  1. I hate that I'm going to say this due to my unironic love-hate relationship with the already excessively praised game, but Elden Ring for sure. I've had a lot of fun with it despite its glaring flaws, and I really enjoy helping people in co-op, random or otherwise.

  2. Hector had had time to kill today, which was incredibly convenient since today was the day he and four others would officially become a team. He felt genuinely excited even if his face was currently hidden by Steelswarm Moth’s intense but rather blank expression. After all, one of the initial reasons Hector had signed up for Battle Horizon was to meet fellow duelists and eventually form a social group in his new home of Japan- even if only online. He neglected to do so, though, becoming more caught up in the single-player and story-related content. Sure, he would interact with other players every so often, dueling and socializing, and was active enough with others to be recognizable if you hung around the same places he did. Hector even got an invite from a clan or two, but usually he would just feel out of place and uncertain if it was even necessary to join a clan with how long he had been playing solo.

“I’ll join a clan once I’ve gotten more experience,” Hector would tell himself, which naturally caused the plan to constantly get pushed back due to Hector’s subtle perfectionism. When Royal Flush fell apart, however, and especially when KaibaCorp announced the new superboss event, he decided it was finally time to do what he originally set out to do: join a clan. There was certainly no shortage of new clans now; dozens popped up each day as seemingly everyone desired to be the next hottest clan by taking down the superboss.

“I guess I really have no excuse not to join with a group anymore,” Hector thought. “A brand new clan won’t have a ‘subculture’ to learn and acclimate to, and it more than likely won’t have any strange trials or hazings to pass. Fine. It’s well past time.”

So, Hector looked. He would casually wander through Battle Horizon’s world, observing those individuals and groups who caught his attention. His Battle Horizon pet, a curious monster named Steelswarm Scout, had actually ended up being rather helpful in this search, essentially acting as a second pair of eyes and excitedly flying towards something that would catch his attention. It was a… somewhat slow process at first. There were a LOT of people to sift through, so Hector decided to focus on first impressions: appearances, how they carried themselves, how they spoke when he would approach them, and of course, how they would duel if he came across them in the middle of a duel. Not long after that, he met Teimei.

Hector’s notice of Teimei was as good as it could have been. She looked like a swordstress from a cyberpunk future, a neat and sleek design Hector felt stood out from many of the other players and was immediately fond of. Her demeanor, while not “unfriendly”, was cold and austere, befitting her look well and her status as a potential team leader. Hector couldn’t help but already feel respectful of her, “familiar” too, given his exposure to similar people throughout the business world. Last, but certainly not least, Teimei seemed skilled in dueling. Her profile listed many wins outweighing her losses, and when Hector first met her, she had actually been in the middle of a duel. Well, more like the end of it, as her Shiranui samurais had quickly burned through her opponent’s defenses and lifepoints after some cleverly executed plays.

“I think… I think she’ll be a good one. Hopefully she’ll be as good a leader as she impresses.”

They had talked, exchanged messages, and Hector’s entrance into her fledgling clan was that. They only had to meet today around 2 PM to make the clan official. He logged on early to avoid potentially missing his meetup with the others, and so far had been killing time by people watching. Activity was certainly still as high as it had been when the superboss was announced, and Hector was enjoying looking at the way other players had designed themselves to look in-game. He… also made a habit of eavesdropping on conversations. Steelswarm Scout also seemed to be enjoying the boisterous activity, flying constantly from place to place in search of new interactions to observe. Every so often, some of the players he would spy on would have pets of their own, and a small, entertaining game of tag, “stealing”, or scuffle would ensue.

Eventually, Hector had lost track of time, and he was getting slightly impatient to finally meet with the others. From among the other team of players, mostly mingling among themselves save for the robot-looking player who was busy dealing with the NPC in the room, one of their number stood up. He was a man of pale skin, and considerable height. An intricate tattoo adorned his neck, and his attire wouldn't look out of place in any real-life setting of today. The tall man gave Hector a nod of acknowledgement.

    "Yo. Neat cape."

Hector smiled behind his Moth’s visage, and nodded his head in appreciation to make his reaction more obvious.

"Thanks," he said, flourishing the wing-like tapestry behind him. "Maybe one day I'll actually be able to use these 'wings' as actual wings on here, but until then, I think they make a fine adornment."

Hector looked over the man more keenly now, checking out his own attire. He looked... fairly casual compared to many of the other players around, even the group he had come from. The one distinguishing feature he did have, though, was an intricate tattoo on his neck. Normally, Hector wouldn't have been fond of tattoos so close to the face, but seeing how this was technically a game still...

