The two leaders listened in closely as everyone voiced their questions and concerns. Some had straight forward answers, and others, not so much. However, there was one that definitely stood out in the sea of questions, and was something they needed to address with great care. First however...

"A map of the gangs' territories?" Blues pulled up a holographic keyboard, typing away at it. "Give me to the end of the meeting, I should be able to make a semi-accurate map," He muttered as he typed away. Mr. E shook his head and walked over to Jet, placing a hand on his shoulder and leaning down to be level with him.

"There are two things you gotta do if he doesn't cooperate," Mr. E explained. "And I want you to listen closely, this is very important," He held up his hand in front of Jet, the palm open. "If you challenge him like Shannon says and you fail, take a breath to calm yourself. Then clench up your butt, and let your heart cry out, saying 'Get your head out of your ass!' as you throw a punch right into his big goofy face, okay?" Mr. E made a fist to put emphasis on that point. "And then after that, just keep looking for signs of the cult," The mage then looked over to Shannon. "Well, I certainly do believe telling you not to underestimate him won't exactly work. I will just say, watch out for his fiery passion and his calm soul. That combination has taken on every challenge and succeeded thus far,"

Then came the hardest part. They had to convince the Hearthome team about their mission. It wasn't as easy as Kyouji, Dread Knight wasn't a meathead like the duel champ, it would take a lot to convince him of their righteousness. However, before he could give an answer, Blues looked over.

"Your concerns aren't unfounded," Blues admitted. "Dread Knight probably will not join you, but at this moment, it's better to aim for the stars and miss than it is to lay on the ground and do nothing. He most likely won't attack you all. Raijin does bring up a good point, however. Your goals do likely align, and he might give you some important hints, even if he doesn't mean to," He then tapped a few buttons on the keyboard. "If he doesn't join you, then you keep looking for any sign of the cult. In fact, if you want, you could split into two groups, one to search for the cultists, and one for Dread Knight," At this moment, the duel disks of Team Hearthome beeped, and if they were to check them, they'd find a map of the city, with a look of different colors separating the areas, likely their map they were promised.

"Well, that's all we got time for now!" Mr. E announced as he clapped his hands to get everyone's attention. As he did, Barbatos walked up, placing small bento boxes in front of the members. "Here's some boxed lunches that Barbatos kindly took the time to make for you all, but in case that isn't enough," Mr. E walked over to Shannon, handing her a black credit card. He then spun around, handing Octavia a white one. "If you need something, these cards should help. Don't spend them all in one place~!" He clapped again. "Good luck to you all today!"

And so the group was divided again, this time between two vehicles. The team headed to Turbo City were leaded to an a big RV. There were places to sit, a TV, a bedroom, even a bathroom. In the very back, the D-Wheels were strapped against the wall so they wouldn't fall over. Gil sat up front, sitting at the driver's seat. "Well, everyone get comfortable!" When everyone was seated, he took off, humming as they left for the big city.

After about an hour of driving, they came to the outskirts of the city. "That's as far as I go," Gil said. "I'll be waiting for you here, good luck with your mission!" With that, the back of the RV folded ope, creating a ramp for the signs to drive their D-Wheels off of. Gil start to blast some music, waiting for the group to go. Zirco stood up quickly, walking over to his D-Wheel, starting it up and looking over to the city. It was a mess of roads, some rising high in the sky in a twisted maze. With a grin, Zirco started up his D-Wheel and took off. Time to find Kyouji.

As for Hearthome, they were stuffed into Barbatos's truck again, some inside the cab, some in the bed of the truck. The driver was quiet as they drove, it also taking about an hour to get there. Soon, they came to the city, the sky seemingly turning darker just by approaching the city. The atmosphere was much heavier compared to the lightheartedness of the prison. Barbatos stopped in front of a store, with a bank across the street. "We're here. I'll be here, waiting for you all," Barbatos said as he turned off the truck and leaned back, closing his eyes.

Tora Mori

Tora found herself standing in line with the others at their first actual briefing. On the outside, she stood stock still and attentive. On the inside, she couldn't move, partially being stuck there, frozen in fear, and partially because of the terrible sleep she had had the night before that left her brain in a very simplified and poorly functioning state. There they were, being given their first assignment and Tora had only managed to successfully summon her duel dragon a few times, and that was only because the testers had set up the field conditions just right so she could actually get the opportunity to do so.

"Let's talk about Turbo first. We're planning on sending Shannon, Jet, Tora, and Zirco there. The area is normally well guarded, as we have the current duel champ living there, but since his master, Jack Atlas, has disappeared, Kyouji hasn't been keeping an eye on the area. He won't even return our calls, the poor thing. So, we'll have you four check the area out, and if you meet Kyouji, try to talk some sense into him. I'd say duel him but... Well, I don't think that's a duel any of you could win right now."

Well, the saving grace is that at least they would be territory that's familiar to Tora.

Gil drove the team to the city, but that was as far as they went with the truck. After that, the back was opened and their D-Wheels were given the signal to drive off. Zirco was the first to jump on his and rev right out of the gate.

"Well, hopefully he's able to find Kyouji and beat him in a duel before we get there, right?" Tora asked the remaining teammates with a nervous smile as she started up her own D-Wheel and drove out the gate with the others.

Taking her meal and the credit card with a curtsy, Shannon neatly tucked the latter away. While she had been warned once more about Kyouji, she tried not to take it to heart. Sure, her companions other than Zirco seemed less than confident... But perhaps the brute and herself would be enough. Who was she kidding? Of course it would be enough. More than enough. Hopefully they never had to show what Zirco truly had up his sleeve.

The ride was fine. The RV was... cozy, she supposed. Nothing stood out as overtly negative to her. The time spent was relatively peaceful. Quiet, even. Curious, she figured Zirco had a lot to say to her, though maybe not. Even after they were kicked off, he left silently. He wasn't acting nearly as brutish as the day before. Of course, the target of his aggression was gone... But didn't he say he wanted a piece of her as well? Strange boy. And there was one thought nagging her the whole way...

"Well, hopefully he's able to find Kyouji and beat him in a duel before we get there, right?"

"Mm, I don't know about that..." Shannon prepared her own D-Wheel as she replied to Tora, "While he is certainly strong, do you think he's going to respond well to Zirco? After all, he has something that I think will ruin our chances in an instant should they duel... I hate to leave you two back here, but I can't let him go alone~"

Revving up her bike, she took off, cutting ahead of the other two. While Zirco had proven his ability the day before, letting him handle this alone could not end well.

Not while he held Hot Red Dragon Archfiend.

If nothing else, the Hearthome team could be given a map of gang territories in Hearthome. Natsumi couldn't expect it to be perfect, of course, but even something with the right general ideas was good enough for her. Knowing what to look for and what to avoid was good. At the same time though, Natsumi didn't like the sound of the difficulties surrounding Dread Knight. Finding him, convincing him, defeating him if it came down to it. All of those things lined up to make this a tough job. But that was why Natsumi and the others were here; to handle precisely that kind of job for the good of everyone. Right?

"We're here. I'll be here, waiting for you all."

The truck ride to Hearthome was a lot like the one Natsumi had taken to the grocery store yesterday. Except, much longer. This heavy, gloomy atmosphere... it seemed like this was definitely still the Hearthome Natsumi knew for a few years before being drafted into the project. Natsumi got out of the truck bed, already on guard, keeping her Duel Disk under her sleeves and her hands in her blazer pockets. If she saw someone like herself running around in town, she'd probably think they were easy pickings. Someone like Octavia too, come to think of it. The least easy-pickings-looking of the group was probably Raijin. Once the other Signers had gotten out of the truck, Natsumi looked further down the street.

