To Applicant ___

Congratulations. You have been selected for our new Region Transfer Program, and are being offered a once in a life time opportunity to attend the prestigious Naranja Academy for this school semester. In addition, you will be allowed the chance to participate in the school’s treasure hunt, a time honored tradition.

If you applied, you no doubt already know what this means, but for the few who do not know, you’ll be given the opportunity to explore the Paldea region, participate in the Gym Challenge, make new friends… And as of this year, participate in Paldea’s first Pokemon Conference League, thanks to the aid of the Pokemon Activities Committee. For you aspiring Coordinators, this is the chance to earn a prestigious title as the Paldea Region’s first Top Coordinator.

With this all said, it is important to note that the school has one major rule you must follow: Always be searching for your next step. It is always easy to lose yourself, or lose your way. We here at the Academy are dedicated to making sure our students come out better than they entered, and that goes double for our students from far regions.

Students from non-Paldea are being accepted in a student transfer, you can be one of those lucky students! There will be an in universe three-five month time spam we skip over, that'll be classes and stuff, so I'll set up a list of teachers, but most of them are going to be straight from the game itself, so if you need a quick refresher check the database below!

Rules

Spoiler

Don't be a dick, at this point, I think that goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway.

I'll take temporary control of characters to advance things if needed, but that's a last resort. Just lemme know if you're not in a spot to post.

Character interaction is the bread and butter of this, between you all especially! Be friendly friends. 🙂

I'd like to keep this around 4-6 characters, so just think about your character in a group of roughly that size.

Contest Information

Spoiler

Contests are split into two main phases. The Performance Stage and the Battle Stage.

The Performance Stage has individuals performing their routines with a single, or occasionally two, Pokemon. These routines are developed by the trainer themself, based on what their Pokemon are capable of doing, and are judged by a panel of judges. Based on a score of 1-10, the performers with the highest totals move onto the next stage...

The Battle Phase is a small mini-tournament of the remaining participants, where the goal is to deplete the opponent's points in a 5 minute battle. The judges decide point reductions as the battle occurs, and points can be deducted for a number of reasons. Points can be lost when a Trainer's Pokemon is hit by an attack, when their attack fails, when the opponent's Pokémon performs a particularly appealing move, or when the opponent's Pokémon uses their Pokémon's attack to its own advantage.

In rare cases, a Pokemon being knocked out does occur during the five minute timer. When this occurs, that Trainer is automatically declared out, and the opponent moves to the next round. The last trainer standing wins the Contest and obtains a Contest Ribbon.

Wistful One

Helena Sofonea

Birthday & Age
17 years old, born on April 30

Appearance
helenastarlight.png

Personality
Helena is a sassy and playful person, with a sense of humor to match. She tends to go with the flow, keeping her eyes wide open to take in everything she can... and maybe to take the piss out of it at times. But hey, what's a life where you can't laugh at the absurd?

Background
Born in a region to the east of Kalos, Helena grew up with her twin brother, Douglas, mother, and father. Running a specialty shop in one of the many gym cities of the region, Helena watched lots of trainers come and go, alongside her brother, but she never really... understood it. Having Pokemon to journey and have fun with made sense, but fighting? Not so much. There were such exciting things, like the contests from other regions!

Of course, she was an odd child who... wouldn't likely perform well in contests, and even she knew that. But a girl can dream, right? Surely, she just had to show people the potential! She dragged her brother along into her misadventures in these attempts, even picking up resources from the store to assist in her plans, even though Doug himself didn't really get her weird mix of styles.

When the twins were 10, they received their first Pokemon from their grandparents, visiting from Paldea: A Klefki for Helena, and Honedge for Doug. While the boy was nervous that his sister would be upset, he only found Helena overjoyed with her new friend, having dubbed it 'Lockpick' instantly. That same visit led to Helena learning of the programs that Paldea offered, but it lacked a major draw to her. Wasn't every place the same as here, albeit with different Pokemon?

