If Diana had lacked confidence in the group at the start, she certainly did after what she learned from her Googol searches. There was no way they could overcome that. Even as they stood at the gates, Diana just shook in her boots. Sure, she had told the rest of the group that she felt like Nat was their only chance... The others seemed excited, but there was no way this would go according to plan. Even the support items she had asked for, some shotput balls, a javelin made of magnesium alloys, and a mask themed around her namesake to cover her face, barely managed to calm her nerves. Especially considering the rest of the outfit was just her gym uniform...

    And then, it began.

"welcome 1-A. I, Hemlock, will be your mock villain for the day." Gesturing to herself, the woman's smile broke into a more concerned expression as she said, "though, I feel the need to apologize to all of you. It wasn't really my idea to be a part of this exam, as I'm not normally a hero that does much fighting. So, I regret to inform you of all of the teachers that are taking part in this exam I'm most definitely the weakest. Sorry if that disappoints you." Picking up the brief case by her side with one of her bare hands, the girl presented it to the other students, "oh, but you're all looking for this too right? Please, still try your best and go for the win!"  The woman giggled as she gave a reassuring smile to them.

Aside from the odd sense of familiarity she always felt around Ms. Yuuka, the humility the teacher showed only served to worsen her fears. The best she could hope to be right now was a distraction, but that came with risks. Clenching her fists tight, and giving them both a look, the student spoke softly.

"I'll head on out. Everyone, [I'm counting on you.]"

She wouldn't get seriously hurt. It was just a mock battle. There was no way that she could actually be harmed... Right? Taking a deep breath and pulling the lance from her back, the hero-in-training pointed it directly at Hemlock.

"[I am Seigi no Hiiro - Artemis Justice, and I AM JUST FINE!] I'll be the one to take the case from you, teacher!" she roared, the mask seemingly causing a bit of an echo effect as she spoke up. She surged forward with the javelin at the ready... but as she approached Hemlock, she still wasn't sure if her heart was really in it. But, with no other choice, Artemis Justice vaulted herself into the air with her weapon, Diana pulled back her left hand and grit her teeth, aiming for the teacher's arm holding the case, the only hope she had riding on her team.

  2. The maelstrom roared in the shifter's dream, leading to fitful rest. When did they fall asleep? How did they fall in here? Who were they? The voices never ended, or at least, they couldn't tell if they did. Too many voices, some sounding nearly identical to others, eating away at their slumber. A monster. They were a monster. No other sigh. No other senses. Only hearing. Two of the voices, matching perfectly, roared about what they had seen. It was a mistake. This was a mistake. They should know better. She should know better... But as the chaos reached its peak, a single, soft voice echoed through the dream.

Okay, DevinI don’t know if you can hear me wherever you are down there. I guess it doesn’t matter. You don’t have to come back up right away, but do know I’m here for you, at least.

That one voice caused most of the others to grow quiet. The swirling emotions to calm. It wasn't immediate, but the shifter felt more control returning to their senses... Sure, they were still in a dream, but everything began to come back now. They were naught but a demon... But that voice was still there. That one voice. One they had to protect.

    -----

Devin, or whoever they were, awoke to the sounds of a fight taking place. Melissa was next to them still, but some of the others had begun to move out and confront the... sand sharks? Weird. But as one of the fish? Mammals? Whatever the hell sharks were set upon them, Devin's body moved like lightning, shooting straight up into the air with Melissa in their arms... and a pair of ethereal blue wings on their back, lined with gold trim. They flapped from above the battle, looking down intently, before their senses returned to them.

"Ah, sorry..." The shifter muttered and cast their gaze aside, Melissa still in their arms, "It was just... instinct. Thanks for waking me up..."

Their mind screamed at them. If what Mauvache had said was true, they should be distancing themselves from these innocent people. But, even so, here they were, rescuing someone and getting further involved.

Mistmeadow Witch and Venser, the Sojourner are more multicolor flicker effects

Time Wipe is a wrath effect that can also set up Niv-Mizzet

Askiok, Dream Render can be annoying to deal with especially against something like Karador

Fire Covenant is mass removal that can be found off Sunforger also

Cloven Casting to double up spells

Witch and Venser are both cards I need to put in Maybeboard, yeah.

Time Wipe is a 100% add-in, I just need to get a copy. Being stuck with Kaya’s Wrath sucks, cause WWBB isn’t super easy to achieve a lot.

joseph also said Ashiok, and I kinda wish I hadn’t traded it away... but I guess I got partners and triomes in the trade with it and other WARwalkers

Fire Covenant is proooobably good enough, I just look at it and get slightly annoyed for some reason. You’re almost certainly right, though.

