"And who are you? You some kind of foreigner? I met a few of those a while back you know, you one of them?"

"Well, I'm... certainly not from here." It was just a gut feeling, but flat-out lying to this girl would - at best - bite her later. At worst, she'd see right through it and know then and there.

"Well that woulda been great. I actually am planning on going over there and taking him on. I've gotten a lot stronger. I think I can take him this time. You wanna come with, Trevor, it'd be a lot easier with you next to me."

    "That's...not... I couldn't do that." he finished.

"Well, more glory for me I guess. What about you?"

"Ahhh, I wouldn't go up there right now if I were you." Buy time. "It's such a hassle with all the other fighting going on in town, and I'm pretty sure I saw a few people head up there already. And if you can't beat Heatran all by yourself, then what's the point, right?" Nani then gestured toward the smaller kids. "Plus, you just got back, and it looks like your sisters really missed you. I never had any sisters so I can't relate, but if I did, I think I'd want her to stick around for a bit before taking off to do something dangerous." So far, so good... right? It wasn't straight-up combat with a legendary like the others were doing, but in her own way, right here and now, Nani was going to fight to keep Allie from going up there and making the whole situation that much worse.

"<He unlocked the next level, so we're heading there, senpai. The wall was as solid as it could be and he opened it. It's a plot barrier! It exists only to stop you from going forward without having solved a story element>"

This kid's going to get himself killed one day. I just know it. The whole game thing must have been some sort of coping mechanism. In that case, it would probably be for the better to not burst his bubble. If he wanted to believe something ridiculous like that, and it made him feel better about the whole situation, who was she to deny him that? <You won't get any continues here, so make sure to play safe.> Kokoro then turned her attention to Connor. "And your excuse?" she asked, a bit more sternly.

"As much as a bad idea it is, we're gonna have to go in there. Together."

"Then stay behind me," Kokoro replied. "I know my way around a fight a bit more than I'd like to admit, and worst-case, Minamizawa and I are the only ones with these creatures. And I'm pretty sure Hackmon here would be a better fighter than..." Kokoro glanced at Minamizawa's own partner. Compared to Hackmon, it was kind of a pathetic-looking little thing. "Whatever that is." Nudging her way past Connor, Kokoro led the way down the tunnel.

"I'm not a vampire. I just lived under a lot of dirt and rocks for awhile."

Aurora now had additional questions. If she drank blood and lived under dirt and rocks, but wasn't a vampire... then what was she? Hopefully there'd be time to ask about that later. For now though, it was movie time! Aurora pulled up her map of the city, looking around for the nearest movie theater. It wasn't too far off, either! Or at least, it was closer than that park had been. That kind of makes sense, come to think of it. Entertainment here, entertainment there. Maybe it was a district thing? She didn't know; she was a hero-student-gone-fighter, not a city planner.

"We can figure out what to watch once we're there. It's not that far, so let's get going!"

Well, here they were. The movie theater. Cyan and Gavin opted not to tag along, and Aurora... didn't recognize any of these titles. Which made sense. Ross had said an action movie might be nice. Aurora agreed. "What kind of movie have you got in mind?" she asked to Morgan.

“Let's get started with this: another Horus the black flame dragon LV 4.”

    ATK: 1600

“And next, a spell: Level up! Which lets me summon Horus LV 6.”

    ATK: 2300

“Now, before you fall asleep on me, let’s make things interesting, shall we? Horus, attack Blazewing Butterfly!” On command, Horus let loose a jet of black flames, enveloping its target completely and setting the grass nearby on fire- the non holographic kind.

    Kyouko: 8000 -> 7200

“And let me guess,” Kyouko deadpanned. “Your oversized pigeon is about to get even bigger.”

“That’s correct. Two more levels bigger, to be precise.” On cue, Horus sprouted a pair of arms from within its metal wings.

    ATK: 3000

“And now, let’s activate a trap card. I hope you’re familiar with Royal Decree?” From the hologram of his face-down card, the image of the king appeared, and from underneath him rose his castle. “If not, allow me to explain what kind of predicament you’re in. Horus here allows me to negate any spell card that’s played, and with royal decree, the effects of all other trap cards are negated, which leaves two thirds of your deck useless.”

“So I’ve got to get out of this with just my monsters?”

“That’s correct. Which, if I remember correctly, tend not to have effects. Seems you’re in a bit of a bind. I set two cards face-down, and end my turn.”