She hated it.

Natsumi hated the fact that the city was still in this state. Even more than that though, she hated that looking at its state of disrepair felt nostalgic. "Home sweet home, I guess," Natsumi sighed. Turning to look at the others, Natsumi cleared her throat and proposed how to proceed. "Now that we're here, we've got two options. We can stick together, or split up into groups of two. I'm only suggesting the latter because Octavia and I are both from here, mind you, as I'd rather like all of us to stick together." Strength in numbers and all that. But splitting up meant covering more ground in search of Dread Knight. Truly a conundrum. Time was of the essence, but that didn't mean Natsumi couldn't want to play it safe here of all places.

"Why, we challenge him, of course. While they may think we won't win... We can at least show our resolve, no? Though, I must say that our dear Mr. E is underestimating us, and losing is not my planned outcome~."

Jet wondered, however, if Shannon was a bit overestimating their abilities as well. After all, Zirco was on another level, at least compared to him. Possibly, he might be the weak link in the entire group, but that would be later discovered if anything. However, the next thing Mr. E said in regards to his question.

"There are two things you gotta do if he doesn't cooperate. And I want you to listen closely, this is very important. If you challenge him like Shannon says and you fail, take a breath to calm yourself. Then clench up your butt, and let your heart cry out, saying 'Get your head out of your ass!' as you throw a punch right into his big goofy face, okay? And then after that, just keep looking for signs of the cult,"

He truthfully, would want nothing more than to say that in general to everyone, especially the Turbo Branch of KaibaCorp, but alas, he couldn't bring himself to attempt it. And he doubted that he would do such a thing to Kyouji as well...after all, he is literally the Duel King and student under the original Signer: Jack Atlas. Z-Zirco could go toe-to-toe...maybe...but there's no way me or my Dragunitys could...

After the RV ride, Jet had a moment of weakness. He mounted his D-Wheel and began to follow suit after Zirco, Shannon, and Tora. However, upon exiting the RV, he looked down one side that the others went down...and then the other direction. Part of him wanted to leave...right now...just be done with it. Almost on instinct, however, his arms began to direct his D-Wheel in the direction of the others.

He had been drilled with being this good little soldier that Akihiro wanted, so he had no choice but to comply with the initial plan.

Jet accelerated and began to catch up towards Shannon and Tora...just for a short moment until Shannon drove off a bit faster. He began to accelerate a bit faster as well, getting on Tora's one side. "...I-I guess we should keep up...otherwise we'll lose em..." he stammered out, going a bit faster to do his best to catch up towards Shannon. Though he had to admit...his D-Wheel handled a lot better than what it did when the Turbo Branch was working with it.

He'd definitely have to thank Gil about this when he returned...

"Your concerns aren't unfounded, Dread Knight probably will not join you, but at this moment, it's better to aim for the stars and miss than it is to lay on the ground and do nothing. He most likely won't attack you all."

Octavia glanced at the ground for a moment as she rubbed at her chin lightly, it wasn't really fair to be too harsh on them for this one, cause they weren't wrong necessarily. It was better to make an attempt than to just give up before even trying. It still didn't seem like the best plan though, to hope that this guy would agree to help them. At least there was a sort of backup plan to scout and try to find the cult. Octavia just propped her head up on her hand for a moment, considering how they could go about this as the rest of the discussion seemed to pass on without her input, not that she really had much to add now.

The beep on her duel disk did catch her attention, the map of the city causing her to narrow her eyes a tiny bit as she looked at it. Sure, two years had passed since she had been able to see what Hearthome was like before, but all the gang territory lines were drastically different, it was going to be awkward for her, without a doubt. Nothing that she had been used to before was going to apply now.

"Well, that's all we got time for now! Here's some boxed lunches that Barbatos kindly took the time to make for you all, but in case that isn't enough," Mr. E walked over to Shannon, handing her a black credit card. He then spun around, handing Octavia a white one. "If you need something, these cards should help. Don't spend them all in one place~! Good luck to you all today!"

Octavia blinked at the card being offered to her, a little look on her face as she coughed lightly. She wasn't sure how useful this sort of thing would be for them, considering the state that Hearthome was in... But she took the card anyway, giving Mr. E a small, appreciative smile as she did, "Thank you. I'll make sure that we don't spend too much of it in the first place." She nodded her head to the strange, strange man as she took the card, before standing up as she took a deep breath. Time to go.

The truck ride was a little unnerving. It didn't seem safe, going to the city in such an... Open manner, anything could go wrong with them exposed like this. She knew that Blues and Mr. E probably wouldn't put them in such foolish danger, so it was probably safe, but that didn't mean her nerves weren't firing all the same. It had been a long time since she had properly been in the city, she had no idea how things were faring, where the most dangerous points of the city were anymore, so much changes in a few years really.

The truck came to a sudden stop, causing her to wobble in her place as she snapped to attention. The gloomy city wasn't much different than what she remembered on the surface, but she knew all the mechanics underneath were changing all the time.

"We're here. I'll be here, waiting for you all."

She closed her eyes as she brought her hood up and over her head, just enough to hide her hair from the outside world, standing up quickly as she took a little look around. It was a quick, to the point scan of the area around them, it didn't seem like anyone was lurking too closely by, and she stepped out of the truck and gave Barbatos a nod.

"Home sweet home, I guess,"

Octavia stifled a small laugh as she shrugged her shoulders, "It's not the best place, but it's home." She glanced towards the others as she tapped at her cheek, "...I don't like splitting up yet. Not until we have some sort of lead," Her voice was notably sterner than it had been while they were back at the base, lowering in pitch, as if she was trying to keep it lowered intentionally, "Once we get some idea of where to go for both, then we can think about splitting up. But it's a big city and even if we comb over it in two separate groups, it wouldn't change much. Stick together and be ready for the worst."

She rubbed at her cheek lightly, as if she was reconsidering what she had just said, "Though, if we gotta split up, this is where I would do it. Two of us start with the store. Occasionally people will check on them for missed supplies if they've been raided, we can try and see if anyone is doing that... Or maybe squatting there," She made a little motion towards the bank as well, "And if that's functional, we should see what's going on there. They might have info too. So the other two can check there and we can just meet up back here."

Kiyoko nodded as Raijin made his statement on the matter, and listened to what it was that they were told to do before getting ready to ship out to the city of Hearthome. Once they had arrived and stepped out, Kiyoko took stock of her surroundings. The girl was not in anyway familiar with how a city should look. The only one that she could remember was the one she had seen not a day earlier on her way to the prison. As such, her limited sample size of one was being heavily contrasted with the city she was looking at now. Even then, she could tell it lacked the same kind of vibrancy or life of the city prior, as well as seeming to be just in general more run down. If anything, the city she was in now reminded her of her old orphanage. Which she could only think there was far more villainy here then anywhere else.

Even still though, the girl deferred to the judgement of the two people who seemed to be locals here before forming any plan of action as to where to go first. After she heard both Natsumi and Octavia give their peace, the girl stated, "then let us keep together for the time being." Looking to Octavia, the girl kept her usual blunt expression, though also seemed oddly excited as she said, "as you seem to know the lay of the land, you can lead us to this store place first."

The group traveled in Barbaros' truck, Raijin electing to take the back as to not only be able to lay down but also to get away from everyone else. He took the time to simply glance at the map given to him in his disk, although he wasn't really reading it per say. Unfortunately he wasn't alone in the back, riding with Natsumi who seemed to be on edge. He remembered the girl had been talking about Hearthome - her and Octavia - and what they were saying wasn't pretty. Still, he didn't care.

It couldn't be worse than Taccon City.

