  1. Death Game by Majority

Hey, you. You know what a Majority Vote is?

    No?

Great, then that means the game is fresh for everyone. That’s wonderful news, we don’t have to worry about preparing you all too much. We’ll wake you up when it’s your turn to go.

    ━━━━━━━ ⟡ ━━━━━━━

    RP Information

    Spoiler

First things first… Be prepared to die. Your characters will not be safe in this environment, and as the cast gets smaller, your chance of survival gets slimmer.

I do have final say over the RP, but… Generally, this is going to be heavily influenced by the players. I don’t have a 100% set in stone script. I have loose events that can happen, and the way those play out after isn’t dictated out at all really, because I don’t know how you all will react.

In the same vein, I have no plans on who lives and who dies. To say it’s up to chance isn’t entirely correct, but the nature of the game means there will be a chance of just poor luck happening for your character.

Because of this, if a player feels they can handle two characters fine, I’m open to the idea. That doesn’t mean everyone can get two characters, or even that everyone who wants one will get one, because the cast size does affect which NPCs I’ll use. I have more than I need for it, but it’s not a set in stone situation.

More information about the setting? It's a modern day type setting, real world based, your characters are just normal people, normal lives, with their own hopes, dreams and aspirations. One day, they noticed that they were being trailed by an odd van, it always seemed to be nearby, despite their best attempts to shake it off. More proper information would come when the OoC thread is ready, but...

Finally... I have no guarantee on when I can actually start this thing, if people are interested. I know it's normal to wait and post interest checks when you have a solid base for the RP ready to start, but because I don't know if enough people are interested in this, I don't want to get a lot planned out for RP purposes and then have no interest. The best I can say is that I would like to have this ready to go before the end of the year.

    The Game Itself

    Spoiler

Your characters will not have access to the following information at the start of the RP, but you will.

Your characters will wake up in a strange room, notably only having a bed and a door leaving it, there’s nothing else inside of the room, from there, your characters will be introduced to the idea of a Sub Game.

The Sub Game is different each time, and will be explained to the characters when they reach it. It can vary wildly on each floor and there’s no guarantee on what it might be. After completing the Sub Game of the floor, the players will move on to the next part.

The Main Game is the main draw of this RP. While the rules and roles stay the same each time, each round may, or may not, have a twist that makes the system play a tiny bit different. Players will receive a role through some means, and the game is to figure out who to vote for. The person who is voted for will be executed, and the game ends if the players execute a safe target. The Roles are Commoner, Sage, Keymaster, and the Sacrifice. The Sage, Keymaster, and Sacrifice are one of a kind roles with special abilities and drawbacks, while commoners are plentiful, anyone who doesn’t have one of the first three cards will have one of them.

The Commoner has no special abilities to work with. Their goal is to vote for another Commoner or the Sage to survive.

The Sage knows the Identity of the Keymaster through divination. They are free to use this information how they please, but they cannot lie about the results of a divination. Because the Sage has no inbuilt protection, if people know they're a Sage, they become a target for the vote. Their goal is to vote for a Commoner to survive.

The Keymaster is immune… But only if people know and believe they are the Keymaster. This is because if the Keymaster receives Majority Vote, everyone is executed and the Game ends. Their goal is to vote for a Commoner or Sage to survive, if they are voted for, everyone dies.

The Sacrifice gets to vote twice. Their goal is to be the person voted for at the end of the Main Game, and if they are, they win! They get to survive and pick one person to leave the game with them. Everyone else is executed. If they don’t get voted for, they are executed alongside the Commoner or Sage.

The Main Game is broken into two voting sections.

The cast gets to discuss who they wish to vote for, for a period of time before the first vote. The first vote narrows the cast down from the initial amount to half, and these are the people available for the final vote to determined who the Majority Vote is.

Once again, the cast gets to discuss their vote. They can talk among themselves, question each other, and do their best to figure out who they need to vote for, or who they should avoid voting for… Then they vote. If they vote safely, the chosen party and the Sacrifice are both executed, and the Main Game ends.

After each Main Game, the remaining players move on to the next floor, where the next sub game begins and the cycle repeats until the Death Game has a winner.

