    Day 8, 8:00, Park
    Points: 61

    W/L Record: 3/3

"Running really fast, huh? Why am I thinking you've seen and or had experience at that hero school about something like that?"

"Not that comes to mind," Aurora answered, thinking really hard about the people she met at Mar-Vell. Technically August could be a pretty fast guy, but that was more by making massive leaps with his strong legs than by actually being able to run super fast. Speed-type Fragments were pretty common though, right? Maybe? She sure thought they'd be common anyway, judging by how often heroes in old comic books had super speed.

"Oddly enough, finding the source of your power in our last fight was actually my intention. I was buying time for my Surveillance-Bots to give me some information. VEX, can you display an image of the bots? These were a work of my own that I had put into my MOVA and use them for a number of things. However, I was using them in our fight to figure out how to fight you...as well as get a general idea of our battlefield. Unfortunately, things were a bit complicated."

Those bots were pretty cool too. Gavin could probably pass that MOVA off as a really weird Vessel back home, come to think of it.

"It's all up here," she grinned, tapping her finger against her temple. As Aurora started toward a different part of the park - staying in one spot for too long was ill-advised with her Fragment - she continued "That's where my power is. How much cold do I put out, what about wind, and most importantly, what do I make with my ice? It's all stuff I have to think about when I use my power. I'm only limited by my imagination!" As if to make a point, Aurora cupped her hands together in a ball shape that left some room between them. When she lifted her top hand, a tiny ice sculpture of a goat was resting in her other hand. It was a bit rough, and the horns were a bit off, but it was still easily identifiable as a goat.

"I use my hands a lot when I'm fighting though. It helps me visualize what I want to do... kinda like a painter I guess? But I don't need them. As long as I can think, I can fight. What about you? I'm guessing most of your power comes from that MOVA thingy?"

It was then, however, that her watch beeped. And so did Gavin's! Something must have been going on.

    To: All
    From: Ross

Hey. I'm new to this arena thing and the boss told me to do some kind of meet and greet with you all. So, yeah. I'm Ross. I'm at the arena right now. Hi.

A new fighter? There sure were a lot of roster changes going on around here, weren't there? "Actually, hold on that. We should go meet this Ross girl. We've got no time to waste!" And so, despite having just gotten to this nice change of scenery so recently, Aurora hurried back toward the Arena. She had to head that way today anyway.

"I'm Marie, and I was sent by your dad to make sure you're alright. And you clearly aren't!"

    "You talked to daddy?"

"Who cares! We can talk about that AFTER we beat up Heatran."

    "Yeah! After!"

"No, we'll talk about it now! Your father was worried about you and Allie, and we're here to make sure that you don't do anything stupid or dangerous and - get this stupid storm off of me! Now climbing in the rain is very dangerous, so stop and get down here."

Well, Marie sure did do that. Climbing in the rain was - as she noted - rather dangerous. Would Nani even be able to still reach them? Their little arms and legs would probably have a harder time climbing up than hers, but they were still right there near the top. With a bit more caution, Nani continued upward, giving Marie a quick thumbs-up as she went along her way. WIth the little ones coming closer into view, Nani added her own comment to follow up on Marie's demands.

"He won't be able to fight his best in the rain anyway, probably. If you only do this once, do you really want to blow it by not getting the full experience? He'll be there some other time. Come down and talk with us. We've got a job, and you're making it pretty tough."

Another day, another duel. That was something she'd overheard earlier today. Fitting enough she supposed, since today was supposed to be the Entertainment Duel Club's first meeting. She didn't really have much interest in showing up, but it wasn't like she had much else planned today anyway. There were certainly worse things she could be doing. Like still not finding that stalker freak, because of whom she'd been checking behind corners and stuff far more than she liked. She probably looked crazy. But, two weeks later, there was still no sign of the guy.

    Maybe he forgot?

Sure enough though, just after she had that pleasant thought to herself, the man himself jumped down, landing a few feet in front of her.

