Yu-Gi-Oh: Battle Horizon (OOC)

Battle Horizon is KaibaCorp's new and highly successful foray into virtual reality. The concept was simple: Create a massive online game using the cutting edge of virtual reality, lay down some infrastructure to allow duelists to carry their decks over between the game and reality, and see what happens. While initially just an experiment to see if it would stick, Battle Horizon took off and exceeded expectations for a handful of reasons. With the first anniversary of the game's release soon to arrive, fans are speculating and preparing for what new content may arrive. Of the most note is the connfirmation that during the anniversary, a boss stated to be harder than everything else so far will be announced and revealed for a future patch. In-game teams are already preparing to try and be the first in the world to take down this future superboss, and new ones are forming with the same goal.

You are members of a brand-new team, newly-formed with the objective of preparing for this superboss, and striving to be the first to take it down in the world. With the usual world-first champions - Royal Flush - having split up, hopes are high that it's anyone's game to take the crown, become the first to down a boss of unmatched strength, and be recognized as the new top team for high-end content.

RULES

Spoiler

1: am host, my word = final say
2: don't be a dick
3: have fun
4: Any form of Blue-Eyes deck is strictly forbidden in this RP. Other decks may also be not allowed at the start of the RP, but this is extremely unlikely to come up.

APP FORMAT

Spoiler

Name: Your offline name. This can be private in the app, but I need to know it all the same so DM that to me if you opt out of putting this out for the world to see.
Username: It IS an MMO, after all.
Age
Gender
Appearance: Okay I needa elaborate on this one a bit. Since Battle Horizon is an RP meant to primarily take place in a VR MMO, we'll mostly be seeing your character in-game. User avatars are highly customizable, and you can even load appearance data from certain monster cards registered to your account! (For collision reasons, large monsters such as Monarchs are scaled down when used as a user avatar.) Please focus first and foremost on your in-game appearance, but you get extra brownie points for covering the offline as well if they're different, since there will be segments of the RP that don't take place within the game itself.
Personality
Biography: For logistical reasons, please ensure your character currently lives somewhere in Japan (being from there natively is optional). You can also DM this to me if you wanna keep it secret, and I highly encourage you to have some sort of personal goal aside from the team goal of "world first the upcoming superboss".
Deck: Please note that you probably won't have EVERY part of your deck right out the gate. It's fun to get exciting new cards over the course of the RP. Custom cards are also acceptable; please put them in a spoiler with your deck.
Duel Skills: Time to get creative! Every player gets three of these, and they can have all sorts of neat effects. They've also got a turn cooldown (it only goes down on your turn). More on these in the database. Additional note: In the event that your character uses a Duel Skill that only works in a Raid Duel, feel free to add a replacement for it to use in solo duels, just in case.
Misc: Other fun tidbits

DATABASE

Spoiler

Duel Skills

Spoiler

A feature exclusive to Battle Horizon. Duelists can use a Duel Skill at any time during their turn (unless otherwise stated), with the skills themselves having all manner of effects. These skills then go onto a cooldown, which is reduced by 1 during the user's Standby Phase. Of note, players can only equip three Duel Skills at a time, and there are no Duel Skills tied to specific archetypes. Additional Duel Skills can be unlocked through certain sidequests in-game. When dueling against other users, both parties are able to review their opponent's Duel Skills before the duel begins.

Example Duel Skills

Spoiler

Last Stand
If you have 2000 or less LP: Until the end of your opponent's next turn, all damage you take is halved, and all monsters you control gain 500 ATK/DEF. (Cooldown: 4)

Thousand Cuts
For the rest of this turn, every time you resolve a card effect, or deal damage, except by this skill's effect, immediately deal 100 damage to your opponent. (Cooldown: 5)

Duelist Reborn
Can only be used in Raid Duels. Target 1 player with 0 LP; return that player to the Duel with 4000 LP. (Cooldown: 10)

Raid Duels

Spoiler

Like any MMO worth its salt, Battle Horizon has powerful, multi-phase raid bosses that can be defeated for better loot. Duels against bosses are generally done in teams of at least two duelists, but some lower-end bosses or bosses you fight as part of the main story are fought solo. When in a Boss Duel, the following changes to the rules are made:

  • The boss's starting LP is multiplied by the amount of players (min. 2), but the base amount varies.
  • When a boss's LP reaches zero, if there is another phase, it will regain its LP in full and proceed to the next phase.
  • In addition to any monsters they control, a boss is able to personally attack other monsters or players. Attacking a boss while they control no monsters still applies damage as a direct attack.
  • Bosses have access to upgraded versions of player cards, which cannot be obtained by players.
  • A boss's deck has at least 10 cards. If they would deck out, their GY banished zone, and face-up extra deck are instead shuffled into the deck, and they proceed as normal. This deck can change between phases.
  • Player turn order is determined at the start of the duel by the players, and the boss takes a turn after every player.
  • Any effects that a player's card effect or skill applies to themselves, such as drawing a card or gaining LP, can be willingly applied to other players instead.
  • If a player reaches 0 LP, all cards they own are removed from the Duel, but they are still eligible to receive loot if the boss is defeated.
  • Alternate win effects cannot be applied by players.
  • Additional rule changes may and very likely will apply to specific bosses or phases.