"Interesting tattoo design. I don't think I recognize it as the symbol for any monsters. Does it mean anything?"

"Dunno, actually. It's the same as what I've got on my real neck, I just thought it looked neat. Looks like I'm not the only one."

"Ah, I see," Hector replied. Even in real life, it was difficult to discern Hector's internal reactions beyond what he deliberately allowed, but he was still thankful of having Moth's visage active to cover up any potential negative expressions. A neck tattoo in real life? Rather... distasteful in his opinion.

Still, it wasn't like it was an obscene design, and it really was rather eye-catching in a more positive way. More importantly, the man had been cordial to him, and if there was one thing Hector enjoyed, it was compliments.

"Well, maybe you can go back to where you got the tattoo from and ask. It would be interesting to hear about its background."

Hector looked back to where the man had come from, paying closer attention to what seemed to be his teammates. A pink-haired girl with a rather stern expression caught his eye, and Hector couldn't help but give a small chuckle at the contrast.

"Are those your teammates? Are you guys just forming your group too?" He asked. "Oh, and what's your name?"

"Yep, that's the squad over there. Team Rising Star, the boss said we'd be called, since the plan is to rise up to the top and all. Me, I'm just here for a good time. You can call me Max, or you can use my username of Viator, I don't really mind either way."

Nodding toward those among Hector's teammates that had assembled in the building, Max asked in return "That your team?"

"Not a bad name all things considered," Hector replied, "Though- and maybe I shouldn't be encouraging the 'competition' and all- but it'll definitely take work to live up to that name."

Hector's attention briefly turned towards a rather loud and boisterous group proudly proclaiming their presence and intent to be "better than Team Royal Flush".

"Some certainly deserve a title more than others," he said, his Moth visage clearly glaring.

    "Anyway, I'm 9Inversions, though I guess you can call me... 9? It's a mouthful, I know."

Hector followed Viator's nod. He laughed.

"Ha, yeah. And I showed up early to be one of the first ones present, but it looks like they all beat me to it."

Hector turned back towards Viator and extended his hand. Perhaps a very formal gesture in this world, but old habits die hard.

"It was good to meet you. Maybe we'll see each other later. You and the rest of your team."

"Good meeting you too, 9. I'm sure we'll see each other again before long, if we're walking the same path and all."

They parted ways after that, and Hector quickly set out to meet his new teammates. He felt… somewhat shy, oddly enough, despite being no stranger to interviews, formal meetings, and the like. Perhaps it was the novelty of the occasion, or maybe it was excitement manifesting as “nervousness”. Regardless, Hector brushed off the feelings and strode confidently towards the others, his cape flowing elegantly behind him as his pet Steelswarm chittered after him to catch up. The Scout grabbed onto his shoulder, resting atop it as Hector waved with the opposite arm.

“Good afternoon,” Hector called out, his yellow eyes already examining them. It looked like they had all just gotten here, with nothing “official” underway yet.

“Funny how you all technically got here before me; I’ve been lurking around Blue City for the past hour or so.”

Hector billowed his cape, taking care that it wouldn’t become messy and wrinkled as he sat down and waited for their meeting to begin.

"Thank you all for coming. I know we don't all have to be here for the charter being submitted, but we're going to be working together from now on, so I'd like us to all take the first step together, as a unit. Additionally, I'd like to ask everyone a couple of questions, as a group. We're all a team now, and as such, we should make decisions as a team. With that in mind, I'd like to hear any suggestions you may have for a team name. And, also as a team, I'd like to know what you all think is the most important thing that makes a team successful. Not because I plan to copy others who have risen to success, but because I want us to blaze our own trail to victory, and eventually to that mystery boss everyone's getting ready for."

Hector waited to speak, wanting to gauge the other members’ behaviors and ideas before offering anything of his own. The first to speak was Ivy9d, and her behavior was… definitely exuberant, confident, albeit maybe a tad too excessive on the display of eagerness. At least she was invested, and an interested cooperator was definitely a much more reliable and useful teammate than someone who cared little or only for niche things in an endeavor. Her ideas were actually pretty decent too. Aside from those details, Hector liked her name, thinking it sounded cool, and it coincidentally also had a 9 in it like his. Her black suit reminded him of the Evilswarms’ black carapaces, though judging by her name and more notably, the sword she so proudly brandished and leaned on, she probably wasn’t a fellow lswarm user.