"Ahh the lovely miss Kyouko. I trust you've been preparing for our duel? Or perhaps, maybe, you were hoping I'd forgotten about it over the past week?"

"Would've preferred if you did," Kyouko scoffed under her breath. Rolling up her sleeves to reveal her Duel Disk, and fishing into her pocket for her deck - she'd been carrying those around quite a bit lately, in case of precisely this situation - she said "I've got places to be, so let's make this quick. You could have dueled any of the Duel Team's members if you wanted a challenge, so why me specifically? What are you trying to get out of this?"

As she put her deck into the Duel Disk and activated it, she added "Whatever it is, don't expect to pry it out of me so easily."

The club meeting was probably starting about now, too. Of course her mystery stalker had to swoop in just in time to make her late for that.

At Fast Food, meanwhile, things weren't looking so peachy either. Jo tapped her thumb on the counter, looking at her part-timer who'd been all out of whack today. This wasn't right.

"Alright Yushiro, out with it. What's got you in such a knot that you're acting like this?"

It would appear so. Whoops. If memory serves I was pretty out of it all Tuesday so that's a solid mb.

8/10, wouldn't sound out of place in a Kirby game.

Well, it worked. The panel fell from the ceiling, revealing not one, but three creatures. One was stuck on its back, helplessly flailing about while poor Connor who happened to be in the wrong place at the right time was pinned down by the apparently heavy creature who had landed on him. She could come back to help him out later. Right now, the other two were getting away. Nudging Chris with her elbow, Kokoro pointed to the hedgehog-like one and said "You get that one. I'll grab the guy with the hoodie." And with that, she went off, chasing after the more menacing looking of the two creatures, right into the kitchen. Where it seemed to have disappeared.

    Must be hiding somewhere.

Kokoro looked around. It was a small thing, so finding it would probably prove to be a challenge. Or so she thought. It probably would have been a challenge, if not for one of the cables she recognized as sticking out from its back, sticking out from one of the cabinets. Kokoro opened it swiftly, then grabbed the creature by its hand, holding it up in front of her. As it tried to wiggle free of her grip, Kokoro only tightened her grasp on the creature, before bluntly asking "Got anything to say for yourself?"

"I'm not afraid of a stinky human like you!"

"'Stinky?' Now you're just making this personal." Creature in hand, Kokoro looked around through the drawers in the kitchen, before finding what she was looking for. A steak knife. "You shouldn't talk to someone who's armed and has you in this position like that."

"I-I'm sorry!" it pleaded, the tough persona it had put up suddenly dropping. "I won't do it again! Calling you stinky or stealing the food!"

"Good. Now, I've got some questions for you, and I expect you to answer them honestly."

However... you don't have to be afraid of them to. You might find a good friend if you just sit down and talk to one,

...fine. Let's give it a shot. "This is going to sound stupid, but have you considered working with humans instead of slinking around in the shadows?"

    "...no?"

    "Do you want to?"

The creature paused in its struggle, suddenly seeming to think particularly hard on the question Kokoro had posed. "It... sounds easier than what I'm doing. You'll share your food, right?"

"We can arrange that. It's settled then. I don't trust you creatures, but from now on, you're with us." Kokoro set the creature down on the floor, before asking one final question as she made for the door. "What am I supposed to call you, anyway?"

    "Hackmon."

"Weird name. Mine's Kokoro." This still felt like a stupid idea to her. But she was already past the point of no return now. Best to just roll with it at this point.

Well, some friendly fire aside, Sammi would call that attack on the Bandito (1) a success. Her human companion seemed insistent that she'd had it covered on her own, though. While Sammi thought up a response to that claim, her mech took a laser shot. The mech seemed undamaged for some reason. It must have been something that bizarre mech on her team did. She'd have to do some research on that thing in particular, and the boy piloting it. In that moment of curiosity though, bigger issues suddenly appeared. Namely, a pair of harpoons sticking through Sammi's mech, dragging it down to be on level with everyone else. Not good.