Upon successfully clearing a Raid Duel, all participating players immediately get a piece of loot, and the boss additionally will drop some extra loot as well, for which players can roll against each other to see who gets a given drop. These drops can include cards, cosmetic items, pets, mounts, and more.

Teams

Spoiler

Battle Horizon teams serve the same function as guilds in other MMOs. A group of players united for a larger goal, though what that is can vary from team to team. Teams also have a four-letter tag associated with them, which is visible above the player's name. This tag is unique per team to avoid confusion.

Known Teams

Spoiler

KaibaCorp <CORP>
The official KaibaCorp team, reserved only for company employees who play the game. This includes game moderators, customer support, community managers, and unrelated employees who just happen to play Battle Horizon in their free time. Rumor has it if you can impress a KaibaCorp employee, you might get something nice.

Royal Flush <FLSH>
Every game has a "best team" revered by the community. Creature Slayer has Team Darkness, Hall of Heroes has SJT, and Battle Horizon has Royal Flush. Owing to incredible coordination and being made up of actual pro duelists, Royal Flush is noted to have world-firsted the highest-end boss in patch 1.0, then proceeding to world first the final challenge bosses for every subsequent patch as well. However, due to a major disagreement between members, three of Royal Flush's original five members left the team recently. While they've since been replaced, people believe it's now anyone's game to take a world first from Royal Flush.

Heroes of the Horizon <HOTH>
Battle Horizon's foremost RP team. Anyone who's in the game's RP community most likely either is part of this team, or knows someone who is. On a gameplay level they're largely casual, but the quest for good cosmetics has prompted some of them to become among Battle Horizon's finest solo players, and the team's loremasters can be startlingly good at translating their lore knowledge into gameplay knowledge, the latter of which has been an invaluable service to discovering hidden bosses in the past. It's unspoken community manners to leave them alone if you see them in a large group, since it's likely an RP event.

Team Quake Reactor <QRRE>
One of two teams founded by a former Royal Flush member. A PVP team that wasted no time cleaving through the ranked ladders, thanks in no small part to their incredibly aggressive playstyles and their leader being the most successful PVP duelist in Battle Horizon. They don't seem to have any real interest in raiding, but where there's an event to pit them against other players, they likely won't be far. The team only ever has three members, but the two non-leader members seem to change fairly often.

Squad 21 <NIJU>
One of two teams founded by a former Royal Flush member. Much like Royal Flush, it's a raiding team, and the exact differences between the two besides roster aren't entirely clear for the most part. The only clear difference seems to be that while Royal Flush was fully committed to hardcore, high-end raiding, Squad 21 is also open to more casual content. In fact, it's quite rare for them to do high-end content, but the looming promise of the game's first "superboss" seems to have caught their attention. The semi-casual atmosphere of Squad 21 has lent itself well to a large roster.

(NPC) Players of Renown

Spoiler

Kaibaman

Spoiler

latest.png

Not to be confused with Seto Kaiba, who has a Battle Horizon account but only logged in once to join the official KaibaCorp team, while the game was still in beta stages. Kaibaman is an anonymous KaibaCorp employee who serves as Battle Horizon's main community manager, and runs both the official Battle Horizon social media accounts and the official OurTube channel with enthusiasm and a sincere love for the game. He also is responsible for in-game announcements and game moderation, and can regularly be found participating in game events during his downtime. Overall, he is both one of the most beloved players of Battle Horizon for his enthusiasm and transparency, and an invaluable KaibaCorp employee who does his best to make sure the game stays fun for everyone.

Affiliation: KaibaCorp (employee)
Deck: As a moderator, Kaibaman has access to every card available in Battle Horizon, and he likes to change decks often to keep his gameplay experience fresh and exciting.
Offline identity: Unknown

King

Spoiler

latest.png

Of the power couple that founded Royal Flush, King is the thinker. While much of Royal Flush's initial roster was comprised of pro duelists, King is notably not one himself. Rather, he's a longtime MMO veteran, very used to doing high-end content as a raid leader. Combining his MMO experience with Queen's dueling abilities, and taking advantage of game mechanics that can only be properly taken advantage of in the Raid Duels offered by Battle Horizon, the pair quickly rose to be the greatest raiding team at all with some assistance. He seemed to have taken the team's breakup rather personally, disappearing from the game and social media for a time after it happened. With the anniversary about to start, however, he's started logging in again.

His status as the leader of the game's greatest raiding team, and his in-game avatar, may give off an intimidating appearance, but anyone who's actually interacted with him has attested that the reality is King is anything but. Even in the comments of his OurTube videos dissecting boss mechanics and counterstrategies, King is kind, helpful, and a bit of a softie. A common misconception for people who don't look past the surface level of raiding is the idea that King is the single greatest Battle Horizon player; an idea he won't waste any time firmly denying, claiming that he's just a good planner, and is in fact middling at best in every other regard.

