  1. Madison Yamane

Madison sat as St. Peter dug into all of them. Sure, it was likely a larger scale problem... but it still felt very, very personal to the girl.

    Then he dropped the bombshell.

"From here on out, Class 2 Soulders shall be assigned a team of 5, and are to meet a quota of recruiting 1 Lost Soul per week. Now, before I have to do it myself, I suggest you find some people you like and make a team yourself. After reporting to me, I'll assign you your first mission by the end of the day. DISMISSED!"

Madison's face went blank as she processed the announcement and her feelings about it. On one hand, working on teams was a nice change of pace from normal operations, and having a support network on the job would help with any unwanted... outbursts. On the other hand, as much as it pained her heart to admit it... she didn't trust herself around anyone else. Sh-her soulverdrive, she corrected herself, was a primal power that no one, not even herself, could fully control. She felt like she'd just be a danger to those around her, a bomb with a short fuse destined to blow up everyone she held dear.

"We got five here...instead of lollygaggin' around with us tryin' to find a team of five, just have us here be the team of five and cut yer losses. Just thinkin' it could be a lot easier that way. But I'm just speakin' out loud and most likely out of turn and order, but I'm just bein' honest."

Virgil's voice drew Madison out of her thoughts like a riptide. While she knew some of the other soulders here, most of them were relatively new to her. While normally that would be a bad thing for a team... it would likely mean that they would be quicker to put her down if anything went wrong.  So of course...

    "Sounds like a plan..."

After Letty introduced herself to the group, Madison swallowed her courage and took the floor.

"H-hi. I'm Madison, though some of you already know that. Uh... my soulverdrive..." She struggled on how to explain her nature to the group, but after a few seconds blurted out "My soulverdrive turns me into Godzilla and I... well to be honest I can barely control it." She let out a massive sigh as sweat rolled down her forehead. She felt her nails start to dig into her hands. "So if you see me start growing scales randomly for no reason uh.... I might need a hug?", her cheeks turning red from the embarrassing finish as a tiny bit of stage fright caused herself to shift ever so slightly, some one-off scales darkening.

  2. Sammy

Sammy was looking at the menus when Aoki tracked her down and loudly greeted "Heyyyy!  Sammy!" Sammy quickly closed out of the menus and turned towards Aoki.

"Let's travel together!  Us Brawlers gotta stick together, amiright?!"

"Oh, course I would! Lemme do this real quick...."

She pulled up the menu and quickly partied up  with Aoki and friended the boy, all the while Sequoia was chomping on the bits waiting for further orders.

"Should all be set now."  Sammy's voice stopped for a moment before she looked down at Aoki. A soft, melancholic undertone weaved through her speech as she said. "...thank you so much. It means a lot."

Sammy took the chance to take some deep breaths in order to keep those painful memories from flooding her mind again. Soon that slight twange of anxiety faded and she was once more ready to face the world.

  3. Skelly

Skelly meandered throughout the town of Sandy Grove, seemingly searching for someone in the chaos. Eventually, she finds who she's looking for: the armored warrior Alliyma, who was found stomping toward her large, rover-like D-rig. Two gaping holes have been pried in the rig's hull where two summon cores used to be.

Skelly slowly walked over to the warrior and gently said, “Hey…”

Alliyma slammed her fist on a button at the bottom of the cockpit, the glass enclosure rising with the sound of pneumatics to allow access to the driver's seat. "What."

“…it looks like we’re stuck here for a bit”

"A few minutes. Then we kill the asshole responsible and I'm on my way."

“…I say we don’t kill him. Could just disable their cores and leave 'em to the desert to die."

"Don't be stupid. We are in no position to dish out petty karmic justice when so many lives are at stake." Pulling herself up into her D-Rig, she pressed a button within, the canopy slowly closing, "I recommend you get your rig in that 'Behemoth' soon, or you'll be left behind. I have a little bird to check on."

Skelly walked over to the Frankenstein's Lab... and immediately saw the hood opened and the Synchro Core that had one sat there gone. She opened the door to the interior of the cabin... and saw her stuff rummaged through. For a minute, she panicked... but luckily nothing was stolen.

With nothing left to do, Skelly drove to the behemoth, turned her duel rig off, and took out her deck. She took out one card in particular, a purple-bordered card with a chimeric wolf roaring as the art.

"Hopefully this goes well, Indy. Hopefully it goes well..."

  4. Skelly

It had been a late night for Skelly. Any art form can be quite the endeavor, but Skelly's taxidermy creations required multiple full days of planning, sculpting, and carefully treating animal parts before even beginning final assembly. But, finally, her latest creation, a small recreation of one of the desert's sand otters in a half-dead state, was almost complete. All that was left was the eyes. Skelly turned to the small cabinet in Frankenstein's Lab with the glass eyes and began sorting through... but found she was out of the one type she needed. I did not expect running out so quickly she thought. She looked to her other supplies, finding that they were running out too. Looks like it's about time to head to Sandy Grove again.

