slayer Corps before being granted his twin nichirin blades.

A few years passed and Yosuke has been quite adept in the rankings of the Corps, still fighting to keep these abominations of creatures from terrorizing anyone else.

Combat Information
Slayer Rank: Adept
Breathing Style:

Spoiler

Water Breathing
The Water Breathing combat and breathing style mimics water, specifically the flow, flexibility and adaptability of the liquid and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques involve the user bending their body, arm and weapon in a flowing motion. When utilized properly, the user visualizes water in varying shades of blue with white wavy patterns akin to waves resembling water found in classical Japanese paintings, to seemingly emanate from their weapon, surroundings or themselves. It is said to be the most common Breathing Style among Demon Slayers due to being the easiest to learn for beginners. However, unlike others that use this style, Yosuke has tweaked the forms in order to better suit his style of dual wielding.

Breathing Techniques:

Spoiler
  • First Form: Water Surface Slash
  • Second Form: Water Wheel
  • Third Form: Flowing Dance
  • Fourth Form: Striking Tide
  • Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought
  • Sixth Form: Whirlpool
  • Seventh Form: Piercing Rain Drop
  • Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin
  • Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow
  • Tenth Form: Constant Flux

Nichirin Weapon:

Spoiler

Dual Nichirin Katana

A42-KZ1008BLDZ.jpg

The twin nichirin katanas that Yosuke wields, named "Ebb and Flow" (ebb for one, flow for the other). The blades themselves have an ocean blue colorization to them, while the handguard is gold with the pattern of a red crowned crane, the mon of his clan. On the sides of his katanas, the words "Waves of Destruction" are carved.

Miscellaneous Information
Yosuke's Theme (Alternative) | Battle Theme (Alternative)

  • Yosuke's name is translated into the following: Yosuke - with the current kanji 洋 and 介, it's basically "ocean" and "help, assist" respectively, Mori - with the current kanji provided, it basically means "forest".
  • While there are two separate Mori clans, the clan that Yosuke hails from are the Mori that descended from the Seiwa Genji.
  • Yosuke's appearance is that of Takeshi Yamamoto from Katekyo Hitman Reborn, though more accurately it's of his Cambio Forma Version X.
    • A side note to this, the type of style Takeshi uses deals with his Rain Flame, Shigure Soen Ryu is quite similar to Demon Slayer's Water Breathing. The similarities between them can be seen, and as such I didn't want to use this appearance nor the style of Breathing, but I caved in and did it anyway. Only difference is that with the Shigure Soen, the user coats the weapon with the Rain Flames, while with Demon Slayer it's simply a visual aesthetic and not actually being coated with water.

Spoiler

Name: Hagane Kettei

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Slayer Rank: Adept

Appearance: (Reference Image or one paragraph description.  Height and Weight Optional.)

Personality:

Biography:

Spoiler

“What goes around comes around… in an endless cycle of pain.”

Hagane was born the son of a blacksmith and a toymaker. His first gift was an iron top which entertained him for many years, eventually becoming his lucky trinket that he keeps on him at all times. As he got older, his parents would find more advanced toys to give him, including his first yoyo when he was a teenager. He would learn many tricks with this toy, picking up various trade skills from his parents that gave him the skills to modify his own possessions, including adding blades to the sides of his yoyo and top. He would use these modifications to create weapons used to fight bullies and criminals in sketchy parts of towns he would visit, until he encountered his first demon. At that point he would attempt to create weapons strong enough to fight these creatures, but to no avail.

It wasn’t until a demon killed his father when Hagane began to take his fighting prowess seriously. He would train for years, learning everything he picked up from his parents to create the ultimate weapons that he would use regularly, becoming a master of the “yoyo and top” style. However, demons were still too strong, and too often he would find himself escaping for his life. It was not until he ran into another demon slayer where he learned the art of breathing, which he trained himself to do while having no other choice. After becoming one with his breathing and his unique fighting style, he was chosen to participate in the final selection, surviving the trial and, rather than receiving a sword, instead was offered to have his weapons of choice upgraded with new ore, which he happily accepted.

Once his new upgraded weapons arrived, he took this opportunity to go back to his father’s workshop to slay the demon that took his life. However, with his years of training, the victory was underwhelming, as he believed he showed it too much mercy with the swiftness of its death. He would then set out to find more demons to kill, this time focusing more on more brutal and painful methods that would cause as much pain and suffering as possible.