“Likely a plant user judging by her name and her sword’s branch-like design. Good individual theming; I can appreciate that,” Hector thought to himself. Steelswarm Scout also seemed to have taken an interest in her sword, and slid off Hector’s shoulder to get a closer look at it.

Then was… Crimson_Star. Oh man, Crimson_Star. Hector said nothing, but his posture did shift. He crossed his legs and leaned upon the armrest next to him, tilting his head to rest upon his hand as the nobleman went on and on about records and skill and even longer about “simple game mechanics”.

“So… ‘extra’,” Hector thought with a hidden smirk, “Clearly trying way too hard to evoke a sense of refinement and intelligence. And I thought Ivy had been trying to show off.”

His eyes glanced over Crimson’s attire. Hector couldn’t really guess on his “theme” since he basically just looked like a human with some fancy clothes on. Very fancy clothes on.

“At least his clothes look good. Maybe I'll get my tailor to design me something similar."

When it finally came time for Hector to speak, he merely straightened and spoke clearly.

“I’m not sure I can answer that question,” Hector replied, “At least, not yet. Other teams have names based on a particular aesthetic, theme, or concept they strive to embody or that others have recognized them for. Maybe we should wait until we get a solid team composition and do a few raids and events to see what could fit us best. Then again…”

Hector looked over at the registration NPC. Teimei had to turn something in to officially create the team. Hopefully whatever she ended up using was good, and if not, then hopefully it was possible to change it later on. He shifted his gaze to the other players assembled with him and thought. Hector didn’t know their decks yet, which is why he had been paying attention to their avatars’ designs and usernames for an idea. Other than Teimei, Crimson, and Ivy, there was… just thelegend27. He stood out to Hector, mostly because he was the only other person there who wasn’t using a completely human avatar. Technically speaking, Hector used a human avatar himself, but you currently wouldn’t be able to tell due to the Steelswarm Moth “headpiece” being active in addition to the rest of his design.

“Definitely an insect user. Seems unusually chipper for some reason.”

After a few more moment of silence, Hector spoke up again, though he figured his suggestions weren’t as good as what had been offered so far.

“So… two insects, a plant, a nobleman, and a warrior,” Hector finally said aloud. “I don’t know… Garden of Eyes? The Wicked Garden? Those kind of fit with what we currently have. Too specific, though. Maybe Parasol, since we’re a fairly varied group by the looks of it, but we’re under the same umbrella?”

Hector paused as he thought some more.

“… Team… Excel. No, Excise. Team Excise. We’ll be a cut above the rest if we manage to pull this off, and we’ll certainly have to cut off and through anyone who tries to stop us so that they’ll no longer even be a factor in the grand scheme of things. And as far as successful teams go… I don’t think there’s one specific thing that leads to success, but some things are definitely more crucial than others. I’d say… communication, which is a pretty broad topic the way I’m thinking of it. Other than obvious talking, it’s knowing your teammates’ preferred playstyles and ace plays, transmitting and interpreting intent, and basically anything that goes into strategizing and improvising based on what they present.”

Essentially like this, although not exactly. It's more like Hector modeled his armor and clothing to mimic the look of Steelswarm Moth. The wings function like a cloak, while the Moth's head functions as a kind of mask/hood/helmet he can use and disable at will. Beneath that, his appearance is similar to himself. Also, he doesn't have a tail, as usable extra appendages from monster designs aren't a thing yet.

But in all seriousness, Hector does try to consistently maintain an air of formality and composure, even to the point of aloofness. He believes it befitting of his high stature… and necessary as well to ward of false friends and critics, really anyone who might try to use his connection to wealth against him and for their own benefit. Hector has become somewhat suspicious and inhibited as a result, sometimes leading others to see him as cold and haughty.

On some level, those assumptions are true. Hector has always been selective of who he’ll spend his time with, and his way of responding to others on a “superficial” level is sometimes cold and curt even if unintentional. He is also rather vain, taking great care of and pride in his natural looks and outward presentation, and being critical of those who do not at least try to make themselves look presentable. Decorum is also important to him, with social transgressions against him or others when “they should know better than that” being a surefire way to earn his genuine distaste.

He’ll act much the same way in duels as well, though certain subtle gestures may betray the full depth of what he’s feeling; he may draw his lips into a thin line to hide a satisfied smile over a good play or victory, or his eyes might narrow and take on a “steelier” appearance when frustrated and under unfavorable circumstances.

