Season 1, Episode 1: Go and Gather all the Stars

Domino City. A city that has stood the test of time, surviving many onslaughts of the forces of evil, and the forces of ego. It stands as a shining monument to the game of Duel Monsters, being home of Kaiba Corp, the largest and only distributor of the game.

Reffo City. The smallest city of them all. It's a peaceful place, with the most non-duelists in the world. Famous for its inns and restaurants, it is the perfect place for retirement.

Taccon City. A city of wealth and knowledge. Academia relocated to this city, and has been teaching many the art of dueling. Many bright and powerful duelists come from their doors.

Turbo City. The center of Turbo Dueling, and the keeper of the Momentum Reactor. Life here is fast paced, and never slowing down, with card games on motorcycles running rampant on the streets.

Hearthome City. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. The local government is in shambles, being ran by the local gangs. However, a light shines in the dark hour...

Cradle City. A city where dreams can come true, or where they can be crushed in the blink of an eye. This is where stars are born, and where they show the world what they're made of.

Each city is different, but they have one thing in common. Secret experiments have been conducted in every city, and now the fruits of those labors were coming together...

5:13 AM, Domino City

The sun was barely rising over the horizon, but the CEO of Kaiba Corps was already filled with turmoil. The man was barely in his twenties, and he swore all this work would kill him. He sat behind his desk, his sunglasses covered eyes scanning over reports and notes. He couldn't believe it. He literally had inherited Kaiba Corp for over a month and all hell was already breaking loose. With everything going on in the world... and the old Signers missing... he'd have to do something he never wanted to do... Taking a deep breath, he grabbed his phone, calling up a secret number.

"Yes, this is Blues Kaiba. Initiate Project Crimson,"

5:37 AM, Reffo City
Tucked away in the corner of Reffo City, there was a business simply known as "Tenjoin Barbershop". The people would find themselves here, getting haircuts and generally having a pleasant day. What they didn't know was that beneath the surface, far below where people could see, there was a lab, inhabited by a few scientists and one lone teen. Said teen was awake despite of the fact it was so early, due to the pain in his right shoulder, the one that marked him as both something special and something rejected...

Zirco looked at the walls, the dull, blank, white walls. For the past thirteen years, these walls were both his prison, and the only place he was truly safe. There was only a bed and a bathroom here... there wasn't even a TV here. However, he was told now that his mark, the Right Wing, had manifested, he would be able to leave this place, to meet others like him. Granted, he was told that over a month ago, but it would happen... soon...

The door to his room swung wide open, causing Zirco to look up. His handler, a younger woman in a business suit stood at the doorway, her arms folding as she stared at the shirtless teen, obviously waiting for him to wake up. Zirco only groaned and picked up his pillow, weakly tossing it at the woman.

"Oy, oy, c'mon Hakuna Yamada, the experiments were done over a month ago. You don't gotta wake me up this early," Zirco muttered. He only grinned as he heard Yamada inhale sharply, obviously trying not to snap back a comeback.

"Look, it's time. You're going to meet the others today," She managed to say, causing Zirco to sit up. "I'll expect you to be ready in fifteen minutes," Zirco's grin only grew wider as he leapt out of his bed, clad only in boxers.

"Ya got it, Ms. Yamada!" He said before rushing off to get ready. Yamada shook her head, smiling a little before she headed out. It was barely 10 minutes later when Zirco rushed out, showered and dressed in his best clothes, ready to go.

7:26 AM, Satellite
Zirco wasn't sure where they were going, but they sure were going there in a hurry. They made it to Domino City, and he expected them to stop somewhere in the city, but it seemed that was not the way it was going to go down. They instead began to drive across the old Daedalus Bridge, headed to the Satellite district. Zicro had heard stories of this place, how a man named "Yusei Fudo" grew up here and how he would match him but... that's all they were to him, stories. Did the guy even exist?

They drove to an old building, one that looked a bit rundown to be honest. It had large walls surrounding the yard of it lined with old, rusted barbed wire. It looked like an old prison... actually, come to think about it, he was sure he read the word 'Prison' on the sign they passed by as they went through the gates. Aw crap...

He was soon ushered inside, where he could see old cells and the like lining the walls. It was a prison! Son of a---. Before Zirco could make a run for it, however, he heard a voice call out.

"Ah, the first one here...," The voice itself was playful sounding, all while being soft and mysterious sounding. Zirco then noticed the speaker, a a snow white haired man with a white cloak and playful looking eyes. "Zirco, the bearer of the Right Wing, right? Interesting, very interesting," He went back to reading his book. "Well, let me know when the others are here. We'll start answering questions then," He lazily waved a hand to a large round table, one looking as if it was to seat 10 people. Zirco looked confused, but he took a look at Yamada, who nodded to him, so he flopped down at a seat, leaning back and placing his feet on the table.

"Alright, Snow Rabbit, I'll do whatcha say for now, but this better be good," Zirco finally said.

OOC

Spoiler

Alright, so, just have your character wake up, give us a bit about them, then have them headed over to the prison in Satellite. Here we go!

Another day. Deep beneath the cracked roads and dilapilated buildings of Hearthome City, a hidden laboratory - far too pristine to belong in this garbage fire of a city - sounded off with the ringing of an alarm clock. 5 o'clock in the morning, on the nose, just like every day before it. Natsumi shut the alarm off as soon as it started ringing. Ever since successfully manifesting her mark, the details on the next step forward had been kept a tight secret that she couldn't get to. What was the point of having this at all if she was going to just waste away in some hidden facility!? Natsumi had been up long before the alarm clock she'd set to wake her went off; she'd been getting restless lately.

And, much like any other day, mere seconds after the alarm went off, the door to Natsumi's room opened up. This place wasn't exactly luxurious, but it was more than good enough for her. "Good morning, Natsumi," her handler greeted. "Up early again, I see?"

"Yes. The experiment was a success, so what does KaibaCorp plan to actually do with us now?"

"Ahh, today's your lucky day. You're going to find out. Come, it's time we got out of here and had you meet up with the others."

"Finally," Natsumi sighed in relief, eager to get started with... whatever it was she was supposed to be doing.

"This is the place?" Out of Hearthome and into Satellite. She wasn't sure if she was happy or sad to call this place a step up from home. What she was sure of, however, was that there was no way this was where the rest of Project Crimson would be meeting up. It was, of all things, an abandoned prison. "You must have made a wrong turn or something."

"Nope, this is the place. You get going now. Wouldn't want to keep the others waiting, would we?"

"...very well." With only a small amount of hesitation, Natsumi walked into the prison, making more of an effort to not default to her usual limp. She was pretty sure it wasn't working, judging by the look the white-haired boy gave her when she walked in, before confirming that she was Natsumi, bearer of the Foot mark, and promptly returning to his book. Not exactly a warm welcome, was it? Looking around, Natsumi spotted a table for ten. Quite a few more than she was expecting, to be honest. Natsumi had expected to have to work in a group of five, maybe six people. This project must have been a greater success than she'd imagined.

The boy already sitting there - the only one that got here before her, as it turned out - looked like trouble. It would probably be in her best interest to associate with him as little as possible. Natsumi sat down at the seat furthest from him, and turned her attention to the door, sitting upright and waiting for the others to arrive. Hopefully they wouldn't keep her waiting for long.

Knock, knock, knock.

The sound of the rapping on a door could be heard echoing outward. A man with short black hair stood outside the door, sighing.

Knock, knock, knock.

With reluctance he grabbed the door's handle and said, "alright, alright already. I get it."

As the door was opened, the man was greeted with the sight of a girl, at about the same height as the man with long blonde hair, standing there. A slight look of impatience on her face, the girl lowered her hand, which looked ready for another round of knocking, and stated, "you're late."

Looking at his watch, the clearly tired handler merely looked back to the girl mumbling, "no, you just get up way too early. Seriously, it should be illegal to have to come in this early." The girl's eyes narrowed into a glare as he merely waved her off. "Right, sorry. But, today's your big day so, are you ready?"

Looking to the mark on her arm and then looking back she nodded. "There's nothing more to prepare."

With a faint grin on his face the man said, "well spoken. Let's get going."

The two had spent the next hour or two in the car together, merely driving through Domino City en route to their next location. Most of the time was spent in silence, with Kiyoko looking out the car window taking in all the sights of the city around her. The people bustling around sidewalks and streets, the tall buildings that stretched high into the sky and the other cars that seemed to stretch on as infinitely as the road before them did. The girl looked at it all strangely, unsure of what to make of what felt like an entirely alien world to her. Furrowing her brow she simply asked, "hey. What is Project Crimson?"

"Dunno." The man answered, the same as he had every time asked this question prior. And just like every other time, Kiyoko still couldn't tell how truthful he actually was. "However," her eyes shifted to the man. "Today you'll meet someone who does know." Curious, before Kiyoko could ask another question the handler spoke again. "Take a look outside kiddo, don't get this kind of view everyday." As he chuckled at his own joke, Kiyoko turned to look, with her eyes going wide at the side of the sea expanding in either direction as they crossed the Daedalus Bridge.

"Amazing..." she muttered. As she continued to look, her eyes went from wonder to something more troubled. "Hey..."

"Hm?"

"...Nothing."

"And here we are." The man had parked the car next to an old, run down building in a less populated area of the city.

Getting out of the car, Kiyoko felt strangely more at ease here and began to walk towards the door of the building. Turning back to face her handler, who hadn't actually left the car and bowed towards him. "Thank you for all you've done these past few years."

Being unable to hold back a small laugh at this unexpected gesture, the man simply said, "what are you an idiot? Most people wouldn't be thankful for this." Kiyoko stood back straight, though her expression didn't seem to have changed from it usual neutral state. Waving her off, he said, "well, good luck in there kid." With one final nod, the girl walked into the abandoned prison before her.

