Mecha Phantom Beast support [written]

Recommended Posts

Ever since MR4 came out I've hoped that Konami would finally throw MPB a bone due to their gimmick of summoning tokens synergizing extremely well with Link summoning in general, however it's simply not happened as of late.  Since MPB have always been a longtime favorite, I decided to whip up a handful of cards that specifically address the core issues of MPB.  MPB have some very intricate and at times very explosive combos, but the problem is setting up these combos can take 1 full turn or more, and they don't have consistent ways of getting the starters they need to pop off.  These issues of setup speed and consistency are what I want to address, while also limiting just how explosive they are so as to not let it spiral out of control like many a card has done as of late.

Mecha Phantom Beast Chinpanzee

Link 2 WIND Machine-Type

1500 ATK | BL BR arrows

2 Machine-Type monsters, including a Token

You can only use each effect of "Mecha Phantom Beast Chinpanzee" once per turn.  If this card is Link Summoned: You can Special Summon "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" (Machine/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0) up to the number of materials used for this card's Summon to Zones this card points to.  You cannot use those Tokens, nor this card as Link Material if you activate this effect, except for the Link summon of a "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster (this effect cannot be negated).  Tokens you control are unaffected by your opponent's card effects.  You can Tribute 1 Machine-Type monster this card points to; Special Summon from your Deck 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster whose Level is either 1 higher or 1 lower than the Tributed monster's.  You can only Special Summon "Mecha Phantom Beast Chinpanzee" once per turn.

(This card's name combines Chimpanzee with the Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter)

Mecha Phantom Beast Minotaur

Level 5 WIND

Machine / Synchro / Tuner

1000 / 1800

1 Tuner + 1 non-Tuner Token

You can only use each effect of "Mecha Phantom Beast Minotaur" once per turn.  If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can add 1 Spell or Trap Card that lists "Mecha Phantom Beast" in its card text from your Deck to your hand.  If this card is sent to the Graveyard for the Synchro Summon of a Machine-Type monster, you can draw 1 card.  You can banish this card from your Graveyard; Synchro Summon 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck by banishing Machine-Type monsters from your Graveyard whose total Level is exactly equal to that monster's (including this card).

(This card gets its name from the Minotaur series of space rockets, which I think is fitting for a Synchro Tuner)

Fortified Resupply Point

Field Spell

When this card is activated: You can add 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster from your Deck to your hand.  Once per turn, if you Summon a non-Token "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster: You can Special Summon 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast Token" (Machine/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0).  Once per turn, you can Tribute 1 Token: Special Summon one of your banished "Mecha Phantom Beast" monsters.  You can only activate 1 "Fortified Resupply Point" per turn.

These cards were mainly designed to combo together with each other in order to set up your plays while also extending them.  This takes away dependence on opening up with extremely specific hands while putting more focus on 2-3 card BnB combos that can be improvised with various combinations of starters.  For instance, with Tetherwolf and Harrliard in your hand, you could do:

  1. NS Tether
  2. SS Token
  3. Link into Chinpanzee
  4. SS 2 Tokens
  5. Tribute 1 for O-lion
  6. Synchro for Minotaur
  7. SS O-lion token
  8. Search Resupply
  9. Activate Resupply, search Megaraptor
  10. banish O-lion, NS Harriard
  11. SS Token from Resupply
  12. Harrliard -> tribute token -> SS raptor
  13. Raptor tribute token for search
  14. Harrliard SS another token
  15. etc.

While that is very explosive considering the minimal investment, it locks Chinpanzee into the EMZ to prevent Link spam unless you first go into some unnamed MPB link monster that would likely also be made (probably a boss monster).  This limits to what end the combo would reach, since most "boss monsters" MPB can currently make aren't very threatening in today's day and age, with an exception for True King and to an extent Superior Dora.  What do you guys think?
