    TITANS LEGACY
    CH. 1: SPUTTERING?

    OOC

Infrastructure was a hot commodity in Imbrium City. For a metropolis ostensibly named after a lunar sea, there seemed to be a surprising dearth of oceanfront real estate. So even though the Titans headquarters on the water like their counterparts, they couldn’t afford the soaring T-shaped tower present in other cities. Instead, the Titans North complex was a rambling set of converted warehouses around a central lookout, the only real sign that it belonged to an outpost of superheroes being the logo etched over the main entrance.

It was through here that six soggy and very downtrodden-looking young heroes made their way. Capricorn was leading the trek back: he wasn’t pissed or anything, but the expression on his face would lead one to believe otherwise.

“Storm Sire- Milly,” he started, before quickly shaking what felt like a gallon of seawater out of his ear. “Please talk to Ocean Master some time about not siccing his attack crabs on us next time we have to go anywhere near the ocean. If you can,” he added. “I’m sick of having Atlantis’ high prince of villainy complicating what was otherwise a straightforward mission. We’re not even in the Atlantic, for gods’ sake!”

The round communicator holstered on Capricorn’s arm beeped as it interfaced with the complex’s security system, setting the glass doors to slide open with a whir. “And c’mon guys… We’ve been together for what, six months now? But we’re still making these strategic fouls!” He plodded in, a trail of seawater following him, and collapsed onto the couch. The Bow of the Hunt clattered next to him, dissolving into a plume of purple smoke as he recalled it.

“What will Evergreen say…? Ugh.” He flopped back, fully expecting his teammates to castigate him over his uncharacteristic negativity. Oh well. He was owed it every so often.

OOC: Welcome to Teen Titans North HQ, your home away from home. Having returned from an oceanic sojourn (rescuing a submarine of innocent sailors from a malicious villain), you're here to chill... for now. Feel free to interact with your fellow heroes for a few posts: the first actual mission will kick off soon enough.

So this woman can Spit. Fire.

I don't think many people know her outside of the Midwest or WtNV fandoms, but let me tell you, she's one of the best-if not the best-female MCs out there right now. She can rap just as well as she sings, and is one hell of a poet to boot. Also, seen her in concert twice, and copped one hug and one signed setlist from each. So I'm biased.

Let me know if y'all like her and I'll post more of her.

  3. The team is as follows:

    1. Rinne -- Capricorn
    2. Saiba Aisu -- Diviner
    3. ZetaRESP -- Storm Siren
    4. ChampionZero -- Nano
    5. Mr. Hyde -- Cherry Blade
    6. ArgosPanoptes -- Impact

Will post the IC thread later this week! Also, my app (finally).

    Spoiler

    Name: Finn MacEwan

    Alias: Capricorn

    Gender: Male, cisgender

    Age: 26

    Race/Species: Demigod, son of Cernunnos

    Height/Weight: 5'10”, 180 lbs.

Build/Complexion: Pale skin with freckles, befitting his Irish heritage. Decently muscular, with a gymnast's build that's focused in his arms and chest.

    Hair: Dark black, almost purple.

Eyes: Dark blue, also almost purple.

    Outfit:

    • Uniform: As Huntsman, Finn wears a sleeveless bodysuit, primarily black with deep purple sides. A white armsleeve and glove extends down his right arm, buckled across his chest. A loose sash of golden fabric hangs at his waist, fastened with a medallion inscribed with a goat's head.
    • Casual: Finn usually dresses rather relaxedly: jeans and a polo shirt are preferred. He prefers secondary colors, so you'll usually see army green, orange or even a rich purple. He also always wears a small silver pendant with an inscribed pentagram.

Personality: Finn for the most part is a rather easy-going individual. Although a man of few words, he lets his concerns slip off him like water running down his back, keeping up a placid and unconcerned front. He prefers to play the “strong and silent” type when in public, acting as a de facto leader figure for the rest of the Titans, if not a resilient bedrock. In all honesty, the thing Finn is most afraid of is losing his humanity. Being infused with the presence of a god who he doesn't fully understand still manages to scare him, and Finn is terrified that if he ever gets into the same predicament again, his father's divine heritage may fully emerge—and burn away what's left of him in the process. He thus has been known to restrain his use of his powers at times, preferring to rely on his physical expertise and agility to apprehend villains. However, each time he regenerates from a wound and dips a bit further into his divinity, Finn fears he will slip further away.