Years later, when the twins were older, Doug set off on his own journey around the region, leaving Helena alone at home. Life felt wrong without her brother, incomplete. She had Lockpick and the Pumpkaboo she caught, Jackie, but she wanted more. That was when the information about Paldea having a conference league coming about came to her ears, and she knew what she had to do. Working hard and pleading with her parents, she managed to make it into Naranja Academy, a wide, wicked grin on her face. What on earth could she have in store?

Spoiler

"This is going to be fun...let's kick this into high gear!!"

Character Info
Name: Aruto Takeshi
Gender: Male
Birthday & Age: January 30th | 17
Appearance:

Spoiler

c595771e910036123f591b86ddafe47b.jpg

Personality:

Spoiler

Aruto is extremely high energy and impulsive in most situations. It's namely due to his ADHD, which makes him restless, even where he starts to fidget, rock his knee back and forth and even just having a hard time focusing. It does play a huge role in his school life, in where his grades have slipped some (not to the point of failing), but it will take some major help in focusing on doing things. In all actuality, he'd much rather not be dealing with any school related stuff while at the academy and only deal with the Pokémon side of things.

Pokémon battles and Contests are the one thing he can actually focus with properly, adopting a sort of "Hero of Justice" vibe when he does it. It may be imitation back to his days as a child watching the Mighty Accelguard, but at the same time, he makes it more of a fun thing for him to do in these to both focus more and even get some smiles and laughs from the audiences watching.

Background:

Spoiler

Originally born and raised in the Unova region's Driftveil City, Aruto was fascinated with Pokémon (because what child wouldn't be), but it was also something else that held his fascination too...it was superheroes, namely the heroes of Driftveil City: the Mighty Accelguard. It was something about the costume, the motorcycle and even the Accelgor that this mystery individual had with him. It all seemed to just click in his mind and just have him be enthralled by it. Did he want to be a superhero too? Well, he was young at the time, what child doesn't want to be a superhero and a defender of justice?

Sadly, Aruto's family ended up moving from Driftveil due to some family member passing, therefore was inheriting a small plot of land and a house in a region known as Paldea in a city called Cortondo. His friends were all gone at this point, now being thrust into a new region and new way of life for him...he wasn't too thrilled about it at all. But perhaps what some call destiny was at play here...for this was the region he found his partner. While out and about just playing, Aruto noticed something watching him intently...not shaken, unwavering by the boy's presence...it was here he met Nymble. Their first meeting was...unpleasant, namely due to the Nymble kicking the boy back and running him off. But like this Pokémon, Aruto wasn't going to be shaken by this...this Pokémon was an incredible one to him, and he wanted him as a friend and partner.

Over the months and even years that followed, Aruto and the Nymble fought and even got to the point of becoming friendly rivals. It was simply fun for the both of them. Eventually, however, Aruto asked the Nymble if he would like to become his partner and starter. Oh sure, he could be like the others and just get a starter Pokémon from this region's professor...or in the case here, the director of the academy...but there was just something about this Nymble that he couldn't ignore. To his surprise, the Nymble accepted and the two become partners from that very moment...with Aruto giving him the name Hongo.

Now taking the chance to apply for Naranja Academy and is looking in trying to aim to be the next Paladean Champion with the Gym Challenge, but also take the slot of Top Coordinator with Pokémon Contests. At first he wasn't going to, but he figured this would be another stage he could potentially get his name out in...and it's something he loved...especially if he tried to do things similar to Accelguard in these Contests.

  • Aruto's name is comprised of two different names of two Kamen Riders: Aruto - From Kamen Rider Zero One, Aruto Hiden is the titular Zero One Rider. Takeshi - From the 1971 series Kamen Rider, Hongo Takeshi was the first Rider to step forth.
    • Aruto's starter, Hongo the Nymble, is also a reference to the first Kamen Rider with his name.
  • His catchphrase is "Let's kick this into high gear!".
  • Aruto's Pokémon have been hand selected to fit a general theme, which happens to be centered around Kamen Rider Zero One, in which they are based on either certain Riders or their various form changes. As they're obtained, I'll provide their inspiration:

Learn from the Past to Make a Brighter Future

Spoiler

Character Info

Name: Scully Wilcox

Gender: Male

Birthday & Age: Age 16, born January 27th

Appearance:

1011016_fWGuLHmk.png

Personality: Scully is using his schooling in Paldea to get a fresh start. While outwardly he is very cheerful and clever, he is painfully aware of his social shortcomings, often unsure how to interact in any conversation and very self-conscious about it. He defaults to humor and self-deprecating jokes, setting himself up as the class clown. That aside he is very intelligent and has a large knowledge base about world history and Pokemon, and has a very curious mind. The Great Crater of Paldea in particular is something he's fascinated by the concept of.

He wants very much to be the kind of person that other people don't have to worry about, often feeling like a burden. He has a long way to go, as he lacks world experience and in particular is a poor improviser. He cushions this with a cheerful attitude, having joked before that he would literally rather die than inconvenience anyone. He in particular wants to be a strong battler, having grown up around Canalave's larger-than-life Byron, the Steel-type Gym Leader, all his life. He has the theory down, but he lacks flexibility in battle, and so far has captured Pokemon that are similar to him in that they are not very strong, just yet.

Background: Born in the Sinnoh Region's Canalave City, Scully felt very useless growing up. He was poor at making friends and while he was an extremely quick study he couldn't force his brain to easily retain things he wasn't interested in, and none of the things that he was interested in seemed to be all that useful in day-to-day life. An excitable, bookish boy, Scully loved reading and studying old dusty tomes in the Canalave City Library, and wasn't very good at identifying with the other kids in his neighborhood. He hated swimming while he lived in a seaside location, and places like the abandoned Harbor Inn fascinated him while they made his peers exceedingly nervous. Skully was poor at socializing and was often left to his own devices, spending hours by the day in the Canalave City Library.

One day, when Scully was 14, he saw several other children enter the Library, a group who picked on him often. With his knowledge of the Library he knew how to reach Roof Access, and went up there to hide while the children caused trouble down below. While he was up there, he saw a Pokemon caught in the strong sea winds: A Gligar. From where he was on the roof, he was able to catch Gligar and bring it down to the local Pokemon Center to rest. When he came by the next day to check on it, Gligar was extremely grateful, and kept pointing to a rack of nearby Poke Balls. While Scully was mystified, Nurse Joy figured out that Gligar wanted Scully to capture him. Ecstatic to have a new friend, Scully agreed, and he and Gligar have been inseperable ever since.

His new Pokemon gave him the desire to learn more about Pokemon, and he and Gligar wanted to be seen as strong and capable by everyone they knew. They took to learning how to battle, though Scully was not very good at it, and Gligar was clumsy and uncoordinated. His interest in battling and his strong grades at school eventually earned him a ticket to Paldea to Naranja Academy, and he excitedly went alongside Gligar. He's not left Mezagoza much just yet, but he's shown strong grades and is overly confident that he will manage amazingly.

She's Just In It For The Science

Spoiler

Name: Wendy
Gender: Female
Birthday & Age: May 31st, 18
Appearance:

Appearance:

Spoiler

46940_SSQvjqvA.png

made using Picrew

Due to personal concerns and interests with Paldea's weather patterns, Wendy is never seen without the raincoat & boots displayed here. (art by this incredibly skilled and sexy person)
additional reference by me

Personality:

Spoiler

Wendy is extremely intelligent, but what she makes up for in brainpower, she greatly lacks in social graces. It's not that she dislikes people, she just has trouble conversing in what she'd consider a normal manner. A lot of social rules & cues people may take for granted tend to go right over Wendy's head, making her prone to speaking out of line or saying things people just aren't supposed to say. This is complemented by a stoic, world-class poker face born from a general difficulty expressing herself, and an apparent inability to consider the feelings of others. Despite her overall amicable nature, these traits can make Wendy's attempts at socializing not go very well. There is, however, one social aspect in which Wendy excels.