Skelly's ancient looking RV, which looks like it has seen better days, slowly pulls into the town of Sandy Grove. Skelly herself was covered head to toe in cloth, goggle, mask, and bandage, having come down these roads many times before. It pays for someone something like her to be careful. As Skelly drives up, however, she notices a giant D-Rig sitting on the road. She gets out to examine it, removing her goggles to allow her glassy, blackened eyes to look closely at the rig to see if she could make out anything. No luck. The woman sighed and got back in her D-Rig, and drove up to town.

Skelly walked into Sandy Groove, keeping her usual distance and getting the usual side-eyed glances from people, of course. Some of them knew her, some of them didn't. She took out her usual case of mostly-covered corpse-sculptures from the back of her RV, taking a minute to look at the sideboards, which were a mix of rotten wood and bone.

However, despite her mostly keeping her eyes in the depths of shadow, someone noticed Skelly's unusual features.

It was over in an instant, Skelly being grappled by a hand grabbing the cloth of her shirt and an ornate blade of obsidian being held to her neck. A female voice hissed from behind her "Your eyes. How'd that happen?"

A deep, primal fear coursed through Skelly's icy-cold veins, but she wouldn't let it show. Not with this much on the line.  "...dead men tell no tales, do they not?" she whispered in a steady, almost robotic voice.

    "Elaborate."

"...how about we go somewhere a little more private and handle this like civilized people?" Skelly growled, her voice dripping with artificial venom and manufactured outrage.

"No." The woman pressed the blade lightly to Skelly's throat, the cut oozing dark ichor in place of blood. "Something about you is wrong, and you are going to tell me why. Now."

"You think that threatening me wants to make me tell you anything? Cute. What about your own... secret, that giant machine?" It was a bluff, of course. Skelly didn't know if this woman was connected at all to the giant duel rig out side town... but in these wastelands, every bit of leverage counts.

    "The what?"

The bluff failed, as Skelly knew it likely would. "Ah, so that isn't yours then. Fine, as long as you let go of me, I can explain."

The intimidatingly armored woman released Skelly, pushing her forward and away a few feet, "Don't try anything, or you'll start losing limbs. These feathers were dyed with blood, but I wouldn't mind turning a few of them black with whatever fills your veins."

Skelly beckoned the woman to follow her as she walked off, and the woman followed, keeping just a far enough distance away to always be within arms reach. Soon enough the two found themselves out of earshot of town. Skelly turns to the stranger, and does the one thing she hates most... she takes off her hood and mask, revealing her pale, dead face for the world, her face lined with darkened veins and old wounds never quite healed.

The other woman startled back slightly, seemingly caught of guard by this. "How."

Skelly didn't answer, her body held still as if a corpse held upright. With a grunt of fear and rage, the woman dashed forward, blitzing the immobile Skelly and pinning her limp against the wall, the blade once again at her throat, "I get it, you're dead, whatever. What. Brought. You. Back."

Skelly's body limped against the wall as she frantically thought of what to say. She's been wondering that question for years, about who she is and why she was brought back and how she was brought back and where she came from and-

"Last chance!" the woman screamed as she bashed Skelly's skull against the wall by her short hair. "What is the last thing you remember before dying??"

"I wish I knew. Why are you so angry?"

The woman's brow furrowed in confusion, Skelly's simple statement seemingly piercing deep. "You don't remember?"

"Not at all, asides from my name."

    "Which is?"

"Mary Walker. Please, call me Skelly, and I apologize for my curtness"

The woman stared into Skelly's eyes for several long seconds, her rage piercing all the way through, before abruptly backing off, the ferocity dissolving as she resheathed her weapon. With a half-smirk, she extended as hand forward, "Pleasure to meet you, Mary. Alliyma."

Skelly cautiously shook Alliyma's hand. "Please, pardon my appearance... and the smell... and..."

"Trust me, I was prepared for worse. Now if you'll excuse me, I have business to attend to." Sprinting to the side, Alliyma jumped up off of a half-ruined metal container, catching the top of the wall with her fingertips and pulling herself up, quickly disappearing among the rooftops.

Skelly nods as she heads off before putting on her hood, goggles, and mask, and heads back to town to trade some of her taxidermy creations. Soon she makes it to her favorite glassblower, a young lad completely enthralled with his craft, and exchanged one of her smaller taxidermy insects for a renewed supply of eyes. Soon however, she began scanning the rooftops for Alliyma again.

  5. Remnant of the Wasteland

    Spoiler

”I should be dead, but I’m not. Why is that?”

    Name: Mary "Skelly" Walker

    Age: 5

    Text Color: #cccc9b

    Appearance:

    Spoiler

    download20220200184644.png

At first glance, Skelly appears to be a decently tall (5'7") but otherwise fairly normal woman almost completely covered in clothing, bandages, and survival wear reeking of formaldehyde and other preservatives. But upon closer examination, Skelly’s pale grayish skin, blackened veins, dark sclera, and cold body reveals that she is anything but. Underneath her hoods, jackets, and assorted wrappings, Skelly resembles a corpse in early stages of decay, with some sort of device embedded into her chest that glows with the same sickly yellow as her eyes.