Overall, though, Hector is not pathologically narcissistic, and will generally be willing to talk and interact with most people so long as they have common courtesy and propriety. Interacting with Hector for longer periods and on a more personal level reveals him to be respectful and rather amicable. Especially among select friends and family, he is much less uptight and more relaxed, with his emotional expressiveness coming through more freely and as a slight surprise.

    Biography:

    Spoiler

Hector has moved to Japan fairly recently following the expansion of his family’s company. The company, dealing in the sale and development of unethical biological weapons and creatures pharmaceuticals, means he has always been extremely well off, enjoying luxury and comfort, and attending the best schools no matter where he went.

Raised to eventually inherit and manage the growing company, however, Hector does inwardly feel that he’s missed out on a lot of “youthful” activities, such as engaging in shenanigans with friends or just chilling in ordinary locations without any of the pressure of formal settings. The one thing he has been able to enjoy that’s considered a relatively “universal” pastime and even profession, is dueling. Dueling has often given Hector the excuse he needed to be on his own and interact with people outside of his usual settings, even if he didn’t necessarily make many friends due to his usual public disposition. Still, it was fun and removed from the formalities and pressures of his life, which is what mattered most. He was good enough to gain some recognition and notoriety within those venues as well, and competed in an informal manner (i.e., he competed, but without any lofty aspirations of becoming a known, pro duelist) rather well. It was neat, being given attention for something other than the company.

The announcement of Battle Horizon coincided with Hector’s recent move to Japan, making it an exciting occasion and a good opportunity for him to get to know people and make friends in a more “hidden”, or indirect manner, as well as enjoy dueling in a new way. He preordered on the spot and was one of the first to log on when it finally released. He definitely enjoyed the story and single-player aspect of the game and ended up primarily sticking to solo content despite occasional intentions of joining up with a clan or raiding with others. With the disbanding of Royal Flush and the announcement of a new mysterious superboss, however, Hector finally decided to take the plunge and join with an actual clan, this one being completely new and without any of the expectations and requirements of the older and more popular clans.

Deck: Hector runs an “lswarm” deck focused heavily on the Steelswarm variant of the archetype. Steelswarms aim to tribute for various effects, ideally amassing advantage, board presence, and control of the game while delaying and disorienting the opponent’s plays.

    "lswarm" Customs

    Duel Skills:

    Spoiler

    1) Exact Tribute: This turn, monsters you control count as 2 Tributes for a Tribute Summon. During the turn you activate this skill, you can Tribute Summon 1 monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set, also, until the End Phase, each time you Tribute Summon a monster, draw 1 card. (Cooldown: 3)

    2) Fearsome Approach: This turn, your opponent cannot activate card effects in response to a Tribute Summon. Whenever you Tribute a monster this turn, destroy a card on the field unless your opponent discards 1 card. (Cooldown: 4 Turns)

    3) Kingly One: Return up to X cards on the field to the hand, where X is the number of Tribute Summoned monsters you control. (Cooldown: 5 Turns)

    Misc:

    Spoiler

    1) Hector has an interactive pet in-game, a mischievous little Steelswarm Scout that follows him around the world of Battle Horizon. Scout is usually seen hovering by his side or perched on his shoulder, and will often involve himself in Hector’s duels by doing things like celebrating the destruction of an opponent’s monster or acting with astonishment when a fellow Steelswarm is destroyed.

    2) While idling, Hector’s summoned Steelswarm monsters have been known to communicate with each other in a strange, distorted, droning language befitting of them as a race of biomechanical insectoid demons. They also have idling animations, ranging from things such as Mantis sharpening his blades against each other, Moth flapping his wings and momentarily flying into the air, and Girastag charging and checking the gun he has for an arm.

    3) Unintentionally, Hector's clothes in the image I used for him follow Steelswarm Moth's color scheme lol. Also I have no idea why this text is smaller than everything else.

  4. Quote

yui: my brother in christ you've just gone and made a whole-ass archetype and slapped the name "Steelswarm" on it

This thread should probably be titled "Steelswarm Support/Revamp Cards" since the vast majority of these cards were made with Steelswarms in mind. Both Steelswarm and Evilswarm can work together, though, and many of these cards refer to "lswarm" in general anyway, so it still works. I may also make some Evilswarm cards in the future, so there's that too.

