Shining Star As Hideyo stepped off the bus, he stretched his arms up and smiled at the sky. The class was greeted by Tidepool Hero - Anemonesan! She was the keeper of peace for most things aquatic related. With expanding and contracting tentacles, she was able to wrap things up neatly. And today, she presented the hero class with a unique problem that required a hero's touch. The beach was littered with garbage, depriving of its usual serene presentation. This affected wildlife too, and was just a poor sight to see. And so, it was up to the students of U.A to free the beach of its polluted prison and restore it to its natural beauty. This assignment, Hideyo decided quickly, would be perfect for him. It was his time to shine. With his signature, blurring spin, Hideyo was suddenly undressed! Good thing he was wearing a pair of swim trunks beneath his uniform! Hands on his hips and his chest out, he was now prepared to fully immerse himself on the beach and be rid of the trash! He began humming to himself as he picked up a black garbage bag and a picker and walked down the beach, grabbing garbage every step of the way.

So... Most people won't know this about me, but generally when I play this sacred card game we all love so much, I have a tendency to place my cards in the center of my field first. My brother on the other hand, tended to place his cards on the right side of his field. This always bugged me as a kid, becuz I couldnt figure out which way was correct.. or if neither were. To remedy this, I had thought up the idea of an archetype that forces the player to think strategically about where exactly they play their cards, as it could seriously impact the duel - for better, or for worse. Problem was, I never knew how to word the effects, since cards like "Which Starling" and all of the "Mekk-Knight" cards hadnt even been a twinkle in anyone's eyes yet. But now, my friends.. Now, after many years of having this concept and a rather poorly thought out and rushed attempt about a year ago, I can proudly say that I'm not only giving this dream concept of mine another shot, but that I've decided to go ahead and revamp my old attempt, by making changes to the old designs and attempting to make them quite a bit more thought out. Here's the basic idea, at it's simplest: WATER Psychic Ritual Archetype, based on humanoid slime creatures, that focuses heavily on the strategic and careful placement of its own cards in order to properly utilize the versatility of its abilities. The lower Level "fodder" monsters have a certain effect they can earn depending on which of these three MMZs theyre in: Center, Leftmost, and Rightmost. They also have a bit of a floating effect on destruction involving an opponent's card, becuz I was having major issues with being forced to end my turn cuz I got negated merely once. Plus, theyre slimes. They aint particularly easy to kill. The Bigger, Bossier, Ritual monsters of the archetype focus on disruptive effects on summon with column play, they give buffs or get abilities when there is an archetypal monster in an adjacent MMZ to them, and some gain an additional effect if there is a Spell/Trap card in the adjacent space below them. Now that the basic summary is out of the way, without further ado, the "Protean" archetype: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Main Deck Monsters Cerulean Protean WATER - Level 3 - Psychic/Effect - 800/1300 This card gains 1 of the following effects, depending on which Main Monster Zone it's in: ● Rightmost: Increase this card's Level by 1. ● Leftmost: Once per turn; you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Protean" monster from your GY. ● Center: Once per turn, you can shuffle 1 "Protean" card from your GY into your Deck, then draw 1 card. If this card is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect: you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Protean" monster from your hand or GY, except "Cerulean Protean". You can only use this effect of "Cerulean Protean" once per turn. “My turn. I draw!” No later than her card being drawn did Makoto immediately proclaim “I activate Ancient Gear Workshop! This card lets me return an Ancient Gear monster from my graveyard back to the hand, and I choose Ancient Gear Golem!” After adding the monster back to her hand, Makoto looked