I feel like Cloven Casting is just too heavy. Like, if it sticks I win, but that’s a huge payment for that... and I had used Thousand Year Storm for similar effect and came to a similar conclusion.

    • What's the general use of Neoform, Eldritch Evolution, and Prime Speaker Vannifar? From a scan of the deck and what you've written it looks like it finds Ramos or Hellkite Courser, which seems fun, but are there other uses that pop up?
    • Does Goblin Electromancer help enough of the time? I didn't count too many instants or sorceries with generic costs.
    • I haven't played with Jeska at all, how has she been?

It's difficult for me to suggest cards for five-color decks since there's such a huge swathe of options, but I did notice in your maybeboard you've got Lutri, the Spellchaser and Prophet of Kruphix, which are banned in commander (though I feel like most people, myself included, would be fine with Lutri in the maindeck).

It's because i am (attempting) to curate a ladder for them to work with, especially once I get Birthing Pod. As-is, they're mostly for 5->6, but some 4s into Seedborn/Prophet/Yorion is really strong, as well. I need more 3 drops to smooth that out, too.

I don't think Electromancer stays long term, but it's decent enough filler. I would love to cut it for Dack's Duplicate or the like, but need a copy.

Jeska is a fun meme. If I drop her, someone is dying on the spot, because either Ramos is big as hell or Niv has +1 attack to swing for commander damage. She's basically a fancy Boros Charm, but I have enjoyed her. Not suuuper attached to her being around forever, but not opposed, either.

Lutri is prooobably a no, but my playgroup (and by that I mean (?️), @Kazooie and @PhoenixOfCute) are okay with using the cards. Mostly cause we disagree with the logic that went into the ban of Kruphix/Lutri in main, so it's a house rule kinda thing.

I would also say that the most help would be in dual color targets for Niv that I might have overlooked.

    https://archidekt.com/decks/973152#Reborn_IRL (for ease of viewing/reading)

My first IRL deck, which is still in the works. There are a lot of things I wanna add or change, but I don't own those, and it's a matter of building my way towards it... but I might be missing some good ideas.

I wanna call this tempo, but as a mainly YGO player, I'm not great with decktypes like that.

Main wincon is commander damage or simply having more advantage than others can really handle. Mana base is imperfect, but it's a matter of getting my hands on what I need for it.

Ramos is pretty much secondary commander here, serving as a near wincon on its own.

I will also say the #1 deck I play against is Karador, so the deck does have a decent lean against it.

  6. When the others approached, the shifter began to withdraw into themselves a bit. Too many people. Too suddenly. Unsure which memories were best here. Instead, they stuck close to Melissa. It wasn't safe for her to run off again, even with those... things she had. They were in a place they didn't know, yet the shifter had already grown a bit fond of her. At least, enough to stay with her, rather than the rest of their supposed companions. Fen seemed fine, the fish seemed harmless, but... who could really know? All they knew was that Melissa had helped them, so they would stick to her for the time being.

Even as they found themselves before their summoner, the shifter simply listened. A fantastical story of being pulled to another world to save it from destruction, live feeds to potentially guilt or incentivize them into doing what Mauvache required of them, and a Q&A session, all seeming a bit too... neat for the shifter's taste. They patiently waited until a lull in the questions came up, then spoke up.

"... Who am I?" the shifter asked warily. "If you summoned me, then you should know who I am... right?"

"Ah." Mauvache leaned in and looked at them for a moment. "Ah I see... Yes, of course! You are Devin Kismet! A rather impressive person in your own right. You must be; you would not be here otherwise!"

"Devin, huh...?" the shifter's feet shifted a bit, emotion welling up inside of them, "You say that, but you don't sound very certain of it. Am I a five, a one, or am I not supposed to look behind the curtain?"

"My, my, don't you be silly. If you weren't what I, what we, needed then you would have not come this far! I may not know all there is about magic but I know this one very well! Not getting the very best for the job is not something I would accept."

    "So, you're saying... I'm a villain?"

The shifter's eye turned red and sharp from under the hood as they looked at Mauvache on the screen, voice a bit more cold.

"Why would you summon someone like that? It doesn't... make any sense. You wanted a hero, so you summoned a killer? Ha... there's no way. Either you willingly brought in a monster, or YOU'RE LYING!"

As their tone rose, reaching a shrieking yell, the humanoid collapsed to the floor, shaking and shuddering like earlier, gasping for air as their form lost its solid shape. There was no way. Out of all the memories, it was the wicked one...? It had... to be a mistake, there was no way... that was true...

