Rocknoceros is an Archetype of Rock/EARTH monsters with various Levels. They focus on Synchro Summoning using non-Effect Monster. They have 3 Tuner Normal Monsters, as well as the non-Effect Tuner Synchro called Peakprimer, which also boosts their other Synchro Monsters for each monster you use, as they have reversed material requirements, having the ability to use multiple Tuners, but not multiple non-Tuners. Their name is a portmanteau of Rock and Rhinoceros, and they are based around natural rock formations and rhino traits, hence them using more Tuners than non-Tuners, as they are "formed" by the Tuners. Main Deck Monsters: Rocknoceros Stackblocker Rock/EARTH/Tuner Level 1 While its slower than most of the Rocknoceros, it is able to protect itself quite well with its hide of hard rocks. 0/2000 Rocknoceros Cliffcreator Rock/EARTH Level 1 If you control another Rock monster: You can declare a Level between 2 and 4; this card's Level becomes the declared Level. You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 "Rocknoceros" monster you control and declare a Level between 1 and 4; that target becomes the declared Level. You can only use each effect of "Rocknoceros Cliffcreator" once per turn. 500/500 Rocknoceros Stonerunner Rock/EARTH/Tuner Level 2 The fastest of the Rocknoceros, it is able to run quite fast, but doesn't have much power. 1000/1000 Rocknoceros Scarpdasher Rock/EARTH Level 2 If you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). If Summoned this way, it cannot be used as material, except for a Synchro Summon of a Rock monster. If this card is sent from the field to the GY: You can add 1 "Rocknoceros" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Rocknoceros Scarpdasher". You can only use this effect of "Rocknoceros Scarpdasher" once per turn. 700/700 Rocknoceros Buttestriker Rock/EARTH/Tuner Level 4 While not very intelligent, it is mighty and strong, its horn strikes with power that scares even the mightiest beasts away. 2000/0 Rocknoceros Mesamaker Rock/EARTH Level 4 You can discard this card; Special Summon 1 "Rocknoceros" monster from your hand. If you control no other monsters: You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 2 non-Effect "Rocknoceros" monsters, 1 from your hand and 1 from your Deck, also you cannot Special Summon monsters from your Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except "Rocknoceros" monsters. You can only use each effect of "blank" once per turn. 1500/1500 Extra Deck Monsters: Rocknoceros Peakprimer Rock/EARTH/Synchro/Tuner Level 4 1+ Tuners + 1 non-Tuner monster 2500/0 Rocknoceros Megamonad Rock/EARTH/Synchro Level 6 1+ Tuner non-Effect Monsters + 1 non-Tuner Rock monster For each "Rocknoceros Peakprimer" this card used as material, it gains 1000 ATK and DEF. Once per turn: You can Tribute any number of non-Effect Monsters from your hand or field (max. 3); draw cards equal to the number Tributed +1. While you control "Rocknoceros Range", the first time a "Rocknoceros" monster(s) you control would be destroyed each turn, it is not destroyed. 2000/2000 Rocknoceros Cragcrusher Rock/EARTH/Synchro Level 8 1+ Tuner non-Effect Monsters + 1 non-Tuner Rock monster For each "Rocknoceros Peakprimer" this card used as material, it gains 1000 ATK and DEF. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute any number of non-Effect Monsters from your hand or field, then target cards your opponent controls equal to the number Tributed; destroy them. While you control "Rocknoceros Range", if a "Rocknoceros" monster battles, your opponent's cards cannot be activated until the end of the Damage Step. 2500/2500 Rocknoceros Torterror Rock/EARTH/Synchro Level 10 1+ Tuner non-Effect Monsters + 1 non-Tuner Rock monster For each "Rocknoceros Peakprimer" this card used as material, it gains 1000 ATK and DEF. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute any number of non-Effect Monsters from your hand or field; your opponent discards the same number of cards from their hand. While you control "Rocknoceros Range", your opponent cannot Special Summon monsters from their Extra Deck to their Main Monster Zone, also all monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck in their Main Monster Zone have their effects negated. 