Affiliation: Royal Flush (leader)
Deck: Dragon goodstuff feat. Red-Eyes
Offline identity: Unknown

Queen

Spoiler

latest.png

Of the power couple that founded Royal Flush, Queen is the force of action. Headstrong, abrasive, and fiercely protective of King, she was formerly a high-ranking pro duelist who retired early in life to live happily ever after with her husband. Once Battle Horizon hit, the combination of her dueling ability and King's experience in forming MMO strategies proved to be a match made in heaven to see Royal Flush become a raiding team with unparalleled success. If any one person in Royal Flush can be credited for the team's success, it's her, as while King is responsible for forming overarching strategies, it's Queen who not only puts them into action, but improvises backup plans if King's plans get thrown astray.

Queen is also responsible for managing Royal Flush's recruitment. While her stanndards were already strict before the team broke up, afterwards they were elevated to such standards that not a single applicant has been granted entry. As it stands, the team's only members are herself and King, but she seems confident the two of them will still be enough to clear future content.

Affiliation: Royal Flush (member)
Deck: Dragon goodstuff feat. Supreme King
Offline identity: Sayoko Ikeda, former pro duelist

Magpie

Spoiler

82183_WHHWwsRQ.png
made using Picrew #82183

An American pro duelist who came to Japan after becoming the champion of her home country, in search of stronger and stronger opponents. She took an interest in Battle Horizon mostly because it's a novel experience, and there are unique twists to dueling in the game that simply wouldn't work in real life. While she still attends real-life tournaments, to great success at that, her attention in the last year has largely been focused on Battle Horizon, where her extremely aggressive style of dueling has seen her become the game's single-greatest PVP duelist. Has no interest in weak opponents, but ending up on her radar could be seen as even worse, depending on who you ask. It's generally believed she's directly responsible for Royal Flush's breakup, and some of her fans speculate she orchestrated the whole thing just to watch other teams scramble and fight to fill the power vacuum it left.

Affiliation: Royal Flush (former member), Team Quake Reactor (founder)
Deck: Dinomorphia
Offline identity: Madeline Harper, pro duelist

AppleT

Spoiler

459ea80e1c139cda2c1d99bf1667c4274824a5ff

In short, an incredibly unlucky person. While AppleT was technically a pro duelist once, he'd never won a tournament or even gotten past the second round, and nobody had even heard of him before. In-game, he initially attempted to find his niche in PVP, and was met with equally disastrous results. How did such a person end up being a major contributor to the former strongest raiding team in Battle Horizon? By happening to be in the right place at the right time, of course, with a deck that just so happened to fit in perfectly with what the team needed. AppleT wound up becoming something of a people's champ, since the reality was that he was just a casual player who stumbled into something way over his head, and he made a point to never forget it.

After Royal Flush broke up, AppleT expressed some hesitant relief on social media, stating that he hoped to remain on good terms with his former teammates, but that hardcore raiding was more work than he'd expected. He'd shortly after go on to found the more casual Squad 21. He is now learning that managing what is quickly becoming one of the most popular teams in the Japanese server is also more work than he expected. While executive power is ultimately his, he's left a lot of the management to trusted team members, having since given up on pro dueling to try a career in streaming. Considering it's AppleT, who fans joke is the universe's punching bag, it's actually going pretty well when technical difficulties don't get in his way. His laid-back attitude and engagement with chat - fans and haters alike - has done wonders to expand a base that got established as part of Royal Flush.

Affilitation: Royal Flush (former member), Squad 21 (leader)
Deck: Dragonmaid
Offline identity: Name unknown, former pro duelist, OurTube streamer

TheSilentBard

Spoiler

134965_3jM4hJcZ.png
made using Picrew #134965

Battle Horizon's number-one loremaster. Although he leads the game's primary RP team, Bard only very rarely participates in RP events himself. He also doesn't raid or PVP. Instead, his field of interest is exploring the world KaibaCorp's development team put out for the game to try and unify the myriad archetypes of Duel Monsters into a single cohesive universe, and compiling his findings to share with others. While his following is rather small for a Battle Horizon content creator, his videos have been extremely valuable for both RPers and for completionists looking for hidden bosses. Although Bard's not a bad person, his no-nonsense attitude and tendency to correct others can make him difficult to get along with.

Affiliation: Heroes of the Horizon (leader)
Deck: Burning Abyss
Offline identity: Unknown

Not gonna lie, I completely forgot I even had an account here lmao. I'm just going to pretend I just registered.

BUT EITHER WAY, MY GOOD FRIEND YUIBIE THE KEKIBIE FROM NCM WHOM I MET APPROXIMATELY 8-9 YEARS AGO ON A ROLEPLAYING SITE, I AM HERE AS PROMISED TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR RP NOW THAT YOU WENT THROUGH THE TROUBLE OF SETTING IT UP.

Looking forward to it. It's been like... 5 years since I've roleplayed or even made a character, though, so go easy on me lol. Good timing for this to happen, at least, since I'll be done with finals for good next week and will have a whole month off to chill.