    ━━━━━━━ ⟡ ━━━━━━━

Like I said, I don't know for sure when I can start this. Even if I don't really have enough people interested, that's okay! I'll turn it into a story instead of using as RP material. As is, I don't know if it's really that great for RP's as is, and I give it to the judgement of the site to determine that. A forum game, possibly, would be easier to run, but one of the biggest draws of it to me is the potential for character development and interaction. That said, it would be very dialogue heavy, there isn't much in the way of combat in this type of RP, though strength is necessarily useless.

There's also the nature of the Main Game to think about. Realistically... The game could be over in the very first Main Game. If that happened, well, it would be sad for the RP, but I take that as the natural, potential course of it. Not every game is meant to last for ages, and this one could end quickly, or be much longer, depending on how the cast votes.

If it winds up not being of interest, that's understandable, that's the point of interest checks after all.

  2. my nerves has been killing me lately.

i'm finally, actually doing some writing again, that's great, i finished a one-shot story in a day, roughly 10k words. it was nice to get something done. then i close it and go about my day.

then i start thinking about how anxious i am about the quality, i do some editing. i'm just not happy with it. despite being happy at first. i find things to nitpick, to get upset about.

the entire reason i finished it one day, though i didn't wanna admit it at the time, is that i think i would've deleted it halfway through if i didn't. now that it's finished, i still have that urge to delete it, to make sure others don't see it, cause i don't think it's worth putting out there.

and here I am, rambling about it, cause i feel like if I hold it in anymore I'll explode. it's really starting to grate on me and my nerves are more shot than usual, even though i've been productive, it feels like i made no progress.

"Hi. It's not pretty up there."

Vivian paused for a moment as she heard that, the sight of the girl coming out of the room definitely caught her just a bit off guard as she rubbed at her cheek gently, “...Yeah, I kinda guessed that, it seemed like a bad idea to hang out in there too long. I felt a… Bad aura in there, probably the spirit, you know? It felt like it got stronger earlier, I didn’t wanna take a peak alone. Stronger in numbers and all that.”

Vivian thought that was a fair reason, honestly. It wasn’t like her power gave her immense combat abilities, she was mostly good for blasting a few of the smaller monsters a bit harder than most. While it was true she didn’t wanna go in by herself, the more important bit was that she wanted to stall for time. If she got that sword and the boy’s power to go with it… Maybe then she’d be able to do something. Even if she had to figure it out first. Telling other people that though… Don’t give them ammo to think they’re stronger than you.

“I kind of regret taking a peek at all,” Alice sighed, slumping down against the wall. Seriously, what the hell was that thing? Processing what she’d witnessed in that room wasn’t a quick and easy task. At least she wasn’t left out on her own for it. Talking to people helped with that sort of thing. “If I knew we were up against some Lovecraftian nasty I would have just stayed home. There’s better ways to get gacha funds than by risking my life like this.”

Viv paused for a second as she tilted her head up, a brow raising as she did, “I’ve only heard bits and pieces, but aren’t those the games that… Reaaally abuse their model to scrape cash from people? There’s definitely better ways than this to get money for that.” She didn’t want to condemn the practice too early, there was a beauty in what those creators had put together, but it seemed to lack any sport… Risking your life for it was a different matter, even to her. “Is it really that bad though? I thought it just got a little power bump… Don’t tell me it was way bigger than I expected?”

“It’s bad.” As much as Alice wanted to defend gacha practices, this wasn’t really the time for that. Reaching out with her hands to signify the size of just what was up there, she explained “It’s like… that big. But bigger. With this nasty…” Alice swung one of her arms forward, as if lashing out with that monster of a flail that was attached to that monster of a ghost. “I don’t even have a combat-oriented ability. Maybe with a higher PPL, but as-is the best I could do is kill it by tearing the whole building down. And some of the surrounding ones too.” Even that was probably an exaggeration. RVs and trailer homes were one thing, but there was no way Alice could tear down a big ol’ steel-and-concrete business building. “Not worth it.”

Vivian sighed gently as she rubbed at her cheek gently once more, her fingers starting to scratch against it as she spoke up, “...Yeah, I don’t really have a good combat ability either. I think if we had some more time, I could scrounge up a plan, but I need to know what I’m dealing with to do that, which means going in the scary door over there.” She brought her hand down from her face, slipping it into her pocket as she leaned back against the wall and glanced up, “...A higher PPL though? That’ll give ya a fighting chance, maybe? Hell, I’m willing to try, wanna make a wager, kid?”