2800/2800 Rocknoceros Gorgegiant Rock/EARTH/Synchro Level 12 1+ Tuner non-Effect Monsters + 1 non-Tuner Rock monster For each "Rocknoceros Peakprimer" this card used as material, it gains 1000 ATK and DEF. You can Tribute any number of non-Effect Monsters from your hand or field; this turn, this card gains additional attacks during each Battle Phase for each monster Tributed. While you control "Rocknoceros Range", any card sent to your opponent's GY is banished instead 3000/3000 Spells/Traps: Rocknoceros Range Field Spell When this card is activated: You can discard 1 "Rocknoceros" monster; draw 2 cards. During your Main Phase, you can Normal Summon 1 "Rocknoceros" monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. (You can only gain this effect once per turn.) Once per turn, if you Synchro Summoned a Rock Synchro Monster: You can Special Summon 1 "Rocknoceros Token" (Rock/EARTH/Level 4/1000 ATK/1000 DEF). While you a "Rocknoceros Token", Rock Synchro Monsters you control cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent's card effects. Rocknoceros Sharpening Continuous Spell Each time a Rock non-Effect Monster is Tributed, place 1 Sharpening Counter on this card for each of those monsters. All Rock monsters you control gain 200 ATK and DEF for each Sharpening Counter on this card. Once per turn, during the End Phase: You can remove any number of Sharpening Counters from this card, then target Rock non-Effect Monsters in your GY equal to the number removed; add them to your hand. You can only control 1 "Rocknoceros Sharpening". Rocknoceros Stampede Quick-Play Spell If you control a Rock Effect Monster: Special Summon any number of Rock non-Effect monsters from your hand as possible, but they are placed on top of your Deck during the End Phase, also you cannot attack this turn, except with Synchro Monsters, nor Special Summon monsters, except "Rocknoceros" monsters for the rest of this turn. You can only activate 1 "Rocknoceros Stampede" per turn. Rocknoceros Formation Normal Spell Discard 1 "Rocknoceros" monster; Special Summon 1 "Rocknoceros" monster with a different name from your Deck or GY. If this card was sent to your GY this turn: You can banish this from your GY, then target 1 "Rocknoceros" monster in your GY; place it on top of your Deck. You can only use each effect of "Rocknoceros Formation" once per turn. Rocknoceros Earthquakes Continuous Trap When this card is activated: You can target 1 "Rocknoceros" monster in your GY; Special Summon it, then if it is a Synchro Monster, destroy as many Spells/Traps your opponent controls as possible. Once per turn: You can target 1 "Rocknoceros" Synchro Monster in your Extra Monster Zone; move it to your Main Monster Zone, and if you do, you can reduce its Level by 2. If you control "Rocknoceros Range", you can activate this card from your hand. A bit on the edge on this one. I cannot but feel it does a little too much but stunning both Set Spell/Traps and hand-traps. Also flavor-wise are like opposite effects: half stuns the board, and the other half stuns the hand. Would make more sense to me if it simply didnt't let players activate Spell/Traps and monster effects from hand, basically flipping the backrow stun effect. That means you would have to Set Normal and Continuous Spells first to activate them, while Traps and Quick-Play Spell would inherently be stunned by their Setting mechanics (cannot be activated the turn they are Set). The last effect feels a bit random and even a bit overkill-ish to me.

Calling the card "Kid" makes little sense to me. I get it's a "Billy the Kid" reference, and yet this is no kid, but a damn fine gal. I don't think it's that good, though. Maxx's appeal not only is punishing the opponent for going all-out with Special Summons, also it gives you the chance to draw into hand traps to stop any follow-ups if the opponent takes the Maxx C Challenge. Phantazmei can do the same to a lesser extent. This one, however, cannot do it, and that's a major difference because, although you do are given then chance to build it your hand for a big push or even an OTK in your upcoming turn to punish the opponent, if said opponent built a damn solid board, then that won't help you. FIRE/Warrior Tuner with 200 DEF are really good traits, though. I don't think it's too much considering the effect.

There is hand-trap monster that already does some re-arranging and it sees little play, I have only spotted it in combo decks, Guardragons I think. Now a Normal Trap, or conditional hand-trap Trap, that does more or less the same... I doubt would see as much play either, and may be just a little better than the monster. That makes this a casual card, basically.