Eventually, they reached their destination and were left to their own devices. One of them immediately offered to split up, causing Raijin to immediately shake his head in disagreement. Splitting up meant he'd have more responsibility on this stupid mission; not good. He let out a sigh of relief when they ended up going against the idea, although it seemed it would be an option for later. He simply shrugged, turning towards Octavia. It seemed like the plan was already set for him - good. Everything was going according to his plan. If things kept going like this, he wouldn't have to do a thing. "Well, let's get going." He added well after they decided to follow Octavia, tossing his hands behind his head.

As Zirco drove down the roads, he realized something was very odd, something that made absolutely no sense, especially in a city such as this.

The roads were completely empty.

Not one other driver could be seen on the empty roads. The four of them just had the wide open streets to themselves. Looking to the sides, Zirco couldn't see any people outside, at least no one he could see as he sped by. This couldn't be right. It was in the middle of the morning, people should be out, headed to work, or going to school, or something. Why was no one around then?

"Anyone else finding it odd we don't gotta weave through traffic?" Zirco asked, his voice breaking through the wind in the radios their helmets contained. "Turbo is a busy city... right?" He honestly didn't know, but he expected more than... this!

Suddenly, the sounds of sirens filled the air. Looking behind them, Zirco could see three motorcycles slowly gaining on them. Each one had the word Security painted on them. A new voice crackled over the speakers.

"You are breaking the curfew, and thus in violation of Rule 390-53. Head home now, or come downtown with us," The voice commanded. Zirco gritted his teeth. They didn't have time for this!

"Tora, help me out, will ya?" Zirco suddenly hit the brakes, rapidly dropping behind the group, and directly into the path of one of the Security Enforcers. Said enforcer quickly swerved to the right, accidentally heading off to a different road. While this happened, Zirco held out an arm, clotheslining a different enforcer, causing him fall off his D-Wheel and crash into the wall. One middle finger to the third officer later, and Zirco had the third enforcer following him down the same path the one that had swerved away went to. "Tora and I will duel these guys and keep 'em busy. You two find Kyouji or the cultists!" Zirco called out as he soon disappeared on the road, said road climbing higher into the sky.

As the group had decided what they wanted to do, a sudden explosion came from the bank in front of them. Three bank robbers rushed out of the establishment, bags of cash in their hand as they jumped into a car, the wheels squealing as they took off. While this in and of itself wasn't unusual for the area, the next sight certainly was... although not for people that had lived here for a long time. What seemed to be a skeletal horse with a flaming suit of armor leapt out of the bank, and rushed down the street, chasing after the robbers.

Certainly a sight to behold.

To those undeterred by such a sight, the store was not that far off. Behind the counter was a bored looking teen, obviously not into the job, and shocking, it seemed decently stocked, if not a bit dirty. There were snacks in the front and center of the store, and drinks in the back, ranging from soda to beer. There also were a few people wandering in the store, although if they intended to pay for their food remained to be determined...

"Anyone else finding it odd we don't gotta weave through traffic? Turbo is a busy city... right?"

As Jet caught up to the others, he heard Zirco over the radio via the helmet. And what he said, did indeed get him thinking as well. All the times he attempted to escape and tried to leave KaibaCorp Turbo, it was always busy...so why was it not bumper to bumper traffic or why didn't they have to weave through it?

I-It...it just d-doesn't add up...

However, things began to add up...but not really. Sirens were heard behind them and from what Jet saw, it was a total of three of Turbo Security's finest. What was going on?!

"You are breaking the curfew, and thus in violation of Rule 390-53. Head home now, or come downtown with us!"

C-Curfew?! R-R-Rule 390-53...? W-What the hell is that...? Jet thought, trying to figure out what was going on. To his knowledge, there wasn't any sort of curfew or Rule 390-53, so was that something brand new? He quietly began to curse Blues and Mr. E for not giving them any updated information regarding such an enforced law or rule. ...d-damnit...what do we do?

"Tora, help me out, will ya? Tora and I will Duel these guys and keep 'em busy. You two find Kyouji or the cultists!"

Jet was curious if he heard that right, but apparently Zirco was enabling a plan that literally was getting him and Tora to Duel Security and let him and Shannon head off to find either signs of the cultists or Kyouji. This was a hell of a plan to Jet, especially since it was obvious that Zirco had seemed to do this once or twice before, just given his reaction to all of this.

"U-Understood Z-Zirco...w-w-we'll keep going...maybe s-s-see if we can g-get in touch with G-Gil..." Jet nodded, going harder on the accelerator, leaving this to Tora and Zirco. He figured this would be better, since these two might be better suited for this, after all, he wasn't 100% his Dragunity monsters would be a match for Security. At the same time, he attempted to make a call to Gil, really hoping he'd answer. ...j-just pick up...please. A-Also...if one of our targets wants to come out...p-p-please do...

The plan seemed to be to stick together. Natsumi was fine with that. In fact, she preferred it. Checking in on the current situation of Hearthome with the nearby store and bank would be a good starting point in the search for Dread Knight and those cultists. Yeah, that bank. The one that was getting robbed. Once upon a time, when she was a little girl, that sort of scene frightened her. She became desensitized to it pretty quickly, though. This was just another statistic to her now. What she wasn't used to was the skeletal horse and flaming man bursting out of the bank in pursuit of the robbers. Now that she hadn't seen before.

But whether that was some vigilante or another, or more gangsters, was unclear.

Even then, the real dilemma was if the group should follow the horse or ask around for info. Or it would be... if Natsumi saw anyone in this group with the means to keep up with a car and horse, as in, not just their own two legs. She couldn't imagine Barbatos would help with their wild goose chase, either. Best to ask for information then.

"Fancy another shopping trip, Octavia?"

Natsumi led the way into the store, glancing around at its shelves. Surprisingly well-stocked. It probably had to do with being on the edge of town. Maybe. Natsumi could pick up her own food in just a bit. Right now, she had questions that wanted answers. And so, she approached the boy at the counter. He clearly wasn't into this job. Natsumi didn't blame him.

Pointing in the general direction of the bank, Natsumi asked "Could you tell me more about that horse that was chasing down those bank robbers, if you know anything?"

"Anyone else finding it odd we don't gotta weave through traffic? Turbo is a busy city... right?"

While Shannon had never been to Turbo, the lack of traffic was rather alarming. This place was named for Turbo Duels, and had a large amount of the population owning vehicles of some kind, right? Where were they? Was it connected to the cult the others were dealing with...?

As the sirens filled the air, it became a bit more apparent. The curfew warning managed to ease her worst fears, at least a little. However, this was still a problem. As she was about to issue orders, Zirco beat her to it, telling her and Jet to head on. She didn't like taking orders from the hothead, but... He knew the area better than her, and he probably had a better idea of how to handle security, if his reaction was anything to go by.

"... Be safe." Shannon spoke softly, a slight shake in her voice. Why was she uneasy? She didn't want Kyouji to see Zirco's dragon, so this was an optimal result, regardless of who gave the order. She just had to keep her chin up! Turning to Jet and hitting the gas, she gave him a thumbs-up. "Alright then, let's get moving! I'm sure the two of us can handle it! Just keep your chin up! Even if you fall, I'll catch you!"

Octavia winced a little bit as she saw the sudden rush of people running out of the bank, a low cough escaping her as she shook her head quickly. "O-Okay, that's definitely not good. We might want to try and stay low, just in case there's more..." She paused for a moment, skeletal flaming horse riders were definitely not on the list of normal sights, and it definitely got her to pause as she pondered the next best move in her head. It made sense to try and get more information about what the hell was going on there...

"Fancy another shopping trip, Octavia?"