“I draw.” Trap card. It was a nice card for a bit later, but it wouldn’t do her any good right now, would it? “Yeah, it’s a pretty tight grip you’ve got on my deck right now. But you neglected my other monster. I attack with Heavy Knight of the Flame!” Just as before, the chariot-riding skeleton charged forward, sword of fire ready to strike down.

“Did you think I wasn’t prepared for that? I activate one of my face-downs: Book of Moon! This quick-play spell card sets your monster in face-down defense position. Sorry about that.”

“Tch.” Kyouko put her monster face-down. She could put the monster in her hand down if she wanted, but Horus could just kill that one too. “I set one card face-down, and end my turn.”

“That’s what you get for underestimating your opponent. Now, I draw.” Raven looked over his hand. “Let’s start this turn with a field spell. I activate Molten Destruction, to increase the ATK of all FIRE monsters by 500, at the cost of 400 DEF!”

    Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8: 3000 -> 3500

“And now, battle phase. I attack your face-down Heavy Knight with Horus.” At Raven’s command, the dragon scorched Kyouko’s face-down monster with a stream of black fire, aimed directly at Kyouko’s monster, destroying it. “And now, I end my turn.”

“My turn. Draw.” Kyouko drew her next card. Another monster. Something was coming together in her head, but it wasn’t ready just yet… “I end my turn.”

“Leaving yourself wide open to attack? How curious. I draw.” Raven looked at his hand. And then Kyouko’s. She had to be up to something. Best to play it a bit safe, especially when he was so close to winning. It was best not to overextend right now, just in case. “I attack directly with Horus the Black Flame Dragon!”

She barely had time to move out of the way before the ground where she was standing just moments ago was set ablaze, leaving only a blackened and charred patch behind. “Watch where you’re aiming that stuff!”

    Kyouko: 7200 -> 3700

“You’re running out of life points. Better come up with something quick. I end my turn.”

“I’ve got some ideas alright. Draw!” Kyouko wasted no time grinning ear to ear at the sight of her card. “And it looks like you’re about to find out what they are.”

    BGM

“Your Horus monster negates the activation of spell cards, but doesn’t do anything to the effects of spells that are already on the field. I learned that one from somebody on the duel team. Which means I can activate the effect of Herculean Power, to summon the Level 4 Tuned Magician from my hand!”

    ATK: 1800

“Next, I’ll Normal Summon another Level 4 monster: Evocator Chevalier. This is a FIRE monster, so he enjoys the extra power from your Molten Destruction.”

    ATK: 1900 -> 2400

“But that’s not what I want him for. Using the effect of my own field spell - Catalyst Field - I can normal summon a gemini monster once per turn, in addition to my regular one. I normal summon Tuned Magician again, to have it gain its effect!” As a distinct red glow formed around Kyouko’s monster, she continued “Its effect is actually pretty bad. All it does is turn it into a tuner monster. But that’s still good enough to let me tune my Level 4 Tuned Magician, and my Level 4 Evocator Chevalier, to make a Level 8 monster. I synchro summon Black Brutdrago!” Behind Kyouko, the visage of a hulking black dragon formed, glaring at Raven’s own dragon with a savage look in its eyes.

    ATK: 3000 -> 3500

“Next, I activate his effect. By discarding the Phoenix Gearfried in my hand, I’ll destroy your Royal Decree!” With more of a prolonged snort than a roar, Kyouko’s own dragon exhaled a wave of fire aimed directly at the king and castle so proudly erected on Raven’s side of the field, burning it down completely.

    “Impressive,” Raven commented.

“We’re only getting started. I said I’m on a time crunch, so let’s finish this already. Battle phase! I’ll start by attacking your Horus with my Black Brutdrago!” With a deep grunt, Kyouko’s dragon charged forward, forcing its way through a jet of black flames fired at it to tackle and ram Horus, destroying both monsters. “When Black Brutdrago is destroyed, I can special summon any gemini monster from my graveyard, complete with its effects. I choose Phoenix Gearfried!” Where the dragon was standing not long ago, a towering knight, clad in shiny white armor appeared, with that distinctive red glow around its body.

    ATK: 2800 -> 3300

“Next, with your Royal Decree gone, I activate Call of the Haunted, to bring back my Black Brutdrago from the graveyard!” Just as before, the brutish black dragon appeared behind Kyouko, this time accompanied by a ghastly purple smoke rising from its body. “Looks like that field spell did more harm than good, huh? I attack directly with both Black Brutdrago and Phoenix Gearfried!”

    Raven: 6500 -> 0

As the magenta sky dispersed around the two, returning to the “natural” environment of Ambrosia, Kyouko asked “Now, was there anything else you needed to waste my time on, or can I go now?”