Breathing Style:

Spoiler

Metal Breathing
The Metal Breathing style is similar to Stone Breathing, however rather than visualizing controlling the Earth around them, instead they focus more on consolidating its elements into a much more durable material. The user visualizes various ores being smelted into one dense material in areas that are either striking or blocking, focusing on efficiency rather than raw power and endurance. Metal breathing offense utilizes maximum precision as well as expert knowledge on enemy anatomy and full distribution of force throughout as much of the users body as possible for maximum damage with the least amount of strain as possible. Likewise, defense with this breathing includes techniques inspired by the Wing Chun fighting style, utilizing full compression strength of the arms and legs to absorb more force than that of a typical block, which becomes even more substantial when used with a weapon.

Nichirin Weapon:

Spoiler

Onigrinder
An oversized yo-yo with a retractable blade, held by a wound-up roll of wire. Breathing style allows the user to control the spin of the head as well as the position of the blade as appropriate for the intention of the attack.

Ripspinner
An oversized top with a retractable blade along the perimeter. The user uses their breathing style to control its rate of spin as well as its movement, using special buckles to hold their feet in place as they ride on it. Rate of movement with breathing is limited, but can be manipulated to have the blade gain traction on various surfaces to travel at faster speeds.

Breathing Techniques:

Spoiler

Onigrinder - First Form: Eli Hop Strike
Basic attack where user launches Onigrinder using free hand to jut out the head in a direction of their choosing. Most basic attack with Onigrinder.

Onigrinder - Second Form: Walk the Dog
User releases Onigrinder to latch to the ground and gain traction for a high-speed rolling charge at the enemy.

Onigrinder - Third Form: Sleeper Shield
User launches Onigrinder into a sleeper spin, holding it out in front of them to block incoming attacks. The blade can be expanded to increase the size of the shield while adding an offensive element to anyone that tries to bypass it.

Ripspinner - First Form: Let it Rip!
Basic attack where user throws Ripspinner towards enemy with an expanded blade. Can be thrown vertically to gain traction on the ground for a higher velocity.

Ripspinner - Second Form: Spinner Drill
While it’s spinning, user expands the tip of the spinner out to take the form of a giant drill and burrow through anything in its way. An effective method to maneuver underground or take shortcuts through plateaus, mountainsides, or just very large hills.

Ripspinner - Third Form: Engraving Spiral
User expands blades along Ripspinner's perimeter and latches onto a large enemy, stabbing it repeatedly as it rides around it in a spiral until it reaches the top.

Combination - First Form: Pulverizing Flail
While riding on Corpsespinner, the user launches it forward and throws out Onigrinder to latch onto the top, expanding its blade to create a stack of spinning blades controlled by the wire attached to the yoyo, combining its shredding power.

Combination - Second Form: Ironstrom
User latches wire from Onigrinder to the spinning edge of Ripspinner while riding it, causing it to rapidly revolve around them at high speeds while dealing damage within a massive area, usually good for weaker demons in large quantities.

(W.I.P.)

Spoiler

"O' Blessed Spring Flower"

IO2Jheg.jpg IO2Jheg.jpg

Profile

Name: Akina Etienam
Age: 28
Gender: Female

Appearance: Akina is roughly 170 centimeters tall. Her short cut hair is naturally pink, just barely teasing the lobes of her ears. She was born with two different eye colors, one black and one that is the same shade as her hair. She has a slender build with moderate muscle tone that she has built up from her years of demon slaying. She will most often wear a pink and white kimono with budding cherry blossoms adorned across its waist (these are real cherry blossoms that bloom when she wears the kimono). When she is not wearing the kimono, Akina will wear a pink blouse with black and white shoulders and sleeves, and a breathable pink skirt. The bell around her neck belonged to her now deceased pet snake, Lori.

Personality:

Spoiler

Akina presents herself as a proud, soft spoken woman. She takes pride in her image and the name of her family that she carries. The idea of frowning turns her off, and she fights to keep her face in a smile, however small it may be. However, Akina has quite a temper. It may be hard to read her expression, because even when she's angry her smile does not fade. Rather, it is easier to tell when she's angry by her actions. This has surprised her parents, because Akina had always been their sweet, little flower. Sometimes, even she is taken aback by her own rage. That is not to say it is easy to make her upset. She is a very composed person who, over the years, has learned to mind and control that anger. But when she does allow those feelings to take root, it shows in an unmerciful way. The things that make her most angry are insults to her family and demons.
With that in mind, Akina is only violent when she absolutely has to be. More often than not, you will find her tending to the earth. She loves to garden, and is highly invested in fruits and vegetables. She adores insects, snakes, and the furriest of animals. She has a tender spot for beetles, rabbits, and the Tokara habu snake (of once she once kept one as a pet). Her favorite flower is the plum blossom, though her mother often hoped it would be the cherry blossom. She prefers grass that is not forcefully trimmed but beautifully let free to form and shape the land. She also enjoys standing barefoot against the dirt to feel the earth beneath her. In a quiet place where she can only hear the earth, she has a tendency to get lost in those short moments. If she can find such a place that is untouched by demons, it will be her favorite place to be.

