Yui Rates Music 3.0

Recommended Posts

For some reason, film music really gets me in a talking mood, it would seem.

I also recommend the movie (Suspiria (1977), directed by Dario Argento), though that may be outside the scope of a "Rates Music" thread.

It would be. This ain't Yui Rates Cinema. This song has a very nice base to it, and about halfway into the song it shows that there's more to it than just that. I would have been concerned if it was just the same 14 notes over and over again for five minutes. I'm aware the 70s were just a wee bit before metal truly burst onto the scene, but I feel as if some deep electric guitars could do wonders for that second. It also goes back into the intro again at around the 4:20 mark though, so it's back to hearing the same 14 notes over and over again. I understand that this is a movie title theme, but that doesn't excuse a lazy job where you write about 10 seconds of music and call it a day.

5/10, good production values are very powerful things and should never be underestimated.

Does this count as music?

Jk, here's the actual song

TIL spoilers don't work in quotes. Either that or this is just a weird case.

Anyway, this is one of those songs where I've never been too keen on the original if I'm being quite honest. Despite being done by the legend Danny Elfman himself, something always felt... off, about this song. Something with the vocals, since the composition is outstanding. I've never been able to quite put my finger on it. Last time I said something about this - I forget if it was online or irl - somebody told me "well yeah that's the point, it's Halloween it's supposed to be spooky" but that's not what I mean. It's not off in a spooky way; it's something else. Maybe the voice team cared more about voice acting than singing?

I could ramble on for days about why something feels out of place with This Is Halloween, but let's just leave it at a 6/10 rating.

Speaking of voice acting vs singing, the idol genre hits the sweet spot between the two perfectly. Probably because a lot of voice actors in idol anime are idols themselves. Funny story though, I stumbled upon this myself at first because I kept playing the very first Koume song you posted on loop, and youtube was like "can I interest you in a duet tho?" and I was like "fuck yeah hook me up" so then I listened to this on loop a few times. Keep posting Koume, and definitely keep posting Syoko. 10/10!

OP's suggestion. I don't wanna wait for someone to post it, because it's an outstanding musical number from hands-down my favorite Halloween movie of all time.

This is a song I actually have trouble rating in my usual semi-objective style, since Hocus Pocus is a movie that's very near and dear to me. I won't bore you with sentimental bullshit though, especially since that's pretty out of character for me. So let's say I give the song a 10/10 and leave it at that. The only bad thing about this song is that there should have been a full-length 3-4 minute version released in the movie soundtrack, but even then, the song's perfect as-is.

Not idols but

I saw this title and immediately knew what you were presenting to me. Quite a bit better than I remember it sounding. Maybe because I'm used to people who don't know how to sing singing it around the house near halloween when this movie starts getting played. 7/10, quite well put together.

Very classic-sounding. 7/10, though I'm gonna rate this one again next time since it's very late and I'm a bit out of it because of that.

I'm gonna disappear again when I run out of Halloween music.

Alas. In the meantime, here's your 6/10.

I don't know if I get to submit anything this round if you're rating my last submission again but I submit this:

You're allowed since this is a special case because I was till half past 4 last night when I usually turn in at 3 or so. I recognize the name Igorrr and knew immediately that this would be interesting. And I was not disappointed. In fact, I'm glad you decided to submit anything anyway because this is awesome. This was gonna be an 8/10 at first but that chicken grunt at the end puts it up to 9/10. As for your past submissions, I'm going to be talking about two of them actually. Deadpan Blues just above, and Fear and Delight from the previous page. I've been meaning to come back to Fear and Delight for a bit, in fact.

Deadpan Blues still sounds very 80s "metal is just now starting to burst onto the scene" to me. Like this wouldn't sound out of place in Brütal Legend; I wouldn't be surprised if I was driving around in that game and this came on the radio. Quite the compliment, because I love that game and its soundtrack. 8/10! Fear and Delight I have two things I wanted to do: Amend the score I initially gave it, and also rate the video since this is now among my top music videos of all time. I'm upping the score I gave the song to 9/10 because I've probably listened to it at least fifty times since you posted it, and I'm giving the video a clean 10/10 score!

OP's suggestion, since Spaz reminded me this song exists.

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, anyone? (I'd beat all of you at that game, just sayin)

I've always loved that bass guitar to death. 8/10.

I should eventually get around to posting one of the other tracks from Suspiria, it's a lot weirder of an OST than the title track may give it. On your own time, I will recommend "Witch" and "Sighs", though the pair of "Black Forest" and "Blind Concert" should also be noted. Soundtrack is amazing tbh, the theme seems to have been mostly improvised from what Goblin themselves said on a commentary with the 40th anniversary edition. (Though I still heavily disagree with some of your points, but I digress) Speaking of spooky season though, here's a Halloween classic from Ministry, a band that after this track went onto become an influential act in the Industrial Metal sector. Somehow, despite how far and away this is from their normal sound, this remains their most well known track and a regular in the Goth clubs

I'm too used to the Neil Cicierega version. I can still hear "bustin' bustin' bustin' bustin' bustin' bustin'" in my head as I listen to this. A 6/10 classic.

Ministry is a band I'm fairly familiar with, but mostly from their (very good) covers. Mostly. It's odd to think Everyday is Halloween is their most popular track. 5/10 at best imo.

OP's suggestion. Tonight I remembered Cel Damage was an amazing game, but I forgot until I started playing it again that the soundtrack is way too good for what it is.

8/10

I didn't realize this was a thing, but tbh this isn't surprising since there tends to be a lot of Goth compilation records filled with these type of cover tracks. (Though usually a bit more towards the 90's Darkwave style or at least a bit more synths) Speaking of Industrial bands with a set of solid covers alongside their actual music.....

Remember when I said I didn't like the goblin song because it had a good base but never really expanded upon it? This is a great example of how to expand upon a good base. 8/10.

You're one of my favorite people to rate music from because I never have the slightest idea what to expect. Have I ever told you that?

Hello 2017 my old friend. I feel like I should also warn you in advance that if you come here in November/December just to bombard my thread with christmas music, I'm going to just ignore you entirely.

I'd fuck a vampire. 9/10.

OP's suggestion. I felt like shitposting at first while I busy myself with some host work for Skies, but then I decided not to.

9/10

1) They wouldn't call me radio414 if I didn't have at least some musical variety (and by "they" I mean me)

2) That sounds like an excuse to get a even more weird.

I guess it's in spirit of the season, in a nihilistic sort of way. Headphone warning around halfway in.

I wouldn't dream of it, good sir. Besides, Halloween music is better.

Also, I found another non-Halloween actual song (kind of). I'm not sure I'd be able to find it later, so...

I encourage the posting of weird shit.

Song was going well until about the 3:30 mark, and then it nosedived like it was trying for an olympic medal. Only to stop doing so at about the 5:40 mark trying to pretend everything's alright in a rather drawn-out outro. 2/10.

All I will say about this song is go see the Joker if you haven't already! It's truly amazing.

I don't wanna tho. 5/10, at least nobody will have trouble remembering the lyrics.

OP's suggestion. We're back to posting Touhou remixes boiz, and with 17.5 having been recently announced and unveiled, let's post a remix for someone who reprised her role as a boss for this game.

7/10

I just saw that you posted Blue Stahli, three cheers for reppin' Detroit! Very solid act, anyway here's some visual kei, probably the most influential act in that genre. I need to look into them more, but this is a fantastic start I'd reckon
