  1. Katsurou quietly watched from the front of the crowd as some of his fellow students walked up to the stage, introducing themselves one by one with varying levels of enthusiasm. He was surprised by how many Americans had travelled across the Pacific to have a chance to attend the academy. Unfortunately, it appeared that the rumours of American impropriety held true, especially for Kessandra, who appeared determined to make as many enemies as possible.

Katsurou then noticed that he was quickly falling behind the pack, with more students stepping forward to enter every minute. He certainly did not want to be the last to enter, lest he need to resort to highway robbery to ensure his own admittance. After the nervous Lesnar left the stage, Katsurou stepped forward and onto the stage.

“Good day my fellow students. I am Yamauchi Katsurou. I am glad to have the opportunity to apply alongside all of you. I pray that all of us will be able to give our best effort!” he said with the warmest smile he could muster through his nerves.

Turning to the warrior, he put out his hand, bracing for the weight of the badge that threw his fellow students off balanced. Despite being prepared, the heft of the badge caught him off guard, causing him to readjust his grip on the heavy object before depositing it in his messenger bag. With a smile, he gave a quick bow to the proctor and walked off past the gates towards the urban area.

Once a good distance away from the gate, Katsurou took a closer look at the badge. It was shaped as the logo of the academy and was extraordinarily dense, more dense than most metal objects that Katsurou handled before. With a deep breath, he closed his eyes and focused his abilities into the badge. Cracking open his eyes just a crack to see the effects, he was disappointed to see it hovering mere centimeters above his hand, wobbling weakly before dropping back into his hand.

“This is going to be much more difficult than I hoped” he muttered to himself with a sigh as he turned towards the city area.

The city area was mostly in ruins, with crushed cars and piles of rubble where apartment buildings may have been. Walking along road, avoiding large craters, Katsurou couldn’t shake the feeling that he was being watched. Instinctively, he took out his aluminum orb and made it orbit around him, ready to intercept anything that might come his way.

Suddenly, a bloodcurdling scream broke the eerie silence of the ruins, almost making Katsurou jump out of his skin and fling the orb in its direction, crashing into a brick wall. He pulled back his orb, causing the wall to collapse into more rubble and revealing another fallen building behind with a crushed car underneath it. The scream once again echoed through the city, with its source being from the car.

Katsurou leapt into action, dashing towards the rubble and the ruined car. The interior of the ruined car was cast in deep shadow, hiding the victim within. Without hesitation, he slammed his hands on the car door, his face wearing an expression of unyielding determination. The car door slowly began to bend backwards away from the car until it fell off its hinges with a dull thud.

“Sir! Are you ok? You’ll be-”

Katsurou, prepared to bring an injured man to the attention of the proctors, was stunned to find a crash test dummy wearing a cheap suit with a speaker sticking out of its head. On its right hand was another badge superglued to its palm. Katsurou froze in shock before letting out a hearty laugh, slowly removing the dummy from the car.

The dummy was quite heavy, only coming out of the car after a few minutes of struggling and metal manipulation. Once free, Katsurou put the dummy in a fireman carry, grunting with each step. While his uncle taught him some of the basics on being a hero, putting it into practice was another matter. Katsurou starting cursing his decision not to wear athletic clothing as his black dress shirt attracted the growing heat of the sun. Taking shelter of a nearby building, he gently put the dummy up against a wall and took a drink of the water bottle he had not forgotten to bring.

The sudden fall of rubble from the next building ended his reprieve. Katsurou readied his orb, prepared to defend his newly acquired badge, only to see a more friendly face. The boy was wearing a simple white T-shirt with a picture of a robed man throwing strange dice and was strangely underequipped, even lacking a badge.

“Oh, you must be...Denkara Taro, correct? You left before I could introduce myself. I am Yamauchi Katsurou, hopefully your search was not interrupted by a thief?”

I'm interested in applying again, but have some ideas for new characters. On one hand, I like the idea of a hero who models himself as a fusion of Samurai and Gunslinger, wielding such nightmares as a fusion katana-revolver in battle and speaking in a confusing mix of Japanese and American slang.

On the other hand, I want to play Dr. Kurokage as a mad scientist who uses dark science bordering on mysticism, summoning chaotic energies to give monstrous form to things around him and create giant familiars that fight for him.

Both ideas sound great! You can go ahead and make whichever you feel better with.

  3. Katsurou

Katsurou stopped at the threshold of the academy grounds, just short of the growing crowd of hopefuls like him, eager to justify their enrolment. Despite the great amount of assurance from his uncle that he would do just fine, he could not help but feel the phantom of doubt creep into his thoughts. Before joining the crowd, he muttered a quick prayer for strength and clarity of thoughts.