Edit: Oh yeah, I should probably also mention that I haven't played Yugioh for 5 years either. Stopped around the time Grinder Golem got banned and never looked back. I'm pretty sure I still remember most of the mechanics and stuff, but I might need to get brought up to speed every so often.

Appearance:

Spoiler

dcrd77h-379b19c0-6ea5-4011-88f3-63f93214

Personality

Spoiler

TheLegend27 is a cheerful guy. It is obvious he is a roleplayer, talking up his role as a great hero. He loves injecting justice into everything he says. It is unknown why he decided to join a proper raid group instead of an RP group, but he is determined to pull his weight in the team. He plays as a classic tank, protecting his allies with a cry of great justice! He is the kind of guy that would give away his rare item or card drop to someone else who'd want it if they are part of the same raid group.

Because of this habit, he has grind out a lot of the old patch bosses. He knows his way around them. He's not the best at improving, but is great at sticking to a plan.

Light My Fire

Spoiler

"I'm going to rise to the top...till the whole world knows my name."

Personal Information
Name: Roy Spectrum
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Appearance:

Spoiler

Ei6ccCB.png

Personality:

Spoiler

An intelligent young man with an inferiority complex to boot, Roy can easily be described as try-hard by most of his peers. Trying to accomplish something simply by imitation...and honestly, that's what they all generally think of him. With his adoration of Seto Kaiba being established, he's seen as just being someone who is simply obsessed with him and trying to copy every facet of his life. In actuality, this isn't the case entirely. All Roy wishes to do is emulate and follow what worked for his idol, to be able to reach out and break the monotony of his plain, boring life...to MAKE something of himself. If that makes him seem like a try-hard, then so be it.

He's not a stranger to working with others or helping others, but if the situation calls for it, Roy will easily just power through things by himself. After all, that's what he had to do for a good portion of his life at the orphanage before he was adopted: when you can't rely on others, all you have left is yourself. He's nothing short of a hard worker, trying his best to be noticed and get recognition as much as possible...again...this coming from his days at the orphanage, but he's trying his best to keep from having this continue to happen...it's slow going, unfortunately.

In regards to the inferiority complex that was mentioned earlier, Roy has been battling his demons with this one. Since his time at the orphanage, he's been dealing with the feelings of inadequacy and just plain inferior to others, which has done nothing but fuel his desire to gain recognition more and more.

Biography:

Spoiler

"Don't pretend to think you know anything. You probably had greatness dropped in your lap... Me? I've been working towards it."

Roy Spectrum didn't get to know his parents. Dropped at the Domino City Orphanage, he was just another normal kid…nothing extraordinary about him, only his smarts but nothing grand. All he had was his name, not even his surname at the time. He was just plain ol' Roy…and for most of his life, he hated it. Despised it even…

Of course, he eventually was adopted by an older woman named Amber Spectrum. She cared for the young boy, treated him truly like the son she never had. It was something that Roy enjoyed for a time, especially with his new foster mother getting him more involved in Duel Monsters. But alas, he still couldn't get over the fact that his lot in life was just something he couldn't escape from…he was just wanting to break out of it and be something…exceptional.

This is when he found just what he was looking for: an aspiration in what he wanted to be. He found an idol and hero he aspired to be like…and surprisingly…it wasn't the proclaimed King of Games. No, it was the second best Duelist there was: Seto Kaiba, the CEO of KaibaCorp. For whatever the reason, Roy was enthralled with the way that Kaiba lived his life. Despite the challenges he had along the way, even being started from a humble beginning as an orphan, he rose to the top and became something far more exceptional in life. He and his company took what I² created and expanded on it with holographic technology and even the Duel Disks. He MADE something of himself. And Roy wanted this…

His goal was set in his mind now: he, Roy Spectrum, would make something of his life like Kaiba did. Research into his idol began, learning about his past, his achievements, his current standings…everything he could (though apparently everything overlooked the more supernatural elements of things). It was during this that he actually figured out his Duel Monsters deck and ace that would lead him into this new era of his life: Red Dragon Archfiend, a dark dragon born from the fiery pits of Hell. Blue-Eyes seemed to easy…plus in bad taste…he didn't want to copy his idol, just emulate him and be like him. No, copying him would defeat the whole purpose. Either way, Roy had purpose…he had a plan…to found his own gaming company, Spectra Industries, and just needed a way to make it a reality and get noticed.

Enter KaibaCorp's latest venture into virtual reality: Battle Horizon. Naturally, Roy had been keeping an eye on it and the development process it had (getting ideas and the like to use later in life with his future company), but now…Royal Flush, the top BH Duel Team had disbanded. And with it…a unique opportunity arose. With this top team disbanding, there would now be a power vacuum in trying to clamor for the top spot. If he somehow found himself in a team himself, assist said team in order to climb to the top of the leader boards and then defeat the "super boss"...perhaps he could be taken notice of. It was no strange feat to hear that the KaibaCorp members and workers to be in BH, after all, it was the company's game…but the rumors were that if one could impress an employee…they might get something nice. What it was, no one knew…but this was something Roy needed. He needed to be taken notice of by KC…if he did, that could easily shoot him up from where he was to the point where he could actually make his own company.

