She pretended not to hear Tidebinder’s question, but she did eventually respond all the same. “What? I was just following her.” She pointed at Thessa. “And, like, the door was open. Nice place. Don’t think I’ve ever been in here before. Is this the setup on all of these?” As she got close to one of the surveillance computers, its water coolant started to shake the entire case. “Okay! Geez, touchy touchy…” “What are you doing here?” Tidebinder asked again. “Are you here to do the same thing you did to Caesar? Finish the job in a moment of quiet?” “Okay, first off, I was on the other side of town, leading the charge against Project Rubicon. You’re thinking of my sisters,” Clotho said. “And second, I can’t believe that that one moment has overshadowed what we’re actually known for -- being mercenaries for hire. You know, solving problems. Making deals. You know why I’m here. You just haven’t asked the right question yet.” Tidebinder grimaced. “Suddenly everybody wants something from me,” she said. She stood up and made a show of dusting herself off. “I will be sure to keep your offer under consideration, but, if you don’t mind, I’m going to be using the fact that it exists at all as leverage now. Besides, all things being equal, you did launch a madwoman at my roof earlier. For now, I think I will choose the other path.” She motioned to Thessa. “Let’s go. Legion, could you make sure Miss Lanthimos finds her way back to the main area without getting lost? Let me know if something goes wrong.” Legion gave a half-salute. Clotho pouted and said, “Well, that’s no fun,” but didn’t press the issue further. Once Tidebinder turned back to Thessa, though, the pout disappeared, replaced with a smirk. Tidebinder didn’t notice, or at least pretended not to. “Let’s go,” she said, “and see the scope of this mess you’ve made for yourself.” The Magician Before the bickering could go much further, Atropos appeared, popping out from the mass of people growing antsier and antsier by the moment. “Heyyy,” she said, waving at all three of the capes even if she was really only talking to two of them. “Good job so far, sorry things have been so vague. We’ll all get through this.” With that, she stepped back and beckoned Sibyl to follow her. One thing that everybody noticed was that the whole casino was getting warmer. It was nowhere near as bad as what it had been inside Project Rubicon, for those that had been, and there were certainly places where the heat was not quite as sweltering, but in an environment like a casino, where things were supposed to be climate controlled to perfection, people were starting to notice. “Sorry about that,” Atropos said, once she was sure that they’d left Override and Arcturus behind. “Oh, that’s two apologies now, huh? Gotta make sure not to make a habit of it.” She did not seem all that bothered by it. “So, Lachesis mentioned there was a kitchen entrance and people trying to get in through that. Well, nobody’s seen that contingent since, certainly not since we all got ushered inside here. So that’s what we’re gonna do -- find out just what’s been going on.” Meanwhile, Override’s suit pinged him to let him know that someone, somewhere, had just tried to access his data on Cassandra’s pendants.
