Story

Welcome, Hunter Hopefuls, to the untamed continent of Alcoria!  Here, you will be attending the newest Monster Hunting Academy, Rath's Peak!  Built into the side of the continent's tall, cliff face, the school is bombarded by the waves of the ocean, and incredible trunades!  Learning here will be no easy feat, but what better way to start your hunting career than to learn from such a harsh environment!  Alcoria is still a mystery to the Research Commission, so they will be learning just as much from your studies as you!  Our first investigation target?  The World River, of course!  A giant river that stretches two cities wide, and spews out the side of the cliff.  It's said that this river is the only one on the continent, and Monsters from all around fight over the multiple territories that it flows through.  As students attending here, you will be assigned a partner, and head out on missions at the behest of the Research Commission!  With your help, however, maybe we can unravel the mysteries of Alcoria and the World River!

The Diablos-Killer

Spoiler

RgUCmnc.jpg
"I am human. Is there anything more important than that?"

Name: Sifu
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Weapon: Switchaxe

Appearance:

Spoiler

(art by nuriko-kun)

Height: 6'3"

Personality:

Spoiler

Sifu is a simple girl. She wears her heart on her sleeve, seldom holds her tongue, and when she has a goal in mind, she chases it as far as her legs will carry her, and then further. She doesn't often stop to consider a course of action, typically opting instead to leap into action fueled by instinct and intuition. In these regards, she's not entirely unlike the very monsters she seeks to hunt, although she hates being compared to them in any way. Sifu's excuses for why she's completely different from "some brainless destructive beast" are that she is indeed still human, complete with the ability to communicate, use rationale and logic if she really feels like it, and feel emotions just like anyone else. She's a rather upbeat and positive thinker despite her rough appearance, but her passion for simply living life the way she sees fit is rivaled only by the passion with which she hates monsters.

What she lacks in some other qualities, Sifu makes up for with her sincerity. She isn't one for deceiving others, or beating around the bush. It is what it is, and saying otherwise won't change that, so what's the point of lying or embellishing? This also makes her great at acknowledging when she's in over her head, though she may have already leapt into action by the time she realizes and admits it. Not that she'll be discouraged that easily. Sifu is at her best when staring death in the eyes. The ability to face death so closely and still continue onward, ripping and tearing one's way back to life until they emerge victorious, is what Sifu believes is what it means to be human at the most primal level. And to her, there is nothing greater to be than simply human. Even if her ideals can be a bit barbaric sometimes, Sifu wants what she thinks is  best for her fellow humans, and if it means tracking and killing every last monster herself, that's just an added bonus to her.

Biography:

Spoiler

Hailing from the desert town of Rekusara, Sifu didn't always want to be a hunter. At first, she wanted to be a traveling merchant. It was what her parents did, and it was a dangerous job when getting from one stop to another, but she respected the job all the same. It would also be a great way for her to see all over the world, meet many people, and have a life full of new and unique experiences, just the way she wanted it. She didn't particularly like monsters back then either, but simply felt no initiative to deal with them herself. Hunters weren't exactly scarce, and had the proper skills and equipment. That was their job, and she'd chosen hers.

What she didn't expect was a for her path in life to take a sudden and jarring turn. When Sifu was nearly old enough to safely depart with her parents on their trades and travels, she was ready at the opportunity. The job she wanted and the job she'd end up with crossed paths one fateful evening when a stray diablos saw it fitting to make an attack on Rekusara. Sifu could only watch as the hunter and the monster duked it out, with the hunter failing to deliver the killing blow in the end. In the heat of the moment, out of the interest in preserving her own life, Sifu took up the fallen hunter's weapon, finishing the beast off herself. The battle was won, but much of the town had been damaged, to say nothing of the lives lost.

Calling it bloodlust wasn't accurate, though Sifu would be lying if she said she didn't enjoy the thrill of the hunt in that short moment. Something about that kill though, flipped a switch in Sifu's head, as a lot of her scattered knowledge about monsters all clicked together. They were a menace, easily capable of destroying livelihoods and families like Sifu had witnessed firsthand. And for the good of all people, they had to be exterminated, wholly and completely, without any mercy. It was that idea that turned Sifu to the path of the hunter, especially since finding her way into a new path in life was unlikely anyway in the ravaged state of Rekusara. With revenge in her heart and the good of mankind in her mind, Sifu found her way to the untamed continent of Alcoria, where Rath's Peak - a school dedicated to teach people how to become monster hunters - was in business.

Determined to learn and excel at monster hunting, Sifu intends to return home to the desert after graduating, to hunt and kill diablos until she renders them extinct herself.

Monster Hunter, Babe Slayer

Spoiler

Name: Slate

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Spoiler

kyvEJm9.jpg

Height: 6ft

Weight: 220 lbs

Biography:

Spoiler

Back on the mainland, in a port city named Swassh, Slate was born into a family of merchants.  He grew up selling ingredients and tools for hunters who rolled in from their latest hunts low on supplies.  He basked in all of their coolness from the day he was able to remember running the stands.  While he was young, his father would give hunter's a discount if they were able to recant their last mission to him with all the gory details.  Slate would always listen intently, with eyes as starry as the Sapphire itself.  As he grew older, he became much more interested in becoming a hunter himself.  Although his family was a bit off put by the decision, they knew the day was going to come eventually.

