Most of the criticisms I heard were just in general from the whole trilogy as well as the out of nowhere Force powers they displayed and have now made canon. Honestly, I think the expounded and expanded amount of Force powers makes for it being much more than just mind tricks, lightning, pushing and pulling things...plus, some of these powers were already presented in the games in some fashion...soooooo I welcome the change.

As far as I'm aware, Citra is about as good as 3DS emulators get. If it doesn't work for you, there's always the option of homebrewing your 3DS, if you have one, to get to use stuff on it, but that's a lot more work.