    Personality:

    Spoiler

Mary Walker is generally the silent, stoic type, having an eerie stillness to her that can unnerve almost anyone she comes across. Most people who look into her prying eyes assume she’s a vengeful revenant seeking revenge, traveling across the wasteland stalking her killer(s). Depending on which rumor you’ve heard, she’s either a cold-blooded killer hunting down those who took her down or a gruff but virtuous soul seeking to execute her murderers in the name of justice. But the tales always end the same: those who mess with Mary Walker never live to tell the tale.

But no matter the telling, these folk tales of vengeful ghosts and risen dead always misunderstand Skelly. Far from being a living embodiment of revenge, Skelly is instead a curious and surprising compassionate person despite, or perhaps because, the unusual circumstances regarding her existence. As still as she might seem on the surface, Skelly is always thinking, observing, calculating, and planning. Skelly’s quite grim hobby of taxidermy is an extension of her natural curiosity in the living and the dead, as are her dabblings in other forms of investigation. For all of the mystique surrounding her, Skelly would make a fantastic detective herself, able to pick up on slight details others miss about others… or the biggest mystery she has yet to solve, herself. A lot of Skelly’s drive to learn more is due to her amnesia and the desire to know herself.

    Biography:

    Spoiler

Five years ago, in the depths of the marshes of Florida, a female corpse laid in the mud. When, how, and why she died isn’t very clear, but her body hadn’t been touched by the ravages of decay much, despite her body being there for years. A strange metal structure sits in the center of her chest, seemingly dormant.

However, suddenly, her body starts twitching slightly, her dead muscles moving for the first time in years, possibly even decades. Soon, her chest begins to pump up and down in the rhythmic motion of breath, with the muscle twitches becoming more and more intense.
And then, the dead woman opens her now black eyes, and rises from the grave once more.

Mary Walker had no memories of who she was before her first “death” besides her name, but her mind screamed to her to start looking for clues. For shelter. She soon saw an abandoned RV in an equally sorry shape, with some additional pieces of scrap metal and bone nearby. And with these salvaged materials, Skelly began repairing what would be her D-Rig, Frankenstein’s Lab. After two weeks of tireless work, the RV was repaired… and Skelly began to travel.

Skelly spent most of the following 5 years on the road. The survivors of America weren’t the most welcoming to the living dead, so Skelly spent as little time as possible in settlements, keeping herself nearly totally covered at almost all times to avoid conflict. But her odd mannerisms and dead flesh rose to the status of near legend, with rumors about her being spread from settlement to settlement.

Now, Skelly finds herself on the opposite coast, finally finding a barrier she can’t drive past. For now, she keeps to herself, practicing taxidermy as a way to pass the time.

    D-Rig Description:

    Spoiler

    Frankenstein’s Lab

Frankenstein’s Lab is Skelly’s D-Rig, a massive chimera of a RV that is as much a relic as its owner. The Lab’s current state is almost unrecognizable compared to the wreck it was when Skelly first found it, and due to constant tune-ups, repairs, and improvements it’s appearance is always slightly shifting. Skelly uses her D-Rig as a place to sleep and relax, and upgrades such as powered cooling and an integrated desk are personalized towards her pension to taxidermy. The RV is powered by a Synchro summon core, but Skelly is able to perform fusion summons with the Fusion core in her abdominal cavity.

  6. Sammy

"EMERGENCY MISSION: DEFEAT KUWAGAMON AND HIS ARMY.....

    MISSION SUCCESS!  CONGRATULATION TAMERS!

    BITS earned: 1000

    EXP Earned: 100"

The message of victory came across Sammy's screen just as the last bit of the Flygon melted back into the air. "We did it kid! How does it feel to win a real fight?" Sequoia asked, his roots looking quite worn from the battle.

"Honestly, I just feel relieved we're alright right now. But good job there Sequoia!"

Sammy crouched over and offered Sequoia a fist bump, which he quickly accepted. The two of them just stared at each other for a few minutes, just kind of taking in their victory over overwhelming odds.

Then Sammy noticed their company was missing.

"Hey Sequoia, did you see where that kid and his digimon went?"

    "Which one?"

"The devil-looking one. Weren't they just standing over there?"

"Maybe they couldn't handle our brutal efficiency. I don't know."

Sammy just kind of stood there, the utter ruthlessness of her attack against Flygon only now hitting her. "Oh god..." she muttered to herself. "I'm a mon-"

"Hey kid, you 'aight?" Sequoia asked his tall friend. "You seem a little out of it."

Sammy crutched her face in her hands as she starts to cry. "...I regret everything I regret everything!"

Sequoia looked down towards the ground. "...look, kid, it's fine. If you feel like you went too hard well... there's always next time. And that Flygon did nearly kill us..."

Sammy nodded. "Yeah, I guess you're right... might as well check up on everyone else."

  7. Madison Yamane

In the depths, an ancient beast began to stir. As it awakened from its slumber, the beast opened its maw, letting out a silent roar. It rose to the surface of the water, getting closer and closer until-

    BEEEEEP! BEEEEEP! BEEEEEP!