"So...you brats really think you can step on our turf, beat up some of my guys, and throw a car at me?!"

"Even if we don't think we can, we have to!" Because that's what being a hero was about. Sort of. Not the "recklessly endangering yourself" part so much as the "do what it takes to curb out the bad guys".

"Sure you don't wanna join the yakuza? Any brat that can put a bruise on me is worth their weight in gold! Well...the survivors have the best chance of joinin'...so why don't we start initiation!"

"I'm sure!" Hibiki retorted, jumping up with a small boost from her wings, just high enough to avoid getting hit, and letting her land behind the guy. And now with herself no longer between the bad guy and everyone else, hopefully that meant someone would be able to make a good followup. This guy seemed super-tough though! Maybe a bluff would help? Yeah. Maybe.

Hibiki bared her fangs, and dove forward to bite the thug, square on the neck.

Nani... didn't really get Trevor's explanation of what the big deal was with the volcano. The words he said made sense, but as a concept, it just didn't click. Adarid really was a weird place. Not a region she'd recommend to avid tourists unless they liked weird stuff. As she and the group she was currently with got up to Trevor's house, though, a familiar face showed herself.

    "Yo. Long time no see."

Well, that's not a good sign.

Although... Allie hadn't actually seen Nani, had she? Until the encounter with Yveltal, Nani had been pretty good about hiding away in the shadows where nobody would see her. Yeah. She could work her way through this no problem, especially if she was able to keep Allie here long enough for Heatran to be satisfied and return to the inside of the volcano. "Hiiiii~," she casually greeted, after a bit of hesitation to figure out just how to do this. Eyeing Allie's features up and down, she continued "Nice to meet you. I don't think we've met before. Sorry if I'm eyeing you a bit; I haven't met a lot of Tyranitars before, and I keep hearing all sorts of amazing things about them. You must be the sister of these two, right?"

Come on Nani, that one was obvious. The kids even called her sis.

    Name: Misaki Shirai
    Age: 21
    Gender: Female

    Physical Description:

    Spoiler

    WZsCbla.png
    (art by Ball&Khay)

    Height: 5'8"
    Weight: 134 pounds

    Personality:

    Spoiler

If the meek are truly meant to inherit the earth, Misaki is destined for nothing short of world domination. Although not a coward, Misaki simply lacks any backbone to speak of. Much of her upbringing was run on the basis of "be quiet and do as you're told," so submissively obeying everyone around her has since become nature to the red-clad magus. She's never really been one to step out of line, act out, or even put up any form of opposition to her fate as the Shirai family's "super-weapon." Even down to her manner of speech - riddled with passive apologies and half-hearted requests instead of orders - Misaki is the perfect doormat of a human being. Between her crippling lack of confidence, painfully passive demeanor, and chronic starvation for affection and appreciation, it's safe to say that Misaki tends to be wound up pretty tight.

So how does she deal with it? Why, she doesn't have to, of course! After all, the best way to get everything off her chest would be to talk to others about it, and with Misaki's lackluster-at-best social skills, that's just wishful thinking. There's no hobbies that would work either; she wouldn't be any good at them, and she's supposed to be perfecting her craft anyway! These and other sentiments have been fed to Misaki over her life to avoid any chance of her finding something she's passionate about, and made her even more withdrawn simply to avoid the anxiety of dealing with other people. As such, talking with Misaki is tough.

This lack of hobbies isn't for lack of trying, though. Misaki finds the best way to deal with stress is with some good old escapism. Games, anime, manga, all naturally developed into things she'd relish in with her extremely limited free time, simply because delving into amazing fictional worlds helped her forget about the one she's stuck living in, and those were the most easily-accessed forms of media for her. She's also an avid collector, always looking for the final pieces of this set or those rare figurines. These two hobbies are the only times Misaki's been allowed to take control for herself, so she's always looking for time for them. As this also may imply, Misaki - not having been allowed to make decisions in her life - is near-incapable of making them for herself. Following in theme with her obedient and quiet demeanor, she often relies on others to make choices for her.

    Biography:

    Spoiler

Misaki comes from a family of magi who tend to keep to themselves, not caring for the affairs of other families as long as they're left to their own device. There is, however, an exception. Nobody's sure when it started anymore, but the Shirais and the Mercurys have been in a bitter feud for as long as either family can remember. This has manifested to various extents in various ways, but the important thing is that where one family is, the other is seldom far. This Holy Grail War is no exception. When the Shirai family heard the Mercurys were both arranging and participating in this Holy Grail War, they wasted no time contributing a magus of their own.