Anyway, these are cards I actually made several years ago to support one of my favorite archetypes, the lswarm, now with a stronger focus on the more unique Steelswarm. I first played Steelswarms around... 2013 or 2014, I think, in the 2011 "Over the Nexus" DS game. Loved their aesthetic, loved their Fiend typing (we really need more Fiends in this game lol), and I enjoyed their playstyle even if they were still pretty mediocre when they came out. They were good in the video game, at least lol.

Some time later, I found out about Evilswarms, mainly because of Ophion. That card's effect was really good back then, and especially with the lore behind the Evilswarm being monsters that were infected by a virus released by the Steelswarm, I thought it really fitting to make a deck using both archetypes. It actually worked pretty well for a time despite the occasional clunkiness and bricks. Unfortunately, the deck pretty much died once the game really sped up, and it's remained dead since with little hope of revival.

Still, I never really forgot my love for the deck, so here we are. I haven't really played Yugioh in over 5 years now, so I've no idea what the state of the game is now; my main reason for posting these cards is because I'll be using them in a Yugioh RP hosted by a friend of mine. Card wording/formatting is likely to be pretty awkward and/or incorrect, and balance on some may be an issue. I spent a lot of time on these, but I had fun making them. Here's to hoping Yui's RP won't die after two posts and make all my hard work be for nothing lol :D!

    Spoiler

    Main Deck Customs

    1. Apollyon, the First Steelswarm

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 11, 3550/0

Effect: Must be Normal Summoned by Tributing 3 “lswarm” monsters you control and cannot be Summoned by other ways (cannot be Normal Set). This card cannot be Tributed, and it cannot be targeted by your opponent’s card effects. If this card is Summoned, you can target cards on the field and/or in your opponent’s hand, up to the number of “lswarm” cards in your GY; send them to the GY, then gain LP equal to the number of “lswarm” cards in your GY x1000. Once per turn: You can pay 1000 LP to banish 1 card from your opponent’s GY. If you do, banish all cards with the same name as that card from the opponent’s hand, Deck, Extra Deck, and GY.

Trivia: The new boss for Steelswarms since Hercules is sadly pretty lame. "Apollyon" was the name of an angel in Revelation said to rule over a bottomless pit and over a host of demonic locusts. The lore behind the Steelswarms is that they were a race of demons sealed far underground until Noellia released them. Demonic bugs living deep underground? Apollyon seemed like a fitting name to use for this new boss monster.

    2. Steelswarm Larva

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 2, 1000/0

Effect: Can only be used for the Summon of an “lswarm” monster. If you control no Tribute Summoned “Steelswarm” monsters, you can Special Summon this card from your hand or GY. You can only Special Summon "Steelswarm Larva" once per turn this way. If this card is Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a “Steelswarm” monster: You can draw 1 card.

Trivia: Plenty of larvae live underground until they reach their adult form, though plenty live in the branches of trees and bushes too. Being summonable from grave or hand is meant to mimic that.

    3. Steelswarm Locust

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 4, 1750/0

Effect: If this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower “lswarm” monster from your hand or GY. You can only use this effect of “Steelswarm Locust” once per turn. If this card is Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a “Steelswarm” monster: You can destroy 1 Spell or Trap card on the field.

Trivia: Locusts, symbols of plague, destruction, and even divine wrath. Their swarms can grow large enough to blacken skies and destroy entire crop fields in less than a day, and they can trigger a swarming phase in other grasshoppers via proximity and numbers. Steelswarm Locust does the same by calling a fellow Steelswarm to aid in battle and destroying a (hopefully) important spell/trap card on its way out.

    4. Steelswarm Plaga

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 4, 1900/0

Effect: If an “lswarm” monster you control battles, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. If you do, target monster your opponent controls loses attack equal to its Level/Rank x200. If this card is Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a “Steelswarm” monster: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; negate its effects (including in the GY) and destroy it.

Trivia: Based on the robber fly. Robber flies are pretty cool but nasty insects that ambush their prey, latching onto them and sucking out their insides. The effect is supposed to represent Plaga doing the same to an enemy monster. Given how destruction- or being sent to the graveyard in general- triggers plenty of effects and how something that just got drained to a hollow shell probably wouldn't do much of anything afterwards, negation in the graveyard fits and makes the card even more effective.

Also negating monster effects even in the graveyard was first done by another card among lswarms, Evilswarm Obliviwisp. In true Konami fashion, though, it was unusable due to poor stats and incoherence with the rest of the archetype's strategy. Always did think it was a cool effect, though, so I wanted to bring it back here with some of my customs.