Walking inside, the girl made her way forward until she was greeted with the sight of a few others already sitting at a round table for ten and a man with snow white hair sitting around. The girl looked at the man, both strangely dressed and with a strangely cheery demeanor to him that off put Kiyoko. Though, she didn't do much more than nod when he announced her to the room as Kiyoko and the bearer of the tail mark. Due to her shirt not having any sleeves, the others in the room would be able to confirm this themselves, as the brand shown clearly on her left arm. The girl looked at the others, giving only a nod of acknowledgement before taking her seat.

Deep inside of a hidden facility within Cradle City, a teenage girl awoke. The sun was just beginning to rise, although she didn't know it. She hadn't seen the sun in years. But that was just one of many trials she had to overcome, and she had long since made peace with it. Sitting up in her cot, she grabbed her brush and began to tend to her hair. Flowing, beautiful, with the colors of the rainbow seemingly shining through it, despite her dimly lit cell. Standing with a stretch, she smoothed her nightgown off and walked to the door of her cell, knocking on it.

"Jacob, I need my best suit for today. I trust it was taken to the cleaners?"

"Of course, Ms. Almaz."

By all accounts, the girl's behavior did not make any sense. She seemed to be locked in a room with little-to-no comforts, but she acted as if she was the queen of her castle. And, if the speed with which the door opened and a clothing rack was pushed in was any indicator, she probably was. The girl examined the black suit, looking for any wrinkles, lint, or other issues... and smiled softly as she found none.

"Perfect. Thank you, Jacob, leave the door unlocked and I'll be out when I'm done getting dressed."

-----

Walking down the hall with Jacob, her handler, the girl seemed to be in charge of the facility. Headed towards a destiny she had been informed of the night before, the girl hummed softly, watching her prison leave her sight for the last time. And, in a way, she would miss it. It became clear fairly early into her stay that she would not give them any trouble. Protocol was followed strictly early on, but they had loosened the rules for her with time, realizing that she was determined to get through it, whether she chose it or not. Her room being locked at night was about the only thing they actually enforced, and that was just a formality.

After all her trials, all the experiments, the girl had finally manifested the mark of the chosen one earlier this month. And today was the day where she would meet the "others" she had heard about for so long. Would she get along with them? Would they follow her lead, as the most chosen among them? Well, of course they would.

Shannon Almaz was born to be a hero. A leader. A savior. Looking at the mark on her arm, the dragon's head looked fierce and foreign to her, yet somehow... perfect. The true mark of the leader of this group to be formed. Surely, this new power would serve the world well. And Shannon had taken the mantle upon herself with her teeth grit. With arms outstretched. Truly, she had overcome to reach this point.

-----

As Shannon and her handler stepped out of the car, the girl raised a brow. This dump was where her story would begin? It didn't seem like much, but... She would take what the world gave her. With a somewhat sad look on her face, Shannon turned to Jacob and embraced him, the older gentleman hugging her in return.

"I'm going to miss you, Jacob. Thank you for all that you and the others have done for me over the years."

The old man furrowed his brow as Shannon thanked him and closed her eyes, letting out a sigh and making sure his appearance was back to normal before she opened her eyes. He was worried for the girl, but it was out of his hands.

"Of course, Ms. Almaz. We wish you the best."

Wiping a tear from her eye, Shannon turned away and nodded, taking her first step towards the prison.

"I'll live up to what you all have given me."

-----

Shannon sat down at the table with a smile on her face, her hand clutching the mark hidden underneath her right sleeve. Here she was, with her new peers. Her new family. And why should she be nervous? She was there to guide them. Lead them. Her hand was trembling with excitement, of course. With a deep breath, she opened her mouth to speak, her sweet voice flowing from her lips like a melody.

"Nice to meet you all. I am Shannon Almaz. I look forward to working with you all, and I hope to be a good example."

Tora Mori

This morning started the same as every other. By now, Tora expected that she would have been used to it, but it never got easier each time it happened. At 4:30 on the dot the door to Tora's bare-bones dormitory burst open to the sound of a blaring air-horn. Standing in the doorway was a very tall, well-built woman with very short black hair and a thin scar running from her right eyebrow down to where her neck met her jawline. Tora awoke with a loud yelp, practically leaping out of her cot and landing on the ground in a heap of limbs and bed sheets.

"WAKE UP, SLACKER. IT'S TIME TO GET A MOVE ON!" The woman shouted, planting the air-horn down to her hip.

"Y-yes ma'am!" Tora shouted instinctively.

"THAT'S MISS KATSUKI TO YOU, SLACKER. NOW MOVE!"

Miss Katsuki was not Tora's original handler. Originally she was assigned a kind lady, but this was quickly changed as Tora had given them a difficult time. Tora was never a kid known to be problematic, but from day one of experimentation she did all that she could think of or stomach to get out of it. Then, she was assigned Katsuki, a handler to "whip her into shape". She insisted on being called by her first name, as "it means victory and that is the path that you will learn from me". Of course, Tora was only ever called "Slacker", for her performances in dueling as well as other tests. Miss Katsuki said that Tora would have to earn being called by her name.

Every morning had the same routine: running, stretching, exercises, practice drawing cards, more running, and finally when it seemed like Tora would pass out, breakfast. At first it was never this hard, but once Tora's mark manifested, Miss Katsuki started working her to the bone. However, today was different, as after breakfast Tora was immediately lead to a vehicle waiting for her outside. Then Tora remembered: today was the day that she would be moved to the other facility in Domino City, and her stomach sank at the prospect that she would continue to be stuck in this program.

The drive from Turbo City to Domino was long and boring. As soon as they had left Turbo City, the roads and the layouts became a lot more empty and boring, the routes just simple grids without anything of the sort to especially accommodate duel runners. Eventually they arrived at the facility. They weren't the last, but they certainly weren't the first, One by one they introduced themselves, mostly girls who were all more finely dressed and done-up than Tora who, in her hoodie and sweatpants, hair still tangled and disheveled from her running this morning, looked completely unkempt in comparison. Soon, it came to her turn, and Tora had not realized she was slouching in her stance until Miss Katsuki smacked Tora in the middle of her back.

"Stand up straight and introduce yourself!" Katsuki barked.

"H-Hello! M-m-my name is Tora M-mori! P-please to meet you all!" Tora said, bowing perhaps a little too deep, and so quickly she felt the blood rush to her head in an instant. With a sigh and a nod, Miss Katsuki turned on her heel and marched out of the room, leaving the teens to their devices, or whatever it was the administration had in store for them.

It was some day in some city in some facility. Hotaru lay in bed watching the ceiling as she had been for the past three hours. The ceiling hadn't changed since she first was looking. There was a brief moment, around hour two, that she thought the texture had changed but it was just her eyes blurring for a moment.

This is the view she had had for many days now. The only difference was a slight throbbing in her left shoulder where, partially covered by her dress, a wing-like symbol now resided.

Hotaru hadn't thought she expected much would change after the mark appeared but, when she had been immediately sent back to her room, she realized that there was a small bit of hope that was dashed in an instant.

The girl sighed. "What is it Tsukiko?" She said, finally speaking to the grinning woman who was standing by the side of her bed.

"Ah, you have finally spoken. It only took twenty minutes this time. An improvement." The woman responded before covering her mouth and laughing softly. "Kukuku...Your days of waiting have come to a close, my dear, for today is the day you set foot outside of this facility of experiment and into the mysterious unknown. Come, follow me into the darkness of discovery."

The woman turned and flung open the door before raising a foot. She waited. Waited some more, then gestured for Hotaru to follow. With not a small amount of reluctance the girl pushed her lanky body out of the bed and, having not removed her footwear from when she last went outside, followed the woman.

When she saw the car Hotaru felt both a tingling anticipation and nerves. Seeing this, Tsukiko clucked her tongue. "I assure you my driving is more than adequate."

It was not.

However, once in the vehicle, Hotaru found herself not minding. If she were to go out this way then it would only be fitting. As they traveled Tsukiko kept talking. About destiny. And grand mysterious adventures. About powers beyond what most would deem normal.

And then she stopped talking about herself and instead asked Hotaru how she felt about being outside.

The girl stared out the car window, watching as the world passed by in a blur, and remained silent for around ten minutes before finally responding. "It's...fine. Doesn't feel different."

Tsukiko nodded, a small smirk on her face, and spoke in a mysterious tone "For now."

Ah. There it was again. That feeling of a small, unintentional, glimmer of hope being quashed in the waves of reality. So they were shipping her to a prison now. They must not have wanted to spend the funding it took to keep her housed in that facility.

Well, one place was as bad as another. She slipped from the car and shuffled along her path as usual. Then Tsukiko stopped her before she entered. "My dear, before you go, I must tell you that I believe in you. I knew when I met you that you had a power and this is now your chance to show it."

"By going to prison?" came Hotaru's rare sarcastic response.

Tsukiko smirked. "Nothing is ever just what it seems."

And with that the woman gently pushed Hotaru forward. Towards some unknown, and potentially unreal, destiny.

"Oh, so the cute little bearer of the left wing, Hotaru arrives next. Well, I suppose little isn't the right word to describe you,"

Hotaru gave a barely visible nod. She was standing stiffly, almost eerily so, near the table where several others were already seated. Including one who seemed....excited to be here. Why? What was exciting about any of this?

She mumbled something so quietly and rushed that even Hotaru herself didn't know what she was saying and sat awkwardly on the table. Her hands moved from her lap, to the table, until finally she just let them hang uselessly at her side.

Hotaru lowered her gaze, letting her bangs cover her eyes, and waited for this to be over.

Raijin's day started just like any other; with the most obnoxious alarm blaring in his room. An old man sat next to the alarm on a wooden chair, reading what looked like a newspaper, as Raijin let out a groan. He hated waking up early, but he didn't have much of a choice; there were no buttons on the alarm clock, only a key slot to stop the noise. One would think someone would get used to waking up at 5 AM after doing it for months, but not Raijin, as he fruitlessly slammed the top of the clock. After some incoherent muttering, Rajin got up, rubbing his eyes as he turned to the old man. "Good, you're awake." The old man spoke with a stern voice, slowly getting up and taking out a key from his pocket as Raijin stretched. "You didn't forget what today is, did you?"