From a young age, Misaki has been regarded as a new hope for the otherwise-obscure and failing family. In addition to an obscene amount of magical circuits in her body, she picked up on magics of different elements and types with little effort. By all accounts within the Shirai family, Misaki is "an unstoppable force that will restore the family to its former glory." To keep her interested in the family's own ends, Misaki was groomed more like a weapon to point at their enemies than an actual person. An oppressively close eye was kept on her at all times, draining her of independance, backbone, and any sort of control of her life. The food she ate, magic she learned, even the person she'd love and one day marry, were all chosen for her.

    There was only one hitch.

Misaki never asked for any of this. Not to be born with such deep magic reserves, or to be raised as a weapon instead of a person, and especially not to participate in a Holy Grail War. It was all kind of just thrust upon her. But she's already here now, lacking the willpower to oppose her being sent to fight, and there's no going home until she's won it all.

    Magic:

    Spoiler

Although Misaki's been known to dabble in many forms of magic, she really shines when her magic relates to poison. Creating and firing off toxic liquids, poison clouds, and even conjuring poison weapons and familiars, are all her specialty magics. Misaki has also been noted to use water and earth-based magic for terrain control, as well as flesh-and-bone-themed magic for more immediate effects than poison. Her lack of confidence greatly holds her back, though.

“You’re selling yourself short.” Was Raven’s response as he produced his own duel disk from within his coat. “But if you really want to know the reason I sought you out…” he paused, “It should become clear as we play our game. Now, why don’t we go somewhere more spacious and less conspicuous?”

“Here’s fine. I’m on a bit of a time crunch right now, so I’d rather not go anywhere if it’s not along my way.” Kyouko nodded toward her opponent’s duel disk, not really eager to get the duel started so much as wanting to get it out of the way so she could get back to her day.

“That’s… a decision you might come to regret. But as you wish.” Raven again went into his coat, and Kyouko could see him fish out one of what appeared to be several decks from a series of pockets within, which was then promptly inserted into his active duel disk. As he did so, the sky over their heads began to take on the familiar magenta hue of duel space. “Ladies first.”

    “Alright then.”

    BGM

Kyouko drew her starting hand. Not that impressive, but she would probably be able to work with this. Probably. “I’ll start by setting one monster face-down, and ending my turn!” This deck wasn’t all that suited to taking the first turn, but she had something in mind.

“Underwhelming.” Raven said as he drew his own first card. “I suppose I’ll start with this.” He placed a monster card in attack position onto his duel disk. “This is Horus the Black Flame Dragon Level 4.” The silvery bird-dragon appeared in front of him, still, composed, and decidedly not animated.

    ATK: 1600

“And after setting a card face-down, we’ll go right into my battle phase. Horus,” His monster obeyed, taking flight and blasting Kyouko’s card with a jet of pitch-black flame. Kyouko could feel the heat, and stray embers singed the leaves from the trees nearby and scorched the grass. “I should warn you, I won’t be pulling any punches. Prepare yourself.”

“Spooky,” Kyouko commented, cold sarcasm clear in her voice as she reached to draw her card.

“Uh uh, not yet. Horus is a Level monster, and since it destroyed a monster this turn, it gets to level up.” Raven placed Horus Level 4 in his graveyard, and took Level 6 from his deck, placing it in the monster zone as the beast on the field disappeared into an orb of intensely hot black flame, emerging a few moments later larger, and with a longer wingspan.

    ATK: 2300

Kyouko drew her card after the overgrown chicken got even more overgrown. Two monsters and a bunch of spells. Just what she liked to see. “I activate two spells from my hand: Catalyst Field and Herculean Power! First, I’ll use the effect of Herculean Power. While you control a monster and I don’t, I can special summon a level four or lower gemini monster from my hand. I choose Blazewing Butterfly!” On the field in front of her, a butterfly with wings made of fire appeared.

    ATK: 1500

“Normally, gemini monsters are treated as normal monsters and don’t get effects unless you summon them again while they’re already on the field. But not if I activate the equip spell Supervise to it, to turn Blazewing Butterfly into an effect monster!” As Kyouko put her next spell down, the butterfly near her began to emit a red glow, signalling that its effect was primed and ready for use. “Which means I can use its effect, tributing itself to summon another gemini monster from my graveyard. I choose the monster you destroyed, Heavy Knight of the Flame!” The butterfly went up in a column of flame, singing the ground beneath it, only for it to be replaced by a burning skeleton in a chariot when the column subsided, having the same glow the butterfly had until just recently.