And so he trained his body everyday, lifting rocks and running his legs ragged, until he was able to lift those crazy swords for himself.  But that was only the first challenge.  He had to train to master the weights of those ridiculous weapons, and how they moved and flowed.  He also had to figure out which one would make him look the coolest, as he slayed monsters and saved the town!  He instinctively leaned towards the Long sword.  It's ability to slice the air with a sweet ringing sent chills down his spine.

With his weapon in tow, and a letter of recommendation from all of his father's customers, Slate set sail for Wrath's Peak Academy.  With his heart palpitating, and his nerves twisting his stomach in knots, he looked to the sunset with a cool smile.  It was time to become a legend.

Personality:

Spoiler

Slate is your typical laid back guy who has never come up against any opposition in his life.  Growing up in a rather well off household, he never wanted for anything.  And being the only boy out of his seven other siblings was rather easy.  He had many a favor from his Dad, who let him off the hook for most anything he did wrong.  He loves to flirt with women, even though he's never actually landed anything serious, but from the stories he's heard, that's how all guy hunters were like, so he wants to be like them too!

Slate also has an incredible sense of style.  Everything he does, he tries to turn the cool factor up a notch.  Although, try as he might, he tends to come off as a try hard.  However, in his eyes, if you aren't trying to act cool, then what was the point of even being a hunter?  To him, nothing is cooler than slaying something that's twice your size, and is as strong as you!

Name: Zaita

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Height: 1,76m
Weight: 78kg

Biography

Biography

Zaita caused quite a ruckus when she was found as a toddler by a pearl diver of Moga Village floating in a wicker cradle just outside his home, with a necklace made out of a monster tooth with her name carved into it and nothing else.

He took her in, and the next day this strange, ashen-skinned child of the sea became the talk of the village almost immediately, so he decided to bring her to the village elder to ask for his advice, which was to simply adopt the child as part of his family, as he had been the one to find her.

The whole family had a history of adventure, some of them even leaving to join the Hunter's Guild, and those who stayed back in Moga still helped the local Hunters fight off monsters that got too close. This inspired young Zaita to also want to become a Hunter, along with the tales about other lands she had never seen she heard from the Guild-appointed hunter who came to investigate the trail of an ancient leviathan that was thought to have been causing earthquakes around the archipelago.

Her resolve became final when the crisis caused by the Ceadeus came to a head, with the beast appearing from the deep and the entire village, herself included, helping the Guild-appointed hunter to fight it. After that incident, she resolved to go apply for membership at the age of 14. With her family's blessing, she stocked up on food and set out on a canoe, headed for Val Habar. She rowed for four entire days, leaving the dockworkers flabbergasted when she approached the pier, waving at them and loudly demanding to know where she needed to go to sign up with the Guild.

After a short stint as a dock worker and fisher in Val Habar to pay for the food and equipment for the rest of her travel, she quickly headed to Loc Lac City to join the guild. She spent the two following years training to survive in the desert and fight monsters. However, the monotony of the desert quickly bored her, so when she heard of the opportunity for new Hunters to join the training program at the newly founded Rath's Peak Academy in an exotic, unexplored land of myths and mystery, she signed up immediately.

Personality

Personality

Zaita is friendly, enthusiastic and reckless, and curious as a monkey. Aware of her status as a foundling, she never felt quite at home in Moga Village, despite how kind her adoptive family and fellow villagers were to her, and was always eager to explore and discover new things.

She had picked up a few superstitions during her voyages, which she sometimes adheres to just to be on the safe side. One particular story that stuck out to her was about how Alcoria is actually the gates to the afterlife, and the World River which flows through it is actually carrying the life force that feeds every living being in the world.

She joined mostly for the thrill of the travel, though she also looks forward to the advanced training to become a real, full-fledged high-rank Monster Hunter.

The Family Business

Spoiler

Name: Okita Izou

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Appearance

Spoiler

Biography

Spoiler

Okita was born and raised in the Yukumo Village, the son of the local blacksmith and of a hunter. As such, he had grown up around hunter culture and honestly loved every part of it, and it was a dream of his to become a hunter his village would become proud of. Of course, he didn't just sit around dreaming about it, his mother put him through the wringer every day, training him on how to use weapons, what to look out for, and even letting him go out on hunts against low ranked monsters.

The most important thing she taught him though was the hunter way of life. He was taught to be observant, to not only study a monster's habits in battle, but out of battle as well. After all, hunters were not just killers, and monsters were not just creatures to be slaughtered. A hunter was also a researcher, learning more and more about the world and humanity's place in it, and monsters were animals of the world, living their own lives and keeping the world in balance.

When he turned 18, he left the village in search for a place that needed a hunter. He traveled for a long time, getting odd jobs as a guard and such, but not seeing much action. After about a year on the road, he learned about Wrath's Peak Academy from a customer, and decided it was the best shot he had at getting the most experience he could under his belt. With a goal in mind, he set sail for the academy, ready for adventure.

Personality

Spoiler

Okita is quiet sort of fellow, one that is always in the background, taking in the scenery, and observing something new and unusual. His favorite subjects of study are of course interesting new monsters, although a new person can grab his interest as well. He loves monsters, although he will not hesitate to take one down if it is threatening the life of humanity. He does take offense to the notion that monsters are nothing but mindless beasts. Taking a lot of time to study them, he has grown to appreciate them and their place in nature.

In battle, he likes to take advantage of the things he learned and make plans to take down the monsters. He has a bit of a problem being too rigid when it comes to his plans, and sometimes has problems adapting and ad libbing. He also sometimes forgets the fact that because he is able to plan something doesn't mean that he can physically pulled off.

Weapon

Spoiler

Bone Hammer