Even worse, she was being shot at from what was now a disadvantageous position. However, there was nobody between her and the guy shooting her this time. And so, Sammi opened fire with the gatling guns again, being able to get more precise hits in with the shorter distance. In the meantime, she began charging the cannons on her mech, fully intent on crippling the enemy mech's arms then finishing it off. One healthy target was preferable over two injured ones, after all.

Unsurprisingly, Nomi wasn't sure what to do with herself. Jacklyn and Ivan had some suggestions, which was more than Kanon could say at least.

    "To 'venture!"

It's something. Like Jacklyn had said, she could figure out a more solid goal while she was adventuring about. As the sun set over the horizon, the ferry's destination came into view. Another port town, although what this place lacked in fish smell, it made up for with that hustle-bustle metropolitan feeling Kanon didn't like. The disembarking was put off a bit as she and Oswald worked to get Nomi off the boat and back onto soild land, but they were here all the same. Kanon looked at her map. It was a bit rough, but seemed about right for a port city, if her brief time in Slateport was anything to go by.

"You probably feel a bit more at home in this kind of setting, don't you?" Kanon couldn't help but comment to Oswald. There were definintely bigger cities, but this whole big-city buzz feeling still made her skin crawl.

    "Oh yeah...the world is bigger."

Nomi didn't seem to mind, though.

"That's right. The world is really, really big. We might as well figure out what we're doing in this little slice of it." Nudging Oswald with her elbow, Kanon added "Counting on you here, city boy."

    "You're a riot!"

"It's a habit! Whenever I'd go somewhere I'd buy one ticket for me and one for my sister and it just sorta... happened."

"Well, no sense wasting your ticket. How'sabout letting me hang with you? Like a bodyguard detail!"

    "Mm! Sounds good!"

"I'll even work pro bono! Let's exchange digits. We'll meet up whenever you wanna go. And I ain't gonna take no for an answer, Hibi..."

But I wasn't going to turn you down anyway. Still, at least that second ticket was being put to use. As much of a shame as it was that she'd bought it on accident, it would have been way worse if she didn't bring anyone with her, effectively wasting her money . Plus, she'd have someone on the train with her for the ride. It would be a lot less lonely with someone sitting there talking to her in person than if her only form of communication was texts.

Days had come and gone, and Friday was now upon Class 1-B. Tomorrow at noon-ish, Hibiki had a train to catch, and then she'd have to get the one back on Sunday. In theory, she could have just left earlier and been back at the U.A. dorms around dinnertime, but two train rides in one day sounded like a bit much for her. But that was tomorrow. Today, Ms. Hitotsume had a look on her face that seemed like she had something planned. Or at least, that was what Hibiki thought it looked like from here.

"Claaaass~! Before your introduction into real Hero work, we're going to do something real fun today! We're having Quirk Evaluations today! Not everyone in the class knows the extent of each other's quirks are, and I only know the Quirk itself! But I want to see you push it in today's exam!"

Yup, she was up to something today. Quirk examinations. This would have been a lot more fine if her wings weren't so sore. She'd been exercising them like a madwoman all week, and the toll was real. The class was brought out to the field, and there, three tests had been set up. A punching bag to measure strength. Hibiki was never all that strong, but that was okay. A target range. She couldn't fire projectiles of any sort by just screaming at them. This wasn't some fighting game. The obstacle course, however, seemed more her pace. She was nimble, and incredibly difficult to tire out due to her Quirk. Valerie stepped up first. She got through it pretty quickly! Even at the other tests, she looked like she was doing a pretty good job! Then Yuudai was up, passing through the first two obstacles and shooting at some of the targets, before suddenly stopping. They sure were weird-looking muscles he had. But in a cool kind of way! He said it had to do with his muscles. Itsuki and Lesnar also stepped up to the plate, faring well enough for themselves

Hibiki removed the sunglasses from her face, squinting as the full light of the sun hit her eyes. And then closing them entirely. Turning toward Misu, she asked "Can you hold these for just a bit?" before taking off for the obstacle course, leaving them in her care as she ran forward toward the ramp. Hibiki opened her mouth, letting out supersonic waves to keep track of where the obstacles all were. She climbed up with little issue with a bit of help from a hefty flap of her wings giving her a small boost up, and while she did stumble a bit or have trouble with some obstacles, what mattered was that Hibiki - with enough effort - got through the whole thing. With her eyes closed. And looking not at all out of breath. She hurried back around the course to grab her sunglasses, leaving Misu with a quick "Thanks~" as she ran over toward the punching bag.