"Ugh" Raijin responded, getting off of the bed. "Yeah, I know." He shook his head, letting out a loud yawn as he cracked his neck. "Do we really gotta do this though?"

The old man nodded. "Get ready. We leave in half an hour." Without waiting for a response, the old man got up and headed towards the door. As Raijin fully stood up, the handler stopped. "Oh, and try and make yourself look at least presentable." Raijin simply scoffed, rolling his eyes as the old man left. Today was going to be a long day.

The car ride from Taccon City to the Satellite. Raijin's face frowned; even the streets of Taccon City seemed like a better place to be than this run down building. "We're late." the man said sternly, a slight tone of anger in his voice. He glared at Raijin, who simply shrugged.

"Calm down, we're only a bit late" Raijin said, rolling his eyes.

"Stand up straight." The man said, smacking Raijin on the back. "And try not to make a fool of yourself in there."

Raijin growled, standing up straight, before turning back to the old man. "You ain't comin' with, Mr. Sato?" The old man shook his head, extending his hand out. "Well, I can't say it was a pleasure, but somehow I'm going to miss ya."

As Raijin took the handshake, the old man gave the boy a cold and small smile. "Same goes to you, Mr. Hanazawa. Good luck." As he let go of the boys hand, his expression quickly shifted back to its stone cold glare. "You'll need it."

Once inside, Raijin found that he was one of the last to show up, as there were a bunch of other people already seated. "Sup?" Raijin said, taking the closest available seat to him. "Name's Raijin Hanazawa." He said briefly, slouching on the chair as he sat on it. "So... anyone else comin' or?"

Turbo City...to be more precise...the Turbo City KaibaCorp branch building. Should be a beacon of the future for all Duelists everywhere. Could still be, but for Jet, he could only lay there on his bed staring up at the ivory ceiling. He had been tossing and turning quite a number of times already the night prior and succeeded in getting somewhere between an hour and a half of sleep. Whenever he kept trying to get any rest, his right arm where that damned mark was gave a bit of a feeling of the pain like he would when he would summon that monster. But he hadn't...it must've been his mind playing tricks on him again.

Jet let out a low sigh, moving his arm slightly to his chest. Taking his left hand, he gripped tightly onto his marked arm, feeling it shake beneath it. The young man closed his eyes, just feeling exhausted. M-Maybe...I can just lay here...a-and...

Unfortunately for him, the door to his room swung open and the lights flashed on, almost blinding the young man. Sitting up slowly, holding his arm up to shield his drowsy eyes from the light, he saw an older gentlemen adjusting his glasses with a bit of a scowl on his face. Dr. Aichi Akihiro...Jet's handler, and surrogate guardian...as well as resident asshole when he wanted to be.

"Hoshimi. We're late." he spoke, looking at Jet. "The call has gone out. Project Crimson is in effect."

This sentence made Jet sick to his stomach as well as made his right arm itch. Project Crimson...that phrase that he heard about since day one here. The one thing he never got 100% clarification of what it was and what it had to do with him. He looked at Akihiro, before looking down at his marked arm, then at the floor. An answer went through his head...he wanted to respond with: "Can I just not go? I'm exhausted...", however he flinched at what he figured would be the outcome: Akihiro striking his face...just depended on whether or not it would be a slap or a out right punch to the face. Needless to say, Jet didn't want to find out.

"U-Understood sir..." Jet simply replied, getting up and beginning to make himself presentable. "D-Dr. Akihiro...?"

"What is it Hoshimi?" Akihiro asked, already in mid-turnabout, about to make his exit from the youth's room.

"...a-are the others...going to be there?"

This caused Akihiro to scoff. "But of course. As I stated, Project Crimson is in effect. What a simple minded question. Now hurry up."

...joy. ...j-just keep to yourself...you'll be fine.... Jet thought, sighing slightly as he tossed on his green jean jacket.

Jet enjoyed the fact that he was finally leaving Turbo City for a while...however the ride to their destination, he just happened to fall asleep in the back. Thankfully, Akihiro didn't bother him through the ride, since he was too busy typing away and checking data on his tablet.

The drive from Turbo to Domino City seemed like it wasn't very long, but Jet didn't mind as he was sleeping as much as he could. Though one bump caught him off guard and had him wake up suddenly, to which his vision was looking at what seemed to be a prison...in the Satellite.

"W-Wha...what's going o-..."

"Quite simply, we're meeting here." Akihiro said sternly, looking up from his tablet, adjusting his glasses to where the glare from the tablet no longer obstructed Jet from seeing his narrow eyes. "Please keep your questions to a minimum, Hoshimi."

"Y-Yes sir..." Jet nodded, looking at the floorboard, feeling the vehicle stop finally.

Without another word, Jet was ushered out of the vehicle and into the prison building by Akihiro. The sounds their footsteps echoing in the halls was all that was heard, until the sounds of voices were beginning to be heard. Soon the location of the voices were found as the pair walked into an area that housed a white haired man in a white cloak, along with roughly seven other people, just standing or sitting around.

Jet was ushered by Akihiro to sit, while the young man listened to the white haired man who commented that "Jet, bearer of the Heart, brings up the rear". The young man looked at the man before averting his eyes to just stare at the ground. He took the seat furthest from everyone else...just to keep to himself.

He just had a feeling he wasn't going to enjoy this anymore than he already had...

The small dormitory was dark, almost completely devoid of light. It always was between the hours of 10:30 PM and 5 AM, the automatic lights up above flickering on the second the hour shifted. Currently there was nothing, just blackness and the poorly defined shapes of a bed, a small desk, a D-Wheel. But Leiko was still awake. She had been for the last hour.

She sat against the wall of the room, head lolled onto her shoulder, her hair wet from the shower she had just taken pressed up against her face. She couldn't sleep. Even with the rigors of the last six months sometimes she couldn't shut her mind down long enough for her exhausted body to recharge itself. In her hand were two cards. She would every now and then idly look down at them; At the Pendulum monster that was at the front. At the Synchro Monster behind it. She now reached with her other hand, taking the Synchro Monster and placing it face-down on the floor. She pushed out with her hand, sending it skidding across, away from her, leaving her with only the Pendulum Monster: Risebell the Summoner.

She heard footsteps coming towards the flush panel that was the door into her room. She put the Risebell card into her pocket furtively, closing her eyes before the lights could flip on and blind her. The door slid open, and the tired-looking older man at the door gazed in, seeing that Leiko's bed was empty. He turned to see her, knees drawn up to her chest, not looking at him.

He sighed, walking in, bending over and picking up the card Leiko had pushed away. He crouched, extending the card out to her. Leiko looked up, surprised by his demeanor. Normally she was being rushed out of the room by this point, being told to hurry and prepare for the day ahead.

"You'll need this, Leiko," Morodate told her solemnly. "Your tests as they stand will have to do... It's time for you to meet the other subjects."

The van drove up onto the thoroughfare, delving into the deeper areas of Cradle City. Leiko had been surprised to see the lab was hidden on the outskirts of such a brilliant and bustling place. She had assumed she was nowhere near the Greater Domino Area. But to think she had been close to the Area, to her home all this time...

She turned to look at Morodate, who was driving impassively, looking at the road ahead with a set expression she found hard to read. Leiko didn't know quite how to act; This was the most informal setting she had been in with the handler since she had met him. She thought about it for several minutes, before carefully opening her mouth to ask a question

"... You said there were other subjects, right?"

"Focus on the duel puzzle, Leiko," he said simply, turning the wheel to switch into a less crowded lane.

Leiko looked down blankly at the tablet device Morodate had given her, and at the duel field it showed on the screen. "I thought we were done with the tests."

"More can't hurt."

Leiko bit her lip, wanting to complain that all the tests up to this point had hurt quite a bit, but she couldn't bring herself to say it. She turned back to the tablet, tapping the screen with a finger to activate a card. "Where are we going? Can you tell me that?"

"The Satellite area. You're meeting the other subjects there."

"Have they had the same test I have?"

"I said focus on the duel puzzle, Leiko," he replied simply.

"I finished it," she said matter-of-factly, turning the device to show the VICTORY heading across the screen.

Morodate gave it a quick glance, raising an eyebrow. "You're getting faster. Good." He took a deep breath. "Alright, I guess I can tell you that, at least... No. Not exactly. They've had more. Far more."

Leiko felt her blood chill. The tests she had been through so far had been bad enough... These ones had even more? "Why?"

Morodate drummed his fingers on the wheel "They've been with the project much longer than you. We had to rush yours through quicker."

Realization dawned in Houki's eye as she remembered how rushed the scientists around her always seemed to be. "Was... Was Houki supposed to be here today instead of me?"

A nod as acknowledgement. A pensive expression. Leiko sat back in her chair, this thought turning over in her head. "Well... Where is she now?"

"It's not important," was Morodate's infuriating reply, the one he always gave. Leiko pushed down the urge to cry in frustration, turning her head away to look fitfully out the window. With a start she saw Turbo City in the distance, and the Skyway above it. It looked so different after all her captivity. She had to wonder what it looked like to the others she was about to meet.

The D-Wheel was deposited in a holding bay inside the prison; For a prison it was, something that had caused Leiko to balk when she saw the sign. Morodate just guided her forward, collected as always. As they walked down the austere hallway, Leiko felt like she was shrinking in the too-large black sweater she was wearing, disappearing into the turtleneck. To not be in the lab anymore was throwing her off what little bit of rhythm she had left. She raised her left arm, pulling the sleeve back to look at the strange mark, a pair of small red wings, that had been impressed onto her skin.

This was supposed to be Houki's. They wanted her, not me. I shouldn't be here.

She swallowed nervously, pulling the sleeve down to cover her arm once more. She kept a hand clamped on the wrist, as if to contain the mark inside her sweater. It prickled painfully, like it almost always did.

She came to a doorway, Morodate ushering her towards it. She took a deep breath, then lightly pushed against it, sliding into the room without a sound, head lowered to face the floor, only barely processing the table and the chairs, not able to meet the eyes of anyone sitting there. She furtively started walking towards the nearest chair to her, not making any noise to announce her presence, but-

"Ah, Leiko! Bearer of the Wings... I was afraid we wouldn't be seeing you here today. Good work, Morodate."