Madison slapped her alarm clock with her dripping wet arm before dragging her body out of the water. Madison stretched and yawned as her tail retreaded back to its normal stubby state and her head retreated down to its normal height five feet from the ground. Moving over to her bathroom, Madison lazily grabbed her toothbrush and began to brush her sharpened teeth.

Madison got somewhat dressed, putting on a pair of board shorts, a t-shirt, and a jacket. She sat down at her desk, not really sure what to do at the moment. She picked up one of the assorted pieces of paper scattered on there, a note from the Celestial Bureaucracy thanking her for her services. Services? she thought to herself. I would have paid to watch over Aômikô! Love that dragon kid so much...

"Attention all available S.Y.S. Soulders of Class 2 and higher!  Please assemble in the main conference room on floor 99.  We will be having a mandatory emergency meeting in the next 30 minutes."

Madison snapped out of her thoughts, exclaiming Crap, I'm gonna be late! She grabbed her stuff and bolted down the hall, her legs extending and growing black scales as the deadline became more important in her mind than keeping her Soulverdrive completely in check.

Ever so slightly late, Madison leaped into the conference room and into a chair, accidentally knocking over a drink. Sorry I'm la-Oh gods! I'm so sorry about the drink. As she slipped back to normal, Madison grabbed a paper towel from her bag and started to desperately clean up the drink. I'm so sorry about that!

  8. Monster Queen

    Spoiler

    Name: Madison Yamane

    Age of Death/Apparent Age: 19 (Appears 17)

    Gender: Female

    Appearance:

    Spoiler

Madison typically appears as a fairly normal (albeit short standing at only 5'2" tall) girl. While in life it was deathly pale, as a spirit Madison's skin has taken its natural tan tone. Madison's hair is brown, with it darkening towards the tips. Madison’s skin is flecked with little patches of slightly darker scales, one of the passive manifestations of her soulverdrive. The others are a short, stumpy tail which is normally hidden by her clothing and her sharpened teeth. In her normal form, Madison weighs 108 lbs.

When Madison transforms partially, in addition to increasing in height, her physique also becomes more muscular and curvier, looking more like an olympic athlete than her normal thin physique. In addition to this change to a bulkier body type, Madison also undergoes several other changes. First and most obvious as she starts to transform, her tail vastly enlarges in size, going from a small stump to a long, black-scaled tail like that of her full kaiju form. Second, as her transformation progresses, her hair grows darker and darker, with most of it fading to a dark black with some blue highlights. Madison's weight increases drastically as she transforms due to the increase in muscle mass and overall size. Madison typically hovers around 9' 4" and 450 lb in her transformed form, but this is extremely variable.

Madison typically wears a denim jacket overlaying various nerdy t-shirts and various pairs of shorts.

    Personality:

    Spoiler

In life, Madison's natural enthusiasm and curiosity was heavily dampened by illness. In death, however, her energy knows no bounds. Madison is extremely friendly and compassionate, forming strong emotional bonds with almost everyone. Madison wears her heart on her sleeve, and her emotions tend to flare brightly. Even after a life of struggling, Madison is still very upbeat and cheery, her optimism being almost infectious.

In addition to being a ray of sunshine in the afterlife, Madison is also a massive nerd. Her curiosity is almost insatiable, and she's interested in everything from paleontology to Jojo's Bizzare Adventure. Maddie often uses things she's interested in to connect to people as she can have some issues otherwise.

Madsion's most notable character trait is her sheer determination and will. No matter what she does, she'll put her all into it, and she won't stop no matter what. She personally thinks this determination is what lead to her soulverdrive developing in such an unorthodox way.

    Biography:

    Spoiler

    From Madison Yamane's entrance interview

"Ever since I was born, I was a sick kid. I never learned what quite was wrong with me, but I was always coming down with illness after illness. I even had my own room at the hospital for a while! It was hard missing school so much, but I tried to make the best of life. I had bright dreams for the future, setting my sites on college and such... but one day I got sick and never recovered. I fought for my life every day for those two last years, at least mentally if not physically. But, I couldn't defy fate forever. I died there, surrounded by my family and the medical staff who had kept me alive for so long. It was bittersweet in a way. I couldn't really say goodbye, but at least my family did. My body seemed to welcome death with open arms

...but my soul? My soul kept fighting. It raged against the unfairness of the world, against how my life and future was snuffed out like that, against the fight it could not win. It grew claws and tails, teeth and scales... and went on a rampage. I don't have any memories from that. All I remember is that I woke up after you captured my other form and that I felt this primal... power inside me, waiting to break out. I'm sorry for all of the damage, by the way. If this is the least I could do to make up for it... I'll take it."

    Soulverdrive:

    Spoiler

    Soulverdrive--NUCLEAR SOUL

At her surface, Madison seems to be just a normal human, save for a few scales and a stumpy tail. But under the skin of a normal girl lies a spirit who deep down never felt strong enough as a bed-ridden patient. But as a nuclear-powered dinosaur? Now we're talking.

