Qliphort Defragenius - Link3 Genius upgrade

Recommended Posts

Qliphort Defragenius
EARTH/Machine/Link/Effect/Rating 3
ATK: 2400
Markers: bottom, bottom-left, bottom-right
2+ Machine monsters, including a "Qli" monster
This Link Summoned card is unaffected by Spell/Trap effects and by activated effects from any monster whose original ATK is lower than this card's current ATK. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can target 1 face-up card on each player's field, except this card; both face-up cards have their effects negated until the end of this turn. When 2 or more monsters are Special Summoned at the same time to zones this card points to: You can take 1 Machine Pendulum Monster from your Deck, and either Special Summon it, place it in your Pendulum Zone, or add it to your hand.

Posted this on YCM a while ago but have made some changes.
It's a straightforward upgrade for Qliphort Genius. Admittedly, I made it mainly because I wish the negation effect of Genius was a Quick Effect. Can't say it's a really creative effect, but I tried to give it as much flavor as possible. The changes are making the material requirements more flexible, as it used to require at least 1 Qliphort Link monster, also I changed the protection, and made the search of the last effect more flexible.

Trivia, flavor & stuff:
- The name makes a reference to defragmentation. Also it hints at Genius compacting, or "defragmenting", itself by finding a body.
- It has the same ATK as the Level6 Qliphorts.

Well, Qli definitely need something along these lines. Genius only opens up 2 so Pendulum Summon is very limited, and very rarely does Electrumite not become the go-to Link in anything Pendulum-related so IMO something like this is needed.

Negation is now quick, opens 3 zones, and can give you an extra search. The search is awkward though. Most of the time you'll be Summoning 2+ monsters by Pendulum Summon, and the "place into scale" option is gonna be dead too often. The "Special Summon" option as an extra extension I'd need to see in practice to figure out if it's gonna be too much of an extender or if it really only makes up for a more limited gameplay that today's decks can stop cold too often....
The add to hand is good.

The ATK-based protection doesn't sound too great. Either anything 2500+ affects it so dealing with it is way too common, or your monster gets weakened and lowers the bar of what affects it. What do Qlis have for +ATK? seeing as how Tower's weakening and Knightmare Mermaid don't work in its favor. I guess an Axe of Despair can do the trick? xD

You can always fall back on adding to hand with the search, but wanted to be a bit more creative withe a triple option effect. IDK, placing a scale directly could lead some plays, for instance a Dinomist for their protection effects.

Qliphhorts can boost their ATK with some of their Pendulum effects, as well as Saqlifice, and that's +600 if you stack both. Not bad, IMO. Regardless, my intent with that protection is to keep it safe from most hand traps like Veiler and Snow Rabbit, while it can negate whatever bigger monster threats it. But if you think another kind of protection would be more appropriate or effective, I'm all ears.

my psct-fu is out of date since i haven't made a yugioh card in a few years but sometimes you relisten to a banger song and remember that there's a yugioh archetype with a similar name and while you want to make a shitpost but also you want to put some effort into it and make it look nice. that's not just me, right? for the stats i just stole from danger! chupacabra since the effects are similar.

If a Fairy or Warrior monster made a direct attack this Battle Phase, you can (Quick Effect) reveal this card in your hand: Normal Summon 1 monster OR Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck using monsters from your hand or field as Fusion Material. You can only use this effect of "Cyber Jammer" once per turn.

I hope you weren't expecting a Cyber Dragon card! The Cyber Girls are a group of mostly-EARTH Warrior monsters also originating from Yugioh GX that really never took off the way their successors, the Cyber Angels, eventually would. I felt like making one of my own to at least relate to what most of their effects did as several of the Cyber Girls have effects relating to direct attacks and their boss monster, Cyber Blader, happens to be a Fusion Monster. The Cyber Girls all have something to do with female sports or athletics, so for this one I felt like going with roller derby since I haven't really seen that used as an aesthetic for anything in the game to the best of my knowledge. Enjoy!

If this card is sent from the hand or field to the GY: You can Ritual Summon 1 Non-Effect Ritual Monster from your Deck. This effect of "Angelfood" can only be used once per turn.

The result of some drawing practice I felt like making into a full card. A pretty straightforward effect that's probably significantly more powerful than I imagine it to be. But hey, those dusty Performance of the Swords and Crab Turtles in your box of old cards deserve some love.

When this card leaves the Field, you can add 1 "Spellbook" Spell card from your Deck to your Hand.