“You can’t just give out PPL like that, though! Unless that’s your ability?” Now that was a thought! But if she was handing out PPL to people but still had more leftover than Alice had total… just who was this woman? Being a PPL battery for others sounded like a pretty shitty power. Though, there were times that she’d rather have that over that thing… which she did to the…

    Uh-oh.

With a newfound sense of urgency, Alice got up to her feet and made a beeline for the nearest window, peering out. Immediately, her lips curled inward as a firmly “I fucked up” type of expression spread across her face. Oh dear. Hopefully everyone was too distracted by what was going on in this building to worry about outside right now. No no no, stressing over this would only make it worse. Alice turned her attention back to the PPL battery. “Alright, you’re on. What’s the bet?”

Viv grinned a little bit, she wasn’t entirely sure what was going on with the weather outside at first… If it got her new ‘friend’ here to react like that, it probably meant she was involved in it with her power. Really though, that didn’t matter to her at the moment, “Easy bet, you know? I bet I can pump up your PPL level. If I can’t, you win… I dunno, a golden watch. I’ve got a couple of these back at home and it doesn’t seem like sword boy is gonna win his bet.” She held up her wrist, letting the watch dangling on it flash towards Alice as she did. Really play to that ‘gachi’ addict nature of her’s, she could get a pretty penny for it…

“If I can pump it up, you get better control of whatever it is you do, we go in that room and we try and stall for time against this thing. If you die, or when the creature-slash-crazy spirit dies, I get the PPL back. Honestly, it’s a no-lose situation for ya, right?”

“It sure is. You’re on!” Alice strutted over to the battery girl and held out a firm hand to shake. “Though, I gotta say, a new watch does sound tempting…”

She laughed as she nodded her head, “...If we survive this, I’ll give you a chance to bet for it another time.” She took the hand, giving it a small shake. Honestly, she had no idea if this would work or not. Theoretically, her power does let her transfer PPL as part of the winnings for the bet. So… She shouldn’t have to do anything fancy here. She tapped her foot on the ground for a moment, before glancing at her watch again… “Oh! Looks like it does work after all, I was sorta worried. I won’t be taking any bigger bets for a little bit though...” She grinned as she felt a familiar rush running through her body, though usually… It wasn’t going to be going this way, a draining sensation, something that made her feel as though she was disconnecting from her gambling prowess just a tiny bit…

    PPL: 340 -> 90

While Alice would get the opposite sensation, a feeling of energy starting to fill her body, a stronger connection to her powers. When it came to these abilities it can definitely be hard to describe, but a natural understanding of her power perhaps was the best way to put it. Not necessarily perfect... But better.

    PPL: 250 -> 500

“Wha! That’s incredible!” She could feel it! She felt… completely the same! Physically, at least. Mentally though, she felt… sharper? More finely-tuned. Like how a sword may have felt fresh off the grindstone. It was hard to describe. For a moment, Alice turned to the window again, considering the possibility that maybe she could reverse the effects of her abilities? However, she didn’t want to chance it right now. Things had already gotten a bit out of hand, and if she tried to fix it but only made it worse with twice her usual PPL… no thanks. “Now this is cool! Alright, let’s go kick some eldritch ghost butt!” This was just the shot of confidence she needed right now!

Viv took a deep breath as she pushed herself from the wall, her face losing a bit of the light it had in it previously, “Yep, let’s get ready to go stare death in the face. I’m collecting my winnings, let’s hope it’s the spirit that fulfills the conditions and not you.” She stretched for a moment, turning towards the scary door as she mumbled, “...I’m not confident in my ability to stay alive for very long in there, but we just need to stall for a little longer.”

Feint right, uppercut to the creature's face as it tried to dodge. Honestly, she was getting slightly annoyed with this back and forth. It was sluggish enough to not really hit her, but she wasn't really forceful enough to dispel the creature straight up. This back and forth game would just go on and on until one of them tired out... And they were steadily getting further and further through the building, working through the floors as she let out a tiny sigh. She couldn't even stall the bet this way, but... Considering how long this bout had been going on, maybe she was doing fine on time anyway. It didn't seem like anyone else was really making all that much progress, considering there were still plenty of spooks about.

Duck. Jab to the cheek, pull back. Sidestep. Their little dance continued as Vivian made her assault on the creature a little bit... Slower. She was starting to worry about outlasting this creature, it seemed to have no concept of fatigue, while she certainly did. Her saving grace was that the creature itself wasn't very speedy. She was able to stall it out thanks to that, but it did mean that neither of them were making any real progress...