Octavia just paused, a confused look crossing her face for a moment, "You really wanna go to the store when that just happened? Alright by me, just... Making sure." She shrugged her shoulders a tiny bit as Natsumi led their way into the store, a small sigh escaping her as she did. Every part of her body was screaming that they should follow that break in if they wanted to get the best results... Or maybe that was just her being a bit antsy. She honestly couldn't tell at this point. Her hands slipped into her jacket as she nodded the other two with them, motioning for them to enter the store as well, "If you need a drink or something, feel free to... Grab something, I guess. Just don't stand out."

She entered the store behind Natsumi, watching as the girl made her way towards the poor employee who was working at the counter. Holding a stable job in this city had to be a death sentence practically. She watched the few people who seemed to be meandering their way along the aisles, her attention focused on them for a moment as she mumbled to herself, "It's just quiet in here..."

She shook her head a tiny bit, she was starting to get lost in doubting things. She grabbed a Panta out of one of the cases near the back of the store, taking a little glance at the other shoppers. Whether any of them actually were here to buy things might've been up in the air, but they at least had the chance to look around and see if anyone of note was hanging around... And it really didn't look like there was. Everyone in the building looked normal, at least, as normal as you look in a town like Hearthome. She brought herself towards the front once again, joining up with Natsumi as she shook her head a tiny bit and tilted it back towards the residents in the shop, no one looked too out of place to her. She turned her attention back to the man at the counter, setting her drink down as she did, "...Is the Arena is still going strong? I'd like to stop by there again. I just wanna know if it's worth the trip."

"Crap..." Raijin muttered under his breath as he saw the commotion happening in front of them. It would seem like they'd have to start actually doing shit a lot sooner than he had expected. On the bright side, maybe they'd meet up with their vigilante friend. After all, these flaming horsemen are probably not the norm, even in a shit hole like this. For whatever reason, however, the group seemed far more interested in the nearby shop instead of the bank robbery they had just witnessed. "Fine by me." Raijin thought out loud, following the two natives into the shop.

He was surprised how well stocked the shop was, considering the neighborhood. The kid running the shop looked less interested in this than Raijin did. Raijin ignored the other people in the shop, glancing around the place. "It's been a while since I've stepped foot in a store like this..." He said to no one in particular, before a realization came to him. "Hey... I wonder if..." He immediately broke away from the group, instead opting to search around the place for a bit.

He eventually returned to the group, two Thin Gins in his hand. "So, y'all gettin' anythin'?" He asked, waving the meaty snacks around.

With it decided that the group would not split up, they had begun their trip to the store only to have that shortly interrupted by a sight most curious to the blonde haired girl. Firstly, there was a large collection of people running away from an explosion and making their way into a nearby car. Kiyoko had thought the explosion itself was strange, though people running away from it surely wasn't. The giant flaming horse that followed, however, certainly was not within Kiyoko's list of things that were everyday occurrences. The girl marveled in awe at the armored equine creature, and started trailing ahead of the group to continue looking at it as it galloped out of sight. There was a clear sense of awe on the girl's face, wanting to rush after and see what more would happen with this beast, the girl turned around to voice this only to see the decision to continue heading towards the shop was probably the best idea. Kiyoko's face dropped in disappointment for a moment but went back to its usual serious self as she began to follow the others into the store.

As the group entered the building, Kiyoko was greeted with yet another unfamiliar sight - an increasingly common occurrence across the past few days. Kiyoko looked at the food and beverages that seemed to be arranged in racks all around with some degree of curiosity before her attention was shifted to Natsumi's question, remembering why they were in here to begin with. The clerk looked up from his old phone, an annoyed look on his face as he looked over them. "Y'all tourists or somethin'? Or some weird news people? Anyways, horse was probably Dread Knight. If it isn't, then the impostors are getting a lot more convincin'."

"I see..." As it had turned out, they had already had a run in with the person they sought to find. Kiyoko could only consider this a stroke of good fortune on their end, and continued asking, "does Dread Knight travel around like that normally?"

"Sometimes he rides a dragon," the clerk offered. "And some people say they see him on top of the tallest buildings, looking over the city and brooding before hopping from ceiling to ceiling. That one's not confirmed. Why do you all wanna know?"

What fortune! Their information gathering had yielded such results as his mode of transportation and places of interest after such short questioning. Feeling invigorated by all of this, Kiyoko simply and matter of factly stated, "we're here looking for him. We have matters to discuss." It was then that the girl noticed that both Octavia and Raijin had come over, and as Raijin asked his question, the girl simply cocked her head to the side as though she didn't fully understand what the question was.

Zirco looked over his shoulder, seeing that the plan had worked and that the cops were chasing him. This worked out just fine for him. "Tora!" his voice cracked through the radio. "We're gonna make these two chase us for as long as we can before we duel them! Try to put as much distance between us and the others as we can!" He looked over his shoulder. "Let's try to avoid a two vs two, okay?" He said as he sped up, slowly putting distance between him and the others.

Jet would find that no one else was on the other side of his call, Gil not picking up at the moment. Was it because he to was arrested? Perhaps he was taken by the cult. Perhaps, and likely the most reasonable answer, was that he had fall asleep as he waited for them. The road they were taking was leading them to a grand stadium, one that stretched into the sky, and looked as if it could fit a million people, but it was also one that was devoid of people.

Well, it wasn't completely devoid of people. In fact, they could see someone entering it as they pulled up to the massive building.

"...Is the Arena is still going strong? I'd like to stop by there again. I just wanna know if it's worth the trip." The cashier shrugged, clearly disinterested.

"Last I heard, yeah, but I don't listen for that kinda shit," the cashier admitted. After that, some other girl had a bunch of questions, which he answered as lazily as he could. Finally, there was an end to the questioning.

"We're here looking for him. We have matters to discuss."

"Yeah, you and the entire underworld of Hearthome," The cashier muttered. "You're gonna get hurt if you keep chasing 'im down,"

"So, y'all gettin' anythin'?"

"Yeah, are ya? I ain't getting paid to answer tourists' questions," the cashier quipped. Suddenly, the Panta that Octivia had grabbed was snatched by a man with blue hair wearing very normal jeans and a t-shirt who carried a sleeping girl with white hair dress in a lolita styled dress on his shoulders. He cracked open the drink, chugging it all down in one go before tossing it over his shoulder, the drink landing in a trash can behind the counter.

"Alright, ladies and assholes of Hearthome," He called out. "The store's having a bargain sale right now, it's called grab whatever the hell you came in here for and get the hell out!"

"That time already, huh?" The cashier muttered as he stood up, heading out from behind the counter and heading out the door. The other customers quickly complied, grabbing food they wanted and rushing out the door. The man in questioned folded his arms and waited for the group from Kaiba Corps to get their stuff and leave.

Team Turbo

As Jet & Shannon pulled up to the stadium - otherwise devoid of people - they could see someone entering. A suspicious person entering a stadium all on their own? It would be foolish not to follow them. The room into which the two would inevitably follow her could only be described as chaotic. Rocks, bottles, and other odds and ends were scattered about seemingly at random, but it also seemed like there was a method to the madness of this setup.

It was also upon entering this room that their cover - if they were trying for any - was blown, as the girl inside immediately perked up, turned around to face the two, and eyed them over. She didn't look impressed. "You shouldn't be running around after curfew," she said, as if she wasn't doing the same thing herself. "Haven't you heard? It gets pretty dangerous around here after that point. Who knows what could happen to two average joes wandering into a weird room with a girl they've never seen before?"

"Isn't that curious?" Shannon asked her companion, mostly rhetorically, "We've seen barely a soul, and then somebody just... waltzes in to where we're headed? It seems like something we should investigate!"