    5. Steelswarm Cicada

    Fiend/Effect/DARK. Level 4, 1550/0

Effect: If you Tribute Summon a “Steelswarm” monster, you can Special Summon this card from your GY. You can only Special Summon “Steelswarm Cicada” once per turn this way. If this card is Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a “Steelswarm” monster: You can Normal Summon 1 “lswarm” monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set.

Trivia: Cicadas emerge from the ground once temperatures above ground are suitable for them to live and mate. They also appear in large numbers to ensure their reproduction.

    6. Steelswarm Infester

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 4, 1850/0

Effect: If an “lswarm” monster you control leaves the field, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. You can only Special Summon “Steelswarm Infester” this way once per turn. If this card is Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a “Steelswarm” monster: You can add 1 “lswarm” or “Infestation” card from your Deck to your hand.

    7. Steelswarm Tunneler

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 4, 1650/0

Effect: You can Special Summon this card from your GY by banishing 1 “lswarm” card from your GY. If this card is Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a “Steelswarm” monster: You can target 1 Level 4 or lower “lswarm” monster in your GY, except “Steelswarm Tunneler”; Special Summon it.

    8. Steelswarm Butterfly

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 5, 2000/0

Effect: If this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing a “Steelswarm” monster: You can draw 1 card and gain 1000 LP. You may reveal that card as you draw it, and if you do, discard that card, then draw 1 card.

Trivia: "But why is a butterfly of all things being turned into a Steelswarm? They're so pretty!" Yes, but butterflies would also happily suck blood if it was available to them, and some butterflies have developed patterns on their wings that resemble large eyes to scare away predators, making them kind of unsettling to look at. I am also now reminded of that funny episode in Spongebob where they all freaked out over a butterfly lol.

    9. Steelswarm Diptera

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 6, 2300/0

Effect: You can Tribute Summon this card during your opponent’s turn by Tributing 2 “Steelswarm” monsters you control. During the turn this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing a “Steelswarm" monster (Quick Effect): You can pay 1000 LP; immediately after this effect resolves, Tribute Summon 1 "Steelswarm" monster, treating any "Steelswarm" monster you control as 2 Tributes, and if you do, you do not pay LP to activate that monster's effects this turn. You can only activate this effect of "Steelswarm Drulneb" once per turn.

Trivia: I couldn't really think of a better name, so Diptera, the scientific name for true flies, had to do. True flies include mosquitoes and, obviously, flies, and the worst thing about those bugs is that there's always more to come no matter how many you swat away. They also tend to show up at the worst times, such as when you're just trying to chill in the backyard and relax with friend or enjoy an outdoor barbecue.

    10. Steelswarm Cinel

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 7, 2700/0

Effect: You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1 "Steelswarm" monster. If you do: Look at your opponent's Extra Deck and send 1 card from their Extra Deck to the GY, then gain 1000 LP. If this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing 2 "Steelswarm" monsters: You can look at your opponent's Extra Deck and banish 3 cards from their Extra Deck, then gain 1000 LP.

Trivia: "Cinel" comes from taking the middle part of "coccinellidae", the scientific name for ladybugs. Ladybugs are cute, but they're pretty scary in the insect world. They're essentially armored tanks that run around devouring large amounts of soft-bodied pests, particularly aphids. Gardeners often use them to prevent or deal with pest infestations, which is what Cinel's effect is meant to do: prevent troublesome monsters from hitting the field before the opponent even thinks about summoning them.

    11. Steelswarm Scarab

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 8, 2800/0

Effect: If this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing 2 "Steelswarm" monsters: You can pay 1000 LP; look at your opponent's hand and shuffle up to 2 cards from their hand to the Deck.

Trivia: Originally, this card could target cards on the field as well, but I honestly felt like making a strictly better Steelswarm Moth was kind of lame, especially since Moth is one of the best original Steelswarms. I decided to have Scarab work together with Moth instead.

    12. Steelswarm Wasp

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 8, 2850/0

Effect: If this card is Tribute Summoned by Tributing 2 "Steelswarm" monsters: You can pay 1000 LP to take control of 1 of your opponent’s monsters. While you control that monster, it is treated as an "Evilswarm" monster and gains the following effect.

    • If this card leaves the field: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "lswarm" monster from your hand or Deck.

Trivia: Based on parasitic wasps, xenomorphs of the insect world. A parasitic wasps will find an insect to lay her eggs in, after which the eggs hatch and gradually eat their way out of the host. Sometimes this process actually doesn't kill the host since it has also been brainwashed to protect the larvae until they mature.