His future was definitely riding all on this gamble…and Roy would be an idiot and a fool to not take this gamble.

Deck:

Spoiler

Deck Loadout #1 - Through the Fire and the Flames
From the deepest depths of Hell, emerges a powerful crimson dragon which will reduce everything to ashes.

The Red Dragon Archfiend deck that Roy uses is comprised of the Red archetype and the Resonator archetype, two series of cards that have quite the amount of synergy between the two giving way for the deck to be able to possibly access Double Tuning with the various effects of the Resonators being able to facilitate Synchro Summons. The Red aspect, however, is pure destruction and just anything and everything you can imagine to overwhelm the opponent...culminating in one monster in particular, at least in Roy's opinion: Red Dragon Archfiend, his ace monster.

Deck Loadout #2 - ???

Duel Skills:

Spoiler

Tune Rewiring
Cooldown: 2 Turns
Select a face-up monster you control and choose one of the following:

  • If it's a Tuner, make it a non-Tuner, until the End Phase.
  • If it's a non-Tuner, make it a Tuner, until the End Phase.

You can only use one effect of Tune Rewiring once per Cooldown.

Rage Resynchro
Cooldown: 3 Turns
You may Synchro Summon Synchro Monsters from your GY this turn. When you do, target monster your opponent controls loses 100 Atk x that monsters Level, until the End Phase.

Baptized in Fire
Cooldown: Once Per Raid Duel
Can only be used in Raid Duels. Once Per Raid Duel: Target 1 player with 0 LP; return that player to the Duel with 4000 LP and have them Special Summon one Extra Deck Monster with 3000 ATK or less, ignoring their Summoning Conditions (this counts as an Extra Deck Summon).

Miscellaneous Information
Roy's Theme | Duel Theme | Summoning Ace

  • Roy's name means the following: Roy - a name that derives from the Norman "roy", which means "king". Spectrum - generally means "a band of colors, as seen in a rainbow, produced by separation of the components of light by their different degrees of refraction according to wavelength".
  • Roy's first name also has a different meaning hidden in it, as Roy can also be something to remember the first three colors in the rainbow spectrum: "Red Orange Yellow".
  • -
  • The Duel Skills, Rage Resynchro and Tune-Up/Tuner Reversal, were made by Faytl and Giga respectively.
  • The original version of Roy, debuting in Skies 1.0, used Crystal Beasts (before the time of their updated support). However, in working with this iteration, I found Crystal Beasts weren't going to be able to work properly for him.

Ivy9d: The Thorny Riposte

Spoiler

Name: Akari Okodaito
Username: Ivy9d (pronounced “Ivy Nined”). Also called Ivy
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance:

AFK-

Spoiler

dc467e0677d3e7bcda7859fe27336306.jpg

Akari is 5'1 and slight, with long red hair. She is short for her age and is very self-conscious about it, not liking how she looks much younger than she actually is.

Online-

Spoiler

f56c296e944cb78cfc3b2baa929a55ff.jpg

Ivy's avatar wears heels and is quite a bit taller than Akari herself, as she is sensitive about being short. She moved very gracefully and forcefully, and her hair seems to have a knack for flowing behind her in a perfect serpentine pattern. She also wields a sword that resembles a long branch with a great thorn growing from the hilt. This acts as her duel disk in duel events.

Personality: In real life, Akari is a scrappy, hard-done-by individual. She’s got the weight of a lot of pressures on her as a girl in private school who is also the member of the student council who has the most dumped on her plate by her fellows. A very hard worker and allergic to laziness, Akari throws herself into any given task with bullheaded stubbornness. She is energetic and enthusiastic, but lacks the courage to speak up for herself in real life, feeling overwhelmed by the weight of expectations placed upon her. Battle Horizon is where she goes for a release from that, and she’s very bold and confident while on the server, edging up towards recklessness. She’s a clever smartass and she tends to lack patience on the server, since her schoolwork means she doesn’t get as much time on Battle Horizon as she likes. She’s unused to working as part of a team as she’s used to having to do everything herself, leading to a bit of an inflated opinion of her own skill level. She has few close friends and is somewhat awkward in conversation, especially since her confidence comes off as arrogance often. She hasn’t learned to enjoy dueling on the casual level, not really knowing how not to be a tryhard, though she lacks the experience to play at the high levels.

Biography: Akari has had a life of expectations and pure, boring drudgery. Daughter of a local Kyushu politician, she and her two older brothers have always been expected to be excellent, real go-getters. High grades and plenty of extracurriculars. Akari was brought up in a household where her two brash older brothers dominated the conversation, and she wasn’t great at making friends. She had very little in the way of things to express herself, especially as she got older and took on more responsibilities at her private school, where she became a long-suffering, put-upon member of the student council.
She was introduced to Duel Monsters properly by way of Battle Horizon’s release. She had always liked watching dueling, but had very little time to cultivate any skill in it herself. Battle Horizon let her invest time in the hobby from her own home, and she dove deep on the hobby quickly, hooked. Now a year later she has cultivated a decent chunk of experience, improving quickly and loving having Battle Horizon as an escape from her boring, everyday life. She’s taken on a much more lively persona on the platform, less out of a desire to engage with the roleplay element of the game and moreso because she just feels more able to be herself there.