And then, as if the building itself was groaning, a dense, heavy feeling sank down upon Vivian's shoulders. It would've been bad for her normally... But her foe also seemed to be weighed down by it, before shooting itself up... And turning away from her. She blinked for a moment, "H-Hey! Where the hell do you think you're going?! We aren't done here!" She was about to chase after the spirit, but it wasted no time in fleeing from the scene. She was astonished by the speed of the spirit at this point, had it even been taking her seriously previously?

She took a deep breath as she put a hand on her hip, a small chill running down her spine as she mumbled lightly. "Damn, I could gotten a little chunk of power from absorbing that thing... I guess the alternative is..." She turned her way towards where that chill had emanated from, a nearby staircase seemed to be potentially leading towards the 'big bad' of the dungeon. She rubbed at her cheek for a moment, a little sigh escaping her as she took a glance around. It was probably a bad idea to go alone up there, if only sword boy was around, it was almost time for her to collect her winnings... Or maybe Mr. Big Shot from earlier. Either way, there wasn't a lot she could do on her own against a bigger spirit. "...I guess that means I'm waiting, for now. Hopefully the others get here before too long."

  6. I've started actually collecting physical MTG cards to use in the future, and while it's not like I've got anything super rare right now, I've got some stuff that actually is pretty nice to have.

From Zendikar I got a alt art, foil Lotus Cobra which isn't worth much but it is super pretty and I can use it in some decks. Miraug, Fury of Akoum is nice to have, and I got a foil Brightclimb Pathway which isn't amazing but still neat to have. The World Tree from Kaldhiem and I managed to snag two Jumpstart packs just a few days ago with Rise of the Dark Realms and Oracle of Mul Daya... So for a collection that started with Zendikar Rising, I'm actually pretty happy with some of the stuff I've managed to snag.

Actually, I kinda forgot from Kaldhiem that I got a Tyvar Kell, Alt art Tergrid, and Koma, Cosmos Serpant which is a commander I would like to build someday.

With a quick feint with her left hand, she caught the monster's attention briefly as it attempted to intercept fist with a block... Only for her to slide to the right, her right fist slamming in against the creature's head with a flash of bright light. She grinned as it connected, sending the monster sliding backwards as it steadied itself with a low hiss in her direction all over again. She brought her hands back up, giving a few, taunting punches in the specter's direction as she grinned. "Weren't expecting that, were you? Good to know even spirits fall for the classics!"

She laughed as the monster ran towards her suddenly, the head reeling backwards as it prepared to headbutt her properly. She grabbed at the creature as it slammed itself towards her, her hands catching the metal of it's head as they started to glow once again... She cried out in pain as she held the creature in place... A point blank burst of energy formed in her hands and she blasted it right in the ugly mug. She grinned as she sent the creature sprawling to the ground in front of her, a low groan escaping her as she brought her foot down onto and stomped down onto it, before sliding backwards as it started to rise up and hit her in return. She winced in pain, shaking her head gently as she saw her pointer finger on the right hand slightly... Dislodged. It looked bad, it definitely didn't feel good, but the blast that the creature got was worth it. She would have to worry about settling her finger later, right now, metalhead was stirring again. She lunged towards before it got up entirely, her left hand slamming palm down into it's back, shoving the creature against the floor again as that familiar burst of energy shot straight into it's back, a low hiss escaping her, "Damn, just how tanky of a bastard are you? I'm not the one who's supposed to be slowed down here!"

She slammed her fist against the specter's face suddenly, before opening up her palm to grab onto it. With a low huff, the soulblast energy formed around her hand, popping right against her foe... And she jumped back off him, landing on her feet as she watched the creature smoke from her assault. It twitched on the ground as it started to rise up once again, a little groan escaping her as she steadied herself, taking a deep breath as the monster started to run towards her once it was back to its feet. She panted a tiny bit, she had used a fair bit of energy on that burst of punches and it seemed like the creature wasn't ready to give up just yet. Her hand was aching from the struggle here, and she let out a little tch. For such a low PPL, this thing was sure putting a fight to not keel over like she wanted it to...

As it approached her, it went for another headbutt towards her midsection, her body twisting to the left to avoid being hit head on. She watched it as it caught itself from the charge, the creature stumbling for a moment as it twisted itself around to her once again. "There we go..."