    Powers:

    • Divine Strength and Athletics: His divine heritage grants Finn supernatural strength and endurance. He can bench press upwards of 500 pounds as a warmup, but under duress can lift almost two tons. This also extends to his combat capabilities: he primarily uses a boxing stance when fighting off combatants with his fists, so a single punch thrown by him carries the force of a full train behind it.
    • Healing: The blessing of Cernunnos will restore Finn's body from any physical trauma to fighting shape. While this results in passive accelerated healing, he can speed up the processes of time with focus, knitting together the flesh and bone with tongues of purifying purple fire. Notably, Finn can also heal others, but it takes much more out of him, so he does so sparingly.
    • Archery Skills: Finn took to archery as a hobby to keep his reflexes and skills up, and a lifetime of devotion to it (and some training with the Green Arrow) has paid off. While his arrows can only be fired one at a time and have less of the trick capabilities than his contemporaries, he makes up for it with absurd accuracy and speed. Pinning a fly from 100 paces isn’t unheard of with his skills. It’s also likely that Cernunnos’ divine blessing has enhanced his skills.
    • Bow of the Hunt: A gift from his father, the Bow of the Hunt is a magically-constructed longbow made of an unidentifiable metal, and can be summoned and dismissed at will. The bowstring is crafted of purple energy, and Finn can generate a hypothetically-unlimited number of arrows with similar energy: although it can only fire one at a time, that doesn’t mean he can’t shoot rapidfire.

    Background:

    • Twenty six years ago, Maeve MacGrian, an Irish-American nurse, was on vacation in County Meath. And as a single woman, she couldn’t help herself when an attractive stranger introduced himself to her at the Houndstooth Pub. It was a one-night intoxicated fling that she barely remembers when she tries to recount it to her only son Finn, but when she tried describing the man who would be his father, details were scant. The only words she could use to describe him was that “he smelled of… life.”
    • It was a word that could apply to her son as well. Finn was from an early age quite gifted. His mother was a bartender in the rough-scrabble Southie neighborhood of Boston, and even when he was young Finn knew how to scrap. Finn was blessed with great physical skills early on, and Maeve had to reel her son in more than once from pissing off the local gangs. She got him involved in sports programs through the city early on, and Finn gravitated quickly towards archery. Something about shooting things really appealed to him, or the sort.
    • So as his skills grew, Finn’s fame spread across the Eastern seaboard. He went to archery competitions as an outlet for his youthful energy (and as a way to compensate for his failing grades), and quickly rose to the top, garnering medal after medal. He eventually caught the attention of one playboy Oliver Queen, who saw a bit of himself in the upstart young hotshot. He invited Finn to Star City, California to talk about sponsorship under his company, Queen Consolidated, for the Olympics. Unaware of his mentor’s alter ego, Finn enthusiastically accepted, going home to tell the news to his mother. Fate had a way of intervening though.
    • Shortly before leaving to Star City, Finn fell sick with a fever and couldn’t go. Tossing and turning in bed, it was in his dreams that a man visited him. The spiraling horns of a goat sprung from his forehead, and he was bedecked in iron jewelry and wrapped in a purple robe. He didn’t name himself, but he apologized for having to only introduce himself to Finn now. Finn had divine blood, the figure claimed. As his father, his children took many aspects of his heritage, aspects that would dictate their destiny. Life, death, fertility… And Finn’s birthright, he said, was of the hunt. The method of reaping nature’s bounty, of changing life to death. Someday, he would lead the Wild Hunt in his father’s place. As the son of Cernunnos, it was only inevitable.
    • He hollered at the turned figure’s back as it walked away, but all Finn could do was have his questions fall unanswered as the dream world was consumed by light. And when he woke with a start, it wasn’t the dream that surprised him the most. It was the metal longbow straddling his chest, cool and unfamiliar. As Finn’s fingers wrapped around it, a thin line of purple energy leapt to life as the string. A thin handwritten tag was tied to the bow: “A gift. --C”
    • Naturally, this freaked out Finn all sorts of ways, and almost moreso his mother (when she realized she had slept with an Irish death god). It did end up explaining a number of things, though: Finn’s predilection towards archery, his increased strength even from a young age, and his seeming inability to get sick.