Deck: Ivy plays a Plant deck focused around summoning a wide variety of powerful monsters like Gigaplant, Plant Princesses, and Rose Angels. She also supplements her strategy with strong Synchro Monsters like Periallis, Emperor of Blossoms and her ace monster, Fleur de Chevalier, alongside other Fleur cards like Sorciere de Fleur. She backs up her strong offense with a litany of trap cards like Wall of Thorns, Torrential Tribute, and Attack Guidance Armor.

Duel Skills:

"I'd rather fail as me than succeed as someone else, so I'll settle for the middle ground of succeeding as me."

Name: ???
Username: Teimei
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Appearance (in-game):

Spoiler

sky_striker_mobilize___engage_extended_a

official card art extended by

Teimei's in-game avatar uses appearance data from the alternate card art of "Sky Striker Mobilize - Engage!".

Personality:

Spoiler

A girl who believes that more than anything, your worth is proven through your actions. Teimei carries herself with the air of a cunning and ruthless businesswoman, who always aims for the top and isn't particularly concerned about who she'll have to manuever around to get there. She pretends to have an aura of frigid, stoic competence, but the reality is she's a girl ruled by her emotions. While still more than capable of seeing a given task through to its completion, the greatest roadblock Teimei typically has to deal with is, in fact, Teimei herself.

As a general rule, Teimei prefers not to ask for favors unless she absolutely cannot do something by herself. This isn't to say she's not a team player though; in fact, she believes teamwork is one of the most powerful things in the world. If made to work in a team, she'll gladly work as part of a larger unit, but will ultimately try to do things her own way. An important thing to note about Teimei is that she wants her accomplishments to be her own, or her team's in relevant cases. She doesn't like copying others, relying on external parties or resources, and she definitely doesn't like giving up. Likewise, she doesn't like being copied or relied on, and is an adamant voice for unflinching tenacity in the face of overwhelming odds & adversity.

Biography:

Spoiler

Teimei is incredibly secretive about her offline life. Online, however, her history with the game started with its announcement. Battle Horizon provided a way to duel others online without losing the human element of seeing your opponent right there with you. Teimei pre-ordered the game as soon as it was available, and upon its release, immediately took to the PVP scene. As a 1-on-1 duelist, Teimei was a fairly formidable opponent, but as of yet, there is no official ladder for 1v1 duels, with most mainline PVP content geared toward 3-man teams. She tried to join a team in an attempt to climb and reach the top rank, but had trouble getting along with members of these teams, finding them far too competitive to the point of competing with each other just as much as their opponents, if not outright toxic, or even both. So, she looked at raiding instead. A new frontier of dueling, where she could make her mark!

Or so she had planned, anyway.

The reality was that Royal Flush was just too damn good at raids, to the point where most raiding teams wanted to simply copy their strategies. Teimei was having none of that, and so raid teams didn't work out either. But eventually, Royal Flush broke up just in time for the 1-year anniversary event to almost begin. With the kings of raiding split up across the game, and a superboss unlike anything seen before soon to be announced, Teimei took a shot at founding her own team. Getting signatures wasn't easy, but in the end, she managed to scrounge up a few players that hadn't already been scouted out by others in the wave of new teams looking to down the impending superboss.

Deck:

Spoiler

Shiranui
An archetype of FIRE Zombie monsters that utilize Synchro Summoning. The archetype has an additional emphasis on activating additional effects when banished. Notable ace monsters are Shiranui Shogunsaga and Shiranui Sunsaga. However, Teimei only uses this deck in PVE, finding her preferred deck unsuitable for such things as Raid Duels and instead saving that for PVP.

Duel Skills:

Spoiler

Collateral Damage
If a monster you control destroys an opponent's monster by battle (Quick Effect): Target 1 other monster your opponent controls with less ATK than your attacking monster; destroy that target, and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the difference between its ATK and the ATK of your attacking monster. (Cooldown: 4)

Soul Consumption
Banish any number of monsters from your GY; you gain LP equal to the number of banished cards x700. (Cooldown: 3)

Defiance
Can only be used in Raid Duels. Once per Raid Duel, if you are the only player remaining: For the rest of this Duel, monsters you control gain 1000 ATK, and the cooldown of your Duel Skills is reduced by 1. There must be at least 1 player with 0 LP to activate and resolve this effect. (Cooldown: Once per Raid Duel)

My Body as a Sword
Pay 1500 LP; destroy 1 card on the field. (Cooldown: 3)
(replaces Defiance when outside of Raid Duels)

Misc:

Spoiler

When written in kanji, the username Teimei can mean the forming of an alliance (締盟) or an imperial order (帝命).

Doesn't actually know anything about Battle Horizon's lore or story. She skipped every cutscene and didn't pay much attention to quest dialogue.

