  1. I only just found out, but alec holowka, creator of night in the woods and co founder of its studio, commited suicide after being shut out of the game industry and kicked out of his own studio by zoe quinn's unproven rape allegations. That is unbelievably horrible.

No, just because multiple people said it COULD have happened, maybe, doesn't mean it happened, that's now how proof works.

Oh, I agree that they haven't proven that he was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. There are also enough people capable of corroborating Holowka's history of abuse, so I'm willing to consider that, if old friends, co-workers, exes, and even his own sister are all stating that he abused people, then I'm going to believe them.

  2. I said yesterday that wargroove, DMFD, and sunless skies were out, but apparantely I forgot that Praey for the Gods is also out in early access, it's a shadow of the colossus clone that takes place in norse mythology. Also, Metal Slug XX(the newest one) is out on steam, but is apparantely very badly received.

  3. I think I'll replay Borderlands 2 soon, the only things I remember about the game were "butt stallion, say hello!" and other handsome jack bullshittery which was super funny, and claptrap making that joke about "was that an earthquake, or just your mom getting out of bed? zing!" joke which was great. Also I remember a broken as hell shotgun with "fires as fast as you can pull the trigger" and that was badass too

  4. I think I'm done with Siralim 3, or won't play it as often, I beat all the super-duper-ultra bosses 6 times(which you need to do to unlock being able to use a weaker version of them), and I don't feel like fighting all the extra, weaker bosses or doing any of the stupid achievements like play for 1000 hours or battle in 1000 tavern brawls or reach fame rank 100 or etc, and I already have a functionally-invincible team comp(my team prevents enemies from casting spells and takes ~99.9997% reduced damage from all other sources). I had a lot of fun creating a lot of team comps and archetypes and stuff, really great game. Jumbo elephant just sucked to fight tho, starting the fight with 2000% all stats is just bullocks. https://i.imgur.com/wHjrZE8.png

Do the math, my team have(multiplicatively):

      Spoiler

      90% reduced damage from surathli

      50% reduced damage from bulwark

      30% reduced damage from jailbreak

25% reduced damage from chaos guard

65% reduced damage from damage control

      30% reduced damage from sloth

~30-50% reduced damage from siren soothsayer

50% reduced damage from ruby paragon

50% reduced damage from topaz paragon

95% reduced damage from drifting shade

90% reduced damage from a rune

      50% reduced damage from wormrot

25% chance to negate all damage from a rune

      50% reduced damage from protect

35% chance to negate all damage from perks

25% chance to negate lethal damage from perks(it doesn't count, but still)

30% reduced damage from their helmets

~40% reduced damage from their helmets.

It's BASICALLY invincibility, only enemies that are 5000x your level will even scratch you.

      mido9

But how does it win, you might ask, or you probably won't considering I have probably literally never gotten a reply to my siralim status updates except by rewas mocking me.

      Spoiler

Spell gem of Mutilate: Deal damage to a random enemy equal to 100% of its maximum HP, before reductions. This spell cannot be cast manually, but has a 15% chance to cast when its owner takes damage. Equipped to all my creatures.

Spell gem of Guardian Force: Your creatures defend. Equipped to all my creatures

      Omnicolor Salamander: Traits:
Hotspur: At the start of battle, your creatures have a 35% chance each to cast a random spell they have.

Simulation: When your creatures cast a spell as a result of a salamander trait, they cast a random different one of their spells. This trait does not stack.

Wallflower: When your creatures defend or provoke, they cast one of their spells at random. This trait does not stack.

Limitless: When your creatures cast a spell, they have a 50% chance to cast it again. This trait does not stack.

So at the start of battle, Hotspur activates, making a random friendly creature cast either Mutilate or Guardian Force, then Simulation makes them cast the one that didn't activate. An enemy takes damage and all my creatures defend. Wallflower activates, and my creatures cast either guardian force or mutilate, and simulation makes them cast the other spell, they all defend, an enemy takes damage, and so on until you reach the maximum number of spells castable in one turn or the enemies are all dead.