Leiko froze where she stood, jerking her head up to look at the man who had spoken. A smiling gentleman with white hair had greeted her. She looked now to see the room was more crowded than she had thought. She swallowed again, nodding jerkishly. "Um, hi," she said, quietly, barely audible.

Morodate followed behind her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Yes," he said simply, looking at the white-haired man with a tired gaze. "Leiko's done well, considering the circumstance-"

"Please." Leiko just whispered that one word, eyes falling to the ground again. Morodate stopped, lifting his hand and nodding, before moving to the side of the room to stand with Yamada. She gave him a quizical look.

"You know why I'm staying," he told her simply, crossing his arms and placing his gaze on Leiko once again as she took a seat slowly, sitting beside a purple-haired girl who seemed just as nervous as she was. She unnerved her less than the ones who looked comfortable, especially the one girl in the suit. She looked almost like she was excited to be here. Leiko turned her head towards Hotaru lightly, looking around the table Looking for anyone who looked as happy to be here as she was. Jet she singled out immediately, the sullen boy sitting as far away from everyone as he could. There was only one chair between Leiko and him, the space he had from the others dwindling as the table filled. She felt briefly galvanized by the two's presence; She wasn't the only one here who wasn't happy.

Octavia
»»————- ♡ ————-««

Morning. The sun was starting to rise on the ruins of Hearthome City, stirring gang members to life while the night shift began to wind down. Despair and hope mixed together as people did whatever they had to do in order to survive the 'lawless' wasteland, but for some... There was a hidden side to the city. Deep underground, hidden away from the unruly masses was a testing facility, made to house... Something? And in that deep facility, one room was housed by their test subject...

The alarm in the pure white, bland room had started to go off around 5AM, signalling to the girl inside that it was time to wake up. The blankets on the bed shifted around as a small mumble escaped her, her eyes slowly opening up as she sat up, a hand stretching up into the air as her fell down behind her shoulders as she righted herself. She glanced around the room she was inside of, hand reaching up to rub at her neck a little bit as she tried to shake the sleep from her eyes. She stood up slowly, preparing for the day as usual, beginning with a quick clean up, her hands pulling her hair up into place behind her as she did. It wouldn't be long before she was pulled out for a day of testing, a brief lunch, and then even more testing...

Honestly, Octavia had never really understood what was going on in this place. She had only been here for a couple of years at this point, and the tasks that she was given to complete often made little sense to her. She would occasionally have to do extremely physical challenges, climbing, running, even a little bit of muscle training for her small figure, but other days she would have to focus on card games. Drawing cards, puzzles that required her to win in one turn, puzzles that required her to defeat a specific card that seemed unstoppable...

But were also those strange experiments. Those were often deeply uncomfortable and not without a little bit of pain, she was glad those were done. They seemed rushed, the scientists were always rushing around her as she fluttered in and out of consciousness during them, as if they were afraid she was going to die on them. The more she considered it, the more it seemed like a reasonable concern, that first year had been a hell... But she was taken care of, otherwise. She had a safe...ish place to stay, she was fed, often more than she could handle after living out in the streets of Hearthome for so long, and she was given the chance to exploring her cards. It wasn't her best deal, but at least she wasn't entirely ripped off. And even though she wasn't sure why the experiments stopped in frequency after the first year, she was just starting to get used to the pain that accompanied them after all, now each one was as if the pain was being experienced for the first time... They seemed pleased that this strange mark had appeared on her just barely a month ago, a heart-shaped mark around her wrist. but they didn't want to explain anything about it to her, they only cared about starting the next test.

With the final touches to her appearance, getting dressed with her usual hoodie and jacket combo, and a quick brush to her teeth before a loud knocking occurred at the door, right on schedule.

"Octavia. Today we're doing something a bit different, you're going to be meeting with the others like you. Your time here is likely over now." The handler brushed her hair behind her ear as she waited for a response...

She blinked for a moment as she glanced up at the taller woman in front of her, Alexandria. She had never been particularly close to her, but she was the one person in the establishment that actually talked to her as if she was a person. The fact that she was supposedly leaving the lab should've been the thing to grab her attention, but... "Wait, others?"

"Come along, I'll answer what questions I can after the scientists do a few last minute check ups. They want to be absolutely sure there's nothing at risk of going wrong. It'll be short."

»»————- ♡ ————-««

Short was one way to describe the tests, but another would've been annoying. Nothing was outright painful this time and the scientists seemed to be keeping to a strict schedule as the test was done in less than twenty minutes. The biggest test seemed to be taking some blood for future purposes, but it was a speedbump in her learning more about what was about to happen. Alexandria escorted Octavia out of the lab to the ruined city of Hearthome, and a wave of memories hit Octavia all at once. She took a little glance around the rubble of the back street they were on as she thought about her life here, a little frown on her face as she let out a little sigh. "Where are we going?"

Alexandria motioned for her to follow, guiding her around the bend of the building to a small car that she opened the back door to, "Satellite. There's business there that must be attended to. I'll be driving you there myself. We have to leave early to avoid any gang activities."

Octavia nodded as she stepped inside of the car with little argument, settling into the back seat behind Alexandria quietly as she scooted to the opposite side of the driver's seat. The car began to move, and the ride started...

"What exactly are we doing there? You mentioned that there were others like me..." Octavia watched as the hands tightened on the steering wheel, before a small sigh came from the front of the car.

"I did say I would answer a few questions... But yes, I have heard that you weren't the only one experimented on this way. I don't know the exact number, but you'll be meeting them today."

Octavia nodded her head gently as she looked up at the roof of the car, thinking about what the others might be like. Hopefully they wouldn't be too hard to get along with, hopefully they would be more sociable than the scientists were, hopefully, hopefully, hopefully... But before long another question popped into her head, "...Isn't Satellite a prison district?" Her hand gripped at the car seat as she asked that question, surely...

"It is. What they want you all there for, I don't know. When you get there, be respectful."

The rest of the car ride was spent in silence between the two of them, Octavia's nerves building as she confirmed her suspicions. It wasn't exactly confidence building to know where they were heading, but with nowhere else to go it wasn't like she had a choice. The two of them sat quietly until the car finally pulled up at their destination, and Alexandria opened the door to let Octavia out of the car. She motioned for Octavia to follow her down the halls of the prison complex coming to one last door between them and their destination, before speaking up, "...You've done very well. Remember your lessons and keep growing, and you'll be fine. No matter what anyone throws at you."

Alexandria turned and walked away from Octavia before even waiting for a response... And she was alone.

»»————- ♡ ————-««

She braced herself against the wall next to the door for a moment as she took a deep breath, preparing herself mentally for whatever was about to come. She stumbled for a moment as she pushed herself away from the wall, but without any hesitation she opened up the door and walked inside, taking a quick glance around the room at the gathering of people. Her first instinct was to try and make herself small to avoid being noticed, but...

"Uh... I'm Octavia Hayes. It's nice to meet you all." She bowed her head down to the group, before making her way to the table her hands diving back into her hoodie's pockets. She made her way to the table and took a seat next to a girl who... Almost certainly spent at least an hour in the bathroom getting ready in the morning, if that outlandish appearance was anything to go by. The group was... An odd one, to say the least. Some of them looked like they were actively angry about this, some looked... Entirely disconnected, while some were perfectly fine with what was going on. Octavia... Could only sit in confusion as she waited for a little bit of clarification on what was even happening here...

Hypatia

She woke up with a start, reflexively covering her eyes from the fluorescent light that bathed the room. The first thing that she noticed upon sitting up on the cold metal table where she had slept through the night was the pounding in her head, and the second was the metal lab sink in front of her with a note attached to the faucet. She stumbled her way over and put her hands on the edge, looking down to see an empty glass and a pill bottle with another note with the words "Take Me" written in a delicate cursive script. Normally she might have been suspicious of something like this, but the pain in her head made this something of a special case. She poured herself a glass and downed three pills, giving herself some time for the medicine to kick in before taking stock of the room around her.

Slowly but surely the throbbing in her head slowed to a dull ache, and she looked around the room curiously. The place was in shambles. Her first thought was that a hurricane or some form of monster must have torn this once pristine lab to shreds: chairs were overturned, glass beakers and vials lie shattered on the floor, and a few fluorescent bulbs hung from wires blinking ominously. She also noticed, as her pain subsided, that there was another dull throbbing on her right hand, and upon further inspection she found that there was a deep crimson eye-shaped mark imposed on its back. She studied it for a moment before moving to grab the note affixed to the faucet of the sink.

"Dearest Hypatia

You've had a rough night, so I've taken the liberty of leaving you some powerful opiates. Try not to take any more than two at a time.

Your full name is Hypatia Dex. Don't forget it, and don't let anyone take it from you. I'm sure that you have quite a few questions right now, and I sincerely wish that I had the time to write those answers. Unfortunately I'm fading fast, and you'll need to settle for the abridged version of the current affairs. You're a member of Project Crimson, and by now you're probably running a bit behind schedule for the meeting.

Your things are on the desk in the corner of the room. Get changed quickly and head out. I've left Dr. Klaus' wallet in your bag. His key-card will let you freely move through the compound, and the rat-bastard kept a decent amount of pocket money in it as well.

Love, Hypatia.

P.S. The driver might ask about what happened to the good doctor, but I trust that we'll easily be able to come up with a convincing lie for him."

She looked down at the teal hospital gown that she was wearing, emblazoned only with a large number 12 in a simple font. "A change of clothes would be nice right about now."

She stepped over to the desk, where she found a notebook bookmarked with a ball-point pen. She quickly scribbled 'Hypatia' into the margins of the book. Sure enough, the handwriting on the note was hers, which presumably meant that the name was as well. "Hypatia... Dex." she said aloud. Hypatia couldn't put her finger on it, but there was something calming about saying it. She looked back to the notebook.