Nuclear Soul allows Madison to become a amphibious, dinosaurian kaiju with the heart of a dying star, which Maddie refers to as "Gojira" for being nearly identical to the character in question. While Madison's Gojira form is not any particular iteration of the kaiju character, it wouldn't look too out of place in a line-up of them. This massive kaiju form stands at around 30 ft tall and is armed with teeth, claws, a paddle-like tail, and the ability to let loose barrages of nuclear beams from her maw.

Of course, Madison doesn't always (or even most of the time) want to transform into her full kaiju form, bad memories and all that. Luckily, she can shift partially into her kaiju form, gaining some additional mass and abilities while remaining at least humanoid. Madison can choose how much she transforms from her base state... at least, when she has the willpower to resist the call.

Nuclear Soul's main weakness is not that it gets weaker as Madison's will fades. Instead, Madison looses control of her powers, and strong emotion can cause her to shift unintentionally.

    Miscellaneous:

    Spoiler

  9. Sammy

As the Flymon flew towards her, Sammy froze, suddenly feeling the eyes of all of her new friends on her. All the pressure. However, just as Sammy was about to be it, her plant friend jumped on to her, knocking them both down.

"Thanks for the save, bud..." Sammy said.

"Nah, it was nothing kid. Now... isn't there a usurper to deal with?"

Sammy stood up and grabbed Sequoia. "Oh, now we're talking"

With a slam!, Flymon was grounded once again, but now with an angry plant biting its face off and a very tall girl hammering it. Occasionally, Sammy looked up and gave the kid next to her a grin and a thumbs up.

  10. Sammy

Sammy and Sequoia recoiled back as the Flymon's stinger blasted the ground away. The giant insectoid digimon raised its abdomen again and launched another missile-stinger at Sequoia. In a flash of light, the stinger exploded and Sequoia was gone. The oversized fly laughed as Sammy screamed for her plant companion. "HA HA! So much for that pla-" Mid-boast, vines wrapped around the Flymon as Sequoia emerged from the earth. "Think I can't dodge, punk!" He summoned all of his strength and slammed the insect into the earth. "You mess with me, you get poison ivy. YOU GOT IT NOW?" The Flymon, now paralyzed on the ground barely stuttered out a "ye.. yes..." before Sammy began to wail on it. "Take THIS!" Sammy began to just kick at the Flymon, denting its arthropoid shell bit by bit. Leaves began to fly around Sammy's fists as she continued to hammer at the bug while Sequoia continued his onslaught.

  11. Sammy

Sammy followed Aoki over the bridge into the wide, verdant plains of Central Park. The tall girl looked around, seeing a horde of yellow, caterpillar-like digimon attacking a mass of other players. Sequoia looked to the hoard, a feral grin crossing his seed-face.

"Yo Sammy, why don't we help thin out the pests before we shove off into the forest?""

Sammy looked out to the horde. "Well, we don't have much of a choice, don't we?"

Aoki got into a battle-ready stance, smiled at Sammy, and said,  "You haven't been in a fight yet, so show me what you got!".

Sammy readied herself and winked at Aoki before Sequoia jumped out from behind her. "Come at me you spineless cowards!"

Soon, one of the lightning-scarred larvae rolled straight up to Sammy, and Aoki was giving her words of encouragement, saying "Yo, Sammy!  You got this!  These guys are easy!"  Sammy arced her leg back right as the caterpillar was about to slam into her before kicking it, causing it to fly quite high in the air before slamming back in the ground. Sammy began to scan the digimon... before Sequoia slammed into it, his thorns dealing the final blow. "Huh, so these guys are called Kunemon?" "Those hotheads think they run the place." Sequoia turned to face Sammy "You really put that one in its place. Keep it up, will ya kid?"

Suddenly, she heard Aoki yell "Ah damni-"

Quickly turning around, she saw Aoki wrapped in electric webbing as two of the Kunemon, now right next to Aoki, chuckled manically. "You didn't think we wouldn't gang up on you Humans, now do you?  Kekekeke!" Then, Sammy was flung around, electricity coursing through her veins. Another larvae slowly began to crawl over before swiping at the ground and curling up. "Look's like your time is up, human. KEKEKEKEKEKE!" Stressed clouded Sammy's mind. ...I'm sorry Aoki, I'm not strong enough... she thought to herself, her mind slowly fading into the dark...

...but she refused to stop. Slowly standing up, digital leaves flitting around her, digital thread snapping, Sammy loomed over the caterpillar, her blank face staring straight at the creature's data. The Kunemon was startled by this development, falling back... right as Sammy wordlessly pulled out her digivice and pointed it at Sequoia, the screen drastically brightening along with the seed-like digimon. "Heh, finally. Budmon digivolve into..." Sequoia's seed-like body dissolved before colliding with the ground, glowing flowers and vines erupting before uprooting themselves to reveal a humanoid form beneath. The light burst, revealing... "PALMON, YOU SPINELESS ASS!" The Kunemon looked UP to the now towering Sequoia, who went to all fours and POUNCED onto the Kunemon, leaf-like data flying everywhere. This gory display led Sammy to snap out of her menacing pose. "Sequoia, stop! That was..." "Deserved it. You mess with my forest and you pay for it" As Sammy thought about the meaning of that comment Sequoia turned, seeing that Reef, Aoki's companion, had also digivolved himself. When Sequoia's attention was elsewhere, Sammy spotted the boy who Aoki had yelled at earlier... and a glimmer of recognition hit her eye. AllUrBase seemed like a familiar username...