Team Karaoke, Day 37, Near Alpha Even with Quincy's incredible speed they still had to stop several times throughout their flight to rest before they made it to their destination. Thus it was four days of off and on flight. Near the end of it Gwen had decided that she didn't like this way of travel much at all. Though there was no saying it wasn't efficient. Quincy dropped the group off at the edge of the land where the city was located, mentioning not wanting to set foot on the land itself if she could help it. Thankfully it was only a few hours walk to get to the city itself from the edge of the supposedly cursed land. Gwendoline, coming from this area, didn't think it was cursed at all. That being said she could kind of see why people would think that. The land was grey. There were clouds continuously overhead and it was difficult to tell morning from night at times. The soil felt like ash and looked the part as well. There were some trees but none of them had leaves and most were simply scraggly stumps attempting to survive in a dead land. No animals moved around except for the occasional lizard and some underground creatures that fed on said lizards. The strangest part was how separate it was from the rest of the world. The spot that they stood now was grassy and alive. Yet simply three feet ahead the land suddenly...died. Gwendoline smiled at Kayla and Nine. "It's nothing to worry about, really, there's plenty of people who live here just fine. I came from here after all." With that she and Lok floated over the clear line between the normal land and the territory of Alpha and Omega. And that was when they both would be flooded by a host of memories, all at once, overwhelming them and causing Gwendoline to pass out. ---- A dream. She was dreaming. Or was it a nightmare? She was in darkness. Everywhere she looked the same darkness. Until a figure emerged. Only noticeable because they were darker than the darkness itself. A voice. A deep voice. A frightening voice which somehow soothed Gwen to hear it. "You have returned." It said. "Yes, master." Came her immediate response. She knew who this was. She knew who she was. She knew why he was here. "This group...is it all you could muster? I sent you to bring us allies. Are they strong enough?" "I am unsure." Gwen admitted. "They are strong. But few. There were more. More that were ideal for facing our foe. But they left. Had I remembered I could have convinced them to stay." "You know why that's impossible. Now, child, have you come to a decision? About the state of the world? Is it not as grim as I said? What have you decided?" Gwen thought. A world of pain She thought of a librarian, who was more than simply a librarian, seeking to kill a legendary trio despite the risk to a group of people shoved into a pit by those in power. She thought of an Altaria who, instead of showing mercy, murdered a woman without attempting to understand. She thought of a library burned down in a war between gangs while the authorities did nothing and the people suffered. She thought of a battle between a legend and a single man which destroyed an entire city. She thought of another city, destroyed by the passing vengeance of someone simple because they could. She thought of a Legend, sacrificing herself to try and fix what a single person caused. She thought of a scared girl who had taken the wrong path. Who was driven away instead of loved. She thought of friends whom she had met along the way. And she wondered if that could possibly make up for all the terrible things in the world. "I've made my decision, my lord." Gwen said at last. "I choose..." --- Gwendoline woke up to Kayla hovering over her, a look that she could only assume was concern on her face, and smiled. "I am alright. Sorry for worrying you all." She stood up. "I'm not sure what happened. But I think I'm okay now." She glanced over at Lok. She gave him a knowing smile and then turned to Nine instead. "We can get going now. It won't be long before we reach Alpha. Oh, I'm so very excited. Absol-utely so!" True to her words only a couple hours travel, though it felt longer for Kayla and Nine given the lack of anything, until they saw Alpha. The city was surrounded by a wooden fence, only waist-high, and there were no gates. Gwen hovered over the gate without trouble but paused. "Oh, I suppose you'll want help getting over won't you?" She giggled as Nine and Kayla would struggle, despite the shortness of the fence, to get inside until she or Lok helped them over. The city itself was seemingly abandoned. The buildings were small, wooden, and seemed to be falling apart. Yet as they traveled through Nine and Kayla would hear voices whispering constantly around them. Then, as they reached the center of the city, where a statue of a cloaked figure stood tall and proud, they were surrounded by dozens of Ghost types all greeting them happily and asking them for their names and asking how they were feeling. They greeted Lok and Gwen warmly, welcoming them home, and asking them what they saw on their journey. It seemed each one of them knew the two by name, and Lok and Gwen both found that they, too, knew each of the people whom came to talk with them. Team Alola, Day 27, Trailsau While the group as a whole seemed to not be interested in going towards the unusual building Marie was a different story entirely. She strode up to it with the confidence reserved for elite warriors and children and knocked on the door. There was no response, for a while, and then the door creaked open slowly. Just a crack. BGM Someone inside was looking out. Staring. Gazing into Marie's very soul. A stare that could shatter stone and melt steel. A gaze of pure, untouchable, power. Like something from a myth about a power that had to be locked away for centuries lest it break out and overwhelm the entire world in fire and brimstone. The kind of power that none in this world could ever hope to match or even hope to stand next to without being crushed by its sheer overwhelming presence.... The door opened. BGM Standing in the doorway, clutching the door nervously, was a rather average looking Flygon Gijinka. art by cdov34 "U-um, hello? Er, who are you? I don't want any trouble so whatever you need I'll give it to you okay?" He stammered. Glancing over at Randy he winced. "Just don't beat me up, please." Team Showdown, Day 30, Southshore Forest Veronica was now in a dangerous position. With Taiga moving in to attack her wings and Zygarde approaching from the front with Outrage in their movement. Taiga reached Veronica first but Zygarde wouldn't be far behind, going for a frontal assault on the Crobat with all of their considerable strength. Isole hesitated. She didn't want to get in between either of those attacks. So she instead moved herself towards Veronica's side. If the girl managed to get out of the way of Taiga's attack she would use an Astonishing attack to ram the girl into Zygarde themselves. They had to make sure that even if the girl dodged she would still be put into a position to get hit. The Godslayer noticed Taiga's approach and, anticipating their target by watching the girl's feral eyes, shifted to the side and released another Cross Poison at the Sharpedo to block her attack. That was when Isole rammed into her and caught her off guard. The next thing she knew Zygarde was standing before her, bringing down both of their arms for a crushing blow.