Name: Eris Tomonara

Username: LazyEye219

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Appearance: In the MMO, Eris uses an avatar based off of Medusa, Watcher of the Evil Eye. She’s modified the appearance to match her real self by changing the hair length to be just below the neck, and the color to a platinum blonde. She also changed the one yellow eye to be blue.

In reality, Eris’s eyes are indeed blue and her hair is a very light blonde. She’s rather pale, a bit on the short side, and tends to wear hoodies with sleeves so long that they dangle a bit over her hands.

Personality: Eris is a bit of a procrastinator, usually leaving small tasks to other people. While this comes off of being lazy, she is a team player when it counts and is willing to help when something big comes up. She’s also a bit on the quiet side, never really engaging in conversation much, unless it’s about something important. She never really shows any anger or hatred towards anyone or anything, keeping a mellow and calm demeanor, and shrugging off anything that would irritate others.

Biography: Eris doesn’t talk much about her real life. The most she has shared with anyone is that she wasn’t originally born in Japan, but rather she and her parents moved there to live closer to other family members. Growing up, she didn’t have the best luck making friends. She would always come across as boring to those around her. As a result, she grew to be very reserved and quiet, spending her days either holed up in her room, or playing Duel Monsters. Duel Monsters was really the only hobby she had that involved interaction with other people, using it as a means to try and make friends but to no avail.

When Battle Horizon came out, she figured this would be the best chance she had. It was way easier to look interesting to people online than it was in reality, at least that’s what she thought. Once she joined, she made sure to do whatever she could to make new friends, keeping to herself as a solo player when her attempts weren’t exactly bearing fruit. But it wasn’t until the disbanding of the top team, Royal Flush, that she decided to join an actual team herself. With a bunch of new teams forming up, she’d have no problem finding one that would accept her.

Deck: Evil Eye Dominance

Eris uses a deck containing the Evil Eye archetype, a group of cards focused around the use of Medusa and Serziel who, lore wise, fight over the power of the Evil Eye of Selene. This Equip Card is the centerpiece of the archetype. Through the cost of life points, Eris can reap the benefits of the Evil Eye of Selene, empowering her Spells/Traps and the monster it’s equipped too. Her endgame goal is to summon the Link versions of Medusa and Serziel, Gorgon and Zerrziel, who serve as her deck’s boss monsters.

Deck Skills

Fiendish Gaze: Target a Fiend-Type monster on your side of the field. That monster gains ATK and DEF equal to its Level/Rank/Link Rating x200, then all of your opponent’s face-up monsters lose ATK and DEF equal to that monster’s Level/Rank/Link Rating x200. (cooldown 3)

Equipment Renewal: Discard a card from your hand to the GY; Add an Equip Spell from your GY, or that has been Banished, to your hand or equip it to an appropriate target on the field. If equipped by this effect, that Equip Spell cannot be destroyed by card effect until the end of your next turn. (cooldown 2)

Ravenous Destruction: Target a monster on your side of the field. During the next Battle Phase, if the targeted monster destroys an opponent’s monster by battle, gain life points equal to the destroyed monster’s ATK or DEF (whichever is higher). (cooldown 2)

Appearance In-Game:

Essentially like this, although not exactly. It's more like Hector modeled his armor and clothing to mimic the look of Steelswarm Moth. The wings function like a cloak, while the Moth's head functions as a kind of mask/hood/helmet he can use and disable at will. Beneath that, his appearance is similar to himself. Also, he doesn't have a tail, as usable extra appendages from monster designs aren't a thing yet.

Personality

Spoiler

hE is veRY cALm and cHiLl anD suPeR go lUcKY buT wHEn hE dUEls hE bEcoMes veRy sERiOus, cOld, anD sADIstIC.

But in all seriousness, Hector does try to consistently maintain an air of formality and composure, even to the point of aloofness. He believes it befitting of his high stature… and necessary as well to ward of false friends and critics, really anyone who might try to use his connection to wealth against him and for their own benefit. Hector has become somewhat suspicious and inhibited as a result, sometimes leading others to see him as cold and haughty.

On some level, those assumptions are true. Hector has always been selective of who he’ll spend his time with, and his way of responding to others on a “superficial” level is sometimes cold and curt even if unintentional. He is also rather vain, taking great care of and pride in his natural looks and outward presentation, and being critical of those who do not at least try to make themselves look presentable. Decorum is also important to him, with social transgressions against him or others when “they should know better than that” being a surefire way to earn his genuine distaste.

He’ll act much the same way in duels as well, though certain subtle gestures may betray the full depth of what he’s feeling; he may draw his lips into a thin line to hide a satisfied smile over a good play or victory, or his eyes might narrow and take on a “steelier” appearance when frustrated and under unfavorable circumstances.

Overall, though, Hector is not pathologically narcissistic, and will generally be willing to talk and interact with most people so long as they have common courtesy and propriety. Interacting with Hector for longer periods and on a more personal level reveals him to be respectful and rather amicable. Especially among select friends and family, he is much less uptight and more relaxed, with his emotional expressiveness coming through more freely and as a slight surprise.