over the cards available to her for a moment, before deciding on a course of action. “Next, I activate Ancient Gear Castle, which increases the attack of all my monsters by 300.” Ancient Gear Wyvern: 1700 → 2000 “Normally, Ancient Gear Golem needs two tributes to be summoned, but if you remember the start of this duel, Geartown reduces that number. I tribute Ancient Gear Wyvern to summon Ancient Gear Golem! ...again!” A smug look flashed across Makoto’s face as her relatively weak dragon-like machine was replaced once again by the towering mass of parts. Ancient Gear Golem: 3000 → 3300 “Let’s not waste any time, and get right to the battle! I attack Madolche Mewfeuille!” Similarly to its last appearance, the golem’s arm groaned upward, before slamming down on the rather helpless cat, squishing it thoroughly. Makoto: 5900 → 5600 Leila: 4200 → 1900 “And that’s not the only trick I’ve got either. Now that we’ve had some battles, I activate Ancient Gear Explosive! By destroying my Golem, I can deal half of its original attack to you in damage.” Leila: 1900 → 400 “And now for the big finish! Now that I have no monsters, I activate Ancient Gear Reborn’s effect again! Come on back, Ancient Gear Howitzer! But don’t get too used to him, because I activate his effect, to deal 1000 damage. And that’s more than you’ve got.” Leila: 400 → 0 “And, scene. At least, I think that’s what he says.” As the holograms dispersed, Makoto gave her opponent a thumbs-up. “That was a good duel! Your deck is super cute, and I’d totally get one myself if I wasn’t already so used to this deck instead!” Leila looked to the field, then back to her duel disk blankly as the duel ended. Blinking, she simply commented, “oh, it’s over.” Looking back over to Makoto she smiled saying, “oooh thanks. I think they’re really cute too. That’s why I picked them out.” The girl nodded before saying, “and your deck is just like Laurie’s. Which means it’s super cool too.” The girl gave an oddly proud smile in spite of her loss, and a thumbs up to Makoto.

"Is this pitiful showing all you can do!?" "Even if it is," Nani called out, springing up over her respective wall of flames and stumbling a bit on the landing on the other side. "We don't all have to be great individually. We just have to be better than you collectively." Without anything else to say, Nani rushed into the fray, hands and feet aglow as she closed in on the enemy Godslayer. Before, just as she was about to reach the target, she suddenly stopped and bent herself backwards, before springing forth the rest of the distance with her hands, feet inbound to deliver a missile kick to the enemy. While she did technically hit her target, Nani found herself gripped by the foot upon impact with Kura, as the enemy Houndoom wasted no time grabbing the girl, and lifting her up to slam her down into the floor, leaving a few cracks at the point of impact. More importantly, her barrier - her greatest advantage in a fight, which had two layers lately - had been completely shattered by the attack. That couldn't be a good sign. Nani raised her hands up toward her enemy's face, and unleashed a pulse of electricity. It didn't seem like the effects would last long, but it gave Nani the opportunity to roll to the side before that annoying flame hound could make a meal out of her. As Kura reached his hand out and spewed a blast of black flames from it, Nani responded by delving into the floor. What was with that fire and making even the shadows hot? In a hurry, the Mimikyu sprung up behind Kura. But only halfway, before stopping for a bit. The pause paid off, as Kura's arm reached out to strike Nani where she would have been had she gone all the way. Now he was wide open for a quick fairy-powered jab to his side, delivered by Nani's foot as she sprung the rest of the way out of the shadows. And a punch to follow up with! A punch that was met with Kura's own fist. He looked like he was getting sick of Nani's shenanigans. Or maybe he just didn't like looking at her. It was hard for her to tell sometimes. Whatever the case may have been, the Mimikyu was grabbed up once more, but instead of getting slammed into the floor, she was tossed back in the direction she'd come from, over the flame wall and right back where she'd started with all this. So be it. Got my licks in anyway.