  8. ──── ⋆⋅✦⋅⋆ ────

Rika watched as the briefcase wobbled around with the panda's adjustments, dropping down to the ground as she caught herself and stood up slowly. Her job wasn't done, but the way the teacher was backed against the wall... She wouldn't be able to continue her assault from the ceiling now.

"Your chameleon friend is really doing her job, huh?" the panda laughed as she adjusted her shoulders, "Didn't even know she got a lick on this thing! But it's time for you kids to learn a very, very important lesson... What villain cares about property damage?"

Rika narrowed her eyes a tiny bit, watching as the teacher's hand slammed back against the poor wall behind her, the fragile existence of it being shattered as it opened up, giving her an option to flee. "...Run all you want." Xiónglǎohǔ could run for ages if she wanted, but if this was going to be a battle of attrition... She could sneak around the cityscape at a slower pace, keeping herself hidden, as she searched for the Panda Hero. But it wouldn't come to that, she doubted that was the type of the this particular Hero would want to play.

Rika took a deep breath, watching as Tsubasa started to sprint off, a little snort escaping her as she shook her head a bit. The fact that they were going to have to keep up with her made things a little more iffy, but... They would have to trust in Tsubasa to stay focused and keep the panda distracted as they continued to pry that suitcase away from the 'villain'.

Luckily for her, it seemed that the spider boy had a plan for how to make that distract effective. She grinned for a moment as she nodded her head, "...Sounds like throwing a rock here is a good plan. While you two do that, I'll try to sneak around on the buildings nearby her. You, uh. Probably won't see me, but keep her distracted and I'll wear down that tape as much as I can... We just have to hope Tsubasa is watching the case if it falls off and I can't grab it."

She took a deep breath... And once the others began their own preparations, she took off herself, jumping out of the hole in the wall and dashing down the street. She slammed her hand against one of the buildings, a little wince escaping her as she clawed her way onto it and began to climb across it, looking down at the scene below her. She didn't go too high up, just enough to where she would be out of the corner of the panda's eyes, and her colors had already shifted to match the buildings. When she passed by a bit of window it would be a bit harder to emulate it... But as long as they kept the teacher distracted, she shouldn't see it too quickly...

Instead of aiming for the same spot as before, Rika landed on the ground on the opposite side of it, remaining behind the teacher as she quietly dropped to the ground. She waited for the barrage of ballista shots from the others to finally start... When it did, her tongue lashed out again, this time on the other side of the briefcase. It was a slow process all over again, but wearing down the tape on either side... Seemed like the best option they had to try and succeed here. If this didn't work... Then she'd have to get more physical.

  9. I was holding on to responding to this until I got my thoughts together, so I think I'm gonna try to keep this brief.

It was a good show with a rushed ending. That's not to say it was... Bad? The ending made sense, logically, but with the speed they explained things, it felt rushed and unfulfilling to a degree. Watching the characters interact in that situation was still enjoyable, and the path they went down did make 'sense', but it didn't make sense in the context of what they had already established, if you know what I mean.

If the show had two, three more episodes, it could have reached the ending a lot, lot more organically. I think the same ending, with more build up to it, would have made sense, but at the same time, I don't think you can cut off the early episodes that seem 'fillery' because they establish what kind of world you're in very well, and have some important character moments in them too. So that leads me to thinking it just needed a few more episodes... Cause the pacing was alright prior to the final few episodes.

I'm biased though. I've gone on the record saying that, for me, I think the most important part of any series is the characters. Characters need to be solid, likeable or at least understandable. And I loved the main cast and the majority of the supporting characters in this show. I have a hard time picking a favorite character.

It's not perfect, and I wish the ending had more time to be fleshed out, but it's a show I'm glad that I watched.

"Course, it's not an antique or anything. I'd bet my PSI Whetstone that make it so lethal if I could, but that's not a very realistic thing to wager. Ha!"

Hook, line and sinker. She brought up the hand with the watch on it, tilting her head back towards the man as he spoke up, "Deal. My watch against your sword there... And whatever the PSI Whetstone is." She turned on her heels towards him, a smirk on her face as she clapped her hands together, "I'll keep track of the time, so don't you worry about it. If we go below two hours, you get it. Between two and three and we'll call it a tie. If we go over three... I win and I'll claim the spoils! Let the dice roll."

"So...uh...how do you exorcise a ghost?"