Biography:

Spoiler

Hector has moved to Japan fairly recently following the expansion of his family’s company. The company, dealing in the sale and development of unethical biological weapons and creatures pharmaceuticals, means he has always been extremely well off, enjoying luxury and comfort, and attending the best schools no matter where he went.

Raised to eventually inherit and manage the growing company, however, Hector does inwardly feel that he’s missed out on a lot of “youthful” activities, such as engaging in shenanigans with friends or just chilling in ordinary locations without any of the pressure of formal settings. The one thing he has been able to enjoy that’s considered a relatively “universal” pastime and even profession, is dueling. Dueling has often given Hector the excuse he needed to be on his own and interact with people outside of his usual settings, even if he didn’t necessarily make many friends due to his usual public disposition. Still, it was fun and removed from the formalities and pressures of his life, which is what mattered most. He was good enough to gain some recognition and notoriety within those venues as well, and competed in an informal manner (i.e., he competed, but without any lofty aspirations of becoming a known, pro duelist) rather well. It was neat, being given attention for something other than the company.

The announcement of Battle Horizon coincided with Hector’s recent move to Japan, making it an exciting occasion and a good opportunity for him to get to know people and make friends in a more “hidden”, or indirect manner, as well as enjoy dueling in a new way. He preordered on the spot and was one of the first to log on when it finally released. He definitely enjoyed the story and single-player aspect of the game and ended up primarily sticking to solo content despite occasional intentions of joining up with a clan or raiding with others. With the disbanding of Royal Flush and the announcement of a new mysterious superboss, however, Hector finally decided to take the plunge and join with an actual clan, this one being completely new and without any of the expectations and requirements of the older and more popular clans.

Deck: Hector runs an “lswarm” deck focused heavily on the Steelswarm variant of the archetype. Steelswarms aim to tribute for various effects, ideally amassing advantage, board presence, and control of the game while delaying and disorienting the opponent’s plays.

"lswarm" Customs

Duel Skills:

Spoiler

1) Exact Tribute: This turn, monsters you control count as 2 Tributes for a Tribute Summon. During the turn you activate this skill, you can Tribute Summon 1 monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set, also, until the End Phase, each time you Tribute Summon a monster, draw 1 card. (Cooldown: 3)

2) Fearsome Approach: This turn, your opponent cannot activate card effects in response to a Tribute Summon. Whenever you Tribute a monster this turn, destroy a card on the field unless your opponent discards 1 card. (Cooldown: 4 Turns)

3) Kingly One: Return up to X cards on the field to the hand, where X is the number of Tribute Summoned monsters you control. (Cooldown: 5 Turns)

Misc:

Spoiler

1) Hector has an interactive pet in-game, a mischievous little Steelswarm Scout that follows him around the world of Battle Horizon. Scout is usually seen hovering by his side or perched on his shoulder, and will often involve himself in Hector’s duels by doing things like celebrating the destruction of an opponent’s monster or acting with astonishment when a fellow Steelswarm is destroyed.

2) While idling, Hector’s summoned Steelswarm monsters have been known to communicate with each other in a strange, distorted, droning language befitting of them as a race of biomechanical insectoid demons. They also have idling animations, ranging from things such as Mantis sharpening his blades against each other, Moth flapping his wings and momentarily flying into the air, and Girastag charging and checking the gun he has for an arm.

3) Unintentionally, Hector's clothes in the image I used for him follow Steelswarm Moth's color scheme lol. Also I have no idea why this text is smaller than everything else.

Yui: Fun dude. We talked more about his bio behind the scenes so not worried about the length presented here. Additional shoutout for being the only person here - myself included - to use one of the example duel skills. Accepted.
Sai: I don't think he put enough detail in his fucking app. His avatar also doesn't match the theme of his deck. What a fucking loser.

Accepted.

Yui: Not the type of personality I'd usually expect you to go with. A change of pace is always fun. Bio is pretty neat. Very cohesive, solid app overall.
Sai: I like the direction you took Roy this time. It's better than the Zai RP, which is not hard to do, but it is.

Accepted.

Yui: It was at the point of seeing Ivy's app that I realized. This is going to be an RP about a team where nobody in it is a team player.
Sai: I like her character. I can't wait to see how she fumbles around with the team.

Accepted.

Yui: Garbage app. 10/10.
Sai: And this was the start of the trend where almost everyone was the heir to a corporation. I like her better than the old version of her. She is no longer a screeching harpy.

Accepted.

Your text is tiny and you're short a duel skill. Also, I'm gonna need more details on her offline life story. Not quite up to the standards that I've been holding everyone else's apps up to; will have to discuss further with Sai. Lastly, a nitpick: we're in-universe for the anime so it's called Duel Monsters not Yugioh
Sai: It's alright. Please do not use this fucking font size or color during the RP. I will find you if you do.

Acceptance pending.

Yui: Last-minute entry, but worth the wait. App is pretty well written. Lotta custom cards. Make sure not to lose track of em.
Sai: I think it's pretty good. It's definitely the most detailed out of all the apps we've got. The first paragraph of your personality has won my favor. It is a good app.

Accepted.