This would be the lesser of two problematic tests. Probably. Hibiki punched the bag, waiting for her score. It was about what one would expect from an average girl, at best. I am curious though, since I've been exercising them a lot all week...

Hibiki turned as if she was going to leave the punching bag, before suddenly striking it with one of her wings. Hopefully that was allowed. Hibiki looked at the score with anticipation... before cheering herself on! It still wasn't an impressive number, but it was a considerably higher score than her fists had gotten! Which left the targets. ...how am I even supposed to hit those? Hibiki opted to skip that part. "Sensei, I can't hit the targets. After everyone else tests their Quirks, is it okay if I substitute it with a decibel measurement for how loud I can scream with my Quirk?"

Hibiki awaited her answer before returning to the other students.

"We're gonna go fight Heatran and nobody gonna stop us!"

And then, the kids whipped up a sandstorm behind them, making climbing a bit more difficult. Aside from the sand lashing against Nani - though her hood thankfully kept her face clear of sand - she couldn't really see anything. And so, Nani scurried upward just a bit more, then to the side, placing herself next to Marie, upwind. Hopefully she could help at least keep the sand out of Marie's face while she was climbing by just being in its way. If those kids thought nobody could stop them, they had another thing coming. They were, after all, just kids.

"Nice city. isn't it?" Nani asked, obvious sarcasm in her voice.

  11. jVtc2ZL.png

"...ever the determined one, aren't you? Still, if that's the case, how's this? We entertain your idea...buuuuuuut we're also grabbing some spare food as well. The best of the two plans and which can meld together to build a new one. How's that sound?"

Of course. If we find any.

"So why are we trying to befriend one of these... imps? We're not negotiating with these beasts. That said, I think it's a good idea to scope the place out for food. Better than starving in here."

"Right? It's nice to be positive about making friends with these things, but I'm not buying it."

"Maybe Mr. Henderson is right. Maybe we don't have to capture one... Maybe we can convince it to help us? Give it a little bit of food so we can stop a bunch of them? Maybe then it'd tell us willingly what exactly is going on... if they know themselves. I don't know, really. It's hard to figure out what's best if we don't know much about them. I-"

It was then that Kokoro heard some sort of yelling from outside, instinctively getting up to her feet in response. Seemed ilke Romy had heard it too, as she - along with Kokoro - went out into the hallway to see what was up. And there they were met with Theodore Oswald Shaw Dreifus. Er... Theodore Shaw Oswald Dreifus? Shaw Dreifus Oswald? Why did this guy have four names anyway? Ah, Theodore Oswald Dreifus Shaw, that was it! Must be a western thing. I'm glad I've only met one person with four names.

"Yellling? Moi. No, it was Conner spooked by a phantom in the mirror that distressed him so. Quite the peculiar thing too, resembling some form of art. While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. “’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door— Only this and nothing more”. Great gadzooks girl, it's merely some thumping. Really now. It's probably something much like the imps or that one tadpole I saw getting curious above, or perhaps they are playing a prank? Seems likely with how light the thumping is. Though if it concerns you so, then fear not! For I, your noble knight, shall protect the princess from the fearsome dragon!"

"Get ready to do some defending then, Mr. "Noble Knight,"" Kokoro commented, removing the shoe from her right foot, and looking up at the ceiling where the thumping was. There was definitely something up there, and it probably wasn't human. One of those creatures probably, like Shaw had said. And then, without much in the way of warning, Kokoro cast her arm back, then shot it upward, throwing the shoe at the thumping spot with all she had, hoping to knock the ceiling panel loose. If there was one thing Kokoro learned with her foster family here, it was that few weapons were more rightly terrifying than a thrown shoe.