    13. Steelswarm Brachinstag

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Level 9, 2900/0

Effect: Once per turn, during either player’s turn, if this card was Tribute Summoned by Tributing a “Steelswarm” monster(s): You can pay 1000 LP to negate the activation of a Monster effect and destroy it.

Trivia: Based on the bombardier beetle (brachininae). Bombardier beetles shoot a superheated chemical from their bodies to scare off predators. Translated into Yugioh mechanics, Brachinstag will shoot corrosive acid into another monster's face to get it to go the fuck away and not bother anyone by dying.

    14. Abyss of Infestation

    Field Spell Card

Effect: You can Normal Summon 1 “lswarm” monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. “Evilswarm” monsters are treated as “Steelswarm” monsters when Tributed or Tribute Summoned. You can pay 1000 LP and target an "lswarm" monster you control that was Tribute Summoned or Special Summoned from the Extra Deck; this effect becomes the activated effect of that monster (choose 1, if multiple), but all battle damage your opponent takes is halved until the End Phase. If this card is removed from the field: You can Special Summon or Set 1 “lswarm” or “Infestation” card from your Deck or GY to your side of the field, except “Abyss of Infestation”. You can only use each effect of “Abyss of Infestation” once per turn.

    15. Infestation Emergence

    Spell Card

Effect: Add 1 "lswarm" monster from your Deck to your hand. Except during the turn this card was sent to the GY, you can banish this card from your GY; add 1 "lswarm" monster from your GY to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Emergence of Infestation" once per turn.

    16. Lingering Infestation

    Spell Card

Target 3 “lswarm” and/or “Infestation” cards in your GY; shuffle them into your Deck, then draw 2 cards. Except during the turn this card was sent to the GY, you can banish this card from your GY; add 1 "Infestation" card from your GY to your hand, except “Course of Infestation”. You can only use each effect of "Course of Infestation" once per turn.

    17. Return of Infestation

    Quick Spell Card

Effect: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower “lswarm” monster from your Deck. You can only use 1 “Return of Infestation” per turn.

    18. Spread of Infestation

    Continuous Spell Card

Effect: You do not need to pay LP to activate the effect of “Steelswarm” monsters. Once per turn, if you Tribute Summon a “Steelswarm” monster: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower “lswarm” monster from your Deck or Normal Summon 1 “lswarm” monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set.

    19. Infestation Onslaught

    Continuous Trap Card

Effect: Your opponent cannot activate card effects during the Battle Phase. Once per turn, if you control 3 or more “lswarm” monsters: You can target 1 monster in your opponent’s GY that was destroyed by battle this turn; Special Summon it, and it is treated as an “Evilswarm” monster. You can banish this card from your GY (Quick Effect): Halve the ATK of all monsters your opponent controls.

Trivia: In the Duel Terminal storyline, many monsters became Evilswarms after dying in battle to another Evilswarm monster.

    20. Infestation Revival

    Continuous Trap Card

Effect: Once per turn, you can target 1 “lswarm” monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. Monsters Special Summoned by this effect cannot attack and are destroyed if this card is removed from the field. You can banish this card from your GY (Quick Effect): Special Summon 1 “lswarm” monster from your GY, and if you do, it cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects until the End Phase of your next turn.

    21. Overwhelming Infestation

    Counter Trap Card

Effect: You can activate this card if you control a Tributed Summoned “lswarm” monster or an “lswarm” monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. Negate the activation of a Spell, Trap, or Monster effect, and if you do, destroy it, then gain 1000 LP. You can banish this card from your GY and target 1 card your opponent controls (Quick Effect): Its effects are negated (including in the GY).

    Extra Deck Customs

    1. Steelswarm Virulence

    Fiend/Xyz/Effect/DARK, Rank 4, 2650/0

Effect: 3 or more Level 4 “lswarm” monsters

While this card has Xyz material, your opponent must pay 500 LP to activate monster effects. Once per turn, you can detach 1 Xyz material from this card and target 1 monster your opponent controls; this turn, you may Tribute that monster as if you controlled it, and if you do, it is treated as a “Steelswarm” monster. During the turn you activate this effect, you may Normal Summon/Set 1 “lswarm” monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set.

Trivia: I guess this is kind of like a personification of the lswarm virus cloud you see depicted in several card arts such as Creeping Darkness and Infestation Pandemic. The idea is that the opponent's monsters are beginning to show symptoms of infection by needing to pay LP to activate their effects, similar to how you have to pay LP to use Tribute Summoned Steelswarm effects. Eventually, one of those monsters succumbs to the virus, "dying" and making way for a new Steelswarm.