Two cards were spoiled -- images here.

  5. Application code is below: feel free to style it as you please. If you'd like to apply, please reserve your power set in your post. (Also I'm gonna get the main post prettied up, I swear.) Remove anything in (parentheses) in the app.

    ABILITIES

    • Powers:
      • (Power Name): (List them out in a bulleted form, like this. I recommend 100+ words for this section: for a hero, powers are key!)
      • (Power Name): (Don't feel like you have to reinvent the wheel here: a simple/uncomplicated powerset applied effectively will be preferred to one that's high-concept but confusing to follow. And remember: tech genius can suffice as a power. Ask Iron Man!)
      • (Power Name): (If you'd like any canon links here, please DM me or ask first!)
    • Equipment:
      • (Equipment Name): (Same as above. Don't go too over-the-top here.)

    PERSONALITY

    • (Please format this section as you like. I have no length requirement here (i.e. bulleted sentences are fine!), but I'd like you to use this section to outline your character's persona and motivations. If you don't do so sufficiently, I'll ask you to expand.)

    HISTORY

    • (Same note as Personality. I encourage you to mention any past heroics here: baggage is fun!)

    SAMPLE

    • (The meat and bones of the application. You must write an IC post for your character, detailing a snapshot of their heroic exploits. This can be an action piece or a character portrait, but I need to see how you'll write your applicant. No length requirement, but write what you think you'll be able to manage on an average basis over the course of the RP.)

    titans: legacy

    the story so far

High above the earth, a satellite floated, gyrating in slow deliberate circles. The beings inside observed the Earth below with the same type of quiet thoughtfulness, a wisdom only earned through power. They knew what would come next.

Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern… They were all names known worldwide, responsible for maintaining peace and delivering justice to the wicked. But they were only so many in number, and as humanity grew, so did its potential for wickedness. Yes, many threats may have fallen. But there were plenty to take their place—and the Justice League knew it was inevitable that these names would rise again.

So it was to no surprise that their decision was unanimous. The Justice League would recruit more members into their fold: under the Titans program, age was no barrier to success. This organization became a beacon of hope and aspiration for powered young folks across the globe: as long as they faced problems and villainy within their communities, they could prove to be the solution to the problem.

And one day, each of these Titans would inherit the mantles of their predecessors. And maybe, they’d craft their own legacies in turn.

Welcome, young Titan! You’re a new transplant to Imbrium City, handpicked by the Executive Council of the Justice League and plucked from wherever you came from across the globe to take up residence in one of the northwestern US’ most crime-ridden metropolises. Your task—should you choose to play along, of course—is to take down superhero crime as it emerges. Pretty straightforward in concept, but you’re a bit green behind the gills, so even the simplest of superpowered tasks can be complicated. For now, just try to get through the day without killing or screwing your teammates… or even both.

    the rules

    1. Please read and understand NCM and section rules before posting.
    2. This RP is set in the DC Comics universe. While it is not required to have prior canon knowledge, as the RP’s plot will deal heavily with the theme of “legacy,” there will be interactions with canon characters—so I recommend you be willing to do at least some research. That said, if you’d like your character to have significant canon ties from the onset (ex. you want to make a young member of the Lantern Corps), DM me first so we can iron out logistics. The storyline will be independent of any existing plot, so don’t worry about having to read any specific comics.
    3. You have creative freedom when making your character, but please remember that GM word is final, and you may be asked to change things if deemed necessary. There’s a fine line between over-the-top and just plain silly: I expect you to know where that lies.
    4. I won’t be restricting your potential powers, but please be reasonable and consider how your character’s abilities will work in the context of an RP. Being accepted into this RP means that you are committed to seeing it advance. If you end up falling inactive, you may be dismissed from participating. When posting, please let at least two people go before you before posting again; and aim to post 2-3 times a week. If for some reason you’ll need to be inactive for an extended period, please let the hosts know so they can write around your absence.
    5. As of right now, I only want one character per player. If you are competing for a particular position against another applicant… well, tough. I’ll pick applications based on how I think the characters will overlap and interact with one another—diversity in character type is key. Finally, six characters max will be on the Titans, meaning I’ll only accept five other players.

