    On this day in history: in 2013, the largest tornado on record (2.6 miles at its widest point) touches down near El Reno, Oklahoma. Officially rated as an EF3, It stays on the ground for 40 minutes, and kills 8 people, including storm chaser Tim Samaras, of Team Twistex, the first chaser to deploy weather probes in the path of tornadoes.