    1. Fusion

      Fusion

      They're fun.

Lot of people watching to do and it's cool to see all the different cosplays. Panels vary, some are cool and some are whatever. I don't usually go to that many, but they'll give you a full schedule so you can see and plan out which ones sound interesting.

Art alleys and the merch room are where it's at because you see a bunch of cool shit. Just be mindful of expenses, they can add up.

    2. Shradow

      Shradow

They're great. Fusion nailed it, but in addition try and see if there are anybody big you'd want to meet, like a voice actor doing a signing session (the line would be long obviously), or maybe some hosting a panel or something. Also see what sort of music groups will be there, there's usually an awesome concert at the cons I go to (last one I went to had fhána and that concert was amazing).

And if you're into that sort of thing, maybe check out any game tournaments. I enjoy Smash Bros. and that's always popular, plus the game rooms themselves sometimes have cool stuff I've never seen before.

Of course, any of this depends on the size of the con you're going to. The one I go to every year, Acen, is the 6th largest in NA, so obviously there's tons at that one.

  10. Just finished watching terminator 1 and 2 because I dont like to be more than three decades behind on the times, and they are AWESOME. Like, I've seen them ripped off or rehashed or referenced or done badly so often so often without seeing the originals in their total awesomeness and extremely tense, good set pieces that escalate every time you think they're done it felt like going back to seinfield and going "man, they really got the punchlines right in this".

  14. Man, outer wilds has one hell of a story all around. It's sorta halfway between a walking simulator and a space game since there isn't any combat or anything but still, I'll just describe/say the overall experience of the whole entire game in the comments, spoilers and such but I mean, the game isn't as deep as it looks, the story is just interesting honestly.

    1. mido9

      mido9

      Spoiler

Basically, you are a new astronaut from timber hearth's outer wilds exploration division who just graduated and got the launch codes for his new ship and is tasked with finding out about the old civilization called the Nomai. On your way out, though, you get zapped by some statue from the ancient civilization that nobody's ever seen zap anyone so far, very unusual. After this you find out one unusual thing: You can't die. Every time you die, you get time warped to just a second after you graduate and have the launch codes. So you explore the world to find out why this keeps happening. Also, every 20 minutes each timeloop the sun explodes, and according to the scientists, it's not due to explode for millenia, so you explore to find out what's happening.

As you explore, you find more and more stuff about the Nomai's technology.

The Nomai came here because they heard a signal from something called the "eye of the universe", which supposedly predates all universes they know, and because their home solar system had a supernova. They started setting up to explore the solar system and find out the best way to find the eye of the universe.

They find a discovery in that black holes teleport to corresponding white holes, but also that all their timers and estimates show that things that go into a black hole end up coming out of a white hole BEFORE they entered the black hole, as if it went back in time for a second, then the one further in time got erased. The more energy used, the further in time things can go. Using this, they devise a big plan to study things and find the eye of the universe quickly.

They create a probe launching platform to try to find the eye of the universe, but there's no way to get enough power to launch it fast, unless... they were to create a supernova and transfer it back in time along with themselves, so they don't get fried in the nova. There's also only enough supernova insulation for the probe launch platform, so they can't use black holes to go back. So that's what they do, they create memory statues to send their memories back in time and one last thing... the sun station which fires nukes to cause the supernova. So after you get this revelation, you have a final goal, to stop the sun station, break the memory statues, and end the timelooping.