    ATK: 1800

“Even better, the monster summoned by Blazewing Butterfly’s effect becomes an effect monster. And because Supervise was sent to the graveyard when I tributed my butterfly, its effect also activates, letting me special summon a normal monster from my graveyard. I’ll take my butterfly back as well. I said you could take on the Duel Team for a challenge, but that doesn’t mean I’m a pushover myself.” Her deck was just a bit… old, was the only problem. But still perfectly functional.

“Were you a pushover my dear, I wouldn’t be interested in dueling against you. Now please, continue.”

“Maybe I will. Battle phase! I attack your dragon with Heavy Knight of the Flame, and activate its effect! If this monster attacks a special summoned monster like Horus, I can banish it!” The chariot burst into flame as it charged into Raven’s monster, opening a gate of fire behind the monster as it rammed into the dragon and pushed it through with it, before emerging from a similar gate back near where it had started the charge. “And that leaves you wide open to a direct attack. I attack with Blazewing Butterfly!” The butterfly lifted up its wings, and with a mighty flap, scattered handfuls of embers in Raven’s general direction.

    Raven: 8000 -> 6500

    “I end my turn.”

“Now that's what I was expecting.” Raven rather nonchalantly brushed a few embers off of his coat. “I draw.” He looked over his hand, as well as the trap card he’d chosen not to activate during the previous turn. Plenty to work with.

  10. Hv8FblW.png

He's still staring. Every since stepping out of the tower, Pyrrha could feel Damien staring at her. Judging her, maybe? She wasn't sure. Whatever the reason, it was making her uncomfortable, and it was tough to not turn around to check on just why he was looking at her so intently. For the time being, she tried to focus less on him, and more on these oddly-named knights. Something was up with some local minotaur tribes, there was a spooky island over on the lake or something, and there wasn't really a more detailed map of Qresa they had on them. Some of the minor details slipped her mind, as her attention kept inevitably swinging back to the fact that there was a guy with a rather big sword staring at her very intently, before she forced it back onto the knights.

"Don't worry about it," Pyrrha smiled. "A job's a job, after all. And you all seem to be doing a pretty good one with this bridge. Thanks for the information. We can probably find someone further in the island that can fill us in more on the details you're not sure about." Probably. Pyrrha glanced around to the other Chosen. "Right?"

  11. ksARFRH.png

    "Great job everyone~."

Ehehe, I didn't think I'd be praised for just screaming and headbutting a guy. Itsuki and Yuuka however, were not being praised. After the small-fry had been cuffed up, two not-so-small-looking-fry showed up. The guy looked pretty plain, and had a greivous lack of color. But that was okay, because the girl he brought with him more than made up for his lack of color. Her whole look was pretty gaudy, even by Hibiki's standards. Then there was a whoosh, and a POW!, and it seemed that Ms. Hitotsume - otherwise known as Demon Eye, who Hibiki had never heard of before - would be fighting the gaudy girl. Which left Hibiki and her fellow students with...

"While they're busy, why don't you guys see how you go up against a real thug?"

That guy. Itsuki seemed content to let the thug get the first hit instead. Herc, not so much. He rushed in, tried to punch the guy, but wound up on his back instead!

"Guys, be careful! I think his quirk turns him into Bruce Lee!"

    ...who?

"Oh, Hibiki, could you do that thing that you do super well?"

"I can do more than just scream you know," Hibiki sighed, followed by a deep breath. And then, at the top of her lungs, she cried out in a piercing voice,

"I'M SORRY IF I RUPTURE YOUR EAR DRUMS OR SOMETHIIIIIIIING!"

Like that? Hopefully whatever Yuuka had in mind, it would work. If everyone kept relying on her using these types of attacks, she'd much rather end the fight sooner than later, before her classmates eventually wound up going deaf too.

  12. fccpSmd.png

Waiting, waiting, waiting... Where was this guy? Sammi sat on the side of her mech, watching that weird one for the moment its cockpit opened. And then it did! The guy inside hopped out, and made straight for exiting the hangar. That was her target, and she wasn't about to let him get away that easily. Sammi got down from her own mech, skirting past the crowds of students who were content to just dawdle around in the hangar, and followed the person of interest out. There were some questions she had for him, and right now the weird build of his mech's hand was the least of her concerns.

Sammi glanced up and down the boy. Identifying features... hmm. Whatever race you are, you're not in my database. Not sure if that's a hole in the data or if KOWA really has never seen your kind before. Let's patch that hole up later.