"Well, I'm more favorable of the right hand, but I can go back and forth between the two. Well Snow Angel, have at it."

"Oh, we're not fighting. It's our day off, after all." Curling her right hand up into a fist, then slowly moving it forward and to Gavin's left, Aurora continued "I was just gonna tell you that if you know whether your opponent's a leftie or a rightie, you should stay juuuuust on the side with their dominant hand when you can, like diagonally from them. From here, the best I could do with my hand is a weird reverse-hook type punch deal. Sure I can just swing with my left hand, but it wouldn't be as bad as if I hit you with my right."

Did that all make sense? It did in her head, but she wasn't sure if the message was as clear out loud. Although, now that she thought about it some more, wouldn't being on the fringe of Gavin's dominant-handed side also mean he was on the fringe of hers? Maybe that advice was best suited for lefties. Of course, this advice also didn't account for things like superpowers or 26th-century technology that was still blowing her mind a bit as she tried (and failed) to figure out in her head how it all worked.

"The important thing I learned at hero school though is, find the source of their power, and disable it. Like if you're fighting somebody who runs really fast, try to make their legs useless."

  13. I've been doing some lab work on Joker combos (not my strong suit as a Ganondorf main in the midst of an identity crisis) because he's just that much fun to play. It's not a true combo or anything, but I've labbed out a string (made up of a few tiny true combos) that does about 50% damage, and works on all characters at especially low percents. The whole string (aside from the up-B in here) is actually a true combo at 0% against Bowser and Fox though. I did some additional testing against Pac-Man (the best training dummy don't @ me) to see when it stops working in as straightforward a way as I made it, and it seems to stop working normally extremely early, before 20%. I was able to get the string as high as 80% (including damage-over-time from a side-b tossed in there), but for several reasons, everything after the 50% mark was pretty impractical.

So, here's what I labbed out. May it give you sick grab combos at 0%. I'll put one of -> # <- these next to any move that doesn't true combo from the one before it.

    down throw
    forward air
    down tilt#
up air (try to short-hop this, or at least stay as close to the ground as you can)
    up-B#
    forward air

and if you want to go even further beyond for the full 80%, follow that up with...

side-B# (relies on your opponent not using the massive double-jump window they have after the last forward-air; will see if I can figure out an aerial follow-up to the above tomorrow)
forward air# (timing on this is pretty tight)
    dash attack# (see above)

The full 80% string doesn't work in any practical scenario though because unless you're very specific about when you land the down-tilt in there, then reverse your up-B, it covers more ground than any stage provides. Not to mention the massive window of escape your opponent has before your side-B. I haven't tested this on every character, but I did test it on the lightest (Pichu) and heaviest (Bowser) and was able to get the full 80 on both of them in the training room. This shit took me like an hour if I include some games I played with friends to get a feel for Joker before labbing the hell out of this combo.

  14. Shao Kahn's been revealed today. This is what you get if you pre-order the game. And as someone who lives to flex on other people in video games, I hate it. Because I love it. Because that means now I have to pre-order the game so that I can flex on people. He has taunts.

"Whatever you say squirt! I'm sure you'll have the baddies quivering in their seal leather boots!"

"It's true! My Quirk still needs some work, but I can take on some bad guys just fine!"

"Hibiki did good. She screamed. A lot."

    I trusted you!

"N-Not like, panic screaming, but like... like a... super scream! Yeah. She held her own against that one girl we met too."

That's more like it. "See? I've got this!"

"You ever thought about joining a gang, Hibi? Just kiddin'!"

She sure did think Hibiki was a funny sort. But maybe it could be worse? At the very least, it felt like she'd gotten on Misu's good side somehow, between "standing up to her" back on exam day and now being the butt of her jokes today. But she still couldn't help but feel like she wasn't taking Hibiki seriously when she said she could handle herself. She opened her mouth to retort, but Misu already seemed to have settled down. And was looking at the form she had to bring home.

"I'll have no prob getting a signature from my mom...My dad's kinda got a thing against me going here...doesn't really trust the government."