"...keeps crashing the tests and refuses to respond to her designation as Subject 12. I swear that I would have killed her by now if she weren't the last one of the batch. Maybe I'll pay her a visit tonight, it's not a small consolation to be able to teach a 'lesson' to the stupid..." Hypatia succinctly tossed the book into a garbage can by the desk. She didn't care to read that particular string of profanities, and it would have left an unpleasant taste in her mouth even if it hadn't presumably been talking about her. Focusing her attention to the bag on the table and to the clean pressed suit hanging from a precariously perched coat rack on the side of the desk.

---

Hypatia stepped out of the compound freshly dressed, where a cab driver was waiting to meet her.

"Oh uh, hey kid! I think I'm supposed to be driving you but we're a bit behind schedule. Say, uh, is Dr. Klaus with you?"

She met him with a pleasant smile. "Unfortunately, Dr. Klaus is vacationing with his family at the moment. It'll just be the two of us."

"Keh, that jerk gets to go on vacation while we get all the hard work right? Don't tell anyone, but uh, just between you and me I really don't like the guy."

Hypatia had already made her way into the car at this point, but due to the pills she had taken earlier, she was a bit too busy passing out to respond.

She was awoken by the driver shaking her shoulder. "Hey kid, we're here."

"Hm? Oh yeah thanks." She yawned and wiped a bit of drool off of her cheek before grabbing her bag and stepping out of the car.

The cab driver added "Hey uh, good luck in there kid. I don't know what they're doin' but it reeks of some funky business." before getting on his way.

---

Hypatia had made her way inside and now stood in front of the doors of the meeting room that she had been directed to. She cleared her throat and fastened her shirt one last time.

"Looks like it's showtime." She whispered to herself, her lips forming into a wide grin. She pushed open the doors in a way that she was sure would draw attention and strided confidently into the room, stopping before curious group seated around the table in front of her. With a dramatic flourish she moved to present the back of her right hand, making sure her mark was readily visible. The next words out of her mouth were spoken with an almost theatrical grace that she hadn't even known was in her.

"I apologize for my lateness. My name is Hypatia Dex, and it's a pleasure to meet you all." She ended this statement with an exaggerated bow, before sauntering over to the last remaining seat.

"Well, now that everyone is here," The white haired man said as he snapped his book shut, the sound echoing through the halls of the prison and the large empty mess hall they were in. "Now, just to recap for everyone, we have...," he waved his hand in the air, and suddenly, a wooden wand with vines and flowers wrapped around it appeared in it. "This is Zirco, the bearer of Right Wing," he said, tapping the wand on the blond boy's head. "He might look rough, but I've been told he's a sweetheart,"

"Oy, oy, don't touch the hair!" Zirco complained as he quickly scruffed up his hair. The white hair man ignored him and moved on, spinning like a ballerina as he moved to the next person.

"This is Natsumi, bearer of the Foot," He said, his spinning coming to a halt as he tapped her shoulder. "It's certainly funny, in a dark humor sort of way," He added, rubbing his chin. "Actually, it's probably more morbid," He shrugged and moved on, tapping Kiyoko on the shoulder. "And here we have the bearer of the Tail, Kiyoko," He smiled before going. "I suppose I shouldn't do my usual bullying, or she'll whip me into shape with that tail," He smiled and moved on, tapping Shannon on the head. "And this is Shannon, bearer of the Head. It seems that knowledge went up to hers, but hey, that's okay," There was a cough from the corner, and Yamada spoke up.

"This is fun and all, but don't you think you should tell them why they're here?" She asked. The white haired man held a hand to his chin and let out an exaggerated sigh.

"I suppose I could, but, this way is much more fun," He finally stated with a smile. He walked over to Tora, tapping her head with his wand. "This is Tora, bearer of the Claw, and I'm sure she knows how to use them," He skipped over to his next target, pausing before touching her with his wand. Looking at the space behind her, he seemed to ponder on this a bit before deciding against it. "This is Hotaru, bearer of the Left Wing. I'd do a silly pun, but... it seems like he wouldn't appreciate it,"  he commented as he pointed the wooden stick at the space behind Hotaru. He then quickly recoiled from his spot, like something had lashed out at him. "Okay, okay, I'm going. Down boy, I'm not doing anything else to her,"

He walked away, muttering something before he went over to Raijin, tapping his head. "This is Raijin, the one with the Body Mark. As you can see, he certainly looks like he could be the body of a dragon," he teased before moving on. "This here is Jet, the one with the Mark of Heart, which he wears on his sleeve, if you know what I mean," he moved two seats over to tap Leiko on the head. "This is Leiko, Bearer of the Wings. Yes, Wings, plural. I'm assuming she has the head wings, because have the butt ones would be weeeeeird," he spun off, stopping by Octavia. "This lovely young lady is Octavia, also a bearer of the heart. We have two them. There's a logical reason for it, but I don't feel like explaining it. I barely want to explain what I do have to explain," He walked over to the final person. "And this, this is Hypatia, bearer of the Mark of the Eye," He said as he poked her forehead. "I... don't many eye puns, I'll admit," he said.

He then walked to the front to the room. "And finally we have---," He paused, looking around the room. "Hold on, we seem to be missing someone," He stroked his chin, closing his eyes. "Where is Biggus Dickus, bearer of the Left Nut?" he asked with a completely straight face. "I could have sworn Biggus Dickus was also a success...," He reached into his cloak, pulling out a PDA. "Let's see, Biggus Dickus... Biggus... there we go," He took a quick read, and his expression morphed into one of confusion. "O-oh... he passed on this morning. Died of... well... well then, I certainly didn't think one could die of that. How odd," he put away the PDA and sighed. "Well, so much that...,"

"So now will you---," Yamada asked before the man waved his hand at her.

"Yes, yes, I will, calm down, Hakuna Yamada, I'm on it," He said, to which Zirco let out a snort, doing his best to hold back a laugh.

"I like this guy," Zirco let out as the white haired man cleared his throat.

"I am known as the Magus of Knowledge, but you can call me Mr. E," he said with a bow. "I will be you new 'handler' as it where. I want you all to rely on me," His tone lost it's playful edge, instead replaced by sincerity. "You all will be faced with more trials and tribulations, so I hope I can help you in any way I can," He then looked up. "Especially concerning love. You're always welcome to receive my consultation," his playful tone returned when he said that. He stood back up straight and smiled.

"As for why you're here, well, I suppose you can call this the next stage of your tests," He explained as he folded his arms, tilting his head. "It'll be the hardest thing you all have faced, but I believe in you. You've been gathered here to...," He then smiled and threw out his arms, confetti flying out from his sleeves and filling the air. "have a sluuuuuuuuuuumber paaaaaaarty!!!" He said in a sing song voice as balloons began to fall from the ceiling and very cheerful music began to play. He looked down at the group, smiling as he watched their various reactions. "It may sound like a joke, but it's not," He said as he placed his hands down by his side. "You all will live here from now on, learning how to work together and interacting with people in general," He rubbed his chin. "I know this used to be a prison, but we've converted it into very comfortable dorms for the lot of you. Now, we just have to wait for one more person to show up... any questions until then? And, also, feel free to talk among yourselves. Who knows when Mr. Kaiba will get here?"

Shannon had watched the events unfold with curiosity. It was strange that this man was to be the... father to their family, so to speak, but he did seem like he meant some of what he said. And his comments about Hotaru drew her attention. Looking at the girl as Mr. E teased her, she saw a serpentine, undead dragon behind the girl. And, true to the man's words, he did not appear too pleased. Shannon smiled, pleased that it seemed that the only others who could see the creature were Hotaru and Mr. E. After all, she was special. Mr. E was clearly special. Perhaps, Hotaru was also special?

"This is our new home then?" Shannon asked no one in particular, "Well, it can't be worse than the labs we come from, can it? Though, I'll miss James and the rest of the staff... But, we'll just forge new bonds together, right?"

Standing up and giving a small bow, Shannon scanned the group. Edgy boy, plain girl, Hotaru, lanky boy, and others were part of the merry band. A nice mix of members, even if most were female. Simply perfect.

"As said, I am Shannon Almaz, and my mark is the Head. I've been told it signifies the leader of our little party. I'm sure we all have questions for our eccentric 'handler', but it would probably be for the best that we get to know one another, as well. After all, we're family now. And I think there's more to discuss than he told us... Such as the fact that I'm from Cradle City. Or maybe... This is better?"

Shannon produced a card from her pocket, revealing only the art and name of the card. Luster Pendulum the Dracoslayer. As she did, the spirit of the creature appeared beside her, invisible to all but Hotaru and Mr. E.

"Luster Pendulum is my Duel Dragon. How about all of you?"

Kiyoko watched the others trail in one by one, her generally neutral expression not changing much as some of them had made their introductions. She wasn't sure what to make of some of them, being off put by some's reluctance and being caught off guard by one's exuberance. She didn't respond in kind when some introduced themselves, and merely kept to herself, listening as the white haired man began to introduce them. Similarly, she was off put by this man and his own demeanor, not being akin to any of the scientists or handler that she had had for the past few years. She looked to each of her new colleagues as the man introduced them both by name and the marks they bore, though seemed a bit skeptical at the man, Mr. E., referring to himself as their new handler. She had learned from her own that there was generally more to a person then they appeared but this man was certainly on the...eccentric side.

Raising an eyebrow at the term "slumber party," the girl didn't really know what sleeping had to do with their current objective but had a feeling that asking wasn't going to get her very far. Looking to her new colleagues, the exuberant one began to speak up first introducing herself. She didn't really get what she meant by saying that they were "family" as Kiyoko was fairly certain this was not how families worked, but decided to follow Shannon's template for introduction. "I am Kiyoko Matsumoto. Bearer of the Tail Mark. I don't think it really signifies anything." She felt awkward leaving it at that, pausing for a moment before spouting, "but it's on the end opposite of the head." Trivia. "I am from Turbo City. And my Duel Dragon is Michael." The girl pulled her card out and presented it to the rest of the group. Looking from side to side at the others she simply nodded her head, repeating what others did at the end of their intros. "I look forward to working together with you all."