She paused as she heard that, a little snort escaping her, "I mean... You never accidentally just...?" She held her hand up, making a vague thrusting gesture with it as she tilted her head. She didn't have time to expand on what she meant though, instead they were given the joy of seeing a spirit rush towards their fearless leader. She hesitated for a brief moment, before her hand rose up towards the creature. She narrowed her eyes as she aimed towards it. This one was definitely bigger than she was used to, the energy from it seemed to be not... Too far off her own PPL even...

And that man just obliterated it like it was nothing. She didn't even need to prepare like that in the end, and instead she gave a low whistle as she nodded her head. He was definitely a cut above everyone else here.

"Anyway, now that that lug is out of the way, I'd say the stairwell is the safe bet. I've heard plenty of stories of haunted elevators. Doesn't sound very fun to me. Feel free to come along, but I'm not signing autographs."

She let out a tiny 'aw' as she started to follow behind him, a little puff escaping her, "Aw, no autographs? Too baaaad..." She shrugged her shoulders a tiny bit, before glancing over her shoulder towards the man from earlier, "Don't forget our bet! I sure won't!" She shot him a little finger gun, before heading up the stairs as she rolled up her sleeves. "I wanna see what this building has to offer! Spirits are fun, when you've got nothing better to do."

    ---

Honestly, she wasn't sure what she was looking for here. She wasn't really interested in making this a speedy process. She had a sword riding on this now, which means... Slowing down the others would be a good idea. At the same time, she could take this as an opportunity to make herself a little bit stronger, which is definitely something she was interested in. If she didn't win the sword, after all, she'd need to just keep getting stronger. Can't threaten people with a sword you don't have.

She stretched her arms a bit as she made her way through the building, a few people had started to split off, heading in their own directions and scouring the floor for more information on what they were dealing with. She reached into her jacket pocket to pull out some bandages, wrapping them around her hands slowly as she glanced around. There would be a fight here eventually, and even if it wasn't physical...

She turned herself off from the main group just a bit, peeking around the corner of the hall way intersection, waiting to see if there were any spirits lingering about...  And, boy, did she find an ugly one.  It seemed to lurch about, stumbling about the building... That tall, lanky figure just made those movements look unnatural. She couldn't really tell if it was guarding something, just stumbling around, if it even really had any thoughts in that ugly mug it carried around, but what she could tell is that it wasn't too strong of a PPL coming from the creature. Around 40ish, if she was betting on it.

She waited for it to take a turn away from where she was face, her arm rotating slowly to prepare the muscles for what she was about to do. Realistically, this was probably a really bad idea. That wasn't going to stop Vivian though, slowly approaching the creature from behind as she took a boxing stance up, her fists brought up in front of her. She wasn't likely to get all the way towards the creature, and as much as she wanted to pull off a sneak attack, she was pretty sure she wasn't going to be able to take it out in one punch. Hugging the right wall, she grabbed and tugged a closed door open behind her. The sound of the opening door caught the spirit's attention, the thing turning almost instantly towards her as she stopped in place. She kept her fists raised up, waiting... "Come on."

The creature seemed to hiss as it started to lunge towards Vivian, her eyes narrowing a tiny bit as she watched the way it rushed towards her. She shifted her feet slightly to the left, before jumping to the side as the spirit started to bring its head down towards the spot she had been standing. She quickly brought a fist towards the creature's midsection, aiming for where the ribs of a normal human would've been... And a burst of energy exploded from her fist against the creature, hitting it with a quick soulblast as she sidestepped behind it, waiting for the spirit to move once again. What she didn't expect was for it to whip around, barely raising its head up and instead using that to aim for her own ribcage, her hands barely moving in time to block the hit, a low hiss escaping her as she stepped back.

"Gah, you're more trouble than you look, huh?" She shook her hand a bit, shrugging off the impact as best as she could manage. She brought up her fists again, watching as the creature started to stand itself back up to the full height, towering over her as she watched it move once more. As it lunged forward once again, she shifted herself to the right, delivering another quick jab towards the spirit's torso, another flash of energy escaping her fist as it connected with the lanky being, "Unlucky for you, I'm used to being the underdog."

    Screaming.

It was always screaming... So many of her dreams in her life involved dealing with screaming and the awful situations that came with it. It was nothing new, it just got so... Repetitive... Not this time though. There was something awful about this, something primal, as if the Earth itself was screaming and crying out for help, shattering in half... It was positively dreadful, to say the least. The fog in the dream kept everything covered, hidden away from sight before it started to part. She was given the chance to see this awful creature jerk towards her direction. It didn't matter how human shaped it was, the lack of detail on it on the creature made it obvious this wasn't human.