After Elton had finished battling some Kunemon, he noticed a shadow growing over him.

  12. Sammy

Sammy and Sequoia were rushing towards the bridge out of Asuka City when Sammy heard someone say, "Round 2!"  Sammy turned to the side to see wh-

    SLAM!

Sammy was knocked to the ground prone and Sequoia was sent flying. As Sammy sat up, she saw who had collided with her: a decently tall boy with blue hair holding is partner digimon, a Pukamon

"Hey!  Let's watch where we're goin' alright!"

    "Mmmm...rough waters...."

"You got that rig-" Sammy watched as the boy’s eyes grew wide upon internalizing her actual size. Sammy’s body stiffened.

"WHAT THE HELL!  YOU'RE WAY TOO TALL!  IS THERE AN OPTION FOR THAT IN THE MENU OR WHAT!?"

Sammy was mentally preparing herself to respond when Sequoia leaped out from behind her, his ire clearly drawn by the boy’s comment. “Hey, watch it! Her height is something she’s sensitive about!” As Sequoia gets madder and madder, Sammy tries to signal him to quiet down to no avail.

“Sequoia, please?” Sammy finally blurted out, and the seed stopped its verbal assault with “alright then.” She sat up, her height clearly on display. “Sorry about my friend Sequoia there. He can be a bit overprotective at times…”

"I can see that..."  the boy said, rubbing the back of his neck.  "Sorry for blowing up on ya.  It's an old habit of mine..."  The boy crossed his legs, putting his digimon in the small gap that formed.  "Just had a rough experience...kinda died, kinda came back to life."

“I get the feeling…” Sammy sat there awkwardly for a second before standing upright and extending an arm down to the boy. He took her hand, and stood up with her support.

"The name's Aoki.  Aoki Hideyo!  What's your name?"

“I’m Sammy! Nice to meet you!” Sammy’s nervousness faded away and a large grin crossed her face.

"Likewise!  Sorry for blurting it out earlier, but you’re really tall!  What are you doin' in DWO?"

Sammy stretched out her shoulders a bit, reaching her arms around her neck. “Honestly, at the moment, all I want to do is walk around! The landscapes are breathtaking…” Sequoia’s quiet chants “fight fight fight” could be heard in the background.

"Yeah, they are!  You think you'd only see this stuff in an anime or something, right?!  Pretty rad!"  Aoki then flashed her a smile, and pointed a thumb to his chest.  "Im here to kick ass, and become the number one tamer alongside my pal Reef here!"  Aoki said, petting the top of his partners head, who began to groggily open his eyes.

Sammy smiled. “Mind if I tag along? Sequoia’s been itching for combat ever since I got ‘em” Sequoia flashes a wide grin and fidgets in excitement.

"Hell yeah!  I'm a brawler, so I'm gonna help these two out!"  Aoki said, pumping a fist

Sammy pumps her fist. “Well, I may not know how to fight, but I am strong… let’s go!”

"Now that we're a team, I think we have enough grit to beat that guy!  Wanna come with?"

Before Sammy could respond, Sequoia jumped forward. “I’ll take any chance to stop being a seed for once!” Sammy let out a hearty chuckle  and gave a thumbs up, and with that, the four of them walked back to Central Park

  13. Sammy

It was a cold, overcast afternoon in the Japantown neighborhood in San Francisco. Despite the inclement weather, the enclave was bustling with activity, as tourists and locals alike wandered the streets and began their shopping trips in the Japan Center. It was in this nexus of ancient traditions, concrete streets, and neon lights that a two-story building adorned with the mural of a shrimp sat slightly off of the neighborhood's center. Kobayashi Sushi is not the most famous of Japantown's restaurants, but it does have a loyal following in the local culinary community, some of whom have made their way to the establishment for a lunch break. But above the soft blue lights and dark pads of the main dining room, the Kobayashi family sat at their short-legged chabudai eating some sushi. Wielding chopsticks with surprising finesse in her thick fingers, Samantha Kobayashi gently dipped piece after piece of sushi from the sea of maki rolls and nigiri that covered her plate in soy sauce before chowing down. Sammy's mom, a raven-haired 5'2 Japanese woman, was savoring on a gyoza, and her dad was sitting in contemplation, his tempura slowly cooling before him. "Musume, are you sure you want to do this? It seems dangerous to participate in such an experimental experience..." "Papa, I'm sure everything's gonna be fine. Don't worry about it!" The tall girl popped another piece of tako nigiri into her mouth, relishing the taste.

After lunch and one final hug with her family, Sammy walked into her room, ducking under her door frame and hooked herself (uncomfortably) to the Digilizer. She takes one last look at her room and the neighborhood visible from her window before saying, "Welp, here goes nothing... DWO, log in"

Logging in... User: san_francisco_giant... DIGILIZING NOW!