Raijin leaned back on his chair as he watched Mr. E go around the room, sinking further down as he put his feet on the table. He wasn't sure what the hell was up with this clown but he didn't mind; at the very least, it seemed like he wasn't going to be a stickler like Mr. Sato. He might have been insane, but Mr. E was definitely an improvement. Raijin even chuckled a bit at the slumber party comment. They were apparently waiting for another person to show up. Raijin took a glance at the others around him, getting a good look at the group that he was apparently going to be teaming up. There seemed to be a lot of females in the group, something Raijin didn't mind at all.

Two of the girls introduced themselves, whether they did it again or not he didn't know, although this time they were mentioning their Duel Dragons. Raijin simply rolled his eyes, thrusting himself forward as he put his feet off of the table and sat up straight. The girl with the rather interesting hair talked about them as if they were a family rubbed him the wrong way. "Let's get something straight before we continue our little intros." He leaned forward, resting his head on his hand as he spoke. "We ain't a fuckin' family. At best we're cellmates." He glanced at the others. "Anyways, E already said everything anyone needs to know. Well..." The boy threw himself back on his seat, pulling out a card from his pocket, holding it up sheepishly. "I guess since we're sharing dragon's, mine's 91 Thunder Spark Dragon." He held it for a bit, before putting it back.

There were a lot of people here. Too many people. At least they weren't paying much attention to her. Usually she'd have gotten looks because of her height by now but it seemed that she was in the midst of some rather eccentric people.

It was nice to be able to sit there without worrying.

Until...

"This is Hotaru, bearer of the Left Wing. I'd do a silly pun, but... it seems like he wouldn't appreciate it,"

Hotaru jumped a bit at her name being called and tilted her head down farther, obscuring her face more with her bangs. At the mention of a "he" the girl's eyes flicked to the side where Dragonecro was leaning over her shoulder and glaring daggers at the strange man.

"You aren't doing anything and you'll never do anything, puny human." Dragonecro said in a low, raspy, yet fierce, voice. Hotaru shifted a bit in her chair and, without thinking, put a hand up on his neck.

"I'm...okay." She muttered, forgetting for a moment that other people could hear her talking to the air.

Dragonecro snorted and leaned closer, whispering to the girl. "I don't like this man."

"You didn't like Tsukiko either." She reminded him.

"That's different. She gave me the creeps. He...is wrong." Before Hotaru could think about what he meant by this the dragon shifted gears. "But enough of that, look, we're in a room full of weirdos. We fit in nicely dontcha think?"

Then his head snapped up as he, and then Hotaru, noticed the other Dragon standing behind the most vocal of the group. Dragonecro grinned, baring his teeth, and leaned his serpentine neck forwards towards him. "Oh look, a tiny Dragon, isn't that adorable." He growled with a slight hint of challenge.

"Don't eat another one..." Hotaru said to him, once more seemingly talking to the air.

She finally realized what she was doing and stiffened up, glancing through her hair at the group around her. Though it seemed they were busy sharing their Dragon cards with everyone. Should she do that? She didn't really want to. Why did it matter if they needed to know they'd find out. Even so the girl silently raised the card containing Dragonecro for a few seconds and muttering, her tone dull and somewhat raspy, almost zombie-like "Dragonecro." before slipping it back into her pouch and returning to staring at the table.

Hypatia

Hypatia sat patiently as the Mr. E introduced everyone, focusing her attention on remembering everyone's names and faces. It was a motley crew that she had found herself to be a part of, but for some reason, that only seemed to comfort Hypatia. She smiled in spite of the odd events that had made up the day, even when the man poked her in the forehead. He began to say something else but Hypatia had begun to zone out at this point, still a bit drowsy from the medicine. She was just beginning to doze off when-

"Sluuuuuuuuuuumber paaaaaaarty!!!"

She was awoken for the third time in the day, jumping in her seat as the loud music filled the room. The man finished saying something else and Hypatia got up from her chair, pacing a bit to make sure that she wouldn't fall asleep again until she was absolutely sure that it was safe to do so. A couple of laps into her path around the room it seemed that her companions were making a bit of show and tell, talking about something called Duel Dragons. It appeared to be some sort of card. Did Hypatia even have those? She rooted around her bag for a moment before pulling out a deck-box which she found did indeed contain a deck of cards. She flipped through them quickly as she walked over to the others, finding the only one that could conceivably be called a dragon.

"Hi, I'm Hypatia. Although I think I might have said that already." She was just a bit too tired for her normal flair, yawning before continuing. "I'm from um... Hm... Not sure about that, but anyway, I think that mine's Void Ogre Dragon." She held up the card for a second for the others to see before putting it back in the deck and looking through its cards for the first time.

The mysterious white-haired man - known apparently as Mr. E - went around the table, introducing the other successful members of Project Crimson. Natsumi made a point to keep track of all the names and faces as he went around, but gave a particular look of disdain when he joked about her having the foot mark. It wasn't until he introduced everyone that he explained their purpose for being here. Which he described as a slumber party. Take this seriously, would you?

It was then that the other Signers began to introduce themselves personally. Starting with Shannon, who by her own account, was from Cradle City. She seemed confident that having the mark of the head meant that she was the head of the group. If she wanted to manage these people, then as far as Natsumi cared, she could bloody well have it. Kiyoko and Raijin followed, introducing themselves, or at least their dragons. The fourth to introduce herself spoke far more quietly, and didn't introduce herself so much as her dragon. Which explained the horrific serpentine creature coiled around her. What a ghastly dragon.

"I like this guy!" a raspy, metallic voice cheered from behind her, as Natsumi's own duel spirit reared its ugly head. "He looks like a dragon with an appetite! I appreciate you, big guy." The creature in quesetion - a metallic worm, about the size of Natsumi herself, slid up to Hotaru and her dragon, seemingly eyeing the pair over.

"At least try to behave yourself," Natsumi sighed under her breath, seeing no reason to stop her worm from running off to socialize with others. Better they had to put up with Scrap Worm than her. Getting up to her feet, the girl cleared her throat, reaching into her blazer pocket and pulling out a white card. "I'm Natsumi, from Hearthome City. My duel dragon is Scrap Dragon, and I possess the mark of the foot. There isn't any deeper meaning to find behind it."

"This here is Jet, the one with the Mark of Heart, which he wears on his sleeve, if you know what I mean."

Jet slunk a bit more in his chair, his hand holding his right arm some more, trying to cover up the obvious mark he had there as well as just to keep himself out of the spotlight...but with Mr. E, it seemed like that wasn't going to happen...like at all.

Nevertheless, he listened to the magus as he explained that they'd be living here in this prison from now on. From a proverbial prison to an actual prison now...the way Jet saw it, it was simply moving him from one hell to another. His eyes that were following Mr. E the entire time slowly fell downward towards the ground. He gripped his right arm tightly, already hearing his "teammates" introducing themselves.

Shannon Almaz with Luster Pendulum... Kiyoko Matsumoto with Michael, the Lightsworn... Raijin with Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon... Hotaru with Draconecro Nethersoul Dragon... Hypatia with Void Ogre Dragon... Natsumi with Scrap Dragon... Those were the ones who introduced themselves at the present moment. Most of these people seemed so...cheerful. How could they be cheerful? They were being used as experiments...they had no actual life anymore. Then again...

What actual life...did I have to begin with...? he thought, gripping his arm tighter, biting his lip some. He slowly closed his eyes and images of his time at the orphanage began to flash in his mind. R-Right...there...there wasn't much of a life...b-before...

Jet finally let a small sigh escape his lips as he moved and fumbled with opening up his deck box. Fishing through his deck, he stopped at a Synchro card and slowly pulled it out, it trembling in his right hand as he felt his whole right arm getting extremely shaky right now. The more he looked at this Synchro monster, the more he wanted to throw it away and take his chances with running away from it all...but he knew that it was a losing battle with that option. After all...they'd have him disposed of...so what was the point?

"J-Jet..." he finally spoke, with a cold, uncaring tone clinging to each word. "J-Jet Hoshimi...T-Turbo City...Mark...o-of the H-Heart...a-and...m-my...Duel Dragon...is Stardust S-Spark Dragon..."

Octavia
»»————- ♡ ————-««

The introductions were going... Smoothly? As Mr. E danced around the room, Octavia could only let her hand drift down to the deck box inside of her jacket, her hand tightening around it for a moment as she took a deep breath. Some of them were acting a bit... Odd. Ignoring the fact that this weirdo was dancing around the room to introduce them when he could've just let them do it themselves, there was the fact that some of them seemed to be practically looking out into space, the only saving grace was that no one had really focused on her after all that. She was able to just watch and try her best to process what was happening, even though it wasn't going... That well, honestly. As the names of marks were mentioned, her hand gripped at her wrist gently, tightening for a moment as she returned to paying attention.

"I will be you new 'handler' as it where. I want you all to rely on me."

She blinked for a moment as she rubbed at her neck, glancing up at the ceiling as she leaned back in her seat, tilting the front legs off the ground just a bit as she thought about it. It wasn't like she had been particularly close to the last handler. And as weird as he was, she wasn't getting any vibes from him that she couldn't at least play along for now... So she smiled as she shrugged her shoulders, the best plan was to just go along with it right now. But things could only get... Weirder.

"have a sluuuuuuuuuuumber paaaaaaarty!!!"

Wait, what?

Octavia was about to rise up to her feet to question that, but before she could even get standing, someone beat her to it. The girl sitting next to her rose up almost immediately, as if she had just been waiting for Mr. E to finish speaking without even considering what he was saying. She slunk down into her seat more as she waited for the girl to finish talking, getting a strange look on her face as the girl proclaimed herself the leader so soon. It seemed like a large responsibility to take upon oneself so early, before she even knew what was going on here. If she wanted to take a chance on something like that, that was her choice.

Octavia hummed underneath her breath as the next introduction started up. Kiyoko, she didn't say much, did she? She kept it fairly brief, but respectful. Octavia wasn't sure if she was trying to make a joke about the tail being on the opposite end of the head or was just a little bit awkward, but... She didn't plan to poke at it, everyone had their moments.