Before she asked about this boy's race though, there was the ever-more-important issue. "Hey, you," she called out, not far behind him. "Would you mind explaining what that weird shield was you put over everyone's mecha out there?"

    hzxKAxh.png

"Thank you for the compliment, however I can't take much credit, I'm not used to walking around these... space ships. Especially when they're rocking around because of all the gunfire and nonsense. I tried to get there as fast as I could, but I only caught the tail end."

"Oh, don't worry. I'm not all that used to spaceships myself either." In fact, until leaving Colia, Vivian had never even set foot in a spaceship. Her first interplanetary 0flight was... an experience. She did get to meet a diplomat who had been visiting Colia though! That was a fun anecdote, but it would probably be rude to go off on a tangent about herself just like that.

"I CAN take credit for this beaut, however! You're looking at the Mourning Star! One of the first mechs designed with help from my people! It's a real powerhouse, and once I get better I'm sure to take the battlefield by storm with it!"

"Ohhhhhhh! That's super-cool!" Although... was that name spelt with or without a 'u' in it? And it was designed by her people? Like her race or something more specific? Vivian wanted to know more. Pointing over to her own mech, Vivian commented "Mine's just a standard military mech where I come from, and even then, it's not a very popular one. The name is pretty plain too. What people designed your Mourning Star if you don't mind my asking? Are mechs not very common where you're from?"

Oh! She'd almost forgotten the most important part!

"I'm Vivian, by the way. Vivian Marsh."

"Oh come on, are you trying to bore her to death?"

    What?

"Listen up. I don't know why Mauvache brought you in but don't forget that it's our job to beat you down. I don't want them to make you forget that...Buuuut, I also don't want that girl scout there making you think this place is as lame as she is either."

But... those are nice places to visit.

"Well, I did need to get some blood to drink."

Excuse me, some WHAT? Although, with a witch and a demon already among the current cast of fighters - among other things - maybe Ross was some sort of vampire? Would she be okay going out in broad daylight? Cyanthrax seemed to also think she was some sort of vampire. Maybe she was onto something after all. The suggestion of going out to see a movie, meanwhile, seemed much more agreeable than going out to drink blood or ale. It would've been nice to sit back for a couple hours... but Aurora and movie theaters didn't blend well. They were already a bit chilly inside, and keeping the human icebox in one place for too long would only make that worse.

But she really wanted to see the movie. She had an idea on how to have her movie and watch it, but there was a solid chance it wouldn't work out at all. But she really, really wanted to go to a movie theater. "A movie sounds fun!" she agreed. Cyanthrax didn't know what those were though. How could she explain that in a way he'd get? "They're like, uh... like watching actors on a stage I guess? But the stage is a big screen instead, and depending on what type of movie it is, there's lots of explosions and stuff." He probably liked explosions, right?

"...The first place I would start is taking over the old gang I was a part of. Position is power back in Hearthome, you can get more of the everyday folk to listen to you if you have the ability to protect them, that's what my dad used to say. Money lost some of its importance to them, but I could use it to bring food and things back to them, if I have the power to do it. There's no point in trying to focus on rebuilding as long as the gang wars are still going on... But then what would you start with?"

It was an interesting starting point. And it made sense. Although, Natsumi wasn't sure how to feel that Octavia's answer involved the gangs that were part of the problem in the first place. "I'd start with a means to quell those, myself. A new police force or something. Once the city is back in order, rebuilding everything should be much easier, starting with the city's infrastructure." That way, getting supplies around the city would be that much easier. It was like the difference between cleaning a house with a quiet and lazy cat, as opposed to one with a rowdy dog.

The important thing was that she'd gotten that question out of the way. There was one little comment though - it had been brought up just before Natsumi responded - that itched away at her mind, like a fly that keeps dancing just in and out of swatting range.

"There's no point in trying at all."

Natsumi shifted her gaze over toward the gloomy girl - Hotaru - who thought it was all pointless. There was a word for that kind of sentiment, but it was slipping her mind at the moment.

"She's got the right idea. What are we talkin' about?"

"I've been wanting to ask Octavia here what steps she'd take to fix Hearthome City all morning, and haven't really had a good opportunity until now. We were talking about that. Trying, however, is the backbone of civilization. If nobody tried to make things better for themselves and others, we'd still be in caves, wearing loincloths as bumbling hunter-gatherer tribes. Just stopping at 'trying' is pointless though. I'd rather continue past that, and get to the point of 'doing'."

"I could answer that for you, Kanon. Of course they work underwater!"

"Well, I guess you could use them underwater. Not the best chance to catch things though."

See? It's a good thing I asked after all. And them not working so well underwater probably meant...