Sammy felt like she was falling into a dream before her sandals plopped down on a wooded pathway that reminded her a bit of Japantown. Looking around, she could see a mix of traditional Japanese architecture with a bit of the modern cityscape that she was more familiar with. Suddenly, after she landed, she heard a booming voice nearby. Running towards the noise, Sammy came across a massive crowd of people. Looking at the screens, she recognized Kazuki Iwakiri's face and began to listen to the CEO's speech.

"Now I'm sure you don't want to hear me blather on about game mechanics, or the end goal of DWO is supposed to be, but here's a tip from me to you!  A tutorial of sorts! This is your menu.  Anyone familiar with gaming should be familiar with this.  Here, you can see all of your stats, and items!  I figured you should at least learn that!" Sammy opened up her own menu and began looking around, seeing a log section. That may come in handy later Sammy thought. Always good to have notes. Sammy continued to look around her menu and surroundings with a sense of wonder when an egg crashed into her, knocking her down. Then she heard a dry, throaty voice begin to talk to her. "Pssst, kid, ya there? Kid?"

Sammy jumped up and stared at the small, seed-like creature at her feet. "...oh, hello there..."

"I'm looking for someone named Samantha Kobayashi. Have you seen her around?"

Sammy just sat there dumbfounded for a second.

"Answer me kid!" The seed monster seemed oddly intimidating for his size, perhaps because of the large red thorns covering his body.

Sammy slowly pointed down to herself. "I think you're looking for me?"

"...oh. Sorry about that Sammy, I just didn't expect you to be... well..."

"Get that a lot. So, you're Sequoia, right? Nice to meet you!"

"Nice to finally meet in the flesh... well, data... too. Now, let's get explor-WOAH, what do you think you're doing?"

Sammy plopped Sequoia on her shoulder. "That a better view?" Sequoia begrudgingly agreed and then the two set off past the gates of Asuka city, Sammy bounding with limitless enthusiasm.

So, Samantha, can I ask you a few questions about your life?

"Sure! Don't get too personal though."

What motivated you to get DWO?

“DWO is an interesting game!  Being able to go into the game and interact with people is very unique and gives me an opportunity to talk to people. Hopefully my nerves don’t act up too much on launch day…”

I noticed that your last name is Japanese. Is there any particular reason why?

"I was adopted by Mama and Papa soon after my birth, I think. I've actually been bilingual ever since I started talking."

So what are your parents like? What do they do?

"Mama and Papa both work at our family's sushi restaurant. They're both extremely nice and always there for me. Papa can be scary when he's mad though... even with him being two feet shorter than me chuckle"

    So where do you live?

"Currently, I'm living with my parents in an apartment in Japantown. My parent's restaurant is right below our apartment actually."

What is living above a restaurant like?

"It's... quite hectic, to be honest! I can hear noise coming from the restaurant most of the night. But on the bright side, at least I get really good food!"

How did your experience with school go? I believe you just graduated high school, correct?

"Overall, school has gone generally well. I did get bullied hard during middle school though. That sucked."

    How were you bullied?

"It was generally the usual name-calling, insults, rumors. One of them even tried to fight me. I tried to slap him... and accidentally broke his nose. Still don't fully trust myself because of that."

Now, as we're wrapping up... one last question

    "...yes?"

    How tall are you exactly?

    "7 ft tall exactly."

Is there any particular reason for your height?

"I have no clue why I'm so tall. However, my doctors suspect that it's a genetic disorder of some sort."

  15. Scout

Scout stood their awkwardly as Spike had argued with the robot crew across from them, the hair on their whole body standing on end. Once the fight had broken up and the inspectors arrived, Scout glanced over to Oru.  “I’m going inside to get a drink. Do you want anything?”

"Just a glass of water," the An-Vi replied, watching the scant few people moving throughout the spaceport before turning and entering the ship, no doubt to catch up to those inspectors and whoever happened to be showing them around.

Scout entered the ship and entered the small, cramped kitchen. Grabbing two thermoses, they fill one with water and the other with milk, all the while their head creeps slowly upwards. Those snake-like inspectors didn't feel quite... right to them. Shaking of their misgivings, Scout wandered through the ship, finding Oru at the entrance to the cargo bay. “Here’s your glass ma’am.”  They stand there for a second in thought. “…is it just me, or are the inspectors a bit… nerve-wracking? I don’t quite know how to describe it”

"That's how it tends to be with the Sarvatti," Oru sighed, taking the glass and downing a small sip of its contents, as she and Scout observed the pair checking the contents of the crates loaded into the Janissary, having caught up with A.C.E. and Mandevilla to do so. "They don't trust outsiders. I'm willing to bet they think we've got contraband on-board, and want to take us to the courts over it." The cargo inspection itself was going rather smoothly by the looks of it. Occasionally, one of the inspectors would say something in their race's language, and the other would write something down on a holographic display.

As soon as Oru mentions possibly being tried in court, Scout jolts up an inch or two, but tries to hide it. Taking a sip of their milk, they say, “At least it seems they’re not suing us yet…” They tap their bare feet on the floor slightly and stretch their arms, slowly starting to revert to their normal size.