Clutching his trusty aluminum orb in his hands, Katsurou made his way to the center of the circle the crowd formed around the two officiants, one clad in the armor of ancient Japan, the other dressed in robes that only partially covered muscles that defied his apparent age. The elder looked as if someone had pulled one of the great patriarchs of Israel straight from Genesis and put him in charge of the test he was to take. Perhaps this was a sign that all would be well?

Following the proctors into the academy grounds, Katsurou could not help but wonder just how big this place was, containing an entire forest within its walls. He was quickly snapped back to this surroundings as the warlike instructor began to explain the situation. When told that everyone present had passed the written exam, Katsurou let out a sigh of relief, accompanied with a big smile. This smile did not last long when the rules of the practical exam were told. Collecting five badges and holding onto them until sundown did not sound difficult at first, but the attitude of his fellow students made him question what the instructors were planning.

“Stealing badges not causing an immediate disqualification? Why would they encourage new heroes to steal?” Katsurou muttered to himself, absentmindedly fiddling with the cord in his collar. Looking up to the crowd, Katsurou looked for anyone else who may be more likely to steal and anyone who would rather work together.

Clearly the amazon was out, being the first to ask if theft was allowed. Considering her brutish appearance, he reasoned that she would be the first to strike out on her own. The furtive student with the headphones appeared annoyed by the amazon, but perhaps only because of the competition. The bat-like girl, who had just let out a sonorous screech, may be reliable, or at least not outright malicious, as was the green-haired student and the towering student with strangle ripples along his arms.

The pink haired girl, apparently perturbed by the batgirl’s sudden screeching, leaned down to mutter something to her. Katsurou was not able to make out what was being said, but considering the reaction of those around her, it could not have been anything encouraging. His first instinct was to move to confront her for her rude imposition, but before he could, she had turned her focus back to preparing for the test. Katsurou decided that if he was to be a true hero, he would need to protect not just the helpless, but his fellow heroes as well.

“Excuse me! I hope that girl didn’t scare you. I’m sure she’s just as nervous as the rest of us,” he said cordially to batgirl before turning to the group that had assembled around her, “My name is Yamauchi Katsurou. It is nice to meet you all. I hope we can all pass!”

Currently not planning on going to Orlenya, but if what you're interested in is my sort of reinterpretation of traditional fantasy world building, there should be plenty.

Seems we got enough people now with Timeskipper and Reptilious also expressing interest on Discord.

I gotta get some basic details down along with the OOC before I get the Discord ready and open everything up for input and discussion.

I was more impressed by the worldbuilding you have done. If the other cities are of similar quality, color me very interested!

  5. If this is a total reboot and there's room for me, I'm noting interest.

    8599f400b0d8f554ce501064f6a0c3df82405568

    5'8", 142 lbs

    Personality:

    Spoiler

Katsurou is a jolly soul with an irrepressible spirit, always eager to help others in whatever way he can. Despite his harsh upbringing and his banishment, he is eternally grateful for what he believes is a second chance given to him by God, using his abilities to protect the innocent and banish greater evils. While Katsurou resents the cult that declared him an abomination, he still maintains much of his faith and practices regularly, much to the amusement or chagrin of everyone around him.

Katsurou, being without a modern education, tends to come off as an ignorant fundamentalist. A second look will reveal that he is surprisingly eager to learn, approaching his education with the fervour of a top student and keeping an open mind even if the subject greatly challenges his beliefs. However, his lack of worldly experience makes him naive and easily fooled by his fellow students, which he always tries to take in good humor.

When confronted with an evildoer, he will always attempt to talk them down, even in the most inappropriate of circumstances. An unrepentant idealist, he is always willing to give anyone a chance for redemption. However, when violence breaks out, he lashes out with lightning speed in an attempt to subdue the attacker before they can bring harm to others as well as themselves. Deadly force is something to be used as a last resort in Katsurou's eyes, only ever using it in the most dire of circumstances.

    Biography:

    Spoiler

Katsurou was born to a Fundamentalist Christian family who moved a small island off the northernmost shore of Hokkaido in an attempt to escape people born with Quirks. The particular sect of Christianity his family followed saw Quirks as the Mark of the Beast as written in the Book of Revelations, shunning modern society to prepare for the end times. Living in a small community of like-minded people, Katsurou lived a simple life full of prayer, free of any modern amenities or distractions.

Once a month, the community would send out a small group of people to gather the supplies that the village could not fish, weave or make. Katsurou was always eager to experience the modern delights of the nearby town and always volunteered to make these trips. It was in one of these trips to Wakkanai that he discovered his uncanny ability to move soda cans around in his mind. Upon discovering his abilities, he hid it from his family.