I suppose you could include Clank, because technically you play as both of them. So yeah, Ratchet & Clank, not just Ratchet.

I like Ratchet, though I feel like including him without Clank is strange since they've got that whole duo and the interactions that come with it. I enjoyed his character arc throughout the first game, and he's a pretty cool dude. I'll agree with Jak as well, since in the first game he was just a silent protagonist with not much too him, most of the character was in Daxter, and starting with 2 he became angry edgelord elf which I don't find interesting.

That's a very good question. It's difficult for me to think about for a number of reasons, the biggest one being the ideal candidates were from games that I might've played a while ago that I don't really remember all too well, and even for games that I've played more recently, my brain is usually just turned off while I'm playing them and it's usually all a blur. The one that comes to mind right away is Geralt from Witcher. That kind of memorability from protagonists just comes with the environment of roleplaying games with premade protagonists that you play as because as you play, everything you do and every character you interact with reveals bits and pieces about the character that you either come to appreciate or take into consideration for certain moments. With all the time I have playing Witcher 3, I've learned so much about that particular character that their acknowledgment is so much deeper to me than that of other characters. However, just because I know more about a character than others doesn't necessarily make them "better" because we also have to consider the fact that Geralt is basically just a sociopathic mercenary that will do pretty much anything for money, mainly killing targets by request of the payer. Sure, you'll often have the option to not do that out of either sympathy or indifference, but the point lies in the nature of their trade. He has so much experience doing this type of thing that he is basically numb to it, which to me docks a couple points in terms of personality. This also applies to other action RPGs, since the whole "blood-thirsty mercenary" thing is pretty common in those types of games. Take Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey, for example. Both games you're exploring the world, accepting missions for money and experience, and mixed between all that is a story that they want you to follow to progress. Either way, regardless of how different they try to make it, it's usually the same general idea. So with that out of the way, back to the original question: Who is my favorite game protagonist based on character quality and not just from how much I know about them? Taking that into consideration, I find myself thinking of characters from platformers like Ratchet & Clank or Crash Bandicoot. The latter seems kinda shallow, cause I mean... he's Crash Bandicoot. He's literally just a brainless bandicoot running, jumping, and spinning to survive. Hell, he can't even speak (at least his original design couldn't, then he was sold off to people who had to change him for the sake of changing him, but that's beside the point.) Ratchet, however, is more interesting because he is actually fairly intelligent while being particularly goofy and charming at the same time, so he makes for a good contender. (Though you might realize that I excluded both Spyro and Jak from the subject, and that's because I inversely don't find them as interesting as their rivaling counterparts.) Another good one that comes to mind is Tak. Just some aloof kid exploring the world and learning it for himself, but in a time of need learns to use various abilities given to him by his guardians as well as communicating with them for help, all while respecting the nature of his surroundings and taking out anything that threatens it. Nothing else seems to come to mind, so putting up Ratchet and Tak back to back, my choice would be Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank, mainly because of his skills with mechanics and various application of technology. Tak is great, but magic doesn't necessarily strike me as "interesting" when put up against clever (if not also goofy) engineering.