    Infinity

She wasn't built for this. This thing dwarfed her own power level to an absurd degree, it wasn't something she could handle at all, by any means. She had dealt with tiny specters and odd spirits here and there, but this was far, far beyond h-

    ___

Awake. Almost as soon as the dream got interesting, she gets dragged back to reality. The pounding alarm coming from her phone made that very clear. Her hand slowly reached over, grabbing the phone to tap the alarm off. 8:02 AM. She slept through two alarms already. It took a few attempts, but it finally happened and her room was quiet once again. She groaned out gently as she slowly rose up from her bed, her feet hitting the floor as she prepared herself to start getting ready for the day. She had plans to run downtown, maybe run a few tricks on some unsuspecting suckers out there.

Breakfast was quick. A quick granola bar was all she needed for the day coming up. There would be plenty of food later if this was a success. She didn't have anyone to bounce her scams off of tonight, her usual partner wasn't able to get to the city sadly... But that didn't mean she was out of luck just yet.

As she prepared herself, she made sure to pick some rather... Disheveled clothing, giving her a slightly scruffier look than what she would normally go with... And an obviously mismatched golden watch around her wrist, Vivian giving it a small adjustment to make sure it was nicely snug in place. This would do nicely.

    ___

It took her a good hour to get downtown. Normally she wouldn't go hitting up bars this early in the morning, it wasn't likely to really give her an opportunity to run a good scheme really, nights were when those places got active... But morning runs could work if there were some good business meetings taking place. A little spill was occasionally all it took to get a marks attention. The little bar-slash-restaurant was quiet this morning, which was beyond boring for her. There wasn't really any chatter happening, there was no one who seemed to be interested in playing a game of chance, let alone anyone who seemed like an easy target for a basic scam at the moment.

    "Anyway, I better get going-"

    "I'll see you tomorrow-"

"Urgh... It's all so boring..." Vivian mumbled underneath her breath as she propped her head up on her hand, her elbow planted down against the bar as she ran her finger around the rim of her drink. She had been here eavesdropping on people for the better part of an hour, maybe even bordering on two, and still she hadn't heard anything interesting. She was lucky the bartender didn't seem to care about her loitering around as long as she picked up a drink now and again... And gave a slightly higher tip with each drink than she really needed to. It was all an investment in the future after all...

But this wasn't it. She stood up, plucking a few extra bills out to toss on the bar as she stepped away. There was one other lead on something she could do today, but... It really wasn't an exciting prospect for her... You can't really gamble a ton on exorcisms. The sorts involved in them tend to not like it when you do that.

    ___

It was getting closer to noon and against all attempts to avoid it, she had wound up at that game studio from the advertisements. It seemed like people had been gathering before she got here, she might've been a late arrival, maybe she was just on time, she wasn't quite sure. She knew which she would bet on though.

"Th-thank you, everyone, for coming! We here at ToSoft care utmost about our employees, so when we discovered the-"

Urgh. Corporate talk already. Realistically, the company could have given two shits about their employees, it didn't matter. They weren't going to work when things started to going to shit in the building anyway! Best case scenario, they get a massive wave of people quitting and moving onto less haunted pastures. Worst case, the company faces lawsuits from what happens.

"He refused to listen… we had to let him go! Everyone at a business like this has to be a team player, surely you all understand! Needless to say, he was angry, and… he crashed his car in a road-rage incident shortly after leaving the premises…"

Oh there was absolutely more to this story than what the blustering guy was saying. But it wasn't her place to go digging for more information on that right away. She technically had a job to do here...

"Alright. After a quick look around the room, I was able to see that my PPL was about four times that of anyone else here. I'm gonna be leading this if none of you mind."

She can't say that she did, honestly. She whistled softly as the guy walked forward, that was a very, very respectable PPL there. Her own was the highest she had ever seen before, and even among this group she was pretty high up there. She wasn't going to go arguing with the guy who was that much higher than her. It wasn't until he brought up the 'questions' portion that she hummed lightly, tapping at her cheek gently with the hand wearing that golden watch, "I'd like to second Mr. Trench's question about any items that might be in contact with the spirit, but our guy ran out of the building so quickly..." She let out a low laugh, shrugging her shoulders for a moment as she stepped forward, "Anyone wanna place some bets on how long the spirit will take to banish outta here? I'm feeling pretty good about an over three hour time today! Anyone thinking we'll be done quicker?"