At first, he was afraid of his own power and prayed fervently for God to banish the demon that gave him his power. When solitary prayer failed to yield results, he eventually turned to the community for help. Katsurou endured many long and esoteric rituals performed by the community’s priest, each ending in complete failure. Out of ideas, the priest declared Katsurou a persona non grata and had him banished from the community. Despite his pleading, everyone in the community, even his own parents, callously turned their backs as he was sent to the mainland alone.

Katsurou wandered the streets of Wakkanai for almost a week until a kindly shopkeeper that noticed him sleeping in an alleyway and took him in. The shopkeeper managed to find and contact his uncle and fellow Quirk bearer, Hideyoshi Yamauchi, who lived away from the cult. Hideyoshi welcomed Katsurou with open arms to his own family, treating him as if he were his own son.

It was under the gentle tutelage of of his uncle where Katsurou learned to embrace his inborn abilities. It was a long and grueling process full of doubt and self hatred. At his lowest point, Katsurou had a vivid dream where he was visited by a blinding light, who told him that his Quirk was no mark of sin, but a gift from God to be used in service and good works in his name. Katsurou awoke from this dream with a renewed faith and sense of purpose, leading him to join the UA Academy to learn how to be a hero.

    Quirk:

    Spoiler

Flowing Metal: Katsurou has the ability to telekinetically move and shape metal to his will. Using this ability, Katsurou is able to lift metal into the air, shape it into objects of varying complexity, and form impromptu barriers. Katsurou is more likely to use his abilities defensively, but he has demonstrated being able to form metal shards and spears and use them to assail his foes with deadly efficiency.

The extent of his abilities depends on a combination of the density of the metal, his experience handling the metal, and his mental stamina. Generally speaking, the denser the metal, the more difficult it is for Katsurou to lift and shape it and the closer he must be to control it, with gold being almost completely inaccessible to Katsurou at his current level of ability. Using his ability constantly strains Katsurou, with over use leading to mental exhaustion and unconsciousness.

Katsurou is most proficient with controlling aluminum, so much so that he effortlessly carries a solid sphere of aluminum 30 cm in diameter wherever he goes. He can shape aluminum into objects as fine as a house key, control aluminum from up to 30 m away, and the metal flows like water when he is shaping it and using it in a fight, giving the name of his quirk. Katsurou is somewhat proficient with shaping iron and steel,  bending rear as if it were made of clay, but he finds it very strenuous to lift or shape it very far or fast. With most other metals, he can only lift small objects and cannot throw them hard enough to injure anyone.

    Miscellaneous:

    Spoiler
    • Theme
    • Katsurou has a tendency to avoid wearing a costume when performing heroic work, usually wearing his school uniform. This is intentional, as he feels wearing a costume would distance himself from the potential criminals he wants to reach out to.
    • He is a good Christian boy.

  6. Introduction:

    Spoiler

The following RP begins at the end of Season 1 of the One Punch Man anime. I am using information from the OPM wiki that may be spoilers for Season 2. If you are really concerned about this, please let me know.

Following the invasion of the Dark Matter Thieves and the subsequent destruction of A-City and the Hero Association Headquarters, the surrounding cities were flooded with citizens escaping the loss of their homes. Already under strain by string of attacks at the hand of many groups of Mysterious Beings, the cities were unable to accommodate the refugees.

As a result, all cities in the region experienced massive crime waves as refugees struggled to survive and criminals moved to take advantage of the situation. To make matters worse, with the destruction of their headquarters, the Hero Association was rendered blind and unable to coordinate heroes to stem the rising tide of crime. Without the coordination of HQ, the populace was left to fend for themselves, with most heroes only managing to respond to crime after the damage was done and the perpetrators already in hiding.

In an effort to protect their communities, citizens organized grassroots campaigns to coordinate their cities heroes. Neighbourhood watches became a constant sight in all cities, reporting criminal activities and Mysterious Beings wherever they appeared. In addition to neighbourhood watches, new heroes arose to meet the new demand. Neighbourhood watches “inducted” these new heroes without the approval of the Hero Association, giving them rankings based on their abilities.

The Hero Association was initially disavowed these new heroes. The Hero Association maintained a fine balance between the heroes, keeping the number of member heroes static to reduce the pressure of competition between heroes and keeping them fighting crime rather than each other. However, once news spread of the Hero Association's stance on the fledgling heroes, the public outcry was enormous. Both the mainstream media and social media railed against the Association, calling their efficacy into question and even suggesting their disbandment.

Caving to public pressure, the Hero Association provisionally expanded the size of the A, B, and C classes and coordinated with the city authorities to set up temporary testing areas for all the informal heroes wishing to make themselves official. Not all hometown heroes registered with the Association. Some were simply unable to pass the testing process, others abstained, pointing out the clear neglect the Association shows to non S-class heroes as proof of an inherently flawed system.

