Scouts are broken in every Valkyria Chronicles game, by the way. Consistently the best class. Mobility is king in these games, and their rifles do the most consistent damage at longer range than Shocks. Shocks are only really viable in 4 because Scouts can pull them with direct command, and for killing tanks. Engineers are fine if you're playing your first play through but they're basically ghetto Scouts late game. Lancers and Snipers are also alright for a first play through but fall off so hard in the post game it's not even funny. Not going to rate any of the special classes, as they're highly game specific.

It isn't. I really, really don't like Valkyria Chronicles 2 or 3. 3 is not nearly as bad despite being filled with dumb stupid classes that shouldn't exist like Fencers, but 2 has a special place in hell for being the odd child out. 2 has no place in a Post VC4 canon, and they had to make VC4 essentially slap you in the face to make it not totally contradictory with VC2, instead of doing the logical thing and just erasing VC2 from canon.
I absolutely hated the School theme. I hate how it completely undermines VC4's ending by for some reason starting the war again, and to a lesser extent just completely screws the entirety of two much better games, 1 and 4 by undoing everything you did in those games just because. I hate how it was released for an absolute bastard child of a console, and never given a proper console release. Aliasse is the least compelling Valkyrur in the series. The only good thing VC2 did was show how fucked the Federation is when they're not stuffing little girls into reactors to use them as nuclear bombs. That's about it.

You know how much I love it when games juxtapose between what seems like a despair-filled situation, telling you it's hopeless and that there's no way forward, and then some triumphant music kicks in and someone tells you to just get the fuck up and fight. Case and point: Fire Emblem Awakening. May not be the best Fire Emblem game but damn if that kick into Id - Purpose from Id - Return isn't amazing I don't know what isn't.

I am massively incapable of being an evil person in RPGs where you can do bad stuff. Like, right now in Skyrim I'm a vampire who doesn't feed on people (partly because for some reason feeding only makes your vampire perks worse), who has the Ebony Blade that I fully upgraded by just repeatedly reviving and killing Jaree-Ra (since he and his sister are bad guys who betray you and you have to kill them for the quest but they count as "friends" for the Ebony Blade).

For any Metal Gear Solid fans in the room, is MGS 4 enough of a great game where I should play it without knowing anything about the series beyond the basics? Saw it was free on PSN, wouldn't be playing it anytime soon, but curious if it's worth the download space. I'll never have time to play the whole series, but figured if I were to play one installment, this would be the one.