    2. Steelswarm Pabilsag

    Fiend/Xyz/Effect/DARK, Rank 4, 2400/0

Effect: 2 Level 4 “lswarm” monsters

While this card has Xyz material, card effects in your opponent’s GY are negated. Once per turn, you can detach 1 Xyz material from this card and target 1 Level 4 or lower “Steelswarm” monster in your GY (Quick Effect); this effect becomes that monster's effect that activates when that monster is Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a "Steelswarm" monster. Also, you gain 1000 LP.

Trivia: Pabilsag was a weird figure in ancient Mesopotamian myths. I first head of him in the Epic of GIRUGAMESH Gilgamesh, where he was described as a scorpion-man monster that guarded the gates of the underworld. Similarly, Steelswarm Pabilsag guards the gates of the opponent's graveyard, preventing things there from escaping. Since Pabilsag also permitted Gilgamesh entry and exit from the underworld, this card allows one of your Steelswarms to leave as well.

    3. Steelswarm Synoeca

    Fiend/Xyz/Effect/DARK, Rank 4, 2450/0

Effect: 2 Level 4 “lswarm” monsters

While this card has Xyz material, your opponent cannot destroy “Infestation” cards you control. Once per turn, you can detach 1 Xyz material from this card (Quick Effect); Apply 1 of the following effects, until the End Phase:

    • "lswarm" monsters you control are unaffected by your opponent's card effects.

    • "lswarm" monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle.

Trivia: Synoeca, the scientific name for warrior/drumming wasps. Wasps are cunts to begin with, but warrior wasps take it to a whole new, terrifying level. They will initially beat their wings against their bodies and hives, producing a kind of drumming or marching sound effect, to ward off intruders. If that doesn't work? They will resort to swarming and chasing the intruder for miles. Their sting is incredibly painful, and they will even wait for you to rise for air if you decided to try and escape them by jumping underwater. Because they are petty bastards.

    4. Steelswarm Arach

    Fiend/Xyz/Effect/DARK, Rank 4, 2300/0

Effect: 2 Level 4 “lswarm” monsters

While this card has Xyz Material, your opponent can only add cards from their Deck to their hand (except by drawing) once per turn. Once per turn, you can detach 2 Xyz materials from this card; Draw a card for each Tribute Summoned “Steelswarm” monster you control.

Trivia: Obviously, from the word "arachnid". I guess a spider here is pretty unfitting considering how most Steelswarms are forms of beetles and flying insects, but this was originally based off "phthiraptera", the scientific name for lice. I think lice are pretty gross even by bug standards, so I decided to make this into something cooler that still fit with the idea of restricting your opponent's "movements" while rewarding you for stringing a certain amount of tribute summons together.

    5. Steelswarm Dynas

    Fiend/Effect/DARK, Rank 4, 2500/0

Effect: 2 or more Level 4 “lswarm” monsters

(Quick Effect): You can detach 2 Xyz materials from this card; Return all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls to the hand. Your opponent cannot Summon those monsters until the End Phase of their next turn.

Trivia: Dynaistinae, the scientific name for rhino beetles. Rhino beetles possess a large horn on their head which they use to fight and toss away competitors. This card is also based on a favorite Magic card of mine, Reflector Mage, whose effect was a seriously good tempo disrupter and proved to be a very good deterrent in many EDH games.

I plan to eventually use the site's card maker to turn these into proper cards with cool images. Some card names and effects are subject to revision.

  5. Not gonna lie, I completely forgot I even had an account here lmao. I'm just going to pretend I just registered.

BUT EITHER WAY, MY GOOD FRIEND YUIBIE THE KEKIBIE FROM NCM WHOM I MET APPROXIMATELY 8-9 YEARS AGO ON A ROLEPLAYING SITE, I AM HERE AS PROMISED TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR RP NOW THAT YOU WENT THROUGH THE TROUBLE OF SETTING IT UP.

Looking forward to it. It's been like... 5 years since I've roleplayed or even made a character, though, so go easy on me lol. Good timing for this to happen, at least, since I'll be done with finals for good next week and will have a whole month off to chill.

Edit: Oh yeah, I should probably also mention that I haven't played Yugioh for 5 years either. Stopped around the time Grinder Golem got banned and never looked back. I'm pretty sure I still remember most of the mechanics and stuff, but I might need to get brought up to speed every so often.