"But you know, if you really wanna catch something down there, I've got a nice discount on Dive Balls. Three for 1400; a steal I'd say! I'm not actually supposed to give that deal to newcomers but you seem like good kids. But regardless of that, diving equipment, and the necessary guide to show you how it works and to go with, why that'll just take 50 Poke each for a few hours. Not so sure why you two want floaties as well but I can probably throw them in for another 10 Poke. Which means if you want the Dive Balls and the diving that'd be only 1510. I know, I know, I'm really just giving this away."

Yup. Kanon wasn't sure what the prices on these kinds of things usually looked like, but for three Dive Balls and the diving equipment, and a guide to help them out, that seemed like a pretty good price. While the lady behind the counter mused about what those Skrelp could be up to down there, Kanon was already digging into her pockets, pulling up every bit of cash she had on her person. She tallied it all up in her head... 740. Not quite enough.

    Uh-oh.

"Oswald... how much money do you have on you?" Kanon asked, clearly hesitant to drain any more pockets than necessary. It was probably good that she didn't cough up any money after getting beaten by those other two at the Battle Royale earlier.

"It does make sense to go halvsies." He said, reaching into his pockets and shuffling around the money. He pulled out 770 and handed it to Kanon. "That should be enough, right?"

"Just about, yeah. Thanks." Kanon took the collective money from herself and Oswald, and handed it all over. "It's a deal."

"I spy...oh, what do I spy here? Well, I can't say I expected them to come out of that place with someone so cute...The name's Damien. I'm the chaperone on this little adventure. And you are...?"

Who was this guy? He wasn't one of the Chosen, and claimed to be chaperoning them instead? They didn't seem like a group that needed looking after like that. This Damien guy wasn't making the best first impression to her. Scooting away from him a bit, Pyrrha replied "Pyrrha Varan, I'll be joining the rest of the Chosen as the new Chosen of Wind." Hopefully it was just a poor introduction and that was that.

"And these must be the Chosen we were told about. Greetings, Chosen, and welcome to Qresa!"

Following that warm greeting was a very... confusing dialogue. Pyrrha wasn't entirely sure which of these knights was which, what with those odd names making her unsure when they were talking about a word or a knight. Reinaan didn't seem to get it either. Following up on the questions from him and Ryia, Pyrrha simply nodded. She stepped up to the knights, and added "If you happen to have a more detailed map of the island to spare, that would also be appreciated."

    Appearance:

    Height: 5'2"
    Weight: 113 pounds

    Personality:

    Spoiler

Momoka isn't a perfect person, and she's aware of that. She's seen some messed-up things, done some herself, and isn't "the average girl" she'd be perfectly content to be. However, she's come to accept that, and instead of being "perfect" or even "normal" she's content to simply be "her best". To her, that means keeping her life steady and on the rails, and pursuing her dreams as a manga artist. To that end, Momoka is a young lady with a deep passion for manga, often reading some with her downtime if she isn't perfecting her own art. She's pretty keen on fiction in general, but manga in particular clicks with her, being both a girl who has a much better time processing information when she can see it and one who enjoys drawing.

Although not really one for the great outdoors, Momoka is a rather extroverted and social sort. She can come off as a bit stiff at first as she tries to get a feel for people, but it won't take long for her to loosen up a bit and enjoy the company of others. She also is a firm believer in treating others how she'd want to be treated. That means respecting opinions, encouraging people to stay on the straight and narrow, and being perhaps a bit too forgiving. Momoka generally tries not to linger on the past much, and as a result, will often pardon others when they wrong her, though she won't forget, especially if they frighten her in some way. Fear can shut Momoka down in mere moments, so she tries to avoid anything that can prompt it in her, and takes people deliberately scaring her very seriously.

    Biography:

    Spoiler

Momoka's life, for the most part, was painfully simple. She was raised primarily by her father, with her mother working long and hard at the office, having both an older and a younger brother as well as her parents. Although she was never a particularly amazing student in academic subjects, she had a real knack for art. It seemed as if Momoka was livinng the perfect schoolgirl life, what with the happy family, good living conditions, and awareness of what she wanted to do in life. It wasn't even unheard of for the family to go vacationing overseas.

One such vacation was what led to the birth of Momoka's shadow. On a flight to America, the plane had been caught up in a sudden and severe turbulence. Ultimately, the plane crashed, killing everyone on the flight except for three passengers and a flight attendant. In addition to the survivor's guilt from being the only one in her family lucky enough to survive the crash and multiple phobias that were birthed on the flight, Momoka was afraid and alone, having to stay in a country she barely understood the language of until a return trip to Japan could be arranged. The perfect target for a Shadow. Upon returning, Momoka was sent to live with her mother's parents. For the next couple months, she tried to drown out her fear with a hard-partying lifestyle under her Shadow's influence, throwing herself face-first into reckless indulgence as a coping mechanism, and finding herself in gradually worse company as a result. In a moment of clarity though, after realizing these parties were destroying her life, Momoka realized this wasn't the right way to fix herself.

