Question for RPers: You ever feel like you're losing interest in an RP but don't want to just leave? If so, how do you maintain that interest and keep yourselves motivated? It's been something I've struggled with and want to improve on, cause I feel like I lose interest too quickly and too often.

I have this on numerous accounts, but somehow along the way as the RP goes, something springs my interest and enjoyment back to life for it. It's usually a hit or miss thing, but like you, Radio and the bovine said in Duck's thread, it's normally about just activity to get people into an RP. There are other factors, but those tend to be the high ones.

Personally speaking I think it's unhealthy to stick around if you're not interested unless the cause of the lack of interest can be changed by talking with someone.

If you for instance are losing interest due to low activity, or feeling you can't do anything, then it's best to tell the host that. Things like that a host should be able to help with if you're open about it.

If you just don't feel interested anymore and can't single out a cause it's bad to try and force yourself to continue and overall can hurt the RP because then the issue of someone not posting but people waiting for them because they think the person just needs a little more time.

That said if you're open about lack of interest and need to be "written out" for a bit to see if your interest comes back that could work too. Basically don't force yourself, talk about it openly, and make sure you're not just staying with the flawed logic of "Well I don't want to cause trouble"

  5. In terms of preference, I'm down for both original and existing settings. Originals have that "open canvas" feeling that can be pretty refreshing, but existing settings allow for some fun experimentation with what you're familiar with. Though as Cow said, what it really comes down to for me is activity. An interesting idea will get me in the door, but if things start loosing traction, chances are I might lose interest, especially during the brainstorming phase. I also agree with Radio; a good idea for a character will definitely have me at least jump in to make it, cause once I have a character that I want to play, if the RP gains any ground, I'll stick with it for at least a little while. For how long? I can't say, cause commitment ain't exactly my forte, but that's another thing entirely.
  6. Dang, Returnal looks super fun. Too bad I won't be able to play it anytime soon.