Biography:

Spoiler

Akina's father, Adonis Etienam, hails from western Africa. Her mother, Hinata Yoshimasa, is Japanese born. She too was born on Japanese soil, but to pay homage to her mixed heritage, her Surname is African while her first name is Japanese. By coincidence, her name means "benevolent spring flower", or "blessed flower". Her right eye is discolored, matching her hair. She struggles to see out of it and has mostly relief on her left as a child.

Adonis fled West Africa's demons, powerless against them. He arrived in Japan toward the end of 1886. He met Hinata roughly one year later, and two years after that, Akina was born. What Adonis did not know was that Hinata was from a family of demon slayers. It was she who kept them safe for two years, as Adonis worked on their land and cultivated a farm. However, when Akina was born, Hinata realized she did not want to raise her daughter with such violence in her presence. Despite her best to keep demons at bay and allow Akina to grow up innocently, Akina would encounter demons on her own one late summer evening, at just four years old. A minor demon broke into the Etienam home, awaking young Akina before her parents. She discovered the distorted face of the creature with its maw agape, drooling over their floors.

A single scream escaped Akina's lips. By the time she finished screaming, the demon had been slain by Hinata. This was the only exposure Akina needed to shape her mind. Some months later, she had decided she wanted to, "fight the monsters. Just like mama."

Adonis did not argue, and Hinata could not persuade Akina otherwise. Though Hinata was talented, she could only teach Akina so much. But over the course of twenty years, Akina honed her body and her skills. Eventually, Hinata even handed down her own nichirin blade to Akina with which she used to defend their home from demons for two more years. But Akina wanted more. She wanted to be rid of the demons completely. And so, she would set out to find a mentor and join the Demon Slayer Corps. At twenty-four, she studied under a former Hashira for two years. It was then that she learned that her style was more fit to a hammer and chisel than it was to a typical nichirin blade. She mastered Total Concentration Breathing, and even went so far as to master Total Concentration Constant. While under her mentor's study, she also learned to better use her right eye. With Stone Breathing, she has learned to use her right eye to detect three types of changes in the earth: tremors, magnetic fields, and heat changes. After this time, she had her nichirin hammer and chisel made and sought out the best demon slayers around. At twenty-six, she joined the Demon Slayer Corps formally, and has been a slayer for two years. Now, through Stone Breathing, she has become a force to be reckoned with. Reaching a Master's status, with more than 3500 kills by her hands, she hopes to become a Hashira within the next five years. While there are many, younger people who have become Hashira before her, she harbors her goal and will not let go of it.

Combat Style

Spoiler

Slayer Rank: Master
Breathing Style: Stone
Nichirin Weapon(s): Akina carries a Nichirin Hammer and Nichirin Chisel. The hammer is surprisingly light, but masterfully crafted. It is more representative of a mallet, but Akina prefers to call it a hammer. The nichirin part of the hammer is gray. Engraved on its handle in Japanese Kanji are the words, "Crafter of Destruction". Her other weapon, a Nichirin Chisel, is much smaller and even lighter than her hammer. The end of the handle of her chisel is actually made with a thick, durable rubber. The nichirin part of the chisel is also gray. Engraved on its handle in Japanese Kanji are the words, "Shaper of Destruction". She keeps her chisel coated in Wisteria Poison when possible.

Breathing Techniques:

First Form: The Flower's Bloom - Akina strikes her chisel at its rubber end, causing it to spin as it flies forward. The spinning blade may not kill, but she always strikes the chisel so that the rubber end makes contact with a surface last, springing it back to her hand.

Second Form: The Land's Corrosion - Akina rapidly strikes at the most vulnerable joints of her target with her hammer, typically its legs and elbows, shattering the bones and rendering them motionless.

Third Form: The Snake Bite - A defensive stance where Akina places her chisel before her hammer. This allows her the most protection against an opponent, and, if she is struck, she is able to more quickly strike back thanks to the placement of her chisel. This becomes twice as effective if Wisteria Poison has been applied to her chisel before hand.

Fourth Form: Quake - Akina strikes her chisel with her hammer, driving it into the ground. The result is a wide range attack that ruptures the ground with multiple shock-waves, throwing her opponent off balance and likely picking apart their body with shrapnel, depending on the surroundings. It will splinter trees and destroy mighty boulders, resulting in a hazardous battlefield.

Option: World View - Akina focuses her mind and her right eye to better sense the world around her. With her right eye, she can sense the smallest of tremors, changes in magnetic fields, or heat. This requires intense focus, and often leaves her vulnerable.