Grabbing Jet by the hand, she pulled him along with her, trying her best to be sneaky. Of course, she was absolutely beaming with excitement, so it probably didn't mean much. And Jet was probably uncomfortable, but she was there to take care of him, so it would be okay! He needed a little tug, anyway. Things seemed to be going alright until the duo followed the figure into a room, only to be caught red-handed.

"Oh my, it seems we were noticed... Well, it is no matter. After all, we're no plain Janes! We're the chos-"

"Shannon."

The girl froze as Luster appeared before her, a harsh look in his eyes. She had started to let something slip at the wrong time. Of course. There would be time for that later.

"Ahem, rest assured that is not the case. Honestly, you look rather plain yourself. If it's so dangerous after curfew, why are you here all alone?"

"Yes, the what now?" The girl looked directly at Luster. "It's very rude to interrupt a young lady when she's speaking, you know. As for me, I suppose it's the reverse?" She paused for a bit, thinking about that statement. "Yes, the reverse. I'm not out alone despite it being dangerous, see. It's dangerous because I'm out at all. Or something like that. Or was it, I'm out alone because it's dangerous..."

Shannon nearly drew back for a moment, while Luster remained stoic, unmoving, though Shannon could tell he was agitated. This girl could see him? Did this mean she, too, was chosen? Or was this girl the opposite?

"Oh, really? And what's so dangerous about you?"

"What's so dangerous about you?"

“That... but...” Shannon stammered, bewildered by the girl’s inane comeback. “You’re the one claiming you’re dangerous!”

"And you're here confronting me," the girl retorted. "Meaning that you're either dangerous yourself, or incredibly stupid."

“We are here because we are special!” The signer flaunted, puffing her chest out and placing her fingers against it daintily, “and there is someone we need to find!”

"What a coincidence! I'm also trying to find someone!" Holding out her right hand, the girl proposed "How about we help each other find these people we're looking for?"

“After that bit about being dangerous...? That sounds a bit fishy. What do you think, Jet?”

Just as her spirit seemed to feel, Shannon felt like there was something off about this. She had gone in with excitement, but now she felt like a fight was brewing. Adjusting herself, she nodded to Luster who faded away again, awaiting her partner's response. Poor Jet, he was probably s confused over who this girl had addressed.

Jet waited and waited and waited for something to be crackling through the radio, but alas...it was obvious no one would answer. It was this moment that almost had the young man miss Akihiro right in his ear rambling along about some scientific crap...almost. Nevertheless, he and Shannon continued onward, before being forced to stop as the road brought them to a grand stadium. Jet had seen it a few times, but he didn't really understand the significance of it at the time...then again...why would he care?

"Isn't that curious? We've seen barely a soul, and then somebody just... waltzes in to where we're headed? It seems like something we should investigate!"

While Shannon was right about this was being weird, Jet didn't get a word in edge wise or anything before he was dragged off by the hand to follow this strange, suspicious person. D-Damnit...why a-a-ask the question i-if you'll just drag me anyway... he thought, though while Shannon might've thought he was just some helpless puppy, it was more or less on the cautious side...and his survivalist side was starting to stir. Jet had been trained by Akihiro to watch and learn, to see things...a power of perception almost, though it was something he was still attempting to work on.

However, while apparently a pair of stealth masters...alas they were found out by the young woman who now stood before them. And what struck him as odd, was that Shannon seemed to stop mid-sentence and look over at a place that had no one there...and this mysterious girl also did that and addressed something to the same blank space. That was something he remembered...to others, before they left, he would be seen talking to nothing when in actuality...it was his Crystron friends. Shannon had a Duel Spirit, bottom line.

"And you're here confronting me. Meaning that you're either dangerous yourself, or incredibly stupid."
“We are here because we are special! ...and there is someone we need to find!”
"What a coincidence! I'm also trying to find someone! How about we help each other find these people we're looking for?"
“After that bit about being dangerous...? That sounds a bit fishy. What do you think, Jet?”

Oh now s-s-she w-wants my o-o-opinion... Jet thought, before he looked at the young girl. "S-She's obviously...s-s-someone d-different from others. S-She could s-s-see your Duel Spirit..." he paused, most likely blowing Shannon's mind. "...n-n-no I-I can't see it...b-but used to...a-and I know the t-tell s-s-s-signs..." Jet looked over at the young girl again, his eyes slowly narrowing at her before he began to slowly and sluggishly step in front of Shannon. "...h-h-how c-can we t-t-trust you? ...w-with that talk of b-being dangerous at f-first...and then i-immediately m-making a 1-180...a-after we mention we're l-looking for someone...things a-aren't seeming right."

“After that bit about being dangerous...? That sounds a bit fishy. What do you think, Jet?”

"S-She's obviously...s-s-someone d-different from others. S-She could s-s-see your Duel Spirit... n-n-no I-I can't see it...b-but used to...a-and I know the t-tell s-s-s-signs... h-h-how c-can we t-t-trust you? ...w-with that talk of b-being dangerous at f-first...and then i-immediately m-making a 1-180...a-after we mention we're l-looking for someone...things a-aren't seeming right."

"Well, that's unfortunate," the girl muttered. "I really am looking for someone." For a moment, and only for a moment, Shannon would be able to see something behind the girl. By all means it seemed to be a duel spirit, but it seemed less like a thing and more like a distortion in space, almost like a glitchy screen. She'd even be able to hear something, but not be able to make out its words.

"▪▐◄◄❖ˍ▼"

The obscured spirit behind the girl disappeared, as she turned her attention back to the two people in front of her. She seemed particularly fixated on their hands. "Definitely not."

"Oka~y! I'd like to apologize for my crummy first impression!" Gesturing to the scattered odds and ends around the room, the girl continued "All this setup is supposed to help me find someone important, I've heard. And with the Duel King missing, it seems all the more urgen--" The girl stopped dead in her tracks. As if she'd become a statue. Suddenly, a look appeared on her face. It could best be described as a mixture of looking like she coming home to a spectacular meal, and the kind of face a demented artist might look at his magnum opus with.

"That's who you're looking for," she concluded. "The Duel King. Queen? No, King. Definitely a King. I don't know why, but you're looking for him. Right?"

“Who? I’m sorry, I’m not exactly big on current events,” Shannon bluffed, strangely grasping one of her arms and cocking her head, “We’re just looking for an... acquaintance of ours.” Jet nodded slowly, going along with Shannon's bluff, unsure it would actually work.

"Not knowing who the Duel King is though... what, were you raised in an underground lab or something?"

“Haha, maybe. We are rather sheltered, after all... but who was it that you were looking for?”

"...w-w-were you l-l-looking for the Duel King...?" Jet asked cautiously. "...i-i-it was a l-little weird y-you'd just ask that out of the b-blue."

The girl didn't answer at first. Instead, she started gathering up the scattered objects in the room. Only to set them back down in a different arrangement. "People who were raised oblivious to the outside world, but willing to do the right thing for someone they've never heard of... heroes, basically. People like that. I've got a problem that needs solving, that I can't solve, and I need today's heroes... or was it yesterday's heroes? No, that's not right. I need... tomorrow? Look, the important thing is unless you're something special, you won't be much help!"

“Well, help can be arranged. I assure you we are special, even if not legendary heroes... or even up to date. We can prove it, if you really want.”

Jet gave a look to Shannon, one of caution but at the same time one that seemed to be asking, "Are you really sure about this?"

“Why not? If we watch each other’s backs, we'll be fine.”

"Proof would be nice. Are you about to show me a police badge or something?"