  12. Not yet, but I've been meaning to. Kinda hesitant to buy any more games cause I've splurged a bit on a few and I haven't played much of either. Definitely an interesting concept, though, so maybe I'll just get it now to play later. EDIT: Ended up getting them. Very interesting and refreshing take on Minesweeper. I'm enjoying them so far.
  13. If anyone wants to throw recommendations my way: I have little to no interest in story or plot, but I love learning about certain characters and watching them develop. I like enough challenge to be interested, but not too much as to get frustrated. I rarely play things for extended periods of time, cause I'm easily distracted/burned out. I like exploring, but I also want things to do and I like progressing and being rewarded. If I'm to play something for long, I'll usually have a podcast or recorded livestream playing in the background, so I prefer something that I can only half pay attention to while playing. Just throwing this out there in case anyone feels like it.
  14. Assuming you're familiar enough with the Binding of Isaac to discuss builds and synergies: What's your favorite build? also, if you could make an item to be in the game, what would it be?
  15. Welcome to another one of Thar’s trains of thought nerding out over overly-logical shit for non-logical bullshit. This might be one of those things where people might already know it, but figuring this shit out felt like a revelation to me and I just wanted to get it all in writing. In any case, today I would like to share a recent rabbit hole that I found myself digging through. To provide the full context of this, let’s start off with what prompted the initial question: I was listening to an episode of a podcast called The Last Podcast on the Left, a podcast discussing various figures and events with a macabre or mysterious theme such as serial killers, cults, urban legends, horror stories, etc. The episode in question was part of a three-episode series about Josef Mengele, the lead medical expert in Auschwitz, who was known to have gotten away with thousands of cruel experiments on the camp’s prisoners during the Holocaust. Anyway, during this episode, the guys would occasionally go on a tangent to relieve the listeners of the morbid details of the subject they’re discussing, during which they mentioned Spongebob. Naturally, this had me thinking of Spongebob and Bikini Bottom. “Hold up, Bikini Bottom… is that a real place?” I asked myself, opening up google without so much as a second thought. In my research, I managed to learn the following: Bikini Bottom is based off the isle of Bikini Atoll, a territory of the Marshall Islands on the western Pacific. The island name is based off the Germanic transliteration of the Marshallese term Pikkini Atoll, translating to “surface of coconut.” “Wait, so that’s what that means… so does that mean…” Again, I thought to myself as I made the connection to the swimwear, bikinis, realizing the name might actually attribute to the top piece of the suit covering the wearer’s “coconuts”, more literally simply being on the “surface of the coconuts.” Whoa. Anyway, another thing I learned is that the island of Bikini Atoll was used by the Germans as a nuclear bomb test site, which may or may not be considered canon in the Spongebob lore after the use of stock footage of a francium bomb test on the episode “Dying for Pie” after Squidward took a full pie bomb directly to the face. This also brings the assumption that all the characters in Spongebob are mutations as a result of these experiments, even though Tom Kenny himself “debunked” this theory by saying he doesn’t believe that’s the case. Interesting regardless. In any case, a new query opens up in my mind: Considering where Bikini Atoll is located, in the Spongebob movie, Spongebob and Patrick had 6 days to retrieve King Neptune’s stolen crown from the coastal sundries shop Shell City. Considering the two later ran into David Hasslehoff running in slow motion on the beach, this alludes to his role in Baywatch, meaning Shell City is located on the coast of LA, California. After making some measurements, Bikini Atoll is roughly 5000 miles (~8000 km) from the coast of LA. So if we can assume it took a couple days for the two to travel up until their encounter with the deep diver, aka the “Cyclops”, it must’ve taken up maybe a day or two for the latter to get back to the coast of LA to his shop. After they escaped from the shop, they were racing against the clock to return the crown just before Mr. Krabs was executed. Considering this, David Hasslehoff had to have swam nearly 5000 miles across the Pacific Ocean within the remainder of time that they had. So regardless of just how long their journey took going one way (because let’s face it, nothing is ever logical in the Spongebob universe), Hasslehoff was HAULING ASS, having to swim at LEAST 100 mph… nonstop... and that’s assuming it took them a couple days. If they left the coast at the same time that Neptune started making his way back to the Krusty Krab, we can assume speeds over mach 100 (roughly 75,000 mph) to get them there in a few minutes. Granted, there’s no way of telling exactly how long it took them, but the fact that Hasslehoff managed to swim that far that quickly is one hell of a feat. So yeah, that’s my TED talk on how ridiculous it sounds to apply logic to this kind of shit. Thank you and have a good night!
  16. Who in Utena do you identify with the most so far?
  17. - Welcome to the armory, or as I appropriately call "Tharmory", because any time I can apply my username into wordplay, I will. This will effectively serve as an archive for any characters I make that may or may not see action depending on the activeness/existence of the RP as well as my own activeness or lack thereof. Additionally, this may also serve as a workshop for characters that I felt inspired to make for existing RPs (either that I have no interest in participating in or rather do but cannot be accepted), for any potential RPs that may or may not be made in the future, or just purely for fun. Below are the characters in question. Each character is linked to the post in the OOC for their application. Dates most likely will not reflect on the original post due to edits made to the app (for some reason the client overrides the original date with the date edited, which is lame but whatever.) Feel free to look around, discuss, or provide feedback on anything you see here. This thread will be updated accordingly as new characters are made/edited. - Inventory: Date - RP Name - Character name - (Status) The Loadout (Active): Characters that are currently a part of an active RP or pending acceptance. The Chest (Inactive): Characters that were made but scrapped due to inactivity or rejection. The Forge (Concepts): Characters that are made purely for fun or for potential submittal for currently non-accepting RPs.
  18. Who'da thought giving away free furniture would be this complicated?

  19. This might actually motivate me to read/watch the series just to get more familiar with the world. Noting interest, but not promising participation. If anything, I'll follow along with whoever's in.
  20. How the fuck is there not an option for lions in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator?