Up next, rude boy. He didn't want to say his name. She made a mental note to keep that temper in mind, but she blinked for a moment at seeing the Xyz monster being held up from him. She winced lightly as she leaned back, she wasn't sure she wanted to be associated with him right now... Xyz users already had a bad reputation, she was trying to get around that.

After that was a girl who practically seemed to shrink down when she was addressed. And she was... Talking to the air? Just when she thought this group couldn't get much stranger, there was someone to prove her wrong. She finally held up her card, showing off a Fusion monster that Octavia couldn't quite make out, but... Either way, that was different than what the others were showing!

Hypatia was up next. She just seemed tired, as if she hadn't had a good night's sleep in forever. Or maybe she had slept too long and couldn't wake up? Either way, Octavia couldn't get a decent read on the girl, but it seemed like she wasn't alone on that, considering Hypatia wasn't even sure where she was from or what her dragon was...

After that was a girl who introduced herself as Natsumi. Surprisingly, she was also from Hearthome! Octavia didn't recall seeing anyone else like her in the lab down underneath the city, so either there was more than one lab or they were kept apart intentionally. Though when she showed off the Synchro dragon, a confused look crossed Octavia's face. Of all the things to expect, it certainly wasn't that, but she didn't get any time to ask a question.

Finally was Jet. At least, she thought that was his name. She kinda zoned out for a moment as she was pondering Natsumi's introduction. She caught his name on the second go around, he certainly didn't seem to be eager to introduce himself. She waited for him to finish before standing up herself, pulling her deck out of her jacket to pull a card from the top of it and hold it out... Only to quickly pull it back and take the bottom card instead once she realized her mistake. "I already introduced myself, but my name is Octavia. I also have a Mark of the Heart, and my dragon is Number 82: Heartlandraco! I'm from Hearthome City, I hope we can get along... But can I ask why we're supposed to have a sleepover? I, uh, didn't bring any of my nighttime stuff with me."

Mr E watched as the group began to speak among themselves, reintroducing themselves for the third time, but adding their cards on top of it. He figured they'd have more questions, but hey, if they didn't, that wasn't his fault. He sat back down, opening his book and having a sensible chuckle at its contents.

Zirco raised an eyebrow that the white haired man's antics. He was a strange one, but to him, it was a breath of fresh air compared to his scientists' extremely professional approach. Still, this all rubbed him the wrong way. This 'Magus of Knowledge' Mr. E (seriously, the hell kinda name was that?) didn't actually answer any of the important questions, but this group was just willing to play along, and not only that, but one was obviously trying to be the leader. Like hell he'd take that just lying down.

"Are you all kiddin' me?!" Zirco called out suddenly, slamming his fist into the table, causing the confetti and balloons to scatter. Tamada made a move to step forward, but Mr. E raised a hand to stop her. "Y'all are just going along with this?" He stood up, pointing at Mr. E. "The Snow Rabbit seems nice and all, but think about it. All he did was just made the same vague promises that probably got most of us in this damnable situation in the first place!" He glared at Mr. E, clenching his fist. "If you're answering questions, tell me this. What exactly are we going to be doing? We gonna be some company hitmen with special powers or some shit like that?"

"I assure you it's nothing like that," Mr. E stated as he placed his book down. "I'm also just not in the position to talk about it. Mr. Kaiba was very insistent that he spoke to you all personally, so my hands are tied on those specific details," Zirco shook his head and stood up.

"Yeah, no, I'm not down with this. You all can go ahead and do whatever the hell it is y'all are doing, with your talking into the air and disillusions of leadership, but me, I ain't getting dragged into another shitstorm. I'm out," He turned to leave, but suddenly Mr. E was in front of him. "Da hell?" Zirco asked as he recoiled, looking back to where the white haired man was. "I didn't even see ya move. You a ninja or something?"

"Look, I understand, you have every reason to be suspicious, and to not even like us," Mr. E said, ignoring Zirco's comment. "I only ask you wait for Mr. Kaiba before you storm out. He earnestly wants to present his case to all of you. After that, you're free to make any decision you want," Mr. E then whent back to his seat, picking up his book again. Zirco thought to himself before plopping down into his seat again.

"Fine, fine, but I ain't doing none of that," He said, pointing to the group and their cards. "Not until I've bloody decided to join,"

"Fair enough, fair enough,"

Leiko flinched away from Mr. E's stick as he tapped her on the head with it, shrinking into her chair. Her eyes followed him around the room, the young girl feeling incredibly ill at ease as he introduced people by their name, mark, and some strange joke that only seemed funny to him. Like they were toys on display rather than people. The way he circled around the table, despite his unerringly jovial manner, reminded her moreso of a shark than a person. Circling around the blood in the water.

And then he threw her off her thought process with the talk of the bearer of the left nut. She frowned, not laughing at the joke, just thoroughly puzzled by it, how out of place it was in this somber atmosphere. How out of place this man was in this somber atmosphere. His describing their stay here as a "slumber party" only confused her more. Though he said this place had once been a prison... Leiko couldn't help but feel like it still was.

There was one girl who didn't seem put off at all, though. As Shannon introduced herself, Leiko couldn't help but be incredibly surprised by her confidence in the situation. Even Houki would have been wary of this strange man, these circumstances. And Shannon acted as if they were all a family... Or rather, she said they were. From the matter-of-fact, "deal with it" tone of her voice, Leiko got the impression that family was too strong a word for what they were. Almost like Shannon was telling them to accept it. 'We're a family... One that I lead.' A foregone conclusion. At the very least Raijin seemed to feel the same way, though his rough demeanor kept Leiko from meeting his eyes for more than a second.

Then the cards started coming out. Leiko was at a complete loss here. She felt like the room was shrinking around her now. Did everyone here know more about what was going on than she did? SHe looked over searchingly, desperate, to Morodate. He was not meeting her gaze, just looking at the Magus, his stern face as ever unreadable. She looked over at Jet, very noticeably reacting to him as he spoke. From his demeanor, she hadn't thought he would be so hesitant in speech. Was he like her too? But then he managed to force out the name of Stardust Spark Dragon, and Leiko winced, the tension mounting in her.

I'm the only one.

"I..." She began to speak, Zirco's sudden shouting cutting her off. She retreated back into her chair, looking down to the side as he yelled at the assembled group. She mentally ticked him on the list. Zirco. Raijin. Maybe Hotaru and Jet. Four people who maybe weren't so sure of what was going on. Who weren't oddly okay with this. What had happened to the others here that they were so accepting of it? So nonchalant? Did they know something they didn't? Or had they been in the project so long that they were buying what was happening.

"I... I'm sorry," she forced out slowly, after Zirco had retained his seat. "I... I don't know..." Her expression twisted up, hands shaking in her lap as she felt the gazes of the others bore into her like lasers. "I don't know what... Marks, Duel Dragons..." One of her hands went up to her left arm, clamping around the sleeve, where her Mark was underneath it. "I don't know what..." She took a deep breath, trying to regain her composure. "What is this all about? I... I haven't been told anything, I've just... been put through all these tests, and now there's more, and there's all of YOU... I don't understand any of it." She grew quiet once again, looking kind of lost among all the other experiments. She felt smaller among them. Useless.

Tora Mori

"...Where is Biggus Dickus, bearer of the Left Nut?"

Tora's face turned red and her nerves only seemed to increase. "B-biggus who?" She muttered.

"O-oh... he passed on this morning. Died of... well... well then, I certainly didn't think one could die of that. How odd."

"W-what?!" Tora said much louder this time, but she seemed to be mostly unheard as introductions continued.

"I am known as the Magus of Knowledge, but you can call me Mr. E," he said with a bow. "I will be you new 'handler' as it where. I want you all to rely on me." Mr. E explained, and Tora breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't have to deal with Ms. Katsuki anymore, so at least it looked like things would actually start looking up for once. "You all will be faced with more trials and tribulations, so I hope I can help you in any way I can." Tora sunk to her knees. Nevermind. "Especially concerning love. You're always welcome to receive my consultation."

"EEHHHH?!" Tora cried out. What was with this place?!

"have a sluuuuuuuuuuumber paaaaaaarty!!!"

Tears rolled down Tora's dumbfounded face. "I just want to go home, everyone here's crazy..." she mumbled.

One by one each of the other candidates introduced themselves while Tora remained slumped there on the floor, staring off into space. There was Shannon with Luster Pendulum, Kiyoko with Michael, Raijin with Thunder Spark, Hotaru with Dragonecro, Hypatia with Void Ogre, Natsumi with Scrap Dragon, Jet with Stardust Spark, Octavia with Heartlandraco, and then that one angry dude who was off harrassing Mr. E. Oh, and another that Tora had missed the name of who began to sputter off their confusion over the whole situation.

"These are the marks, like this," Tora mumbled, lifting up her right arm while remaining slumped on the ground, tears streaming down her face in miniature waterfalls. Her sleeve rolled down just a bit, revealing on the back of her hand and extending onto her forearm somewhat, the mark of the claw. "And the duel dragons are like these." She fished into her pouch and took out Mach Accel Dragon and lifted it up to be seen. "Mine's Mach Accel Dragon. At least I think, I don't... really have any other dragons, so I dunno what else it would be." She let her arms fall down, placed Mach Accel back into safety and let herself fall backwards so that she was laying down on the cold, concrete floor. "I'm Tora Mori and I just wanna go home..."

"I don't know what... Marks, Duel Dragons..." Zirco looked over to Leiko, an eyebrow raised behind his sunglasses. Was she---? "I don't know what..."  A deep breath was taken, trying to regain composure. "What is this all about? I... I haven't been told anything, I've just... been put through all these tests, and now there's more, and there's all of YOU... I don't understand any of it."

He recognized that. That fear, that uncertainty. He was like that when he--- no, it couldn't be. It took years to... right...?