"It wouldn't be a lawsuit anyway; just a straight arrest. As long as our cargo is legit - which it is - there should be no issues. If there is, just let me handle it. Wouldn't be my first time in the Sarvatti court system."

The word ‘arrest’ causes Scout to panic for a microsecond before calming down. “So… what should I do in that instance, if anything? I don’t want to get sent back to Pluto after all…”

"They'd only start deporting crew members if we're found guilty. You'd either get sent back to Pluto if you were registered as a citizen of the planet, or in the case where you don't have the proper paperwork to prove you belong to anywhere, they'd drop you off at a Union space station to get you sorted out."

“I’m not sure what I would be sorted under…” Scout thinks for a second “Am I even a proper citizen technically? I don’t think I have any proper documentation… only stuff I have is from Moonscar Labs” Even thinking of that name sent a slight shiver down Scout’s spine.

    Oru shrugged. "Not my jurisdiction."

“That’s fair, but we should probably figure that out. It’s been… what, two years at this point?” Scout begins to turn their attention back to the inspectors.

"Remind me when we're not in Sarvatti territory."

Scout gets out a small notebook and writes down “FIGURE OUT CITIZENSHIP STATUS” in all caps. The inspectors are about to get to ‘that one crate’, which happens to be decently near where Oru and Scout are standing

  16. Scout

"Welcome to Bekkik, everyone. The best worst place in the Galactic Union"

Scout exited the entry hatch of the Janissary, the dry grass crunching under their bare feet. The morning sunlight and warm desert air was quite refreshing to the lycanform, who sat down and began to look around the barren fields that surrounded them. "Well, it's way better than Pluto at least. An actual atmosphere, wildlife, heat, not being examined every minute of the day... this place is great!"

Scout watched some small, bug-like creatures scuttling around the edges of the platform with a look of wonder in their eyes. The critters fascinated them, as did the various people walking around the port. Then a pang of thirst hit Scout's throat, and they turned to Oru.

"Hey, Oru... do you mind if I head inside the port for a bit?"

  17. An Orphan Werewolf on The Janissary

    Spoiler

    Name: Scout
    Age: 18
    Gender: Nonbinary (They/Them Pronouns)
    Race: Human-Wolf Hybrid (Werewolf)
    Home Planet: Pluto

    Appearance:

    Spoiler

    94097_3syRHsBz.png

In their normal form, Scout is a youthful-looking person with vibrant skin and large, brown eyes. Scout has a thin, straight figure, with slightly longer legs than average for their height of 5' 0". They aren't very muscular or curvy. Scout is fairly hairy, with their brown hair has the consistency of fur, and they have several other dog-like traits, including their pointed ears, dog-like nose, sharp teeth, and short tail. Due to their ears and tail, Scout is occasionally mistaken for an An-Vi at first glance, but usually this confusion only lasts for a few moments. Scout commonly wears a brown jacket, grey and black striped t-shirt, sweatpants, and a black bandana around their neck.

When they transform, Scout morphs from a generally thin, youthful figure to a towering, muscular wolf-person. In werewolf form, Scout is over 7' 5" tall. They have a wide-shouldered figure, and their arms and legs are covered in muscle. Scout's face is more wolf-like in this form, having a short muzzle and being covered in hair/fur. Scout's normal hair is even thicker and more wild in this form, forming a bit of a mane. Scout's torso and most of their extremities is also covered in hair. Scout's hands and feet now have wolf-like pads and black claws. Scout's tail is thicker and longer in this form as well.

    Personality:

    Spoiler

Scout's personality, in short, is what you get when you cross a dog with an excitable teenager. They're excitable, cheerful, optimistic, and extremely loyal to their friends. Scout is often honest to a fault and can be extremely empathetic, trying to comfort their friends as much as possible. However, Scout tends to hide when they are feeling down or stressed, at least until the point where it leads them to transform.

When transformed, Scout is more moody, but is still chipper in a more sarcastic way. They tend to be quieter in this form, their humor tends to be darker, and they also tend to be slightly more aggressive. Scout unintentionally amplifies these personality changes around strangers and when extremely stressed, sometimes becoming so stressed as to appear as more wild animal than person.

    Biography:

    Spoiler

Scout has always been alone. Ever since they were “born”, or more accurately created in a lab, Scout has not had anyone to support them… or tie them down for that matter. Living in a lab for their entire life took a toll on Scout, especially with all of the tests done on them. After 16 long, hard years, Scout was finally released from the Plutonian lab that had made them when it became the subject of a government investigation. While their leave from the facility was meant to be temporary, Scout managed to smuggle themselves onto the Janissary , not being found until two days later. While their first few days on the ship were awkward, soon Scout became just another member of the crew, acting as either an errand runner or extra muscle as needed.

    Misc:
-Scout’s lycanthropic transformation is triggered by either stress or through intentional concentration. Stress-caused transformations are much faster than those caused by intentional concentration.

-Scout has a few dog-like traits, such as liking scratches behind the ears, eating mostly meat, and having their tail show their emotions. They also have one extremely weird trait: an obsession with milk.

-While Scout is mostly bipedal, they can very effectively run on all fours.