She started seeing therapists. She started taking medicine. She did research online about ways to cure her phobias. Instead of panicking over the negatives or blotting it out with big parties in bad company, Momoka started using her art hobbies to help distract herself from frightening situations. It was a struggle at first, but after a few years fighting off those urges to let loose and drown herself in parties, she was able to finally stop taking therapy and medicine. While the damage couldn't be completely cured, Momoka had gotten herself back on the straight and narrow and overcome the bulk of her survivor's guilt, even if getting her phobias under control was proving to be a much greater challenge than fixing her lifestyle.

More importantly, taking back control of her life and self had awakened something inside Momoka. Specifically, a Persona.

    Misc. Info:

    Spoiler

The flight that took her family left Momoka with acrophobia, aerophobia, and ancraphobia, respectively the fears of heights, airplanes, and wind. Of the three, her acrophobia is the most under control, but even this can still be problematic.

Due to the period where Momoka was harboring a Shadow, her idea of what counts as a party is a bit exaggerated.

"The old man already told us. We don't need no looking after!"

Trevor sighed, shifting the two to keep them from falling, and slowed his movement. "Did...they really go up there?"

    Against normal common sense, yes.

    "He seems extra angry today..."

Well, that couldn't have been good. But helping meant having to climb all the way back up there again, and fighting Heatran would probably mean her costume getting scorched and burned all over the place, likely revealing the face beneath her hood. And nobody would be better off for that. It was probably best to just stay down here and help Trevor out if something else suddenly came up while everyone else was up there. So, Nani picked up the pace a bit, long enough to walk up along Trevor's side.

"What's his deal, anyway?" She hated to admit it, but Nani was pretty sure Alola's legends were the exception - not the rule - on being benevolent or not.

"Yeah, I'm still alive...Herissmon here didn't eat me, so apparently I'm not on the menu. Was actually just about to head back to meet you all."

    Herissmon?

"YOU!!" That must have been this Herissmon Chris was talking about. Hackmon once again moved behind Kokoro, moving around her legs as needed to keep her between him and Herissmon. "You lied to me again! You told me they were gonna make me a pin-cushion if I got cornered! Chris over there told me differently..." Herissmon? Hackmon? There must have been something important about the -mon suffix tying these two together.

"As long as everyone's alright..." At least, everyone seemed pretty alright. Uninjured if nothing else. Before she could round everyone up and get the hell out of here though, she heard a loud rumbling from the far wall. Connor was over there. What did he do to cause that? More importantly, he was heading into the deep dark tunnel that had appeared.

"Huh... it seems the next stage is afoot. Be wary, Frimon..."

And Minamizawa was following him! Without any time to waste, Kokoro made for the tunnel, grabbing the boys by the shoulders firmly. "Hold it," she said. "Where do you two think you're running off to by yourselves?"

I'm not familiar with Aurelio Voltaire (at least, I don't think so, but the part that kicked in at 0:43 sounded really familiar), but that's a really solid song. Also, I like that album art because it almost looks like he's got Kamina shades on. 8/10

So I got into Dragalia Lost a few weeks ago because of the FEH collab (and ironically enough it helped me finally drop FEH since that game's sort of been going slowly downhill for awhile), and I love the soundtrack, which seems to generally be considered one of the game's strong points. This is the fight theme for one of the raid bosses and I really like it.

Also, I dunno if it's on accident or if there's something I'm missing but you didn't seem to actually give my past submission a rating, it's just /10.

That was an accident. I usually write "x/10" on submissions if I know what to post myself before I'm done rating everything else, then swap it out for a number after listening. Must've skipped half that step somehow when I was playing Smash Bros. It was a 7/10.

    This one's also a 7/10.

OP's suggestion. Let's post a more standard-sounding Voltaire song to follow up on Sellout with.

    8/10

  21. OP's suggestion 2 because I simply don't want to wait to share this one.

I've been getting back into Voltaire, and this played while I was playing some League of Legends. I had to do a double take when I heard the music for a bit like "I'm still on Voltaire, right?" then go back to listen to it more closely when I was done gaming. This is definitely not the type of thing he does ever, but he nailed it. 10/10