"You're... you're new, aren't you?" Zirco didn't need confirmation. The way she acted, the fear... it pissed him off. His fists clenched as he gritted his teeth. He wasn't mad at Leiko per say... but... he had been in the experiment for years. Those years of suffering, training, dueling... the nights without food, without clothes on his back... and she just waltz in and gets her mark? What the hell?!

"I'm Tora Mori and I just wanna go home..." Mr. E looked up, a small sad smile on his face.

"I understand how you feel, but for now, you'll have to keep your chin up and keep pushing forward," He said, trying his best to encourage the group. He looked down at an imaginary watch, humming to himself. "If he doesn't show up soon, he's going to be late....," The magus muttered. Just as he did, there was a loud booming sound that filled the air, sounding like a small jet... and then someone dropped from the ceiling.

As the figure neared the floor, the group could see that he was wearing a jetpack, which slowed his descent enough that he wouldn't injure himself when he landed on the cold floor. The stranger in question looked to be only about a year older than the oldest member of the Signers, wearing sunglasses over his eyes, and a distinct long white jacket along with a black scarf wrapped around their neck. Both articles of clothing flapped in the wing, along with the man's short spiky hair. When he landed, he slipped the jetpack off of his back, the device landing on the ground.

"Excellent landing, Mr. Kaiba," Mr. E stated with a smile, clapping his hands. ' Mr. Kaiba' nodded before approaching the group.

"I was never good with pleasantries, so allow me to cut straight to the point," the man said. "My name is Blues Kaiba, and I am the current head of Kaiba Corp, have been for the last month. About two weeks ago, I had learned of Project Crimson, and reading up on it, my first instinct was to shut it down. I still intend to... however...," He paused as Mr. E tapped him on the shoulder.

"A few of them expressed concern that they didn't know what was going on. They would need an explanation on what Project Crimson even is," he informed. Blues nodded, stroking his chin.

"Well, then, I suppose I'll tell you all that. You deserve to know," he said. "40 years ago, my grandfather, Cyan Kaiba, created Project Crimson in order to tap into the Crimson Dragon and artificially create Signers and Signer Dragons. 'The world will always need heroes', he said, and I guess he believed the ends justified the means. My father, Azure Kaiba continued in the research, but he pushed everyone much harder than my grandfather, and well, that's why you all were subjected to all those experiments. You're actually the third generation of experiments, and the first successes,"

He paused to take a breath and push up his sunglasses. "In short, you all are successful attempts to harness a supernatural energy and channel it people in order to create heroes. But, before that, you all are people, and you weren't treated as such. I had planned on letting you all go, help you get started in life but... it seems we can't do that just yet," He folded his arms. "All around the cities, people have been vanishing, anyone from the hobos on the streets to high ranking people, like my father. That alone is concerning... but sometimes, we find those people. They were killed, for some sort of ritual we don't understand just yet,"

Mr. E spoke up at this point. "As far as our intelligence can tell, whoever these people are want to summon something. What that is has yet to be determined, but obviously, blood rituals that kill people aren't summoning a God of Candy and Sunshine," Blues nodded.

"Right. So, this is my offer to you all. You work with me for six months as Branded Signers, and help me save the world. When those six months are up, however, you're free. You'll be able to leave, a million dollars in your pockets, and a house provided in any city you want, no rent and no bills. What do you all say?"

"Hm... I'm not so sure about that, Mr. Kaiba."

Shannon tapped her fingertips together, smiling pleasantly as she challenged the man who took charge of their lives right now.

"I'm sure you already know of me. I'm here because I'm supposed to be. However, I don't believe the rest of our little family here is as eager as I am to take hold of their destinies. I don't know where they came from, or what they want to do with their lives... But is one million dollars and a house enough?"

The light-haired girl crossed her legs, placing her laced fingers in her lap as she continued to speak. She did not care about the money, the house, or anything like that. Why, that wouldn't suit the hero, would it? But, even more than that, she was the leader to the rest of these. The scared. Gloomy. Awkward. Angry. Plain. This group was her responsibility, and only she could handle them, of course.

"After what they've been through, and with the considerable wealth of KaibaCorp factored in... Surely you could spear a billion each?"

Despite the ridiculous demand, Shannon exuded confidence, her pleasant smile still gracing her face. Anyone looking at her could tell that she believed her demands to be a foregone conclusion. And, to make such even more evident, she turned from Blues in order to address the rest of her signers, her confidence still evident when she continued.

"Now, we should probably settle in and get to know each other better, yes? We have the pleasantries out of the way, and I'm sure no one would like to turn down Mr Kaiba's generous offer of a house of your choosing plus a billion dollars. The sooner we get to know each other, the sooner our family will come to love each other, despite the tense beginnings."

As Shannon continued to assert her station, Luster Pendulum simply ignored Dragonecro. The difference in size was massive, but the knight had faced similar in the past. And the worm didn't earn his attention, either. No, what bothered him was the so-called Magus. To the spirit, he felt... Off. Luster couldn't quite put his thumb on it, but he was definitely not right. He stood in silence as Shannon gave her speech, shooting Mr. E a glare before fading away.

      GUIDELINES
Please read and understand NCM and section rules before posting.
You have creative freedom when making your character, but please remember that GM word is final, and you may be asked to change things if deemed necessary. There's a fine line between over-the-top and just plain silly: I expect you to know where that lies. I won't be restricting your potential powers, but please be reasonable and consider how your character's abilities will work in the context of an RP.
(Note: Characters with a "cosmic" origin or power source, ex. aliens or Green Lantern-esque heroes, must be cleared by me prior to applying, and will be held to greater scrutiny.)
Being accepted into this RP means that you are committed to seeing it advance. If you end up falling inactive, you may be dismissed from participating. When posting, please let at least two people go before you before posting again; and aim to post at least once a week. If for some reason you'll need to be inactive for an extended period, please let the hosts know so they can write around your absence.
As of right now, I only want one character per player. If you are competing for a particular position against another applicant... well, tough. I'll pick applications based on how I think the characters will overlap and interact with one another--we're following the trope of Superhero Speciation. Finally, six characters max will be on the Young Guardians, meaning I'll only accept five other players.

1900's While empowered individuals as a concept have existed since the dawn of time, the idea of costumed villains and vigilantes only became culturally widespread with the advances of the 20th century.1940 The "Golden Age" of superheroics begins a year into the Second World War: this was when heroes were deployed to the front lines for the first time as tactical ultimatums. The war ends with a two-pronged attack. The French Légion de la Gloire and the British Division 10 moved in the Western theater, and the Soviet красные знаменосцы (Red Pennants) and American Sentinels took the East. Notably, this avoided the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Rather, the trigger for the Axis' surrender was when a Soviet hero named Огненное Знамя (Fiery Banner) went insane and razed the city of Dresden to the ground, incinerating nearly one million Germans. (He would later be executed for war crimes, which set off future international tensions.)Sep 2, 1945 After the end of the war, the primary world powers gathered at Dresden to sign into account the Dresden Accords, a list of rules for deploying superheroes under national orders. As a result, heroing became a mostly-national phenomenon: international scenarios were rare to the point of irrelevance.mid-1950's An unintended consequence of the Accords was the rise of global super-crime, mostly by the shadowy organization M.I.S.T. Against the tension of the Cold War, which was only held at bay by the tenuous balance of powers, this globespanning group plundered and spread terror, lead by the mysterious and charismatic Gray Mask. These two factors are considered to be the beginning of the "Bronze Age" of heroes, where realpolitik eclipsed a unifying foe.Mar 4, 1983 This state of uncertainty fell with a bang! with the invasion of the K'rrik, a race of insectoid aliens looking to strip Earth of her resources and subjugate her citizens. Humanity suddenly found they were not alone: and although they unified in the face of such evil, they were on the back foot of a number of days until the arrival of the Cosmic Legion (name subject to change).Mar 17, 1983 The tide turned, and within two weeks the K'rrik invaders were beaten back, but at the cost of millions of casualties. March 17th became the Day of Memory, an international holiday to commemorate the loss of life. A side effect of the Legion's new presence on Earth was the acceleration of spacefaring technologies, letting humanity quickly establish lunar and Martian outposts.JUNE 2018 A group of seven young superheroes make their first entry into the Otherworld after being abducted in their sleep. One of their number is killed by monsters shortly after arrival, dropping the count to six.JULY? 2018 Present day... maybe? In the Year 20XX, a strange phenomenon happened across the globe.  The next step in human evolution had begun, and the first Quirk had been recorded!  A baby in China, born with the ability to become completely invisible!  Soon after, many more reports of children being born with strange abilities were also confirmed.  These abilities would be referred to as Quirks, and they would be heavily monitored by the government.  Naturally, the world became a paradise full of Heroes, but the term was more akin to vigilantes more than anything!  With crime also high on the rise, due to the lack of benefits for using Quirks for good, the Government stepped in to enforce law.  The Hero Licensing and Restriction Act was passed, ordering all vigilantes to become of use to the Government.  Many would sign away their rights, but would gain profit from the common folk as a public safety provider.  However, there are many who still refuse to conform to this Government ruling, and have been labled outlwas.
With the HLRA in place, this meant that new heroes would have to be taught proper ways to conduct themselves, if they wanted to become official licensed heroes.  And this is where your story begins.  The U.A. Academy has finally opened it's doors, and is accepting it's first Freshman class!  Will you be able to pass the test, and get your Hero License?

That’s what the acceptance letter said. Sixteen students received this letter, each one skilled at something to the point where they were the best in the world. And lucky you, you’re one of those sixteen students.
Teenagers from around the world will be coming to attend Hope's Peak Academy, and soon, you'll be meeting with the other fifteen students that make up the class. You'll make friends, you'll overcome challenges, and you'll hone your talents to a point where you'll be set for life!
      Pwuhuhu…

Of course, not all sixteen students will come from this lousy place! That would be, like, totally boring!
I’ll be accepting a number of lucky students from this delightful place for an exchange program! Maybe four... Or five, who knows?
Well, not really an exchange… You’re just coming to this prestigious academy! Think of it as more of a kidnapping. Or a hostage situation!

But don’t worry, it’ll be a ton of fun, everyone will have a good chance to learn and grow!