Long time no see, my guy.

You could probs use 1 or 2 utility cards in the lands area, just stuff like Bojuka Bog and Reliquary Tower (probably really want that last one when you're doubling your Skullclamp triggers).

Living Death is batshit-insane-bananas, especially after you've sacced everything to an Altar or something.

If you want some more ramp (you're kinda light there) Black Market gets doubled triggers from Teysa. MIGHTY SPICE. Grave Titan synergizes well with Teysa too, as she buffs its tokens.

    You too, fam. o/

What lands do you suggest? I'm generally not a big fan of utility lands, but I have so many basics atm that it probably wouldn't hurt. Reliquary Tower isn't one I'm too hot on, though, considering discard can help me if I'm aiming to reanimate stuff.

Black Market has always been a trap card, in my experience: it's 5 mana, so it doesn't help you ramp early; and you don't even get the benefit until your next turn. It's always hit the board and eaten a removal spell immediately after.

Bombs: No. You don't have karmic guide. Add karmic guide. The combo with reveillark is simply too good to pass up, and it is generically powerful as well (as all combo pieces should be, fuck you pili pala put down that cranial plating and go back to the kitchen table). Otherwise I'd say you're probably fine, maybe toss in crypt ghast to help push your x spells. Living death is a winbutton in many gamestates, as already mentioned.

Card Draw: You aren't running phyrexian arena. Run phyrexian arena. Otherwise I think you are fine on the draw effects, but I feel advantage should be capitalized upon more heavily. Land Tax is a mainstay of the format for a reason, and even cards that net you low-quality advantage, like scrying sheets, make all the difference in orzhov. Run some cards to help you get to your advantage generators, like Stoneforge Mystic and Academy Rector. Also, run Phyrexian Arena.

Removal: Honestly I don't think that should be much of a concern. Between grave pact effects and boardwipes, it will be difficult for aggro to keep up with you. Return to dust is fantastic, and Anguished Unmaking is similar, but honestly I'd go as far as Utter End to be sure you can cut short combos when you need to. Though you are a combo deck, and a resilient one at that, most other combos will go off before you can so you need to be prepared for it. Though it doesn't do much against combo, Vindicate is stupid good and you should probably run it.

    But I don't wanna be a combo deck. ?

Fine, I'll think of something to cut for Living Death. Thoughts?

    > Phyrexian Arena

I don't like Arena that much, surprisingly. It's been too slow in the many games I've played.

Also featuring on TappedOut. Goal here is straightforward: abuse the death triggers of your creatures as much as possible, and overwhelm your opponents with a token swarm in the process. My thoughts, and points that I'd like some feedback on:

    1. Are there enough bombs? Deck feels highly synergistic to me on first pass, but afraid that there's not enough raw power.
    2. How about enough card draw?
    3. And removal?

  12. So I think a Gx Elves shell is viable in the upcoming standard, but have you considered going Gruul? Rhythm of the Wilds seems absolutely backbreaking against control, and the removal is better -- Lava Coil, Thrash/Threat, Lightning Strike, etc.

I do think the core of whatever you have should be:

    • 4 Llanowar Elves
    • 4 Druid of the Cowl
    • 4 Elvish Clancaller
    • 4 Growth-Chamber Guardian
    • 4 Incubation Druid
    • 3 Marwyn, the Nurturer
    • 2 End-Raze Forerunners

  13. Hey kids.

Pretty excited about the set overall.

    • Riot seems pretty strong and there are a number of Gruul cards I want for my Hallar deck (i.e. Ravager Wurm, Rhythm of the Wild, Cindervines).
    • Incubation Druid will be absolutely nutty in that deck too.
    • Emergency Powers seems bonkers strong. I try to keep cards in my decks below CMC 7, but this will have to be an exception for Ephara. Refueling your hand and dropping a big boi is too good.
    • Going to have to build Teysa at some point. Death-harmonicon has too many options: Kokusho will give you like 30 life on dying!