After the initial conversation between himself and Yasha, Benjamin returned to watching his livestream for the reveal of that gaming computer. Luckily, he hadn't missed too much, just the opening statements. But he finally got to get some closure on how this PC was going to work and how much it was going to cost...yeah, he wanted to get his hand on this new piece of technology, but nooooooot for the price he was wanting. After all, at this moment he was but a high school student with aspirations of being a Hero...which meant no money in the pocket at the moment. Alas, this would mean he'd just have to upgrade his own to a much higher degree...not too hard of a problem. Eventually, the bus came to a halt...finally arriving at the destination. And as one would've probably suspected, there was definitely more to this trip than one would've immediately thought. "All this garbage here on the beach is poisoning the ocean, and harming the wildlife…But that's where we come in! The job of a hero is to make the world a better place, so today you all get to be heroes to this little ecosystem! Remember, this all can be quite toxic, so put on some of the gloves we have provided here if your quirk won't protect you from these things! Have fun everyone~!!! This sounds about right... Benjamin thought, shaking his head slightly with a smirk. He leaned over towards Yasha and whispered to his classmate. "Sounds like that wish you were expecting when arriving here isn't gonna happen." He gently gave a few pats to Yasha, before seeing Anemonesan pulling both Rei and Yasha in for a moment. He figured it was due to those two not doing real great in that training a week earlier. Benjamin shrugged, only giving the guy a small wave and salute, before moving with the rest of the class. The general sight of the beach was sort of...messed up. How people could even think about leaving a beautiful area like this as dirty and trashy as a dump was beyond him. However, something did come to mind almost immediately. He took a spot on the beach, and had his spiders making a webbed area. He gave a slight wave and whistle, before pointing at the area he prepped with the webbing. "Hey guys! A heads up, if you find anything electronic...batteries and such...I marked a spot over here to have you guys put it. Rather than just throwing that stuff away, could gather them and properly dispose of them." he said, letting that be known to the rest of the class, before grabbing a bag and a trash grabber, before whistling at his spiders to come and help. The spiders wouldn't do much...but this was an all hands on deck situation, so of course...all eight-legs were definitely needed for this job.

Chris eyed the initial pen Julian produced with suspicion. But, then again, of course he did. Not only was he, well, in the suspicion business, it also seemed a bit convenient that she had the pen on her in the first place if she wasn’t intending on using it. He almost wanted to try and lift it from her just to get a better look at it -- he even tracked where it went as she slipped it back -- but he stopped himself and tried a more tactful approach, or tactful for him, at least. “How come I don’t deserve the special pen?” he said. “You can’t act like I’m all special and then give me a plain old pen.” “Teehee, that one's not for writing,” she answered. Okay, so it wasn’t a pen then (or was it? She just said it wasn’t for writing, but it still seemed like she thought of it as a pen…). Chris still kept an eye on the pocket it was in, though, even in his peripheral as he turned to take a drink. He did wonder if he was being too obvious, but he brushed the concerns aside. “Alright, here’s the story: You’re right. I was born in this big, fancy castle. Which one, I couldn’t tell you -- my memory is too hazy for that -- but you do have to trust that I remember that much. But after my birth, the first thing I remember was waking up in an alleyway, about six years old at that point, yeah? So that’s a third of my life I already don’t remember right there. And another six years were spent being gaslit. That one core memory of mine, that I do have a last name, that I do matter, that all got beaten out of me. “But I got some licks in too, eventually,” Chris said. “And I got smart. I learned not to talk about it much, that was why I was so hostile to you earlier, sorry. So now I just work as a --” oh, what was the word? “an ostler and a baster trying to get a glimpse of the castle that was once mine. The Spark, too, that could help just as much, that’s why I have my companions in that regard. “‘Now, why haven’t my parents searched for me?’ I hear you ask.” Chris lowered his voice and leaned in and gestured, trying to get Julian to do the same. “Well, first of all, who’s to say they haven’t? They won’t know what I look like anymore. But that ignores the more serious reason. I think -- you know, because I think about this a lot -- I think they’ve been hexed. I think they don’t even remember that they had a child. So only by their true love’s embrace -- that’s me, obviously -- will the spell be broken.” Julian nodded slowly. “Seems it won’t be so easy to figure you out. Well, that’s what investigation is for.” She smiled wide. “Honestly, it’s more fun that way.” Then why’d you ask? Chris thought. “I guess if we’re being honest with each other, you might as well ask her what her story is,” he said, gesturing first to the elf with the sword and then the waitress who had just served his companions drinks. “Or her what hers is. I don’t think they’d tell you either. Or maybe they would, but either way, I’m not that type of person. There’s something you can write down.”