“Would you really call those security guys heroes if you’re ignoring curfew? Surely someone willing to seek out someone in these conditions is suited to be a hero?” Shannon tried to persuade her. As much as she wanted to bear her mark, something felt off to her, even now.

With a snap of the fingers, the girl exclaimed "Precisely! Security isn't what I need right now! I need something like..." The girl picked up a notebook and pencil among the scattered loose ends, drawing something up, and presenting the two with a rough doodle of a person with what seemed to be some sort of dragon. "Like that, you know? Heroes have dragons. Everybody knows that... or wizards."

"M-May we have a...a m-moment please...?" Jet asked, moving slightly as he grabbed Shannon's hand to pull her back some from this girl. Then, he began to speak in a hushed tone. "O-Okay...so what's the p-play here...?" he asked, looking at Shannon with a serious demeanor.

“Easy... she saw my spirit. I’m surprised you know about them, but Luster is a dragon knight... so let’s try that again. I don’t think showing our marks is necessarily right, though. Especially since she has her head in the clouds...”

"I-I agree..." Jet nodded, also taking in the comment she made about him knowing about it. "...and I-I'll...I'll explain later. R-Regardless...I'll follow y-your lead."

Shannon placed her hand on Jet’s shoulder and smiled softly. Genuinely. “I’m looking forward to it.” She turned away after that, bowing slightly. “Sorry about that, Miss...?”

"Alex," the girl answered, scooting a few of the objects in her bizzare arrangement a little bit here and there. "Pleased to meet you. I don't need your names if you don't want to hand them out."

“I believe you’ve already heard them both,” Shannon laughed lightly, slightly covering her mouth, “But I’m Shannon, and this is Jet. As for proof... Was my Duel Spirit not enough? He’s quite the paladin, no?”

"He is, but heroic people can have wicked duel spirits or do evil things. It goes the other way round, too." With a resignated sigh, the girl tossed the notebook aside, and put her hands in her pockets. "Alright, listen carefully. What I'm about to tell you, you can't repeat to anyone. KaibaCorp is evil, and must be stopped."

This immediately struck a chord with Jet, as he could feel himself tensing up slightly. He did his best to keep his composure, but this wasn't what he was expecting. Was best to play dumb for the time being. "...w-what...?"

"You heard me. Evil corporation. Just like in the movies and books. They kidnap kids right off the streets, I tell you. Nobody ever sees them again. I bet they're behind the missing people cases cropping up around the Greater Domino Area, too. The lucky ones get to leave alive... is what I've heard. I don't believe a word of it, myself. So, we're going to find out where they're keeping everyone, and set them free! Who knows, the Duel King might be among them too."

“Are they now...? Again, I don’t keep up with current events. I hardly know they exist, and I’m sure Jet doesn’t know any better, he’s too skittish. But... what does that have to do with your request?”

"It's obvious. One girl against an entire corporation? I'm pretty confident in myself, but not to that extent. So I need someone powerful and special on my side. Unless..." Similar to how she had earlier, Alex stopped dead in her tracks like a statue. Unlike the last time she came to a sudden conclusion however, her expression and voice alike dropped, losing their scatterbrained playfulness and bordering on hostile.

BGM

"You're one of them!"

“My, what a sudden conclusion...” Shannon signed and shook her head, shrugging, “You aren’t much for words, are you? Jet, stay back.”

Jet didn't exactly do what Shannon said right then and there, he just stared at Alex for a good long time. He wanted to actually make a move, but Shannon had given an order. Dutifully, the young man finally complied, hating himself for doing it.

"Fine by me." Alex's hands emerged from her pockets, though her left hand seemed to have a glove on it now. She rolled up her sleeves, revealing the duel disk on her right arm, and activated it. "I'll learn far more about you like this than through idle chit-chat anyway."

Kiyoko was a bit confused by Octavia's question, wondering what this "arena" place was that she was talking about. Before she had actually asked about it though the girl learned, or rather reaffirmed, that Dread Knight was indeed a popular subject amongst the people of Hearthome. The girl didn't really seem to mind the danger that the man mentioned, if anything she seemed more resolved knowing that their task would was likely to pit them against wrongdoers by accident. That would certainly make the task of dealing with criminals easier. Before she could ask any more questions to the man, though, the group was soon interrupted by the appearance of a blue haired man and white haired girl in very clashing and strange attire to one another.

As the man seemed to order everyone to simply take what they wanted and leave, Kiyoko looked curiously at all the customers. Kiyoko had never been to a shop before, and she didn't really know how the whole process worked to begin with. But given how the adults at her old orphanage used to talk and how the clerk seemed to act, the girl got a feeling that there was something definitely off about this whole thing. Looking to Octavia and Natsumi, as they seemed to have the best handle on this place, she simply asked, "is this a custom or something?"

"Alright then, I'll leave it to you." Shannon slid her deck into her duel disk, extending her free hand out, open palmed, "Would you like to go first, or shall I?"

"You can have the first turn," Alex replied, already drawing her starting hand. "Consider this a test of character. Or something."

"A test of character?" Shannon drew her hand, smiling, "My, I believe I've already proven that... After all, I'm a leader in my own right."

--D U E L S T A R T--

"Souls... that's a good place to start. The rest could be a little better, but I think this can work." Shannon thought, looking over her hand intently. She didn't see her ace, but her arm was throbbing all the same, the plan clear. With a deep breath, Shannon took two cards from her hand, placing them on the far ends of her disk. "First, I'll set the Pendulum Scales with Magicalibra and Dragoons of Draconia!"

The room dimmed as two pillars of light appeared on either side of Shannon, illuminating the area with a faint blue glow. On her left, a sentient scale, rose from the ground, creaking with a slight mechanical sound. On the right, a lizardman ruffian with a rifle, atop a dinosaur with flames burning bright on parts of its body. Numbers appeared beneath the pair of Pendulums, with 5 and 2 appearing respectively. With a flick of her wrist, another spell appeared on the field, shining brightly in the dimmed room.

"I call to the other side of the Pendulum! Pendulum of Souls appears! Once per turn, I can use this card's effect to change the scales of my Pendulums, as long as their number doesn't go below 1. So, I'll change them to scales 6 and 1!"

The numbers between each ticked, Magicalibra up as Dragoons went down, a noise like a clock filling the area.

"Then I'll activate Unexpected Dai, allowing me to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from my deck, and I choose Angel Trumpeter!"

The spell dissolved into a circle of light, a small fairy-like creature emerging from it. It spread its leafy wings as it raised a flower horn to the sky, filling the air with a soft melody as it played. With a nod, Shannon placed another card on the field, a young boy with long brown hair appearing next to the tiny flower fairy, gently twirling the air around his fingers to make a small tornado in his palm.

"Then I'll normal summon Risebell the Summoner. But he won't be around for long! Let's go!"

Shannon threw her open hand to the sky as Angel Trumpeter began to play more loudly. The tune swelled until its body turned translucent, then disappeared entirely with only four green rings left of its form. Shannon reached forward, the rings assembling into a loose column around Risebell, the boy's body also turning translucent, then into three brightly shining lights. As the lights formed up directly between each of the 4 rings, Shannon's arm throbbed harder, causing the girl to wince.

"From the parallel dimension, the dragon's roar echoes! The wind whips in this world where speed is king, unifying the cries of the powerless! Appear now from beyond space and time..."

As Shannon brought her hand back down, bright green light filled the room from the column of rings and lights, blinding the three people present. A cracking noise was heard as a line seemed to tear down the center of the light, dispelling it as glass-like wings spread and filled the room with gusts of wind.

"Clear Wing Fast Dragon!"

The legless dragon roared loudly as its summon concluded, landing where Risebell had been standing, though greatly dwarfing him. Shannon placed one hand on Clear Wing and sighed, the pain in her arm fading a bit.