"Now, now, calm down. Villain is a matter of perspective. You're surrounded by people who might be considered evil to some. If it pains you so to be told you are such...then you could easily change that here could you not? You're in an entirely new world after all."

Mauvache spoke, but the words were lost. Drowned out by a sea of questioning if it was true or not. What this suspicious woman wanted to achieve by saying that. What if it was true? Was their sense of trust in Melissa because she was easily manipulated...? The stress overtook them as they sank to the floor, all muscle tension giving out, passed out.

  7. "So... Hemlock. I don't have much of a mind for combat, so if you've got a plan, just let me know and I'll play along with that."

Diana waved back to Yumi softly as the girl took her place near Diana. She didn't really talk to her much, but maybe this would change it? She was about to reply when Yasha appeared, sitting on a desk, and swinging his legs near her. Taking a moment to breathe before she spoke, Nat joined them as well, and Yasha beat her to it.

"So! We get to fight Ms. Hemlock. Any ideas on what we should look out for?" Yasha asked. "I mean, she is a Pro Hero, so she's probably going to be a lot better at fighting than us, so we really need a solid plan going in, right?"

"Well, lucky for us, we have quite a collection of quirks." Nat said, crossing her arms. "As long as we keep Electrolyte safe from Twilex, this won't be a problem."

"[So...] None of us know what she really does, huh?" Diana gave a nervous laugh, rubbing the back of her neck.  "I guess we can just Googol it later, and come up with a more refined plan tomorrow? I'm not really sure just depending on a one-shot from Yumi is the... [smartest] plan, all things considered. What little we know about her does make approaching sound a bit difficult, but... It seems like only Nat and Yumi can do anything, so I'm just not sure how to tackle this... [But!] We can do this!"

Diana gave her teammates a big grin, just as much to convince herself as to convince them. Cause she sure as hell wasn't convinced. Pros were no joke, and this didn't seem like the best matchup for her... What if she just dragged everyone down? Even Ren would probably fare better against someone like this...

I like three houses, and I can see the reasoning behind the colors. I don't entirely agree with Claude being black, or Rhea being red, but for the most part, good work, definitely a different way to look at the game.

I gave Claude Black because of, well, his nature of being ruled by fear.

He grows out of it, but he starts out very fearful about secrets and trying to be able to handle himself properly. Given his birth name is Khalid, his heritage, etc., it's not a shock that he's so fearful. It's not so much selfish or power based, but it is fear. He greatly overcomes this, though, and manages to swing it into its more positive aspects with time.

Rhea is a bit of a zealot (WR) and is heavily, heavily ruled by her emotions throughout much of the gameplay, so I thought red worked.

And ye, I always have fun examining casts through different lenses to get to a better understanding of them.

  11. The way they were going felt... wrong. At first, it was just uncomfortable to be in such a wide open city environment, with flying cars that put Duel Runners to shame, but it only got worse as they went. Things seemed to get seedier and seedier as the shifter tried to catch up to Melissa, until they were headed through what was likely the red light district. And, as luck would have it, the stares grew more obvious. Burning into their skin. Sure, their hooded appearance would draw attention... Especially if they were following a young girl... Through the bad part of the city... Oops.

"Melissa!" the shifter called out, closing their eyes as they sprinted to her side in one final burst, breathing a bit heavily as they stopped in front of an alleyway. "I don't think this is the right w-"

"Hey. Who're you, huh? We're the Spike Brothers and we know everyone in these parts. But we ain't never seen you before. Where'd you come from that you think you can just walk on past without so much as a gift for us, huh?"

As the two of them were surrounded, memories began to roll in their head. How would they react? What was the correct course of action? After all, stepping down to the level of these boorish men was stupid... But it was clear there would be no talking their way out of it. So maybe, just maybe...

Looking at the seeming leader, the shifter lifted their face just enough to have their eyes meet his, pulling the hood open just so he could see their face, a glimmer of yellow visible to Melissa as they turned. As they spoke, it came out somehow more garbled than before, almost otherwordly.

    "I don't know. Who am I?"

  12. Pla...Ning?

I usually fly by night with it. I have general major beats in my head, but I try to let the flow carry where the rest of it goes for a while. Give players an early chance to figure out what they’re doing in a round table environment, then set them on the path.

Honestly, the singing is the worst part of it to me. The rest of it... you could convince me it was a Final Fantasy cover. It has a lot of that JRPG music feel to it, and it's sick, especially the violin. But the lyrics just... don't do anything for me. I think they actively detract.

    it's like alestorm's answer to nickelback's rockstar