"He's one of those conspiracy theory types?"

"Guess I'll have to keep it from him, huh?"

"Guess so. I have to take a long train ride home this weekend to get this form to my parents, then take the train back before school starts again on Monday. It's a bit of a drag, but it'll be so exciting to show them I made it in person!" She understood parents that didn't like Quirks and stuff, of course. She even had some of those herself. But, Hibiki counted herself lucky enough to have a family whose love for their kid outshone their feelings about Quirks, heroes, and the whole deal with all that.

In fact, she was so excited to get going, that she just had to get her ticket now! Without a moment's hesitation, Hibiki whipped out her phone, going online and setting up to buy a ticket. Only to immediately look at her phone with a shocked expression once she confirmed her purchase.

"...I bought two tickets on accident."

  16. "Hi~! I've come to join the club~!"

"Hey! I'm Noboru Shun. I'm more of the...well, the captain here just calls me 'The Red One', so I guess that's a good thing."

"Welcome! I'm Ichigo Shimada, just a regular old club member. Though I do handle a lot of repair to damaged parts if something breaks in a fight." Amane - that was the new girl's name, unless Ichigo had heard her wrong - went on to describe her Gunpla. It looked and sounded like she'd put a lot of work into it! She was happy to see other people took to custom models to the same extent she did. "It's a really nice model," she complimented, taking in all the little details of the custom gunpla. Now she didn't feel as awkward about having one as custom as she did.

Though Amane's parts were still sourced from existing gunpla. Setting down her own gunpla across the table from Amane's, Ichigo explained "I also use a custom model, though I didn't do much of the work on it; just some prettying up here and there. This is Number 2, which my father built after my last Gunpla, um... broke. Completely. Everything was made custom from the ground up as far as I can tell, though I like to work on other custom models in my spare time." Just sculpting parts, though. Even so, Ichigo did have something in mind for a custom gunpla that was actually functional. She just had to work out the technical stuff with it.

    "Huh...that, actually sounds pretty interesting."

"Quite the tale and quite the interesting power, Miss Burns."

And VEX was back too! His remark about "something coming up in his data crunching" felt kind of off to Aurora, but she couldn't quite put a finger on why. Maybe it was just his phrasing. It sounded a bit awkward. Gavin then went on to explain just what a MOVA was. Maybe it was the breakfast still settling in her stomach, but for some reason, her first thought was that it could pass off as some sort of coffee.

"Well, most of the tech I've dealt with is from the year of 2560. Sooo, that's probably one thing that's different for ya, cause that's probably a year you'd only hear from a sci-fi movie. One of the things you saw me use in our fight was this. It's known as a MOVA, short for, Multi-Objective Vocational Armament. And...well, let's just call it a future Swiss Army knife."

"2560!?" Aurora remarked. That was way, way off in the future. She knew there were old cartoons like the Jetsons that took place a few decades in the future, but this was five whole centuries! The MOVA, Gavin concluded, also could be upgraded in various ways on a user-by-user basis. That really did sound like some sort of super-future Swiss Army knife. Seeing it and having it explained to her made Aurora pretty excited for future technology. "And here I thought the stuff back home was cutting-edge."

Although, to be fair, her world did have rampant superpowers running around. Gavin didn't show any signs of something like that, so maybe it all evened out?

The walk-and-talk had been pretty informative, and before long, Aurora found herself at her destination. A nice little natural park. It was no Central Park - she'd visited that place once or twice during her time at Mar-Vell - but it was certainly pretty. It was good to see some natural greenery again, after having spent so much time running about in the big urban city. How big IS this city anyway?

"Aaaand we're here!" Maybe a sparring match in a nice public place like this wasn't the best idea. Other people were here too; one of them could have gotten hit by a stray attack from either one of the combatants, and Aurora wouldn't be able to just instantly recover like the arena battles let her. "And now it's time for me to teach you some things," she said, putting herself in front of Gavin at about arm's length. "By the way, are you a leftie or a rightie?"