If asked to do someone a favor, Wendy's generally not one to say no, and is extremely capable of handling most tasks one might ask of her. In fact, her only real weakness in average day-to-day activities is that her cooking might taste a bit bland, which she doesn't seem to mind. Wendy handles these tasks set upon her with a cool-headed sense of confidence and an incredible stubbornness to not stop until the job is done.

Biography:

Spoiler

Born in the Hoenn Region, Wendy was raised somewhat isolated from society. Raised in the tropical rainforests of Route 119, her parents both worked at the nearby Weather Institute, and had little time to afford for a bustling family life. So, left largely to her own devices, she'd read. And simply put, Wendy was gifted. From novels meant for audiences far beyond her age, to peer studies from the Weather Institute itself, to research papers written by foreign professors, Wendy consumed knowledge as if it were just as important as food. Perhaps to spend more time with her family, Wendy chose to gear her studies toward subjects the Weather Institute would be interested in, hoping to become a functional member of society with gainful employment.

A plan that worked to great success. Wendy was brought on board as a young intern at first, before eventually being granted full employment. Being far younger and more able-bodied than most researchers, Wendy's job mostly pertained to matters further across Hoenn, and occasionally into other nearby regions as well. For protection, she was given the Pokémon Castform. It wasn't particularly powerful, but it was certainly better than nothing. As she improved at the jobs given to her, soon reaching the point where she would settle external tasks faster than they came up, Wendy found herself with time to pursue some personal goals. Which brought her to a key question.

"What do I want to do?"

Perhaps it's no mere coincidence, but the hand of fate, that brought her a letter of acceptance from Paldea's one and only Naranja Academy. A school she did not apply to, yet had told her she was accepted? Upon making some inquiries, she found that the Weather Institute had applied her for the Region Transfer Program themselves, for one simple reason. Paldean weather made no sense.

One minute, it would be perfectly warm and sunny, ideal weather for a picnic. The next, rain could pour down and small Pokémon could be blown away. And this could happen seemingly anywhere in the region, at any time. The only reason this even got brought to the Institute's attention was because one of the researchers had just returned from a vacation to Paldea, and brought with them word of this abnormal weather phenomenon. So, the decision had been made to send Wendy to investigate, in an attempt to at least work out an educated guess on why this happens. While a bit put off by them not consulting her first, she ultimately accepted the job.

She hopes to find a more personal ambition along the way.

Birthday & Age: June 13th, 18

Appearance:

Spoiler

FHwFw9oXMAEMuiw.jpg

Personality:

Spoiler

Ryu is a dreaded type. The type that people avoid, the type people bully. He is... a theater kid. A theater kid who lived his life in the sticks. He seems to not understand modern day slang, taking a lot of that slang literally. Not helping that is his awe at seemingly everything around him.

He seems to try to keep a small amount of distance between him and the rest of the group. He won't ignore them or not spend time with them, but an observant person can see his heart isn't in it. This even extends to his Pokemon. He seems to be hesitant to catch new ones, and even seems... a little afraid of them.

Background:

Spoiler

Ryu grew up in Sinnoh, far away from modern civilization. Life wasn't the easiest there, but he was happy. However, everything around him seemed to have other plans for his life. He wasn't sure exactly how it happened, but he was applied to Naranja Academy's Transfer Program without his knowledge or consent. By the time he found out, it was too late. The boy was thrust into a new region, on to a new adventure.

He decided he would try his best to not be bitter about it, despite not liking how it all happened. However, things got worse. On his way to Paldea, one of his Pokemon, his precious partner, was stolen was from him. He does not know where it ended up, but he has a good idea (or at least, a hope) that it is still in Paldea. He has made it his mission to find his Pokemon somewhere in this vast land.

Misc Info:

Has the nickname of Mushi back home. He has no strong feelings about it.