"Finally, I call to the Pendulum of Souls! Return to the field, Risebell!"

The sky began to swirl above the field, opening slightly so that a lime green light could shoot down from it, taking the form of the young boy kneeling next to Clear Wing, blocking its body. Amidst the noise, a sound like a coin falling down a slot could be heard, and Clear Wing's attack rose from 2500 to 2800.

"Whenever I Pendulum Summon, I can place a counter on Pendulum of Souls, and each Pendulum Monster on the field gains 300 ATK per counter. With that, I'll pass the turn to you."

An interesting first turn. But nothing beyond breaking. Alex drew her card, looking at her hand, and pausing a bit, as if reading the cards over again.

"First, I set my pendulum scales with the Scale 5 D/D/D Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok, and the Scale 10 D/D Savant Kepler!" In a similar fashion to Shannon's own scales not long ago, two monsters rose up from beneath the ground behind Alex. On the left, a large demon sitting atop his throne, staring with disdain at the opposing field. On the right, what appeared to be a blue man made up of mechanical parts. "But I won't be using them just yet. First, I activate the effect of D/D Swiral Slime in my hand! By discarding itself and another monster, I can perform a Fusion Summon. Using my D/D Swiral Slime and D/D/D Doom King Armageddon, I summon D/D/D Flame King Genghis!"

ATK: 2000

In front of the girl, a monster clad in armor, wielding a red sword appeared. "Next, I activate the pendulum effect of my Abyss Ragnarok! When a D/D monster is Special Summoned, I can summon another D/D monster back from my graveyard at the cost of taking 1000 damage. This also means any battle damage you take is halved, but that's a small price to pay to summon back D/D/D Doom King Armageddon!" As the monster best described as a head sticking out of an armored crystal appeared next to Genghis, Alex grinned. "Even better, because Armageddon is a pendulum monster, he gets the benefit of your Pendulum of Souls."

ATK: 3000 -> 3300

Alex: 8000 -> 7000

"Furthermore! The effect of Genghis activates. When another D/D monster is special summoned, I can summon a D/D monster from my graveyard at no cost. Since I don't have any other options, I'll bring back D/D Swiral Slime in defense mode, just to be safe."

DEF: 200

"And now, Battle Phase! To start things off right, let's get rid of that dragon. I attack Clear Wing Fast Dragon with D/D/D Doom King Armageddon!"

"I activate Clear Wing's effect!" Shannon smirked as the dragon's wings lit up. "I negate any further effects from Genghis for the rest of the turn, and his attack becomes 0!"

"Hmmm... unfortunate. That's some damage saved from you I guess. But even if it's halved, you still take the damage from this battle!"

Shannon: 8000 -> 7750

"I end my turn."

Well, the good news was that the Arena was still the Arena. The less good news was that it seemed everyone was looking for Dread Knight, not just the signers sent here for that purpose. Go figure. The even less good news...

"Alright, ladies and assholes of Hearthome! The store's having a bargain sale right now, it's called grab whatever the hell you came in here for and get the hell out!"

Was that life in Hearthome was still life in Hearthome. She'd be lying if she felt particularly guilty about shoplifting. She used to, once upon a time, but before long it was just as natural as buying something legitimately. She even had to actively remind herself to stop at the cash register during yesterday's shopping trip, instead of just waltzing out with the goods. Not really intending to start a scene, Natsumi nudged her fellow signers, giving Raijin and Kiyoko in particular a "Welcome to Hearthome life," before heading to the shelves. Gummy worms, gummy worms... none in stock.

What a shame. A total failure, if Natsumi dared say so herself. None of the information they got seemed particularly outstanding, it was right back to life how she was used to after that, and she couldn't even get some gummy worms for herself to snack on.

Fine. These will do, I suppose. A bag of ring-shaped candies, gummy in texture with a sour flavor. Something new would be a nice change of pace. "You heard the man," Natsumi said, carrying the singular bag of snacks and a small bottle of milk. She was here to get a snack, not the whole store. "Get what you want. We're on a bit of a time crunch, after all."

Standing off to the side to watch this Duel between Shannon and Alex, it was obvious this was going to be quite the interesting one for him to watch. It was a Duel between Pendulum users. Shannon brought out Clear Wing Fast Dragon, which was an interesting monster to see. He had been told about Pendulum Synchros but he was still trying to wrap his mind about the possibility of how these things possibly work, but here it was...right in front of him.

Alex on the other hand, she was running D/D.

D/D...a-and Shannon c-currently has C-Clear Wing Fast D-Dragon... he thought, watching intently between the two. ...a-at the same time, with b-b-both of them b-being P-Pendulum users...S-Shannon's advantage w-with Pendulum of Souls i-is out t-the window...

While he was worried about what the outcome would be, Jet had some sort of feeling that Shannon would pull out a victory. Was this him having faith in someone on this little motley crew they called a "team"? Possibly, but Jet doubted it. He just figured that, aside from Hotaru, everyone else had to be strong in Dueling to even be around here in Project Crimson. She'd be fine...he figured.

...s-s-still...I-I may have to disobey h-her order if anything happens... Jet thought, exhaling slowly, hoping silently that he wouldn't have to step in.

"And now, Battle Phase! To start things off right, let's get rid of that dragon. I attack Clear Wing Fast Dragon with D/D/D Doom King Armageddon!"

"Hmmm... unfortunate. That's some damage saved from you I guess. But even if it's halved, you still take the damage from this battle!"

"I should have negated the effect... Got a bit greedy there," Shannon closed her eyes as her dragon was destroyed, the pain in her arm intensifying for a brief moment. As she clutched at it, she flashed her opponent a smile. "Not bad. Didn't expect someone in Turbo to be playing Pendulums, other than myself. But now, it's my turn! Let's make some magic happen!"

Shannon drew the top card of her deck dramatically. As she pulled it back to look at it, a smile crept onto her face, before immediately placing it onto the field. As it formed, what looked to be an unlit Jack-O-Lantern rose from the ground, quickly followed by a witch's hat and a cape attaching themselves to it. Its features didn't move, but a child's laugh could be heard from the being that appeared next to Risebell.

"I normal summon Hallohallo! And I'll immediately use it and Risebell as material!"

Shannon held her hand to the sky once more, a slight red flash being able to be seen through her sleeve. Hallohallo turned into 3 green rings, soon followed by Risebell becoming three stars once more, a crack appearing in the sky above the pillar.

"From the next timeline, the true king's soul burns bright! His loyal scion descends, burning away those who dare stand before the king! Appear now on this plane, Red Wyvern!"

The light of a Synchro Summon filled the room once more, obscuring the scene, but not the sounds, of the dragon's appearance. Screeches and cracks were heard as it appeared, a flap of its wings dispelling the light and filling the room with hot air. The burning wyvern reared its head back, flinging it forward with a burst of crimson fire that overtook Armageddon, burning it to nothing.

"Once while I control Red Wyvern, it can destroy an opponent's monster that has higher attack than it does! Then I'll activate the effect of my Pendulum of Souls, changing the scales of my monsters from 1 and 6 to 2 and 7! And then... Pendulum Summon!"

The arc in the sky opened once more, producing a familiar green energy, as well as a new purple one, hitting the field with a small quake. On either side of Red Wyvern now stood Hallohallo and Risebell, their attacks both 1400.

"And as you know, Pendulum of Souls gains a counter when I pendulum summon, so both of my Pendulums gain 600 attack! Battle! Red Wyvern, destroy Genghis!"

With a loud screech, the dragon shot another burst of flame, destroying the D/D/D and dropping Alex's life points to 6600. However, when the smoke cleared, a two-headed werewolf-like monster growled at Shannon and her monsters.