      Except... and here's the kicker:

The sun station doesn't work. The Nomai abandoned the project at the last step, after setting up the statues, probe launcher, everything, the sun station didn't have the firepower to cause the sun to explode. and all this was set up hundreds of thousands of years ago and this series of events just automatically went into play because of a natural supernova, not planned for this time, and the supernova in the Nomai star system was not a recent unnatural occurence happening across the world, it's just delay because the Nomai travelled much faster than light. The Nomai all left to explore a comet at the edge of the star system instead of continuing the sun station and all died in a brutal accident in the comet. The sun is exploding because the sun just reached its natural conclusion. So the only thing left to do is to turn off the timeloop, gather all the earth citizens to the eye of the universe, use its power to create a new universe, and set up one last camp for a day before the supernova wipes the world out, in a "life goes on" melancholy ending. Thousands of years later, it's shown there's a new species of spacefarers ready to explore the world.

  15. man, there's so many good artists and artstyles it's almost hard to choose what I'd want to be like. I like persona, and hideo minaba, and fire emblem, and puzzle and dragons, and mistover, and mazeran, and riyo, and countless random internet guys, and I know im basically going "something tells me I can easily beat those trained professionals with a 10-man art team who do it for a living", but still it's hard not to get inspired

    1. Thar

      Thar

I always looked at it as if you should stick with whatever process or technique you're most comfortable with/enjoy the most and let any breaking point be a perk more than a goal, cause if you don't enjoy doing what you previously envisioned yourself doing like these other successful artists did, then really what was the point?

    2. mido9

      mido9

Yeah, for me I mostly just make my drawings out of rough assemblages of other artworks, just take a pose/shape from one drawing, add the hands from another, add the clothes from a different one, etc etc to make something overall good.

    3. Thar

      Thar

I'm kinda the same way. Most of my original work that I spent the most time on usually came from a photo I took and then used a grid to transfer it to a larger canvas to mimic in pastel. I've been meaning to get more into pure scratch drawings where I don't rely on references to create, I just need to get the feel for certain things before it starts to feel natural.

  16. Me and nour are going to an anime convention tomorrow, again(friday). Same organizers as the last time, should be fun since I'm less nervous/know what to expect.

      Phantom Roxas

"Testimonies aren't very unreliable" So thanks to that double negative, it means that they are reliable. And it's more than just one person. The Google Doc, again, multiple literally dozens of testimonies, from people who collaborated and confirmed each other's stories. This is not secondhand information; these are people expressing resentment based on years of abuses.

      https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WZFkR__B3Mk9EYQglvislMUx9HWvWhOaBP820UBa4dA/preview#heading=h.v89be0jiemu0

Those are the actual allegations. There is evidence in the document for you to read at your leisure.

    2. mido9

      mido9

I wrote that as testimonies are unreliable, then as testimonies aren't reliable, but made a mistake.

Also, adding a lot of unproven things together doesn't make them proven, for all anyone knows they could all or most be wrong when many of these events are years old, and the confirmation bias of talking to only them.

    3. Phantom Roxas

      Phantom Roxas

I'm aware you made a mistake, but I saw an opportunity to tease and I went for it.

Considering that was a debacle that happened within the community, who the hell else did you expect them to talk to? It shows how much of a recurring issue this was, and  just to give one example, Linkara took care to mention that his memory might be faulty, so he focused on what he was absolutely certain about.

This isn't a matter of "they could all or most be wrong." That is absolutely ridiculous, and you have to be jumping through a lot of hoops at that point to deny the possibility that there could be even the slightest merit to what they're saying.

  25. Sad Panda is shutting down in 12 hoursish because of a new law in Netherlands and the anime/manga enthusiast section of the internet is completely on fire to try to save as much of it as possible, to the tune of petabytes of content

    1. mido9

      mido9

For those who don't know, sadpanda is a hosting site for doujins and h-manga, the biggest one on the internet. It's where all other similar sites scrape their content. It has a lot of artbooks, non-h, and other content too. Also because a lot of artists are discovered because they drew doujins, or that some of them were huge inspirations like how katawa shoujo was inspired by a doujin raita(valkyria chronicles artist now) made, some artists sold doujins of their own work to fund the anime (goddanar season two) and just artistic preservation it's a big deal even if you don't like it