The Korova region, being much less tourist friendly than other regions, isn't one that many people travel to in this day and age. It wasn't prepared to take in visitors with much pomp and circumstances. It did however have one thing going for it when it came to visitors from other regions and that was New Point Landing.
Located at the western edge of an island, which was itself to the west of the mainland, New Point Landing was the main place for visitors coming into the region and it, at least, had a dock that ships could stop at to drop of passengers which was more than can be said about most of the rest of the region.
Once upon a time the city was the place to go for trading and shopping. These days it has fallen far from its high point and many of the stores are closed and boarded up. Awaiting a day that the region was more prosperous. Many of the remaining stores were family-run and managed by stubborn folk who refused to let the city fall completely off of its original purpose. There existed a singular, larger, department store where the rare visitors were able to get most necessities for their travels.
The ship that was currently coming into the dock was different than most that the city would usually see. It resembled a cruise ship more than anything else and instead of supplies from other regions it instead was full of trainers.
Unbeknownst to the people of the city, nor truly the trainers themselves, these passengers included those who would be much more precious to the region than any other cargo. For these trainers were destined to take part in a struggle that would determine the fate of the entire region.
Pokemon trainers from across the world all coming here with the purpose of taking on the Pokemon League challenge and becoming the Champion that the region has been lacking for many long years.

Anneliese looked out at the city that approached. Her eyes were shining with excitement as she watched the city, much different than Sunnyshore City back home, came closer and closer. "My goodness Leopold, how do you think the ship knows when to stop without any eyes?" She asked the small, lion-cub-like, Shinx that was currently standing next to her and watching with great concern as she leaned over the edge of the railing with no regard to her own safety.
The Pokemon had no answer for her. He didn't have any more knowledge than she did about ships and he wouldn't be able to bring himself to correct her if he did.
This didn't stop the girl from continuing her dialogue with the small creature. "Oh look over there, that's Goldeen right? My goodness there's so many of them. Leopold do you see them right there?" She leaned over the edge to point out the Pokemon swimming along the side of the boat. In doing so she went too far and very nearly tumbled off the edge.
Only stopped by Leopold biting the bottom of her dress and pulling the girl backwards. She stumbled but managed to avoid falling as she looked down at Leopold. "Oh, what's wrong?" She asked, oblivious to how she had almost fell into the water. "Did you want something to eat?"
Leopold shook his head and wondered where the other humans that he had gathered to keep an eye on her were. He could do most of it himself but when Anneliese was this excited sometimes it could get...difficult. When the captain had informed them they would be required to set off in groups of three, for safety reasons, Leopold at first blanched at the idea of trusting strangers to accompany his trainer but he realized that it was something he'd have to accept. As long as they kept Anneliese safe and happy, of course.
      ---
As the ship docked everyone would be helped off of it by the crew. They were greeted by a tall middle-aged, man with mutton chops of such grandeur that they were nearly indistinguishable from a full beard. "Hello, and welcome...to Korova! I got word of your arrival and sallied forth to greet you! I am the dockmaster here, and I wish to be the first to welcome you all to my fair city, the jewel of this region, in my eyes at least, New Point Landing. I'm sure you'll find it accommodating to your needs...You may not even want to leave, gwahahahaha!"
"Oh what a delightful man!" Anneliese said as she smiled brightly at him. She wanted to stop and chat with the pleasant man some more but another part of her wished to hurry off to begin her adventure.
It was then she remembered that she had teammates with her and so she turned to the two of them with an even bigger smile, "So, where shall we start?"

And so it begins anew once again
The Korova Region. A more untamed region than most in the world; it was always a place of great interest to strong trainers. With its vast wilderness and general lack of contact with the other regions it was perfect for trainers to grow and learn about themselves. However in the recent years it has grown more restless. The Champion had vanished without a trace and a group of criminals, Team Phoenix, have become more active. The Pokemon League decided that they needed a new Champion to help bring peace of mind to the people of the region. Thus they sent out invitations far and wide to try and gather trainers, and bring them to the region free of charge, to take on their Pokemon League challenge.
You are one of a group who, for one reason or another, decided to come to this land for the great opportunity of becoming the region's new Champion. Some goals may differ but one thing is certain: the trainers who come to Korova are destined to change it forever.