"When I take damage, I can special summon D/D Orthros from my hand. I summon him in defense position."

"Well, that's a shame. However, Risebell can still destroy Swirlal Slime!" Risebell snapped his fingers, a clay doll falling down on top of Swirlal, causing bites of goo to splatter around the area. "Maybe I should have let Hallohallo handle that... But, I still get this effect!"

The Dragoon in her Pendulum Scale suddenly shot its gun into the air, its mount bellowing. Reaching up, Shannon caught the 'bullet' as it fell back down, before reaching to her deck and pulling a card from it.

"When a Normal Monster destroys a monster by battle while I control Dragoons of Draconia, I can add a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from my deck to my hand. And I choose Galaxy Serpent! However, I must now pass the turn back to you, Miss Alex."

This is more or less the entire old OOC from YCM. Will see about adding in the character stuff later. Also note that not all the information is quite accurate atm but I wanted to keep it as true to what it was (I did remove a few things though).
Well, didn't add the character stuff but hey, don't need that anymore! RP Completed.

Extraordinary individuals on Earth have existed since the beginning of recorded history, or even before then. As long as man has looked up at the stars and wondered what higher powers exist out there, there have been a select chosen few who can bridge that gap. Gifted with powers, whether supernatural, technological, alien, or simply exceptional among humanity; they have rode the crest of the wave of history, shaping it at every turn... whether for good or for evil.
Over the last few centuries, as the modern geopolitical sphere solidifies, so does the culture of superheroes. Multiple groups arise, each one policing their corner of the globe, trying to stay disentangled from the worries of the rest of the world. There are so many, in fact, that it took a few days before the full picture came together one hot summer day in 2018.
Seven young heroes, vanished into thin air. And when they return, the stories they tell will only be overshadowed by the secrets they keep...
      GUIDELINES
Please read and understand NCM and section rules before posting.
You have creative freedom when making your character, but please remember that GM word is final, and you may be asked to change things if deemed necessary. There's a fine line between over-the-top and just plain silly: I expect you to know where that lies. I won't be restricting your potential powers, but please be reasonable and consider how your character's abilities will work in the context of an RP.
(Note: Characters with a "cosmic" origin or power source, ex. aliens or Green Lantern-esque heroes, must be cleared by me prior to applying, and will be held to greater scrutiny.)
Being accepted into this RP means that you are committed to seeing it advance. If you end up falling inactive, you may be dismissed from participating. When posting, please let at least two people go before you before posting again; and aim to post at least once a week. If for some reason you'll need to be inactive for an extended period, please let the hosts know so they can write around your absence.
As of right now, I only want one character per player. If you are competing for a particular position against another applicant... well, tough. I'll pick applications based on how I think the characters will overlap and interact with one another--we're following the trope of Superhero Speciation. Finally, six characters max will be on the Young Guardians, meaning I'll only accept five other players.

      timeline
This is by no means a complete history: feel free to expand on it in your app. (Please forgive my poor attempts at Google Translating Russian.)
1900's While empowered individuals as a concept have existed since the dawn of time, the idea of costumed villains and vigilantes only became culturally widespread with the advances of the 20th century.1940 The "Golden Age" of superheroics begins a year into the Second World War: this was when heroes were deployed to the front lines for the first time as tactical ultimatums. The war ends with a two-pronged attack. The French Légion de la Gloire and the British Division 10 moved in the Western theater, and the Soviet красные знаменосцы (Red Pennants) and American Sentinels took the East. Notably, this avoided the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Rather, the trigger for the Axis' surrender was when a Soviet hero named Огненное Знамя (Fiery Banner) went insane and razed the city of Dresden to the ground, incinerating nearly one million Germans. (He would later be executed for war crimes, which set off future international tensions.)Sep 2, 1945 After the end of the war, the primary world powers gathered at Dresden to sign into account the Dresden Accords, a list of rules for deploying superheroes under national orders. As a result, heroing became a mostly-national phenomenon: international scenarios were rare to the point of irrelevance.mid-1950's An unintended consequence of the Accords was the rise of global super-crime, mostly by the shadowy organization M.I.S.T. Against the tension of the Cold War, which was only held at bay by the tenuous balance of powers, this globespanning group plundered and spread terror, lead by the mysterious and charismatic Gray Mask. These two factors are considered to be the beginning of the "Bronze Age" of heroes, where realpolitik eclipsed a unifying foe.Mar 4, 1983 This state of uncertainty fell with a bang! with the invasion of the K'rrik, a race of insectoid aliens looking to strip Earth of her resources and subjugate her citizens. Humanity suddenly found they were not alone: and although they unified in the face of such evil, they were on the back foot of a number of days until the arrival of the Cosmic Legion (name subject to change).Mar 17, 1983 The tide turned, and within two weeks the K'rrik invaders were beaten back, but at the cost of millions of casualties. March 17th became the Day of Memory, an international holiday to commemorate the loss of life. A side effect of the Legion's new presence on Earth was the acceleration of spacefaring technologies, letting humanity quickly establish lunar and Martian outposts.JUNE 2018 A group of seven young superheroes make their first entry into the Otherworld after being abducted in their sleep. One of their number is killed by monsters shortly after arrival, dropping the count to six.JULY? 2018 Present day... maybe? Time's passage is dreamlike and uncertain in the Otherworld, so it's a best guess that it's been a month. application code

In the Year 20XX, a strange phenomenon happened across the globe.  The next step in human evolution had begun, and the first Quirk had been recorded!  A baby in China, born with the ability to become completely invisible!  Soon after, many more reports of children being born with strange abilities were also confirmed.  These abilities would be referred to as Quirks, and they would be heavily monitored by the government.  Naturally, the world became a paradise full of Heroes, but the term was more akin to vigilantes more than anything!  With crime also high on the rise, due to the lack of benefits for using Quirks for good, the Government stepped in to enforce law.  The Hero Licensing and Restriction Act was passed, ordering all vigilantes to become of use to the Government.  Many would sign away their rights, but would gain profit from the common folk as a public safety provider.  However, there are many who still refuse to conform to this Government ruling, and have been labled outlwas.
With the HLRA in place, this meant that new heroes would have to be taught proper ways to conduct themselves, if they wanted to become official licensed heroes.  And this is where your story begins.  The U.A. Academy has finally opened it's doors, and is accepting it's first Freshman class!  Will you be able to pass the test, and get your Hero License?

      Mr./Ms. ----
You have been scouted for your talent to attend our school.
As a result, you have been selected and we invite you to join us as the Ultimate ----
Included is an orientation guide for Hope's Peak Academy.
That’s what the acceptance letter said. Sixteen students received this letter, each one skilled at something to the point where they were the best in the world. Sixteen students, each one scouted individually by the prestigious school. There’s no reason that anyone would decline this offer, after all, it’s said that anyone who graduates from Hope’s Peak Academy has their future made.
And lucky you, you’re one of those sixteen students.
Teenagers from around the world will be coming to attend Hope's Peak Academy, and soon, you'll be meeting with the other fifteen students that make up the class. You'll make friends, you'll overcome challenges, and you'll hone your talents to a point where you'll be set for life!
      Pwuhuhu…

Of course, not all sixteen students will come from this lousy place! That would be, like, totally boring!
I’ll be accepting a number of lucky students from this delightful place for an exchange program! Maybe four... Or five, who knows?
Well, not really an exchange… You’re just coming to this prestigious academy! Think of it as more of a kidnapping. Or a hostage situation!

But don’t worry, it’ll be a ton of fun, everyone will have a good chance to learn and grow!