During this time, the popularity around the new breakout hero Saitama, also known as Caped Baldy, slowly grew among both citizens and heroes. While not formally recognized as S-Class by the Hero Association, many of the fans of Saitama believe that it was he, not the S-Class heroes, that defeated the leader of the Dark Matter Thieves and saved the region from total annihilation. An anonymous user and de facto leader of the fanbase, only known as bl0nd_b0rg, help inspire a small but growing group of heroes who choose the hero’s path not for fame or fortune, but for the pursuit of justice, cultivation of physical and spiritual strength, and most importantly, for the joy of it.

    Must Read for Players:

    Spoiler

You will be playing as a newly recruited hometown hero who recently joined the Hero Association. While you have your own reasons for joining the Association, you will also be inspired by Saitama’s simple philosophy to being a hero, leading you to avoid being a hero solely for fame and fortune and to band together with other like-minded heroes.

Your character can be of any class that is not S class, as S class characters are the ones that the show tends to focus on and I believe that including new S class heroes in the story would interfere too much with canon. I will be strongly preferring characters of B or C class, as I believe they would make for a more interesting story, as the show already showcases many A and S class heroes.

This RP will be divided into short arcs revolving around a monster or a villain of the week. The characters will be summoned to fight an appropriate threat. When the threat is resolved, there will be some time in between for characters to interact and to deal with the rewards (and consequences) of their actions while dealing with their threat.

    Key Information:

    Spoiler

    The Hero Classification System:

    Spoiler

Member heroes of the Hero Associations are ranked initially based on their abilities as rated by a testing process and later by a combination of their popularity and their accomplishments. Heroes who defeat powerful threats rise through the ranks faster. Salaries, restrictions, responsibilities and mission assignments are all based on a heroes rank. Each rank has a set number of heroes that can be a part of the class. Those who become rank 1 of their class become eligible for promotion to the next class up. However, promotion through the ranks is rare since those holding rank 1 of their class tend to become gatekeepers, stopping anyone below them from climbing to the next rank.

S-class: Members of the S-class are among the strongest of all known heros, each one being as powerful as an entire military division. As such, S-class is the smallest of all classes, including only 17 heros. The Hero Association did not increase the size of this class.

A-class: Members of the A-class are not as powerful as those in S-class, but are still among the most powerful heroes and are also among the most popular of all heroes. As a part of being ranked in A-class, heroes in this class must take part in a mentorship program for newly recruited heroes. The current holder of rank 1 of A-class is Sweet Mask, who has acted as a gatekeeper to S-class, keeping anyone he considers “unworthy” from ascending to S-class. Going against the advice of Sweet Mask, the Hero Association has provisionally increased the size of A-class from 38 to 43 members.

B-class: Members of B-class are not required to meet the weekly quotas of C-class heroes, giving them a lot more freedom in choosing their missions. The current holder of rank 1 of B-class is Fubuki, Blizzard of Hell, who is infamous for the “newbie crushing” activities that some heroes do to maintain their positions. The size of B-class was increased by the Association from 101 heroes to 150 heroes, having the largest increase of all classes.

C-class: Members of C-class are the weakest among the Association, but are often much stronger than the average person. Most heros are placed in this class when they first join, unless they score high enough during the testing process. Due to the number of powerful hometown heros, a great deal of new heroes have skipped this class and went straight to B-class. C-class heroes are required to perform weekly heroic acts to justify their membership to the Association. Those who do not make the quota are removed from the Hero Registry. The current holder of rank 1 in C-class is Mumen Rider, a hero well known for his unwavering pursuit of justice and community outreach. The size of C-class increased slightly, from 390 to 400. The turnover in C-class is high and heroes rise and fall quickly in the rankings.

Unregistered: Not an official rank, used to denote active heroes who are not in the Hero Registry. Heroes who do not join the Hero Association are considered “weirdos” and are not given any credit or media attention for their heroic deeds.

    Disaster Level System:

    Spoiler

The Hero Association rates threats that they identify on a scale based on their threat to the people, the cities and the world.

Wolf: A threat rated Wolf is something that could possibly pose a threat to multiple people. Most threats that are identified are rated Wolf and escalated if later reports indicate a larger threat. The average Wolf threat requires 3 C-class heroes or 1 B-class hero to be defeated.

Tiger: A threat rated Tiger is something that endangers the lives of a great number of people. The average Tiger threat requires 5 B-class heroes or 1 A-class hero to be defeated.

Demon: A threat rated Demon is something that threatens an entire city and its infrastructure. An average Demon threat requires 10 A-class heroes or 1 S-class hero to be defeated.

Dragon: A threat rated Dragon is something endangers multiple cities.

God: A God rated threat is something that endangers the survival of all humanity.