  12. The Games Begin

    Spoiler

“Hey hey, wanna play a game? Wanna make a wager? Who needs to worry about the odds?”

    Female

    Appearance

    Spoiler

“Eh? Why am I so short? I may have gambled away some of my height, I thought it was a sure thing!”

    vivian.jpg

Standing at an amazing 5’0 even, Vivian isn’t exactly a tall girl.

She wears a variety of outfits as does any normal person, ranging from showy, boisterous outfits that gets attention on her, to more subdued clothing that helps her blend in when she wants to pull of some gambles that might need a bit more subtlety.

    Personality

    Spoiler

“You wanna know more about me? Ahahaha! We’ll see how long that lasts!”

Vivian is the definition of self-serving. Her focus is entirely on what makes her, well… Succeed. Whatever that may entail. That doesn’t mean she can’t get along with people though, she’s very capable of socializing with others and forming decently close relationships, but she has a tendency to be more concerned with what she can get from people instead of anything else. At least... That's what she likes to tout herself as.

Of course, she knows that good deeds don’t count for absolutely nothing. Someone might be appreciative and help you out later, so… If someone wants to make a bet that gives them something without taking too much away from her? She might be willing to occasionally put her own desires aside… If there’s that potential for it to come back in her favor in the future.

But of course, for any of this to matter, she has to have a personality that gets people to listen to her in the first place. Maybe she comes across as a bit snake-oily to people who are listening to her fully, but what does that matter if she gets the attention she needs anyway? All it takes are a few people interested in what she has to say, or one person to work with her.

Nothing in life comes for free, even if you're gambling, is a big part of how she lives. Anytime she wins is great, but she can always lose if she doesn't play her cards right, and she knows this well. So... Having people in her corner, even if she would rather just reap all the rewards herself, is something she values. You can't always get through everything alone, even if you play all the odds perfectly, sometimes things just don't go your way.

    Biography

    Spoiler

“You know, I used to be a King of England? I made my way through the ages just passing through bodies like it was nothing! It was way easier back in the day, people were in situations where they would trade their identity for a few bucks. Never told ‘em what I was leaving them with, obviously.”

Vivian never gives a clear story about her background. There are a few… Constants, in her story however. She mentions that she stayed in a small, rather isolated country town for a long time, living there and making due with her small time gambles. It always works up the same way, she gets more and more… Adventurous with the gambles she makes, giving her something new to play around with.

Sometimes she mentions taking over an entire gang.

Sometimes it’s just her stealing a new identity and running off with it.

And the whole time, she cracks jokes about where she might be from, where she’s going, who she even is!

It's only when she gets to the present that she seems to tell anything remotely believable. She heard that the new city state whatever that was building up in popularity? It had nightlife you wouldn’t believe, people willing to risk it all for a quick hit of dopamine. She could find a new mark every night, find someone who hasn't heard of whatever scam she's running at the time. It’s the perfect place for someone like her, someone who just wants to gamble her life away.

Sure, she could find a job there, maybe she would if she got bored, but she could spend night after night, gambling away. If she ever got into a sticky situation, well… It’s not like she’s never hopped bodies before, riiight? This city has to be good for some fun, for something to give her a new sense of adventure.

There’s another constant. She never says why she leaves any of the places she mentions.

    ESPer Ability

    Spoiler

    Gambling Pro

With enough time and planning, anything can be a gambling scene! And with that, comes her power, when she’s involved in a bet, anything can be wagered. Even if it would go against the laws of nature, it’s theoretically possible for her to collect any debt she wants.

A physical contract isn’t required, a verbal contract works just fine for her. She also can’t force someone into a bet. If they aren’t willing to agree to the terms, then the bet doesn’t get established, though with sly words this can potentially be worked around.

Debts also don’t have to be collected immediately. If she wants, she can entirely forgive the debt and pass over the potential reward.

    what is your favorite copypasta?

this is a hard one, really hard

i think my favorite is probably the I saw Flying Lotus in a grocery store copy-pasta. You can replace Flying Lotus with whoever you want, but that one always makes me smile.

Do you prefer watching sad or scary things?

Definitely sad. Scary is only really relevant to me if it comes with some good story, I don't like horror for horror's sake.
